PDA (for my unfinished fic)

hiii I'm back with another (it's the third one already lol) illustration for my tskym story. still unfinished/unpublished, but you know... anyway, here's an excerpt:

Their first kiss in public happened at a farewell dinner, after their upperclassmen retrieved their graduation papers and shed the last tears in the gym they had played in for three years. The restaurant was buzzing with the laughter and chatter of twelve teenage volleyball players, their managers and their coaches. The wide smiles on their tear-streaked faces made Kei's inside feel warm. Still, his focus was on rilling up his fellow first (technically pretty much second) years.

He took a bite of his food, sneaking a glance at Tadashi. Tadashi, who was already looking at him. His gaze was soft, a smile turning his eyes into half-moons. He was propping his head on his knuckles, as if he was watching his favorite show.

“What?” inquired Kei, pulling down his eyebrows.

Something gleamed in those brown eyes. Tadashi looked around before grabbing a menu from the table and unfolding it. Kei opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, Tadashi's face was right in front of his. Soft lips pressed against his ones, sending an electric shock across his spine. The menu was hiding them from the prying eyes and yet, he thought his heart was about to explode.

Almost as soon as the kiss started, it ended. Tadashi went back to his meal like nothing ever happened. Kei's brain was working overtime trying to reboot.

“You look a bit fried there, Tsukishima,” commented Kageyama, entirely too pleased with the situation.

“Uwah! His face is so red!” added Hinata.

Frankly, Kei didn't have the mental power to think of anything clever. His lips were still prickly. His head felt both too full and too empty to form coherent sentences.

“Uh-huh,” he said, ever so eloquently.

The table roared with laughter. Teasing comments flew around the room, their senpais delighted to see him reduced to speechlessness. Kei didn't mind them. Honestly, he didn't care about much at that moment. He could see Tadashi's slightly trembling hands and his cheeky smile was accompanied with a nice dark color flooding his freckled cheeks and he found himself focusing on that completely.

Ennoshita : Leading a revolution with Kinoshita and Narita.

Noya : Good for you tree! Me, I've joined the mob.

Tanaka : *nods* Oh, how cool! That's awesome!

Yachi : Right?! Anyway, have you heard from the others? Tsukishima ?

Yamaguchi : Happily living as a hermit in the woods. Hinata?

Kageyama : Wrongfully locked up in an asylum, which reminds me, we need to break him out later. Suga?

Kiyoko : Cult leader.

Asahi : Yeah, that sounds about right.

Pirate AU!! Thank you @stringofturtles for watching OFMD S1 with me and re-igniting my Pirate Emotions so I had the motivation to finish this. The first sketches have been sitting in my files for months so please forgive the fact that they look different skdfjh.

More fleshed out AU details under the cut !! :D

- The kids are a little older than canon - the third years in their early 20s - but the story still starts with the second and third years as an established crew who then pick up the first years and the coaches.

- Daichi as a Captain is of course very much like he is in canon. He works very hard to take care of his crew and takes on a huge responsibility for providing for them (as well as making sure they don’t die in idiotic ways). Suga is First Mate so it’s his job to make sure DAICHI is okay and not worrying himself to death. He also has a good handle on morale/the emotional state of the crew.

- Asahi is the first line of offence when dealing with other ships. He doesn’t like actually hurting people, but he’s good at breaking ranks and barrelling through defences to get hold of whatever Karasuno needs. He was ‘off the team’ and out of commission for a little while after he lost his hand (not seeing combat while he was in recovery, and needing to build up his courage again). Noya played a huge part in helping him back onto his feet, and has been kind of protective ever since.

- Noya’s job is to make sure the ship isn’t boarded, so he very rarely leaves it.

- Ennoshita and Kiyoko work together as navigators and managing the little money the crew has. Ennoshita is the only crew member in the beginning who can kind-of read (Kiyoko can only read a little), and they work a lot with maps and planning out journeys.

- Tanaka is great at intimidating opponents. His eyepatch is totally for show - he thinks it makes him look cooler and scarier. His parrot doesn’t often co-operate with him.

- Narita and Kinoshita take care of maintenance and supplies and making sure there isn’t gunpowder anywhere there shouldn’t be, as well as things like fraying rigging and rotting boards/canons secure and the like. Of course, things like that are everyone’s responsibility, but these two consider is theirs particularly. It’s thankless work but the boat would definitely have burned down by now if not for them.

- Enter the first years!

- Kageyama is a prodigy swordsman with a huge reputation as a lethal pirate, although most people who spread those rumours don’t realise he’s as young as he is. He was marooned by his previous crew for being a controlling Captain (who should never have been captain in the first place, having only his fighting talent as the real reason).

- Hinata recently ran away from home to “become a pirate” without much of an idea what that actually entailed, and ran into Kageyama without knowing his reputation. All he knew was that this guy was incredible fighter, and he demanded that he teach him to fight! He now won’t leave him alone.

- Tsukishima ran away as a very young child in an attempt to find Akiteru, whose sailing ship was attacked and lost at sea. He fell in with pirates along with Yamaguchi (who was picked up after surviving a shipwreck), and the pair ended up sticking together as they bounced from ship to ship, ready to run whenever it seemed like tensions were getting high. They (read: tsukki) are going to need to break this habit, if they’re going to be a real part of this new crew.

- Tsukishima and Yamaguchi can’t sleep if they’re not in the same hammock. Embarrassing. The reason Yamaguchi was so tiny as a little kid is that he didn’t get enough food. Tsukishima still tries to sneak him extra (and gets in trouble with Daichi).

- Tadashi ends up as a sharpshooter, one of the few kids who’s confident using a pistol

- Hinata and Kageyama spar together all the time. It’s GOING to end in a make-out the first time Hinata successfully beats him.

- Neither of them have noticed that Tanaka’s eyepatch switches sides.

- Yachi is picked up when the crew stop in a bar in her town. She’s a better-off girl, about to be talked into an politically advantageous marriage, and desperately wants to get out of her situation. “Running away with pirates” was admittedly pretty drastic, but anything sounds like a good idea when Hinata suggests it so sincerely!!

- Ukai is a washed up older pirate, without a crew. Takeda is a very unlucky literature teacher who just happened to be on a sea voyage. They both ended up taken as hostages by the same (meaner) pirate crew, who were then stolen by the Karasuno kids. Although, it’s kind of unclear at this point whether they’re actually prisoners… They’re being treated very nicely (especially Sensei) and are in danger of getting attached…

Karasuno takes a cooking class!

Daichi and Suga: do their best. Daichi continuously wonders how they always manage to ruin whatever dish they make. Suga knows why. He loves going to the classes with Daichi so he keeps messing up the recipe on purpose so they have to go back and keep taking classes.

Asahi and Noya: do a pretty good job! They work together nicely and try their best to make everything correctly. Noya has to repress his urge to improvise parts of the dish because he knows Asahi will be sad if all their hard work is wasted. By the end of the hour they have a few containers to leave with and have later. They try to take a lot of classes all over the world because they both love so many different kinds of food.

Tanaka and Ennoshita: both play to their strength throughout the class. Tanaka isn’t the best with anything that gets very hot. He’s burned himself accidentally countless times. Ennoshita is hopeless with chopping and knives in general. He’s accidentally cut himself countless times. So Tanaka does any cutting and Ennoshita does the cooking part. They make it work and have some fun with it.

Kinoshita and Narita: are both really good cooks. Kinoshita’s mom was a firm believer that everyone should be able to take care of themselves on their own once they grow up so she started to teach Hisashi from an early age. He enjoyed the time immensely and loves to share the fun at cooking classes with his friends. Narita just loves the process of cooking. He would help his dad make food a lot at home since he was little. All their other friends love whenever they make extra food because it’s always delicious.

Kageyama and Hinata: are absolute disasters which is a surprise to no one. They really can not explain how it went from slowly cutting celery to the oven is on fire and everything is burnt. They always force themselves to eat whatever they made and swear it’s “Not that bad Tsukishima shut up! Stop laughing!” They are banned from two local cooking classes and that number will likely only grow.

Tsukishima and Yamaguchi: prefer baking but will go to the occasional cooking class just to prove they’re better at it than the freak twins. They manage to make it almost perfectly during the class but fail miserably when they try it again without the teacher’s guidance.

Yachi and Kiyoko: have a pretty good system. Yachi spends most of the class worried that she’ll do it wrong and Kiyoko ends up doing most of the work. Yachi always feels bad afterwards so she bakes something sweet for dessert. They end up remaking the dish a few times with Yachi’s dessert as well and it always ends up being really good.

Ukai and Takeda: only took one class as a joke because someone gave Grandpa Ukai a coupon but honestly didn’t do too bad. Ukai brought Takeda in order to stop the coupon gifter from setting him up with her free granddaughter (who was happy to not have to go). They both remember how to make the dish and occasionally bring some to one another for lunch as a surprise.

Are you playing volleyball these days?

Sawamura Daichi: I rarely ever touch a ball, but I do go watch matches every now and then.

Sugawara Koushi: I’ll sometimes play with my grade school students. I feel like that’s the time when I get the most respect from them, so I have mixed feelings.

Azumane Asahi: Rarely. I watch the live broadcasts for my friends’ and kouhai’s matches.

Tanaka (Shimizu) Kiyoko: We have a ball at home, so yes, on occasion. We also watch live matches often.

Nishinoya Yuu: I carry a ball on me, so I’ll play with anyone whenever I get the chance.

Tanaka Ryuunosuke: I will if I’m teaching a volleyball class, or messing around at home sometimes, stuff like that.

Ennoshita Chikara: I don’t play myself, but once in a while I’ll treat volleyball players at my practice.

Kinoshita Hisashi: I don’t really get the chance to play, but I occasionally watch live matches.

Narita Kazuhito: I play from time to time, since I was invited by a local group. I can’t jump anymore and it’s depressing.

I’d been thinking, I’ve always wanted to try going to all sorts of places, and it happened before I knew it.

What are some memorable anecdotes from your adventure so far?

In America I randomly played beach volleyball with this one older guy who was super good at it. Turns out it was Nicolas Romero.

What would you like to try in the future?

Gather people to go to the North Pole for some snow volleyball!
