he flinches when you tug his jersey down, towards the bush at the side of the road. yeah. no danger. just some neighborhood kittens lazing about in the sunset warmth.

your hands stay on the fabric, hands so small but the grip tight as you melt at the adorable sight. he stands up a little, gulping as he feels your touch warm against the cool cloth. the weight of your arm rests against his, and his fingertips tingle as they fall against your soft arms.

he tenses slightly, feeling the blush rise from his neck. was it the sunset? why was it suddenly so hot? you had the every option to hold him. his arm, his shoulders, hands, but the hem of his sleeve? why did your hands suddenly look so cute, gripping tightly as you gleamed innocently?

he looks away as he looks for his phone in the other side of the jacket, grumbling quietly about how he should take a photo of the sight. hopefully you can’t see how flustered this thoughtless touch has made him.

that moment he shifts in his seat, his breathing stops. you open your mouth again, probably to mutter something out, but this time the tip of your glistening, pink tongue flicks out. he stops him his seat, awkwardly positioned, as his head furiously moves back to his laptop, heartbeat raging against his suddenly sweaty fingertips.

what the actual fuck? that must have been a mistake right? you must have just been trying to wet your lips or something. sure there’s nothing more of it.. but he can’t get the sight of the moment out of his head, you relaxing your pretty body for a second as you let out a little sigh, and that pink, glistening tongue sticking out from your plush lips. he feels a pang of guilt, so he quietly takes a shakey breath. there’s no more to it. cut it out. just go and talk to her!

yeah that didn’t go as planned, because when he looked back, the lightheadedness made him grip the edge of the table to stop himself from letting out a surprised sigh. the edge your tongue was caught between your teeth, peeking just out from your lips. your eyes squinting at the screen, just so focused on the work. he sank back to his chair, his eyes racing to look anywhere else.

there’s nothing more to it. he knows. you’re his best friend. he swears. but as he hears you mumble about how you can’t focus, he can’t help but think

Fuck it, Haikyu!! characters and their unusual skills hcs

Ushijima is very good with distinguishing tastes. Like he can tell you if a drink is or isn't diet (combine this with diabetic tendou?? for the ultimately sweet (pun intended) moment of him telling the waitress that his boyfriends drink isn't diet and that he'd like another, please) also this makes him a very good candidate for developing chocolate recipes

Kuroo and Kenma learned some simple sign language to communicate without words (comes in handy when Kenma gets overwhelmed at a party, for example). Sometimes, they use it early in the mornings because neither of them are early birds and get grumpy without caffeine.

Kageyama has a very sensitive sense of smell. He will outright tell Hinata if he changed his shampoo because he can smell it (and because most of the time doesn't like it).

The Miya twins are actually really decent singers if you get some alcohol into them. They are also really good at whistling (it annoys the hell out of their partners sometimes).

Sakusa can mimic people really well (he's perceptive and picks up on their habits and speech patterns really quickly) and his impression of Atsumu has made for quite a few scenarios where their team cannot stop laughing because of how good it is.

Kita can sleep practically anywhere if he's exhausted, he just chooses not to for his own dignity (until he moves in with Aran anyways, who finds him asleep spread out on the floor multiple times).

Suna has a very dextrous tongue, i.e., he can tie a cherry stem in his mouth (do with that information what you want, honestly)

Hirugami can mimic certain animal sounds really well and sometimes does so almost out of reflex (maybe a verbal stim?) when he treats animals at his job (i.e. he'll "mreow" right back at a cat).

Akaashi can wiggle his ears and nose and does it sometimes when he's bored.

Bokuto can walk on his hands when he does a handstand (I mean, overall, I think that he could be very good at gymnastics)

⎯ Oikawa as sharing a kiss after a long time

It had been months since the great Oikawa Tooru had left for Argentina. You had pushed him to leave without a single thought ; it was too much of an opportunity for him to just say no because of you. Yes, you missed him like crazy, but you called each other anytime you could, fighting against the timezone. 

Argentina was so far away, and Oikawa was so busy that you didn't have a single idea of when you would be able to see him again. You tried not to worry too much about this, knowing well that he would feel guilty for leaving like this. 

You were with Iwaizumi, laying down on his couch while telling him how you felt about the distance with your boyfriend. After all, it was also his best friend, he was the best to help you right now. Your monologue was cut off by the bell of the door. You looked up to glance at Iwa who simply shrugged his shoulders. 

“You should go open,” he told you, and you didn’t understand why he would ask you to open the door of his apartment after hearing someone ; but you did it anyway, standing up from the couch to go to the door. You opened it without expecting anything, until your eyes locked on a face you knew too well. 

Your eyes widened and you didn’t even know what to say right now. You blinked a few times, trying to process when you heard his voice. “You didn’t miss me?” Tooru teased you, and the second after you were almost jumping on him. He caught you the second after, keeping his balance so none of you would fall. 

You looked into his eyes, still not realizing that he was really here now. What made you realize it was when he leaned closer to capture your lips, his fingers tangling with your hair at the back of your head to keep you close. It felt surreal, because you haven’t felt him so close since what felt like an eternity. 

You kissed him back like your whole life depended on it, your hands cupping his cheeks. It never felt so strong before, perhaps because you never spent so much time away from each other before. 

What brought you both back on Earth was Iwaizumi clearing his throat behind you, arms crossed on his chest and a grin at the corner of his lips. “At least get inside,” he told you, and Tooru nodded, taking your hand in his to get in Iwa’s apartment. You had no idea for how long he would be here, but you planned on enjoying every moment until he left again.

You had been feeling sick the whole day, but your boyfriend was sadly not here to take care of you. Osamu had a lot of work to do at the restaurant, and he left too early to even notice how bad you could feel. You decided not to say anything to him while he was gone ; he had enough stress with work, he didn’t need to be worrying about you on top of that. 

When Osamu came home after his long day of work, he simply walked to the living room where he knew he would find you. Except that he didn’t expect you to be half asleep, but clearly feverish. You slowly looked up at him, and you quickly noticed the light frown on his face. 

“What’s going on?” He asked you, crossing his arms as you slowly sat back up on the couch. You sighed a bit, before you explained that you spent the day here on the couch, not even able to go make yourself something to eat. It simply made his frown a bit harder on his already tired face. “Stay here, lay down and don’t move.” 

Osamu left for the kitchen, after he made sure that you were really laying down on the couch while he was gone. He came back in the living room a moment later, with a plate in his hands, which he put on the table next to you. You sat back and he took a seat right next to you. “Eat what you can, but don’t force yourself.” 

You took some time to eat a bit, before you turned around to be facing him. You were about to say something when you simply felt his lips brushing against your forehead. It caught you off guard, his hand resting at the back of your head. He moved away a few seconds later, a bit of worry in his eyes. “You got a really bad fever. Come here, let’s get you to bed.” 

You were too flabbergasted to realize that he was already taking your hand to guide you to the bedroom. You didn’t know what you did to deserve such a sweet man, but you knew he would take care of you for as long as you would need it.

Exams were slowly but surely approaching, and as always, it made you a nervous wreck. You weren’t bad at school, never really having catastrophic grades ; and yet, it made your anxiety rise like crazy. You were overworking yourself, spending hours on studying to be sure that you would pass. 

It made Kageyama worry a lot. He was bad at showing it, but he really hated those times because you were staying inside the whole day, not even caring a little about your own health. He knocked at the door of your dorm room, and the light sound he heard from the other side gave him the permission to get inside. 

His eyes met your figure sitting in front of your desk, not even looking up at him when he walked closer to you. He sat on your bed, next to where you were, waiting in silence until you would finally look up from your books. 

“Did you need something?” You asked without looking at him, and it made him frown slightly. He stood up, marking your page before closing the book in front of you. Suddenly, you looked up at him, about to say something, when you realized what was going on. You sighed slowly, putting a strand of hair behind your ear. “I’m sorry, I just…” 

“I know,” he told you softly, falling on his knees in front of you. He gently grabbed your hands in his, looking up at you. He was bad with words, he knew it ; and he wasn’t really good with showing it either ; but for you, he always tried his best. 

He raised your hand closer to his face, and his lips kissed your knuckles without saying anything more. You stayed silent too, tilting your head to the side while looking at him. No words were needed, you simply closed your eyes and breathed slowly. He always said he was bad at showing you affection, but you couldn’t ask for better.

Your boyfriend had never been a huge fan of PDA. In fact, he wasn’t a huge fan of physical affection in general. But if there was one thing that he loved way more than he disliked PDA, it was teasing you in front of everyone. It was his little guilty pleasure, he couldn’t lie about it. 

Kenma was currently streaming, and you were doing your own things in the rest of the house. His viewers knew you well. Even if he wanted to keep your relationship a secret at first, people began to notice things and, eventually, he had to properly introduce you to them. It was safe to say that he never missed a chance to embarrass you in front of his whole chat since that. 

He was just chatting with the viewers, when he heard some noise from outside, which made an idea cross his mind. A light grin on his face, Kenma called out for you. It didn’t take you long to join him, opening the door and raising an eyebrow. 

“Come here, please,” he asked you to walk closer, which you did without understanding what was happening. He gestured to you to lean over him, and when you did, he quickly left a kiss on the tip of your nose. It was fast, but it was enough to make your face burn all of a sudden. 

You stuttered a few words which didn’t make any sense, and all he did was to grin at you. You hated how proud he looked right now. You pushed his shoulder, moving away from the camera angle, and it made him chuckle. Teasing you really was his guilty pleasure.

there are times where he’s bound to make mistakes, like when he’s out of breath and messes up his sets a little, or when he’s been playing a game for too long and too many people are talking and the pixels are moving too fast for his brain.

those are the times where he can make the excuse if that he’s too tired. but even then, he still realizes his mistake.

when you first meet him he can tell you’re the shy type. he’s not stupid after all.

he can see you fidget with anything you can latch you hands on as you're introducing yourself to the team individually.

coach nekomata has that same happy smile that he always displays. he can see you constantly look back at him for reassurance.

when you finally approach him he skips to the most important part. he doesn’t care for the formalities, and he is sure you don't care about the wellbeing of every single person on the team.

“you can just call me by my first name, kenma.”

you were taken aback by his abruptness, you hadn’t even had the opportunity to bow before he introduced himself. his face remained a monotone look, it didn’t seem like he cared for you at all.

he is simply oblivious to you, so he says, “it’s kozume, but i don’t like when people call me it. so kenma is fine with me.”

he figures you’re the type to need reassurance on matters like that, he almost adds that you can come to him for help, but it might’ve come off in a different way. which was the opposite of what he wanted.

a warm smile blesses your face as you nod vigorously, barely getting out a “thank you!” before he walks away.

a small smile adorns his face when he turns around while he’s so blissfully unaware of his fatal mistake.

it’s at the next practice when he first notices it.

he’s out of the locker room first as usual. sliding down the wall, he sits down a foot away from you. you’re focused on something that he isn’t sure what.

you agree immediately, and it works for the next couple of hours. until he makes another mistake.

he’s on the floor before he knows it, he can hear the ball slam on the floor, but he can’t ignore the throbbing pain shooting through his body.

his ankle seems to look fine, but he knows he landed wrong after jumping for the ball. he takes his ankle and massages it, it doesn’t do much but he continues to do it anyways.

he can hear a group of footsteps run to him, but his vision seems to be tunneled.

throughout the many voices he can hear yours, loud and clear. “kozume! are you okay?”

he looks up at you, “kenma.”

the team all looks at him in confusion, a few mutters of people calling him delirious.

but you, you immediately get it, your cheeks turn a slight pink shade as you offer him a helping hand.

“sorry kenma! i’ll take you to the nurse now.” he gladly takes your hand. wanting to feel the softness of it forever, but you let go once he’s up.

Similar to Kenma, you're probably the one to initiate since he's not the biggest on PDA

He freaks out about it more though and you swear it's the most adorable thing you've ever seen

Like blushing and eyes flitting around the room kind of bad

But on the rare occasion he's seeking you out instead, he's very 'on the book' about it, so to speak

He'll pull you aside or tug on the cuff of your shirt and start stumbling over his words trying to get out what he wants to say

Kenma wasn't expecting this. At all.

When your boyfriend finally mustered up the courage to quietly propose (more like he whispered) the idea of playing videogames together, having pushed aside the worst case scenarios his mind kept coming up with, he hadn't actually expected you to refuse.

Kenma knew videogames weren't a hobbie of yours, at least not in Kenma's degree (which bordered obsession), but he never thought you didn't like them. But now, as he listened to your "You'll have more fun playing without me", he came to the conclusion you absolutely depised them.

The pudding haired boy felt his heart shatter into tiny pieces. He had been so exited about showing you videogames and sharing his love for them with you, but it seemed like you didn't like the idea as much as he did.

"Oh... Okay" Kenma murmured, slowly moving his gaze back to the screen, his fingers trembling ever so slightly.

God, he was so embarassed. Why did he even think you'd say yes? And why did he feel a knot in his throat?

Silently, he resumed his videogame, ocassionally glancing back at you.

Were you mad at him for something he had done? Maybe it was that.

But you didn't look angry. Your eyebrows weren't knit together, your lips weren't pursed, your eyes weren't narrowed, and your shoulders weren't tense. His analitical stare couldn't pick up on any facial expression that could give away how you felt.

Maybe you were upset. Or sad. Or dissapointed in him for suggesting such an un-romantic plan.

"Are you... Upset?" Kenma inquired in a shy murmur, his golden eyes briefly settling on your face before looking back down to his hands.

Your eyes widened in surprise, "No, why would I be upset...?"

He let out the softest of huffs, not daring to look up again, "Because you... don't want to play with me..."

Your expression softened when you understood Kenma's confusion. You shook your head and scooted closer, your thighs brushing against his.

"It's not I don't want to play with you, it's just I'm not good at videogames, so I thought you'd get bored if you played with me" you said softly, nudging him a bit.

And who could judge you? Kenma had spent his whole life playing videogames, of course he would be a lot better. And surely he wouldn't want to waste time trying to get you to play decently.

"...I wanted to teach you" Kenma said, pouting almost imperceptibly, making your heart melt.

"Are you sure...? You know, you'll waste a lot of time" you chuckled lightly, making him furrow his brows slightly.

"It's not wasting time if it's with you..." He said, quietly but convinced, "Besides, I want to play with you"

He gave you a tiny smile, his golden eyes gazing at you as if you were the most important person in the world to him. Because you were.

Kenma loved you more than anyone, and there was no way he'd ever get bored of spending time with you.

Even if it meant teaching you how to play videogames all afternoon.
