Part 1 of 2
Ku: The Liminal Sage and Her Journey Beyond the Stars
Tumblr media
Ku's essence is a radiant enigma, a spirit who embodies the intersection between the celestial and the earthly. Her appearance is mesmerizing, like a fragment of the cosmos itself. Her feathers, deep blue like the vast night sky, shimmer with a soft iridescence, reflecting the beauty of distant stars. Her face and chest bear striking white markings that contrast against her dark plumage, illuminating her expressive, wise eyes. The tips of her wings glow with an ethereal light, a beacon in the darkness, marking her as a being of magical, otherworldly grace. Unlike any ordinary owl, Ku is a spirit owl—her presence transcends the physical, existing as a living fragment of the Traveler’s will, a guide for those who seek balance and enlightenment.
As one of the Luminal Sages, Ku is far more than just a companion. She is Kara’s spiritual partner, guiding her through the complexities of both light and darkness. The Luminal Sages are beings born from the Pale Heart of the Traveler, a place within the Traveler itself, a core that holds the essence of Light—where memory, balance, and both light and dark converge. This ancient core is a wellspring of wisdom, deeply connected to the very heart of the universe. Unlike Guardians, who channel the Traveler's Light through their Ghosts, the Luminal Sages are born from this core and carry within them its knowledge, its compassion, and its deep understanding of both the Light and the Darkness.
Ku's ethereal nature as a spirit owl signifies her connection to this mystical energy. Her glowing wings, rippling like water under the moonlight, give her the aura of a celestial guide. Her presence exudes the stillness and wisdom that only an ancient soul can possess. Through her, Kara can perceive the subtle nuances of the universe, the places between worlds, the hidden threads that tie everything together.
For Kara, Ku is not just a guide, but a protector, much like the Jedi who once revered the balance of light and dark. Ku’s bond with Kara symbolizes the delicate balance between opposing forces—the Light and Darkness, the known and the unknown. Much like the concept of "Mori" in Ahsoka, where a deep connection to the Force brings understanding and clarity, Ku shares this same quiet yet powerful wisdom. But while "Mori" is a unique manifestation of the Force, Ku’s connection is more complex, transcending just one realm, encompassing both the ethereal and the cosmic, like the fading light of twilight before dawn.
The Luminal Sages’ philosophy revolves around the understanding that light and dark are not opposites, but parts of the same whole. It is this balance that makes them so different from Guardians, whose Light is channeled by their Ghosts. The Luminal Sages understand that true power lies in the acceptance of both sides, not just one or the other. They embody the very essence of the "yin and yang," where light and dark coexist, each incomplete without the other. They believe that life, like the Force, is a cycle, and in that cycle, there is no true death—only transformation. This perspective mirrors the Jedi Code: There is no death, only the Force.
Tumblr media
This belief is rooted in the Luminal Sages’ understanding of their origins, born from the Pale Heart of the Traveler, a place that holds the collective memory of not just the Traveler, but all that has been and all that will be. The Pale Heart is not merely a physical location—it is a metaphysical space that exists between worlds, a place of timeless memory. The old Tower, destroyed during the Red War, is now part of this memory, woven into the fabric of the Pale Heart. For the Luminal Sages, the Tower was never a lost place but their home, a place where they grew up, learned, and evolved alongside the Traveler’s energy. They are the living embodiment of the Traveler’s will and knowledge, protecting those who cannot protect themselves and understanding the value of balance.
This connection between Kara and Ku represents a unique bond between Light, Darkness, and the Force, bridging the gap between the worlds of the Traveler and the ancient wisdom of the Jedi. It is only after the Final Shape, when the Traveler and Veil become one, that a portal is opened to the world of the Luminal Sages, and the Guardians begin to understand this mystical lineage. Kara, in her essence, is a child of the Traveler, embodying both the Light and Darkness, and her journey is one of discovery, of learning what it means to be both a protector and a seeker of balance.
The Pale Heart of the Traveler
Tumblr media
To those unfamiliar with Destiny 2, the Pale Heart of the Traveler is an enigmatic concept. It represents an ancient, hidden core within the Traveler itself, a place that houses the collective memories and essence of the Light. It is the wellspring from which the Luminal Sages are born, and its connection to the universe is far deeper than most realize. The Pale Heart is a space of balance—where the energy of the Light and the forces of the Darkness come together to create a harmony that transcends time and space.
This is not merely a physical location within the Traveler but a metaphysical place where memory and spirit intertwine, creating an environment where the dualities of the universe can coexist. This balance between light and dark, known and unknown, is central to the Luminal Sages’ way of life. The Pale Heart's existence within the Traveler is a place of reflection, a memory of the old Tower before it was destroyed. To the Luminal Sages, the Tower is not gone—it is preserved in the Pale Heart, living on as part of their spiritual legacy.
The Meaning of Liminal
The term "luminal" carries with it a powerful significance. It refers to the spaces and moments between things—dawn and dusk, the edge of night and day, the threshold between light and dark. It is the time when the world is not entirely one thing or another but both at once. This concept mirrors the philosophy of the Luminal Sages: they are beings of both light and darkness, understanding the necessity of each for the balance of the universe. It is not about favoring one over the other, but about embracing both as integral parts of the whole.
For Kara, and for the Luminal Sages as a whole, their very existence is a testament to this delicate balance—just as twilight marks the transition from night to day, so too do they stand at the threshold of understanding, guiding those who seek to understand the mysteries of the universe. Their philosophy teaches that true wisdom comes from understanding that light and dark are not opposites but two sides of the same coin.
And as Kara walks her path, with Ku by her side, she learns what it truly means to be a child of the Traveler—one who embraces both the Light and the Darkness, with a heart full of compassion and wisdom. Together, they embody the heart of the Pale Heart, where memory, balance, and transformation coexist in perfect harmony.

Apart from show canon, at which point did u think it was too late for lena's immediate forgiveness to kara's identity reveal
oh boy. anon, here is where i come clean about my shoddy recollection of canon’s chronology. i’ve done so many fragmented rewatches and skipping back and forth—there’s a reason i rarely dabble with canon-adjacent stuff! and that even when i do, i create worlds where Lena figures it out herself!
second road bump to answering this question is that i have a LOT of feelings about how things played out on the show, and most of them are incongruent with the tone of sgcw. i understand their narrative reasons for keeping the secret from Lena for so long! but the execution is so, so terrible! ignoring large swathes of canon and replacing them with my own is the only way i’m able to enjoy at least the last tiny handful of seasons!
here is where i spend an hour procrastinating from my WIPs, while not successfully answering your question at all:
to be perfectly clear: i adore most parts of canon Kara. and i think i may be hard on her in ways i wouldn't be if i didn’t relate to her so much. i think her backstory is extremely compelling and i admire her ability to hold on to her kindness and hope and joy even after losing everything that was important to her, even when she’s tired and lonely and mad.
BUT. a healthy Lena—one who we were made to believe was finally freeing herself from Lex and Lillian, rising above the coping mechanisms she’d developed as an unwanted and emotionally neglected child? i don’t think that Lena would (should?) have forgiven canon Kara at all.
after the rift, canon Kara flitted between telling Lena she’d lied to her ‘to protect you’ to ‘one person who sees me only as Kara’ to ‘your last name’ to ‘didn’t want to lose you’ until she literally told Lena she was on her own, and she’d treat her like any other villain until Lena repented, even rejecting her apology at first, as if Kara’s own decisions had played no part in Lena’s downward spiral at all.
the Kara Lena would have forgiven is the much more cohesive and coherent Kara brought to us by our talented fix-it writers: a Kara who is willing to let herself be vulnerable and to second-guess her motivations, one who is able to put together a proper apology and actually listen to Lena's own.
but, okay, lets table all of that. this is me trying really, really hard to entertain canon:
Kara and Lena’s friendship became painfully lopsided by season 3. i think that was, if i recall correctly, when the super-friends decided to trust Lena enough to regularly ask her for assistance—but not enough to let her be part of their in-group; it’s where they left Lena in the dark about the fact that her best friend had come close to plunging to her death right in front of Lena's eyes, and was actively still fighting for her life; where they tricked Lena into having an extremely personal conversation with J’onn, while he was wearing Kara’s features, only to make belly-laughing fun of her about it later.
and even then, honestly, it might already have been too late. what about the aftermath of Jack’s death? was that season 2? Jack was Lena’s ex-everything, someone who genuinely loved her, who saw her through the fallout of Lex’s arrest. he was one of her last remaining friends, and Lena pressed the button to let him die in order to save Supergirl’s life. how would Lena knowing that Kara went through that with her, knowing Lena had chosen to save the life of her favorite person in addition to National City’s hero, have changed the way she felt about that horrible situation? that’s where that extremely wonderful heart-to-heart on the L-Corp couch happened, right? Kara swore she’d always be Lena’s friend—while keeping silent about the fact that she was there when Jack drew his last breath, that she had witnessed their final moments.
so—i really can’t tell you anon, i’m so sorry. the 100th episode already fabricated reasons why Kara couldn’t possibly come clean to Lena back when she made the conscious decision to be her friend (and not in a ‘keep your enemies close’ kind of way!), and i’m beginning to think that was the only moment Kara could have told Lena that would have kept her conscience completely clear. Kara should have made it part of her decision—either she was going to be Lena’s friend and give her the same trust Lena was giving her, or she would keep things professional, and keep her identity a secret from her.
Kara tried to do both, and if i really think about it, i don’t believe that was ever fair.

My 7 Blorbos! My 7 little dudes! If you see any OC art from me it's probably relating back to these guys! While there's buckets upon buckets of lore, these sillies are also just here to be smashed together for character interactions, shipping and cool action scenes that I happen to come up with! : >
LORE AND CHARACTER FACTS BELOW! :o
Ok ok ok, to preface, all of these guys exist in a somewhat-modern fantasy world in the early 2000's. (Cool fantasy creatures & monsters included). This also means that they get to indulge in early fandom and internet stuff too. :o
A very small portion of the population get cool golden tattoos called Marks which are manifestations of the worlds magic gifted to people. Each mark symbolizes a specific concept and can change based on persons growth! (Example: The Mark "Flare" can allow a person to shoot fire, create explosions or even fireworks, but it will never give someone the ability to shoot water.)
Ok back to these eeps!
Eve Takahashi: Resident grad student, gifted child burnout and woman in STEM, Eve is... well shes definitely smart. Horribly narcissistic and rather cold, Eve is only focused on her research into artifical marks, cute plushies, and planning revenge. Eve's mark "Hypergenesis" gives her control over the growth and function of her body. She uses it to do things like survive life-ending injuries or grow new limbs. Eve harbors a obssession with Emile who she wants to use to settle a old grudge. Frankly she's a bit silly, in a weird concerning way.
Lucas Zhao: An apprentice forgemaster that seeks to bend the rules of magic. Lucas is knowledgeable on many aspects of the mark world. Due to his prior study under a forgemaster program, Lucas has incredible precision in studying and crafting magical objects for the party to use. These abilities make him bear the responsibility of being the party's “general weapons expert” when he isn’t playing interference during combat using his mark "Fracture" Lucas can be extremely talkative and can struggle to read how others feel about him. In the past, this led to him being friends with many unsavory types. Lucas tends to clash mostly with Klaus and Lynne who aren’t tolerant of his constant jokes.
Kara Hayes: Frequent partygoer and adrenaline junkie, Kara lives for the thrill of combat, property damage… and explosions. Kara also seeks the admiration, affection, and attention of her peers which led her to assist the group in fighting Eve. While initially wanting the glory associated with beating her, Kara increasingly finds herself hunting her down, supposedly for vengeance.
Emile Martin: A fanatic of the magical, Emile wishes to explore and experience the intricacies of magical life. However, after a chance encounter with Eve, he finds himself mainpulated and hunted by her. Emile is kind and caring (Albeit a bit oblivious) which contrasts his mark "Vitality" which has the potential to control life and also to kill. Understandingly he's hesitant to use it, even again Eve.
Jin-sung-Cheong: A distant and reserved man with a passion for Sigils and Ritual Circles, Jin pursues information in the forbidden and esoteric. Jin was conducting research into sigils, curses, and ritual circles even before he got his mark, but he felt like he had reached the limit of what he could accomplish on his own. His extensive research led him to discover the published works of Eve Takahashi, someone he initially admired. Jin had intended to seek her out, however, he received his mark and therefore entry into the institute before he could make the trip. Jin is extremely poor at social communication and can struggle to convey his feelings in the appropriate way. Due to his blunt and concise nature, he can come across as unfeeling, cold, or just an asshole.
Sophia Kaminski: A amateur writer far outside of her comfort zone, Sophia possesses an overwhelming desire to learn and find herself. She utilizes swordsmanship and her mark "frost" to make herself a fierce melee combatant! Sophia's direct, serious, no-nonsense attitude sometimes brings her into conflict with her lazier, more laid-back friends. Even though she tries to maintain a judgemental and stubborn personality, deep down, she’s a dork.
Lynne Evans: Tough, stubborn and fierce, Lynne grew up in a isolated town, neglected by her mother. Expectingly, Lynne still harbors baggage that lets her channel her mark "Tenacity" giving her the strength and durability to survive against all odds. Even though she's amazingly strong (And kinda feared) Lynne desperately yearns for human connection and affection.

So, I now got back into Detroit: Become Human, and I have to say, I've honestly missed Connor and his beautiful face that reminds me of the learning puppy.
I also just found out that people make stories about the game and about my dude. I mean, everyone and anyone make up stories on paper and scenarios in their heads about anything. I can't really say I'm surprised about it.
What I am surprised is how no one, well, as far as I've read, has not made a story about reader being an android that was made to be specifically paired with Connor. I'd honestly very much like to read something like that.
Or should I make something like it? I do feel like writing, even though I'm working about 4 days out of the week, I'll be able to have enough time to come up with some stuff. Should be fun writing about a character with an already-made love interest.
