In honor of completing my fan fiction goal of reading ALL of @karama9 ‘s Arashikage fan fiction. I have drawn myself a chibi Tommy.

1 - I prefer writing oneshots since they’re easier to make up stories for and don’t require much in the way of thought processing. Better to save that energy for a novel imo

16 - I like rereading fics because the stories are just so damn good.

18 - ooh, that's a tough one...I'd say it's more character and plot-driven. the characters and their actions help flesh out the outline of a plot I have.

I know right??? One of my proudest achievements lol.

And, just saying, I'm pretty damn happy with the two Dads I gave him in the story too. One of them even ended up with a sequel, they're some of my favorite OCs ever (except for various OC Links and Zeldas I keep creating). All in all I'm way more happy with that story than I should be for something I rushed out on a self imposed deadline.

Bouncing off this post real quick, I mentioned it in my reblog, but I figured maybe worthwhile to make a post about it. There's not a dedicated tag for original incarnation LoZ fics currently, and I think it makes this niche even harder to find. I think a community tag like how there's Link Meets would help a lot with finding these kinds of stories as well.

I wanted to propose to start the tag I've been using, Original Legends, as it's self explanatory in tandem with other LoZ tags and at the moment, I'm the only one using it on AO3 and Wattpad where I upload, so it's open for a fandom to take. Of course, if folks have better suggestions, please add them to this post and I can put a poll together. I'm also still pretty new to AO3, but is this the kind of thing a collection could be used for to help whatever tag is decided on gain some traction? I'm also open to setting up a reading list on Wattpad for the same purpose.

This blog is also really small, so I'm pinging a couple names that came up in that original post cause I'd love to get more folks who are also creating in this niche to chime in but I worry about my reach. I'll untag folks if you don't want to be included. Sorry for the rando tag!

I'm insane about this comic I'm crazy I'm crazy I'm crazy!!!!! I've been following it for around five years now and I'll never get enough of Link and Ganondorf just goofing off. On my hands and knees begging people to read this please it's so underrated. probably THE best characterization of Ganondorf I've seen in a long-running comic I'm dead serious he's great-- the perfect mix of pretty awful but has a begrudging respect for link (finally. after years...) The Beedle gags...Cia and Lana being silly lil sisters...

I started reading because I was interested in Link's personality and I haven't been disappointed. He's pretty cool! I like that he's already an experienced adventurer and honestly I'd read a bunch of chapters of him and Zelda just chilling because they're neat. I haven't read enough to fully understand the plot besides, well, spoilers, so there's plenty of mysteries to be solved still.

Really like the vibes here, as I have said, and Endeavor, because who wouldn't. The adventure has been progressing at a nice pace and I'm enjoying the little bits of characterization I've been picking up on in the dungeons. They really do feel very nicely done, and seeing as dungeons are tricky to make interesting I think this is impressive.

As for patterns, the first thing I notice is that I have a tendency to start off with something that will be important to the premise of the fic (1, 2, 3, 6), or imagery that helps immediately introduce the reader to the setting (1, 4, 5, 9). If I'm not doing that, I'm usually providing a hook that will develop into the rest of the fic's events or ideas (5, 7, 8, 10). The other thing I notice is that I wanted to edit (and did, a little bit—don't tell anyone hehe) almost every line for 4-10. Given that these were the last four fics from my month-long Song(fic) Challenge from last year, which I did not edit at the time and have not yet gone back to fix up, this isn't a surprise—but it is lighting a fire under my ass to edit those sometime soon lol.

The Mage's Lantern by @loz-untold-myths

Wintry Fantasy | General | Tumblr & AO3 | Ongoing

Synopsis: Hyrule is a kingdom plagued with eternal storms by a vengeful mage. A young boy named Link joins a fire spirit and Princess Zelda to save both her father and the kingdom itself, but Link's own motives remain buried in the snow.

The first thing that struck me in The Mage's Lantern is the amazing atmosphere that the author creates at all times. Hyrule, in this story, has been cast into an eternal winter, and the feel of it is constant, from how people take care not to bring snow inside, constantly have to deal with the cold, and from the more general effect it has had on the world, stripping away prosperity and giving a sense of long term survival strategies. From a breathless escape to a a day showing Hyrule's new normal through a seemingly run of the mill family in an ordinary village, to villains that positively ooze malevolence, everything is vivid. The characters, set in this frozen world, are by contrast warm (even fiery in one specific case...), very alive and instantly charming, and I can't wait to see what happens to them next. - Karama9

Familiar characters thrust into a fairytale setting. Thought and care was given to building a nuanced world with its own lore for the reader to discover along with the characters. Link and Zelda, with their courage and wit combined, make a formidable team to save a Hyrule buried beneath The Silver Tempest’s perpetual storm cloud. Plenty of action interspersed between quieter moments keeps the reader engaged and eager to see how it will all turn out. - Mistress Lrigtar

What a fun start, followed through with more diverse exploration of the premise than most projects will tackle a largely single "biome" world with. The characters are adorable and their personalities are great, perfect for bouncing off each other for a quest. I'm looking forward to more of these three as this story continues. - amelias-hart
