Imagine if the reason Katara ends up becoming the best healer in the world despite clearly prefering to focus on more combat based waterbending was simply because she spent her life with the avatar. An avatar a lot of people hated and an avatar who probably regularly ran into bad situations. She probably had to heal him a lot, and probably in a lot of different situations. She accidentally becomes the best at healing because she ended up marrying the most death-defying person.
This both makes me sad because of the inherant angst but it's also hilarious bc like, she's got to be so done with that bullshit at somepoint. Aang gets stabbed for the 15th time in their lives and she's just like "gdi again? Really?" Not worried at all because she's done this so many times before and Aang's just like "haha 😅 have I mentioned lately that I love you and you're the most amazing person I know?"

i'm sorry, but the atla fandom is the only place where i've ever seen people unironically use a 12 year old telling his friend that killing someone out of grief is maybe a rash decision and not healthy to argue that that same 12 year old is being controlling and is an unhealthy partner
you guys know that murder is like....a bad thing....right? especially for a 14 year old? you guys know that revenge murder isn't a healthy strategy? you guys know that anyone who would encourage that is probably actually the unhealthy one in that scenario...right??

man, all you zutara guys are way better at this shipping thing than me. i read through like ninety different metas about the symbolism of the colors associated between the two, the fact that the two of them are the emotional story arc of ATLA, and how their romance falls more into the canon themes of the franchise.....
and then i'm here like, he took lightning for her and she was aang's mom in an episode. i'm sold.

my most underrated Kataang take is, I think, the inclusion of Katara's epiphany in The Fortune Teller at all. We've talked ourselves hoarse about how it's the clear turning point in how she consciously thinks of Aang (I will always mandate that she was just unknowingly down bad since the pilot because Look at her behaviour dear god) and how it's important that she has this epiphany even after knowing Aunt Wu's predictions 'aren't real' or necessarily set in stone.
What I want to talk about is why I think it's important that THIS is the moment she sees Aang in a new light amid his previous attempts to have her think of him 'differently' than she did at the beginning of the episode.
When Aang is being sweet to her (making her a woven accidental-betrothal necklace that she happily accepts), Katara is appreciative and responsive, but still says "he's just a good friend, a sweet little guy, just like Momo".
When Aang tries to flirt with her under Sokka's aloof guise, it falls flat. When he tries to get her attention in general (and when having parallels with Meng), it likewise doesn't work.

Finally, he tries the flower but it falls into the lava (symoblism, anyone?) and they have bigger things to deal with, like making sure the town isn't completely wiped out by the volcano. It's also worth noting that after Aang's conversation with Meng:

He never actively tries pursuing or wooing Katara in the same way. He's still kind towards and supportive toward her, of course. He, at some point (probably after the 2nd cheek or third cheek kiss) eventually starts to think (understandably) that Katara has feelings for him. But as of The Fortune Teller, he's stopped trying to have her see him in a new light or do a big romantic gesture.
And that's exactly when she does, consciously, fall for him.
Not when he's trying to woo her in failed, false personas, not when he's being his sweet romantic self, but when he's being the most himself all episode: Aang, "the bravest person [she] knows, who's done nothing but help people and save lives" since she met him (1x12).

He's not paying attention, he's not trying to impress her. He's just being a good, determined Avatar. A good, helpful person. A powerful bender, completely in control of himself and his element. Being himself.
Her Aang.

You want to prove Zuko is the better man so bad but he only got 1 kid and Aang got 3 so who’s the ‘alpha’ now?
😬😬😬 Maybe I spoke too soon when I said Kataang shippers weren’t as outwardly misogynistic as they used to be

Thinking about kataang angst. Just, what if Aang took Katara's words during the EIP as her trying to spare his feelings, and decides he needs to start moving on, but of course, once the war ends and Katara's no longer worried about people dying, she wants to finally be with Aang but is now confused why Aang's determined to act friendly with her and no longer shows interest and seems to ignore her hints, Aang meanwhile, is assuming said hints don't mean anything and he's just wanting to read into it and is determined to show he can totally be a good frind and just a good friend. Eventually Katara just, accepts that things must have changed for Aang after the war and he no longer loved her like that. (Of course he still does.)
Just, I'm a stickler for the 'narrowly missed eachother' angst trope. The angst of knowing they were so close, yet for some reason or another, the oppertunity is missed and they both have to or force themselves to move on. Just, UGH, things really could have gone so wrong had Aang misinterpreted what Katara said ToT

100k likes on a tweet talking about how dirty Katara was done post-series, I used to pray for days like these
I love it. Now, if only there can be this type of reaction to a post honestly critiquing Aang as a character

it’s really really funny being in the avatar fandom and seeing people be like “this ship is so underappreciated it’s so hard being a shipper for it…” and the ship is like. kataang. or makorra.

Slowly gearing up to an adult Kataang kinda-redesign, so have some headshots I did as practice lol Along with several facial hair ideas for Aang that I probably won't incorporate into the final design but I think they're goofy and funny.

fanfic about katara and aang’s wedding where aang reveals during his vows that he loves katara so much he gave up the avatar state for her. and katara thinks he’s being hyperbolic. but he keeps going. describing in detail how he chose her over cosmic energy. and he’d do it again. and she’s listening, absolutely horrified. thinking about the lives that could have been spared, the people who could have been saved.
