I think I am also annoyed with the show making Karen in love with Graham rather than it just being unrequited on his part and her caring for him enough to break it off. Also I do miss the “maybe I’d’ve kept the baby if it were today, idk, but because it was the 70s having a baby would have meant raising almost entirely myself even if I had a partner and meant the end of my career and I didn’t want that” and like even as a person who really will never have kids and appreciates good representation of that in fiction, I do think that was a great nuance to bring to Karen’s stance on kids.

So since I've spent the last 3 hours looking at fucking plastic wrap let me share some thoughts:

First of all, to structure this mess in some way, let's look at the dates. First, at the Reynolds Wrap invention date. Bc PLS LOOK AT THIS

Now the Glad Wrap was founded in 1963, and some pages say that Kali was born in 1963, others in 1964, and others that in s2 she's 16/17 so there's no way she was born back then; so idk about this date.

Now let's go with the ads, starting with Glad Wrap bc it's by far the most interesting one.

I've seen multiple commercials but none of them seemed to have anything meaningful EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE WHICH IS MAKING ME ABSOLUTELY LOSE MY MIND:

Am I crazy. Do I seriously need to sleep. Or does that look an awful lot like Karen Wheeler??? Especially here in s4????

I mean, the hairstyle and the blond hair, but much more importantly, the outfit.

Like?????? I mean I get that it's 80's white wealthy woman fashion, fine, but that's a whole load of coincidences???

Now for the rest of the ad, the plastic wrap thingy that attacks the woman is pretty interesting, as well as the clock in the background for Vecna reasons. Regarding similarities with the Wheeler's kitchen, I could only catch due to the low quality the bowl with apples and the phone on the wall (you can't see it on the screenshot but there's a phone behind Mike). I couldn't really find anything about the strawberries, but if y'all know something pls tell me

As a bonus, the ad is from 1987, which as far as I know is when everyone guesses s5 is gonna take place in

Now there's no much to see in the Reynolds Wrap ads, except maybe this one:

(Ignore the yt bar lmao) Although not as much as the previous one, the woman's outfit in that frame does remind me of this Karen s4 look, the same look she has on that scene the damn plastic wrap came from.

Ik this is all probably meaningless, buuuut do you guys want more meaningless shit??

Let's go back to the Glad Wrap ad. The slogan for that specific ad is "Don't get mad. Get glad." Welp, Vecna's a fan of this last word bc out of 9 times it's said in s5, 4 are said by him.

Let's take a quick look at the most interesting time he says that word. We're in Vecna's monologue in chp 7, and in the same scene just some minutes before, he says this:

"I could not do that. I could not close off my mind and join in the madness. I could not pretend. And I realized, I didn't have to."

Let's remember the slogan: "Don't get mad. Get glad."

Then, a couple minutes later, in the same scene:

"And soon, others were born. You were born. And I am so glad you were, Eleven. So very glad."

Now literally two seconds before this last line, this shot was happening:

And. Um. Do you. Do you guys know what's used for tattoos. Um.

Plastic wrap???

You are never going to recover from this. You stare at the spot she just vacated, hoping that if you concentrate hard enough, you'll still be able to picture her. The most gorgeous woman you've ever seen.

So when I was little, we'd spend four hours to go drive to see my Grandma.

We always had car snacks on the way there. Once we made the mistake of stopping for food because the trip was taking longer than normal and it was getting late. When we got there, Grandma asked if we were hungry. We said no.

You do not tell Abuela that you are not hungry. She had a whole pot roast with sides ready for us. We had not eaten 'real food' so therefore we could not possibly be full.

I bet Mexian!Matt knows how to cook but doesn't have the time or patience for it. But he also probably keeps a freezer full of tamales for emergency.

He also keeps Vicks vapor rub in the medicine cabinet, even though it overwhelms his senses unless he has a cold. And there's one specific type of candy that gives him flashbacks to five year old Matt sitting on his Abuela's plastic covered couch watching telenovellas. You know the kind. It's salty and sour and fruity.

I don't think Matt had any family (apart from his dad) in New York but I'm sure he got adopted by a neighbor abuelita. And maybe she invites him over for dinner and gives him candy. Jack's kid is too skinny, gotta make sure he's eating. Oh, you already ate? What did you eat? Chips? That's not real food, eat this.

What if Foggy helps Matt make the emergency tamales? Matt casually mentions that he's going to spend all weekend making tamales since it's a lot of work, so Foggy offers to help. And for the first 10 minutes, Matt is so happy because his best friend is helping him make his traditional food and for the rest of the time Matt is trying to hide his irritation because Foggy you're doing is wrong 😤

When they meet Karen, she also comes to help and it becomes a Christmas tradition to make them. They make some extra to give to Jess, Danny, Luke, and Peter. Matt totally forgets that Peter doesn't eat pork and feels so guilty he goes back just to make more tamales without any pork.

Both Mike and Ted in light blue polo shirts and El and Karen in dark blues with yellow/orange stripes being fake couples + Mike in this outfit when he gets pissed at an authority figure (Hopper) for lying to him about his grandma specifically + Ted in the same shirt in the church where he noticably doesn't eat his food (donut) for once and then the urn that's been in the background this entire show falls of the mantle later + a lie that was designed to conceal the truth + ted wheeler comes from a "good family" + his aversion to bad language because cursing is a sin

please take note of the red lighting in that last shot- in ST red has always been the color of revealing what is hidden, bad or good. They use the similar red lighting when Victor sees his first hallucination:
