Terror lives in the shadows in a pair of mesmerizingly moody horror milestones conjured from the imagination of Val Lewton, the visionary producer-auteur who turned our fears of the unseen and the unknown into haunting excursions into existential dread. As head of RKO’s B-horror-movie unit during the 1940s, Lewton, working with directors such as Jacques Tourneur and Mark Robson, brought a new sophistication to the genre by wringing chills not from conventional movie monsters but from brooding atmosphere, suggestion, and psychosexual unease. Suffused with ritual, mysticism, and the occult, the poetically hypnotic I Walked with a Zombie and the shockingly subversive The Seventh Victim are still-tantalizing dreams of death that dare to embrace the darkness.

It is ten o’clock, or perhaps eleven, it’s late, it’s early, the sun rises, night falls, the sounds never quite cease altogether, time never stops completely.
You see, one loves the sunset when one is so sad.
No one wants to believe that the garden is dying, that the garden’s heart has swollen under the sun, that the garden is slowly forgetting its green moments.
I was walking down the road with two friends when the sun set; suddenly, the sky turned as red as blood. I stopped and leaned against the fence, feeling unspeakably tired.
I felt like I was sort of disappearing. It was that kind of a crazy afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sun out or anything, and you felt like you were disappearing every time you crossed a road.

Katherine's Journal Page 38: Freeing the Genie
Dear Sims of the future,
I decide that i didn’t need two more wishes. I only needed on: to free the genie. And so that is what i wished for. And I had to go on a wild goose chase in order to accomplish the goal.
The genie gave me a set of instructions.
1st: The genie cannot break the chains of the lamp alone! You must destroy the lamp together, but it will not be an easy process. To weaken the lamp, first you must freeze it in the breath of coldest winter! (I thought that this was going to be a while until I could do this because it was just now fall time), but on the back of the paper it stated Place the genie lamp in the refrigerator to “Freeze the Lamp.” that i can do.
After enduring the bitter cold and near frostbitten fingers, I noticed that the lamp looked slightly different. More importantly, both the genie and I felt a change in the magic surrounding the lamp and could tell it was time to prepare for the next step in our quest to free the genie.
2nd: The genie cannot break the chains of the lamp alone! The lamp is weaker now, but still cannot be over come. Next, you must burn the lamp in the heat of a thousand fires. (what was i too do, i didn’t own a BBQ or a fire place) but just like the first step on the back there was a note: Place the genie lamp in the oven to “heat the lamp.
I could feel the blistering heat as I watched the lamp cook like a stuffed turkey, Until a slight shift in the atmosphere alerted me and the genie to its unstable state.
3rd: The genie cannot break the chains of the lamp alone! The lamp is weaker now, but still its hold still will not break. Your final tst is to plunge the lam into the darkness below the earth, wher ethe walking dead lurk. (So, i go on an underground adventure. The holes that mom makes in the back yard all the time ok, I can do this one.) And then I saw the back which said “Explore Catacombs” with the genie lamp. Well, I guess that makes more sense.
This was not my favorite part of this. I saw and experienced some terrible, horrible things! I don’t think that Sims were meant to hear sounds like the ones that I heard echoing through the depths of the catacombs. And it will be a very long time before I am even comfortable talking about it.
