guys. look at this adorable frog. he’s the best boy ever and gets 10/10 points for being so cute and so eepy.

oh hey look another cute frog! and he gets 10/10 points for sitting there and looking pretty!

both these screenshots are from a game called kamaeru! the game is like if you mixed the vibes and gameplay of neko atsume with a farming simulator and made it frog themed. the frogs are adorable and the gameplay is really fun! there’s a lot to do but it’s not stressful or overstimulating.

the point of the game is to collect resources to fund your frog sanctuary and buy furniture to attract different types of frogs and also to restore different wetland areas. you can also tame the frogs, name the frogs (i named some of my frogs miku, rin, and len for funsies), take photos of the frogs, and meet different types of frogs as you progress in the game.

this game is super fun and relaxing! and it has cute frogs. frogs <3

oh and also. you meet a dog once you get a bit further along in the game AND THE GAME LETS YOU PET THE DOG!!!!

more games should have the option to pet dogs in my humble opinion

The second demo I'll be checking out is Lost Twins II from Playdew, they only sent me the request two days ago but I immediately said yes! I love puzzle/platformer games and this one has such a cute premise, I'm really looking forward to playing it!

Cozy farming simulation game Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge to be published by Armor Games Studios

Armor Games Studios will publish Humble Reeds-developed cozy farming simulation game Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge for PC (Steam), the companies announced. A release date was not announced.

“We are very happy to work with Armor Games on Kamaeru,” said Humble Reeds’ co-founders in a press release. “They have published games that we love, and we absolutely share their values of kindness, integrity, and quality.”

Armor Games Studios’ Michelle Lega, who is also senior producer on Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge added, “It was love at first ribbit with Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge. The Humble Reeds team shares our approach to making games with care and compassion, and we hopped at the chance to help them bring their frog refuge to life!”

Here is a brief overview of the game, via Armor Games Studios:

Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge is a charming life management game where you can discover, photograph, feed, and breed over 1,000 frogs that visit your refuge! Work with your new friends to dig ponds, plant crops, and decorate to keep the wetlands happy, healthy, and teeming with frogs. The more you develop your refuge, the more successful it’ll become, bringing new visitors, crops, clothes, furniture, and of course, frogs!

While I'm here I should take some notes about all the demos I've been going through from the Indie Arena Booth event on Steam.

Kamaeru is full of very cute frogs, but I'm not sure the actual gameplay would keep me hooked for super long. The UI and controls are also slightly wonky with a controller. Still perfectly usable, but they could use another polish pass.

Schim also has some good frogs, and the shadow-hopping puzzle-solving gameplay was more engaging for me. I did have some minor issues with the camera and being able to see where I wanted to go and how to get there, but not enough that I didn't still enjoy it.

Awaken - Astral Blade is basically what if Ender Lilies but everything about it was slightly worse. Considering I didn't vibe with Ender Lilies enough to finish it (even though I think it's very well made), this one is a nope for me.

Space Sprouts seems like an interesting idea, but controller support was aggressively broken for me. It's anyone's guess which UI elements will respond to controller input and which need a mouse. Maybe it works better for other people, but it was largely unplayable for me.

30 Birds is probably both the weirdest and most interesting of all of these to me. I didn't even finish the demo and want to wait until the rest of the game is done in a year or after however many more delays. Between this and Vectronom and Bury Me, My Love I think ARTE France might be onto something.

I downloaded some more, but I haven't gotten to any of the others yet because construction is very loud and hard to brain think good.

Developed by Humble Reeds and published by Armor Games Studios, this cozy farming sim is all about frogs, farming, and nature love. You play as a kind soul helping an old friend revive the wetlands from your childhood. Your mission? Turn them into a safe haven for friendly little frogs.
