something i can't stop thinking about is how keith had no one to welcome him home. his only connection to earth was shiro, and he was in space, then he found his space mom. So i'd like to offer the idea of keith and lance dating, yes, but when they get to earth and lance gets hugged by everyone in the family, he brings them to keith and is like "this is my boyfriend! and his alien mom! and his alien dog! love him!" and his family does.

A little bit of rambling of him below the break, spoilers (Keith's route, and little bit of Nokto's route) and such :0 so you have been warned.

TL;DR: I enjoyed the route despite its questionable elements. MC is too forgiving at times, but other than that, romanctic route was cute. Licht, the third wheel, was funny but sad.

Okay first about Keith's visual design: I really love how his design is the most asymmetrical from the suitors. Like the jacket and the vest he has. The jacket is very interestingly layered, almost like you aren't sure which part is the main thing and what is the accent. The green or the gold? The host or the alter? : D Same with his vest. His duality is battling in his clothing too hahaha

Keith's route was interesting. I had heard lots of differing opinions about it and I had my own reservations.

One mainly about the portrayal of DID and how the route does it. First things first: I'm not an expert at all. I won't even humor the idea that I had any say in anything regarding it. But overall, it could have been worse? Of course it might be very extreme in the way Alter Keith is hostile towards Host Keith. And of course you shouldn't take this as the only way the alter systems work. But as I said: I'm not an expert.

I had heard that the dramatic route follows Alter Keith and romantic route host Keith. I picked the romantic one. I had my personal reasons for that tho. But aside from that, it was nice to be with Keith that who struggled with self-worth. It was nice to see him grow as a character and find that strength to stand up for himself. (The fact that the host Keith seems to think that he is inferior to Alter Keith and that people would prefer the alter over him. The amount of stress that will bring. )

Keith's uncle was your very generic villain/antagonist without any real depth. He was a spoiled noble and so on. But since this was more about Keith inner journey I thought it was fine that it was like that.

The drugging scene… Well. That's a… a topic. Hmm… Host Keith himself felt very guilty about it and was full of remorse. Not that it was his choice to do it. Alter Keith well… He might justify it because he was gathering information about a rumor that might endanger his home country and people if it were true. I kinda can see where he is coming from, but also...IT CERTAINLY WAS DESTROYING OF TRUST. Like that time when Nokto "accidently" gets MC drunk. but hey ho. Since there is limited time frame for the chapters, I do understand they can't really jam all the things there, but I wanted Belle be more angry with him with Alter Keith for longer.

Maybe that's what bugs me sometimes. That Belle/Emma/MC is sometimes too forgiving and too much of a doormat. It works in routes like Yves and Licht (from the routes I have played, Leon seems like the most respectable gentleman too), because they are not being insulting towards her. I would even think that she works with Clavis, tho I would love to see him with someone who shares his chaotic gremlin energy. But with characters like Chev, Silvio or Alter Keith the their "power" doesn't feel balanced. MC seems to be completely on their mercy even if they stand up to them in some way. (Gilbert is another can of nasty things.)(With Chev's route, well, that is also a rambling for another time. But I haven't finished his route yet. so I will keep my ramblings to myself for now.)

Is Keith's route more about acceptance then? Accepting the good and the bad of a person? Possibly. I would think that is a good way to put it. Both Keiths have good and bad sides. And it seems that they are working on them.

Friendly reminder; don't make queer ships straight by making one of them a woman! If you want one to be a woman, both should be women. You can't just make the small twink character a girl and not make his big buff counterpart also a girl it feels gross and fetishy cause at that point why are you shipping queer ships at all? Just find a straight ship? Subtract the twink from the equation all together you don't have to make him a woman to make the ship better in some way, he's adding nothing if you make him a girl then it's just the same ship we have a million times in any other media. Gay erasure in fandom space is so annoying cause it's like YOU LIKE THE GAY SHIP OBVIOUSLY, WHY ARE YOU MAKING THEM STRAIGHT??

Idk but I sorta felt like the entire earth arc was such a waste in some ways. 

Like in many ways, throughout the series, Earth has become a ghost story. To those left behind, the Paladins are all but dead, but to the Paladins, the people they remember are amorphous, otherworldly, alive in some ways but dead in others. 

To Lance and Hunk, they haven’t thought of how time passes. They’re both afraid of how they’ve changed, but they haven’t realized how much their families have. Haven’t let themselves realize, really. 

Shiro cut his ties with earth, so to speak. He never really believed he was going back. This isn’t a dream come true for him. This is just another impossible thing, just as important and impersonal as any other mission. 

Pidge is a strange case. She never believed the people out there were dead, and she’s seen some of her family, some of her ghosts, more recently than the others. And they’ve seen her. There’s a sense of connection there that the others don’t have. 

As for Keith, he has nothing to return to. No one is grieving him, and the only ghost he left behind is a grave. He’s not going home. He found home in space. With the Paladins in the Castle, with the Blade in secret, and in the Quantum Abyss with Krolia. 

For the Alteans, Earth is nothing but a story. To Krolia, a planet to house her little place of peace. Not home, certainly. 

Home is a prison and a graveyard, as far as Romelle is concerned. Home means combat training and artificial light and tradition to Krolia. To Coran, it’s a bittersweet memory. To Allura, a gaping hole in her chest.

just. idk. something something a house is what you haunt and home is what haunts you. or whatever.

i've never understood art or fic that makes either of them very fem or masc. i'm still bitter about the fandom on mass deciding to make keith a muscular and masculine man who sweeps lance off his feet after he had the growth spurt in season 6. i'm sorry but that's a twink. keith is perfectly in the middle with gender presentation and will always stay that way. lance in voltron canon dresses more masc-ish than keith, but that's 17 year old lance. he's still coming to terms with his bisexuality and he's still unlearning society's ideals. a theoretical slightly older lance who is more comfortable with himself could be a bit gnc (and look hot doing it). crop tops, well fitting jeans, cool jewelry etc. but he's not a skirts and dresses guy. keith isn't either. you know who is? coran

Modern au where Eddie has a decent following in social media and is known as both a guy who does ttrpg with a few friends and does cool metal covers of different song genres. He's weird, sure, and will also post two minute video monologues but it's done while camera is mildly unfocused on a worm on the wet pavement, or he'll rant about prog rock and then two minutes later go "I'm sorry my statements on Keith Emmerson were inappropriate and I guess" *pauses and looks off camera* "he totally deserves to be in the rock and roll Hall of Fame" like it's a hostage video and someone made him say it because he looks like he's having a terrible time about it.

Anyways he's an internet funny little man and one day he posts a tiktok or what have you labeled "tfw ur bf is sitting in his platonic soulmate's lap instead of yours" and it's just of Steve sitting sideways across Robin's lap on someone's couch chatting and smiling with her before turning to Eddie and giving a little finger wave.

This is of course met with internet hullabaloo because is that Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley? Famous indie music duo who are also starring in a popular new tv series? Social media weirdos? Beloved and popular and bizarre and memeable? Queer icons RobinandSteve? Was Eddie serious? He was dating thee Steve Harrington?

An hour later Robin tags Eddie in a post that is a video obviously taken from slightly under Steve as the angles are a bit weird, and Eddie can be heard saying "oh my god how could I have forgotten you're, like, really famous how'd I do that Steve! Babe, Stop laughing! It was supposed to be a silly relatable post! You're no better Buckley-hey why are you filming this? My mortification isn't funny!!" While the video is just shaking of Steve curling in on himself and Robin trying to focus on Eddie and you can hear them both cackling over Eddie talking. She captions it "tfw ur QPP's bf forgets you two are famous and that most ppl don't know they're dating. Or didn't, at least"

I would have loved if Krolia wasn't a good person.

Like yes, Keith reuniting w/ his Galra mother and them fighting for the same cause is rlly nice but...

Damn I would have loved if Krolia wasn't an undercover Blade, and genuinely a part of the empire.

She gets stuck on earth with no way to communicate with the outside world, and does settle down and fall in love w/ Tex because she knows there's no hope to rlly ever leave the planet.

Of course, we know she eventually does get to leave and that's just such an interesting conflict she would be presented with! Keith is a baby, her baby, could she really take him to war? He could stay on earth, But she believes in the Galra cause and is a loyal soldier to a fault, how could she abandon her empire? So she does leave him w/ Tex but promises to return when the Galra Empire wins the war.

Obviously, it takes much longer than anticipated and Keith grows up without a mother, becomes a paladin yada yada

Can you imagine if they met again??? Last time Krolia saw Keith, he was her little kit, and NOW he's not only a paladin of Voltron but also a part of BOM, a group of Galra traitors???? (It does present the plot hole of the knife tho...maybe she kept it as a souvenir of a blade she killed in the past? Yet all this time Keith thought it meant he was a blade legacy or something Idk)

It would be so interesting to see her trying to win him over, and could show us as viewers some of Galra propaganda the empire feeds to its soldiers.

She made the vow to never leave him again, but how far is she willing to take that?

keith learnt from an early age that being angry got attention. it was easy to ignore a calm kid who was lightly tapping you and asking for attention, but it was much harder when the yells of a kid were like the sound of nails on a chalkboard.

of course keith learnt very early on that yelling and being angry was a form of sure way of getting his foster families attention.

he didnt learn that not all attention was good, later on. after his fifth, he started making a tally on how different families reacted to anger. or, any emotion. really. he treated it like it was a study. anything, so make sure he didnt get attached.

then shiro. shiro didnt react. well, he did. but not like how keith was told adults reacted. sure shiro was maybe 8 or 9 maybe years older total, but he was an adult. and keith wasnt.

but shiro was fine with his anger. was fine with his emotions. was fine with keith. keith started to feel at home. i mean, who wouldnt.

lance grew up in a large family that is used to so much noise that a lot of the time, lance isn't heard. it's not that his family is ignoring him but things just get lost and for someone like lance who cannot Shut The Fuck Up it happens very often. then his friends grow used to his prattle and it just becomes like white noise for them. lance is so used to being ignored that when he realized keith was actually listening to him and comprehending his babble, he is just a puddle.

keith is silent as he listens to every word lance says while lance is like barely paying attention to what he says (adhd x autism ftw) and it happens in front of the rest of the team but whatever lance just said caught one of their attentions and they interrupt to ask him to repeat what he said and lance is just like "you think i know what was coming out of my mouth?" and keith repeats what lance said perfectly. lance stares at him and is Soft but all he can manage is a smile.

it gets so much worse, lance turns his prattle to keith instead of the room in general and is so excited that someone is actually listening that his speech grows faster and faster until he's barely speaking anything intelligible (bonus hc lance speaks many languages so when he gets excited its just a combination of various different languages. it starts with spanglish then he incorporates samoan and then portuguese and italian etc etc)

Still obsessed with the crew going "yea they might not end up together this time, but Keith and Allura love each other to the ends of the universe" and kept posting all this art of other media where they're dressed as the love interests in that media – and did that whole con hunt with the storyboards for their Ark of Taujeer pre-escapade hangar talk – and had Steven put all the warmth and emotion into his voice for "Remember when we first met Allura..." in the conference room – and had him support her through the depths of her missions – and had Keith be told Allura would have been so proud of the man he became – and had them tell each other about how much impact they've had on each other – and made them embrace so lovingly but couldn't even animate them letting go of each other and and and

I just found out that there has never been an instance where a Left 4 Dead survivor has said the word "Fuck" despite the game's mature rating. So naturally I decided I'm going to make Left 4 Dead 3 and it's going to feature Keith as a character, and in the intro of the game his very first line will be "WHAT'S UP FUCKERS!?"
