Six of Crows Russian Edition
Today I found this gorgeous gem at the bookstore!
So a few years ago I moved overseas to live in a Russian speaking country. I am not in Russia, for the record. The national language here is not Russian, but it is commonly spoken in my city.
Today at the bookstore I looked for a copy of Crooked Kingdom for the cast of Shadow and Bone to sign this May when I go to A Storm of Shadows and Crows convention in Paris. I don't own a copy of SOC or KC in English and there's no chance of finding one where I live. The next best option was getting a book in the local language and calling it a souvenir of my time abroad. To my delight I found this lovely Russian edition of Six of Crows!
More stunning artwork below.
There were multiple versions of the books to choose from. The original art and the Netflix artwork were available too. The most impressive part was finding copies of the original covers WITHOUT the Netflix sticker. (Haha, suck it Netflix.) To the right, not pictured were King of Scars and Rule of Wolves.
I've never seen this cover variation before. It was an exciting find!
The Russian version I bought is illustrated by (I assume Russian?) artist Eva Eller.
I didn't see a copy of Crooked Kingdom with illustrations by the same artist at this bookstore, but it must exist. Mine was the last copy of SOC with the Russian artwork. Maybe it was sold out?
Google Translate titles the book Six of Ravens, lol. But that's just a translation error because a little google-foo showed that ворона (pronounced vorona) means crow. Interestingly, while typing the title, I learned that вор (pronounced vor) means thief. Interesting how similar the words crow and thief are in Russian. Checks out.
Above is the art printed on the side of the pages. Love how it still includes the side of the pages colored, just like the original books.
The hardcover underneath the jacket is a crow. It's not the same as pictured on the original CK cover, but it is similar. Love the messy, broken, bent feathers, yet the crow is still able to fly. Metaphor for our six characters? Absolutely!
The book was wrapped in cellophane so I didn't realize there was even more art inside! Here is the inner cover. IT'S BEAUTIFUL! The back is the same. It captures the foggy haze of Ketterdam so well.
The flaps of the book jacket are images from the inner cover. But there's a cracked texture over them that gives it a gorgeous grittiness.
The candle is the left side of the inner book jacket. Sorry the image isn't flat, I didn't want to damage the jacket by straightening it out.
The right side of the book jacket shows all the Crows!
Let's appreciate how Matthias looks snow pale and serious. Inej is taller than Nina -- she must be standing on a step stool. No clue why both of their eyes are closed, especially when Nina is the one pointing to the paper. They are lovely. Kaz has on his scheming face. Jesper is as handsome as every version of him should be. And Wylan looks bored AF because A.) he's already memorized the map he drew or B.) he can't read whatever document Kaz has in front of them. Wait, no, Wylan is making heart eyes at Jesper. All of the above can be true.
Inside is a small illustration at the beginning of each chapter, which changes with each section.
You can also see the Crow's names written in Cyrillic. Inej, Kaz, Nina, and Matthias translate easily. Jesper uses the д (letter D) and ж (pronounced like zhe) letter combination that makes his name sound like Zhesper since there is no J in Cyrillic. It's worth pointing out (again) that Wylan's name does not translate perfectly. There is no W in the Cyrillic alphabet. (As someone who also has a W in their name, I sympathize with Wylan here.) I'm no expert in Russian, but I'm pretty sure -- with the help of google translate -- that Wylan is pronounced as Oo-ai-len. Poor boy can't catch a break.
Each of the five section of the book use different chapter art. They all do an excellent job capturing the atmosphere.
The paper is so thin that you can easily see the printing on the opposite side. Not ideal for an edition that's otherwise this lovely. Oh well.
Given that Ravka is fantasy Russia, it's not a surprise to find the Grisha Verse books in Russian.
I am so excited to bring this book to Paris for the cast to sign!

A woman has been found guilty of handing over a three-year-old British girl for female genital mutilation (FGM) during a trip to Kenya, in the first conviction of its kind.
After a trial at the Old Bailey, Amina Noor, 39, was convicted of assisting a Kenyan woman to carry out the procedure in 2006. The conviction, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years, is the first for assisting in such harm under the Female Genital Mutilation Act 2003.
The only other successful prosecution under the act was in 2019 when a Ugandan woman from Walthamstow, east London, was jailed for 11 years for cutting a three-year-old girl.
Campaigners said the verdict showed that the introduction in 2015 of mandatory reporting of suspected FGM was working.
The senior crown prosecutor Patricia Strobino hailed Noor’s conviction, saying: “This kind of case will hopefully encourage potential victims and survivors of FGM to come forward, safe in the knowledge that they are supported, believed and also are able to speak their truth about what’s actually happened to them.
“It will also send a clear message to those prospective defendants or people that want to maintain this practice that it doesn’t matter whether they assist or practise or maintain this practice within the UK or overseas, they are likely to be prosecuted.”
Strobino added: “Part of the challenge of this type of offence is the fact that these types of offences occur in secrecy. Within specific communities within the UK, although these offences and practices are prevalent, it is often very difficult to get individuals to come forward to explain the circumstances of what’s happened to them because there was a fear that they may be excluded or pushed away or shunned, isolated from their community.”
Previously, the prosecutor Deanna Heer KC said Noor travelled to Kenya with the girl in 2006 and while there took her to a private house where the child was subjected to FGM.
The crime only came to light years later when the girl was 16 and confided in her English teacher at school.
When spoken to, the defendant said she thought the procedure was just an injection and that afterwards the girl was “happy and able to run around and play”. But when examined in 2019, it emerged that the girl’s clitoris had been removed.
Noor appeared “shocked and upset” and said that was not what she had thought was going to happen, Heer said. According to an initial account, Noor described going with another woman to a “clinic” where the girl was called into a room for a procedure.
The defendant said she was invited in but refused because she was “scared and worried”. Afterwards, the girl appeared quiet and cried the whole night and complained of pain, according to the account.
In a later police interview under caution, Noor denied that anyone had made threats against her before FGM was done to the girl.
Heer said: “She was asked whether, when she arrived at the clinic or even before then, she felt she did not want it to happen. She said: ‘Yeah I thought about it but then, you know, got it done.’”
Jurors were told the defendant was born in Somalia and moved to Kenya at the age of eight during the civil war in Somalia. She was 16 when she came to the UK and was later granted British citizenship.
The defendant described what had been done to the girl as “Sunnah”, meaning “tradition” or “way” in Arabic, and said it was a practice that had gone on for cultural reasons for many years.
Giving evidence in her trial, Noor, from Harrow, in north-west London, said she was threatened with being “cursed” and “disowned” within her community if she did not take part. She told jurors that the threat gave her “pain”, adding: “That was a pressure I had no power to do anything about.”
The alleged victim, who is now 21, cannot be identified for legal reasons.
Nimco Ali, an FGM survivor who founded the Five Foundation, a global partnership to end the cutting of girls, welcomed the verdict.
She said: “It is incredible that the mandatory reporting by teachers and healthcare professionals – that we have fought hard for – is starting to pay off. A girl was obviously failed. She was let down by the system but she got some form of justice today thanks to the policies that we now have in place.”
She added: “We have to address FGM in the UK and everywhere by working together to address the root causes of the issue.”
Research in 2014 estimated that 137,000 women and girls are affected by FGM in England and Wales. Ali said this estimate needed updating urgently.

Help. I bet you smart sleuthers have already covered this topic somewhere around our Tumblr neighborhood, but per usual I'm late to the party. Will someone please help me better understand Sparry's so-called "visit" with the King because the photographs and timing just don't add up. Connecting the dots seems to reveal 2 rebellious overseas unroyals who were determined to show up at Clarence House with or without permission.
On Tuesday, I felt annoyed to see the Royal Family YouTube channel (unaffiliated w/the BRF) patched into a live stream outside of Buckingham Palace. I thought it was a ridiculous invasion of privacy. Now I understand that the King was previously scheduled to arrive at BP (late morning) and the media was waiting to capture the first photo of king Charles post -treatment.
It seems Charles & Camilla were on a tight schedule which could explain the early morning (or overnight) visit with Beatrice & Edo.
The British media obviously knew that Charles was expected at BP and yet they disregarded this important bit of information to focus on Sparry's PR talking points---- all the while these manipulative talking heads knew the King had a prior engagement in his diary.
Pressure Pressure Pressure is what The Meghans wickedly tried to apply to Charles & William. There was even a mention of an EMPTY Frogmore Cottage. How low can these 2 go?🤬
Perhaps Mr and Mrs Sparry informed the men in grey of their plans to gatecrash the king & queen's departure. "Coming with or without permission." This would also explain why they flooded the media with Sparry's intention to see his father "within the next 2 days" followed by that crystal clear photograph at LAX. Someone around our Tumblr community or perhaps on reddit shared a catchy manifesting term...I'm sorry I didn't write it down bc it perfectly describes how The Meghans use her sharp elbows to bully their way through life.
All of this MANIFESTING crap to manipulate a face to face meeting with Charles: a man reeling from a life threatening diagnosis, recovering from an invasive procedure, and preparing for some sort of systemic poison.
Have I mentioned that The Meghans SUCK at compassion!!!
Beatrice & Edo
Doesn't it seem likely that family members have been welcomed to Clarence House (post-diagnosis) to wish Charles well before his Sandringham retreat-----perhaps the beginning of holistic treatments or simply to recover from the 1st of several adjuvant treatments.
The couple seems dressed for an early morning visit with a family member, NOT an audience with the King of England.
vs.
Sparry
Perhaps Sparry told the Palace "Me too! I'm coming to see my father too" and he was told "not this week," and MEgain responded "we'll see about that!"
I seem to remember Sparry had to be forced (by the Queen Elizabeth) to speak to his father and that meeting ended with shouting.
I also seem to remember Sparry had no time to give his family before or after His father's coronation.
As a courtesy, the men in grey delayed KC's departure & granted Sparry an audience with His Majesty the King, not a visit/block of time for a father-son brunch or lunch.
Sparry wearing all black upon his entrance to Clarence House but upon departure he's photographed wearing black and white, with a tie. Why didn't Sparry change clothes on the airplane?
This publicity stunt was meant to bury the African Parks story and the story about the (mon)ARCHewell revolving door. The Meghans have proven to the family (yet again) that there is no bottom to their depravity.
It was also a test for His Majesty's government as they push for IPP status, a campaign for royal housing, and of course information gathering for blackmail.
Let's do the math:
An audience with a sovereign (or even a President) is only about 5-10 minutes plus or minus time for photographs.
Sparry arrived at Clarence House by 2:45pm. Charles & Camilla were in a vehicle by 3:30pm. Sparry (if the photo is current) changed into business attire while at Clarence House. How long was Sparry in the same room as Charles?
Have I mentioned that MEgain and Sparry are SCUM and so are the British talking heads who served as their mouthpieces!?!?!

Sophie Perry at PinkNews:
The documents leaked by the Good Law Project and reported by QueerAF state that young people and their families who use “unregulated” and “overseas providers” for gender-affirming care should cease doing so, or they may face safeguarding referrals. Speaking with QueerAF, Jo Maugham KC – executive director of the Good Law Project – said: “It’s reasonable to describe this as an attempt to force people to detransition.” The document, which the Good Law Project states does not bear the name of any NHS professional, asks providers of mental health support to children and young people (CYP) to invite those on the national waiting list for gender services for a face-to-face appointment.
[...] Furthermore, at the assessment stage, the providers have been asked to follow recommendations of the Cass Review and advise children not to take puberty blockers or gender-affirming hormones obtained via routes without “appropriate care”. Whilst it is not stated what “appropriate care” refers to, the “overseas” routes being advised against. If a trans young person disregards such advice and a provider considers that this “puts the child/young person at increased risk, then a safeguarding referral may also be appropriate in line with standard safeguarding approaches”.
In essence, if a trans young person seeks private gender-affirming care and their parents support them, they could be referred to local authorities. [...\ In a statement provided to QueerAF following the publication of its report, a spokesperson for the NHS said that this process is about putting in place an “enhanced mental health support offer for all children and young people under 18 on the waiting list for specialist gender services, or who are awaiting their first appointment with the new services.”
England continues its not-so-sterling reputation as “TERF Island”, as trans kids in England could be forced to detransition following the Cass Review, per a leaked proposal from NHS England.

Celta, Rebecca English for the Daily Mail reports King Charles is planning more overseas trips in 2025. Is this a case of the King going stir-crazy at home and wants to resume his former workload? KC's doctors said no to NZ and limited # of days in Australia, hence my surprise to more trips in 2025. The DM article also said KC & Camilla's relationship "is better than ever," which felt like a red herring— aka not going well behind the scenes as you read KC & Camilla had fights on H&M coming back.
Hi Nonny,
I would need to see how long The King is travelling for these trips and how long he is spending on them, but on first look it does seem like he is refusing to follow his doctor's advice and just doing what he wants to do. If he knows his cancer is not going to get better then fair enough, spend the time you have left doing what you like as much as you can within the limits of your job, but if not it seems a rather risky thing to do. Then again, maybe he has been cleared by the doctors and we don't know about it.
I always distrust any comments on a relationship like that one. People who are in a stable, happy relationship rarely if ever feel the need to make public announcements about it.

Mokuba's Future Possibilities
If there is one word I can use to describe Mokuba it would be potential. The kid in both anime and manga storylines is so full of it that the possibilities for what his future will be are pretty much endless. That being said, I'm going to go into some general concepts for that future, with concepts for the anime storyline, the manga storyline, or ones that work for both. These are ideas that either can be solo ones or can be combined together depending on plotting.
I also want to take a second to thank some of the folks who participated in discussions or plotting sessions in relation to some of these possibilities. Talking with mutuals is where a lot of the best ideas come out, so I have to send out thanks to everyone for doing that with me! So thank you @shachou @ofhardknoxxx @relevc @cyberends @apricotheart and anyone else I might have forgotten (Because my memory is horrible, forgive me.)! I appreciate all of you for discussing some of these with me! <3
Alright, let's get started!
The Capsule King (Manga mainly but could be for the Anime)
Mokuba has always been known as a champion of Capsule Monsters Chess. So, naturally, and similar to his bro, he'd strive to be at the very top of the game, to be the 'King of the Capsule Monsters' (also known as the Capsule King). This is one of the goals that Mokuba sets for himself during his high school, and he works very hard on his skills constantly. He has resorted to cheating in the past (especially in the manga verse). It's something he was not proud of and wants to rectify. It's why he starts at the local competition level, building to a regional, national, and then worldwide level. I imagine he meets many friends and rivals during his climb to the top (things I'd love to explore btw. Capsule Monsters OCs anyone?). Eventually he wins the world championship tournament (that I imagine KC-sponsored) and gains the title of Capsule King that he defends fiercely for years to come.
Game Tech Developer (Anime / Manga)
Considering his own gaming love and having his brother as a role model / inspiration, it's only natural Mokuba would want to try a hand at his own projects. The three ideas I currently have for projects he'd work on would have to do with something with Capsule Monsters Chess, a VR game similar to the Legendary Hero’s one from that arc, and a sorta triple hybrid game combining elements from Capsule Monsters Chess, Duel Monsters, and Buddyfight (his top 3 favs). These would be ideas he cooks up or makes prototypes or blueprints for all on his own without any help from anyone.
It would be a testament of Mokuba's growth in his own skills, and that he truly is capable of doing something on his own, proving assumptions or insults people (such as his stepfather) have made about him over the years were wrong. And it could become his full time role at Kaiba Corp depending on how things go as well.
Head Of Kaibaland (Anime / Manga)
Kaibaland is just as much Mokuba's dream as it is Seto’s, and he's had a big hand in it since its creation. Not only in terms of proposing ideas but also creating ride and merch concepts, testing rides, and reviewing guest satisfaction and feedback surveys. So it’s only fitting he’d move up as the leading figure for Kaiba Land when he’s old enough and ready. He takes the position very seriously, more so than anything he’s ever done. This is his and Seto’s dream. He can’t mess it up.
Such a change in role might require either frequent business trips overseas or relocation altogether, depending on things (anime or manga storyline, other plotting details, etc.). Whatever the case may be, I imagine in his role he’d be a very hands on figure. He’d want to oversee every aspect, from the big picture to the finest details. His creativity I can see leading the brand to new places and directions, perhaps even expanding into other related hospitality or destination realms such as cruising. He’d also add more variety of content into the parks with collaborations from other places and IP, such as perhaps collabing with Suzuha on a Buddyfight related attraction.
Mokuba would also definitely still collaborate with his bro or seek his opinion on things. This is still their dream, after all. Being in charge wouldn’t change that for him I think. Besides, if there if one thing Mokuba loves, it’s working with his bro on something they both care about.
Duel Academia Inspector (Anime)
Considering Duel Academia is one of his brother's most important post-anime verse developments, it's only fitting that Mokuba would have a part to play. While he would be too old to attend as a student or too busy / not qualified to be a faculty member, I like to imagine he plays the role of an inspector, coming to the school on occasion to see how things are running and report back to his bro.
He certainly has his own opinions about certain things he sees (like the school having no prom is an outrage) and he’ll make them known to the staff and the students. He’ll even pitch in to incorporate changes if needed. Like the Slifer Red Dorm? He’d so want that to be upgraded.
During these visits Mokuba will also be on the lookout for potential candidates both for KC but also to sponsor for the pro league. He has a good eye for talent so he def takes the chance to try and scout when he can.
Creator of Riding Duels As A Concept (Anime)
It was never stated who was the specific creative mind behind Riding Duels creation. We only know it was Kaiba Corp’s doing. The idea of ‘card games on motorcycles’ seems like something to me a creative genius like Mokuba would come up, combining two types of popular competitive sports (dueling and racing) into one experience.
Do I think it was realized in his lifetime? Probably not since I bet by 5D’s Mokuba is either retired or has passed on. But I do think it’s an idea that he has made and possibly would share with his bro that probably wasn’t fit for the current market but was revisited down the line.
So while he probably didn’t design the mechanics or the way the tech works, I do think the core idea was his that was later expanded upon. Like the image of his big bro riding a motorcycle with Blue-Eyes flying above is something he’d totally imagine and think: “Huh. I could be onto something.”
Family Man / Best Uncle Ever (Anime / Manga)
Now, while I currently do not have any romantic ships for my Mokuba (something I am open to discussing, as I am with romantic ships in general), I am 1000% convinced he will one day find a partner and get married, much more likely than his brother. Whether he would have kids (or adopt a kid) is something I don't know yet (but I say it's more likely than not tbh), but regardless, he'd be the best uncle to both Seto's kids (if he ever had any) or any of his friend's kids. One for sure example is with his friend Gao's two sons: Yuga and Haru. He spoils those kids rotten and does all he can to be there for him. Same would go for any other kids of his friends or brother. He's so family-oriented that this makes natural sense for him.
So if you all got any next gen YGO babies (like the lovely @aorigashi, who Mokuba adores already just from our plotting sessions ), throw them at Mokuba cause this man was built to be an uncle, okay.
LET HIM LOVE YOUR BABIES!!!
Bonus: CEO of Kaiba Corp (Manga mainly but could be for anime)
This is a future possibility I’ll tell you all Mokuba doesn’t want (he was not happy I decided to put this on this post I'm just saying). He wouldn’t ever want to take his brother’s position. He knows how much he’s built his life around it and how important it is to him. The only way he’d ever take it is if he had no choice…which would only be one thing really: If Seto died.
If his brother died before his time, such as because of his actions in DSOD for example, he’d of course take the role in his brother’s stead. And by that I mean he’d make it his whole life. He’d do all he could to be a stand-in for his brother. He would start to talk like him, dress like him, and adopt any of his habits. He would, in this essence, cease being himself, which is a future that I’d argue would be the worst for him out of any possibility. After all, what’s the point of being ‘Mokuba’ without Seto around.
This concept is the basis for an au idea I have, actually, and I’d be down to explore it if anyone’s down despite the angst fest it be.
#💎 Vice Treasure (Mokuba Kaiba)#💎 Vice's Glimmers And Glitz (Mokuba Headcanons)#💎 Vice's Dark Side Story (Mokuba DSOD Verse)#💎 Vice's Treasured Future (Mokuba Post Main Verse)#tw long post#tw mention of death#tw grief#(AND HERE IS THE MOKIE FUTURE IDEAS POST!#(Happy how this turned out!

I am so frustrated with KC’s refusal to act with the Harkles. When he was wishing them well overseas, he should have made it clear that they will never return as working royals but he hopes that together they can take steps to reconciling as a family. We then wouldn’t have this will they won’t they every few weeks which is tiresome and makes this a soap opera and detracts from the good work of the actual RF.
On a separate note, part of me feels that I don’t care how much Meghan postures and tries to either be an independent ’global icon’ or back in the RF, the reality is nobody of substance is actually interested in her. They are only interested in her being a ‘link’ to the real royals and that reality stings. I mean just thinking, if Meghan landed a major deal, let’s say Dior, they would stand on her head if they thought they could get William or Catherine. So I’m mildly satisfied in that knowledge. 🙃
Maybe Charles wants the soap opera, it helps distract from the fact that since becoming King all he has done so far for his country is plan a party and a wedding.

yey about the draft thing! (I never understood it anyway and I don’t watch nwsl but it looks like fans are happy about it 👍😅)
very yay!!! i've been reading about the cba all day so i'll explain a bit if anyone's curious ⬇️
the draft is a very american sports thing -- when players decide to go pro out of high school or college (which are very established here rather than academies and reserve teams), they make themselves available for the draft and the worst performing teams in the pro league each season will get the first draft picks so they essentially get the best new players, which is supposed to maintain parity btwn teams and avoid the teams with the most money or pull hoarding all the best rookies
it was integrated into the nwsl pretty much by default -- but as it turns out doesn't work as smoothly for how global of a sport soccer is (clubs have a way bigger pool of overseas players to buy from than other american sports so they don't rely on the draft for new talent) and also takes a lot of agency away from young players. lots of reasons and lots of debate on both sides of it. that's the college draft but what's also been eliminated is the expansion draft, which was when a new team was created they got their free pick of available players (not limited to just rookies) to give them a fair shot, but at the expense of the players who suddenly got traded and had to uproot their lives (among other potential dangers in a post-roe v wade world and with the history of bad actors in women's sports). it sounds good for new teams in theory but in practice it never really works out anyway (just look at utah royals' place on the table lol)
anyway the elimination of the draft is just one part of the cba that was announced today and i really recommend looking into it if this kind of thing interests you! the nwslpa (players' union) secured lots of player protections, much higher salary caps and minimums, guaranteed contracts (i.e. if you get injured or smth, which we know happens a lot in woso these days, you'll still get paid your full salary no matter what), extra bonuses for end of season awards, charter flights (the usa is huge you gotta fly), players' consent is FINALLY required for trades, free agency for all, parental leave and childcare, mental health services, etc etc
and a lot of the same workplace protections will also apply to front office staff and everyone who works behind the scenes at clubs and within the league so it's genuinely a huge step in the right direction for making women's sports leagues truly professional and safe working environments, and also not being afraid to diverge from the model of major men's leagues 👌
of course there's always progress to be made and the elimination of the draft will def come with a learning curve, but this has all been a long time coming and a lot of past nwsl players suffered and were put in a lot of precarious positions that future players will hopefully never even dream of happening to them now 👍
and last thing i promise: i remember answering an ask about kc current having lucy's discovery rights, meaning if she wanted to go to the nwsl she'd have to sign with them or they'd make bank if another team wanted her. that's been eliminated as well so i believe she's a free bird if she ever comes here!

A mother and daughter who were caught sending cash to a terrorist relative in Syria through a mule in Uganda have been jailed.
Stella Oyella, 53, and Vanessa Atim, 32, sent more than £1,800 to Joseph Ogaba, who left the UK to join Islamic State (IS) in Syria in 2014.
Oyella and Atim, both from east London, knew that the money was funding Ogaba’s terrorist activities, police said.
Investigators found the pair had attempted to cover their tracks by sending the money through contacts in Uganda and the Middle East.
Oyella and Atim – Oyella’s brother and Atim’s uncle – were jailed for three years and three years and nine months respectively on Monday, having been convicted of terrorist fundraising after a Met Counter Terrorism Command investigation which was supported by Syrian authorities.
Commander Dominic Murphy, who leads the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “These women went to great lengths to first arrange, and then distance themselves from money transfers to Ogaba. They knew he had travelled to Syria to join a terrorist group and by sending him cash, they helped him remain with IS.
“This case shows how we work with our international partners to close the net on people who support terrorist activity, no matter how much time has passed.”
‘You turned a blind eye to what he was engaged in’
At the sentencing Judge Mark Dennis KC, sitting at the Old Bailey, said the women were not motivated by IS’s extremist beliefs but wanted to help Ogaba who was manipulating their close family bond as he said he was “desperate” for money to cover his general expenses.
There is no evidence the money was used for weapons or the women, who are Roman Catholic and of previous good character, wanted to support terrorism.
But the horrors of IS was dominating the headlines and they should have been aware of what the devastation they brought, the judge said.
He told them: “You both turned a blind eye to what your brother and uncle was engaged in and in so doing you were in effect giving support for terrorist activity which in 2017 he was still associated with.
“However, taken that your motivation was not ideological or a desire to engage in such activities, you knew what you were doing was wrong and could get you into trouble.”
The money transferred was at a low level but the women should have known that Ogaba was a “committed individual” who had left his home and was prepared to support jihad, the court heard.
Ogaba left his home in north London and travelled to Syria, via Germany and Turkey in September 2014, with the Muslim convert leaving a note for his family stating that he was going to join IS.
Pictures of Ogaba with weapons were recovered
Atim was detained at Heathrow on March 12, 2018, and Gatwick Airport on December 12, 2018, under the Terrorism Act by port officers. On both occasions devices were seized and messaging app conversations with references to money transactions were recovered.
The significance of these conversations became clear in 2019 when detectives analysed a computer hard drive linked to Ogaba and recovered by Syrian authorities the previous year.
Investigators found scans of money transfer receipts, and the dates, times and the monetary sums of these transactions aligned with those discussed in the messages.
Pictures of Ogaba, including evidence of his activities with IS, and extremist content with images of weapons and explosive devices were also recovered.
Investigators established that between March and October 2017, Atim and Oyella arranged for the money to be collected in the UK before being transferred overseas – often first to someone in Uganda. It would then be sent to contacts in the Middle East who would pass the cash onto Ogaba.
Oyella and Atim were interviewed by counter terrorism officers in June and December 2021 respectively, and charged on October 11 2022. They were found guilty of terrorist fundraising after a trial at the Old Bailey which concluded on 20 December 2023.
Syrian authorities reported that Ogaba had died while in prison, following his capture by Syrian Defence Forces in July 2022.

Do you have any thoughts on the California song that leaked a while back? I haven’t seen anyone post about that one but the lyrics are so interesting to me.
Hi anon - I have lots of thoughts and there were some posts when it leaked. Also, when it did Taylor left KC earlier than expected to LA and was not seen for a week.
California
It dates itself as written in LA during pandemic restrictions with ‘over ridden overseas’ and ‘stuck inside my summer home’. HH was largely written then as was Folklore/Evermore. All 3 are more Haylor than the works before with themes of reflecting on their lives and relationship.
He talks about this period at 22 mins of his Zane Lowe HH interview, he did nothing for 6 weeks, booked a studio and wrote late night talking and sushi then. Then he went to England/Italy and came back to LA. So it’s either written April or November 2020. Also to Zane Lowe, he said for Harry's House he did a lot more writing alone, (1:06) which I think California may be all him.
In terms of the song there are lots of references to flag it’s Taylor, skinny girl/shiny car, ‘it’s you who left a mark’ refers to This Love: “This love left a permanent mark, this love is glowing in the dark” she has a few references to marks in relation to him.
There are a few lyrics I’ll flag:
Kitten scratch - to me, LNT is Harry and Taylor talking by phone during the pandemic. The kitten scratch sounds like they may have met up, or perhaps he means a metaphor of pain caused by talking to her but HH is pretty warm
Hampstead Health in the summertime makes me think it was written after summer. He said to Zane that in that journey from Italy to the UK he thought about who he missed and his work/life balance. He the returned to LA to film DWD.
Summers death left to breath sounds like something ended and festered. While LNT and Sushi are the initial rush of speaking again California has mellowed to wanting to make room to cuddle and has resentment. I think it’s written closer to evermore/Coney Island than Folklore/The 1 & Exile.
Now… unpaid tab in shitty bar. They’re each worth 9 figures+ so that’s not literal, they’ve spent time together in the Bowery Hotel bar.
So after LNT in the March - May period. Harry returned to Europe and drove to Italy and back (20 hours each way) over the period Folklore was released. He said to Zane no one knew where he was. He did something similar in late 2018 in Japan.., after he wrote Falling. He wrote little freak and To be so lonely in that time period.
In November 2020 he returned to LA and started filming Don’t worry darling, it was in the media the day after the Long Pond Sessions were released. The long pond sessions was when it was announced Joe was William Bowery.
To me, California was possibly written in November 2020 in a post travel quarantine.

Speaking to the Daily Mail on Friday, a source said, “They have all talked about seeing some of Taylor’s shows overseas after the season, and since KC has a game on Christmas, they will all hang out in the stadium with family and friends afterward.”
Cool if true!
