O'Knutzy Week Day 5
Yooo, we've made it to the end!! (Of creating at least, still two more days left but I didn't have time to make anything. Also still written in advance to the actual week.)
Anyway, I figured for the last day I would share the songs on my O'Knutzy playlist I listened to while writing my stories (+ the characters they remind me of and why they did)
Credit of this beautiful thing we call Logan Tremblay, Finn O'Hara, and Leo Knut to @lumosinlove , and thanks to @oknutzy-week-2024 for also just being amazing.
Anyway songs under cut :)
shhh its a shit ton of Hozier
Line Without a Hook, Rick Montgomery - Ok look at me and tell me this isn't Harvard Era Finnlo. "You can hold my hand if no ones there" LOGAN! "All my emotions feel like explosions when you're around" FINN! Nuff' said.
Wish You Were Sober, Conan Gray - I only need one word to explain this one. Harvard. Next!
Sun, Two Door Cinema Club - Mainly reminds me of Finn, especially when he's in Gryfindor and Logan's still at Harvard. But also like listen to it, literally the entire song is just them.
Young In America, Barnes Courtney - Just gives me that Harvard vibe yk, Finn and Logan being best friends and then being drawn apart, it just fits them Imo. ALSO THAT LAST FUCKING VERSE IS SO UGH FINNLO (Also happens to be my favorite song rn so that may be part of it but like it's still them)
Running In Circles, Dead Poet Society - LOGAN. Specifically Logan his last year of college without Finn and him being in pain. Him having to hide it as well, and pretending he's not completely fucking devastated without Finn. Just the angst.
Atlantis, Seafret - Makes me think of Logan being scared and constantly telling Finn they can't and pretty much everything after the night Finn leaves Harvard. The feeling of helpless and inevitable heartbreak is very in line with that period of time.
Mind Over Matter, Young The Giant - Very Logan coded. Kinda how I imagined him with Leo and Finn before they got together. Also, "Cause' I'm a young man built to fall" is just something I think Logan would have told himself on why he couldn't tell Finn or Leo.
To Someone From A Warm Climate, Hozier - Also very Logan coded, I imagine him just quietly singing this into Leo's ear in the dark of a winter night, which are cold in Gryfindor which Leo is NOT used to.
Francesca, Hozier - Ahem, "the entire fucking song". Finn. This song = Finn. More exactly reflecting back on all of the hurt he and Logan went through together and knowing he would do it again. And again. And again. Especially when he's a Lion and O'Knutzy isn't a thing yet.
Home, Good Neighbours - Leo's homesickness, Logan missing Gryfindor in NY, Finn wanting to go back to Logan at Harvard. All of it. Though it did mainly make me think of Leo going home for a little bit after the Rangers knocked the Lions out of the playoffs in Vaincre.
TIMEZONE, Maneskin - Let me take you back to a lovely place called Logan fully ditching all-stars to see Leo and Finn in Vaincre. If this isn't the most Logan song I've ever heard, I don't even know. Also could be Logan in NY, or even Finn in Gryf while Logan's at Harvard.
Heaven Must Have Sent You, The Elgins - Leo. Just the way Leo tends to think about Finn and Logan, and he's definitely played this while dinner was cooking and the three of them danced in the kitchen.
Can't Take My Eye's Off You, Frankie Valli - Leo sings this at karaoke night constantly and you cannot tell me otherwise. Anyway, self explanatory, moving on.
Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene, Hozier - Finn and the way he thinks of Leo and Logan. I think that's enough.
From Eden, Hozier - Yk, I don't actually have a clear explination for this one, it just gives me those O'Knutzy vibes.
Somewhere Only We Know, Keane - Reminds me of Harvard and the Roof, but also just a very O'Knutzy and FinLo song that makes me want to reread Coast to Coast.
Ditmas, Mumford and Sons - FinLo falling apart after Finn graduates. The angst is very appropriate and obviously it doesn't last but this is how I imagine it was back then.
i wanna be your girlfriend, girl in red - Very self explanatory, we don't need to dwell on it.
Figure You Out, VOILA - Hey remember when Logan freaked out when he though Finn got a girlfriend? This, it's this. Every time one little romantic interest and Logan just turns into the embodiment of this song.
Mercy, Shawn Mendes - Ok yes Ik it's basic but this is totally how Finn felt when him and Logan were doing their little dance around each other and it was absolutely Killing Finn.
Thinking Out Loud, Ed Sheeran - OK I GET IT ALSO BASIC but it does genuinely make me think of an older O'Knutzy, one that will love each other for a very long time and will love each other no matter what happens and how they change.
High, Stephen Sanchez - Sorry this song is so Finn being fucking horny over Logan in college and thinking about all the things he would do to him given the chance.
Beautiful Things, Benson Boone - SHUT UP I KNOW BASIC, but anyway this is Logan thinking over the last few years and how things have gotten so much better but also being so so so scared he could lose it all in a moment. His beautiful things are Finn and Leo.
Supernatural, Barnes Courtney - Finn constantly at Harvard. Logan and him are dancing around each other and Logan keeps fucking touching him and being so close and it drives him insane. And just a very Harvard Era song.
Like Real People Do, Hozier - Not Finn saying "can we for once not kiss while we're both crying" and that's literally just this song in different words, ok?
If She's Anything Like Me, MALINDA - Logan with every single girl Finn talks about or even looks at. Finn is genuinely the most perfect and lovable person in his eyes, so why wouldn't everyone else love him, too? And just because he doesn't have the guts to say it, that doesn't mean they won't.
Heat Waves, Glass Animals - Ok ok ok ok ok hear me out..... Actually I don't have much to defend this so Ig it's just all of them staying up late at night just thinking about each other.
Home, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - A very FinLo coded song, especially with the "Jade...Alexander....I was falling deep deep deeply in love with you," part because tell me that didn't happen. Also Leo works in here too because home is with his boys and their home will always be with him, too.
When He Sees Me, Kimiko Glenn & co - Definitely what Leo came into his Rookie season thinking. Especially once he met Finn and Logan knowing he'd be head over heels if he wasn't careful. Just very Leo as well because ofc he's fucking defensive of his heart right after Jack bitchass Archer.
She, Foxy Venus - Guess, take a wild guess. Did you guess Harvard Era Finlo because yeah, that's it. More specifically I think Finn and trying to get Logan out of his mind and move on and that not working whatsoever.
Can't Help Falling in Love, Elvis Presley - This took me an embarrassingly long time to add but yeah Very much Leo with his boys and then Logan and Finn with Leo.
Can't Pretend, Tom Odell - Also took me an embarrassingly long time to add considering it HAS THE SAME TITLE AS ONE OF MY FUCKING WORKS but we don't need to dwell on it. Anyway, FinLo again, especially canonically when they have their little talks about loving each other and not admitting it.
This playlist will probably grow but y'all ain't getting my Spotify so it's just a list rn, might add onto it, idk. Anyway, hope this was suitable for a final O'Knutzy week post and figured it be fun to show you what I was listening to while writing all this. Genuinely I had To Someone From A Warm Climate on repeat while writing the first half of With a Straight Face because if y'all we're confused about the vibe, it's that (especially the beginning). Also Supernatural was on repeat for the first part of When We Can't Pretend (Oh and High was on repeat during the Kiss in the second half, lol).
Ok peace I genuinely can't wait to see everything when I get back in August!
#finn o'hara#logan tremblay#leo knut#o'knutzy#sweater weather lumosinlove#breakaway lumosinlove#vaincre lumosinlove#coast to coast lumosinlove#I'm so tired I can't tag rn#If yall made it this far congrats sorry for my weird music tase#I would have had more barns courtney if more fit with o'knutzy but unfortunately it does not#I should have gone to sleep two hours ago but alas#here I am#I'll probably just put to someone from a warm climate on repeat until I fall asleep#I'm actually so mad that I remembered can't pretend by Tom Odell only after i'd finished my fic with the exact same title#like that could have been perfect#anyway this was actually made the day before the actual week so I'm not as early in scheduling this one#hope it was a good week#Ill be back in August to see the beautiful trainwreck#o'knutzy week 2024#was#oh shit#forgot to tag#lumosinlove#told you Im tired#I'm going to bed now

Postcards from Ukraine to members of Congress – a suggestion 💡 🇺🇦 🇺🇸 📮
It's clear that House Speaker Mike Johnson is acting on orders from Donald Trump to prevent a Senate bill which includes aid to Ukraine from getting a vote in the House of Representatives. Johnson is a craven careerist who would sell his mother into slavery to please Trump.
The Senate bill ("Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act") could still be taken up – and would almost certainly pass – if just a handful of Republicans from moderate districts decided to support a parliamentary procedure called a "discharge petition" in order to bypass Speaker Johnson.
There are 17 Republicans in the House of Representatives in 2022 who won in congressional districts where Joe Biden had beaten Donald Trump in 2020. These Republicans from moderate districts would be a good grouping to entreat to support the discharge petition. A number of them have already expressed support for Ukraine in the past. It's a matter of getting them to put conscience ahead of their fear of Trump.
Below is a list of addresses of the district offices of those 17 Republican Representatives. If you are in Ukraine, buy a postcard and clearly write a short message which tells how you love freedom and how Putin's illegal war has affected you. It can be in English or Ukrainian. Use a Ukrainian stamp for postage and mail it as soon as possible.
Individuals need pick just 1 of the 17. But schools, businesses, clubs, and military units with at least 17 people can arrange to send one to each of the listed Representatives.
Be polite but urgent. Perhaps remind them that Ronald Reagan understood the dangers of Russian imperialism.

FAQ
Why physical mail instead of email or phone calls? There's an enormous chance that your email would end up in a spam folder. Also, the Congressional email system tends to prioritize email originating from the districts of each individual House member. Phone calls from outside the US are likely to be filtered out. Unlike email or phone calls, a physical piece of mail has a real world presence. The recipient has to do something with it. You can't simply press DELETE to get rid of it.
Why postcards and not letters? For security reasons. It takes less time and effort to inspect a postcard than a letter or parcel. Your mail will arrive sooner.
Why use postage stamps instead of a postage meter? You want the recipient to know that you are REALLY from Ukraine. Using official Ukrainian stamps is a simple way to do that. When people see Україна or Ukraina on the stamp then they will know it originated in Free Ukraine. FYI: the letter Ї does not exist in Russian, recipients should look for this on the stamp. Also, your stamp automatically turns the postcard into a collector's item. It is more likely to be saved and to serve as a continuing reminder of your urgent request.
Why send the postcards to district offices instead of offices in Washington? Postcards from Ukraine will get more attention locally by local staff; if a sizable number arrive, it might even get mentioned in local media. In Washington, people tend to be more blasé about such things.
What is the proper form of address for House members? Rep. or Representative before the surname – no distinction based on gender.
FOR REFERENCE: Here are electoral stats for the districts. The column marked R margin indicates the size of each Representative's winning margin in 2022. Rep. Duarte, for example, beat his Democratic opponent by a very narrow 0.4%

Last week, the House GOP pulled a move called “moving the bill on suspension.” This means they suspend the normal procedural rules, limit debate to only 40 minutes, disallow any amending of the proposed bill, and require a 2/3 majority to pass. This move is typically used for non-controversial formality type bills, such as bills to name post offices or recognize anniversaries or memorials. Because they failed to get 2/3 (289 votes) they’re not going to try that again and instead will try to get a simple majority (217 votes). It is easier for them to retain the 38 extra votes they have than for us to flip them.
HR 9495, as I mentioned above, gives the President and the Secretary of the Treasury the power to strip any nonprofit of its 501(c)3 status without any charges or due process, under the guise of preventing nonprofits from contributing to terrorism here or abroad. It would allow them to designate any nonprofit as “terrorism supporting” without providing ANY evidence or any recourse for the nonprofit to disprove the claim. This power will absolutely be weaponized against any organization that supports Palestine, that opposes law enforcement and Cop Cities, that supports abortion and facilitates abortion access, or that supports immigrants and provides immigration assistance. This is a Bad Bill and it blatantly violates the right of free speech granted to corporations under Citizens United.
Some good news: the vote last week was not the full House, there were 32 members not present (technically 33 but Matt Gaetz has since resigned so that number becomes 32). Additionally, the GOP just barely has the numbers on their own. They only fielded 204 votes in favor, 1 vote against, and 16 (now 15) not voting. The threshold is 217, they have 219.
SO. Here are your marching orders:
If you live in a district represented by a MoC who voted AGAINST the bill last week: contact their office, thank them for voting against it, express your concerns about it, and urge them to vote against it again. This includes people who live in KY-4 represented by Thomas Massie, who was the only GOP member to vote against the measure.
If you live in a district represented by a DEMOCRAT who voted FOR the bill: contact their office, let them know how disappointed you, as someone who just voted to re-elect them/voted for them in the past (whether this is true or not), are in their choice to violate the right of free speech, list your concerns about the specific organizations that will be affected, and urge them to change their vote next week.
If you live in the district of a DEMOCRAT who DIDN’T VOTE: contact their office, express your concerns about the bill and the specific organizations that may be impacted, and urge them to vote against it.
If you live in the district of a REPUBLICAN who DIDN’T VOTE: contact their office, express your concerns about how the bill violates the first amendment and represents government overreach into the affairs of private businesses, highlight that legislation regarding nonprofits and terrorism already exists and is effective, and urge them to vote against it. This includes people who live in North Dakota and are represented by Kelly Armstrong, who is part of a moderate Republicans caucus and can be considered flippable.
If you live in the district of the following REPUBLICANS who voted FOR the bill: contact their office, express your disappointment with their vote as someone who voted for them (whether this is true or not), express your concerns about how the bill violates the first amendment and represents government overreach into the affairs of private businesses, highlight that legislation regarding nonprofits and terrorism already exists and is effective, and urge them to flip their vote.
- Fitzpatrick, PA-1
- Chavez-DeRemer, OR-5
- Lawler, NY-17
- Kean Jr., NJ-7
- Valadao, CA-22
- Bacon, NE-2
- Molinaro, NY-19
- D’Esposito, NY-4
- Ciscomani, AZ-6
These are all MoCs who are part of that moderate caucus and are considered swing or lean dem votes by ProgressivePunch.
We need to flip as many of these votes as we can, and hold as many of these votes as we can, and the best way to do that is by telling your representative directly what you want. The bill goes back on the docket on Monday, but will likely not be voted on until Tuesday or Wednesday.
Our first victory against trump!
Time to start celebrating ALL the small wins, because EVERY win means a lot, and every win helps us fight for the next one!

Ditch Weather Predictions! Master Dew Point Magic! 🌦️
#DewPointDrama: A Humidity Odyssey Editor’s note: Summer 2023 has been one of the hottest on record — although one of the coolest we’ll ever see again — and we could all use a little help navigating the heat. So let's dive into a wacky world of weather wisdom, circa 2022 (another scorcher of a year!), that aims to crack the code of your weather app, or at least tickle your funny bone. When a 72-degree day feels like a swampy armpit, I start to realize that everything I’ve ever thought I understood about weather, mainly temperature, is a lie. Sweating through my shirt, wiping my brow, and staring in disbelief at my weather app wondering, “How could this be the 72°F I know and love?” Thankfully, I’ve found a better number to tell me how it’s going to feel outside — and it’s not the relative humidity, which is also a sham. It’s the dew point. Dew Point: The Unsung Hero of Misery Metrics The lower it is — ideally in the 50s to 60s — the less sticky it will feel. The higher it is (70s) the closer it will be to my personal hell. (The relative humidity, a sometimes popular metric, measures the dew point against the temperature, making it particularly unhelpful on very, very hot days, when the temperature may be much higher than a relatively low, but still uncomfortable, dew point.) In an effort to better explain why the dew point is the superior way to tell the weather and what it exactly means, I spoke with John Homenuk on a recent rainy, uncomfortably sweaty afternoon. Homenuk, who studied meteorology at Kean University, is a dew point enthusiast and the reason I found out about dew point forecasts in the first place. He’s the force behind the New York Metro Weather Twitter account. NY Metro Weather: Where 58,000+ People Beg for a Weather Guru's Approval New York Metro Weather has a 58,000-plus following that looks to it to answer a really simple question: Is the weather in New York City today going to be good or bad? Homenuk gives his followers a vibe rating out of 10 (sunny, humidity-free days score the highest) and sprinkles in a brief explanation of why it will or won’t be a pleasant day in New York. As Homenuk confirmed to me, not all 72°F days are created equal — and the dew point might be the best explanation why. The Dew Point Drama Unraveled Interviewer: It’s a pleasure to speak with you. In your words, the vibes in New York are awful today. Homenuk: Yeah. We kind of need it though. We’ve been in such a bad drought. Sometimes I have to try really hard to keep what we need in terms of weather away from what the actual vibe is — today is definitely two out of five. Interviewer: I think what makes it stink is that it’s very sticky outside. It feels like I’m in a low-temperature sauna. Homenuk: Right! Like a cooler rainy day is pretty nice. Interviewer: Yeah, and I wanted to ask you about what makes it feel cooler. Homenuk: I’m recently — in large part because of your Twitter feed — a dew point convert. The dew point is high today and it feels disgusting. And I know that the weather feels better when the dew point is lower. Interviewer: But I don’t get why, or what it is. What is the dew point, and why does it feel so good when it’s low? Homenuk: Well, first of all, dew point is just a great measure of how it’s going to feel outside. I think temperature is just as important with humidity, but relative humidity, like the relative humidity that’s on our weather apps, is just a total crock. Because it’s not — it’s literally relative to the temperature, so it’s not helpful. Interviewer: Okay, say more. Homenuk: Relative humidity doesn’t help me fully understand what it’s going to feel like outside. Whereas the dew point, in a very basic sense: It’s the amount of moisture in the atmosphere. ... The Dew Point Dictionary: Translating Misery into Meteorology So, there you have it, folks! Forget the thermometers, toss away the humidity readings, and embrace the dew point as the MVP of weather feels. When it's down in the 50s or 60s, you'll feel as if you're dancing with a weather angel, frolicking in the cooling breeze. But if that dew point creeps into the 70s, well, you might want to grab your snorkel and swim trunks, 'cause it's gonna be a steamy mess out there. Just remember, not all 72°F days are created equal. The dew point is the sneaky puppet master, controlling whether you're sashaying down the street with a popsicle or wilting like a forgotten salad. So next time you're about to step outside, skip the rain dance, consult the dew point, and embrace the sweet embrace of accurate weather misery metrics. And don't forget to give a little nod to the dew point enthusiasts like John Homenuk, who are out there making sure we all know what level of misery we're signing up for when we venture into the great outdoors. Cue the weather-themed confetti and a chorus of grumbling umbrellas! 🌦️🌡️🌤️#DewPointDrama: A Humidity Odyssey Editor’s note: Summer 2023 has been one of the hottest on record — although one of the coolest we’ll ever see again — and we could all use a little help navigating the heat. Whereas the dew point, in a very basic sense: It’s the amount of moisture in the atmosphere. ... Avväpning
A har läskiga ögon. Som om jag ser rakt mot nån mörk varelse som kan äta upp och och spotta ut mina ben. Hjeeeeeelp! Phew.
"Kean jeag setta bredvid deaj Kearin? :) " FUck, igen.

Could you talk about how you developed your art style?
Honestly,,,I wanted my art style to look like a “disney” art style back when I started. Specifically the TLK style back in middle school all the way to freshman.
And then I started to take inspo off of Glen Keane’s art style around freshman-senior year in high school.
Though in my senior year I also started to get inspo off of Don Bluth’s work and I also was considering to make my artstyle a little more simplistic. I was a bit all over the place.
And then freshman college year, my main inspo was just Don Bluth’s work. And I slowly wanted my art to look like if it were from the muppets. And then I guess around 2020 I was able to achieve that simplistic-shaped art style that I wanted. Also also many of ny mutuals’ work inspired me a lot even to this day u_u
And then during the beginning of my college sophomore year I started to watch again cartoon saloon films and just really loved many of the films’ art style. And I guess with a little bit of Genny Tartakovsky art style influenced mixed in there or better yet that late 90s/2000s tv cartoon style
And now a college sophomore about to be junior this is were my style is at. I actually feel a little stuck atm with my work so I can’t rlly say I’m happy where my art style is at. I feel like I can push it a little further on how I want it.

In light of the health emergency impacting all of us, we thought we’d dust off this interview with Pearl River author Mary Beth Keane. Keane discussed her book FEVER about Mary Mallon, better-known as Typhoid Mary. Mallon’s story brings up the pertinent question of how we strike a balance between personal civil liberties and public health.
We hope you enjoy this 30-minute podcast from 2013.
About the book: Mary Beth Keane, named one of the 5 Under 35 by the National Book Foundation, has written a spectacularly bold and intriguing novel about the woman known as "Typhoid Mary," the first person in America identified as a healthy carrier of Typhoid Fever.
On the eve of the twentieth century, Mary Mallon emigrated from Ireland at age fifteen to make her way in New York City. Brave, headstrong, and dreaming of being a cook, she fought to climb up from the lowest rung of the domestic-service ladder. Canny and enterprising, she worked her way to the kitchen, and discovered in herself the true talent of a chef. Sought after by New York aristocracy, and with an independence rare for a woman of the time, she seemed to have achieved the life she'd aimed for when she arrived in Castle Garden. Then one determined medical engineer noticed that she left a trail of disease wherever she cooked, and identified her as an asymptomatic carrier of Typhoid Fever. With this seemingly preposterous theory, he made Mallon a hunted woman.
The Department of Health sent Mallon to North Brother Island, where she was kept in isolation from 1907 to 1910, then released under the condition that she never work as a cook again. Yet for Mary, proud of her former status and passionate about cooking, the alternatives were abhorrent. She defied the edict.
Bringing early-twentieth-century New York alive, the neighborhoods, the bars, the park carved out of upper Manhattan, the boat traffic, the mansions and sweatshops and emerging skyscrapers, Fever is an ambitious retelling of a forgotten life. In the imagination of Mary Beth Keane, Mary Mallon becomes a fiercely compelling, dramatic, vexing, sympathetic, uncompromising, and unforgettable heroine.
