I know I haven’t touched this comic in “over a year(!)”, but it is still something I do want to work on; just doesn’t really capture the same sort of intrigue as when I first started making it. However just yesterday I started getting back to work in making rough drafts for upcoming pages. These three pages here I had stored for a while, and had debated if I should share them or wait until I had the final product to unpack. Since I know it’ll take much more effort to getting around making the final product for each page, I figured I’d show some WIP.

101 PLOT BUNNIES / Dear Prudence, a Theodore Laurence Fanfiction

PRUDENCE POIRIER WAS ACCUSTOMED TO HIDING IN THE SHADOWS. With her father fighting in the Civil War, she and her mother occupied themselves with finding work so that, when the time came, their family could buy a proper home upon the patriarch’s return.

While scouring the streets of Boston, Prudence and her mother, Mabel, ran into James Laurence, a man who occupied a house larger than he could ever need with only himself and his grandson. After Mabel detailed her prowess as a housekeeper and her daughter’s green thumb for the neglected greenhouse he spoke of, Mr. Laurence gladly accepted the help with the condition that the two women would take up two of his empty rooms, in an attempt to liven up the house into a home once again.

Mabel was grateful that she had come across a genuine man such as Mr. Laurence, rather than being stuck in an unideal situation. Prudence, upon hearing Mr. Laurence’s mention of a family full of daughters that lived across the road, was ecstatic at the prospect of making new friends. What took her most by surprise, though, was the friendliness of Mr. Laurence’s aforementioned grandson.

Listening to her mother’s words of caution, Prudence kept her distance from the boy who seemed to have too-good of intentions. Until, letters with the salutation “Dear Prudence” began welcoming her in the greenhouse most mornings, written in what could only be his impeccable, product-of-being-privately-tutored handwriting.

Mabel instructed Prudence to be respectful, and how disrespectful would it be if she didn’t write to him back?

I have some thoughts about a certain player. So many people have been shitting on Katie McCabe recently. She has definitely not been at her best but she plays so much and she has been under a lot of pressure for club but especially for country. Ireland was so close to qualifying for the euros for the first time and ass the captain she was under so much pressure to push the team over the line. You could see how much it crushed her to not win that final game.

Also something that has been on my mind for over a year now is how Katie is refed. I’ve noticed it with other platers but I’ll talk about it with her now. It feels to me that referees dont ref the game in front of them they ref the reputation of the player. Now what i mean by that is that their reputation will precede the player so the ref will always have their eyes on them. Contact that would have been let go by another ref or even the same ref done by another player is punished. The second Katie touches a player the whistle is blown and dont get me wrong Katie deserves many of the fouls she gives away but things that are carded on her would just be a warning for others. I can only imagine how frustrating that is for her as a player too. It must really wind her up which then leads her to feed into the foul and the decent. I also think she gets a lot of arsenal cards for decent cos she keeps talking to the ref and she’s not supposed to when she’s not captain. I just feel like there are some things that Katie is getting penalized for that the refs would let go if another player did them. Even players on her own team get away with stuff she doesn’t. It isn’t fair to me and clearly not to her either.

Quickly another thing is some players get fouled a lot and it doesn’t get called at all. People brought it up about Olivia smith cos Leah fouled her good and it wasn’t called and in that instance i disagree, Olivia goes down really hard when she falls I’ve noticed that when she plays for Canada she needs to get her muscle up. I do agree that some players are unfairly refereed. An example is Mayra rameniez she gets fouled all of the time by all teams in the wsl and even the uwcl. But she rarely gets fouls called on her. Similarly with Bunny Shaw. Many people bring up the racial aspect of their circumstances because those two specifically are tall, strong women of colour and the refs may not view their pains as real but if you were to look at the wsl last season they both missed out on parts of the season with injuries which could be attributed to the knocks they took from the fouls they had during games.

Idk what the point to my rambling is. I just want fair and even referring and players to stay safe that’s all

I was inspired by that quote to make this illustration of being surrounded by such characters that make my heart smile. There's my best friend @thegroovyfeline, a couple of my favorite OCs, and my favorite character, Alastor from Hazbin Hotel.

I started this back in December of last year, and have only just now finished it. 😅

An orange bunny hops onto their table while Katie and Tom were in the middle of filming. Her green nose twitches as she looks at Killjoy, completely unbothered that she interrupted their show.

A camera man noticing the orange menace rushes the two news anchor to cut to a break. Killjoy frustratingly obliges when she sees something out of the corner of her eye and she turns her head in a sharp whipping motion.

Katie says as she slams her seat into Tom’s while he braces himself for whatever chaos may ensue next.

This one was a long time coming, updates to The Chamaeleon Three! It was a difficult and delicate balance to strike with editing each of these, making sure their concepts and symbol integration were strengthened while streamlining a few things as well.

Lepus’s palette and design accents are very similar to Centaurus’s right now, as I plan to overhaul Rus’s colour palette with his own tweaks later. Between the two I think it fits Lepus a bit more.

I was already happy with Lynx’s prior pose so most of that was copied over here, and overall his tweaks are slightly more subtle compared to the others.

It was just a matter of cutting back on a few things to balance the level of detail and colour placement, which was easier said than done! Chamaeleon especially, I didn’t want her to lose her neon flare when trying to simplify parts of her design, so I had to take a long break after looping back on myself too many times. I’m not sure why it didn’t occur to me earlier to combine the concept of the mottled skin of a chameleon with spray paint splatter for her, but better late than never I guess! I wanted it to be more obvious that she’s a tagger without having to rely on her holding her spray gun or paint cans all the time.

I’m not sure who got the biggest glowup between them, but I’m super happy with all three, especially the improvements in the posing and overall anatomy/structure. This was quite a few months in the making, but it’s nice to see it complete now :) ---------- The constellation symbols for Chamaeleon, Lynx, and Lepus were originally designed by Denis Moskowitz and released to the public domain
