I think my roman empire is that Charles "I would only go to hell for you/ I rather spent the eternity on earth with you than paradise/ we have an eternity to figure this out" Rowland is already more invested in this relationship than many people that ARE toghether are in theirs.
They live already a healthier married life than most of reddits AITA!

The Remus Lupin Question
I can't help myself. I can't imagine Remus Lupin as Badboy casanova and I can't imagine him just like grandad.
i think he is both and nothing of it at the same time.
He is the mastermind behind the marauders pranks.
He is some sort of self destrsuctive, like forgetting to eat or not getting enough sleep.
With his lycantrophy goes some sort of depression and a lot of physical and emotional pain.
Not Remus was the mother hen of the marauders, but James who especially fussed about Remus after full moons.
He had grown over the years, his friendship to the marauders, the girls, some ravenclaws and hufflepuffs and even some of the slytherins, pushed his self esteem.
He knows, because of his loving parents how healthy relationships work and I believe that he has to give Sirius steadiness and safety when they first started dating, because Sirius never really had a rolemodel for a healthy lasting relationship.
Sometimes he is the one that talks some sense in the marauders and sometimes he has the ideas to let their pranks go through the roof.
He likes to read, because books were his portals to the world when he was little, but also likes to spent time with the people he cares about. A win win is when he can spent time with Reegulus and Lily talking about books oder reading toghether.
So on the one hand he is really vulnerable and relies on his friends and boyfriends and on the other hand he is very confindent and stable and some sort of glue for his friends and spot of safety for his boyfriend.

Bring Back the Bombshells Batgirls!
In helping a friend of mine map out who all has been Batgirl across various DC continuities, I remembered a little jaunt to TVtropes where it mentioned that in a charming little number called Bombshells, the batgirl identity is shared by a baseball team.
This reminded me to actually go READ Bombshells, and oh. My. GOSH. It is the BEST FUCKING THING EVER!
What is Bombshells?
Basically, almost every male superhero got yeeted from the story or relegated to side character/civilian, while every female superhero takes the spotlight and gets to KICK SOME NAZI ASS (it's set during world war 2). Plenty of people get spotlight, but I'm gonna argue that the MAIN characters are probably Kate Kane's batwoman, Diana of Themyscira's Wonder Woman, Mera's Aquawoman (she hates that name, lol), Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, Zatanna, and Kara Starikov's Supergirl. All the storylines tend to revolve around them.
Oh, also it's super gay. Like, every single character is a lesbian or bi, there's tons of ladies kissing and dating and having implied sex, and at least one character---one of the batgirls actually---is trans.
In summary, go read bombshells it's really good, but today I'm here to specifically talk about:
The Batgirls (and boys)
"One for the ribbon, two for the pearls! Three for the crimefighting---
Tumblr media
So first off, Bombshells is an elseworld, so it can do whatever the fuck it wants with backstories and shit.
Subsequently; this version of Kate Kane is a major league baseball player, and her Batwoman costume is literally just a pallet swap of her baseball costume (plenty of people figure out her "secret" identity because of this, but she's not super concerned about it). She uses an actual bat as her main weapon as Batwoman, and it kicks ass. More fanfic writers, and hell, comics writers need to hand the Batfamily some baseball bats, because it gives us scenes like this:
Tumblr media
Or this:
Tumblr media
(Yes her bat has a gun, it's supplied by Amanda Waller through goverment money, don't question it. Her baseballs are also explosives).
Oh, and also this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, point is, Batwoman has a bat and it's great. But this means when Gotham's bat-weilding protector gets drafted into the Bombshells to go fight Nazi's, some new faces have to pick up the slack in Gotham.
And so:
Tumblr media
Inspired by their vigilante/baseball hero, Harper Row, Kathy Duquesne, and Nell Little pick up some bats of their own and start busting up crime! The three of them are mechanics, that old car is their batmobile, and they're the best of friends!
Of this original trio, Kathy is "the brass" or the leader, and she remains nominally in charge through the whole thing. Nell is "the brawn" and while every batgirl is good in a fight, Nell is a bit of a demolition specialist. Finally you have Harper, "the brain" who invents their gadgets, works on their batmobile, and also jokes that she's the mascot, as this whole thing was her idea.
They don't stay a trio for very long though! They're quickly joined by "the beauty" Alysia Yeoh, an old friend of Kathy's, in an effort to break Cullen Row out of a prison-like orphanage (she's the t-girl btw):
Tumblr media
You may notice another girl crouched in the corner up there too! That's Bette Kane, Kate's niece and the rightful owner of Kane Industries who will forcibly take it over, clean it up, and use it for good on her 18th birthday in like a week!
In the meantime though, she heard about the batgirls and decided she wanted in! She crashes their jailbreak and helps them wreck shop! She mostly shares the "brass" role with Kathy---a leader in her own right.
Anyway, their now quintet quickly finds the awful headmistress of the Pinkney orphanage berating one Tim Drake, who still has a living dad somewhere, but was snatched up by a dirty cop because this whole city runs on Newsies rules (not even kidding, I'll get there in a sec). Turns out Tim and Alysia are old best friends. Anyway, Tim fills them in on the sitch: the headmisstress has been using the orphans as slave labor to build war robots for the nazis.
The batgirls (now including Tim!), bust up the basement and the robots, free all the orphanage kids, including Cullen, toss the awful headmistress and the dirty cop helping her to one Detectice Maggie Sawyer---Kate's wife---and the day is saved!
In the subsequent week, Bette takes over Kane Industries, starts funneling funds into housing for immigrants and refugees and relief and aid and all that good stuff, and also recruits the final batgirl of the team: Felicity Smoak (the chick in braids)! Thus we have a full team!
Tumblr media
Who's who in the alt text
I'm only halfway through Bombshells, but the batgirls and their adventures are a recurring plot thread, since protecting Gotham is entirely up to them while Kate is away. They gain lots of other allies and enemies (including one hispanic immigrant Lois Lane who does straight up help them pull a newsies and make their own newspaper with the real news in it at one point), and their sections are probably one of my favorite parts about the comic. It just feels so sweet and high school, while still feeling Batman-esque/Gotham-typical.
Why You Should Care:
Now. I may only be halfway through Bombshells, but I am in LOVE. With the story and the characterizations and everything!!! And the batgirls are a personal fave of mine cuz I'm a sucker for found family and teens fighting crime and bat-weilding superheroes!
But my point is: for all that fanfic loves these tropes too, there is NO fanfiction for them (or at least not on ao3). There's practically nothing for the Bombshells continuity PERIOD, which is a shame, but also to be expected for an elseworld.
But that's why I'm here and telling you about it!
You guys! This is fanfiction! We love flinging the batfamily through alternate universes and making lots of different characters take on the familiar Batgirl and Robin roles!
Why not bring forth the Bombshells Batgirls?
If you're writing your own elseworld, I suggest you nab this adorable team, or something like it! If you're writing an alt universe crossover, feature these guys!
They are the Batfamily found family you want! They CALL THEMSELVES a Bat-family! They all move in together! They loooooovvveee each other! And, as is the nature of the Batgirl mantle, they do what they do largely as independent operatives without adult supervision!
I would really love to see these guys yeeted into an alternate universe and have to cope with just HOW different their continuity is. Not only will they inevitably be flung way into the future, since they're around in the 40s, but in most continuities they're completely unconnected from each other and are absolutely not a team of bat-weilding crime fighters! It would be so baffling for any mainline batgirl and robin to meet a team that is so disconnected from them and so unconditionally supportive of each other and so Badass Adorable!
In Summary:
I may have lost the plot a little with this, but my points are:
Bombshells is really good and you should all go read it
Bombshells has a team of adorable bat-weilding batgirls that has all the found family crime fighting tropes you could want without the bad blood of the mainline batfam
More people should write fanfiction for Bombshells
The Bombshells!Batgirls in particular I think are a great place to start with that. Nab the premise of a baseball team being crime fighters, or Gotham being protected by a group of scrappy children whenever the big bad vigilantes are away, or give these colorful kids their Bombshells!backstories.
Also use the Bombshells universe in particular when you're flinging bats across the multiverse. Yeet these babies into a mainline comics verse and let the juxtaposition and chaos run WILD! There's a million and one of these fics for the Young Justice cartoon, I know ya'll can do it for Bombshells
Also. Take every opportunity to give your Batfamily, and your Batgirls in particular, an actual bat. It'll be so much fun, I promise
Anyway, I'll probably be back with another Bombshells rant later, PEACE!

Okay, it's late where I am, and I should be asleep, but instead, I'm posting this, with a tired brain, because my brain won't let me sleep, til I make this, so I'm sorry, I'm warning it's a long post.... Read if you want to go insane.
Anyways-
WHY THE HECK, DID I THINK OTHER FRANKIE COULD BREAK HIS CHAIR???
I was like, "oh haha! He is too big for his chair! Just look at him vs the baby chair!"
But then I realized-
I HAVE THE CHAIR AND I KNOW ITS WRONG!!!
Proof, this is my chair:
Tumblr media
For the reasoning why I have it, the answer is, this was my chair from when I was 5 years old. I'm a kleptomaniac and so I kept it for I think 16 to 17 year, maybe more? (I can't do math right now-) either or, I have kept it... BECAUSE IT CANT BREAK!!!
I swear, this chair is so indestructible, I have used it as a stool, I have had really heavy stuff on it cuz I needed a surface, I have thrown stuff at it and it at things and both ways, the item was more damaged, then this bloody chair.
These chairs are so just-
There is no way, Other Frankie could break this chair, he could throw it into the incinerator and it would probs come out fine!!!
SO! For anyone else who thought like me, and was like, oh yeah, that chair would break because its so small and he is a giant robot, no he wouldn't, that chair would kill him before he destroyed it.
----
So now art idea for me later.... Lucky beating Other Frankie up with one of these chairs.
Yay....

End Credits in Film
The credits that roll at the end of a film are crucial for more than one reason
Obviously, there is the acknowledgment of every hand and mind that went into the project, but
There's also the allowance to wind down, to take in what you've just watched; even if you've seen it a hundred times, it's part of watching the film
And of course the score/soundtrack. The music chosen for the end credits is very intentional, even in many movies made today
It doesn't matter that some movies have more disposable end credit tracks
The point is that there is value in the end credit for even more reasons than I listed here
I bring all of this up because I've encountered - what is for me - a new issue with streaming movies. Not only do they include ad break style fade-to-blacks even when you're not stuck with ads during your viewing (I always keep the remote handy to mute the ads when they come up and don't even glance at the screen because fuck ads), but now I find that some services play the end credits at breakneck speed, also cutting off the music prematurely. So not only can I not use the music and energy to wind down and absorb my experience, but I can't read and appreciate (and easily look into more should I want to know more of their work whatever their task) the many people who made the film.
A lot of people say the art of film is dying. I couldn't disagree more. I lived through the sludge that the 90s and -shudder- the 00s gave us, and so much of what I'm actually watching today is fucking incredible. The ability for smaller creators - and creators from almost any country - to put out next-level work available at my fingertips is unprecedented on every conceivable level. It's the services that largely make these films available that are doing their damnedest to make these experiences as expedited and protracted as possible.
Remove our awareness of what's going on around us and we are that much more malleable, that much more suggestible to blind purchasing, binge watching, and other obnoxious tactics that gain billionaires more money, and leave us as the scapegoats, the ones to blame for our "shorter attention spans" and our "fickle" manner of consuming media.

Sometimes I look at Lancer's core book and just think about how lacking it is in significant details for all the factions, like who is the current leaders of Union, to founders and owners of the many corporate entities.
I know that doesn't sound like exciting lore to anyone, but for Union, there's no one like the Camerons from Battletech or the Karl Franz from Warhammer Fantasy. And I can see that it was probably purposely implemented like this for the reason that these entities are bigger than the identities that lead them, and that's why when a name like Johnathan Harrison pops up along sith a small blurb of who he is, we start to realize his significance and why Harrison Armory is the way it is. He was basically a fascistic General from Seccomm that fled and made his own Union how he saw fit, and his clones still live up to his legacy to the current setting of Lancer.
At the same time, Union doesn't have any of that. There's no lore about some, or any politician of government in the Core Book at least other than the seats and chairs that they fill. The reason for this is to give the players the ability to make their own interpretations with the world, but it's really saying something when your big government super power claiming to be in a utopian golden age doesn't have a face to its actual organization.
(Side note: if anyone ever tells you that their realm is a Utopia, you should be taking that the same way that someone says that a ship is 'Unsinkable'. Sorry to burst your bubble Pilot NET, but some of you really need to read between the lines about this. Especially with how much of a bureaucratic nightmare DoJ HR is.)
I know that it's very much the case that Massif press could have done this intentionally to show in the Lancer setting that the sum is bigger and more significant than all the parts added together. The world of the setting is too big to care too much about one individual or planet without weeding in a reason why in most cases because unless you're playing a mission book like Solstice Rain, you probably wouldn't be visiting any of the planets or people brought up in the first place. But the thing is, to me, is that this really makes Lancer less lively than I think it should. When I read about the Albatross, I wanna know about their heroes and significant feats and journeys. I could just play and Albatross, but having record of the daily life at the perspective of a nomadic Lancer would have been told so much more than I think the actual descriptions give.
It's why I love the blurb of text on the Sisyphus NHP. It builds a character, tells a narrative, and humanizes this being most probably would only be used to get a better roll. It also implies how cycling actually works for an NHP and the significance to it. And from all this, we can see that Sisyphus knows that his fate is to be cycled and die over and over again. Something barely given full page and it's just text on equipment.
And yet we don't have anything like that for the bigger picture. We don't know that the leaders of Union generally feel or think about the world surrounding us. We don't have a set uniform for Union or any other of the major players. And as a person who was fascinated with historical things like what soldiers wore during the battle of waterloo, or what camo patterns did a certain tank use, I feel like it's a significant diservice to not give us official uniforms and outfits for Union.
Imagine what cultural reflections that could have impacted the clothing an officer would wear.
I don't know, Lancer really likes to skim on the actually interesting descriptions, but I still love it. It's just that it really doesn't give me enough reason to care about things like Cradle or the Solar System in its current timeline. There is a lot of telling, and not showing in the lore for me, but they don't even tell things that historical nuts like me might be interested in.

I gotta rant about something that as a Olivia Benson fan first, really bothers me. Elliot would’ve NEVER left Kathy for Olivia. Ever. They had to kill her off to even give eo a chance. And I just feel like Olivia deserves better than that. Better than being somebody’s second choice. They can spin it however they want to. The facts will always be the facts. I don’t think Elliot would’ve ever looked twice at her (in a romantic way), had Kathy lived. I always did feel like Olivia loved him more than he did her. I also feel like that’s what scares her the most about Rafael, is for him she’s his first and only choice. And she’s never really experienced that type of unconditional love with anyone.
You’re 100000% correct. Elliot would’ve never given Olivia the time of day if Kathy was still alive. He had ample opportunity to leave her, to get a divorce, for god’s sake, the show was in season 12 when he left. He spent 12 years as Olivia’s partner, never once making a move, not even when he was separated. I don’t doubt that Elliot feels something for Olivia, I don’t doubt that he loves her in his own selfish way, but she is NOT the love of his life. If she was, if she was truly the woman he couldn’t live without, Italy wouldn’t have been far enough. When Kathy was leaving him, he continued to show up, and yes there is a difference because she had his kids, but also he wanted HER! As evidenced by them making Eli. Olivia has always been his work wife. The wife he goes to for emotional support so his real wife doesn’t see his demons, the toll the job takes on him. Rafael has always only had eyes for her.
He doesn’t have a wife and 5 kids holding him back. He doesn’t have the baggage of a failed relationship 15 years ago (Brian Cassidy) holding him back. He’s never going to ask her to give up her job to ride off into the sunset with him (Ed Tucker). If she let herself, if she truly let herself fall into him, she could be happy, loved, cherished, and that scares the shit out of her. Because who could ever love someone made from a monster? Who’s been broken over and over by countless evil men? Who could actually want her? Who would actually choose her? And Rafael is right there answering every single one of those questions with “me”, and that terrifies her. She’s never been loved unconditionally.
And the idea that somehow Kathy is the reason Elliot never pursued Olivia is ridiculous. The fandom paints Kathy as this jealous bitter wife who won’t let Elliot go, when she did!!! And then she didn’t even know for sure that Elliot and Olivia hadn’t talked in 10 years. She still praises their partnership on her deathbed. Elliot is the one who couldn’t let Kathy go. Elliot is the one who abandoned Olivia without a word because “her voice would’ve made him stay” as if her voice had ever been enough to make him choose her.

Just finished watching Misery (1990) with kathy bates and when I tell you it is the PERFECT movie for you folk who enjoy twisted kidnapper vs. Kidnappee scenarios, you'll love this movie. The synopsis got me interested right away but when I watched it I enjoyed it ten times more than i expected. It's nothing revolutionary, but it's got that dark fiction edge that i think really made it enjoyable, especially with how smart james caans character is. I love a good mc who tries to manipulate their kidnapper back and succeeds

Elliot is a shit dad too. When Kathleen was exhibiting Bipolar symptoms, he'd rather pretend nothing is wrong with her than try and help her get better.
I understand finding out your child having a serious mental health issue is upsetting because my parents struggled deeply with mine but at the end of the day, they stayed and they're doing everything they can to support me.
Kathy stayed with Kathleen to make sure her daughter is safe and knows she's loved and asked what she can do in order to help Kathleen.
The only time Stabler cared was because it'd make him look bad and even then he wanted to sweep it under the rug.
Don't tell me that's what good parents do because they would focus on their child and make sure they get the help they need. Then he has the audacity to get pissed off at Kathy for trying to do what he's avoiding? He can go kick rocks.

something doubly evil abt Kathy Hochul trying to ban masks after killing congestion pricing, at least temporarily (which would have brought in badly needed funds to repair and upgrade the subways and also would have led to cleaner air because there would be fewer cars in Manhattan), which she did, btw, in direct opposition to the state assembly which had been working on that plan forever. This as she and Adams continue this insane narrative of some giant spike in violent crime on the subways so that they can justify spending absurd amounts of money putting cops and fucking state troopers on platforms to fine fare evaders and kick unhoused people out into the rain.
The two of them are going against the will of the people to turn the subways into derelict surveillance states, knowing that millions of people rely on them every day.
I still can’t get to work on time because of delays but no worries, because now we’ve saved the subways from the nefarious ways of *checks notes* people wearing covid masks or trying to find shelter.

I have a story to tell, haha.
When I was at my OIC, there was a place that was offering programming classes as a "equal opportunity program" with York Solutions - this is known as their B2E program, I was eager to take it - and people that are offered it already know why.
I was very optimistic about this, only to be stumped by their fucking logic tests. A timed, 1 hour logic and mathmatic test.
I really didn't know how I could even prepare for it.
This completely threw me out of wanting to do programming, as I felt like I didn't have the mindset for such things...
