“four lies one truth” thing for ChoT?
youtube
Essentially it’s
“Matthew becomes a vampire” - I’ve supported this theory but honestly,, atp I feel like Cassie plays into it a bit too much and it makes me think this is false
“Lucie raises a zombie army” - A ghost army like when she rescued Cordelia? Idt Lucie would want to use her power on so many ghosts though, unless the situation were rly dire
“Thomas brings Alastair a fruit basket” - Okay, aw, I want this to happen. Would wonder about the context lol
Anna and Ariadne kidnap a boa constrictor - Plausible, as Anna has a pet (stuffed?) snake, maybe Percy wants a playmate
“The real Wayland the Smith makes an appearance” - OK this would be so cool if he helped Cordelia with being paladin or smth because he’s like this idealized figure and it would be nice to actually meet him. Would Cassie put the one truth at the end 😭

Bella do you know the story of the maiden and the selkie
And should I write it for Thomastair Gracetopher or Kamanna-
Like the Heather Dale song?
And I mean obviously I am so biased towards gracetopher, but if you’re talking about what I think you are, I think it could work really well for them!

“The invisible killer: The potential health effects of secondhand or passive smoking.”
Tumblr media
Fatima Begum, a 35-year-old Bangladeshi woman who lives in a small village name Kamanna. She sought help from a local doctor after experiencing a sudden increase in headaches, who gave her a prescription for some over-the-counter medication. After some months, she did some medical tests and came to know that she had laryngeal cancer. While Fatima doesn't smoke, her husband does and smokes in the house and around her even though she doesn't. She has had a lot of health issues as a result of years of exposure to secondhand smoking. Fatima frequently feels nauseated, lightheaded, and headache, which she attributes to the smoke. She also experiences chest pain and trouble breathing. Her health has been slowly declining, and she has needed medical attention on a number of occasions. Even worse, Fatima is not the only member of her family who is impacted by passive smoking. Due to exposure to their father's smoking, her two kids, ages 7 and 9, have also developed respiratory issues and recurrent coughs. Her spouse has consistently ignored Fatima's requests to stop smoking or to smoke outside the home. He makes the case that he has the right to smoke at any time and that it is not his responsibility that his family is harmed. Regrettably, Fatima's story is not uncommon in Bangladesh. Daily exposure to second-hand smoke is common for non-smokers in this country, frequently without their knowledge. This is a serious public health concern that must be addressed.
What exactly is passive smoking or secondhand smoking?
A film that serves as an introduction to secondhand smoking,
Tumblr media
The World Health Organization estimates that annual premature deaths from passive smoking total more than 600,000. More than 7,000 chemicals—many of them harmful and carcinogenic—are present in the smoke produced by cigarettes. By inhaling this smoke, a person increases their risk of contracting a variety of illnesses, such as lung cancer, heart disease, and infections of the lungs.
youtube
Children are more susceptible to passive smoking's effects. They are more vulnerable to problems with breathing since their lungs are smaller and still growing. Additionally, since they have little control over their surroundings, they are frequently exposed to smoke in their homes or cars.
Tumblr media
The effects of passive smoking, commonly referred to as secondhand smoke, on children’s health can be profound. Here are a few possible outcomes:
● Childrenwhoareexposedtosecondhandsmokehaveahigher chance of contracting respiratory conditions such pneumonia, bronchitis, and asthma. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that each year in the United States, exposure to secondhand smoke results in 7,500 to 15,000 hospitalizations for respiratory diseases in newborns and young children younger than 18 months.
● AdocumentedriskfactorforSuddennewbornDeathSyndrome (SIDS), which is the sudden and unexplained death of an otherwise healthy newborn under one year of age, is secondhand smoking exposure. Up to 1,000 newborn deaths from SIDS occur each year in the United States as a result of secondhand smoke exposure, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
● Earinfections,whichcanresultinhearinglossandotherissues, are more likely to occur in kids who are exposed to secondhand smoking. The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that each year in the US, secondhand smoke exposure causes 790,000 cases of ear infections in children.
● Thelikelihoodofbehavioralissuesinchildren,suchas hyperactivity, aggression, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), may increase if they are exposed to secondhand smoke. Children who were exposed to secondhand smoke were 50% more likely to experience behavioral issues than children who were not exposed, according to a study published in the journal Pediatrics.
Tumblr media
Additionally, passive smoking has a sizable financial impact. The cost of smoking-related sickness in the United States alone is estimated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to be over $300 billion annually. This covers the price of medical care, lost productivity, and early mortality.
youtube
Many people still smoke near others despite the risks of passive smoking. To promote awareness and lessen the prevalence of passive smoking, numerous organizations and people are, nonetheless, making an effort.
Some last words
Millions of individuals worldwide are impacted by the substantial health risks associated with passive smoking. We may contribute to the protection of our own health and the health and wellbeing of our families, our communities, and our workplaces by bringing attention to the risks of passive smoking and implementing effective measures to reduce exposure to cigarette smoke. It is obvious that passive smoking poses a severe health risk and that we can all do our part to lessen the risks involved with this dangerous habit.

Title and lyrics from Water Fountain by Alec Benjamin
I tagged Anna as an anti just to be safe and Kamala is Ariadne in this fic because Anna still calls her that
Tagging @have-a-holly-jolly-angstmas @writeordie-4 @littlx-songbxrd @life-through-the-eyes-of @tessherongraystairs @melanielocke @wagnerthedragon @who-beingloved-ispoor
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Water Fountain
She told me that she loved me by the water fountain
Anna knew it wasn’t fair of her to act like this. She knew but she couldn’t help it.
She told me that she loved me and she didn't love him
Her former lover had gotten together with Eugenia, her cousin of all people.
And that was really lovely 'cause it was innocent
It wasn’t that Eugenia was a horrible person, far from it, actually. She’d always been one of Anna’s favorite cousins and they’d always gotten along well.
But for Ariadne to go to Eugenia after ending it with her? That hurt.
But now she's got a cup with something else in it
So now Anna was watching them flirt from her corner of the Institute’s ballroom, smoking a blunt of cheroot and sulking.
Well, not sulking, sulking is for boring people.
It's getting kind of blurry at a quarter-past-ten
And he was in a hurry to be touching her skin
They were dancing now, in front of everybody. Something Ariadne had never been brave enough to do when they were together
She's feeling kind of dirty when she's dancing with him
Forgetting what she told me by the water fountain
Fuck. Anna was definitely sulking. This was a terrible feeling, how did people live with this?
Now he's grabbing her hips, and pulling her in
Kissing her lips, and whispering in her ear
Anna wanted to scream, to cry, to sob. But she had to keep her cool. She had to pretend to be over Ariadne, pretend that she didn’t care that she was dancing in her cousin’s arms.
And she knows that she shouldn't listen
I still love you, Ari. Anna thought as she watched Ariadne smile, brighter than the summer sun.
At least Eugenia made her happy.
And that she should be with me by the water fountain
Who is tlh Anna Lightwood? I only know Every Exquisite Thing Anna Lightwood, yk, the one who didn't treat women like they're trophies to be won and was a good gf to Kamala Joshi
The amount of potential the idea of Anna had will never not make me angry
I liked Anna in EET and thought she would be one of my favorites but haha no
Like she was still spoiled and didn’t understand the concept of privilege but if the story had taken a different route where Anna had to be the one to make an effort and apologize to Kamala? And promise to help her and actually treated Kamala as an equal? Wish it happened
Thoughts on Arianna/Kamanna 👀
Okay UMMMM first of all, contrary to popular belief, I didn’t find them so bad in choi???
Anna made it clear that she would only have a physical relationship with Ariadne/Kamala, and she consented to it. Anna seems to respect the fact that Kamala wants a secret relationship, and sure the fact that they have feelings for each other (even if Anna refuses to admit it, it’s so damn clear) makes it angsty, but not particularly unhealthy??? I will agree there’s a bit of an imbalance between them as Anna has a strong support system to fall back on whereas Kamala does not.
One thing I don’t like, however, is how the narrative places all the blame of how their relationship fell apart on Kamala alone. In EET, Kamala says that she’d like to be in a relationship with Anna for about an year or two before he has to marry Charles, but Anna refuses. They both wanted different things out of their relationship, and they split, and that’s okay. They were both heartbroken, in the end. But Kamala shouldn’t have to face the blame for their heartbreak alone.
But their story is still incomplete and there’s still one more book before they become endgame, so I can’t pass full judgement on them yet. So, in chot, as long as A) Kamala makes some friends and gains a support system and B) Anna gets her shit together and begins to see things from Kamala’s perspective, I’ll say they’re a pretty solid ship 🥰🥰🥰
Kamanna and “Why’d You Only Ever Call Me When You’re High?” for the summary thing ❤️
A story of two girls, polar opposite but best friends. When one of them confesses their feelings and the other isn't ready to accept it their friendship starts to die.
When Kamala goes to university, she gets in with a rough crowd. She starts doing hard drugs and eventually when her heart grows too heavy with longing for Anna and her head is spinning with the smoke in her lungs she calls her.
Her Anna.
Anna's had enough of it. She wants answers to the many questions Kamala has left her with. And she's going to get them.
Honestly I think Kamala and Anna are hung up on each other because it's a first love thing.
It was the first (and for Kamala the only) time they had an experience with another woman, and usually your first love is incredible and all that until you break up and grow out of it, right?
But they had to break up because of external circumstances, not because they got together and realized that's not really how it works, so now they're each other's big What If and can't let it go.
hi!
this is also a valid explanation! as you say, they didn't have a chance to gradually grow out of that relationship, so in their heads it's kinda like "it was amazing and cut short", so it's understandable the what ifs haunt them.
i like your thinking anon!
i mean it can coexist with our wild Kamala interpretation/theory, so that's even better lol
I actually wrote a part of this right after CHOI came out and abandoned it, but the snippet in June's newsletter fueled my anger for Anna, so!
guiltless
Characters: Alastair Carstairs, Anna Lightwood, Kamala Joshi (mentioned)
Anti Anna, anti Kamanna, stans DNI.
TWs/CWs: past toxic relationship, implied forced outing?, smoking, ask to tag.
—————
Alastair knew Kamala disliked confrontations- or, at least, when they were about her. He suspected she would fist-fight Raziel for him or any of their friends, which only reassured his decision to confront Anna Lightwood—far from an angel, but just as intimidating—for her.
That wasn’t his original plan for the night. Alastair meant to accompany his family to yet another ball thrown by the Townsends (did they ever tire of those?) and take turns dancing with Kamala and Eugenia until his mother wished to return home. But his dancing partners wanted some alone time, and he had nothing better to do; it wasn’t his fault Anna went outside at the same time as him.
“Mister Carstairs.” She greeted him. Alastair noticed her presence before she had to. Everything about Anna, from the way she dressed to the way she walked, demanded all eyes to be on her.
“Miss Lightwood.” Just be polite and walk away, he told himself. But they were on a balcony. He couldn’t walk anywhere but back inside. Inside, where Kamala was, where Charles was, where Eugenia and Augustus Pounceby were. So Alastair added in a conversational tone:
“What are you doing out here? Shouldn’t you be inside, dancing with one of your conquests?”
Anna looked at him, eyebrows raised as if she’d forgotten he was there. She brought her cigarette to her lips. “Happy to know I have a reputation. You’ve been talking to Miss Bridgestock, I presume?”
He tensed up. She didn’t know how much he knew. Any implication could ruin Kamala’s life. Be polite, walk away. But he was already past that point.
“I have, in fact. I wonder how many hearts you’ve broken, so that hers doesn’t matter at all. Do you have a list in a notebook somewhere, perhaps on a chalkboard?”
“Notebook.” Anna said, not tearing her gaze away from him. She threw her cigarette to the ground and stepped on it, already lighting another one. “Did Ariadne lecture you on what to say, or are those brave words all yours? Enough glaring at me, Carstairs, just say what you want to say.”
Alastair crossed his arms tightly across his chest, wondering if this was worth it. He played with the buttons on his sleeve—something Kamala taught him to do so he would stop digging his fingernails into his skin. Kamala.
“Alright. We both know your reputation, Miss Lightwood. I happen to know how much of it is true.” Usually Alastair would calculate his words, but it was too late for logic. “And what I know tells me you’re a bloody asshole, with no consideration for your lovers. Do you feel anything over kicking crying girls out of your doorstep? Is nearly destroying Ariadne’s life not enough to make you feel remorse?”
Anna studied his face for a long minute. Whatever she found brought a smirk to her face
“Oh, Alastair,” she blew out smoke. “Don’t think I haven’t noticed the way you looked at Charles during his engagement with Miss Bridgestock. I have an extensive history with secrets, Mr. Carstairs, enough to recognize one when I see it. If you know about Ariadne and I as much as you claim, you should be able to understand.”
Alastair held his breath. He hadn’t seen this many shades of red since his father was alive.
“Don’t you ever compare yourself to me. I would never blame someone for hiding a part of themselves they knew the world would despise. People aren’t fair to us; you should be able to understand that.” He lowered his voice. “I hate Charles for many of his choices, Miss Lightwood, but being afraid isn’t a choice.”
She rolled her eyes, taking a long drag from her cigarette. “You act like you’re so much better than me. Ariadne would be here if she cared. She knows her place, and it is not with me.”
“Of course not. It is at your feet, isn’t it?” Memories of Kamala came to him, head down with shame, fighting back tears. Alastair clenched his jaw. “Don’t think that because Ariadne put herself before a girl she knew for less than a week, that gives you the right to treat her poorly. To treat any woman poorly, for that instance.”
The music inside was impossibly loud, but the silence that followed could have burst his eardrums open. Anna scoffed. “You can’t possibly think you have the right to judge anyone.”
“I don’t, but has that ever stopped anyone? Go ahead, make a speech about how love is dead. At the end of the day, you’re the one killing it.”
Anna blinked at him once, twice, the playful look on her face gone. “Matthew was right about you.”
With that, she put out her cigarette and went back inside, leaving Alastair alone with her words and his thoughts. He felt a sting in his forearm; his fingernails left dents in his skin. Alastair sighed. He was glad he defended his friend, at least.
Small victories.
