lmao i feel like i should have been way more excited during the initial relaunch announcements
but it really speaks to how gatekeepy the loudest parts of fandom became and how mistreated certain characters (ie those not part of the chosen pet fav circlejerk on x-tw*tter, which would matter less if it weren’t a vacuum reinforced by the actual x-office) were under outgoing editorial these last five years that even a post-krakoa announcement of my girl finally:
-headlining a flagship
-with an incredible writer and artist team
-a SOUTHERN GOTHIC premise
-the possibility of rogue finally having enjoyable interactions with remy and kurt
-under new editorial (that hasn’t said inflammatory things about said character in interviews afaik)??
still kinda had me like
“cool!!…
…still not pre-ordering. i’ll see for myself in august” 👉👈
and then literally all it took was gail simone’s cbr mini q&a to alleviate everything i was paranoid about
(ie worried that rogue and gambit were only finally getting attention due to corporate knowing they sell/mcu synergy (cough r&g 2.0) while editorial themselves actively hates and sidelines them, that remy might be a punching bag joke once again, that dull - and mostly yt - sausage fest of a proposed line-up, r&g 2.0/uncanny avengers/duggan’s x-men/excalibur fatigue, general saltiness from the inferno exclusion and basic removal from her mothers’ lives)
and basically i now say
bring it!!!!

Hii I don’t know if you’ve been asked this before, but what’s your opinion on Gail Simone? On her work and as a writer
I am assuming you are asking this in good faith and this isn't bait! Don't let me down, anon.
Anyway, I generally like Gail Simone's work! I think it's hard for folks who have started reading comics more recently to understand how groundbreaking her work on Birds of Prey was. There were absolutely female writers in the industry before Simone, but I don't know if there was ever a combination of "female writer" + "female-led cast" + "superhero book that isn't aggressively pinkwashed." Honestly I can't think of another one until the current BoP run by Kelly Thompson.
(I cannot overstate how hard it was for women in comics in the 2000s/early 2010s. Iirc Simone was one of only two in the initial New 52 lineup, which famously consisted of FIFTY-TWO BOOKS. And then they fired her from Batgirl. (And rehired her because of the severe backlash.) It's still very difficult to this day, but back then...woof.)
BoP had been a good book under Chuck Dixon, but Simone made the characters and their relationships so much richer, more nuanced and three-dimensional. My Barbara Gordon will always be her Babs, who is deeply flawed, well-meaning but manipulative and controlling in a chess grandmaster way, a way that female characters almost never get to be - someone who is a good person but also kind of terrifying. Dixon had written Dinah as likable but admittedly kind of a bimbo; Simone wrote her as profoundly emotionally intuitive and one of the best fighters in the entire DCU. Her Helena adds such a fun element to the book, and Zinda! She didn't invent Zinda out of whole cloth but she might as well have; the character wasn't nearly as delightful before Simone.
I also really enjoyed Secret Six at the time, although it's not my typical kind of book. And I think it's worth noting that Simone either introduced a number of queer characters or wrote previously existing characters as queer - Savant and Creote, Scandal Savage and Knockout and Liana, Catman - and with the exception of Catman, who was confirmed queer in 2015, this was at a time when queer characters in comics were still very, very rare. (And a poly relationship!)
Have I loved every single thing Simone has ever written? No. (I thought her recent Action Comics story, for example, was a pretty lukewarm retread of Superman vs. Muhammad Ali without the, uh, Muhammad Ali.) Has she made some missteps? Sure. But much like her friend and contemporary Devin Grayson, fandom tends to scream bloody murder over those missteps while completely ignoring much worse writing and real-world behavior by men. GEE, I WONDER WHY.
Anyway yes, I like Gail Simone! And I will always consider her BoP to be a must-read.

Birds of Prey #12 brings the Cass action to the forefront!
It also gets me something I always wanted to see: Sophie Campbell drawing Cass. But it comes-- with a TWIST!!
We're nearing the end point of this arc, and we get the craziest issue yet of the world hoping. This time the Birds getting "toonnified".
And that is "the twist"
Since I first saw her work on IDW TMNT. I always wanted to see Sophie Campbell draw Cass. Well wish granted this issue. But it's an utterly adorable Cass.
Though, what shall we call this Cass version? Toon Cass? Cass Toon? No wait that one is taken. 🤪
Tumblr media
Anyhoot, this toon world feels honestly the most fleshed out of them all. Like it felt there was this underlying unease with each world the Birds visited.
Here this is the first one that feels like a world onto itself. I wonder where this will go with the "final world" teased at the end.
Even though, last issue Cass was put on the back burner, this issue she gets A LOT of focus. So much so I believe this issue she has more dialogue than the prior ELEVEN issues!
Even with all this Cass, all the Birds get a moment this issue. Barda and Vixen get absolute banger moments this issue and their toon designs are just perfection. Likewise so does Sin, and even Babs. Everyone gets something this issue.
And it all starts with Cela walking out, and Cass following. Now I now there was A LOT of shippers jumping onto the two this issue.
So let's dissect the real bonding, and maybe-- it can go to be more?
Writer Kelly Thompson has touched on many dimensions to Cass in the series thus far. Here she digs into the core of Cass: compassion.
Tumblr media
A few issues ago, we learned Cela's origins, and last issue put it on the back burner, but this issue we get the forefront as she knows the Birds reunited that time is almost up with her newfound companions and the hope of being free from this prison.
I think Cass can really relate to Cela. That she's stuck in this world, and really is trying to be good despite the world wanting otherwise. Not to mention losing A LOT of sisters?
It sounds FAMILAIR doesn't it?
think Cass relates a lot to Cela and is trying to break that ice with her being there for her. She can see how her body is screaming for someone to vent with.
And well... we get the scene between the two.
Now as to WHY people are jumping on this ship bandwagon so much? Well, when was the last time Cass had an honest to god love interest in the main DCU?
You could say Stephanie Brown (Batgirls 2021-2023). Or... Harper Row (2016).
But if we're going to her honest-to-goodness CONFIRMED she's interested in?
Tumblr media
It was Sal from Batgirl Vol. 2 (2009).
It's been THAT long since Cassandra Cain had a CONFIRMED love interest.
Tumblr media
I think fan interest in wanting Cass to get SOME loving is WHY we're at this point. The girl deserves it. Though personally I see ANOTHER option (if not Harper), who just happens to show up this issue too.
So I get WHY many shipping vibes are there for Cass/Cela.
Tumblr media
But the rest of the issue is Cass coming up with a plan to FINALLY be free while also dealing with Maia problem too.
And here we get our SECOND bit of Cass in the issue.
Tumblr media
This and a few other reaction images are so getting memed by us Cass fans. I know it.
But yeah it's a nice "character progression" from someone who told a "bad story" in #1 to now coming up with a good plan in #12.
And the plan even involves a homage to what Sophie Campbell is most famous for. 😁😁😁
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You thought I wouldn't notice the streams crossed did ya? BUT I DID!
Birds of Prey #12 is an emotional ride but with a toony twist. It has such a glorious cute edge this issue. And this world with the Birds REALLY clicked. I've gone back to reading this issue more over than the prior bits of this arc.
I feel there's nothing more to say than I'm REALLY curious where this all goes next issue and how this will tie into the Spirit World?
I guess we'll see. Other than, I'm curious what your thoughts are on Cass/Cela?
And are you surprised it's been THAT LONG Cass had a love interest?
*this is me now waiting for comments*

i was wondering if cissie's appearance in ga was originally williamson's idea to confirm the old joke that she is ollie's daughter, but the editors vetoed it? this seems quite similar to his usual narrative about blood children
That was my first thought too when Cissie was teased as appearing in the run at the outset. It would be in line with other things he’s done, because goodness knows Cissie’s essentially never met any of the Arrows previously, making her inclusion somewhat bizarre.
The other element I note is that Red Canary (Sienna), looks like a failed pitch to secretly be Sin Lance, between the name and costume. But of course we now HAVE Sin back over in Birds of Prey (which tbh is the title she by rights was best to return in), leaving Sienna at a loose end as a mysterious character with no surname, a costume that makes her look like a leftover 5G pitch for the next gen Canary, but having arrived too late.
And if this the case (and Williamson was told he couldn’t have the Sin plot as Kelly Thompson had it), it somewhat explains why Emiko, Mia, Sienna and Cissie arrive in issue #10 in a group with basically no plot support or justification for anything - Williamson had already committed to using them from the very promo. If he then had lost the stories he wanted to tell, he had no other ideas and so they just sort of…show up.
On the other hand, he hasn’t bothered having plots for Emiko or Mia EITHER. So he might always not really have considered them as important in any way.
(It is incredibly aggravating that they’re getting treated like a random clump of characters that don’t need to be distinguished between)

Thoughts on the new announcements on absolute comics
Anonymous asked: Hello! How are you feeling? What do you think of the new creative teams DC announced for October?
Anonymous asked: So ! What are your thoughts on the All In initiative and the new creative teams for the existing books like Action ?
txtmasterblast asked: On a scale of 0 to 10, how much are you looking forward to the upcoming Absolute Universe line?
Thought I'd save this for SDCC since there are still some rumored books that are yet to be confirmed, but I can save my thoughts for when those are officially announced. Short version is that this is extremely exciting.
Tumblr media
Dawn of DC was DC playing it safe, and they botched the initiative because of how they spammed low quality events like Knight Terrors. Now they're stepping up to the plate and trying to tap into the energy created by Marvel's Ultimate Universe and the Energon Universe. They're trying to take a big swing and hit a home run. After multiple attempts by Didio to create something like this, it's downright ironic that Snyder finally is the one to do it given the two of them clashed at the end of their tenures. Once again Snyder seems to be trying to infuse the DCU with the essence of Metal, and at least this version appears to revolve less around Batman. I won't lie, hearing Snyder name drop Doomsday Clock and talk about "Darkseid Energy" in the promo video made me cringe.
The success of Hickman's Ultimate Universe and the Energon Universe came because they broke free of the usual shared universe comic nonsense. The Maker is an evil Reed Richards who eliminated all the heroes who couldn't be turned in order to build his perfect world. Energon was a reboot with no prior knowledge required. Simple! If the Absolute Universe requires me to know about the "Metaverse", throw it the trash because it's doomed. If the first issues of these books are not able to be read standalone with zero prior knowledge required, it's going to fail. The All-In one shot should tell us why this universe exists, what the pitch is, but it needs to be free from the kind of esoteric meta commentary which has poisoned DC for the last decade or so. Darkseid meddles with an Earth in order to understand his foes better is an easy concept to grasp. Don't make it any more complicated than that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Absolute Batman by Scott Snyder & Nick Dragotta - Least exciting of the bunch. Unless Snyder is going to radically change up his writing style, we know how his Bruce sounds. Even without the wealth Batman usually has, I expect this will feel very familiar. Since I've dropped all the other Bat books however, I plan on getting this and two others for my Bat fix. Snyder has teased that Scarecrow and Bane are the two Bat villains he wished he could've done more with during his first run. Scarecrow is my favorite Batman villain and the thugs in the ashcan look like thugs of his to me. I think this Batman will be juicing himself with Venom, explains why he's huge, which is a much better justification for why Bane seeks this Batman out than anything they've come up with elsewhere. That logo sucks but I assume it's because this Batman has to make use with whatever he can scavenge, maybe that is a literal bulletproof plate to guard his chest which he shaped to look like a Bat as best as he could.
Absolute Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson & Hayden Sherman - Thompson was a fan of the Azz/Chiang New 52 Wondy up until the reveal about the Amazons being rapists. Between the reuse of the silver/red color combo for this Wondy's armor, and how she doesn't have access to Paradise Island or other Amazons, I'm getting very similar vibes. I was a fan of Azz's run even though I acknowledge he "broke" her in several ways, I'm up for a second stab at a Wondy like that with Thompson. Tattoos show Hecate's symbol from Historia, perhaps this Wondy got her powers from Hecate only? My theory is Hippolyta went with her Bana sisters to war, and was never Queen of Themyscira. When she had Diana then, it was in Man's World. If this is dark urban fantasy Wondy, that would make for a good contrast with King's current political thriller run.
Absolute Superman by Jason Aaron & Rafa Sandoval - Bizarro arc was great, Sandoval is one of the best artists in DC's roster, I'm all in (hehe). No Fortress is a shame but since Bats and Wondy don't have their bases either I accept it. No family and no home is particularly intriguing. Seen a lot of speculation about what that entails, from this Superman being raised in an orphanage like the Action #1 origin, to Kal being sent from Krypton when he was old enough to remember it. If it's the latter then Absolute Kara will likely be dead, since she would overlap too much with this Superman. I love the design, grey suit with Morrison's first All-Star shield that Quietly only drew for one panel is a peak look. Hairstyle reminds me of Corenswet's "Clark" hair only longer, also reminds me of Anakin/Luke Skywalker which might be exactly the intention. His "cape" appears to be made of solar energy, perhaps this Superman has trouble controlling his powers? His solar battery biology might work differently here, with him "leaking". Or perhaps he even has a different powerset entirely? Seems like he can channel power into his arms/fists, if we get heat/ice fists instead of vision/breath, that would be the kind of silliness I love. Don't think this Superman will be paired with Lois, which frankly is a good thing. All the other major Superman projects focus on the Clois romance, for this to stand out I believe Absolute Superman needs to be dating other people. Since he seems to be a drifter, Aaron might eventually have him travel to other planets, where we could get Maxima or someone entirely new.
Other books have leaked and are probably right considering Bleeding Cool accurately called the Trinity, but I'll wait until they get revealed officially - likely at SDCC - before giving my thoughts.
Tumblr media
For the mainline universe:
Justice League - Superman is apparently building a new JL that will be going after Darkseid and reshaping the cosmic hierarchy of the DCU. If DC had any brains left in their collective heads they would give this book to PKJ, but he's denied being on JL. Ram V still has a book to announce, maybe it's him? I would've said Waid but without Mora I don't think he'd take the job. Aaron is a possibility albeit not one I'd want. Seen some people say Lemire, and he did write the JL crossover with his Black Hammer verse. Please let it not be Taylor.
Superman - Mora joining the book took me by surprise, that is sure to have generated major fuming from certain corners. Doomsday arc is going to be a joy to look at
Action Comics - Waid and Henry are finally announced. Action going weekly was unexpected however. Only question I have is, does this mean Waid is staying on past that one arc? Not clear but since he will have more issues that the previous three Superstars I would assume so. Bitter as I am over PKJ getting kicked off before he could tell the Aethyr story he was building up to, Waid bringing in Morrison's Phantom King does make me happy.
Detective Comics - Taylor taking over made me breathe a sigh of relief. For now he remains quarantined to the Batbooks and Elseworlds.
Nightwing - Watters and Soy are going to finally give us the epic run Nightwing deserves. Watters deserves to be a "big writer" and with any luck this will be what elevates him to that level.
Batman & Robin - Damnit PKJ, you really going to make me read a mainline Bat book? Fine but you better continue the Olgrun plotline through this somehow. In all seriousness with Zdarsky and Taylor being on the other books I expect this will be the best mainline Batman book on the stands. Every previous time PKJ has written Batman has been enjoyable, and I trust him of all writers to do something different with Batman. Let this be the book that gets the general DC audience to take notice of how good he's been elsewhere.
Titans - Nah.
Green Arrow - Wish Montos luck, he deserves to be one of DC's A-List artists, but not interested in Green Arrow.
Exciting shake-ups are on the way, going to have to start trimming my pull again. Anything that doesn't wow me is getting dropped because I need the cash for all those Absolute books, which appear to be stacked creatively.

It's time again for another Library Trade Roundup! In which I talk about all the books I checked of the library on my last time around.
Wolverine: Black, White, and Blood -- I'm a sucker for a good black&white or black, white&color anthology and this one was printed in oversize form so it was like 1 1/3 or 1.5 times larger than a standard comic book. This was just a very enjoyable read. It had some great artists working on it and the oversized art was a treat to see. The black, white, and blood concept meant that the use of red was really effective throughout (with a special shout out to Declan Shalvey's story in the first issue and the single red lettered 'blood'). I am also not immune to the appeal of watching Wolverine commit bloody slaughter. I'll have to see if I can find some of the other white black and blood anthologies at my library.
Dawn of X vol. 2 -- After reading X-Men: Red, I've started dipping my toe into modern X comics at the beginning of the krakoa era. I'd read House of X/Powers of X and Dawn of X vol. 1 digitally but I picked this one up physically when I saw it. The Dawn of X volumes each collect one issue from each of the X-books so this one was 5 issue #2s which has been giving a different feel to the reading experience so far. I do like not having to worry about figuring out which X books go where. I think Marauders is my favorite series so far of the 2 issues I've read of each. Fallen Angels is yet to really click for me. And across all books, my continued reaction is 'watching X-Men evolution as a kid did not sufficiently prepare me for the presumably decades of X drama being referenced.'
Hawkeye by Matt Fraction and David Aja Omnibus -- All of my Omnibuses are these big honking things, so at 24 collected issues this has got to be the shortest one I've read. Anyway, I see why people like this run so much. The visual storytelling of these comics was very strong. Storywise, I'm not sure if I've got much else to say other than it was good, but it's probably not going to stick with me. I think it's much more likely that the visuals do. The Kate Bishop subplot confirmed for me that Kelly Thompson was a strong fit for her solo series and also that I'm less invested it. It might've been because the Kate Bishop issues were also the ones that tended to get guest artist fills, but I found myself putting down the book more often during them.
Paper Girls -- This was a wild ride. I'm not sure what I was expecting coming into this, but it wasn't what it turned out to be. I'm curious to see where it's going. I really liked Chiang's art in this and the cypher was very fun to sit down and puzzle out.
She-Hulk: Breaking the Fourth Wall -- This was just a fun read. For the most part, the comics this collected weren't trying to take themselves seriously and it made for a very enjoyable read. I also enjoyed all the fourth wall break gags. This is the first thing I've read of She-Hulk so I don't know if this is typical for her, but it made me interested to check out more.
The Autumnlands vol. 1: Tooth and Claw -- I picked this up because it had a pretty cover and it had colors by Jordie Bellaire, but I was a little surprised at how much I enjoyed it! Bellaire's colors were gorgeous as always--I love how she colored the magic, but the plot also has so many elements that I enjoy. We've got the nations of magical animal creatures, and they're trying to solve the problem of why magic is disappearing and they do it by trying to summon the ancient hero of legend--who turns out to be a soldier from a technologically advanced time. It's not the most unique premise, but it's one that I enjoy and it's very well executed. The art's pretty and the solider guy is doing chemistry stuff with bat guano to make/harness explosives to blow up a bridge. What more do you need? This is hitting all of the notes that sucked me into reading David Webber books in high school. This story definitely has the potential to be a spanning epic, but it looks like there are only fourteen issues. Alas, I'll have to see how the story gets wrapped up if I can find the next volume at the library.

Taxpayers will find out in two months how much extra it will cost to fix the mechanical problems and lead-tainted water on board the navy’s new Arctic and offshore patrol ships.
But Procurement Canada’s top bureaucrat has reassured parliamentarians that costs on the multi-billion-dollar vessels are coming down, despite figures showing the price tag actually jumped another $780 million over the past year.
This newspaper reported in December that the first Arctic and offshore patrol ship, HMCS Harry DeWolf, would be out of service until April because of ongoing mechanical problems, including issues with diesel generators. Questions have also been raised about the safety of drinking water on the vessels, also known as AOPS.
An investigation revealed that some fittings and valves in the potable water system were manufactured from alloys that exceeded the allowable amount of lead. National Defense confirmed Shipbuilding installed the fittings and valves on HMCS Harry DeWolf, HMCS Margaret Brooke, HMCS Max Bernays, and HMCS William Hall.
National Defense originally acknowledged that Harry DeWolf wouldn’t be back in operations, but now can’t say when that might happen.
Paul Thompson, deputy minister at Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), recently told parliamentarians that repair costs remained unknown and told the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee on Feb. 13 that he could not talk about ongoing discussions with AOPS builder Irving Shipbuilding.
But in December 2022, National Defense officials confirmed the repairs to HMCS Harry DeWolf wouldn’t be covered by Irving Shipbuilding because the warranty for the company’s workmanship on the vessel, delivered in 2020, was only for one year.
Simon Page, assistant deputy minister for defence and marine procurement at PSPC, told MPs it would take at least two months before some of the repair costs for the ships were known.
Thompson, however, highlighted the AOPS program as a success and said it has seen good progress in the Arctic and offshore patrol ship programs, with three ships so far and the cost per ship decreasing," he told MPs. "As the Canadian industry continues to gain more experience along the way, we expect to see even more efficiencies."
In early January, however, Thompson’s own department noted the cost of AOPS was increasing and had jumped by $780 million over the past year. The cost of the ships now exceeds $6 billion.
National Defense, Public Services, and Procurement Canada noted the extra money was needed to deal with reduced labour availability, higher costs resulting from COVID-19 protocols such as screening and cleaning, and price increases on transportation and spare parts.
Conservative MP Kelly McCauley, who closely monitors military procurements, said spending on the AOPS project was out of control and there was no oversight on the program.
McCauley said in an interview Friday that the information provided by PSPC about AOPS costs supposedly going down didn’t match reality and was just more BS from PSPC." He said costs are going up, and that comes from the departments themselves.”
Irving spokesperson Mary Keith previously noted, “Canada and Irving Shipbuilding have been working together to address design issues that, under certain conditions, could contribute to the degradation of potable water systems on delivered ships.”
In addition, HMCS Max Bernays, another AOPS, was accepted in September from Irving even though the system allowing the vessel to manoeuvre wasn’t functioning properly.
There were also problems with the fire suppression system on HMCS Harry DeWolf.

(also, bold of them to say they can’t be flirty or fun or interesting as a married couple when not only kelly thompson proved them wrong in not just mmx but captain marvel, but preeti chhibber just did over on marvel unlimited, like, a month ago lmfaooo)
And what’s the reason why they didn’t use Rogue for main events? is it because the xoffice doesn’t truly want to use her or is because they couldn’t tie her as a mere trophy girlfriend to some writer self-insert.
oh, 100%. it felt like that was a confirmation of why she’s been wallpaper in gd’s books despite him seeming to like her in his previous uncanny avengers runs (which… really creeps and bums me out, because i’d enjoyed his writing in the past.) lord knows i have my issues with how rogue and gambit were cheerleaders and wallpaper respectively in the betsy stealth solo series, but… like… at least they occasionally got some pagetime. this feels like gd just wanted her away from gambit… and then keeps giving her nothing to do
(maybe the tide will turn in ua #3, but i already dropped all krakoa books. i’ll eventually catch up on ewing’s red on unlimited, but i’m done being charlie brown with the football when it comes to these dudes lol)
i also think gambit being more character assassinated in r&g 2.0 (and don’t get me wrong, rogue was also hella ooc. the flirty, sassy, punch-em-up spitfire is now… bland girl scout nag wife? did she swap bodies with another x-character this era? like…) is because GD is the one who wrote the outline of that series and handed it over to the new writer unfamiliar with the characters. meanwhile, tini also didn’t seem to care about either character (they were clearly there to boost sales for her betsy solo) and saw rogue as more useful as a handmaiden for said stealth lead, so therefore gambit is just… there (alongside jubilee, who also got to do absolutely nothing)
i will also say it’s pretty funny that they claim rogue is defined by her relationship to gambit despite her long stretches of being single when they weren’t together…
meanwhile, the character exclusively pushed just because jdw and a bunch of noted creeps (including warren ellis, joss wh*don, and mr. cb “yellowface” cebulski himself) have been obsessed with her since puberty and are always pairing with their new self insert is currently considered a “girlboss” this era… because she’s shoved front and center, yet it’s the first time ever she has been single since she was like… 14?? 🤢
add the fact that the only reason rogue and gambit got married in the first place is because JDW took over for the previous editor and was mad that guggenheim was marrying off their shared waifu to colossus. so the writers room scrambled to find a replacement and rogue/gambit were only given the wedding last minute as a band-aid… it makes him claiming they’ve been sidelined “because of their marriage” all feel even grosser
that aipt interview didn’t say anything that rogue and gambit fans didn’t already know about that office or this era lol:
-that jdw dislikes them both but dislikes rogue more (gambit got a solo and she didnt; she’s also the one that’s been missing from every single event poster, that new tarot deck, and now, even the 60th anniversary ‘90s variant covers)
-that the idea of marriage makes characters “stale” (these dudes are married irl, btw, which… hmm!!!!!!!!)
like… yeah wbk lol

Rogue in Captain Marvel (2019) #43, written by Kelly Thompson and illustrated by Sergio Dávila.
(*) It has been confirmed that Rogue still keeps the long-distance absortion ability she developed on Mr. and Mrs. X (2018).

Okay to be super boring about this, because the Tom King post is annoying me and people can't count:
We don't have a confirmed publication date for the Trinity series yet. We only have solicits out to November 2024.
In November 2024, the DC publication stats for women look like this:
Mariko Tamaki (Action Comics backup)
Kelly Thompson (Birds of Prey, Absolute Wonder Woman)
Josie Campbell (Shazam!, My Adventures with Superman)
G. Willow Wilson (Poison Ivy)
Torunn Grønbekk (Catwoman)
Leah Williams (Power Girl)
LaToya Morgan (DC Horror Presents #2)
5 of the 7 women on this list have an ongoing title. Thompson has TWO. I also have suspicions that Tamaki might be about to get another Supergirl title, given she is solicited for at least an 8-issue backup run on Action with Kara.
In November, Tom King has:
Wonder Woman (ongoing)
Jenny Sparks (issue 4/6)
Black Canary (issue 1/6)
I wouldn't be shocked if the Trinity series does not start until Jenny Sparks finishes. I also would be less than surprised if it's about as successful as Sinister Sons was.
Do I think there should be more women and gender diverse people writing comics? Of course! I also think that more of them should be writing comics that aren't exclusively about women. But there's no need to pretend the situation is worse than it actually is.

Via hellsite, Kelly Thompson has confirmed that Cass is pretty much in BoP indefinitely until someone tells her to take her off the book.
Tumblr media
I can only see that happening if Cass ever gets a solo or a Batgirls relaunch happens, so... she's probably in BoP indefinitely. 😭
We still haven't seen DC's announcements for AAPI month which also conveniently falls on Cassandra's anniversary, but my guess is at most she could get another miniseries, I don't know if that would constitute taking her off BoP, lol.
