So you think you're God? You've never killed someone before...It's not easy to kill. Until you get used to it.
#a killer paradox#son sukku#choi wooshik#kdrama#kdramaedit#korean drama#kdramadaily#kdramanetwork#kdrama netflix#netflixedit#netflix#kdramagifs#asiandramanet#asiandramasource#kdramasource#spoilers in the tags#the 1st half of this show was amazing but the 2nd not so much imo#i feel it lost focus once the ex-cop got introduced and Lee Tang became a secondary character instead of the main protagonist#plus it stopped focusing on the cat and mouse chase between Lee Tang and Jang Nan-gam - which is the best part of the show#the ending teases a possible sequel so I hope if that does happen they focus on their relationship and their dynamic

They both have such cute names!
당 = Tang = Nickname for Sugar and used at the end of words to cute-ify them.
난감 = Nan Gam = Embarrassed. Impossible. Awkward. Because you're at a loss, in a sticky situation, or facing a conundrum, a paradox. His full name Jang Nan Gam means Toy, and can sometimes be slang for 'Are you playing with me?".
It's no wonder Detective Jang said he felt a kinship with Lee Tang because of their awkward names and that he became a cop so people would take him seriously.
These two are made for each other.
#perhaps more interesting is that the show is named after the two of them#Tang is the murderer (read: 'Killer') and Nan Gam is the embarrassing conundrum (read: 'Paradox')#it's like the show is begging me to ship them#everyone knows shows titled after their main characters are romances like kinnporsche or nightdream or big dragon 😅#a killer paradox#kdrama#linguistics

Poor Do Han, always trapped by his family and in the closet and trying so, so hard and he loves his brother so much but he's trapped.
A Jeong lets him breathe because she's the only person who knows the real him and so he will leave everything behind if it means that freedom, if it means the chance to be himself, to be free...
But Ji Han knows none of that. He only knows that his brother, the one person he trusts and loves, keeps pushing him away and is now threatening to not be his brother any more and he doesn't understand.
These brothers need to learn how to communicate with each other and it's so, so painful because they do love each other and care about each other but they're also so wrapped up in their own lives that they way they love ends up hurting each other.
#wedding impossible#kdrama#again only watching this for do han#i wish he was the main character#he's got the most depth

You once asked me what I was thinking while I was riding the swing that day. I told you I do not remember. But the truth is I clearly remember everything. That day... I had the feeling the man from my dreams would approach me. Thus, everything in front of me sparkled in green and pink.

ah yes. the established tradition of putting a scathing portrayal of contemporary society in the first episode, highlighting how it's impossible for some people to live a life, let alone a good one, because the system is set against them
#death's game#lyde vs kdramas#i love a main character that gets radicalised by this like in vigilante#but i understand this is a different story

Lovely Runner had the perfect run. The whole premise of it being a fantasy romcom was perfectly written, perfectly executed with a beautiful cast.
Sunjae and Sol were fated to be each other's soulmate. Their love blooms from their soul. So deep the bond that fates intervened when evils of society cut their time short. And in all of this the grandma was their fairy godmother.
The writers really need to be applauded because this was the sweetest and in the same time such a simple story. Timeloop dramas get loopy because logic but there's nothing stopping this magic. It was so well done truly.
Every scene you will think you can predict the direction will surprise you. Sometimes it's just belly aching laughter, Sometimes pure angst, Sometimes happiness that is a smile from ear to ear.
Thank you to the actors too. Actors who really bring in a personality beyond the writing and make the works more valuable have my whole heart.
#lovely runner#kdrama#now this is a perfect drama#kim hye yoon#im sol#hye yoon has always been a delight to watch#her versatility better gets treated well and I really wish to see this girl in more amazing dramas#byun woo seok#ryu sun jae#his first main lead you say#and look how the tall giant slayed it with his adorableness#may he gets to do more such delightful works#both of them are such sunshine people#lee seung hyub#baek in hyuk#besstest friend ever#he also should be getting more screentime#dude's been so much fun#song geon hee#kim tae sung#the mvp#fr he stopped the whole vicious time loop poor soljae were stuck in#and also the cutest second lead ever#gosh there's so many characters actually I want to write about#separate post I guess after I have a proper binge of all episodes again#oh also great music

castaway diva / ep9.
the more i think about this scene of kiho breaking down after the confrontation, the more it breaks me
there had to be some part of him that hoped, however miniscule that hope was, that his father might have changed, even if only a little, throughout those years. that he couldn't possibly have stayed the same violent and bitter man even after all that time, and maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't have to resort to extreme means to keep him away from his family.
but it's crushed the moment he enters the house and the first thing his father does is suspect him, and when his suspicions are confirmed, immediately launches into a violent fit. all the while kiho coils in on himself as he takes the beating— and for those few moments all i could think about was the young kiho, helpless and weak with no one to protect him from the man called his 'father'. a figure who's supposed to protect him and care for him.
castaway diva isn't perfect by any means, but some scenes, for example this one, are definitely going to linger with me for a while.
what makes it even more heartbreaking is that it is truth in television for most, if not all, cases of abuse. the perpetrators continue with the same mindset, and rarely, if ever, change or show remorse. meanwhile, the victims/survivors are left to deal with the damage for the rest of their lives. even when they reach a better position in life and gain a support system, it continues to haunt them in the present. and it's evident in kiho, as his first instinct upon realising that the father has almost found them, is to take it upon himself to face him, all alone, even though the thought must terrify him. because that's what he learnt to do ever since he was young.
after everything— threats and warnings done, kiho walks to his car in a daze and that's when the futility of it all hits him in full force. watching him try to hold back tears, the bitter smile, as he fails and his body completely gives in to loud sobs was just... nothing could have prepared me for it, even if it was there in the preview. it's such a raw and heavy scene, and the background score only adds to it, along with, of course, the acting.
#castaway diva#chae jong hyeop#i've been ugly crying over this scene since saturday#just needed time to put my thoughts into words but i still don't think i did a good job with it#and when i say it's going to linger with me for a while; i mean at least for the next six months .#it's also been a while since i watched a kdrama good enough to get me thinking AND rambling this much#kiho is such a strong yet vulnerable character; who hides layers and LAYERS of depth under that stoic facade of his#and jong hyeop brings out the nuances of his character in the more muted and subtle moments so well#ETA after seeing user starsbelong's comment: really really wish show had expanded on kiho's pov#we got so little of it even though he is one of the main leads ; and that's one of the aspects where show lost me#i love the drama a whole lot but just some gripes#yeah..

Why do so many Korean series and webtoons share almost the same trope in regards of characters not born in the family? It's like if someone is not biologically someone's child, they're not truly part of the family, and for some reason, they'll end up being evil and a threat. Hope that makes sense.
It has happened to me a couple of times that I start watching or reading something from SK. They often pull out the fact that someone is adopted to say they're sly and deserving of alienation. Why did they adopt them in the first place? It's not like the parent didn't think the kid would be a mischievous creature. It's more like they were desperately looking forward to them turning out like that.
Every time I come across with this kind of depiction, I just sit there and roll my eyes. It's absurd how hard the scriptwriter tries to make the audience believe that adopted children, stepchildren and even half-siblings come from hell itself.
#a perfect example of this is#perfect marriage revenge#I loved the stepsister even more than the female main character#she had a real personality#even though she was a bit of a bitch#the whole kdrama was honestly cliché#but that's not the point#I'm really curious about this#korean series#kdramas#webtoon

Now that the drama has ended I need to make an appreciation post about ha eungyeol. This boy is SO sweet. He doesn't even think before taking other people's burdens on as his own. The stress nearly kills him half the time but does he relent in how much he cares? Not at all, not until the message of the show finally comes crashing down, that you need to live your own life. The show does take a roundabout way of getting there, with plenty of trauma sprinkled in between, but it does get there.
He's also a complete mess. You can tell the life he's lived in order to keep his family safe ever since he was a child, in that he doesn't give a shit before doing something absolutely insane in order to fix things. Throw all social decorum out the window in order to get close to yichan and fulfill his dreams? Absolutely. Try to woo an ahjumma-he-doesn't-know-is-eunyu in order to salvage his parents relationship? Absolutely. Of course the stakes are high but he chooses the most insane ways to help. Like I would at least hesitate before jumping off a cliff.
Speaking of the cliff scene- that might be my favorite scene of the show. You feel his desperation. You feel how scared he is. And you see that he's still just a kid. The one thing this show did amazingly is show that despite his mature facade, despite the multitudes of burdens he takes on, despite how reliable he is, he's just a kid. He breaks down, he misses his parents, he misses the protection and guidance they offered. Eungyeol crying as he held on to yichan at the beach broke me. It was such a stark reminder that oh this boy is 18 and lost and has to carry all this by himself. How many other dramas show vulnerability like this? Or depict teenage characters as teenagers, who do stupid, insane things, and who at the end of the day are still figuring out life as they go, no matter how mature they may seem. It makes eungyeol seem human, and not just the typical teenage character in dramas. And it's not just eungyeol that's shown this way, all of the teenage cast feel like high schoolers - a bit immature and lost, but still trying their best
So I'm glad he gets to enjoy moments of youth he didn't exactly get in his own life. I'm glad he has all those memories with the band. I'm glad he meets eunyu who brings out the kid in him, who breaks through the mature side of him, till they're bickering and laughing and finally looking like the kids they are.
With where the show ended, I really hope he finally gets a sparkling youth of his own, in his life.
#twinkling watermelon#ryeoun#choi hyun wook#kdrama#ha eungyeol#as you can see I'm very passionate about this kid#he's just such a sweet kid#all of the main characters are tbu#rambles

Someone told "Hae-jo is selfish" and she can't understand him. I'm agree, he's selfish. but more than anything, I think he wants to make up for Jae-mi and himself. they both hurt each other. although I still don't know the reason of their breakup but I'm sure they both had mistakes. anyway I think Jae-mi because of her angry character (that Lee Yoo-mi protects it very well) doesn't give Hae-jo a chance for explaining his intentions. actually I think Jae-mi's relationship with Eo-heung isn't true. not because of Hae-jo, really because of Jae-mi. she's a bit selfish too if she did that marriage without telling truth. but I can understand both Hae-jo and Jae-mi. and I think our two main characters, both, starts to understanding and considering emotions of people around themselves.
#mr plankton#kdrama#woo do hwan#lee yoo mi#hae jo#jae mi#them#love them#their chemistry is getting better and better#and I love the cruel honesty of this series#that make us even hate or angry with Hae-jo or Jae-mi as main characters
