VOICE-OVER (“VO”) – It was January 2007. Our first Guerilla Date attempt failed. The person who set a Guerilla Date record for an unprecedented reshoot is none other than Lee Joon-Gi.

LEE JOON GI (“JG”) – Ah, I am about to make a second attempt at Guerilla Date.

VO – Lee Joon-Gi is a man with guts. Furthermore, we are about to have this Guerilla Date Joongi-style through and through.

JG – Honestly, I am having trouble choosing a place. So I want to think this through, every detail of it. I am still thinking and it gives me a headache. Which place would be best?

VO – So the place he chose was, again, Myeongdong. Lee Joon-Gi’s Guerilla Date Season Two. Stay tuned.

JG – Hello. Welcome. Everyone’s favorite show, Entertainment Weekly’s Guerilla Date! The guest star of the day is, yes, it’s me, Lee Joon-Gi. (*encouraging applause*) Welcome. Now let me introduce our host who represents Entertainment Weekly: Kim Saeng-Min.

KIM SAENG-MIN (“K”) – Hi.

JG - It’s good to have you here.

VO – I was really happy to be there.

K – You holding this – totally looked the part as host. So we are having Guerilla Date for the first time in two years. You look manlier now than last time I saw you.

JG – Do I really? Thank you. I love to hear that kind of compliment.

K – Let’s get our Guerilla Date started. Wait a second. (The Filipino Woman: He is really handsome) Where are you from? (Filipino Woman: I’m from the Philippines) Ah, you’re from the Philippines. Anything you want to say to Joon-Gi?

VO – How happy she must have been with this unexpected encounter with a star.

(The woman keeps gushing)

K – What are you saying? I don’t understand.

JG – She’s saying “You are really handsome. I love you.”

K – I will give you the present you will never forget. Hug him!

VO – How happy she must have felt. She’s from the Philippines.

K – Ma’am, come over here.

VO – This time, we met a middle-aged woman.

K – Do you know Lee Joon-Gi? Where have you seen him?

Japanese Woman – I’m Japanese.

VO – She’s from Japan.

K – Do you love Joon-Gi?

Japanese Woman – Yes, very much. Daisuki (I love you) Iljimae!

JG – Thank you very much.

K – Iljimae. Iljimae! Take a photo with him. Link arms with him.  Three, two, one.

VO – She loved it so much we couldn’t just let her go. We took a photo with Joon-Gi’s Japanese fan. With a tight hug. Lee Joon-Gi showed his gratitude.

K – Which work of yours is so well known in Japan… I mean in the Philippines?

(Caption – His entire body of work is well known throughout Asia.)

JG – All of my work is pretty well loved across, at least, Asia. Several works of mine have been seen there. Can’t really pick just a couple.

VO – It [fanfare] was far from over.

Singaporean Man – Iljimae, My Girl.

VO – Following the Japanese and Filipino fans, these men are from…

Men – Singapore, Singapore. Malaysia.

JG – Welcome to Korea.

JG – Now, let us look natural and pose for a photo.

VO – Lee Joon-Gi’s popularity literally transcends gender, age, and national boundaries.

JG – Here you really have so many people from different countries. Wow…

VO – Last August, he was appointed as honorary ambassador for Korean Tourism.

JG – Great honor for sure. For a long time I have wanted to help promote Korea. Finally, I was given an opportunity to do so.  

K – Folks, let us make a video with Lee Joon-Gi to promote Korea…

VO – So we decided to make a quick PR video with Lee Joon-Gi to promote Korea.

K – So when Lee Joon-Gi says “Visit Korea” at the end, then you repeat “Visit Korea” too, Okay?

JG – Korea has people with bright smiles; a variety of things to see; and delicious foods. Visit Korea.

VO – Did I (Kim Saeng-Min) look awkward?

[CAFÉ]

K – So you took a one-year break.

JG – Yes, exactly one year. First of all, I put all my energy into working on Iljimae last year and I was so exhausted. I would have looked like falling far too short if I had just moved onto a new project, when I was still not ready and not feeling recharged. So I thought, ‘If I am taking a long break, then I will use the time to study people, study acting, and fill my life with something. So instead [of a new project] I found something different – I planned something called “fan concert.”

K / VO – The fan concert that Lee Joon-Gi planned himself for his fans is a concert-style fan meet that combines singing, of course, and dance performances and other events that fans have never seen before. Can you feel Lee Joon-Gi’s love for fans? What an effort, attempt to do something different that’s worthy of note.

JG – At least on the stage, if I can have an outlet to release things inside of me and really express things—then I can also get energy from the audience and feel a lot of things. I think this is one way to learn things. I’m still young, but I have been called so-called “star” a lot. As I have become well known to a lot of people and loved by many people, I ended up living a sort of secluded life. I still have so many years left to live and there are so many things I have yet to experience. But there are a lot of limits to what I can do with my life. Even if I try to study people, as long as I am not able to see people in person, I can no longer learn anything. I want to meet a lot of people and feel a lot of emotions. That is, I think, the primary purpose of holding this fan concert. I just want to meet a lot of people.

K – Lots of people find your eyes very attractive. But your eyes may look small, depending on how you look at them.

JG – Very small. Some of my friends did not like them. They didn’t like my eyes as well as…. I mean, the biggest problem was that back in school, seniors [seonbae] did not like me at all because of my eyes.

K – Why not?

JG – They thought my eyes made me look disrespectful to them. They made me look a bit spiteful. So I had an inferiority complex because of my eyes. But [after becoming an actor] I was surprised to find people like me more because of my eyes. So I am glad I became an actor. Had I chosen a different profession, I might not be the kind of person loved by people. I see now that when I am acting, my eyes widen along the length of the eye and even I find them very refreshing.

K – So you are coming back with a KBS drama.

JG – No, it’s not on KBS.

K – Sorry, sorry.

JG – I’m sorry, I will make sure to do a drama with KBS next time.

K – You should. So when are you going to do a drama on KBS?

JG – Really, there were a few occasions that I was close to doing a KBS drama.

VO – Well, we hope that will happen soon.

JG – I want to repay people for this huge love they have given me. To do so, I will behave responsibly and live an exemplary life as a star and an actor. So be on the lookout and please always support me. Be happy. Thank you.

K – So you wanted to promote Korea, “the country of courtesy in the East.” Then why don’t we do the “naval bow” greetings? Thank you for joining me today.

JG – (Correcting his pose) This is not right.

K – Thank you.
