Do you ever just see posts or have discussions leaving you go "really?"? I just had a discussion where people think that equating that Knuckleduster existing as a quirkless vigilante, Stain having his speed without a speed quirk, and Mirio continue fighting means that Midoriya is at fault for not being better prepared for UA pre-AM, despite the public and Pro Heroes believing KD has an enhancement quirk before his Eraserhead encounter, and all of them having at least some hero training. Meanwhile, Midoriya has to deal with Bakugou threatening him just for taking notes for being a hero, a mother who doesn't really support his dreams or doesn't make it clear that she does, and whatever sort of discrimination occurs for towards the quirkless
The "Midoriya is actually lazy/entitled" argument has been around for years and I advise you not to worry about it. Quoth Team Four Star "Don't weep for the stupid; you'll be crying all day."
Hell I still see people arguing that the Sports Festival has permanently ruined Yaoyorozu's career, conveniently ignoring that Amajiki is in the Big Three despite washing out of all three Sports Festival he's been in from the nerves.
And then there's the frustratingly present idea that Aizawa is more accepting of a Quirkless Hero than All Might, or a better teacher, or smarter, etc.
Hell, we're currently being inundated with people claiming the ending is about unquestionably supporting corrupt organizations.
You just gotta accept that there are people who don't engage with the text and are willing it to make it your problem

AU where all the villains are pro heroes and all the pro heroes and hero students are villains. Assume the HPSC is as corrupt as it is in canon.
1- let's just uh. Hit everyone with the "forced villains cousins" au beam. Bear with me. AfO is the top hero and also the hpsc president. He took over to spit on Yoichi's grave. The right to free quirk usage is tied to it being his quirk now, so retiring or getting stripped of license results in surrendering your quirk.
2- this is relevant because when Pro Hero Chimera's son doesn't want to be a hero, Chimera tells him to give up his quirk to someone who will, and Tamaki runs away with his younger cousin and best friend. Mirio, Tamaki, and Ojiro become villains early.
3- Uraraka becomes one for needing money, working for the Iida crime family. Bakugou is in the MLA villain equivalent, as were the Todorokis (some of the kids left. Shoto is just doing his own thing.) Momo was a trafficking victim who escaped, but never made it home. She broke out Eri at least, and paid for her to get smuggled out of the country by KD.
4- the holders of OfA have been villains since the second user. Izuku wanted to be a hero, hoping to prove he deserved to be given a quirk at he could be one, until he realized some of the corruption underneath. He doesn't see himself as a villain, more a vigilante, but Toshi can only smile and shake his head at that, since they don't get to decide the definition of villainy and they certainly fit the bill
5- Nomu are made by the doctor in order to keep AfO in power- he's the only hero who can take one on alone, and no one knows where they're coming from, so at least he's better then a nomu apocalypse... Probably...

Supercorptober prompt #8 Vigilante
Chapter 2: how to become an unruly vigilante
"Is there anyone else in the queue to kidnap me from you?" - Kara asked, watching her with her one good eye, the other closed completely, a dull pain throbbing under her eyelid. She felt blood dripping out of her nostrils and sniffed them in just to spit the gore out on the clean grey floor.
"I hope there isn't." - the woman laughed, watching her with the same quizzical expression she had back at the warehouse. It wasn't clear if she liked Kara; her eyes were dark and unreadable, and their expression did not match her wide, toothy smile. - "I like you, KD. You are a feisty one."
"I am flattered, I guess." - Kara hummed. She felt the wire being cut from her wrists and rubbed them happily. Her fingertips tingled as blood flow was renewed, and she squeezed them open and closed a few times, hoping there wasn't any lingering damage. - "But I don't understand why I am so important that I have two gangs fighting for me?"

Ask meme
Hopefully Koichi from vigilantes counts in the BNHA fandom?
He does for me! (I like BNHA: Illegals more than the main series!)
meme; Here
Why I like them: I like that Koich's a relaxed guy that just wants to be kind and help people. I also really like that he’s NOT a power player. In the BNHA world, he’s just an average guy who wants to help people. Why I don’t: He’s too passive despite being the protagonist. I could take him out of the story and 60% of the story would be the same. I talked more about that here and here. Basically, I hated that Koichi’s more of a side character than a protagonist. Favorite episode (scene if movie): I like when he saves Fatgum’s food as I find that scene cute and when he uses his powers to fly after the Cat-bus while saving Makoto. It was a nice moment of growth and showed him taking his own step into herohood. Favorite season/movie: I like him best when Knuckle Duster is around as here Koichi is realistically growing and learning. Favorite line: “Even if just for a second, I wanna fly!” Favorite outfit: His hero outfit, of course! OTP: Makoto and Koichi (I’ll talk more about that in the unpopular pairing) Brotp: Koichi and Knuckle Duster! Despite his ways being extreme, I like that KD pushes Koichi out of his box and helps him to become stronger while Koichi helps him to soften up. Head Canon: Got none really. Unpopular opinion: Okay, I will state here and now that Makoto like Koichi romantically came out of nowhere and was only there to add drama to Pop*Step’s arc. However, I like the two together and when I thought about it, I believe they’d make a nice couple. They do even each other out and provide exactly what the other needs while respecting and supporting one another. (Plus, I think there’s fun to be had in the idea that Makoto’s dating a vigilante despite her brother being a cop.) I know everyone like Koichi and Pop and that pairing is—fine. I don’t hate it and there’s a cute moment or two, but meh. A wish: It’s unlikely, but if there’s an anime adaption I hope they tie Koichi into the plot more and have him doing more to justify his status as the protagonist. Also, some genuine MakotoxKoichi moments to justify that subplot later. An oh-god-please-don't-ever-happen: Series over, so nothing’s going to happen I guess. 5 words to best describe them: Kind, nice, genuine, earnest, relaxed My nickname for them: Sad bunny

So, as you may have guessed from the random snippets, I have a new WIP lol. So, while I'm still fixating on it, have a worldbuilding ramble :D
So the idea originally came about because I was worldbuilding for Knighttime Dreams, and I came up with a new character that I immediately fell in love with. Problem was, there was basically no room for him in KD, which made me real sad. And then I thought, what if I just give him his own story?
And now here we are lol
Unnamed Superhero WIP has 2 story lines. The first is centered around Isabelle, a college student and wannabe hero, and Stella and Julian, twins who own the local cafe and seem to be hiding secrets. The second follows Izzy's hero alter-ego, Despereaux, and his encounters with the necromancer Revenant.
So, superheroes are a thing, how the fuck does society function? Greeeeat question. Villains gonna villain cause that's basically a requirement of the genre (tho they will get more solid motivations as I flesh them out. at least one (not Revenant) wants to create a sorta zombie army for.... reasons?). Vigilantes are frowned upon, if not straight up illegal (depending on where you are). So if you wanna be a hero, there's basically 2 above-board ways to do it. 1. recruitment 2. sorta the equivalent of going to college for it
What's the difference?
Recruitment is only for the best of the best, those with powers so strong they're hard to hide or tone down. It can also be a little iffy, because it does require parental consent, but a solid 98% of the time that's a non-issue. Hero worship hella is a thing. Anyways, recruitment can happen at any age, and kids who are recruited end up in a sort of boarding school for hero training. After graduating (ages 15-18 depending on powers/how quick they pick up training/how well they do in sidekick roles), they'll get chosen for a team or department. More on that later :)
The college equivalent is for those who weren't good enough to get recruited, or those few who are part of the 2% who didn't get permission for hero work. People who go this route often end up in support roles or lesser known teams.
Now what the fuck am I talking about with teams and departments?
Heroes are split up into two broad categories: Combat and Support. Combat heroes are the ones who go out and fight villains directly, with all the danger (and glory) that comes along with that. They're split up into different teams, which is currently an arbitrary decision that I'll rationalize later :P
Support heroes are the ones doing more behind-the-scenes stuff, like reconnaissance, civilian evacuations, and medics. Some hero teams have support heroes in them, while others will just hire a support as needed. Supports-for-hire are separated into different departments, some examples being recon, evac, backup, or medics.
There is a severe distinction between a hero's civilian identity and their hero identity. When doing hero work, they'll often be wearing some sort of mask and a vocoder to disguise their voice at minimum.
When they graduate, heroes are given a tattoo on their right hand to mark what team or department they work for. But to keep up the barrier between civilian and hero identity, heroes will wear a glove to cover the tattoo.
But wait, doesn't that defeat the point of trying separate civilian/hero identities if everybody knows they're a hero? Not exactly. There's a difference between "Yeah I'm a hero" *no indication of team or department* vs. "Yeah I'm a hero in this department/on this 5 person team/etc". Plus, the point of the tattoos is so that, if an emergency happens when they're off duty, a hero can show the tattoo to whoever is helping evac/keep civilians out of the area, and they'll get clearance to go in and help.
But despite the fame and glory, there's a dark side to the industry, hiding behind locked doors where the cameras can't see.
Best case scenario for a hero: you retire at a nice age, and get to live the rest of your life in luxury and mild fame.
Second best case scenario: you burn out early and life the rest of your life in middling wealth and fame.
Most common scenario, especially for recruited kids: the system chews you up and spits you out, and you're lucky if you retire with less than 4 major injuries. If you even make it to retirement.
~
And a couple of rapid-fire heroes, villains, and in-betweens
Despereaux - hero-in-training, mouse shapeshifter. Name may change later, but for now, I am not clever lol
Revenant - vigilante, necromancer
Chameleon - former hero, human shapeshifter
Jellyfish - former hero, steals knowledge
Apollo - semi-retired hero, healer. Name also may change later.
Unnamed right now but currently the only villain with a "full" story arc. Can control plants, and is the one trying to make a zombie army (and pissing off Revenant in the process (Revenant is very possessive of corpses))

May I ask your thoughts on the newest Vigilantes chapter? Many many thought on it myself, but the loudest thought in my mind was: these are some great pics/shots of Knuckleduster
It has taken 116 chapters and over 5 years but Koichi Haimawari has finally chosen violence.

We end where we began: Gotham alley with a one-eyed noraneko and KD standing tall. But while it began with him turning his back on his old life toward a new do-or-die solitary vigilante mission, it ends with him embracing his new life head-on...

May Currently Watching/ Recently Finished
Not Me- Completed. OffGun winning everytime! Loved that this drama featured a completely new character setting of vigilantes for good. Acting? Their asses off across the board. I could also see that Off has improved. Chemistry? Most definitely! OffGun kisses are always done really well but it was also about how the characters were able to slowly grow closer and help each other grow. Plot twists? Yup! And some really knocked me on my ass. A really good drama that may have a place in my favorites from this year.
Business Proposal- Completed. Lots of fun and laughs but the last few moments felt a bit flat to me. Overall, had a great time watching this one.
Fox's Summer 1 &2-Currently Watching. I finished the first part with ease and moved to the second. On episode 8 of the second season, but I'm getting really annoyed with the Cheng Ze's adoptive mother and Yan Shu's mother. Both are stubborn and never listen to the truth people tell them if it doesn't fit the "truth" they want to create into reality. Also, not interested in Jin Yun and Jun Yao getting together.
Cutie Pie- Currently Watching. Finished episode 10. Zee is hot and NuNew is cute both as themselves and as their respective characters Lian and Kuea. I've really enjoyed their interactions and moments throughout the show, even though it happened pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I don't really like any of the other characters. Yi and Khondiao are kinda weird. At first Yi was intimidating and cold, and it gave me red flags how scard Khondiao seemed. Then when Yi tried getting to know more about Khondiao, it was odd that he had no idea what KD's interests were and it was awkward watching them do the whole skate park scene. The next thing they suddenly kissed, and now all is forgiven and they're in love and lust? Nah doesn't work for me. Also, the last pairing Syn and Nuea, bore me. Nuea was all about Kuea and just switched up to Syn and I'm not really buying that either. This show has a problem with rushing through or completely ommiting the emotional moments that would make the cute/sexy moments make sense. Just have to watch the last two episodes. Hopefully it'll be mostly LianKuea, cause I'm tired.
Secret Crush On You- Completed. My favorite show of 2022 so far. Hilarious. Outrageous. Cute. Sexy, and more. I have had the most fun and feels watching the episodes each week and have watched some more than once. The group of Som Daisy Jao and Toh is just so precious. When one cries, they all cry. Neua's crew is cool too. Also, the second and third couples were actually cute and fun to watch. I didn't feel the urge to skip every moment spent away from the main couple. A rarity for me. I've seen the actor Seng that plays Toh during a vlog and I have to give him props for embodying such an awkward and cutesy character.
Star In My Mind- Currently Watching. Finished episode 6 yesterday. DaoNuea and KlabKluen and frustrating me. Communication skills are terrible and they both keep letting other people pull them in different directions. There are 2 episodes left, I hope they can get to a place of understanding. I was liking this show up to episode 4. Now I'm kinda bored and mostly annoyed. I'll probably wait for both episodes to air so I can finish this show in one sitting and be done with it. Depending on the ending I may or may not check out Sky In Your Heart.

If I remeber right, in the old extra chapter of Vigilantes(at least in the fanscan version) Eraserhead thinks Endeavor and Knuckleduster are very similar in their methods. And it boils down to this- they ain't All Might so they gonna bust some pipes and break bones and send man, woman and child to the hospital but they'll Get The Job Done and any legal charges arising from it they'll take blame for later(if caught in KD's case). I won't spoil the latest Vigs chapter for but that sentiments it.
I wouldn't think about it this way
Tumblr media
In a situation where All Might is absent, the course of events Endeavor is proposing is the best. The longer you wait, the more destruction happens. If you fight, there will be victims. If you wait, there will be victims. It's choosing between saving your reputation but saving potentially more people or acting and tarnishing it but not giving the villain time to act
I think most pro heroes wouldn't be able to make a choice in favour of acting immediately. They would wait for a better situation or All Might or a hero with a suitable quirk. We saw it with the Sludge villain accident. Pro Heroes ultimately just watched the kid suffering because they couldn't save him without damage and risk. And Burnin here is proposing the same, to wait for the chaos to settle down somehow to avoid casualties
In such instances choosing between damage and even more damage is how it usually goes. There are plenty of situations where you simply can't make a perfect appearance and resolve all the trouble without collateral damage. Except BNHA has All Might
All Might is an outliner, he is the perfect hero but thinking all heroes must live up to this unreasonable expectation is stupid. Saving everyone is possible only with All Might's superpower, otherwise, we are talking about minimizing the damage. Because that's a realistic approach
What Endeavor really saying here is "we act now because in this way the minimum amount of damage will be made. It will tarnish my reputation but save more people so I choose to act". That's really not about busting pipes and breaking bones. He constantly neglects his reputation to save the maximum amount of people even if it's not pretty and not perfect because he just can't do it perfectly. Being a hero is being a performer too and Endeavor sucks at that
It's not that Enji is too much of a "Get The Job Done" type, it's that the rest of the heroes are ultra reliant on All Might and would rather wait for his interference than take the risk and act out of their comfort bubble. This reliance on All Might is what ultimately weakens the heroes. It's a garbage approach. Not every crisis can be resolved with no damage no victims
It's not like Endeavor can choose between having no victims and having someone suffer. That's the prerogative of All Might. All Might can save everyone, other people have fucking limitations
I don't know about Knuckleduster, I don't analyze him that closely but he definitely has no issues getting his hands dirty and not making it pretty. However, I also see him as way less "proper". His methods are lowkey more condemnable than Endeavor's if we talking about hero work? He somehow can just go around and terrorize children though you know. KD is more extreme imo
It's not like I disagree with you but the way you put it seems like there's a way they could do it better without the damage and broken bones. Well, sometimes you can't! Sometimes there's no way everything can be worked out perfectly! I would rather say it's the positive trait of theirs, in comparison to ultra reliant on All Might, unable to risk and overly concerned about the reputation society of pro heroes

Ask Game: Pop Step ends up joining the League of Villains during the time of the main manga because, after what happened to her in Vigilantes and with Koichi off in America, she has absolutely no hope of being able to get a legitimate job for herself and has to turn to crime to survive.
1. Pop doesn't know the guy behind Rokuro is the same guy behind Shigaraki, because if she did she would have stolen Dabi's gun herself and do her best to take out AfO first. All she knows is it's a roof over her head, and surely these guys aren't that much worse than Soga and friends, who helped her out too, right?
2. Yeah some of that is willful ignorance, some is desperation. Hardly matters, because she's there now. She gets a new look, because while Shigaraki points out that being recognizable as QueenStep would work to make her more intimidating, she refuses to go back to anything Rokuro had a hand in. She's not putting the costume her kidnapper designed for her back on, thanks.
3. Toga still thinks she looks cute though. Pop says thanks, but puts up boundaries- she lost enough of her body to people who said they loved her, she's not giving up any more. Still, Pop keeps an eye out for Toga and Magne from the others, especially at the beginning when she's still trying to figure out how far to trust these guys. Toga wraps her head around it eventually, realizing she's the little sister of the three, a novel experience for her but one she's happy to go along with.
4. Giran, who told KD how to remove the bee parasite from the previous Queen Bee, also understands Pop and gets her great gear that lets her disguise her jump slightly, and gives her ranged artillery since he's sure not actually putting faith in Dabi or Mustard with the guns
5. Pop shoots Chisaki lol Kurono wasn't the only gunman hiding in the rafters at that meeting

So this chapter Endeavor finally wonders whatever is he doing and overall it seems it's the death arms situation of mentally nerfed. But while Hawks says his lungs were missed, the liver theorists might be right due to the massive blood on the grass in such a short time. Liver theories term him Prometheus, the alternate to Frankenstein(books subtitle was modern Prometheus) who got his liver eaten by a eagle over and over for the sin of passing fire to humanity. I will add about Vigilantes*
*I will add about Vigs: The comparative foreshadowing can still be a possibility. Knuckleduster reappears to fight the villan but is immediately taken out of fight so Koichi gets to but KD's ghost while KD is in a coma and Pop's ghost apear to Koichi and guide him. That's the only possible logistics for Dabi meeting. Also there's something fairly suicidal like KD about Endeavor's words and pause ellipsis imply dying breath. Other theory either Dabi or he are going fire giant like No 6 and explod
While the Prometheus connection is actually something that could be really cool, I doubt that was the direction Hori was intending to go with Endeavor. Or maybe I've just been burned (...heh) by his writing too much to give him the benefit of the doubt anymore.
It does seem like he's mentally checked out from the fight but that hasn't reflected on him well as he's being dead weight to the heroes on the battlefield (especially Hawks who is half-distracted trying to get him to act).
I don't think people would be very satisfied if Enji and Dabi meet while Enji is a ghost due to being in a coma or dead. I know I wouldn't be.
Honestly I don't have strong opinions on the manga anymore, I can't make guesses on what will happen to Endeavor, especially as I've been wrong about him and the direction Hori plans to go with him before.
