I love this man sm..
kaveh x reader, platonic fluff <3
hints of kavetham and the end
You and Kaveh known eachother since you were little.
"Kaveh, You need to stop thinking about Alhaitam. I know it's hard, but you need to atleast try to get on good terms with him."
"[Name], I have been trying! He just makes it hard." Kaveh huffed, taking a sip of his wine.
"He just wants a reaction from you. Don't let him into your head. Uhm, how about we find something better to do! What do you usually do in your freetime?"
"Drink," Kaveh simply answered, looking at you like you should've known that.
"Wow. You surely are a happy person. Oh! I have an idea, is Tighnari doing anything? We could talk with him for some advice."
"No. I just wanna spend time with you..." Kaveh said the last few words quietly, as if he didn't want you to hear.
Lucky you, you heard exactly what he said, it made you feel special, really special.
"Come on then, I have just a place."
"Wait [Name], you heard that?!" Kaveh turned completely red, quivering in his words.
"Don't be embarrassed, It was nice of you." You grabbed his hand, leaving the tavern.
"Where are we even going..?" Kaveh grumbled.
"That would ruin it! Lighten up a little," You smiled at him. That right moment Kaveh felt extremely warm, tightening his hold on your hand.
You both traveled all the way to Mawtiyima Forest, when you reached your destination, upon a tall blue mushroom, it was already sundown. Pink clouds in the sky and a beautiful sunset in sight.
"I always go here to calm my thoughts. Mawtiyima forest is so beautiful," You spoke, glancing at him.
Kaveh only nodded, he was focused on the sunset.
"Beautiful isn't it?" You smiled, resting your head on Kaveh's shoulder.
"Mhm." Kaveh breathed out, you finally succeeded on taking his mind on something else other than stress. And man, did that make you feel accomplished.
"You know, what if Alhaitam had a crush on you, Kaveh?" You suddenly blurted out.
"A–A crush?!? Your kidding, right? No way he would have a crush on me!" Kaveh was really defensive on the situation, making you grin.
"No, think about it. He lets you live in his house, pisses you off a lot, and any average person would assume your a married couple. Remember that one time when a married couple walked by and said you two acted like them? Funny times."
"H–Hey! We do not act like a married couple!"
"Uhuh." You smirked at him, poking his forehead.
"I- Maybe he does.."
"That's the spirit." You hugged him tightly, he hugged you back harder.
"Thank you, [Name]."
"The hell are you thanking me for?"

“𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐀 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊!” — feat. kaveh & reader !
synopsis. kaveh is not having a great week. luckily, he has a best friend to distract him.
✦ contents. platonic! they are friends! best friends! modern au (they're still in university though.) some sumeru character cameos. gn!reader. fluff. 3.1k words.
✦ notes. this is my secret santa gift for.... @tragedy-of-commons! merry christmas gwen, i hope you enjoy!!! i did my best to make this as silly and fun as possible :"))
“Wow... you look even worse than I left you.”
Kaveh groaned, squeezing his eyes shut. The desk was cold under his forehead, a sweet relief from the headache pounding behind his eyes. Maybe he could lay there a little while longer, languishing in his misery, and you would lose interest and leave him. Maybe...
“Hey! Don't fall asleep on me!”
Alas, such mercy would never find him. If your voice—far too loud for a library, he would say—wasn't already enough to disturb his brooding, then the rolled up paper in your hands definitely did the job.
“Ouch,” He mumbled, rubbing the back of his head. “Leave me 'lone...”
“Nope, not a chance.” You slip into the seat directly across him, your chin resting on the palm of your hand. “So, how much progress has been made?”
“I'm at about—” Kaveh sat up wearily, sifting through his scattered papers. “—21%.”
“Weren't you at 30% an hour ago?” You blinked.
“Yes.”
“Oh, Kaveh—”
“I'm fine, I just need... some time.” Kaveh gritted out, scanning the dozens of failed designs and hastily written notes. “And... and some inspiration. And maybe some coffee too.”
“And some sleep?”
“Are you kidding?” He scoffed, as he gathered the papers into a neat pile. “I can't sleep now. I need to get this project done, or else I'm failing this class. I can't afford a fail right now, this is making up 50% of my grade, and I only scored an 85 on the written exam, and my draft is due in a week and—”
A smack in the middle of his forehead snapped him out of his rambling. Kaveh reeled back, nursing the faint sting, as you re-rolled the paper in your hand.
“What was that for!” He cried.
“You can't keep wallowing, you're never going to get anything done! It's about time you took a break.” Carefully, you unroll the paper you were holding, to reveal a colourful poster. “And I know exactly what we can do!”
Kaveh squints at the flyer. It looked to be hand-drawn and photocopied, depicting a bustling market with smiling visitors holding mouth-watering food and bags stuffed with souvenirs. Across the top, the text read: Come visit Sumeru's Fair!
“A fair...” Kaveh murmured, reading the fine text. “This says it's only open the last week of December.”
You paused, shooting him a suspicious look. “Kaveh, do you know what day it is?”
“Uh... December... something?” He guessed.
“Well—Well, yeah.” You huffed, snatching the poster back to wave in his face. “The point is, you need some time to clear your head, and I don't want to go alone. So...?”
-----
By some miracle, your persuasion (and Kaveh's weak will towards anything you try to convince him to do) is effective enough to leave his project behind. The gates are swarming with people when you arrive, a few familiar faces sticking through the crowd, along with dozens of families and couples enjoying the festivities.
“Two tickets, please!” You grinned, handing over some money to the salesperson before Kaveh could even offer to pay for his own. The tired-looking employee hands over the tickets, and you grab Kaveh's hand to drag him towards the entrance. “Thank you!”
As soon as you step through, there is a rainbow of colours filling his vision. Brightly coloured stalls are set up with carnival games, food, and other attractions on either side, forming an aisle. Behind them, he could see a Ferris Wheel peeking out over the tents, as well as some other rides he couldn't quite make out.
“What should we do first?” You asked excitedly, scanning your surroundings.
“Wasn't this your idea?” Kaveh raised an eyebrow. “Shouldn't I be asking you that?”
“Ever heard of living in the moment?” You chided, looping your arm through his to lead him forward. “Do you have money?”
Kaveh rolled his eyes, allowing himself to be pulled along. “Do you think I—”
“No, you're broke, I don't know why I asked. Okay, I have some money. Enough for a few rides and some food, at least.” You paused to take a breath, glancing over to a stall on your left. “Woah, look at that!”
Kaveh followed your gaze, to a small stand set up with a simple throwing game. There were a few old cans stacked up, and a grinning attendant looking back at the two of them with a beanbag in his hand. That wasn't what caught your attention though. No, your eyes were firmly fixed on the stuffed animal hanging at the back of the stall, dangling just out of reach like Tantalus' fruit.
“It's a peacock!” You gasped, hand reaching out as if to try and touch the plush feathers sewn into its tail. For a carnival prize, it was remarkably well-made, and utterly adorable; there was no wonder you looked entranced by it.
“Something you like?” The attendant crooned. He tossed the beanbag from hand to hand, casually throwing it in the air and catching it again. “You get three tries, knock all six cans over and pick whatever prize you want.”
Kaveh squinted at the cans. It looked easy, deceptively easy. The beanbag was soft, but appeared to be sturdy enough to knock the cans down in one go, and yet none of the prizes had been won yet. The entire game seemed fishy, but the prospect of the peacock plushie in your hands was enough to distract you. Before he could even voice his skepticism, you had bought three tries.
“Here you go,” The man behind the booth tossed you three beanbags and stepped out of the way as you lined up your throw. The first hit one of the cans squarely in the middle, but bounced right off.
“Argh!” You gritted your teeth and aimed again, as Kaveh's frown deepened.
The second throw was heavier, and hit one of the middle cans, dislodging the structure but failing to knock it down.
“Last go! Good luck.” The man laughed brightly, and you scowled. You threw the beanbag one last time, knocking the can at the very top over with the sheer force of your throw. “Nicely done! Let me get your prize.”
Your eyes lit up in anticipation, before he handed you a dusty pack of cards, the flimsy kind you would find in a discount store. “Oh... is that it?”
“Try knocking them all over, if you want something better.” He chuckled. “Unless you wanted to try again...?”
You thought about it for a moment, considering the obvious baiting versus how badly you wanted that prize. You nodded, and Kaveh sighed.
This time though, he paid attention.
The way that the cans moved when you hit them was odd. Hitting either in the center row, or the middle one in the bottom row didn't shake it enough to move much at all, but the top can knocked over easily. If he had to guess, they were weighted differently to make the structure more stable, and much harder to topple. The closest you got to tipping over any of them was when one of your beanbags hit the one on the far left, moving it slightly out of place.
Interesting.
“Ugh, this is impossible,” You groaned, after wasting another three tries.
“You're getting better each time!” The attendant said, while he fixed the can that was askew.
“Let me try.” Kaveh cut in. He handed over some of the little money he'd brought with him, and took the offered bean bags.
“Good luck,” You told him ruefully. Kaveh took a deep breath, steeling himself. His aim wasn't terrible, but with the game being as obviously rigged as it was, he wasn't certain he'd be able to hit it.
The first throw, he hit the corner can directly in the middle, just hard enough to push it backwards slightly. It didn't topple the structure, but after zeroing in on the weakest link, knocking it down would be easy.
The second throw was slightly short, only hitting the side of the can. It moved it, causing the stack to wobble, but did little to actually achieve his goal of making it fall over.
Finally, he lined up his last throw. This was it, his last chance. With all his force, he hurled the beanbag at the tower of cans, hitting the corner squarely and pushing it right over. Without the bottom to support it, the second and third layer fell down, knocking over the other cans as well.
“You did it!” You cheered, squeezing Kaveh in a quick hug.
“Congratulations!” The man said, fishing behind the counter for something. “Here you go.”
In his hands was an ugly stuffed bear, with fluorescent pink fur and beady black eyes. He held it out like it was a diamond ring, grinning at Kaveh with finality.
“Oh... but didn't you say if I knocked down six cans I could choose whatever one I wanted?” Kaveh asked, wondering if he misheard the man. He nodded towards the plush you were eyeing. “I actually wanted the peacock over there.”
“Well, see, you have to knock them down in one try if you want the big prize.” The attendant scoffed. “Or else it doesn't count.”
“You didn't say that!” You protested. “You only said knock three cans down.”
“And I did knock them down in one try,” Kaveh argued. “On my last try, they all fell down at once.”
“It has to be your first one, boy.”
“You didn't say that either!” You threw your hands up in frustration, voice reaching a shout.
“Fine.” Kaveh snatched the ugly looking bear, and shoved it at you. He dug around for his wallet, slapping the last of his money on the counter.
“You already won a bear, don't you want to let someone else have a turn?” The attendant protested. Sure enough, there was a small line of people waiting for their turn. Still, Kaveh shook his head.
“One more turn, and I leave.”
The man, perhaps hoping to make him leave quicker, or perhaps just interested in more of his money, handed him some more beanbags with a grumble. He turned around to set up the cans again, arranging them into another pyramid.
Kaveh watched him carefully, noting the way he paused before placing down each can, clearly feeling the weight of each. He noted the way the man was sure to place the slightly lighter can on the other corner, probably hoping that Kaveh would aim for the same one and fail to knock it over.
“Hit it as hard as you can,” You whispered to him, once he was done. “Picture it as something you hate, and hit it with everything you've got.”
Kaveh squinted at the cans. Something he hated...
Nothing immediately came to mind. Perhaps his roommate, who had a personality as enjoyable as a rainy, downcast day. Maybe that engineering professor who marked him down for a tiny spelling mistake. Or even the attendant glowering back at him as he waited for his throw.
Of course, he could always picture that project he was working on, the one that cost him far too many days and nights and still remained unfinished. As he stared at the rusty metal, all he could see was the crossed out sketches and scribbled notes, all a mess that he couldn't decipher. They taunted him; a monument to his failures and shortcomings, a reminder of the progress that he has yet to make—
Without thinking, he reeled back his arm and hurled the beanbag as hard as he could, slamming it into the can. The entire tower toppled over, cans falling from the table onto the floor.
“Yeah! That's my best friend!” You yelled, pumping your fist in the air.
Kaveh tried not to look smug, but a wide grin was already spreading across his face. “The peacock, please.”
The stuffed animal was reluctantly taken down and handed over to him, before he passed it to you.
“There. Consider it my thanks for the ticket,” Kaveh said proudly.
“Thank you,” You smiled down at the peacock, running your hand through the soft tail feathers. “I love it.”
-----
After a few more games with far less luck, the pair of you stopped by the food stalls to get something to eat. There was a wide variety, with some fried foods, some sweet snacks, even a stand selling freshly squeezed lemonade.
You settled on a stall selling pita pockets, and Kaveh had no objections. The smell alone was enough to convince him to line up.
“Oh! Hi [Name], hi Kaveh!” A familiar voice chirped. Collei was stood at the counter, smiling widely.
“Collei, I didn't expect to see you here!” Kaveh greeted her warmly.
“It's my after-school job!” She explained. “I'm trying to earn some extra money for my treatment. I can't be dependent on Tighnari for everything, you know!”
Kaveh's smile faltered for just a moment. Collei's declining health wasn't a secret; there was a reason that her brother had to take care of her so much, but she was still so selfless, even with all of her struggles.
“Ah, I should have asked!” Collei jumped suddenly, scrambling to grab her notepad. “What can I get you today?”
“Just two pita pockets please,” You ordered. “And a water, too.”
“Coming right up!”
After getting your food, the two of you sat down to eat in a shady spot by the fence. The pita pockets were warm and fresh, the perfect thing to quell Kaveh's hunger. When was the last time he had a cooked meal, or any food that wasn't straight out of a vending machine? The focus on his project had stolen away all his attention, leaving him to neglect his own appetite.
“What's next?” You asked through a mouthful of bread, your words slightly muffled.
Kaveh hummed, surveying the rest of the fair. You had walked through most of the surroundings, leaving only a small section unexplored. That portion happened to be the part with all of the rides, where the Ferris Wheel loomed over the food stalls.
“How about the Ferris Wheel?” Kaveh suggested.
Your eyes lit up again, and you jumped to your feet. “Yes! Let's go!”
-----
In hindsight, you should have expected the line, but neither of you even considered the possibility until you were stuck in the middle of it. It was cramped and uncomfortable; the overwhelming crowds were almost enough to deter you. Almost.
“This is taking forever.” You groaned, slumping against Kaveh.
“Have a little patience.” Kaveh sighed, even as his own patience was wearing thin.
Directly in front was an irritated boy with a bowlcut who Kaveh was certain was in one of his classes, accompanied by a young white-haired girl holding his sleeve. Ahead of them, there was a family of four, several couples, another group of friends, and many more waiting for their turn.
It was going to be a long time before they even saw the ticket booth, let alone made it on the Ferris Wheel.
“Oh my, [Name]! Is that you?” A sweet voice called out to you.
You turned to see Nilou, a cheerful girl and another student at your university, waving to catch your attention as she walked over.
“Oh, hi!” You greeted. “How are you?”
“I'm good! I came with Dehya instead, and it's been a wonderful day.” She smiled back, smoothing down the front of her dress.
“That's good. We're just—” You jerked your head to motion towards the line. “—Waiting, as you can tell.”
“Ah, I see. Well, I'm glad you ended up coming, even if you didn't come with me. Isn't it wonderful?” Nilou gushed.
You nodded, with a slightly strained smile. Kaveh noticed the change instantly, studying your expression with a frown. “Yeah, it is.”
“I'd better go, Dehya is waiting for me. Take care, [Name]!” Nilou gave you a brief side-hug, before waving goodbye and dashing off.
“I didn't know you were friends with Nilou.” Kaveh said as soon as she left.
“Yeah, she's a classmate.” You said simply, leaving it at that.
After some time, you managed to make it into the compartment and on the Ferris Wheel. Kaveh sat across from you, pulling his legs close so you had more room to get comfortable, and your peacock plushie rested on your lap. The entire box was filled with windows, giving you a full view of the fair as it rose into the air.
“Woah... you can see everything up here.” As the box began to dip back down, your head swiveled to see as much of the area as possible.
“It's amazing... everything looks so small.” Kaveh breathed, as you hummed in agreement.
The two of you lapsed into a comfortable silence, simply basking in each other's company as you observed the landscape below. There wasn't a need for awkward small talk or idle conversation to fill the space between you; you were happy to just exist with each other for a moment.
“There's one thing I don't get.” Kaveh said suddenly. You looked away from the window with a curious expression, silently waiting for him to elaborate. “You said you didn't have anyone to go here with, but Nilou implied she already asked you and you turned her down. Why is that?”
“Oh. Yeah. I lied.” You shrugged, turning back to watch the Ferris Wheel move upwards.
“Why would you lie?” Kaveh spluttered at your nonchalant response.
You made a noncommittal noise, shrugging again. “Nilou could find someone else to go with. I wanted to go with you.”
He stumbled over his words, trying to get out a coherent response. “But—But why?”
“Do I need a reason?” You laughed, bright and clear. “You're my best friend. And besides, you needed a break. I haven't seen you this relaxed in a week.”
Kaveh fell silent. You had a point, he hadn't felt as relaxed in a while. In fact, he had barely given all of his stresses a thought, since you dragged him to the fair.
You always had that way with him, able to pull him out of his own head and get him back on his feet. Ever since you became friends, you were the ray of sunshine peeking through the clouds and bringing light to even his most dull days.
Maybe that was the foundation of your relationship, all the times you had seen each other at rock bottom, and still stuck around to bring the other back to the surface for air. He'd been witness to many of your own late-night breakdowns over failed assignments and miserable group projects, but he would never dream of leaving you to deal with it on your own.
It was you and him, against the world. As close as two friends could be, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
“What would I do without you?” Kaveh sighed, with a smile on his face. You looked back and grinned at him, the sunlight on your face making it look like you were glowing.
“No idea. But you're stuck with me now.”

Intense Concentration (Part 1)
Reactions to a reader who sticks their tongue out when concentrating intently on something.
Featuring: Ayato, Kaveh, Neuvillette, Thoma, Yae Miko, Zhongli
All platonic fluff!
Ayato finds it rather amusing. He won’t tell you, but you’ll find that he’s sneaking glances at you far more often than usual, hiding his smirk behind a gloved hand. After a while, he simply can’t help himself, and before you can react, he’s reached out and swiped the seal of an envelope over your protruding tongue so that he can close it. He won’t even make eye contact with you, acting as if it was an entirely sane and normal thing for him to do.
Kaveh mimics you. Not consciously, he doesn’t even process the fact that you’re doing it until all of a sudden he’s been doing it for ages while working on some diagram or other and now the tip of his tongue is all dry and he can’t quite figure out why. Once he’s finally savvy to it, he finds this habit of yours utterly adorable and will do it along with you on purpose just so that you match.
Neuvillette tries to disregard it, though he ends up failing rather spectacularly. He finds it super adorable, and recalls that Melusines will do the same thing. Once he’s drawn that parallel, he can’t seem to stop thinking about it, and may end up just looking over at you more often than not with a tiny smile on his face. He may eventually bring it up, but he’s sure to be polite about it and explains that he’s simply curious, not judgemental.
Thoma calls you out on it. Every. Single. Time. “Hey, put that thing away!” “I don’t think you’ll have much luck catching flies like that.” “You know, if you’ve been up to something mischievous, you’re obligated to let me know.” He seems to have infinite quips up his sleeve for this exact situation. He may occasionally stick his tongue out at you in return if he’s too busy or distracted to pull you up on it verbally.
Yae Miko thinks it’s weird, but also quite fascinating. She’s drawing all sorts of conclusions in her head, comparing you to different animals she’s caught with ‘blep’ expressions in the past. She’ll just watch you without a word and wait to see how long you might take to notice. If she starts to tire of this ‘game’, she may just reach out one finger to prod the tip of your tongue, then chuckle at your perplexed reaction.
Zhongli doesn’t really think much of it. He’s met plenty of people who do the exact same thing. Though he’s also a little bit fascinated by the reasoning behind why others do it. He may occasionally try it himself, though it may look a little unsettling thanks to his abnormally long forked tongue, and the fact that it tends to subconsciously flick about, much like it would when he’s scenting the air for danger in his more draconic form.

1k. (suggestive) misunderstandings, platonic. gn!reader.
“Why do you hate me so much?”
Of all the questions you expected Kaveh the Architect to ask you on what you had supposed to be a first date, this was not among them. Indeed, being the juxtaposing type of question you’d expect any sane suitor to ask, it was flabbergasting, and you could hardly think of a reply to combat this. Your jaw dropped and you peered into his ruby eyes, searching the jewels for a saving clue.
“You can be honest,” he continued bewilderingly. “That’s why I wanted to properly meet you for coffee. So that we could talk like adults.”
No, of all the questions you anticipated coming from someone who had asked you to meet for coffee “as soon as possible,” bringing “just yourself,” this was not among them. But maybe it should have been. The urgent nature of it all may have been a clear enough indicator, had you paid attention. A bit awkwardly you realized how far off your assumptions about this all had been. To think that you’d thought he was trying to get into your pants. Taking you on a date first like an adult. Not asking you to coffee just to talk like one.
Finding no answers in his eyes, you settled your gaze on your joe and pondered. Then at last, with much less certainty than you had intended, you responded, “I… don’t.”
“You don’t what?”
You met his eyes. “I don’t hate you, moron.”
Kaveh visibly bristled. This was how you had expected him to look after you’d turned down his supposed sexual interest as planned. “I don’t buy it. After the way that you talk to me, how you’ve turned down my project ideas, how you talk about me to other people…”
There was much for you to unpack here, but the last point caught your own sense of urgency. Your mug came down onto the table harder than you meant. “I don’t talk about you to other people. What do you mean, how I talk about you to other people?”
“You know.”
“I don’t. Where is this coming from? Kaveh, what the hell?”
He swallowed and spoke with seemingly great effort. “Alhaitham said… that you said… you can’t bear to be around me.”
“Kaveh.”
“Yes?”
“Alhaitham isn’t people. Alhaitham is person. A person who has been known to enjoy messing with you.”
He hesitated, and then declared, “A lot of the stuff he says is true. Even if it’s utterly uncalled for.” Kaveh looked anywhere but at you. “Sorry. I just…”
You looked him up and down. Here, you’d thought he was all of the things he wasn’t. And here he thought you were all of the things that you were not. You let a short laugh slip, and then quickly covered your smile with your knuckle.
He spoke feebly and towards the cafe aisle instead of you. “I’m taking this seriously. I don’t want you to hate me. Can’t we talk about it?”
Oh, it was sweet, and ironic, and delightful, and hilarious.
“Yes, Kaveh. Let’s talk about it.”
He glanced at you and quickly away again, nodding. His avoidance of eye contact made you feel a bit bad, but for only a second. You wanted to get the truth out before you made any attempt at comforting the poor soul.
“I don’t hate you,” you continued. “I don’t even dislike you. I like your company and I think you’re marvelous and creative. I think—and this is what I told Alhaitham—I think that if I spent too much time with you, I’d become more engaged myself, and I’m just not ready for that change in my life. Or I wasn’t. I was too comfortable with the status quo.” You paused to sip your bitter coffee, trying to figure out the words for the rest of it.
“But my projects,” he said, “my project ideas, the ones you refused to help with.”
“You wouldn’t want to do those with little old me,” you replied, simply and honestly.
“I really would.”
“No, Kaveh. You don’t understand. I’m not brilliant like you. I’m a materialist, a realist, a square-cut function-obsessed gadgeter. I don’t do pretty designs. I can’t contribute to—” You gestured as if his mind was splayed out as a galaxy of ideas before you. “—All that.”
He tilted his head, looking again keen and reactionary.
“And I’m sorry,” you finally said, “for how… for how blunt I can be. And I know I can be mean. I swear it’s just the way I talk, it’s not—”
He cut you off. “So I’m not the one you hate?”
“What do you…” It was your turn to cock your head.
“I mean…” He raised an eyebrow, not mockingly. “You’re just unhappy, aren’t you?”
You set your mug down and leaned your elbows onto the table. He looked intently back at you now. Like a friend. Like someone who cared about being hated by you, and someone who cared about you hating yourself.
You cleared your throat, grasping at the straws of a changed subject. “I thought this was gonna be a date, nitwit. Not a therapy session.”
“A date?” He looked horrified.
You laughed at his expression, feeling all sorts of relieved. “Good to know neither of us were looking for that.”
“Tell me: Why would I ask you on a date if I thought you hated me?”
“Oh, Kaveh.”
“That doesn’t make an inch of sense.”
“Speaking of inches. Are you sure you want those columns in that desert library design to be that thick? Why not just have a few more columns among the shelves?”
And as quickly as that, the fear and sensitivity in his face faded and was replaced by glowing defense of his idea.
The supposed date turned into a shrewd planning convention and you watched the remaining tension leak from his fingertips as he gestured at his invisible designs in the air. You thought, yes, this is why I can’t bear to be around him. He’s so bright and alive. It burns my eyes.
But you were alive too, thanks to the warm late-night caffeine. And thanks also, perhaps, to the feeling that the conversation you had avoided earlier might come around again, and that you didn’t mind that. You didn’t mind the idea of more conversations with Kaveh.
author's note. i don't know, guys, i think i'm obsessed with being this guy's friend. and... yeah, this is sort of a vomit of words about how easily social signals are misinterpreted, especially when you're ANTISOCIAL like me. i'm fine though. do not worry.

Dancing With Visions - Beyond Relieving - Ballroom Samba - Kaveh
Author Notes: I had a fair bit of fun writing this one, though I admit it was difficult researching the ballroom samba and writing Kaveh for the first time was an adventure. I think Kaveh would be fun to dance with though, and he'd definitely strikes me as someone who be willing to learn to dance. I also wanted to be sure to mention that, despite how slender his in-game model is, I feel like he has to be strong since he's a claymore user. The performance in this fic was inspired by Kathryne and Ryan’s Samba to “Magalenha” by Sergio Mendes on season 6 of “So You Think You Can Dance with some samba rolls thrown in for funsies. Just like the rest of this series, reader is female. I hope you enjoy!
If you would like to read more of this series, the fics can be found here: Dancing with Visions Masterlist.
Type: Female reader/ dance/ fluff/ platonic or romantic/ sfw

Honestly, I knew from the instant that Kaveh had told me that he and Alhaitham were having a competition in which they had to dance whatever style was chosen by the other one that my friend would probably regret it. The fact that we were fixing to perform the samba only proved my suspicions.
In truth, it wasn’t that I didn’t think Kaveh would do poorly. In fact, I actually had quite a bit of faith in Kaveh even when we’d just started practicing. After all, Kaveh was someone who was open to new experiences and would definitely give this his best shot.
It was just that I genuinely feared what Alhaitham might whip out for his performance.
I glanced over at Kaveh, my hand locked in his, as we made our way onto the darkened platform that was Nilou’s stage. She’d agreed to let us use her stage for the guys competition for the cheap price of getting to watch the dances.
“Do you think you’ll win?” I questioned my partner quietly, a slight smile on my face to hide my nerves as he nodded. A determined expression on his face.
“Yeah. Alhaitham might be a genius when it comes to a lot, but he is no artist.” Kaveh smiled briefly, looking over my way with a confidence he usually didn’t possess as he straightened, “I’ve got the upper hand this time.”
I nodded, half proud of my partner, simply because I knew the amount of effort that had gone into this. After all, I’d been practicing alongside him this whole time.
And Kaveh had definitely regretted letting Alhaitham choose our dance when the scribe had calmly informed him we would be doing the samba without even batting an eye.
Especially since both me and Kaveh knew perfectly well that this style was chosen solely in recompense for Kaveh picking out a style of swing dancing for Alhaitham.
The samba was easily one of the more difficult Latin dance styles, simply due to the speed and intricate steps used within the dance. But, to be fair, Kaveh had also picked a difficult style for Alhaitham, so I could hardly blame the scribe for being a little mean in his choice of dance.
Save for the fact that his choice had meant that I also had to learn the samba since I’d already agreed to help Kaveh out. But then, I should’ve known that this was hardly going to be easy when it was Alhaitham and Kaveh who were competing with one another.
Kaveh smiled at me, squeezing my hand slightly as we came to a stop, almost like he knew that the nerves had already set in for me. And maybe he did, as he questioned me softly, “Ready?”
I nodded wordlessly, inhaling slightly, before I let go of his hand and shifted so that I was standing behind him, my hands resting lightly on his shoulders.
I watched as he looked off to the side and bobbed his head, signaling for Cyno to start the music, which started almost immediately.
I stepped to the side, reaching out and finding Kaveh’s hand ready and waiting as I slid around him. Pivoting so that I was facing him as I leaned backwards, doing my best to do as Nilou had advised and pretend I was a cat, slinking around.
The opening of our dance was all careful motions, with Kaveh holding my hand and spinning me slowly before I stepped over his outstretched leg. My arm wrapped loosely around his neck before I stretched up one leg. Leaning against him for support as he grabbed my foot and used it to spin me around him.
I slipped back to his side, looking towards him as I put my back to his chest and let him lift me.
I carefully slipped back around him. Practically laying against his back as I slid down him, and then between his legs before he stepped over me. Reaching down to take my hands and help me up just before we separated right as the beat hit.
It was one of pounding drums that had us quickly shaking our shoulders before I started sashaying to the side and away from him.
I had to remind myself to not hold my breath as I pushed myself to match the heavy beat as I moved around on the stage, shifting around him in a careful dance of keep-away before his hands clasped mine right as I faced him.
We rotated, our steps matching the beat perfectly, even as I started incorporating those little samba bounces that Nilou had grilled me on relentlessly until I’d perfected them.
Even when we’d just been practicing it, I’d felt like energetic was almost an understatement for describing this dance. But Kaveh somehow managed to smile at me as we shifted across the stage with quick but short steps filled with little bounces that involved lifting one leg in time to the beat before dropping it back down.
But perhaps what was worse than that was the shifting rhythm that we had to keep up with and match perfectly.
To top it all off, we spent most of our time apart, making it even harder to match each other. Only really coming together to do a few samba rolls, with my back pressed to his chest as one of his arms wrapped around my waist to hold me against him and his other hand grasped my wrist. Rotating with me as we leaned with the motions to create a rolling look.
I felt myself smiling through the dance even as we parted once more. And I could easily believe that this ballroom dance had indeed been inspired by a celebratory dance.
There was something about the bouncing motions that made one smile even as they strained to keep up with the lively, ever-shifting rhythm.
It was a dance that suited the empathetic Kaveh well and was bound to put a smile on his face. And it was nice to see him smiling once more after he’d been through so much. I’d honestly begun to worry about him, so seeing him enjoy his time learning to dance with me over the past little bit had been beyond relieving.
And though I didn’t know what the reward of winning his little competition with Alhaitham might be, for me, seeing Kaveh smile was enough. And knowing Alhaitham, that was possibly why he’d chosen the samba for Kaveh. A dance he could enjoy, even if he lost.
I forced myself to focus as Kaveh turned, grinning from ear to ear, and held out his hands to me. Sending me running a little ways across the stage to where he was.
He grabbed my hands right as I put on the brakes, letting myself slide across the stage only for him to tug me lightly. Causing me to whip around so that I was looking towards the floor as he pulled me back upright.
And immediately he was guiding me around him so that he could spin me in front of him, direct me back around behind him, and then let me go.
But he didn’t stay far from me, as he matched my light, bouncy steps and followed along behind me.
I found myself looking over my shoulder with my arm extended, finding him there, ready and waiting as he took back hold of me and I danced backwards. Wrapping my arm around him as he spun so that we could turn together. Grinning all the while as we spiraled across the floor.
He let go of me with one arm, keeping a hold of my hand so that I could spin out and look towards those watching us.
Nilou’s eyes were bright from her seat next to Tighnari, who bobbed quietly to the music, a slight smile on his face as he watched us. And Alhaitham sat next to his partner, his arms crossed as he watched us with an unreadable expression.
I twirled back in, Kaveh’s arms looping under mine as he lifted me and spun. I let my legs swing out freely in front of us before my feet touched back down, and I leaned back. Almost like I was trying to sit down before I leapt up, with Kaveh propelling me forward with an ever-careful toss that had me bounding to my feet. Only adding to the energy of the dance.
He kept a hold of my hand all the while as we immediately launched into motion again, bouncing lightly on our toes and stepping from side to side.
It wasn’t long until we were coming to the end of our dance and facing each other with Kaveh rotating around me. Smiling at me as he made it back around behind me and I faced the crowd. Keeping up the steady footwork as the drums slowly started to fade.
Kaveh’s hands landed on my waist, and I braced, bending my knees before leaping, with him lifting at the same time as I jumped.
He let go and crouched right as I did a split mid-air, landing on his back with arms catching me in a piggyback position. Him leaned forward, and me with one arm wrapped around him Both of us panting as we were finally allowed to catch our breath at the end of our performance.
Nilou was the first on her feet, smiling at us widely and clapping with all her might as I started to laugh breathlessly. Half-surprised that we’d managed to successfully pull off our performance.
We’d succeeded numerous times during practice, but that had hardly been enough to quell my nerves when I’d known that doing the same motions in front of our friends would be far more difficult.
I heard Kaveh start laughing as well, leaning forward a slight bit more until he straightened, glancing at me over his shoulder as I carefully slid off his back.
It was almost laughable now to remember that I’d been worried about his ability to lift me and hold me up throughout the various motions of the dance. In reality, I should have known better since he fought with a claymore.
Despite his slender frame, Kaveh was actually quite a bit stronger than one might initially think, as he’d proved to me as we’d been learning this dance.
He reached back behind him, his warm hand finding mine almost immediately, before he pulled me up alongside him so we could bow together.
As we straightened he looked over at me, his red eyes glistened like fine jewels as he beamed at me, “I think Alhaitham will have a tough time beating us, don’t you?”
I nodded, worn out from having danced but elated from both the experience and getting to see him smile so carefreely, “I think so.”

how many geniuses does it take to realise his feelings aren’t just platonic? just one, but he needs to have some sense bonked into him certain architect [alhaitham x reader]
summary: alhaitham is oblivious to his feelings, kaveh smacks some sense into him
genre: fluff (no prns)
a/n: i love really intelligent men who are really dumb at feelings
dates between alhaitham and you were common.
… dates?
no, that’s what kaveh called alhaitham’s outings with you
and having to argue with tell kaveh time and time again that, no, the time you and him spend together is not ‘romantic’. it’s not a big deal and alhaitham doesn’t know why kaveh is making it one.
“why can’t you just admit that you have feelings for-”
“spending time with someone does not indicate romantic feelings.”
“then how come you don’t go out of your way to spend time with anyone else? how about all the times tighnari, cyno and i have invited you out with us, but you never seem to want to join- and you know what? more than half the times we have to drag you out with us! would it kill you to at least try and become more sociable? all i’m saying is that…” kaveh rambling at this point, and truthfully all alhaitham wants is this conversation to be concluded.
“i simply don’t feel like going.”
“oh, but you’ll join a certain someone instead…”
alhaitham could argue that he technically does spend time with people. at work that is. having to go to meetings and having to receive paperwork from scholars and akademiya students counts as social interaction, but kaveh states that no, he’s not spending his free time with them, so that doesn’t count.
kaveh could argue that, well, who else does he always gets dinner with on the weekends? who else does he get presents for? who else does he willing go out of his way to help with no gain on his behalf?
alhaitham thinks it’s silly. getting dinner with you has become a part of his routine at this point (but he does like to hear about what you have gotten up to during the week.)
and that jewellery set you took a liking too was a bit out of your price range (he thought the colour would look lovely on you).
or using his own library card to borrow a book from the akademiya’s library that you wanted to read wasn’t an issue to him (now that he thinks about it, he should write you an authorisation pass to be able to use the library...)
“so you both think the time you spend together isn’t romantic?”
kaveh think’s this is the most surprised he has ever seen alhaitham been - eyes wide open and with no response to try and rebuttal against kaveh’s point, he can’t help but give alhaitham a knowing smirk as a ‘gotcha’ moment.
… did you view the time you and him spent together as romantic? alhaitham has never thought about that. and if you do, why haven’t you confessed yet? you’ve known each other for a long time, are you just too nervous? too shy? too scared of being rejected? you didn’t seem nervous around him, and you definitely weren't shy and if you confessed, alhaitham thinks he wouldn’t reject you-
oh.
oh.
alhaitham knows he’s smart, but for him to come to that realisation so late, he can’t help but be a little embarrassed.
and when he thinks about it, logically his feelings for you does make sense.
who else leaves him random snacks with little motivational sticky notes in his office? (he really doesn’t do much hard work throughout the day, but he appreciates the gesture.)
who else always brings him back little trinkets from their commissions? (he had to clear out a drawer in his room to make space. and yes, he has even kept all the ‘cool’ rocks you’ve given him.)
who else is get’s visibly happy when he comes into view? (even when just passing by, you never fail to give him a cheery smile with an overly-enthusiastic wave.)
it’s you.
it’s always you.
and while he dreads to admit it, kaveh is right for once.
he does like you. a bit more than he thought he did.

Hello !! I wish u a happy Valentine's Day >< love it writing ;)
Can I request Best Friends with feelings Sumero boys(+wanderer) reacting to gn!reader being gifted here and there all day bc it's Valentine's day?
Thank u! U can ignore this if I don't want to write :)
Happy belated Valentine's Day! Hope everyone had a nice day celebrating with their loved ones, be it romantically or platonically<3 Characters Included: Tighnari; Cyno; Alhaitham; Kaveh; Wanderer Content: gender neutral reader; no established relationship; the boys are getting jealous; fluff; love confessions..?; not proofread yet Word count: 2,6k words Enjoy<3
Tighnari
he loves the fact that one of his closest friends actually works with him, which means that you can see each other on a regular basis
not like Cyno or Kaveh, who he sometimes doesn't see in days or weeks, depending on their workload
Tighnari enjoys working with you, but not just because he's friends with you. You complement each other, his strenghts negate your weaknesses, and vice versa. When he's stuck in his research on some specific topic, you offer him some insight from a different perspective that he otherwise would probably have never even considered
Plus, you're very easy to talk to, and just an overall fun person to be around. It's no wonder he'd want to be your friends.
So it's also no wonder that one day, he realizes that his feelings for you go much deeper than just friendship
Is he gonna do anything about it, though?
No. At least, not right away
He's let it sit and sink for a while, come to terms with the fact that he actually likes you in that way, and that it's not just some fleeting crush. He'd plan to tell you eventually, but much to his dismay, he forgot what time it was while he was pondering about his feelings for you
Valentine's Day was here, and of course, he's heard plenty of talk among his fellow forest rangers. He knows that many of them plan to ask you out, thinking that it'd be the right time
He realized what day it was when the first one came up to you and handed you a self crafted bracelet that you gladly accepted. Tighnari watched the interaction take place intently, yet swallowed down his feelings
But then another one came up to you... and another.. with every person that came to you, handing you gifts and trying to flirt with you, his anger at them rose, and he couldn't take it any longer
With an annoyed tone, he pushed all his responsibilities aside for today, went over to you and grabbed your hand, almost demanding of you to accompany him to the city, since he claimed he had some important errands to run and needed your help with them. In truth, he just wanted you as far away from all of the attention from other people as quickly as possible
His lie became obvious pretty fast when he made no attempts to actually go to Sumeru City with you, but you'd already realised why he did what he did, yet decided not to comment on it
the two of you took a stroll along a close by river, and after some time, sitting down and just watching the nature around you
Not many words are spoken, but it's also not neccassary
he has a feeling that you're aware of his feelings for you now, as well. But he won't say anything to you just yet. He needs some more time, but you can be sure that you won't have to wait too long..
Cyno
I see him as one of those people who are not to keen about Valentine's day. To him, it's just a day like anyone else. He's also one of those people that would voluntarily work that day
He's never understood the appeal of it. Why celebrate one special day with your partner, when you can show your love and affection for them any given day? Why safe it for one day in the whole year?
Not that he has a partner to begin with, but it's the whole concept about it that just irks him
however, there is a certain someone that Cyno has had feelings for, for quite some time now. A certain someone that was a desert dweller just like him. Who came with him to the City at a young age and who he stayed friends with all those years
You and Cyno go way back, having been friends with him since you were kids. When he was leaving the desert, he couldn't stand the thought of leaving behind the only person he ever knew and trusted, so he convinced you to go with him. Not like anything was holding you in the desert to begin with, so you agreed
Cyno has come to terms with his feelings for you a long time ago, but has yet to make any move on you. Sure, he's dropped some hints here and there, and made some - very poor - attempts at flirting with you, but you never picked up on any of it
and now, he kinda regretted never telling you more specifically. As every other Valentine's day before, Cyno was working this one, too
he was currently on his way to track some hints he'd gotten, leaving the Academiya, when he catched a glimpse of you, standing on the platform before the Academiya building, surrounded by people
he froze in his steps, deciding to stick around and see what was going on. And it didn't take long until he figured it out..
from the people surrounding you, many were offering you gifts, holding them in front of you and begging you to accept them, while you smile shyly and try to appease as many of them as possible
quickly, jealousy was rising within him, but also his protective side started to show. He knew you disliked crowds, never having the courage to deny people of anything, so he knew you had a hard time right now
without another thought, he rushed to your side, putting an arm around you protectively, while he scared away the crowd under some made up excuse
as soon as they were gone and you had your space again, you let out a relieved breath, thanking him for getting you out of this
Cyno stares at you for a second before looking away again, then claiming that he'd walk with you until you were home safe. Just to make sure that no one else would bother you
on the way there, he's thinking hard. This incident showed him, that he'd have to step up and confess his feelings to you, soon. Or someone else might get ahead of him and snatch you away. And he couldn't let that happen..
Alhaitham
another one who I think wouldn't be too big on Valentine's day, but he'd be much more indifferent about it
much like Cyno, he sees no sense in picking out one "special" day in the year to celebrate love when you can just do it whenenver
however, he does begin to see at least some appeal to the thing when he develops feelings for you, one of his best friends
he loves that he can just spend time with you in silence. That you don't always have the need to converse with him, and instead just enjoy the presence of each other while each of you might be doing their own thing still
however, it still takes Alhaitham some time to accept that he's having these types of feelings for you, so you can't expect a confession from him anytime soon, either
he tries to approach his feelings with logic first, but he comes to realize that logic does not help him in the slightest with this particular "problem"
so instead, he decideds to throw logic out the window for this one and instead settles on the plan to use the upcoming valentine's day this year to actually confess how he feels to you
after talking to a bunch of people about different ideas for gifts, he decides to go with what seems to be the "standard", some flowers and chocolates
he plans on gifting them to you after your shift for the day is done and you're heading home, since he comes by and walks you home from time to time, so it wouldn't be weird for Alhaitham to show up
however, as he arrives, he becomes witness to a scene, similar to what he had planned to do. A man in front of you, asking you to accept his flowers as he asks you out on a date
Alhaitham's heart immediately drops, and he finds himself frozen in place, unable to do anything about it. The only thing he can do, is watch as you laugh awkwardly at the guy and then kindly decline him
seeing you reject him gives him some hope again, and he watches the guy leave first before he approaches you, his gifts for you hidden under his cloak. Even if you rejected him, he was now hesitating wether it was a good idea to actually follow through with his plan
the same exact thing then happened four more times while he was walking you home. Some random person would approach you on the street and hand you some form of a Valentine's present. And every time, you'd kindly turn them down with an uncomfortable smile
seeing the interactions both gave him relief - as you were always rejecting them - but also made him feel more anxious
in the end, when the two of you arrived at your home, he had half a mind to just not say anything at all and just let it go. But then, another thought entered his head that he couldn't ignore away. What if, if he was to forego his chance now, someone else would show up who you'd ultimately agree to go out with?
he couldn't let this happen, not without shooting his own shot, at least
so, before you close the door on him, he stops you, and very awkwardly pulls the flower and chocolates out from under his cloak, handing them to you
he sees the surprise morph into your expression, as he's anxiously waiting for your answer...
Kaveh
I personally think that Kaveh would be very obvious if he has a crush on someone. Wether that be a close friend or someone he doesn't personally know, he's easy to figure out
he wears his heart on the tongue and is very expressive, so one simple question is often enough to figure out what he thinks about certain people
so, it was obvious to you, and everyone around him, that Kaveh has been having feelings for his best friend, You
has he done anything about that or plans on doing anything?
No.
as much as he's aware of his feelings, he also has no idea how to go about it. How would he ask you out in the first place? And why, for all Archon's sake, would you even say yes to him in the first place?
He has to come to terms with that question and many similar ones first, before he feels like he's ready to ask you out
unluckily for him, you're quite an impatient person, and waiting around for him to do something, when you've already dropped so many hints that you liked him, too, was just too damn exhausting
however, luckily for you, Valentine's day was just around the corner, and maybe, you could use that to your advantage..
that day, you'd ask Kaveh to accompany you on a stroll through the city, to get him out of his little office that he's been cramped up in recently to finish a project of his
he gladly took the offer, figuring that he could really use the fresh air. He always loved to spend time with you, talking and laughing with you about anything and everything that came to your minds
however, he noticed that on this particular day, people seemed to approach you every so often, with roses in their hands, engaging in conversations with you that Kaveh stepped away from, not wanting to eavesdrop on private matters
still, he inwardly scoffs to himself. What are these people even trying to achieve? Don't they know that roses aren't even your favourite flowers?
But the more he looks around the city, he slowly comes to realize what kind of day it is today
Now the roses also made sense... and now he could also figure why they were all approaching you, probably to ask you out
And, why wouldn't they? You were a catch, no matter which angle one were to look from. Anyone would be lucky to be able to call you their partner, but.. Kaveh wanted it to be himself, not some random person who doesn't even know you as much as he does
the more people talk to you, the more jealous Kaveh grows as the day goes on, yet he never says anything about it or to you. He just intently watches everyone that dares come closer to you, narrowing his eyes on them, like they just personally offeneded him
once the day is over, Kaveh then locks himself into his office, trying to come up with the most elaborate plan to ask you out. He wanted it to be something grande, something that would be better than anything anyone had ever done for you, that would outdo all the gifts and presents you'd gotten today... and once the plan is set, he'll be making it happen as soon as possible..
Wanderer
not fond about this holiday. At all
he hates how stuck up people can get with their feelings. Why did they have to make a celebration out of it and shove it down everyone's throat?
scoffs loudly whenever he sees a couple act all cutesy and stuff on Valentine's day. It doesn't really bother him all that much on any other day, but that specific day? He hates it
he also hates you. You may be his best - and only - friend, but he hates the way you make him feel sometimes
he tries to deny it for a very long time, chalking it up to some malefunction of his body, but there comes a point in his life where he can no longer deny the feelings he has for you
much to his dismay, the day he'd make that realization just had to be Valentine's day... the fucking irony. Celestia really must hate him
He didn't think anything of it when he invited you to join him for some leisure stroll outside Sumeru City that day. He's waiting for you before Lambad's tavern, impatiently tapping his fingers against his crossed arms
finally, he notices you, but just as he was about to call out to you, he notices someone else approach you and engaging in a conversation with you
the Wanderer had half a mind to walk over there and pull you away, because how dare you make him wait even longer? But then, that person hands you a flower, gifting it to you, and he froze seeing you accept it
soon enough, you'd part ways with that person and finally join the Wanderer, but by that time, his mood has already turned sour
he still goes on that stroll with you, but the entire time, he basically ignores you as he tries to figure out why he feels so frustrated by this interaction. Why would you accept flowers from a lowlife like that? Wasn't he enough for you?
As soon as that thought entered his mind, his eyes widened and he knew he was screwed, that he'd somehow caught feelings for you. But realizing it, and admiting to it, are two completely different things
when you two return to Sumeru City, he witnesses two other people approach and do the same thing, gifting you a flower each that you accept with a kind smile
and with every interaction he sees, his anger and resentment towards them grows and grows
he can't deal with it any longer, so he leaves the scene without any further explanation
he'd have a lot of thinking to do, as well as coming to terms with some things. You wouldn't see him for a while, even if you were to seek him out. He just needed to do this on his own, because the next time he sees you, he plans on making you his, no matter what it would take..

You stare at the clock in the corner of the desk, the hand is slowly creeping towards midnight. The library was empty except for you, your desk was scattered full of textbooks, essay guides, and empty cups of coffee. Your tired eyes gaze over the essay structure, ensuring that every comma, period, and word is perfect. This essay had to be perfect.
You rub your eyes feeling tiredness wash over you but you can't stop now. Your hand was starting to cramp up from how much you were writing but you had to keep going. You can't stop. Not now. This Akademiya application essay is too important. If you don't get into the akademiya now that will throw off your whole plan of becoming the youngest person to join Spantamad in the akademiya's history.
Getting into Spantamad at such a young age would prove your capable. Your parents expect nothing less from you, you've always been told you have what it takes. But was that true? Do you really have what it takes to get into one of the best schools in teyvat?
You push those thoughts aside. No, you have to be perfect. You continue to scratch away at the essay on your desk annotating notes you hadn't noticed before. When suddenly a bolt of pain is sent through your hand, making you drop the pen and grip your hand in pain.
You begin to massage your hand, and you allow yourself to sink into your chair. Your eyelids felt so heavy, that all you want to do is rest and be done with this essay. Maybe you can take a quick nap, just to so you can get some energy. You set the timer beside you to 30 minutes so it wouldn't be too long of a nap. It couldn't hurt to take one break, could it?
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Alhaitham was always the first person to enter the akademiya. Even before he became the acting grand sage he was always the first person to enter those doors. He has a set-in-stone plan that he has put together for himself to follow. Even if one thing is off, his whole day feels like a mess.
First, he wakes up before the sun rises and has a short 3-mile run, he then gets ready for his day while Kaveh is talking his ear off about something. When he arrived at the school he'd enjoyed the silence of an empty place.
That's why when he hears a loud beeping coming from inside the library he is immediately ticked off. He marches his way into the library prepared to kick some student out. His 10 minutes of silence in the halls have been ruined by some student thinking there someone special to be able to leave that noise going and no think that he's- Oh wait, it's you.
When the acting grand sage turns the corner, he is met with the sight of you sleeping on a library desk filled with stacks of books and cups of what looked like coffee. He turned the alarm on your desk off with a small tap. Your face was scrunched into an angry face and you were mumbling something in your sleep.
He hated to admit but it was kind of, cute.
He looked at the papers in front of you, they were submission essays to the Akademiya. Each one was different from the last. Touching on a different subject in each essay he read. He's seen these essays before, you showed them to him so he could check if there were any mistakes. He had told you they were fine but you somehow managed to find the smallest mistakes a re-write the whole essay again. You've been overworking yourself too much lately and it was not good for someone of your age.
"(Y/n), (Y/n)?" Your breathing was slow and it looked like you were deep in sleep. You were probably up for a while if you are still in the N3 stage of sleep. He would take you into his office so you could get some rest away from others' eyes.
He draped his cape over you carefully picked you up and carried you to the elevator up to his office. He figured it would be less embarrassing for you to be asleep in front of a bunch of college students.
He placed you on a couch he had placed in his office a couple months ago. Alhaitham looked down at you on the couch and saw your smile soften.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Your eyes began to slowly blink open, the soft fabric underneath your body was comforting compared to that hardwood desk. You hugged the pillow next to your head allowin- wait.
You blink your eyes open at the sudden realization that you aren't at your desk anymore. Your body shoots up from its resting position and looks around the new area. Your eyes adjusted to the new lighting and a blur of what looked like an office came into view. It looked like Alhaitham's office.
"Hm? You're up," You turned your head to see Alhaitham at his desk writing down something on a stack of papers. "I've prepared a cup of chamomile tea for you." He gestures to a cup of tea on a side table beside you.
You thanked him and took the tea off the table, it was warm to the touch and wasn't too hot at all. "How long was I out for?"
"10 hours and 46 minutes," He responds. You hum in response and go back to your tea. "You know, you shouldn't be overworking yourself like this."
"I know, I just... need everything to be perfect." you sigh and hug your knees close to your chest.
"Perfection is something even the greatest scholars have never achieved, and you will never reach it either," His reply felt cold but warm at the same time. You could tell he was trying to give some type of comfort in his own weird way.
"But, if it's not perfect, what's the point?" How am I supposed to be the person that everyone thinks I am?
"In truth, people want something real. Something that reflects your thoughts, your ideals, and personality." He looks up from his work and gives you a small smile. "You are a very sharp and determined person, I know you are more than capable of writing this without having to work yourself to death." Were those words of comfort? From Alhaitham?! The most unloving man alive?!? And with a smile that wasn't condescending?!?!
"Who are you and what have you done with the Acting Grand Sage?"
His smile falters into his condescending smirk. "I let you sleep in my office and this is the thanks I get? Ungrateful." He rolls his eyes playfully.
"Words of comfort from you are odd." You chuckle.
"Hm?" He raised his eyebrow at you, "I do not know what you mean? I am always comforting,"
"Okay then name one time in the past week that you comforted someone."
He pulled his arm under his chin and thought long and hard about it. "Ah yes, I gave Layla notes on her thesis and told her it was average enough to get an 'A'. "
"You didn't actually say that to her, did you?" Your mouth agape at this man's lack of social skills.
"No, I didn't say it to her," He pauses for a moment. "I wrote it on the front of her essay." The scholar answered with a straight look on his face.
"Dude..."
Lyney
Art: @ m_iothle on twitter
"Fuck..." You sigh as you let yourself fall onto the ground. You are currently atop a roof in the Court of Fontaine looking into the window of a Fontainian official's house. You had been tasked, by Father, to gather as much information as you could about the man as you could.
The dim light inside the home and the moon are the only things illuminating your surroundings as you adjust your position. You take out a notebook and start flipping through weeks of information on this guy. Every detail mattered — what this guy ate, who he spoke to, what time he went to bed — it all mattered.
Reading through you could see patterns forming, patterns that could be this man's downfall. But the job was taking its toll. You barely slept for weeks, surviving off caffeine, small sandwiches, and will. Though your senses have been sharpened through harsh training you find yourself having trouble keeping yourself upright.
"Just one more hour..." You mumble as you try to fight off sleep, your words echo in your head as you scribble down more notes in your journal. Minutes blurred into another as your eyes grew heavier, you fought the sleep, shifting into other positions, but your body had other plans.
And just like that — they were out.
︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶
Lyney grumbled, tapping his foot on the floor as he waited for you to return from your mission to give him a briefing. His teeth shuddered as a cold breeze hit him. Lyney had been waiting up to an hour for you to show up but to no avail had he seen any sight of you.
You've been late to meetings, but never more than 10 minutes. An annoyed expression spread across his face as he realized he would have to come find you himself. About half an hour later Lyney found you knocked out on the roof across from the target.
"Hmm, aren't they adorable?" Lyney hums to themselves as they smile down at they're sleeping, sibling. He scans over your face taking note of your eye bags and unkept hair. Your notebook dangles loosely from your fingertips, he bends down and plucks it from your hands. You've been neglecting to take care of yourself and from the looks of it, you fell asleep on the job. Well we can't have that, can we?
︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶
A loud crack jolted you from your sleeping position. You sprung yourself up from your relaxed position — ready to fight whoever shot at you. But to your surprise, you only find Lyney with a straight face and his eyes showing no emotions for you to read.
"L-lyney?!" You blurt out, "What are you-, wait! Is it check-in time already?!" You say in a panic suddenly remembering the meeting.
"Yes, my dear sibling it is far past the time we agreed on," He grumbled. "And not only have I found you asleep on the job, you have also left yourself open to attacks."
I scoffed at his words "I'm hidden, the target has no idea I'm here."
"Hm," He hummed then lunged at you, he grabbed your arm and twisted it behind your back. "Even if you are hidden that does not make you invisible — you are still open to attacks."
You struggle against his hold, every time you try to pull yourself out of his grip Lyney twists your arm causing pain throughout your body. "Well, I just woke up and you're stronger than me."
"Is that the excuse we should carve into your grave then?"
You stop struggling for a second taking in his words. Your body was noticeably sluggish, normally when someone had you in this position you could easily twist your way out of it. But your exhaustion had cost you some of your strength — which left you helpless under Lyney.
The magician loosens his grip and lets you move away from him. "Y/n, I get it, this is your first mission and you want to do your best. But this is not the mission you should lose sleep over."
"I know... but I want to make Father proud and give me more missions in the future—,"
"— And they will, but at this rate, you'll burn yourself out." A pang of frustration and concern twisted in his chest. "If you go about every mission like this then you'll end up hating the idea of getting sent out on the field."
You keep your head low feeling a twinge of shame for overworking yourself. Lyney lets out a sigh and places a hand on your head, "You did great work today Y/n, you should be proud."
A smile threatens to appear on your face as he praises you, "But the next time Father sends you on a mission I hope that you will remember to take care of yourself. Got it." It sounded like he was more demanding of you than asking.
"Yes sir!" you say, excited about the prospect of getting a second mission.
"Good, now head back to the house and get some rest," He turns away from you and starts flipping through your notebook. "I'll take care of the rest."

Who says that kids can't handle pressure? Because they obviously haven't met you! The demanding life of owning a restaurant is tough on your parents; so you're here to lighten their load. Do they need more utensils? You'll buy some! Short staffed? Pfft easy, you'll jump in! Crippling debt from when your father started the business? Take it out of your own pocket! When people ask you about the pressure, what pressure? Pressure is for non-achievers who are too scared to get what's needed to be done.
You live and breathe by this mantra; it's all that keeps you in business and out of the streets. You work hard as your parents' underpaid accountant. The idea of the business clasping caused you to work long work hours well into the night, such as this night.
The evening moonlight shows through the window, casting on your face. The dinner rush has started, and the sound of utensils hitting plates runs through your ears. Your parents are running from kitchen to table carrying heavy trays of food and empty plates. You can see tired lines itching onto their faces as they tirelessly work.
The restaurant work had also taken a toll on you — causing you sleepless nights wondering if you were gonna have a home the next day. All you could do was adjust your parent's budgeting to something more sustainable.
You are currently seated at the bar working out the details of next month's budgeting plans. You rub your temple to try and soothe your nerves. You look at every cent of money that goes in and out of this place. Every little dollar counts.
The rent is due soon. The money was looking scarce. The price of tomatoes is getting higher, so we might need to push more egg-related dishes to customers. Maybe you could switch to a cheaper brand. Looking over the spreadsheet it didn't seem like your parent's restaurant had much time left. Maybe —
Your head snapped forward, then snapped back up.
No. You have to stay awake.
You blicked rapidly and chugged down half a hot coffee to keep you from falling asleep. You needed to figure out how to save the business. If the restaurant went down then your parent's dreams would go down. This place wasn't just a job for them but also their home, literally. Your father never looked happier when he was in the kitchen even with bags forming under his eyes. Your mother thrived on making recipes for others to try. And you lived here — it offered such a warm and inviting atmosphere that you loved.
So you pressed on, even as your eyes grew heavy and your head dropped...... SLAM!
A cup slamming on the table jerking you up right from your half-sleeping state. You look up to see a slightly drunk architect sitting next to you. You recognized the man as Kaveh, the famous architect who often came down to your parents' restaurant to drink his sorrows away. You two frequently chatted when he came around and considered each other as kind of friends.
He had a joyful expression on his face and looked to be celebrating something by himself. This is odd for him as when he comes in he's often here to yap on about some horrible client he's has.
You are unsure of when he got there in the short time you rested your eyes but it was probably a little while ago. You look at the clock across from you, it reads 11:36 PM. Fuck, you let yourself relax and wasted an hour and a half. You groggily stretched out your arms and lazily picked up the pencil to continue your work.
"Late night?" Kaveh says facing his body toward you.
You fidget with a strand of your hair. "Something like that." You huff out.
"You don't look that great," He said trying to put it as nicely as possible.
"I'm fine," You brush him off as you take a sip of your now cold coffee. His eyes scan over the mess of papers surrounding you and frowns.
"Y/n, I get you're trying to help your parents but — you can't do that if you're dead on your feet."
You let out a small chuckle "Those are some wise words for a drunkard."
He chuckled nervously, remembering a certain sage who spoke those words to him "Yeah, they're technically not my words but they helped me when I was working myself to death."
"Well, I don't really have a choice," You mutter. "If I don't fix this budget then—,"
Kaveh stops you with a hand to your face. "The restaurant will not shut down if you rest during the night." He furrows his eyebrows. "This restaurant is your parent's responsibility — not yours."
The architect reaches for the paper in front of you and carefully stacks them together. "Now, you go rest for however much you need to and come back when you have energy?"
You wait a beat before responding, one night's rest couldn't hurt? "Alright," You sigh in defeat as you push yourself off the high stool.
The numbers could wait — just a little while.
For my announcement, I will not be as genshin-focused from now on. I will still post genshin things if you request it but I will be trying to focus on other fandoms like MHA/JJK/Demon Slayer. This is mostly because I have not been enjoying genshin anymore and it's gotten kinda stale in terms of everything. So if you have any requests I will do them but other than that I'm not writing genshin. (also, yes true meaning will continue but it will end at Fontaine because I don't wanna write Natlan #ProudNatlanStoryQuestHater)

GENSHIN MEN & FALLING ASLEEP ON YOUR SHOULDER .
characters. xiao kaeya diluc childe itto alhaitham kaveh x reader genre. romantic fluff, can be seen as platonic too, suggestiveness in itto's part an. fluff <3 all the fluff <3 | please reblog!! im getting back into writing and reblogs with tags and comments will make me want to write more :D
xiao
xiao falls asleep on your shoulder, and he looks almost... peaceful. as if the karmic debt never existed, as if he never suffered in pain during the eons that he lived. you can't bear to wake him up – lest he never gets rest like this again.
kaeya
when kaeya falls asleep on your shoulder, you smile to yourself and run your fingers through his messy head of hair. his locks are let loose from the band he usually adorns and the exhaustedness finally melts away. he's visibly less stressed now.
diluc
when he finally lays his head on your shoulder to rest, you don't bother moving him. after a day of work and stacks of papers tall enough to match his height, diluc eventually allows himself to take a quick nap before starting again... of course, that nap becomes an hour.
childe
"i swear, 'm not tir-" your boyfriend can't even finish his words before his lids close, mouth partially open as he leans his full weight against you. childe reluctantly falls asleep, head nestled comfortably against your shoulder.
itto
your boyfriend whines that he's not tired, even though you can practically see the Z's that are coming out of his head. once the both of you reach home, though – he literally slumps to the floor and has to take a nap there. you just leave him be.
alhaitham
alhaitham never tells you that he's tired. he'd rather take a nap and leave you to find out, rather than let you know... however, this time is different: he's slumping with exhaustion and before you know it, his head leans against yours and he's finally asleep.
kaveh
kaveh loves to fall asleep anywhere. on the bed, on the couch, at his desk, even the dining table – but especially, your shoulder. it's no surprise at this point that he gets tired easily and why take a nap on the bed when your shoulder is right there? you don't mind, as long as he doesn't drool...

something sweet. dedicated to @idyllic-affections thanks for writing my kaveh rq n this series is inspired by ur acc.. realized i strayed from the real purpose of this fic and made it too long, so just think of it as a 2 in 1 special lol,, (also hi sorry for using dottore he's like my muse and i love writing him) also i hope yall get the meaning of this shit lmao (ref to the scara quest tale)
˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ cw: strictly platonic/familial, reader is 8 years old, basic dottore warnings, mentions of death, dissecting animals and injuries, implied dottolone (barely), a little ooc but it's canon to me
Dottore's office was once a sacred chamber inside the Fatui headquarters.
While not relatively as pristine as his laboratory, amidst the chaos, there was order. Everything was in its designated place, even though his desk was a nightmare to whoever laid eyes on it (spilled coffee too busy to clean, now dried onto the wood of his table, piles, and piles of documents and papers stacked haphazardly on one another, a disarray of pens and pencils occupying every available niche, and vials filled with who-knows-what dangerously teetering on the edge).
Hazards lurked at every turn within his office, presenting a far-from-presentable façade that seemingly clashed with his position as the 2nd of the 11th Fatui Harbingers. Yet, one might ponder, does the doctor truly concern himself with such matters?
No, not at all. He doesn't have the time to clean everything or keep them in such an organized state. He simply knows everything is in place, and the mess scarcely holds him back (he hires maids once in a while, when the mess gets too much, and in 1 out of 5 maids he hires only makes it out alive).
Yet, what truly imbued this room with a sense of sanctity? For within these walls, he unearthed his genuine solace and tranquility.
In this space, silence reigned supreme. Isolation was his companion, a cherished serenity he embraced. Here, his thoughts danced, inventions took form, and ideas flowed onto paper alongside intricate equations. Occasionally, he'd pass out on his desk and drool all over his papers. This room stood as a shelter inviolable, reserved solely for those few instances of urgency or the presence of a fellow Harbinger.
All other members of the Fatui instinctively bid their time, patiently awaiting his emergence from the sanctum of his office before venturing to approach him. For within its confines, the Doctor was impervious to disruption. No one disturbs the Doctor.
That was before you came along, of course.
The office, ill-suited for a child of your tender years, harbored a minefield of hazards. Within its walls lay various artifacts, concoctions, and intricate machinery, a perilous realm unfit for the innocent curiosity of youth. Regrettably, your presence inadvertently disrupted the serene harmony that had long enveloped this space, unsettling the Doctor who, by nature, dislikes abrupt shifts and deviations from what he was used to.
When you first arrived in his office (he didn't want you inside of it, after all, he wasn't exactly fond of children, but he had no choice) you were immediately injured after stepping onto a shard of glass that Dottore has completely ignored. You tried your very best not to cry for the sake of not irritating Dottore further, but he wasn't very gentle with your wound either.
He took note of keeping his vials away from the edge of his table.
Then a bunch of books topples over you. He puts them into the shelves now, and you helped him organize by using the Dewey Decimal System, to which you had read from a book.
Then, while he was explaining his recent idea (rather enthusiastically) to you, his hand accidentally slammed against his files and flew straight to your face. You also helped him organize his papers.
And then it was cleaning his desk, offering him DIY pencil holders you've made just for him. You've also invented a mug that prevents the liquid inside from spilling (he thinks it was a rather brilliant invention, he no longer has to worry about spilling on his desk).
And then it was putting his rather precarious possessions somewhere else, outside the vicinity of his office and far away from your grasp.
You were very eager to help him in any way possible, and for a child, you quite enjoyed receiving chores. Yet, your contentment was uncomplicated, drawn from the privilege of being granted entry to his treasure trove of knowledge, replete with a limitless collection of books, materials, and tools.
Dottore always thought that you'd be such a nuisance to him once you entered his office and sully the peace he has always known within his office's enclosed haven.
But he didn't expect to welcome your presence at all, on such short notice, too. (Deep inside, he felt a strange warmth in his chest whenever you'd tug on his coat, asking if he needed any assistance with organizing his office. He wonders what it was, though.)
So, here you were, amidst the symphony of pen strokes etching against paper, a solitary melody resonating within the confines of his office.
Contrary to his expectations, the calmness he believed would dissipate upon your arrival had, in fact, been amplified by leaps and bounds. As he observed from the corner of his eye, you reclined on your stomach, legs swinging idly behind you, immersed in a world of creativity. Strewn across the floor, an assortment of crayons bore testament to your artistic endeavors, while he diligently attended to the papers handed by the Fatui.
Then, as if hesitant to break the comfortable silence, you tried to catch his attention with a soft 'psst!', then covered your mouth with your tiny hand to suppress your childish giggles.
The corners of his lips twitch in irritance amusement as he turns his head toward you, his pen on the desk. You broke into a much bigger grin and held your drawing close to your chest, not wanting to expose it just yet. "Hey, Dotdot!" You whispered to him, and he can't help but roll his eyes smile at the nickname you've given him. "Can I show you what I drew?"
Dottore emitted a contemplative hum as if grappling with the decision of whether to engage or remain absorbed in his thoughts. Your evident impatience manifested in a pout, prompting his response. "Well, fine," He yielded, beckoning you forth. You beamed brightly as you swiftly rose to your feet and bounded toward him, your landing generating a muted grunt from him. A steadying hand rested on the desk, enabling him to regain his composure, after which he settled your giggling form comfortably within the space between his legs. "Now then," He put his hands on your shoulder, "What is it you wished to share?"
With another giggle from your ceaseless childish amusement, you gave him the piece of paper. Big, round eyes sparkling against the light of the room looked up at him expectantly. Dottore received the drawing from you, his gaze lingering over its details, drawn into a moment of shared curiosity and wonder.
It was him, and you, holding hands, depicted with earnest effort and the imaginative touch of your youthful artistry. Around you were a bunch of other versions of him, his segments, though you've only drawn five (since they were the only ones who have interacted with you so far). Each had their names labeled beneath them, but Dottore absolutely adores that you've labeled him as 'Dotdot' instead (you've also drawn Pantalone holding your other hand and labeled him as 'Pants', adorned both figures with encircling hearts).
"Truly remarkable artwork," He stated with a smile, his words accompanied by the sound of your jubilant cheers, "This masterpiece deserves a place of honor, a spot where all can admire it. I can already imagine the joy it will bring to the other segments once they lay eyes on it."
"Really!?"
"Of course, I do believe they enjoy your company, little bunny."
As he carefully set the drawing on his table, your inquisitive gaze caught his attention. With a tilt of your head, a gesture he knew all too well, you asked him a question, "Why do you call me that?"
"Hm? Call you what?" Dottore grabbed you gently and settled you onto his desk. Positioned face to face, at eye level, his intent was clear—to engage with you as both an adult and a child, a balance you seemed to relish.
"Bunny! You call me bunny lots,"
"Oh? Do you not like it?"
You vigorously shook your head, "No no, I love it! I get called nicknames, but they're all mean." You furrow your brow as you reminisced, pouting at the awful memories. But then you broke into a big smile again, "But yours is new and cute! So, why do you call me that?"
Dottore's grin widened, revealing his sharp teeth, a sight that enthralled you. Your hands instinctively moved to his cheeks, your eyes filled with wonder, and he welcomed the touch wholeheartedly. "Ahh, ever so curious, aren't you, little bun?" He teased playfully, giving your nose a gentle boop! with his finger, and your giggles were a delightful response. "You see, I call you bunny because you embody its spirit—small, swift, and an endless source of vibrant energy.
You also love to hop onto people a lot."
"I love giving surprise hugs! I'm too small, so a jump, so I can wrap my arms around them a bit higher!" You huffed as he chuckled at your explanation. "What are you, then? What animal?"
"Oh? I've never thought about what kind of animal I'd be... Hmmm..." Dottore mused for a while, his expression thoughtful. Eventually, he arrived at a decision. "A fox, I think. Crafty, shrewd, and sly. A creature that prowls with a purpose and possesses those distinct, sharp teeth." As he said that, he grins once more to show his sharp teeth, then lunges for your finger, mimicking a bite, prompting you to gasp and pull back with a joyful squeal.
"And speaking of bunnies..." His tone took on a mischievous edge, causing your eyes to widen in anticipation. Suddenly, he swooped in, grabbing your legs and lifting you high into the air. "I might just gobble you up!" Dottore's playful pretense of chomping down on you elicited a cascade of laughter from you. You pushed at his head, trying to escape his 'gobbling' jaws, your legs kicking playfully as you enjoyed the moment.
"I don't think you're a fox, Dotdot!" You quipped, retaking your seat on his desk. Playfully swinging your legs, you mused aloud, a soft humming accompanying your contemplation.
Dottore raised an intrigued eyebrow, "Oh? And what am I in the eyes of my little bunny? Perhaps something more fearsome?" He inquired, looming over you in an effort to intimidate you.
Instead, your eyes lit up brightly, and you joyfully clapped your hands together. "Oh, I've got it! A crow!" You exclaimed with a triumphant smile.
A bemused frown replaced his grin as he processed your unexpected response. "...A crow?" He echoed, clearly puzzled by your choice. "Of all animals?"
And you merely smile at him, giggling at his confused reaction, "Mhm! Yeah! A crow that talks on and on and on." Your hands followed your words, almost hitting him in the face, "A crow that is death and prey over rotting corpses, but a crow that saved me! I thought Dotdot was an angel, but angels don't have black feathers, scary smiles, or red eyes."
Your words painted a vivid picture of your perception, a whimsical and deeply personal perspective on his nature. Dottore nods along, intrigued, as you rambled your thoughts to him, not even chastising you for grabbing the beak of his mask and playing with it.
"You're a crow! You're very smart, and clever, and creative! You're scary to other people, but not to me! I love corvids, I used to feed them bits of animal after I dissect them, and they always bring me something shiny. They were my only friends, and now you're my friend too!"
He doesn't understand the gentle warmth that began to unfurl within his chest as he remained attentive to your words. While unfamiliar, this sensation wasn't entirely unwelcome... "I beg to differ, my dear bunny. I am unmistakably a fox,"
"Then you're a crow pretending to be a fox!" You pout, stubbornly crossing your arms. "I think crows are way cooler than foxes. They can fly! Plus, you can't call yourself a fox when you resemble a crow more than a fox!" You pointed out, a triumphant smirk on your lips.
Well, you do have a point. He does wear a beaked mask, coupled with a bird-like shoulder embellishment bedecked in exquisite black feathers.
"Should I then consider donning attire that better befits a fox?"
At the notion, you fixed him with a mock glare, your cheeks puffing out in an adorable display of discontent. "Nooooo! I prefer Mr. Crow!" you protested with a playful whine, punctuating your words by delivering gentle punches to his shoulders with your tiny hands.
He chuckles at your small tantrum, and he swiftly gathers you into his embrace. Your arms naturally encircled his neck as he rose from his seat, carrying you toward the door, your precious drawing clutched in your hands. "Very well, very well, my dear Mr. Crow it shall remain," He conceded with a playful tone, his steps filled with an easy camaraderie.
Victoriously, you shot him a smug grin, to which he rolled his eyes at.
"Do you wanna know something, Mr. Crow?" You mutter in his ear as he walks past one of his segments.
"Hm? What is it?"
You made sure to whisper it very quietly, hoping the other segments won't hear you. "Between you and me, I think that your younger segments are like rats!"
He didn't know what came over him, he released a hearty, resounding laugh, its volume surprising not just you but also the other segments who happened to be present, each momentarily taken aback by their own affairs. Such an outpouring of mirth was rare for him (only when he was inside his dark, cool lab, alone with experiments).
A sense of pride swelled in your chest as you grinned widely, his laughter infectious as you burst into a fit of giggles. It was a scary laugh, maybe it was just naturally like that, but to you, it sounded very happy. "They bit me once! I was just poking their face."
"Perhaps give them a treat before you approach them," He says, calming down as he continues his trek toward your room. "This gesture might just soften their demeanor."
"What, like cheese?"
"Oh, little bun, that'll drive them even more mad once they found out you called them rats."
You share another grin with him, finding a cozy spot to rest your chin upon his shoulder in contentment, "Good! I think they're funny when their faces turn red."

Being A Part of the Sumeru Squad!
I've been thinking a lot recently about being a part of the ‘in’ group in Sumeru - the ones shown to be good friends on screen already (Tighnari, Cyno, Al Haitham and Kaveh!) I feel like there's lots of ways one could slot themselves into the dynamic and it's just very pleasant and fun to think about.
(Rambles below the cut. Platonic stuff, reader is referred to as ‘you’ and is entirely gender neutral)
Though the squad is almost constantly making playful little jabs at one another, bickering back and forth and whatnot, they're overall a pretty supportive and kind group and accept you into their midst without too much fuss.
You soon find yourself invited to a myriad of small, casual get-togethers where the group catches up with one another. It's kind of weirdly formal at first, with so many of them holding such high and important statuses.
Luckily, Kaveh also ends up feeling pretty left out during these discussions, so you'll have someone to chat with or ask questions when you've lost track of the topic at hand. Plus, he's often got some very funny (and surprisingly astute) commentary to add on, even when the subject is painfully dull.
Once all the politics are out of the way, the conversation tends to ease right up for a little while. Regardless of whether you're at some restaurant or cafe, or just hanging out at someone's house, there's usually snacks available and things will remain super lighthearted for a bit, all jokes and talks of recently released books or occasional infodumps about hyperfixations and special interests.
On that subject, whenever the stars align and two or more group members have the same special interest or hyperfixation, hoo boy, you can expect them to monopolise the conversation and somehow always drag it back to whatever niche fascinations that they may have accrued lately.
If you have something you want to talk about, you can rest assured that at least one person in the room will be able to engage. Everybody has their own collection of equally specific and obscure knowledge - with the occasional kind of hilarious overlap. Kaveh and Cyno’s shared fascination with Fontanian machinery, or Tighnari and Al-Haitham’s in-depth discussions of insectoid languages and their potential overlap with human ones are some of the first to come to mind.
Of course, disagreements do break out every now and then - but everyone is fairly civil for the most part, if a little bit overdramatic and occasionally loud. It's interesting to see how everyone the group tends to take sides almost as soon as a hint of a possible disagreement rears its head. Al-Haitham once questioned Cyno's sense of humour, querying whether it could really be considered comedy if nobody was laughing, and pretty soon, Tighnari and Kaveh were arguing along as passionately as if they'd been personally insulted.
You tend to be the tiebreaker more often than not - with such an evenly split group, there often tends to be an even balance between whatever arguments. It doesn't help that Al-Haitham likes to break it all down and give pros and cons for both sides (while still keeping his own stance firm), which may make it impossible for you to decide.
Luckily, it's easy enough for you to guide the group's attention elsewhere. Just offer to make them some hot drinks or ask if someone wants to play a round of Genius Invocation, and it's like the argument never happened at all.
It's easy to wind up feeling a little out of place in a group of such highly ranking people, but it's like your friends develop a sixth sense for when you're starting to get a little confused or feeling out of your depth. Instead of poking fun at you (like they do for Kaveh), they'll find a way to rope you into the conversation that doesn't put too much pressure on you. Cyno and Tighnari, especially, seem to have a way of relating things to subjects that are in your area of expertise to help you parse them better so you can find your footing and be debating back and forth with the rest of them.
Game nights tend to get really intense. It's not a case of if someone will flip their lid, it's simply a case of when. Alliances and subsequent betrayals are all too common, and you'll often find yourself being bribed to help someone one-up another person.
They even have a ‘trophy’ for winning each week's game night. It's a tiny crown, carved out of wood and painted gold. Collei made it and donated it to the group. Whoever possesses the crown also possesses the ultimate bragging rights until the next gaming night (or until they accidentally sit on it and squash it with their big clumsy butt. Kaveh ).
Though the group is chaotic, noisy, and constantly teasing one another, they're all so supportive of one another and will stick together through thick and thin. As the conversations slow down, sometimes some pretty serious subjects get brought up, heavy venting and other such similar things.
Though, they're all very understanding if someone isn't in the correct headspace for that sort of talk, and will happily postpone it or talk about it elsewhere if needed. They're also very used to multiple conversations happening at once, so it's easy enough for someone to dodge around the heavy topics if they need to.
The squad can be almost violently supportive at times. Sometimes you worry that Cyno may be one hundred percent genuine about abusing his status as the General Mahamatra to threaten somebody who mildly inconvenienced you one time in the market last week.
Overall, the vibes of the friend group are super fun (if a little intense at times). They may not say it directly, but everyone is super glad to have you around, hanging out with them and getting in on all the goofs they make and shaking up their dynamic a little bit.

kaveh fluff, 400w. (relationship status ambiguous). gn!reader has braidable hair.
“Ow, you’re pulling,” you said, feeling your eyes involuntarily water as Kaveh tugged a few strands of hair a bit too hard.
He promptly released the tension on your hair. “Sorry. Sit still, ‘kay?”
“I can’t believe you do this to your hair every day.”
He laughed and started on your hair again, noticeably gentler this time. “I just like having my hair out of my face,” he explained, “that’s all. It really doesn’t take me that long.”
You considered how long you had been sitting here while he tried and tried again to get your hair just right. “It clearly does take you ‘that long,’ it’s been twenty minutes. Why don’t you just tie your hair back normally instead? Wouldn’t that be faster?”
“Why’d you even want me to do this for you?” He scoffed. “I thought you liked the way it looks.” He gathered some hair from your front, pinning it. “Besides, it’s completely different trying to replicate it with someone else’s hair.”
You hesitated. “Well, yeah, it looks really pretty on you.”
He didn’t respond for a few seconds, making some adjustments the hair at the back of your head. Then, he walked around to the front of the chair you were sitting in, and adjusted your bangs with a careful hand. “It looks pretty on you, too.”
You tried and failed to hold back a smile, looking up at him.
“What?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. “What’s the matter? What is it?”
“Nothing,” you said, grinning.
He took a deep breath, scrutinizing your hair with a designer’s eye. Then, he nodded in satisfaction, picking up a mirror from the table and handing it to you. He took the other one and walked behind you again, holding it up so that you could see how he had arranged the braids.
“Hey… that looks different from how you do yours!” you exclaimed.
“Well, I’m sorry for taking creative liberty to work with what I had. What did you exp—”
“Kaveh, I’m teasing.”
“Ah. So… you like it?”
“Yes.”
“It’s not pulling anywhere, is it?”
“Nope. I’d be the first to tell you.”
“Good. I’m glad.” He cleared his throat. “Well, congratulations. You now look a tiny bit more like me.”
You smirked. “As if I could get prettier."

it didn’t take the scribe too long to notice something was off about his roommate. he knew the man like the back of his own hand; he could tell when something was wrong.
and his senses were telling him something was up. kaveh was behaving strangely.
he’d linger in places alhaitham was at, casting him strange looks, he’d try to initiate conversation or playful banter, and most surprisingly of all, he’d been dropping vague, almost unnoticeable hints of craving… something.
did alhaitham figure out what it was? not yet. the architect was making it quite hard. what could kaveh possibly want from alhaitham?
perhaps he was behaving like this because of his job? alhaitham has heard many stories of his “moronic” clients, most of those being drunken confessions from the blonde.
his “strange” behaviour continued over the weeks, until alhaitham physically got fed up with the constant hint dropping, lingering glances.
he waited for kaveh to return, sitting on the couch with his arms folded over his chest. “kaveh” the scribe spoke sternly, staring at his roommate. the latter returned his gaze, his crimson eyes filling with confusion as he stared back at alhaitham.
“yes?” “couch. now”
kaveh wanted to refuse. he didn’t have time for this! but at the same time, this could be a chance to get what he wants… right?
the architect reluctantly sat down next to alhaitham, fidgeting with his hands nervously. “you’ve been behaving stranger than usual.” alhaitham said bluntly, matter of factly. kaveh scoffed at that. “my behaviourism hasn’t changed a bit. you’re seeing things” alhaitham frowned at that. “and now you’re lying.”
kaveh froze. fuck. he got caught.
“what?!” he squawked, attempting to hide his clear nervousness at alhaitham’s statement. “i am not!” “you clearly are.” the scribe sighed. the two went back and forth for a while, their argument ending with a surprised squeal from kaveh when alhaitham’s hand dug into his side.
“what was that for?!” the architect said shakily, swatting at alhaitham’s hand. alhaitham was silent.
in one move, he pulled kaveh down onto his lap, his legs holding the other’s arms down. “a-alhaitham? what are you— wahahahait no!”
kaveh’s words were cut off by giggling as alhaitham’s hands dug into his sides again, his fingers fluttering up and down and drawing out loud squeals of laughter. “ahahahalhaitham! stohohohohop thahat!” he whined, squirming around in the scribe’s hold. “i will if you explain your behaviour to me, kaveh.” alhaitham replied blankly, continuing to tickle and squeeze kaveh’s sides. “hahahahaithahaham! wahahah nooo!” the architect squealed, kicking his legs out. he squawked in protest when alhaitham’s hands moved up to his ribs. “nahahahaha! nohohot theheheree!”
a ghost of a smile crosses alhaitham’s face as he spidered his hands over his poor roommate’s ribs.
“you know how to make it stop, kaveh” alhaitham answered truthfully, biting back a smile at kaveh’s embarrassingly loud squeals. “youhuhuhu bahahahahastard!!” he yelped, trying to give alhaitham an unhappy frown. it had no effect, though. his frown looked more like a crooked smile. “i ahahaham your sehehehenior! youhuhu behehehetter shohohow some respehehehect!” “that’s not nice, kaveh.” alhaitham chided, scribbling his fingers across kaveh’s tummy, which resulted in loud laughter and protests from his senior. “you ought to set a better example for your junior.”
at this point, kaveh’s mind went blank. all he could process was the unbearably ticklish sensations of alhaitham tickling his tummy and hips. he shrieked when the scribe’s hands shot to his hips and thighs, his laughter reaching an even higher octave.
“hahahahahahaithaAHAHaham!! pleEHEHEheheseee!” kaveh begged, tears of mirth pooling in his eyes as he kept on laughing and squealing. “will you talk to me now?” alhaitham questioned nonchalantly, as if he wasn’t sending the poor architect to his very own grave with tickles right now. “i wihihihill i WIHIHILL! juhuhust stahahap ihihit!!”
the scribe did as told, raising his hands up ever so slightly. kaveh panted, attempting to catch his breath after alhaitham’s cruel attack.
“y-you are so mean…” kaveh breathed out, resting his head against alhaitham’s side. “so i’ve been told” came the reply. “well? will you talk now, or do i need to persuade you more?”
kaveh shuddered at his roommate’s tone of voice, his face heating up as a blush dusted his cheeks. “well i uh…” he stuttered, avoiding alhaitham’s gaze at all costs. “you?” “i… wanted attention..” kaveh sighed. “your attention.”
alhaitham paused at that. kaveh, someone who claims to hate alhaitham, wanted his attention?
“oh.” the scribe replied, unsure of what to say. kaveh blushed furiously, hoping the couch would swallow him whole and let him hide for all eternity.
“y-you were busier than usual! of course i’d start to miss you!” the architect whined. “ugh, you are so horrible!” “you should’ve said so, kaveh.” alhaitham smirked, scratching at kaveh’s armpits, earning himself a loud screech of laughter. “i would’ve paid you some attention.”
“wahahahahaha!! haithahaham nohohoho wahahahait!”
