My first real appointment through orthopedics to finally try and get set up with an aftermarket leg is coming up on Monday.
The previous referral last year just didn't work out, for multiple reasons, and I was a bit bummed over that. I think part of the problem was it falling through the cracks because nobody really seems to be sure what to do with somebody showing up from completely outside their system already minus a leg.
But, we thought to ask that new endo for a fresh referral. So, I did get an intake appointment set up through ortho, with no schedule collisions this time.
In one way, I'm excited to hopefully get moving toward with the process of getting set up with a prosthetic. I would really like to be able to get around better again! And, you know, be able to take my sorry ass off paved surfaces and up steps and stuff again!
OTOH, due to the person I am? I am trying not to borrow too much trouble and drive myself crazy worrying in the meantime. Especially the closer that draws.
Frankly, not least that somebody is gonna just say, "Oops, it's been so long and this entire situation does not fit into any familiar procedures. We just can't/won't help you!”
Yeah, I know there is going to be an awful lot of PT ahead, likely before I even get to the point of any fitting. I have some other concerns about that, after some sufficiently unpleasant experiences as a troublesome-bendy individual, with rehab-focused PT after injuries/knee surgeries (directly coming from the probably-EDS) in the past. My knees are also pretty damned terrible, and also kinda further destabilized by said surgical tinkering.
But, I am much older and more confident now--and not nearly as eager to take any "no pain, no gain!" bullshit seriously. Much less push in ill-advised ways until I do my bendy self an injury.
But yeah, even right now? I would place good money if I had it on the likelihood that I am currently in better shape than 75% of the new patients they see much sooner than this after surgery. Who are statistically much older and otherwise in pretty damned bad health. Probably I've been staying more physically active over the past few years than a lot of that demographic have been able to, even under the current circumstances
Mean age at the time of the first registered amputation in our sample was 74 years (SD 14); women were older (78, SD 14, CI 77–79) than men (72, SD 14, CI 72–73). 43% of the patients were 80 years or older by the time of the primary amputation (Figure 3). The mortality rate of the registered patients was 19% within 6 months and 24% within the 1st year after the last registered amputation. The 1-year mortality rate after TFA was 40%, after KD 38%, and after TTA 24%.
("Lucky" transtibial/TTA here. Those figures are from the Swedish national database, BTW. Because there is one. You see dire mortality rates after this sort of surgery come up? That's a lot of why. Those demographics and the occasional nasty accident requiring amputation seriously skew things.)
There were reasons they kept going on about how young and healthy my middle-aged ass that had just barely cheated death was when I was stuck in the hospital in Romford. And therefore considered a candidate for prosthetics at all under that system. Not going off on that rant right now.
Still, the majority of those elderly patients in otherwise not great shape DO get successfully set up on replacement legs here. Which is encouraging, that they are likely not looking hard for excuses to avoid spending the money. (We're talking the equivalent of a new not-cheap car, back in the US. Region Skåne is still set to lay out a fair chunk of change here. We are thankfully not directly.)
I do rationally doubt that I would get turned away just because I have been off that leg for several years now, and my knees were terrible even before that. And I fucking suck at trying to use forearm crutches, which I am not at all used to and have a very different feel than the type I do have too much experience on.
But yeah, my brain just won't leave things alone as usual. That's just one of the crappiest possibilities it's seized onto right now.

Do you think your sims would have survived the lockdown part of covid? I know we all pretty much lost our minds. Do you think any of them would have been the type that "took advantage" of the time?
honestly i don't know when 2020 would've fit into the timeline so i'm basically fudging this whole thing lmao
oh beth & caroline would've been REALLY close to filing for divorce. with cara being a tattoo artist, she would've been completely out of work and beth would've been working from home (she's a children's therapist) but there are no extra rooms in the house to use as an office, so she would've had to either use the computer in the living room/dining room/kitchen which would be a major privacy issue, or set it up in their bedroom which is super small. they were already having relationship issues at that time, but being trapped in such close quarters..... they would be at each other's throats... and they wouldn't even be able to have crazy makeup sex (the only tried and true solution to their problems fjksjd) because asa is in the next room doing virtual school 😭 btw asa definitely started making bread from scratch and promised himself he would keep doing it after life went back to normal (he did not).
stevie would still be working. KD would have let her stay home, but stevie would be desperate to get out of the house (oh my god her parents would be insufferable) and not be lonely anymore. you know that tiktok that's like "you think you can hurt my feelings but it was my job to enforce the cracker barrel mask mandate as a 17 yo butch lesbian" literally that but "it was my job to enforce the mask mandate for rural american truck drivers as a 16 yo trans girl" 🫡
elaine and jada are lucky because their bedroom windows face each other, so they could technically see each other. elaine would've fallen down the skincare rabbit-hole and completely ruined her skin in a matter of months (me too girl...... happened to the best of us) and jada would've had time to make tons of art, but she would have extreme art block and spend most of her time just laying in bed being anxious (again. me too girl.)
i guess casper would still be in high school, and sadie was still just a toddler. danny had already been working from home for years, so it would be nothing new for him
trigger warning for serious discussion of covid below
mikaela is a pediatric nurse at a hospital, so i don't really want to go into detail about how emotionally damaging that time must've been :( she would be working nonstop and i think she wouldn't even want to go home afterwards for fear of transferring germs. she might have stayed in a hotel during the peak of things
i'm gonna be honest i think 2020 would've been the worst year of coco's life because her boyfriend had cancer and was going through chemo, so obviously she could not be anywhere near him unless she was willing to be 100% quarantined with him, which she couldn't do because she needed to work. she had people counting on her. and she had.... a lot of other stuff going on too, some of which would've been affected by a pandemic but i can't really go into detail about that
and finally i have to state the obvious -- people died, no matter how careful they or their families were, and sometimes it didn't even matter how healthy they were before covid hit. i had family members who were immunocompromised get covid and i thought they wouldn't survive but they did, while other people in my life were only in their 40s/50s and healthy but they didn't survive. so in my mind, there's no point trying to guess how my characters would fare, and also it just feels icky in general. but it felt weirder to not acknowledge this at all, so. here's this ramble.
i also want to send love to anyone who continues to be affected by covid in a world that wants you to believe it's "over", whether that be from long covid, grief, being immunocompromised yourself, etc. i see you ♥

hey gamers,
i wanna be a gamer, i wanna be up in here gaming on a thursday afternoon, double-monitored up, hella snacks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
yoohoo big summa blowout. it's fall and it's amazing. loving my sweater moments because i exist in sweater weather. it is a time for seasonal depression, but also for cute and bulky sweaters! my favorite accessory. I consider them accessories because they are very much a part of my outfit. i am my outfit. i am the main attraction. just kidding...the sweater is the main attraction, i'm not that egotistical...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
anyway....i don't have much to say to be honest. i have talked to people and had my fill of spill-ing out my brain. i am content with my state of mind right now (i have no big assignments due tonight or tomorrow night). i am stressed about next week with 2 midterms and more big work coming in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the adhd brain is such an interesting thing--how can one be so distracted and yet not be able to distract oneself when necessary? trauma is one thing, but intrusive thoughts are so dumb and stupid. why have a brain if it can't function well enough to do what you tell it to do?
figures, i have so much on my plate and so much death in mind. my uncle's, my friend from high schools--which makes me think of the students last year who died and all others, and liam payne from one direction???? like what???? that's crazy. i can't strip that down for him the same anymore. wtf. like i can't take death in general, but this one is so different. it's like when cameron boyce died. so young and so out of the blue. i was shocked when i heard the news and it's just so terrible. fucking TMZ, ofc they posted a partial picture of his body, like wtf. no composure/demeanor like my interpreting gang knows. just odd behavior.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i am into watching House MD and honestly it's so interesting. my mom was on general hospital and dr. quinn medicine woman, which i'm sure no one knows about and probably one other show i can't remember, but i am into House right now. i like the dynamic, for now, and might get sick of it soon, though, cause i've been watching it a lot lately and might be overindulging. it's whatever. the show is witty and informative. i enjoy seeing the ways that the doctors develop their personalities and i wish there was a bit more drama relating to each of the doctors, but it's mainly about house and his group of doctors. oh shwell. maybe i am more into drama hospital shows than i thought. my youtube shorts feed sure thinks i am (and i keep liking them). i hate algorithms sometimes.
i have been instagram-free for a couple of years now! and tik tok free for some handful of months! but i am terribly addicted to youtube shorts.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
rock, paper, scissors, says shoot! i picked scissors what did you pick
The only thing an A&R man needs, Seymour Stein once said, was a good pair of ears. Stein, who has died aged 80, might have added indefatigable enthusiasm, a streak of opportunism and a shrewd business brain, all of which he deployed in a career that saw him sign the deals that launched the careers of Madonna, the Ramones, Talking Heads, kd lang and many others.
Those artists enjoyed their first hits on Sire Records, the label Stein co-founded in 1966 and with which he remained synonymous even after his company had been absorbed by the Warner Music group. By the time he stood down in 2018, unhappy with corporate politicking, Stein’s achievements had long since earned him a place among the finest “record men” – as they were known – of his generation.
“I have no easily definable skills or talents. I’m a hit man, a record business entrepreneur,” he wrote in the introduction to his autobiography, Siren Song, in 2018. He played no instrument and had no technical knowledge, for which he was ultimately grateful, believing it might have got in the way of an appreciation of artists who could not be judged by conventional musical standards.
The story of how Stein acquired the US rights to the then-unknown British band Depeche Mode for his label typified his modus operandi, based on instinct and energy. One day in 1980 he picked up the latest issue of a British music paper in his New York office and read about a new group signed by a UK contact, Daniel Miller, to his Mute Records label. On a hunch, he grabbed his passport, booked a ticket to London on Concorde, and went straight from the airport to meet the group in Basildon, Essex, their home town, an hour’s drive east of London. “I signed them on the spot,” he remembered.
Their subsequent success made them one of a string of British bands whose records he released in the US. When his rivals called him an anglophile, it was not always, he recalled, meant as a compliment. But it was British musicians, from the Climax Blues Band to the Smiths, who provided a bedrock for his business.
To sign Madonna Ciccone in 1982, he summoned the singer to his bedside at the hospital where he had undergone heart surgery. Having listened to her demo tape, he offered the 24-year-old $45,000 for three singles with the option to release an album. Going on to sell more than 60m albums in the US alone while helping to reshape feminism for a new generation of young women, she was his greatest success.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Dora (nee Weisberg) and David Steinbigle, Orthodox Jews whose own parents had emigrated from Galicia, the region of eastern Europe straddling Poland and Ukraine. His father was employed in Manhattan’s garment industry while his mother worked at her family’s market in Coney Island.
A heart murmur in infancy kept him away from sports at Lafayette high school, where he discovered that he preferred applying his prodigious memory to Billboard magazine’s charts of current bestselling pop records than to his lessons. The love of music was kindled by listening to the records brought home by his older sister.
During a summer holiday he talked his way into an internship at Billboard’s offices on 47th Street and Broadway. It was there that he met Syd Nathan, the myopic, asthmatic, choleric boss of King Records, the label of James Brown, based in Cincinnati. In 1961 Nathan suggested that he shorten his surname and offered him a job, asking, “Do you want to be a spectator or do you want to be in the game?”
It was at King that Stein learned, from the ground up, how the record business really worked. His knowledge would be expanded while working for George Goldner, another old-time record man, at the Red Bird label, where the Shangri-Las and the Dixie Cups were the hit acts.
There he met the songwriter and producer Richard Gottehrer, with whom he founded Sire, each putting in $10,000. The Climax Blues Band, Barclay James Harvest, Matthews Southern Comfort – all from the UK – were among early successes, along with an album by the Dutch band Focus, before the pair began releasing their own self-recorded albums from 1970.
After Gottehrer had left the label in the mid-1970s, Stein and his wife Linda could be seen patrolling the New York clubs, scouting a new generation of local bands. They were quick to pounce on the Ramones, with their two-minute blasts of brattish attitude, and the cooler art-school rock of Talking Heads. From the UK came Echo and the Bunnymen, Soft Cell, and the Pretenders, whose American singer, Chrissie Hynde, was impressed by Stein’s extraordinary recall of lyrics old and new.
As well as continuing to sign emerging acts – many of them from the UK, such as My Bloody Valentine, Aphex Twin and Everything But the Girl – Stein also played a significant role in the later careers of established stars. Brian Wilson’s eponymous first solo LP was released on Sire in 1988; the following year Lou Reed’s artistic momentum was revived by the first of a series of Sire albums, titled New York.
While on a constant search for new music, Stein used his fortune to eat well and to collect art and antiques, including The Siren by the pre-Raphaelite painter John William Waterhouse, which he sold at Sotheby’s in London in 2018 for a reported $5m. In 1983 he helped found the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, into which he was inducted in 2005.
He and Linda Adler were married in 1971, shortly after she had recovered from the shock of his announcement that he was gay. Their formidable and often turbulent partnership, which also produced two daughters, was ended by divorce after seven years. Samantha, their elder daughter, died of cancer in 2013. Stein is survived by their younger daughter, Mandy, and by his sister, Ann.
I literally cannot eat at 95% of restaurants or fast food places. I can't eat meals on long flights, so I can't do any flight longer than 6 hours, because you can't bring your own food. I have to smuggle food into amusement parks if I want to eat. I love baking, but so many recipes are off limits. I can't wear makeup. I can use maybe 4 brands of soap, and 3 of lotion. I have to use cheap box dye for my hair because it's the safest option. I have to know the Latin names of my allergens. I pack food to stay in hotels, and if it's not near a grocery store, I pack a cooler to last my whole trip. I can't eat ramen, so I get microwave KD. I lost 10 pounds during a camping trip in high school because the only thing I could safely eat was rice and cold hot dogs for six days. I can have one brand of ice cream.
When going under for surgery, I have to request a different anaesthetic, because the standard mix uses a solution with egg whites. Antibiotics are always a huge gamble, I know I react to some but not which ones. Hospital staff need to either write small or give me two red bracelets.
I had bullies coat my belongings in peanut butter and try to force feed me my allergens, I had to miss the final two months of sixth grade and permanently fuck up my education because of it.
Fuck teachers who whine and mock nut allergy kids! We didn't ask to have allergies!! We don't like it either!!
I wasn't going to derail the disability pride month post for people with peanut allergies but in relation to that topic
I have never seen another allergy that has been so viscerally hated and mocked by people working in education like nut allergies. I've seen fellow teachers cringe that their classroom was the "nut free" classroom that year. Support staff that are trained and willfully don't follow cross contamination protocol in the lunchroom because it's too "tedious" or "time-consuming". Full preschools + childcare centers that refuse to accommodate nut allergies. Schools where the only free lunch is a PB&J. Before/after school programs and summer programs whose food curriculum has nuts and doesn't provide an alternative activity.
Allergy discrimination is so so insidious and prevalent. It's happening behind their back and it is everything from the exposure joke to possibly causing someone to go into anaphylaxis from willful ignorance.
Also other parents in the classroom are guilty too. The "not my child not my problem" brain rot means that those lunchboxes are like bombs for airborne exposure allergies
When Is One Ought To Visit A Gynecologist?
Visiting a gynecologist is an important part of maintaining overall reproductive and sexual health for women. It is recommended that women visit a gynecologist at least once a year for a regular checkup and pap smear.
Tumblr media
What is Pap Smear?
The Pap Smear is a test that screens for cervical cancer and can detect abnormal cells before they turn into cancer.
Most women in Ahmedabad are either ashamed or embarrassed to visit a gynecologist, because they fear being judged. Although you must know that it is super important and healthy to go for a vaginal checkup once or twice a year just like you do for your outer body checkup. The gynecologist can help you in several issues that you may not know about, it is good to have a checkup annually.
Is There A Specific Time To Visit A Gynecologist?
Well, there is no specification of time to visit a gynecologist for a checkup. After the age of 21, a woman is recommended to see a gynecologist for a checkup once a year or whenever you have any concerns about symptoms for pelvic exam, vulvar, or vaginal pain or unusual uterine or vaginal bleeding, or anything that is abnormal or out of the blue.
Additionally, it is important to schedule an appointment with the gynecologist if experiencing any unusual symptoms such as irregular periods, abnormal discharge, pelvic pain, or changes in breast tissue. It is also important for sexually active women to schedule regular gynecological exams to screen for sexually transmitted infections. Women should discuss with their healthcare provider the appropriate frequency of visits based on their individual health needs.
Are you finding the best gynecologist in Ahmedabad? KD Blossom provides outstanding treatments with necessary support and the best gynecology services in Ahmedabad:
Irregular period cycles
Menstruation disorders
Premenstrual syndrome
Vaginal discharge
Chronic pelvic pain
Pregnancy
Menopause-related disorders
STIs
Problems of the reproductive system related to vaginal odor, vulvar and vaginal ulcers, ovarian cysts, and others.
Sexual maladjustments and more
Although there is no specific or recommended time period to visit a gynecologist, it is best for you to visit for a pelvic exam, which is essential for detecting any abnormalities or disease.
A gynecologist should be seen between the ages of 14 to 16. A girl or a woman should be taught to feel comfortable while talking about menstruation, sexuality, vaginal problems, etc from a young age itself, hence they do not feel embarrassed later in life and build a healthy habit of seeing a gynecologist once a while. This also allows the doctors to provide long-term guidance for a woman’s general welfare through counseling on health & lifestyle issues.
Why Is It Crucial To Visit A Gynecologist?
Sexually transmitted disease
Vaginal cancer
Yeast infections
Fibroids
Vaginal dryness
Endometriosis
Pelvic inflammatory disease
Urinary tract infections
Signs Or Symptoms You Need To See A Gynecologist
It is vital to do a regular checkup, although there can be some symptoms or signs you need to visit a gynecologist, these include
Frequent changes in your menstrual cycle
In case of no menstruation or a period cycle lasting for more than 7 days
In case of missing a period or symptoms of pregnancy
Abnormal vaginal bleeding, vaginal odor, abnormal discharge, change in the color of the discharge, or itching or burning around your vagina.
If it is your first appointment, there is no need to be scared or embarrassed, you can communicate with the gynecologist comfortably about your issues or any problem you’re facing. Women gynecologists are recommended to girls and women who are at first not comfortable talking or discussing vaginal health or problems. At KD Blossom Hospital, our gynecology services are open for all different women, especially those from the economically weaker sections of the society who don’t have access to quality health care. We care for young women concerned with irregular cycles, contraceptive technology, urogynaecological problems, and preventive gynecological care to deliver the highest quality care and services to women throughout their life cycle. There is a team of the best and most experienced gynecologists in Ahmedabad to deal with adolescent, reproductive, menopausal, urinary incontinence, pelvic prolapse, and other vaginal issues along with other consultative and surgical care needed by women.
As women age, it becomes increasingly vital to schedule regular gynecological exams. This is because the risk of certain conditions such as breast cancer, osteoporosis, and menopause-related issues increases with age. It is important to note that every woman’s healthcare needs are unique. Women should discuss with their gynecologist or healthcare provider the appropriate frequency of visits based on their individual health needs. This can be determined based on factors such as age, sexual activity, and overall health.
It is vital for women of any age (especially young adults) to not ignore a routine checkup. This is important for several reasons, including the fact that it can help detect ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, sexually transmitted diseases, PCOD/PCOS, etc. The checkups are usually pain free and quick, hence there is no need for you to panic. We, at KD Blossom Hospital, are committed to providing the best care for women and educating or guiding them about overall vaginal health.
The Evolution of Self-Ordering Kiosks in the Hospitality Industry
Self-ordering kiosks have revolutionized the hospitality industry over the last couple of years. They change how people relate to restaurants, cafes, and any service-based business. The self-ordering kiosks were initially a novelty; nowadays, they have become very common in the hospitality sector. This article takes a look at how the self-ordering kiosk has changed over time and how it has influenced hospitality in this fast world.
The Early Beginnings: A Solution for Efficiency
Hospitality's concept of self-ordering kiosks was based on an extremely simple notion: speed up the service and shorten waiting lines. Restaurants and fast food began installing kiosks just to allow the guests to order directly at their discretion rather than stand long at the counter, making ordering less of a process that speeds up service, cuts wait times, and brings back high customer satisfaction levels where they can customise without time pressure.
These kiosks in their early stages were really primitive, with few options to navigate menus and a straightforward way of ordering. Soon they proved their value: They reduced the burden of employees and improved the service speed, especially in denser environments.
The Future Stage: Customer Experience Development
With technological advancements, so did the capabilities of self-ordering kiosks. The second generation of kiosks became even more interactive with digital displays, touch screens, and dynamic menus. These kiosks allowed customers to view images of menu items, nutritional information, and even make special requests on their orders.
Restaurants started integrating the payment systems into the kiosks themselves, meaning customers could finalize their payments without waiting for a server to take their orders. Not only did this enhance the operational efficiency, but also it reduced the human error involved in taking orders. The customers liked the higher degree of control they had over their dining experience, hence increased satisfaction.
The Current and Future Scenario: Personalization and Integration
Self-ordering kiosks today are no longer just digital order-takers but part of an integrated customer experience. Modern kiosks have evolved to include features such as loyalty program integration, where customers can earn and redeem points, and personalized recommendations based on previous orders. Personalization is a good way for businesses to build stronger relationships with customers and drive repeat business.
In addition, self-ordering kiosks are being more and more integrated with kitchen display systems (KDS) and point-of-sale (POS) systems. This integration ensures seamless communication between the front and back of house, making orders get processed quickly and accurately to improve kitchen efficiency and reduce wait times.
Conclusion
Self-ordering kiosks have come a long way in the hospitality industry. From simple solutions to speed up service, they have evolved into powerful tools that enhance customer satisfaction, increase operational efficiency, and create personalized experiences.
