Work wrapped up early, but I am too tired and hot to play tourist. I did walk out for an early dinner, but now spinning to a podcast. Still working through the 9 ounces of blue batts on my dragonfly spindle that I have been traveling with. I added some dragonfly stickers to my spindle bottle so it matches.
I place a paper quill on my spindle before spinning to make it easier to transfer my cop off my spindle. I will then put the cops onto my lazy Kate for plying. That way I only have to pack one spindle

Bell Witch Story
The Bell Witch story originated in Adams, Tennessee, in the early 1800s and is one of America's most well-known and longest-lasting ghost stories. The story is about the Bell family, who started having scary and strange things happen in their home around 1817. The evil force specifically went after John Bell, the family father, and his daughter Betsy. Noises like banging, scratching, and chains dragging across floors were the first signs of trouble. These turned into physical strikes; Betsy was hit, pinched, and pulled by something she couldn't see. In fact, John Bell himself had strange illnesses that got worse over time. As the hauntings worsened, neighbors and even famous people, such as future President Andrew Jackson, went to the Bell house to see what was happening. When asked what it was, the thing said it was the spirit of Kate Batts, an angry neighbor. It appeared to be very clever and had a grudge against John Bell. The pain went on until John Bell's death in 1820, which the witch said she had planned. After he died, the activity slowed down a lot but didn't stop completely, leaving a trail of fear and mystery. Since then, the Bell Witch story has become a mainstay of Southern myth, with many books, movies, and other versions of the story.

AAAA!! HI! THANK YOU! I CAN FINALLY RANT ABOUT THE BLOG'S NAMESAKE!
Let me introduce to you my OC, Mothwitch!
Tumblr media
(Art super graciously doodled by my friend who doesn't have any social media (that they want me to promote at least) sadly.)
🧠: What was their original character concept? Do they have any specific theming?
Moths are my favorite animals and Witches are my favorite aesthetic so that was what I built off of!
Narratively she is primarily based off of the West Virginian Mothman, having grayish skin, bright red eyes and very imposing silhouette, being that she's a staggering 7 feet (or 2.1 meters) tall!
However she is also partially based on the legend of The Bell Witch, which is reflected most clearly with her true name, Belladona "Belle" Batts, referencing both the Bell family and Kate Batts, the name of the witch/poltergeist that haunted the former!
Though her body's color scheme doesn't reflect it, her clothing is actually colored (somewhat) after the Polyphemus Moth (Antharaea Polyphemus) using more browns and yellows as well as dark purple/blues in parts like her hat and gloves.
Tumblr media
🌠: What is their Afflatus? Why are they associated with that Afflatus?
Mothwitch's afflatus is Plant! She mostly deals in potions like Sotheby, and she lives (used to till she was recruited) in a cabin somewhere in the Appalachian mountains, specifically having an affinity for Sweet Maple forests and trees!

Why You Shouldn’t Whistle In The Woods: Appalachian Creatures and Folklore
In the Appalachian mountains, small communities whisper tales of creatures that would turn a Yankee’s skin blue and run rivers up his spine. For anyone interested, here’s a list of the must-know Appalachian spooks that haunt the mountain range.
Tumblr media
The Bell Witch
One of the most popular examples of Appalachian folklore, this story originates in Robertson County, Tennessee. The Bell Witch (thought to be a woman named Kate Batts) was cheated in a land purchase by John Bell, the patriarch of the Bell family.
Around 1817 and 1821 the hauntings began, with the Bell Witch appearing disguised as an animal (such as a bird or a black dog). She focused on John Bell’s daughter, harming the girl with painful scratches and destroying her room during the night. Bell became so concerned for the safety of his daughter that he confided in a friend, James Johnston. Word from there began to spread, until eventually it reached the ears of General Andrew Jackson.
According to the story, Jackson and his party of men set up tents outside of the Bell residence. One man claiming to have knowledge of witch dealings, stated that his silver bullets were keeping the witch subdued. As punishment for his ego and mockery, the Bell Witch set her sights on Jackson’s party and ran them from the property with violence and malice.
Even after John Bell’s (mysterious) death in 1820, the witch continued to haunt the family.
Tumblr media
The Brown Mountain Lights
Specific to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, these lights are a lesser known Appalachian mystery. In the Brown Mountain area near Morganton NC, locals and tourists alike have made several reports of glowing, orb-like lights hovering approximately 15 feet off the ground. First recorded sightings of these lights occurred in 1771, when engineer John William Gerard de Brahm wrote about seeing the phenomenon in his journal.
Legend tells of a gruesome battle between Catawba and Cherokee warriors on Brown Mountain, which left several dead on the battlefield. In the evenings, Catawba women would search for their sons, brothers, husbands and fathers by using torch lights to guide them. Many claim that the Brown Mountain Lights seen today are the spirits of these women, endlessly searching for their loved ones.
The Wiseman’s View Overlook, Brown Mountain Overlook, and Lost Cove Cliffs Overlook are the most popular places to see them. All are found off NC-105 S or NC-181 near Asheville and Boone. While reported sightings of the colorful lights are known for their inconsistency, the lights are typically seen at night, especially after a rainfall.
Tumblr media
The Flatwoods Monster
Originating in Braxton County, West Virginia, The Flatwoods Monster is another population Appalachian myth. In 1952, Edward and Freddie May, Neil Nunley, and Tommy Hyer were playing at Flatwoods Elementary when a light went shooting across the sky. Arriving at the sight of the light’s crash, they saw a pulsing red light and 10-foot-tall creature with a glowing green face and gnarled hands levitating from the ground.
Little is known about what happened after this reported sighting, however an official U.S. Air Force inquiry was prompted and the incident made national news.
Tumblr media
The Moon-Eyed People
According to both Cherokee legend and Appalachian folk tales, there is a group of humanoids lurking in the Appalachian mountains (usually associated with Murphy, NC). Described to be short with very pale skin and bearded faces, the Moon-Eyed People are known for their characteristic wide blue eyes. These creatures are said to be so visually sensitive to sunlight that they remain in hiding and nocturnal, prompting their title of “moon-eyed”.
Legend claims that local tribes waited for the full moon to appear to force the Moon-Eyed People from their underground caves. The bright light weakened them, forcing them to leave the area and hide in other parts of the Appalachian area.
Separate from other Appalachian cryptids, Moon-Eyed People were considered to be a separate race of human rather than any supernatural entities. While it may seem obvious to onlookers that said cryptids are simply European settlers, what’s shocking is that this story dates back hundreds of years before Christopher Columbus came to the continent.
Tumblr media
The Mothman
Famous now around the world, the Mothman is a creature who originated in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The story begins when two couples reported seeing a large humanoid creature flying with a 10-foot wingspan and intense glowing red eyes. Stories caught and spread like wildfire, until December 1967 when the Mothman was credited for the collapse of Silver Bridge (killing 46 people).

Brief Personality: Sam is very quiet when you first meet him, he seems to not trust anyone or anything really. But when you break through his walls he is a very sweet and passionate person, they genuinely care about their family and just want to be accepted by other people. Which often means he will overwork himself just to “prove” himself to others, he honestly doesn’t know many connections where he doesn’t have to give something to another person.
Brief Backstory:
Sam was born to a long line of magical creatures. The occult was incredibly normal in their family, having connections to the occult and the divine. His family had a powerful inherent magic ability, however when Sam was born there wasn’t a celebration.
Long ago, one of Sam’s oldest ancestors made a deal with a demon, Azazel. As she was on the verge of being executed for witchcraft. She made a deal with the demon that the first boy born to their family would belong to Azazel. And to save her life she agreed.
This wasn’t a problem for many generations. They successfully had generations upon generations of women. The most recent generations couldn’t even remember the curse very well, until Sam came along.
Sam was treated differently than his sisters, he wasn’t given the same toys or the same opportunities. His family believed since that he would be given up to the demon at 18, there was no point in developing a relationship or spending money or time with him.
Sam tried everything he could in order to get his families approval. Becoming one of the most powerful magic users in his family. However nothing was enough. And the time was slowly ticking to when he turned 18.
A few weeks before his 18th birthday, he ran away from home and made an abandoned house his sanctuary. Completely demon proofing it.. well mostly.. even though the demon couldn’t get to him physically, he could still mentally torment him, and attempt to get him physically.
Sam eventually ends up being protected by the divine forces his family tried to keep him from. And he slowly realizes how weak Azazel actually is, unlike how his family thought for generations.
Sam ends up breaking the bond between him and Azazel and kills him. Before going to live with his real found family, protecting them from the occult.

Day 27/31: "The Bell Witch"
In the southern part of Tennessee, there is a family legend that’s been around since the 18th/19th Century. A legend that is quite bizarre in a way that makes one question how this came to be. It had became a popular telling, so much so that the president during that time (Andrew Jackson) has heard of it.
According to this particular legend, it tells of the Bell family that has been terrorized by a supernatural presence believing to be the spirit of Kate Batts; A possible neighbor (and a alleged witch) that seems to take displeasure of the family due to feeling cheated from the land that was purchase. The spirit particularly has a great dislike towards John Bell and his Daughter Betsy. Therefore, tend to attack them more…
Another thing that this legend tells is that this particular witch spirit resides in a cave now called "The Bell Witch Cave". So if you do go to Tennessee and end up visiting the cave; beware of the presence of the Bell Witch.

... #notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article

The story of the Bell Witch is one of the most popular examples of Appalachian Mountain folklore, and it began in Robertson County, Tennessee.
This legend centers around the Bell family. The Bell Witch (who is thought to be a woman named Kate Batts) was supposedly cheated in a land purchase by John Bell, the patriarch of the Bell family.
The hauntings began sometime between 1817 and 1821, when the Bell Witch would show up disguised as an animal, such as a dog or bird.
She would often focus on John’s daughter Betsy Bell, pulling the sheets off her bed, or even physically harming her with kicks, punches, and scratches.
John Bell grew so concerned by these violent escalations that he shared his story with a family friend, James Johnston.
After Johnston experienced the spirit first-hand, word quickly began to spread. The Appalachian ghost story eventually became famous enough to reach General Andrew Jackson.
According to legend, Jackson and his party set up their tents outside of the Bell home. One man, claiming he had knowledge of how to deal with witches, boasted that his silver bullets were keeping the witch at bay.
To punish him, the witch set her sights on the man, giving him a beating that had Jackson’s men begging to leave.
After John Bell’s mysterious death in 1820, the Bell Witch continued to haunt his family. She even forced Betsy to break off her engagement with Joshua Gardner before eventually disappearing for good.
Some stories claim that she promised to return to haunt John Bell’s direct descendants in 1935, but there were no reports by Nashville physician Dr. Charles Bailey Bell.
To experience these Appalachian legends for yourself, visit the Historic Bell Witch Cave, which located in Adams TN. Here’s the website https://www.bellwitchcave.com/?msclkid=0abcfcd9a60711ecbb85a8e1ef6a73c9

The Bell Witch is the spirit of an alleged witch found in Robertson County Tennessee. The events began in 1817 when John Bell saw a black animal with red eyes that resembled a dog so John Bell shot at it but it disappeared. He then saw a large unidentifiable bird sitting on a fence that flew away as well his daughter  a girl in a green dress swinging from a tree and the family’s slave was followed by a black dog in the evenings. Eventually the Bell family started to hear noises and John Bell started to develop mouth paralysis. They consulted a family friend named James Johnston who told them it was a spirit and after awhile the spirit started to speak to them. The spirit referred to herself as  “Old Kate Batts witch”. The spirit was nice at times to the family members but she despised John Bell and said she would kill him. The spirit then poisoned John Bell she was reported to be singing, dancing, and laughing on John Bell’s grave during the funeral. She is now said to haunt a cave near to where the Bell family’s house once stood This story became so popular that it inspired the famous found film movie The Blair Witch Project.
