I would like to hear about your Digimon AU! I put way more thought than I figured I would have into a Digimon AU myself, similarly putting it in a 'self indulgent' category, but hey - maybe there's more interest than we think :P
Maybe! I'm glad at least someone has an interest tbh :D I feel digimon has become more and more niched in later years so it's rare I find other people who enjoy it. A shame since they've started going towards a more mature audience which has been really really interesting!
I will be explaining some terms of digimon lore for people who aren't familiar with it, but the setting of the au is similar to the Cyber Sleuth games, so a modern world with EDEN (physical interaction cyberspace network, think VR for social interactions) technology. Half the characters in this au are human and the other half are digimon, so!
Sam is an EDEN programmer whose personal laptop gets infected by a strange virus, and due to the program's odd behaviour and code he decides to quarantine it for later study instead of completely getting rid of it. Shortly thereafter he's sent to fix a bug within EDEN's cyberspace where he's attacked by a strange digital creature, only to be saved by a similar creature that turns out to be the virus that infected Sam's laptop. While it managed to defeat the aggressive monster it's very weak and injured after and Sam, now even more intrigued by the program, decides to help and nurse it back to health! This creature is Punz, a bee/leopard like digimon.
George is a Kowloon (the "graveyard" of EDEN that's full of old scarp data, inaccessible to most EDEN users) hacker who's just learned about the digimon programs that have started to appear in the depth of Kowloon. They've become popular hacking tools if they can be captured and reprogrammed, and luckily for George he comes across an injured one that is easily taken down. He does however quickly realize the program seems to be more than just a tool, having its own personality, wants and needs. So instead of reprogramming it like other hackers, George simply makes a deal with it, soon getting the creature's name, Dream, a chimera like digimon.
Karl is an EDEN user who's been affected by the EDEN Syndrome (a condition in which the person's physical body goes into a coma, while their mental data become trapped in cyberspace) and is wandering around aimlessly in Kowloon when he comes across a panda like digimon, Sapnap, who seems just as lost. Karl doesn't have many memories or a purpose so when Sapnap tells him he's been separated from his friends Karl decides to make it his mission to help him find them.
Tina is a popular streamer who likes to try out new games, meet up with fans, and generally spend most of her time within the EDEN space. One day she happens upon a small land-shark like program that she figures must be a glitched entity that has somehow ended up outside of its game. Seeing the creature injured she decides to take care of it, soon getting its name, Foolish!
All four digimon are a freelance/mercenary team in the digital world that during a dangerous mission gone wrong end up in the human world's cyberspace, separated and lost. The main plot of the au is for everyone to reunite, figure out why digimon are ending up in EDEN, and keep humans safe from the more aggressive programs that are threatening cyberspace!

Description: A personal account of a USAF Forward Air Controller in a remote highland province in South Vietnam in 1969 and how he met "Steve Canyon" and transitioned to the "secret" war in Laos, living with the CIA and the Hmong clans and having near-complete control over the use of US airpower. This account has many illustrations of the grinding stress of intense combat in Laos, and the periodic clashes with the distant headquarters that had little knowledge of an extremely complex combat environment and was more focused on control rather than results.
Review: This book is one of the rare 5 stars for me. There were parts of the book that were absolutely incredible and make this book a must read! While it’s not a perfect book, those parts really showcase how this genre should be written. Instead of just saying “I flew here... I did this” ... he actually walks you through the mission, the steps, where he put his hands, how he got into the aircraft, what he saw, what he thought, what he felt. There is always more to the story than just what someone did... it’s important to make the tale multidimensional and also explain why in a big and small picture way. This author really did that well. At times the book slogs and gets more into the I flew 10 sorties that day, went to the bar, woke up the next day. He also talks a lot about the failures of the whole war and how it was run, which occupied too much space of the book. And yet, even with those criticisms, the book is really excellent!
You get to see a side of the vietnam war in II corps, as well as the Laotian civil war, and the command and control issues with both, and the success and failure in both.
Definitely a great read about a forward air controller during that time!

Our China Crash Course
Our adventure through China was an absolute whirlwind that covered almost 3,000 miles in 10 days. To see China in that amount of time is like taking a 10 day trip to see New York, D.C., LA, and Seattle. It was absolutely insane.
But we had a good reason for the quickness—Blakely’s family came to join us and they only had a small window. We enjoyed the company (and the upgrade in accommodations!).
We started in Hong Kong, which is a great gateway into China since it is much more connected to the outside world. Reminder: the Chinese government significantly limits news flow of its citizens, and this makes them culturally cut off from the rest of society. While Hong Kong technically falls under Chinese jurisdiction, it was a British colony until 1997 when the Brits returned it to China. Hong Kong maintains a separate political and economic system from China, but the mainland significantly influences the legislation. China continues to broker more influence, and unfortunately protests don’t make much difference despite making international news.
Blakely and Ryan arrived 2 days earlier than the rest of the group, which was best as we were VERY dusty from our time in Nepal. We stayed at the Kowloon Shangri-la Hotel, which, as could be expected, were MUCH better accommodations than our norm.
We enjoyed the hotel then headed to explore the city. Of course, a highlight for us was the spectacular architecture. As city folk we really appreciate a good skyscraper, and Hong Kong has plenty of those! Hong Kong has a gorgeous skyline, with more skyscrapers than anywhere in the world, and Victoria Harbor elevates the view further. Ryan’s favorites were the HSBC Building, International Commerce Center and Bank of China Tower. Then we went to Man Mo temple, which is dedicated to the gods of literature and war. The incense and atmosphere make it a calm and gorgeous stop.
That night, we headed to the fabulous SoHo neighborhood (not to be confused with the SoHo in NYC, this stands for South of Hollywood Road) which has one of our favorite features: escalator sidewalks. First we hit a wine and cheese bar, and then one of our favorite restaurants Little Bao. So fun, so delicious, and everything we needed.
Finally, the rest of the group arrived. We didn’t pause long before taking them on a walking tour the neighborhood. Then for dinner, we headed to the world renowned Din Tai Fung restaurant for delicious dumplings and noodles. Finally, we headed to Temple Street Night Market for a bit of chaos and shopping! Unfortunately the market is MUCH more glitz than glamor, and as many things in China, focused on the shiny quantity over quality!
The next day was a big one. We started on a tram up to Victoria Peak to see the sights,. Due to the crazy fog, the view half-way up was better. Then we took a boat tour to see the floating village of Aberdeen and the temples there. Afterwards, a little tea time at the Peninsula hotel, then cocktails while watching the harbor light show.
Next, we jetted off to Guilin and immediately went to the gorgeous Reed Flute cave. In case the natural structure isn’t enough, the gorgeous light displays make the cave even more mystical and impressive (though a few thought they were tacky and preferred the natural landscape!). In Guilin, we stayed at the beautiful Guilin Shangri-la Hotel.
Next on the itinerary was a drive out to Longji, with hiking to see the gorgeous rice paddies. Absolutely worth the hike (to say nothing of needing to work off those dumplings!), this was a trip highlight for all of us.
That night we took a light cruise around the lakes of Guilin. The Chinese LOVE a light show, and we were pretty impressed ourselves!
The next day was a highlight: A boat cruise along the Li River. This site has inspired painters and artists for centuries, and it inspired the artwork on the 50 yen note today. Blakely couldn’t resist the beauty recreated by a local artist on rice paper, which is now hanging in our house!
After the day’s craziness, we took a flight to Xian and settled into the Wyndham Grand Xian hotel, another fabulous place!
Xian attracts visitors from all over the world with the incredible Terracotta Warriors. Even with all of the hype, they do NOT disappoint. Here’s the skinny:
When the first Emperor of China Qin Shi Huang died around 210 BC, he was buried with an army he commissioned to protect him in the afterlife. There are approximately 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots, 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses. Additionally, there are officials, acrobats, strongmen and musicians. All of the statues are life sized, uniquely carved and painted, and buried in different sized pits. The largest of the pits is housed in the museum for viewing. It is INSANE to see.
Even cooler: the army is just a portion of the remains left to be discovered. Excavation is ongoing, but ground-penetrating radar detects a larger city resembling the emperor’s imperial palace and court. Next we gobbled down some delicious beef noodle soup!
The next day we had a gorgeous bike ride around Xian’s ancient city walls, which were built in the 14th Century and form one of the best-preserved fortresses in the world. After earning our treat, we had a walk through the Great Tang All Day Mall and celebrated with Popsicles and BBQ. This is a market of which we all approved!
After Xian we flew to Shanghai and got to visit the historic and beautiful Zhujiajiao village. We felt like we stepped back in time! We had a canal cruise, did a little shopping (of course) and went to see a historic mansion with traditional Chinese gardens.
Shang Hai was absolutely our favorite city in mainland China, with a gorgeous skyline and metropolitan atmosphere. As discussed, we love cities. We walked along the river and had a fabulous dinner before enjoying one of THE most bizarre and fantastic shows we’d ever seen: The Amazing Acrobats of Shanghai. We will never be able to see another acrobat show again.
The following day the boys and girls separated, and the boys took a tour of the mind blowing Shang hai port. Afterwards we all flew to our last stop (WHEW) Beijing.
The next day was a highlight and it started with Tian’anmen Square. According to our official guide it is “the largest city square in the world” (it is actually only one of the top 10) “and the spiritual heart of China, where the national flag is raised exactly at sunrise every day.” Of course, what isn’t mentioned in the paraphernalia is that this square is infamous for the horrendous massacre of protestors in 1989. Troops with automatic rifles and tanks killed hundreds of demonstrators who were trying to block the military’s advance to the square (where a student protest was happening).
Today, Tian’anmen is a heavily regulated area and indicative of Chinese policy in general. Before entry, visitors and their belongings are searched and IDs checked. Protests are strictly forbidden, and discussion of the massacre nonexistent. Furthermore, in the 70s the square held ginormous portraits of 6 dictators (including Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and Joseph Stalin), but upon the death of Mao Sedong (founding father of the People’s Republic of China) the other portraits were removed and only his remains. Don’t worry, the other portraits are still brought out in a parade around the square on Labor Day and National Day.
For all its dark past, Tian’anmen Square allows entrance to one of the coolest places in China: The Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is a palace complex in Central Beijing and housed the imperial palace from 1420-1912. Now, it is a Palace Museum and provides an excellent snapshot of gorgeous Chinese architecture, artwork, and artefacts. Our personal favorite was the Hall of Clocks, a display of 200 clocks and watches from the imperial collection.
Last stop for the day, we visited the Temple of Heaven, a complex of religious buildings that was visited yearly by emperors to ensure a good harvest.
Ok. Now for the part we’ve all been waiting for. The famous symbol of China, an architectural wonder of the world, stretching 6,700 km and over 2,000 years old: The Great Wall of China.
The wall was constructed over many different dynasties to protect the ever-changing empire borders. The most extensive and modern construction occurred as recently as the 14th Century. Effectiveness of the wall varied, and our guide informed us that bribery decreased the walls success. Unfortunately, with the invention of air invasion, the wall was largely unproductive in modern era. That said, it is magnificent to see.
Though it can’t be seen from the moon (common misconception), it can be seen from space at a low orbit when the conditions are right.
Maybe one of our favorite parts was the ride down. Take a look.
To get to the wall we enjoyed the Sacred Path, which is lined with animals, mystical beasts and officials who serve the emperor in his afterlife. Sitting emperors perform rituals there for the ancestors once a year.
Our last stop in China was one of our favorites: The Summer Palace. This was an imperial summer resort of the Qing Dynasty and it has gorgeous grounds that are the recognized as the most splendid classical gardens of China. The incredible decoration on the buildings made us constantly look up, and we loved finishing our trip with such a gorgeous example of Chinese art. Our only complaint was that we visited on a holiday so we felt like all of China was there with us! One thing is for sure: China has a LOT of people!
So ended our blitz through China, and if you’re tired from reading it you can imagine how tired we were for doing it! The only answer: a blissful vacation to Bali.

Fossil Fighters Timeline (1931-2017)
(Some of the dates listed for the games are later than the release dates. The series has always had a futuristic feel, so logic’s been prioritised over canon/the real-world timeline.)
(Spoilers for everything. This timeline is a constant WIP, developing as this blog’s world gain depth — hence, expect it to get reblogged sporadically with things that have been missed.)
March 8, 1931 – Mr. Richmond born in Chicago.
August 1, 1949 - Dr. Blackraven born in Charleston, West Virginia.
May 5, 1957 –  Slate Johnson born in Pretoria, South Africa.
June 19, 1958 – Dr. Diggins born in Manchester.
May 27, 1960 – Mr. Richmond has his first child, Russel.
November 2, 1960 – Joseph Lully Varèse (known to all as ‘Joe’) born in Parsippany, New Jersey.
October 13, 1961 – Nevada Montecarlo born in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Her parents move to Portland, Oregon, after realising that their considerations for baby names could’ve been... well, more considered.)
1967 – Bartholomew Bullwort born in Lincoln, Nebraska.
1968 - Mr. Richmond has a daughter, Kimberley, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
March 3, 1971 – Marcus Harrison born in Liverpool.
March 1977 – Dr. Diggins, midway through his first year of university in Cambridge, strikes the business deal with Mr. Richmond that leads to the creation of the first fossil revival machine.
June 1977 – First dig site opened. Three more follow in England.
July 1977-December 1978 – Dig sites aplenty open worldwide.
July 23, 1977 – P. A. Leon born in Jacksonville, Florida.
April 1979 – Richmond’s Inc. begins mass-producing dino medals. Fossil fighting takes the world by storm.
Late August 1979 – Joe ‘Wild West’ Varèse and Nevada Montecarlo meet at university in Portland, hitting it off immediately over a love of vivosaurs and adventure. She’s the one who gives him the nickname (honouring his outlandishness and overly idealistic, zany stance on life) that he’ll come to adopt less than a year later as his legal name.
April 29, 1980 – Karl Kowloon born in Melbourne, Australia.
June 21, 1980 – Joseph Lully Varèse legally changes his name to Joe Wildwest in revolt against his parochial upbringing. It sticks.
September 8, 1980 – Lewis Stryker born in Melbourne, Australia.
September 1982-March 1983 – Off-map: Six Months in a Leaky Boat filmed. Released on 5 November, 1983. Joe and Nevada get rich and famous by the end of the year, but aren’t aware, as they’re off adventuring/filming the next season.
July 1982 – The Fossil Parks are founded to establish an international accord on fossil fighting before things get hairy.
January 23, 1983 – Mr. Richmond purchases Vivosaur Island.
May 1986-October 1986 – Joe Wildwest tours Australia and New Zealand for tournaments and festivals. Whilst in Christchurch, he meets Leanna Campbell, a down-to-business reporter, at a records store as the two reach for Crowded House at the exact same time. They cannot stop talking - later, she ends up interviewing him several times on and off-camera before he returns to America. Over the next couple of years, he returns to New Zealand whenever he has a holiday - initially because of liking the nation, but later after ending up in a relationship with her.
April 7, 1989 – Cole Franklin born in Cranial City, Caliosteo.
July 2, 1989 – Terry Eno born in Hilo, Hawaii. His family migrates to Cranial City three years after his birth.
September 3, 1989 – Richmond Inc. creates the first KL robot, KL-10N. It’s surprisingly successful, prompting a new line of KL-2 robots running from KL-20N to KL-2XN. KL-26N, one of the most widely used models, becomes a 90s icon of fossil digging.
May 12, 1990 – Lester Hamilton born in Ribular Town, Caliosteo.
August 1990 – Kimmy Richmond moves to Cambridge for postgraduate research. There, she meets Marcus Harrison. The two start dating six months after they first crash into one another on campus.
February 29, 1993 – Marcus Harrison founds FossilDig (read as: Marcus Harrison has his first and favourite child with Kimmy Richmond). Three days later, he moves into Kimmy Richmond’s Cambridge home. Though it’s his company, she’s the creative brain behind it all. He simply does the negotiating.
March 1994 – Having been dating Joe for a bit over 7 years, Leanna Campbell moves to America to live with him. (After Joe’s brother moves to Portland for work, the not-entirely-young couple immediately flee to New York City. Joe doesn’t like his family. Leanna downright hates them.)
January 2, 1996 – Lola Jay born in Ribular Town, Caliosteo.
June 8, 1996 – Tria Zhěng born in Chóngqìng, Sìchuān.
May 17, 1997 – Leanna and Joe marry in a quiet ceremony in Christchurch (read as: the media speculate as to where the hell he’s gone for four weeks, only to see him return with a wedding ring. Nobody, of course, cares about his wife.)
Late February 1998 – Following a tumultuous relationship with Stryker in grade 11, Karl Kowloon disappears. His parents have no clue where he’s gone, but rumours abound stating that he snuck onto a plane to America. (Stryker doesn’t put it past him.) At the beginning of March, the Blackraven Brigade begins operations.
May 30, 1998 – Rosie Richmond born on Vivosaur Island.
December 19, 1998 – Dino (real name Daniel, but nobody except Rupert calls him that) born to Leanna and Joe Wildwest in New York City.
January 9, 1999 – Hunter born in Sydney, Australia.
February 3, 1999 – Rupert born to Kimberley Richmond and Marcus Harrison in Cambridge.
April 9, 2000 – Dina born in Canberra, Australia.
January 2001 – Todd born in Sydney, Australia.
July 11, 2002 – Rosie Richmond’s parents, Russel and Lynette Richmond, killed in cave-in near the Starship’s ruins. Mr. Richmond takes Rosie in as his own child.
July 15, 2002 – Bartholomew Bullwort retrieves the Richmonds’ bodies, risking life and limb in the process. He is commended for his valour and promoted to head of the Vivosaur Island police, but his already-tenuous relationship with Richmond sours beyond repair.
September 7, 2002 – Bartholomew Bullwort establishes the BB Bandits.
August 2003 – FossilDig produces the first Dino Gears and Support Shots. Though mocked by the public, they garner mass attention and love from the wardens, who endorse them wholeheartedly.
September 3, 2004 – on the 15th anniversary of KL-10N’s release, Richmond Inc. put the KL-3 line onto the market. KL-33N hits stores two years later. It’s even more beloved than KL-26N, as its quirky personality endears it to many a fighter. (KL-34N was made for Vivosaur Island exclusively.)
October 2005 – First wave of dinaurians begin to emerge from stone sleep, shocked to see the earth’s supposed degeneration.
January 2008 – FossilDig Inc. purchases the KL robots’ trademark. Mass outrage results - for whilst the new models are better, they lack the quirky personality that the originals were so beloved for. Richmond Inc. and FossilDig become increasingly competitive with one another; the former suffers immensely, having fared worse during the GFC. FossilDig is immortalised as the dominant company in fossil fighting production - this burgeoning monopoly is both criticised and accepted.
January 15, 2008 – Dina moves to Sydney with her father for the sake of attending a music-focused school, ending up next-door neighbours with Todd. The two grow immensely close over the next two years.
July 2, 2010 – Dina withdraws from her music school after a year of bullying from another student. Her uncle – Stryker – knowing she’s feeling miserable, permits her and Todd to use to World Gate to travel to America for the holidays. There, they meet Joe Wildwest in the fateful encounter that would give Dina the drive to pick herself up and become a fossil fighter.
November 2010 – Stryker thwarts Blackraven Brigade’s initial attempt at world domination.
December 18, 2010 – Having been ostracised and isolated for his poor behaviour, Dina’s bully is asked to leave the music school. Over the summer break, he begins to feel some remorse that imbues him with a need to help and save the women he meets later (rather than hurt them), and resolves to become a fossil fighter, abandoning music for something completely different. The bully? Hunter. The women he grows fond of after his treatment of Dina? Rosie and Duna.
October 2011-December 2012 – Hunter travels to Vivosaur Island. Fossil Fighters takes place.
November 20, 2012 – Joe Wildwest purchases the Caliosteo islands.
December 3, 2012 – Stryker promoted to Captain of the wardens.
February 12, 2013 – Joe possessed by ZongaZonga.
March 8, 2015 – Caliosteo Cup begins.
August 24, 2015 – Dina Stryker defeats Rupert Harrison in the finale of the Caliosteo Cup. Hell ensues over the following five months as ZongaZonga attempts to possess Dina, the Cup is revealed as a body-stealing scheme, and the BB Brigade are pardoned.
March 2015- August 2017 – Frontier takes place.
June 30, 2016 – FossilDig signs a deal with Volkswagen and Hyundai, the two largest Bone Buggy manufacturers, allowing for even more mass production of support-shot equipped vehicles. The Fossil Parks’ profit increases substantially (read as: the Wardens go mad with the power).
October 14, 2017 – Mr. Richmond, at the age of 86, falls at home and breaks his hip. Though hospitalised at once, after ten days of care, he passes away. He is mourned widely, remembered for his magnanimity with great love.
