Behold the work of Kathleen Ryan. She uses semi precious stones like onyx, smokey quartz, lapis and garnets attached with stainless steel pins to a polystyrene and wood form. On average a 30” wide lemon can take two months and have 10,000 beads.

Art Weekend - Bad Lemon (Tart) by Kathleen Ryan

As a allegory for decandence and the circle of life, Kathleen Ryan's Bad Fruit sculptures depict oversized fruit slowly rotting away. The pristine fruit is created with common beads made of glass but the rot and mold are created with precious and semi-precious jewels. Ryan states that despite being the rot, it is the mold that is "the most alive part". Bad Lemon (Tart) was created with citrine, amber, turquoise, jade, amethyst, garnet, and serpentine among other precious stones.
