m i z h o thoughts (inspired by @west-tokyo-incidents's kdu headcanons tag that im currently stalking)

Mizho actually doesnt need her eyepatch - she began wearing it after she regained her past-life memories and wanted to keep that handicap since that’s what she was used to in her past life - also it helps train & become stronger like she used to be. Also she saw the heart eyepatch & was like that’s fkn cute #aesthetic. I imagine a moment (years into knowing the evil doji) where she’s focusing hard on something & flips her eyepatch up for a moment to concentrate and Fussa & Rage are like “??!”

I will say that there’s a line in chapt 3 of Feast of Fools that’s making me Rethink this and i’m liking the idea of her losing her eye in a similar way to however Michel Dubois did

MIZHO isn't her birth name; it's her online alias for her goth subculture obsessions. When she regained her past-life war memories her goth content got way better (more lifelike skull sculptures; gore & blood art that suspiciously looks real?) and she’s a legend in the underground scene

When Rune uploads info about the doji masters to the dark web netizens were like ‘ofc MIZHO is involved in this weird shit’

WWII 3-year bad doji bonding arc - like all the other doji & their masters she cares for Hana. Mizho will deny that she likes her and keep threatening to stab Hana whenever she comes near. The little girl calls her Nii-chan and asks her to brush & do her hair and she only trusts Mizho’s judgement on the cute clothes she finds during that era. Hana idolizes Mizho and keeps saying she wants to be just like her when she grows up. Eater is terrified of that possibility.

She is bored to death of Vice & Rune’s schemes and this posturing around the philosophy of evil & defeating Dunstan. She’s like ‘yeah. we’re evil. duh. everyone shut up.” (given that in her few scenes during those chapters all she says is ‘Gimme a break’ and ‘I hate chitchat’) i lowkey think this is why Takei never gave her a moment - near endgame KDU all the fights included long ramblings about good / evil blurring and Mizho/Paresse are just like 'whatevs." kinda hard to fit their arc in near the end of the story where Takei was rly trying to wrap up his themes about good & evil (i'm bitter)

She refuses to call Rune ‘Officer’ or any of the other doji & their masters by their military titles that they gain/steal/whatever during WWII. She’s like ‘I gained the rank of Lieutenant all by myself in the last War, yall cheated by fighting with your doji’

Mizho & Paresse share a biting fixation, she needs to chew on a pocky stick at all times and she lets Paresse chew on their victims

Highkey the only character I ship Mizho with is Paresse. Love the idea of two freaks who only tolerate each other <3 After the end of the series there’s a slight power struggle as Mizho adjusts to not being his master & hanging out with him 24/7 and he’s not as down for her weird whims as he figures out what he actually likes as a human. Because they’ve known each other for so long though and were especially isolated with only each other bc of their sloth/apathy, they have a bit of codependency / separation anxiety issue as they try to build their own identities in a normal world. This goes one of two ways: eventually, they’re like ‘wait. we really are….the only ones….. that match each other’s freak” (this is my idea in this dumb sexting fic i’m writing) OR Rage helps Paresse get over her (could start out as Rage being like ‘let me teach you how not to be a fucking creep now that you’re human’ and then Rage realizes ‘wait, i actually….do like this weird shit you’re into’) and M & P develop a close siblinglike relationship after a few rocky months. Either way, WTI’s first Japan tour is a freaking mess and Fussa is like 🧍 watching these emotionally discombobulated kids tear each other apart.

Copying your own words, OH BOY

Fussa first: God, I need to finish "Shift in Tone" because as I filled out Fussa and Paresse's charts I remembered where I was going with the story. Fussa is great. What do you do when you are helping to destroy the world and suddenly have to 1) keep going to your shitty job and 2) have a fourteen year old who used to be your robot/roommate/paycheck of revenge? Probably has daddy issues but we're not going to unpack that. Doesn't make me sad as much as I want a play-by-play on what is going through his head because epilogue left Fussa and Rage washed up on the beach before Mizho showed up as the one evil douji user whom I imagine kept her wits about her.

I know Paresse is your man, so this is specifically how I imagine him in SiT. Paresse does make me sad, and post-epilogue is one of recovery in my mind. I interpreted the sin of sloth to be one of apathetic detachment towards oneself and others, so Paresse suddenly having Human Emotions (TM) and experiencing Grief (TM) for things never returning to the way they were hits a chord to me. Suddenly needing to engage with the rest of the world while speedrunning Self-care (TM) and the confusion of oh shit the bigger goal is gone. I didn't act and there were consequences I am only now feeling without Mizho catching what is going on is the snow globe I am shaking him in for a bit before Mizho hauls ass on giving the "Being a human kind of blows, but at least there's penicillin now and the steady betterment of the world fucks a bit." speech amongst other words of encouragement.

I'm so sorry I am obsessed about Dndads and you watch it consume me instead of doing KDU stuff. Keeping the rant short, Walter the Immoral is a side character who used to be a famous swordsmith until the tip of one he rushed to make broke off and killed the great hero wielding it, so he was cursed to be a frog monster essentially and abandoned by his family. In the course of the canonical story, he: adopted an eight year old, build a motorcycle from ye olde medieval material to find his eight year after thinking he had been kidnapped, fended off hired mercenaries trying to kidnap the main characters' five children for weeks on end by himself, lost his legs (and shrugged it off because he built himself a wheelchair from scratch and could still fight), watched his eight year old sacrifice himself (unnecessarily!! genuinely, unnecessarily), and then piloted a mecha in the final fight before ducking out of the s1 narrative worse than he started somehow. I have normal feelings about him (/lying).

If I dwell on how the cast treated his son (Paeden) and him too much, I show my ass on the internet because genuinely what the fuck was that. Thank god Walter is somehow well-adjusted and didn't murder them all in the end. Hell of a podcast (/derogatory).

What’s poppin’, Ultimo friends?!!!!!!!! I got this volume on the day it came out last year, but life happened and I havent gotten the chance to read it until now. Aaaannd I’ve been inactive on tumblr for pretty much a whole year, and I come back and I see the fandom looks to be dead T-T. So I dont even know if anybody will even read this. But!! I wanna finish this little series I had where I read every volume and liveblog it lol. So LESSS GOOO

I actually have not read any translations of the final chapters, so I’m going into this completely blind. Tbh I barely remembered what happened last volume (and this summary doesn’t really help lol)

It’s been a wild ride. A wild, and often confusing ride. But I had tons of fun reading, loving, and obsessing over this manga all these years. I already made an emotional post about how much KDU means to me, so I’ll just leave this at that. I hope this isn’t the last time we hear about this manga (anime in 2040 anyone? I predict it now),and I def hope the fandom continues to live on~

HEHEH This is from a fun one. Rage/Paresse... but it's got an interesting premise. Rage ends up with Robot Chronic Pain and Paresse convinces Ultimo to take them forward in time, where Dunstan can't interfere, to the South Island so they're like. Living in a survival situation.

3. How did you choose their name?

Its actually the name of a character from The Belgariad! It was going to be my name if I had been born a boy, and it's actually my middle name now because of that! (This applies to all iterations of Garion!)

10. If they have an LI, how much of their character is tailored to be compatible to that person? 

Fusaji is more tailored to him, but I will say, Garion is heavily influenced by Fusataro in general. Sunglasses, cocky smirk, disillusioned and depressed. I actually tailored him more towards being a LI for Paresse... And then Fusataro kicked me in the teeth for the position of favorite character and so Fusaji was born.

13. How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all? 

SEE... This one I don't quite get. Garion, as he is in the Facility, extends far before and far after the canon events of KDU. But also concurrently at the same time. That said, I cannot tell you how he will inevitably die, because he will, but for the most part, Garion spans across multiple AUs so there's really no good answer to this. Unless I misunderstood it LMAO

Food is like a big deal to Paresse because of, like. The whole Starving All The Time thing in the Alps so if you give him food he's just like. ??? Food??? You acquired food for me??? Why??? But also this becomes his own Big Deal so if he makes someone food it's a Thing.

I feel like Paresse writes a lot of music but it's not stuff the WTI sings because he writes like really surrealistic lyrics that just boil down into how badly he wants to fuck, love, or die.
