11, 32, and 40 😌
Awesome! These are fun ones!
11. Books and/or authors who influenced you the most
Oh, this is tricky, because I used to be an extremely avid reader that would fly through books each week. I think the top would have to be, in no particular order:
Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle
Maggie Stiefvater’s Wolves of Mercy Falls, Raven Cycle, and Scorpio Races
Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus
Kathy Reichs’ Virals (especially Seizure)
Erin Hunter’s Warriors
Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events
James Patterson’s Maximum Ride
Kelley Armstrong’s Age of Legends
And a good chunk of the Star Wars EU (which I think is called Legends now?)
I think Paolini and Stiefvater might have had the most influence since I adore their use of imagery. Anytime I veer towards horror, though, you can probably thank Armstrong. I’m also trying very hard not to let Tamsyn Muir’s writing style (which I love) dominate my own while I’m rereading the first two Locked Tomb books.
As much as I hate to admit it (but I have to, considering the fandom The Mad Witch belongs to), Harry Potter has had a huge impact on my writing. J.K. Rowling is a TERF and a horribly problematic, disappointing, and harmful person, but I reread those books so many times growing up that the characters and world have stuck with me years later.
32. Most difficult character to write
Dumbledore. Without a doubt. His dialogue is infuriatingly difficult to get even close to right. McGonagall is a close second and Linnet third for the same reason.
40. Share some backstory for one of your characters
It’s hard to pick just one, so let’s do four: the Mad Witch trio and my Fallout OC Ros.
Sam: Orion Amari is like Sam’s weird, fun uncle that will randomly show up out of the blue every so often. He took over coaching her in Quidditch after her dad died.
Mason: Mason is a middle child. He has two sisters, one older and one younger, both Muggles. They fight all the time, but they have each other’s backs.
Robin: Robin’s house is in Hastings. I think. I can’t find my notes.
Ros: I’ve mentioned before that Ros is an ecologist, which is true, but she only does research in her spare time. Occasionally, she’ll take a job as a farmhand or a caravan guard, but most of the time, she works as a pole dancer. She finds it a lot more fun than getting shot at.
Thanks for the ask!
Answers are for this ask game. 13, 24, 29, 38, 43, and 48 are also in progress.

Hey all Virals Fans, I’m back with a new trailer for Seizure and a new blog! More edits and trailer are to come so stay tuned, and I hope you enjoy!
Seizure Synopsis: Ever since Tory Brennan and her friends rescued Cooper, a kidnapped wolf pup with a rare strain of canine parvovirus, they’ve turned from regular kids into a crime-solving pack! But now the very place that brought them together – the Loggerhead Island Research Institute – is out of funding and will have to shut down. That is, unless the Virals can figure out a way to save it!

I’m reading Seizure by Kathy Reichs and I noticed something cute. You might recognize Kathy Reichs from her more popular series starring Temperance Brennan. It’s the inspiration for the TV show Bones. In the series that I’m reading, the main character, Tory, is Temperance’s niece, and Tory is interested in anthropology, following in her aunt’s footsteps. When Tory is hanging out with her dad watching TV, he asks if the show Bones is okay. It’s a cute little Easter egg, but it begs the question: in this universe, does Temperance Brennan have a documentary-style TV show about her?

The show Outer Banks is literally The Virals by Kathy and Brendan Reichs but more violent. For example:
1) 4 kids living on a historical barrier island (was actually set on the North Carolina or Virginia coast but was filmed in South Carolina where The Virals takes place).
2) Each kid’s personality comes pretty close to each of The Virals with a few extremes (ex: J.J. - has the humor and playfulness of Hiram, but tales violence to a whole other level; J.B. - is similar to Ben who emotionally struggles and is put in tough situations, also very quiet and can be broody; Kiara - somewhat similar to Tory. She’s adventurous and cares about the environment and her friends. Pope - is basically Shelton. He’s smart, logical, and anxious/worried about what could go wrong and thinks almost every plan is a bad one. Topper - somewhat similar to Chance and uses his wealth to make questionable decisions/finds out the Pougs like Chance found out the Virals. Sarah - similar to Madison and her gang.
3) Rich vs. Poor mindset and character dynamics (Poug’s vs. Kooks).
4) 2 of the kids fall in love but are too shy to admit it at first (J.B. and Kiara are similar to Ben and Tory’s relationship).
5) They ride around on a boat, find clues, and solve mysteries all while evading the cops or trying not to get killed by people who want what they have (the sunken boat, J.J.’s dad disappearing, the compass, etc).
6) The search for treasure gives me serious Seizure/Code vibes.
7) The lighthouse and scenery shots are exactly how I imagined them in The Virals books.
8) The whole show honestly is the closest thing I’ve ever come Virals like content, and I absolutely love it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves The Virals. I want to make some trailers for Exposure and Terminal with scenes from it now.
* Will update as I watch more of the show and find similarities

Book review-#1 Virals by Kathy Reichs
It was very good. I loved all the characters and the plot was amazing. There were parts were i laughed and raged. It involved murder which i personally do not go in that general direction in books but Kathy wrote this book perfectly and i loved when the tables turned and surprised when i saw how deep connections can go. I say "i love" a lot i know but it is an amazing book and i'm #TeamBen. I give it five out of five books and i will definitely be finishing the series.
Books in the series
#1 Virals
#2 Seizures
#3 Code
#4 Exposure
#5 Terminal
And the collection of short stories

Trace evidence

#BookReview Seizure by Kathy Reichs
#BookReview Seizure by Kathy Reichs
I was absolutely thrilled that I bought the first two books in this series together, because I NEEDED to continue this series. The first book, Virals, was an absolute hit for me and Seizure continued the insanity!
This time around Tory, Ben, Shelton, Hi and Cooper are off on another adventure…. except… get this… PIRATES. The loss of LIRI absolutely sucked because the loss of potential science…

Strike Lightning by Steve Cole
Wildcard ~ July
★ ★ ★ ★ ☆
My opinion in three sentences:
Of all those since Cole took over the Young Bond series, this is my favourite, although from the premises, I'd have placed bets on it being either of the others! Action abounded in Strike Lightning and it was written in both an engaging and realistic manner (or at least as realistic as any of James Bond's adrenaline-filled antics go...) Plus, this one was really well paced so there was no dragging middle, overwhelming start or disappointing end - I hope Cole's future installments continue in this fashion!
(Without spoiling anything) the best bit:
Cole nails the balance of main plots and sideplots in this installment. Usually I've struggled with his Young Bond's in their over-focus on sideplots and poor pacing, but this time Cole gets it right, and that is something to write home about.
A warning for the book:
In order to achieve the well-balanced pacing, there's a time jump about a third of the way through, and it's a little muddled, if I'm honest. Sometimes it's present-day, sometimes something that happened a month ago, and occasionally a memory looking back on events. Without proper signposting, it takes a while to readjust each time it changes, (but it is only for a chapter or so.)
Recommended for fans of:
- The Paranoia Plot by A.J. Butcher - Ark Angel by Anthony Horowitz - Seizure by Kathy Reichs

Seizures by Kathy Reichs and Brendan Reichs is book two in the Virals series. "The research facility on Loggerhead Island is being closed because if budget cuts. Tory Brennan (Temperance Brennan's niece) and friends want to find a way to get the money to keep it open. And keep their pack together. They decide to look for some long-lost pirate treasure. Mayhem ensues." One reason I like this series so much is that the setting is right down the road in the South Carolina Low Country. Reichs has taken liberties with some of the geography, but Bull Island is still a special place. Boneyard Beach is a special place. A ghost tour is part of the story and Reichs references some of the actual ghosts that are mentioned on the ghost tour. Nice entertaining read from Kathy and Brennan. #seizure #virals #kathyreichs #brennanreichs #lowcountry #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookshelf #books #booknerd #bookhoarder #bookworm #booklover #bookish #bookreview #bookclub #bookaddict #bookaholic #bookcover #bookhaul #bibliophile #igreads #goodreads #homelibrary #bradsbooks #bradslibrary #ya #youngadult #youngadultfiction
