Staying Safe: Understanding Head Injuries in Honolulu
Head injuries can occur unexpectedly and have serious consequences. Whether it's a minor bump or a severe trauma, understanding the nature of head injuries and how to handle them is crucial, especially in a city like Honolulu where active lifestyles and outdoor activities are common.
Common Causes of Head Injuries in Honolulu
Honolulu offers various outdoor activities, from surfing to hiking, that carry inherent risks. Accidents can happen during these activities, leading to head injuries. Common causes include:
Sports-related incidents: Surfing, skateboarding, and other sports can lead to falls and collisions.
Motor vehicle accidents: Car crashes are a leading cause of head injuries, especially on busy roads like H-1 and Kalanianaole Highway.
Slip and falls: Uneven terrain, wet surfaces, and poorly maintained areas can lead to accidents resulting in head trauma.
Recognizing Symptoms of Head Injury
Not all head injuries are immediately apparent. It’s essential to be aware of the signs that could indicate a more severe condition:
Headache or dizziness
Nausea or vomiting
Confusion or memory loss
Loss of consciousness
Difficulty with balance or coordination
If any of these symptoms occur after a head injury, seeking medical attention promptly is vital.
Seeking Treatment in Honolulu
Honolulu is home to excellent medical facilities, including The Queen’s Medical Center and Straub Medical Center, where you can receive specialized care for head injuries. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent further complications and promote a full recovery.
Preventing Head Injuries
Prevention is key to avoiding head injuries. Always wear protective gear during sports, use seat belts while driving, and stay cautious in environments that might pose a risk of falls. In conclusion, understanding the risks and proper response to head injuries in Honolulu can help you stay safe and enjoy all that this beautiful city has to offer.

E Kupuna, ʻAuhea kahi e hele ai? Where is the place to go? Lets do this…again. My turn, our turn , your turn. We started the decade strong, we keep going-hoe wa’a. We got ohana farm land, we gave out kalo, imunation of Hema campus arboretum, put in all the Ulu full basics…round two replace all the ohana trees and feed our papa healthy ahupuaa nutrients. It’s that time again, doing the rounds I didnt drop Pepperdine and Harvard research to miss out teaching Temana this…obviously it ain’t no secret we can cultivate aloha. More than 20 groves and farms up, cleaning and invasive going down. A surprise too! #together #letsgo #kalanianaole #jonahkuhiokalanianaole #hawaiianhomescommissionsact1921 #climateaction #kauai @thewestkauai #kauaitonight 2017 Kauai County Council members have rejected $100,000 in private donations to fund a climate action plan for their rural island, which is particularly susceptible to rising sea levels, stronger storms and other effects of climate change. In a 4-3 vote last week, Council Chair Rapozo and members Kaneshiro, Kagawa and Brun opposed a request from Mayor Carvalho’s administration to accept $50,000 from the Hawaii Community Foundation and a matching $50,000 from NPO. “You don’t need a plan to tell you that you help the environment if you walk more, if you bike more, catch the bus more,” Kagawa said. “If the federal government is working on it, let them do it.” Councilwoman Yukimura, who along with Councilmen Kawakami and Chock supported accepting the money, pointed out at the meeting that the United States is no longer leading on climate change. “Under President Trump, we’re withdrawing from [the Paris climate accord ]really losing face in the world,” Yukimura said. The Paris agreement, signed by 195 nations in 2015, established a goal of limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and plan to work together to adapt to climate change. “That’s why the cities now are rising to address it and saying we’re going to do it because it’s affecting the lives of our citizens, it’s affecting the planet and I think this county needs to join in and do that,” We all said!! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbr-d0rr9i4/?utm_medium=tumblr

I'm from Hawaii and at one point worked in a building on Kamehameha highway and can 100% confirm I did this
Favorite moments from working telephone customer service:
•customer: (currently putting in a bulk order for reusable menstrual cups to give to refugee camps) Have you ever been to Africa?
Me: No
Customer: Can I rant to you for a bit about giraffes?
Me: Sure, why not
Customer: ok so this asshole decided to wake me up this morning by sticking his head through my window-
...
•Customer (a sweet little old lady with a strong New Orleans accent): Ohh sweetie, have you ever been classically trained in opera?
Me: I've been trained in singing but I can't say I've ever done opera.
Customer: Well you should. Your voice is like butter and that's your speaking voice! Hon, if you're ever in New Orleans you find me and I am gonna get you a spot on stage!
(I later found out she was a singer for the New Orleans Opera Association when she was younger)
(Sadly I've still never been there)
...
•Customer is calling in from Hawaii
Me: So just to confirm, your shipping address is 123 Ka-... *quietly* Oh no...
Customer, sounding like he's really holding back his absolute glee: Say it. Say it out loud.
Me, knowing approximately nothing of the Hawaiian language but have seen Dragon Ball Z: 123 kame... hame... ha? boulevard?
Customer: (fucking dying of laughter on the phone)

It's August 20th, 🌺 Hawaii Statehood Day. The US annexed Hawaii in 1898 during the Spanish-American War for strategic purposes and continued to maintain the islands as a military command post during World War II. Many Hawaii statehood bills were introduced in Congress through the years – the first one by Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole in 1919. It wasn't until 1959, though, that Congress finally approved a Hawaii statehood bill, after a referendum in which 94% of Hawaiian residents voted in favor of statehood. Many Native Hawaiians were opposed to statehood, though. They argued that America's initial acquisition of Hawaii was illegal and were in favor of Hawaiian sovereignty. There was also some resistance from the racist southern states who didn't like Hawaii's ethnic diversity.
Since 1969, we've been observing the third Friday in August as a state holiday to commemorate the anniversary of the day (which was actually Friday, August 21st) in 1959 that US President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the proclamation making Hawaii America's 50th state. As might be expected, though, the holiday is not without controversy and debate, as many argue that celebrating this day is culturally insensitive to Native Hawaiians. In consideration of this fact, Hawaii Statehood Day is mainly observed as a silent holiday with no big events held in honor of it. ☮️ Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet

“That’s why the cities now are rising to address it and saying we’re going to do it because it’s affecting the lives of our citizens, it’s affecting the planet and I think this county needs to join in and do that,” We all said!! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbr62brlPsy/?utm_medium=tumblr
