1 - Oof. Starting off with an immediate head-scratcher... Um. Well, I think "If I Killed Someone For You" by Alec Benjamin really speaks to my fic, Monikers. I think about it sometimes, how well the lyrics fit Kakashi's relationship with Konoha. (However, I must admit that I listen to an embarrassing amount of Taylor Swift and Juice Wrld while writing, so those will always remind me of my fics).

15 - I've actually been lucking out by playing on aspects of Kakashi's character (Doujutsu no Kakashi / instead of Sharingan no Kakashi, Silver Demon / reference to the hair). Monikers is a curious one since it is literally a reference to all of his titles. It's gonna be a series, and each title is going to be a new "moniker" for him (can't be revealed because... spoilers :D). In general, though? I'm SO bad at titles. They're often cheezy or bland, and they will go through many iterations while I work on the outline.

23 - For a long time, I had a word count that I met. But, recently, it's literally wherever feels right. I don't like to leave readers on cliffhangers (not big ones, anyway), so I try to end them nicely. Each chapter is frequently its own little arc, allowing me to cut it off neatly. Part of that, however, means that sometimes cliffhangers are a nice spot to leave off on, though >:-)

I totally understand the confusion, I only have one proper multi-fic series but there's a lot of topical and thematic overlap, so let's see if I can't clear this up a bit~

Fourth Year Anniversary!

Today is my fourth anniversary as a KakaIru creator! Normally, I share a bunch of statistics; but this time, I’d like to reflect on the past year, and some of the things I have planned for the future, instead.

Firstly, I don’t think I have created as much this year as the other years, as a lot has happened irl; and a good chunk of my writing time was taken away because I just got so overwhelmed with life, and I found it hard to think.

It’s sad, because I absolutely love writing, and have so many ideas that I want to get out there; but I just couldn’t manage it as much as I wanted to.

I am proud to say, though, that I managed to write 25 fics, with a total word count of 121 926 words (having calculated that just now, I’m actually impressed I wrote so much – I wasn’t really expecting to reach over 100k!)!

Out of all of the new fics, I think my favourite one is my WIP, Linked (CW: NSFW & some dark chapters), which is the fic I wanted to write to celebrate reaching a milestone of 100 fics on ao3, where I got people to tell me what they wanted me to write.

You guys gave me so many suggestions with characters and tropes that you liked; and I was excited to challenge myself by including all of the tied number one votes, rather than choosing just one/ doing a revote.

Sadly, I haven’t finished it yet, and have only done 19/28 chapters (approx. 45.4k words); but that brings me to my future plans.

I really love the story so far, of Kakashi and Iruka being handcuffed together and having to figure out how to free themselves, as well as everything else I have planned for it; and I am going to pick up on it again, and aim to have it complete before my next anniversary (but hopefully even earlier!).

I also want to finish another WIP I suddenly stopped after 14/23 chapters (approx. 19.8k words), The Rift (CW: Dark), which I started in the first KakaIru Maze Challenge I ran, Into The Ancient World. I had gotten the prompt ‘Afterlife’; and started a story about Kakashi dying, and trying to find his way back home, while Iruka stays by his side at the hospital.

It’s an idea I’ve had since I was a kid, but I could never settle on the characters I wanted, and had never finished any stories at the time, so it was just something I daydreamed about; but I have grown as a writer since then, and want to finally turn the dream into a reality, and share it with everyone!

There is one more main project that I’ll be working on this year, too; but it is massive, and I can’t say when I’ll finish it. It’s like a choose-your-own-adventure, combined with an otome game; and Iruka, who will be the main character, can end up with one of four ships, depending on the choices he makes throughout the story 👀

I have planned it out entirely, and just need to finish writing it out; but with the amount of options I’ve added throughout the fic (over 100, if I remember correctly), there is going to be a lot of writing to do (I’d say at least 80k words), so, as much as I want to finish & share it, I probably won’t be able to do that this year. But it is something I’m very excited about!

Those are the main things I want to focus on, but I will more than likely write other fics when I get inspired, and/or add to some of my series; especially Family Adventures, which is my dad kakairu series featuring Kaito, their genius son, and In A Land Far, Far Away, my Star Wars AU where Kakashi gives refugees Iruka & Naruto the life they deserve ❤️

This is not a serious post but anyway, ehm ehm correct me if i am wrong. Yeah kakashi was narutos teacher when he was 27 but he was 22 or 23 years old when he became a teacher. Well not a teacher, he started to kick students and made them try to take the bells. Again anyway :') I am just curious. If i would bring my oc to this universe and made her age 16 and again make her a student of konoha, of kakashi. What would happen? Hm... Well maybe i won't continue this or i don't know, you won't like this. And i know the most of people in this fandom ship kakashi with obito, itachi, gai, iruka etc etc :') well i ship him with them either. -Oh! And one more ship kakashixreader, well... i didn't read those fictions that much so i can't talk about it that easy gomen- But i am curious what if i started a serie that including kakashi and my oc would you like it? I really am curious. So let's see.

How old is kakashi through out the series when he was young to boruto sorry

• According to my research and calculations Sakumo died when Kakashi was 4 (I explained this here)

• According to the Manga Kakashi graduated from the academy at 5 and became Chunin at 6.

• Again according to my calculations here he became Jounin at 9 which is based on Naruto Shippuden episode 483 which is a filler BUT!! we have another filler episode in Boruto states that Kakashi was 12 when he became Jounin so like @pax-thuban said before it's the battle of fillers lol, I myself would choose Naruto fillers over Boruto fillers any given day but if you chose to go with the Boruto filler for this part, that would be okay too I guess.

• According to Kakashi Anbu arc, Itachi joined Anbu at 11 and was slightly younger than Kakashi when he joined Anbu so Kakashi was 12/13 years old when he joined Anbu.

• He was 14 years old when Naruto was born and Minato died the day of the Kyuubi attack.

• He spent 10 years in Anbu before Hiruzen makes him a Jounin Sensei so he was around 22/23 when he left Anbu and became Jounin Sensei and started failing kids lol.

• He started teaching team 7 at 26 according to the 1st databook and he was 27 when og Naruto ended according to the 2nd databook.

• He was 29 at the beginning of Shippuden according to the 3rd databook and 31 at the end of the war according to the 4th databook.

• He became Hokage at 32 according to Kakashi Hiden.

• He was 33 in Naruto the movie which was 2 years after the war.

• He was 46 at the beginning of Boruto since Naruto stated that 15 years has passed since the end of the war in Boruto the movie.

• And according to the recent Boruto episodes a year has passed so right now he is 47.

Naruto Characters Ages Oldest to Youngest!

ok so i did a shit ton of research to try n find out the age differences between Naruto and everyone else bc the series doesn’t use years and here is my attempt!

Temari: Born August 23; 3 years older then Naruto

Kankuro: Born May 15; 1 or 2 years older then Naruto

Neji: Born July 3; 1 year older then Naruto

Lee: Born November 27; 1 year older then Naruto

Tenten: Born March 9

Sakura: Born March 28 (One possibility)

Choji: Born May 1 (One possibility)

Kiba: Born July 7

Sasuke: Born July 23

Shikamaru: Born September 22

Ino: Born September 23

Naruto: Born October 10

Hinata: Born December 27

Gaara: Born January 19; 1 year younger then Naruto

Shino: Born January 23; 1 year younger then Naruto

Sakura: Born March 28; 1 year younger then Naruto (One possibility)

Choji: Born May 1; 1 year younger then Naruto (One possibility)

(my best attempt at an explanation below, its very long (~1000 words?) but its detailed to keep things easy to understand)

I’m gonna try to make this as short and understandable as possible but I’m kinda bad with words so… sorry in advance. All my info is coming from the manga, anime, narutopedia, and this on reddit. I’m only using info from Part 1 because Part 2 is really weird about dates (like apparently Naruto was 15-17 in Shippuden but Hinata was 16 the whole time?)

Just to make everything easy, we’re gonna say Naruto was born in 2000. Now I’m just gonna state the information we know: 

The Chunin Exams went from June 24 to August 6. 

The rookie 9 + Gaara were all 12 turning 13. 

Kankuro, Lee, Tenten, and Neji were all 13 turning 14. 

Temari was 14 turning 15. 

Everyone in the rookie nine graduated at 12 at the same time.

How we’ll be finding the ages will be based on the date they graduated the academy (aka when Part 1 started), and when Naruto left with Jiraiya (when Part 1 ended). Neither of the dates were stated, so we need to narrow down the times they occurred. 

Since we know Naruto was born in 2000, and that he was twelve at the time of his graduation, we can say the EARLIEST part 1 started is in Mid-October, 2012. As for the latest day, during the mission to the Land of Waves, Kakashi mentions that it’s Spring. Spring in Japan, as well as other places, goes from March to May. So, the latest date Part 1 could have started would be May, 2013. 

Now, we can start to find certain character’s birthdays. Everyone would have to be 12 after May, 2013. So, if they have a birthday before mid-October, we can determine that they are born in 2000. To explain why, Part 1 could have started on any day between mid-October and May. If we know a character has a birthday in December, we cannot determine their birthday yet. This is because they would have to be 12 before graduation, and their graduation could have occurred in November. This would make them have to be born in 1999, as they wouldn’t have hit their 12th birthday yet. However, graduation could also be in January, so they could be born in 2000. 

But we’ll figure those characters out later. The ones that we can confirm are: Sasuke, Kiba, Neji, Shikamaru, and Ino. Sasuke was born in 2000 (July 23), Kiba was born in 2000 (July 7), Shikamaru was born in 2000 (September 22), and  Ino was born in 2000 (September 23). Neji (July 3) was confirmed to be 13 turning 14 in Part one, meaning Neji was born in 1999. 

Now, we’re going to use Neji’s birthday to find out when Naruto left the village. We know Neji was 13 when Part 1 started, and 14 when it ended. Because his birthday occurs the earliest in the year, we can confirm that Naruto had to leave the village on July 2, 2014 at the absolute latest. This is because Neji would turn 15 on the next day, when he was confirmed to be 14. 

Next, we need to start looking at the dates of the Chunin Exams. They occured June 24 to August 6, 2013. We know that they occured in 2013 because of Sasuke’s birthday. He was 12 in 2012, and turned 13 on July 23, 2013. Because this day falls over the Chunin Exams, we know they couldn’t have happened in 2014, as he would turn 14. 

So, we’ll use the last day of the Chunin Exams to find out the earliest that Naruto left the village. The last day was August 6th. However, more stuff happened after this date, like the Search for Tsunade arc. In the anime, you could see a stamp card Jiraya had which showed the whole arc took 6 weeks. This pushed the earliest date to December 17.

After this arc came the Sasuke Retrieval Mission. Since I have no way to tell how long that took, I won’t count it at all. However, Tsunade mentioned that 3 months passed between that mission and Naruto’s departure. If you add those all together, the absolute earliest day Naruto would leave Konoha would be March 17, 2014.

To restate everything we know so far: The earliest Part 1 could have STARTED is Mid-October, 2012. The latest it could have started is May, 2013. The earliest Part 1 could have ENDED is March 17, 2014. The latest Part 1 could have ended is July 2, 2014. 

Because we know Part 1 dragged on to AT LEAST March 17, we can confirm some ages: Temari (August 23) was born in 1997. Rock Lee (November 27) was born in 1999. Hinata (December 27) was born in 2000. Shino (January 23) was born in 2001. Gaara (January 19) was born in 2001.

And, for the most interesting one (to me): Tenten (March 9) was born in 2000. However, we know the series started when Tenten was 13. This moves the earliest day Part 1 could have started from Mid-October to Mid-March. 

So this is all we know 100%: Part 1 could have started anywhere from Mid March - May, 2013. Part 1 could have ended anywhere from March 17 - July 2, 2014. 

So what about people born within those dates? That would be Sakura (March 28), Choji (May 1), and Kankuro (May 15). That is why those 3 had 2 possible birth years. 

From here, I have no provable evidence, I’m just going off what is most likely. Starting with Sakura. It is most likely that she was born in 2001. The earliest date I found for Part 1 to end was March 17, which accounted for very little rest or travel between the Chunin Exams, Search for Tsunade arc, or Sasuke Retrieval Mission. It is most likely that, if I go in and count days, that date would get pushed back to after her birthday. In addition, Tenten was grouped in with the older class, despite being born in 2000. Sakura would be just a tad younger then her if she was born in 2000, and I imagine that would be noteworthy. This all points to her being born in 2001, but again, no real evidence. 

Next, would be Kankuro. You could argue that Kankuro would have to be born in 1999. Since Temari, his sister, was born in August of 1997, that would leave exactly nine months before May, Kankuro’s birthday. Having another baby that soon would be dangerous. However, I don’t know if Kishimoto really knows that much about pregnancy, so we can’t definitively state that he was born in 1998 (because that means that Naruto would have to wait until May 16 to leave the village, which I find somewhat unlikely). 

As for Choji I have no proof, as his birth year would rely on knowing Kankuro’s.

The first fanfiction i read was for The Lunar Chronicles when I was like 11?? and it was 100% on accident and it scarred me because it was a hardcore porn one with a period kink and i was like WHAT IS THIS??? OH MY GOD???? LMAOOOOO i didn’t pick it back up until i was 13-14 and really got into the Fairy Tail fandom. I still reread my favorites on ff.net cause i love them. 

As for writing, I wrote a horrible, terrible x-men fanfiction when I was twelve. (my friend still brings it up and REFUSES to delete it so it still gets comments and views, that shit HAUNTS ME ELE.) then tried again for Fairy Tail, posted like two chapters before taking it down cause i wasn’t really feeling it. 5. What are your fanfic pet peeves? Do they have a huge effect on whether or not you decide to read something?

Omniscient third person. I don’t like it. Like I can understand that it can be a little hard to stay in one person’s perspective but, in my opinion, if you can, it shows how disciplined you are as a writer. Plus, i just get so confused when I go from A’s thoughts to suddenly what B is thinking about A. 

When writers use ‘ ‘ instead of “ “. When writers put thoughts in ‘ ‘ instead of just italicizing them. It’s small things but like they just bother me sO MUCH. most of the time i can ignore it and try to enjoy but other times i just dip. 

9. Tag 3 fic writers you think are underrated/unknown in the fandom/fanfiction community.

@espoir-et-reves !!!!! THEIR SHISAKU FICS ARE SO SO SO SO SO GOOD. And they have a warring states one going on THAT I AM SO OBSESSED WITH. 

@writer168 idk if they’re really “underrated” but THEY HAVE SUCH GREAT FICS ON AO3. Like theres an AU with sakura, kiba, and shino that i reread constantly because it just. is. so. fucking. GOOD. and they posted a new one that i’m YELLING about. 

@eggtoasties okay they only have 2 in the naruto fandom (one shisaku which is still ongoing) BUT THEIR WRITING STYLE IS SO NICE?? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. I still go back and reread their shikasaku one cause UGH i can’t get enough. I love it.

Fandoms: Naruto, Soul Eater, The Old Guard, ATLA

Parings: KakaSaku/ShikaSaku/ShiSaku/MultiSaku, SoMa, Joe X Nicky, Zukka

Character: SAKURA. I will read anything with Sakura as the main character and her being a fuckin badass or becoming a badass. I love her.

17. How obsessively do you sit and stare at your fic after you’ve just posted and wait for feedback?

aha.. haha.. well. I check my email like three times an hour. its the first thing i check in the mornings too. I’m literally a whore for praise and literally eat up feedback like its going out of style. I also reread a lot of my stuff because i make so many mistakes and spelling errors, or the spacing is weird oR SOMETHING. plus, literally any and all comments make my day, i go back and reread them cause they just make me feel so tingly and warm like “wow. this person enjoyed the fic/my writing enough to tell me. thats HUGE!”

23. What’s your absolute favorite trope to write?

Angry, feral, bloodied, morally gray women. They aren’t bad guys, they’re probably the good guy, but that doesn’t mean they cant be fucking raging at the world with raw knuckles and blood on their teeth. I just love an angry woman who struggles with her emotions and just has so much inner conflict but that doesn’t take away from her character or badassery, it adds to it. 

24. What’s a trope that you’d like to never hear about as long as you live, let alone write?

The fake dating or miscommunication troupe. LIKE GUYS JUST TALK. AND TELL EACH OTHER OMFG. the entire like obliviousness of “nah they dont like me” while the They holds their hand and kisses their cheek. MOFO WHAT. it makes me so impatient and like mad HAAHHAHA. its probably because i’m a pretty confrontational person so seeing stuff like that just “cmon bro, USE YO HEAD.”

28. How do you deal with writing pressure (ie: pressure to update, negative comments, deadlines, etc)?

I have yet to receive a negative comment! Which i was really surprised about tbh. As for deadlines or pressure to update, i just kind of do whatever. I do set goals, but i set them flexible enough that hey, if i can’t do it, that’s okay. 

I have a lot of mini goals, like “i want to write this chapter and get it done this week” and then the large goal is “FINISH BY END OF MAY” so i have time. 

Actually, now that I think on it, the entire pressure to update thing is probably why i’m waiting until I have all of OL&W written to post it weekly,, cause well. I wouldn’t wanna leave you guys waiting as I tried to write and work out the next chapters and stuff, you know?

30. Post a snippet from your current WIP without context - no more than 300 words.

34. How much of yourself and your life experiences do you put into your writing? What do you think your readers’ image of you is?

None of my experiences match up to anything I write tbh,,, probably the only thing that is me in my writing is maybe the emotional turmoil? I’m pretty emotionally and mentally mature because from a pretty young age i started forming my own opinions, started looking into the world around us and being like “dude what the fuck this is not what disney advertised”. Then i started talking (read: arguing and debating) with my dad about a lot of it. So, like emotions are kind of hard for me. Like i’m pretty good at controlling them or understanding them, but still. idk its hard to explain ig.

Like the weight of stress, the anger, the sadness. It’s kind of therapeutic to write. Cause i don’t know how to put those feelings to verbal words so writing them really helps. 

As for my readers’ image? Probably like some kind of hunched over figure typing away in the dark with a maniacal grin on their face. I honestly don’t know AHHAHAHA but it is fun to think about. I think they’d see me as someone with potential but a lot of room to grow and someone who is imperfect but in a charming way LMAOOOO

38. What does your writing process look like? How chaotic is it on a scale of 1 (very tame) to 10 (you can’t handle this kind of chaos)?

I’m gonna be real honest. Its probably like a 2. I’m a bit of a control freak so I almost always go in chronological order, my writing is pretty linear. Unless, i get bored and jump to one of my fav parts. It's pretty much i sit down, i open the doc, read over my notes and just start writing. 

It’s a little boring to explain AHAHAHA but once i get into the groove of things its really fucking great, I can like feel myself in the world, I can feel what i want the characters to, i love it. I catch myself mouthing the words as i type too, which i find hilarious.

39. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?

I rather like how raw my writing is sometimes. Which might sound really vain, but i do like the way i word things or describe things. I love juxtaposition and repetition, or making a good ole circle back to some minute detail that wouldn’t stand out until i repeat it at the end and you’re like “omg” AHAHAHAHA.

Like those little poetic snippets or certain wording i just sit back and go “damn thats kinda good nadia! go you!’ HAHAHA  

40. How did you come up with the idea for The Intimacy Of Being Understood?

AAAAA this fic is like my first child, my pride and joy LMAO

so the idea initially came when i was reading some fic, idk if it was even naruto, but i was like “i don't like this, but i do like the rain symbolism.” And I knew i wanted to write something kind of slow paced, something a little sad and angsty, but would show KakaSaku slowly but surely falling in love.

Idk if you’ve noticed but a lot of my fics, the pairings don’t change each other dramatically. They accept each other as they are and then they grow with together. Like that acceptance is something i just love writing, its so subtle, it isn’t something you declare. Its simply “I am going to love you. I am going to love you despite your flaws and faults. I am going to love you unconditionally because I know you, I understand you, and there is nothing you could do to drive me away.” 

The fic kind of wrote itself after that first scene. I kept going back to the rain, go being ghosts, and resurrection, and the small epiphanies one gets. I wanted to focus on each character’s growth with each other. They didn’t find light in life because of each other, but with each other. And i think that’s my favorite thing about that fic. 

I wanted something raw and real and just something beautiful. I’m actually really proud of it tbh. Would i go back and rewrite/edit it? Oh of course! I’d do that with every single one of my fics, but i’m not gonna cause i think its in its rawest form right now. :))))

started reading and writing at about the same time i’d say? so around 11/12 i think. v young. i was super into Life With Derek pls do not talk to me about this it is so upsetting to think about

mmmm i think i write my fics to explore things that i have yet to read about? that was the idea with Swapped in any case. i was like hmmmm no sexy body swap kksk fic??? strange i must rectify. otherwise A Lesson In Chemistry is v inspirational! i love my bantering, oblivious ninja babes, and also Will of Fire bc i could not believe that this was a FANFICTION that someone wrote for FREE unbelievable.

yes and yes. i yam v obsessive and i love To See What I’m Writing so depending on what it is im writing, i can get really carried away. esp with setting. hours n hours looking at images, reading articles about geography, climate, vegetation, weather patterns, etc.

“Please don’t call me that,” he complained. Shikamaru smiled tightly at him.

“Very well, Hokage-sama. The daimyo is requesting you join him for a sherry and a chat about affairs with Iwa.” Kakashi fixed him with a mild glare but sighed in resignation. He was, above all else, Hokage. What was a pleasant banquet for everyone else was, unfortunately, a series of regrettable business meetings for him.

“Who drinks sherry?” Kakashi grumbled unhappily, walking painstakingly slow just to get under Shikamaru’s skin.

“The daimyo of Fire,” he responded, remaining aggravatingly calm and mature in the face of Kakashi’s petulance.

“I should have made Sakura my assistant,” he said with a sidelong glance. Kakashi was certain he’d have been able to get under her skin in no time at all. Shikamaru remained habitually unbothered.

“Why, so you could ogle her all day long?” he asked wearily. “Eh, Kakashi-sama, you already get so little paperwork done. Imagine if you had another distraction walking around.”

Naruto Shippuden, ep 427-450

So this is... 23 episodes of filler about a random bunch of AUs. They are theoretically framed as people’s Tsukuyomi dreams, but this framing doesn’t necessarily make sense. 

Tenzou’s dream is to be acknowledged as a good kouhai and the best suited leader for Team 7. It also includes Kakashi needing to be rescued. It’s kind of cute that he has Sasuke return at random because that’s what Naruto and Sakura would want. 

Tenten’s is a two episode reference to Road to Ninja. I guess you could read it as her wanting to be the special one who gets to save the day with her unique skills. 

Karin’s is... it’s presented like a backstory flashback, but it ends with her apparently dying from Kusa ninja coming to take revenge on her? Are we supposed to interpret this as her being unable to imagine a happy life or her wanting to die? There is also a lot that doesn’t really make sense in terms of timeline, so I am deeply skeptical of all of it. 

B’s is fairly straightforward -- he wants to go and have adventures with the other jinchuuriki and also their bijuu (who have very cute small versions lol). It’s probably the best of the bunch. 

And then there’s Tsunade’s... 

In general, Tsunade’s dream (”Jiraiya Ninja Scrolls: The Tale of Naruto the Hero”) is very nearly the worst filler I’ve seen. Generally, if a filler is stupid, it can at least be funny, and if it’s serious, you can suss out some bit of canon. But this? Total waste of time, for like 16 episodes. 

It’s framed as Tsunade reading a novel that Jiraiya wrote, alone aside from Shizune dropping by. The novel is... a speedrun of Naruto’s entire plot, but with details changed: Minato sealed half the Kyuubi in Kushina and both of them survived to raise Naruto, Obito doesn’t seem to exist, etc. Most major plot points of the series are recycled, along with many key scenes, except the framing and sometimes the general circumstances are different. Honestly, it’s like reading a fairly bland fanfic. 

Then at the end, it switches to a world where Dan is alive and Hokage. 

I would honestly dismiss pretty much the entire batch of fillers, but I guess you could say that they show that people don’t always know what their ideal world even is, so when they get pulled into Infinite Tsukuyomi, they take some time to work through the possibilities. You can see it in the most simple sense in Tenzou’s. Does he want to go back to his childhood, with the girl who gave him that name? Does he want to go back to his Anbu days under Kakashi? 

In the end, he seems to decide that he doesn’t want to dismiss the connections he gained as an adult, which is why he settles on “being entrusted with Team 7 after proving himself.” 

Tsunade’s can be seen as similar in that sense. She doesn’t immediately want her current life, with Naruto and Shizune, to disappear. So it has to get reinterpreted as an increasingly distant dream. 

Regarding Tsunade’s specifically (just complaints): 

Does someone on the anime team have an issue about dogs drowning? I think Inari’s flashback about his dog almost drowning was anime only too. 

Plus, this dog’s name is Shiro and I think the breed is also the same as in Asura and Indra’s flashback? 

Minato is alive here, as well as Kushina. I’m... not clear what happened at Naruto’s birth, since I think it’s never stated that there was an attack. Maybe the Kyuubi just couldn’t be controlled, but since the situation was less dire without a 3rd party, they could use this method instead. 

Minato is able to prevent the Uchiha coup, but tensions remain, leading to a lot of the... supposed plot of this AU. The clan forced him to accept some demands in exchange for not going through with the coup. Amusingly, Itachi seems to be quite supportive of his clan, though he’s among those that believe in a peaceful solution. The remaining tensions come from opposition from the advisors and other clans. 

The Uchiha police get a long term assignment with the daimyo. Not sure why the police go though, this doesn’t really seem intuitive. 

The filler is desperate to show Minato as being amazing, but it also wants to still have the Hyuuga affair, so the Sandaime is inexplicably presiding over that mess, even though it should be Minato’s job. 

Kakashi and Sasuke wear their shoes indoors... 

Sasuke wears a truly ugly pastel blue body suit... On the other hand, his casual outfit while running off to Orochimaru is nice. 

Anko, Hayate, Yugao and Yamato are in Root for some reason. 

Neji’s Byakugan can’t tell a clone from the real thing... I don’t remember if this is canon. 

Pain’s “you won’t understand without experiencing the same pain” sounds like what Hagoromo says in the Indra flashback later. Hagoromo is full of shit. 

Obito isn’t around, so Sasori is explicably the main villain. Yahiko is still alive at the start, the Kyuubi attack isn’t confirmed iirc... Sasuke and Naruto’s fight also happens at a different location, not Valley of the End, so I wonder if the idea is that Madara never did his entire thing. I think he was mentioned early in at one point, but I can’t remember what they said about him. 

Since his family was never killed, Sasuke’s issues are all about Naruto. He originally looked down on Naruto for being a loser, but then Naruto acted cool one time when they were kids, and Minato was able to prevent the coup, so Sasuke thought they could really be rivals. But Naruto kept being a loser until he... suddenly became so good Sasuke didn’t feel like he could keep up? It’s very odd.

lmao uh, so star wars huh. I did technically start watching the mandalorian in nov 2019, but i only got two episodes in and then i never finished b/c of exams. I read @damerondjarin‘s fic, show me the stars (TUMBLR WON’T LET ME LINK TO IT, I’M SO ANNOYED) in march 2020(?), after i had finished a long day of outlining for criminal law. i had never had the slightest interest in star wars. but  the gif and summary caught my attention so i read it. and i was hooked. after that, i fell into a rabbit hole and i have not found myself out of it.

this is really embarrassing. Oof, it was when i was 13? i think? it was uh a kakashi x reader fic. i did not finish. it was so bad. i also still have it. unfortunate. 

22. Is there anything you regret writing?

on this blog? no. in general? no. b/c everything i’ve written had gotten me to this point, and i don’t ever plan on stopping.

oh god, i’m a really bad judge of what i’ve written. I guess Ceasefire, my one and only javier fic, comes to mind mostly b/c i like the jealousy trope and i’m proud of how i pulled it off (also how easily it came to me). can i say a WIP hahaha. i’m really proud of this obi fic i’m working on that takes place at the end of ROTS, and i’m so excited to share it.

oh god i’m not reading any currently - i’ve been really busy with family stuff and now preparing for classes next week, but i’ll link a few i’ve enjoyed recently: 

berry hill (Aaron hotchner x reader) by @winterscaptain: this is part of ‘A Joyful Future’ series which i love - this fic has everything - yearning, bedsharing, fake dating, i love it. and i love how tali crafts such an intricate and loving relationship b/t hotch and reader. I love it so dearly. also reader’s inner dialogue is just A++++. 

Marching far away (Din Djarin x reader) by @writefightandflightclub: this fic broke my heart into pieces. Luna does an amazing job at tearing apart my feelings, but still leaving you with a sense of hope for din. She does such an amazing job at capturing such a complex character in such a terrible situation.

ive right back into you (obi-wan x reader) by @milleniumvalcon: ok this fic had me both laughing and also completely enthralled in obi and reader’s relationship. Val has a really unique voice that both is elegant and colloquial that just pulls you in. just the push and pull of a love/hate relationship is so hard to get right and in this fic it’s done perfectly. 

Curriculum Vitae (Javier Pena x reader) by @tiffdawg: ok i’ve admittedly fallen behind on this series b/c i’ve just been so busy. but god, Tiffany does such an amazing job at crafting Javi and reader’s relationship. It just pulled me from the very start, set in the backdrop of academia, which somehow perfectly suits Javier (who knew?). Every chapter makes you want to read more about these two. I cannot wait to catch up.

1.) Becoming a Movie in 2019: Umbrella Academy (vol 1) by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba

4/5. A fascinating take on superpowers, dysfunctional families, and the apocalypse. Can get pretty gory, confusing here and there and you have to pay close attention to panels for lore, but overall an entertaining romp.

2.) Makes you Feel Nostalgic: Circles in the Stream by Rachel Roberts

4/5. Middle grade novel about the magic of music, belief, and of course, friendship. Definitely written for kids, and has some unfortunately clumsy Native rep, but overall an absolute joy to dive into once again.

3.) Written by a Musician: Umbrella Academy (vol 2) by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba

4/5. Ramps up the confusion to ridiculous degrees with some absolutely bonkers, unexplained arcs, but still fun to watch this dysfunctional family do its dysfunctional thing.

4.) You Think Should be Turned into a movie: All That Glitters by Rachel Roberts

4/5. Continuation of Circles in the Stream, but with more unicorns, more rainbows, and more fae, which makes it automatically even better than the first.

1/5. I understand why it's important and all but wasn't prepared for some of the more graphic scenes and the overall hopelessness of the message.  Would not recommend or read again.

5/5. A fantasy world where everyone is always happy, save for one girl and the princess, who set out to solve the mystery of their kingdom. Poignant and great for kids and adults.

4/5. Yet another installment in the Avalon: Web of Magic series, which clearly I am obsessed with.  Please just read them.

5/5. A welcome kick in the pants, chock full of great advice told without condescension, and full of hope and inspiration for writers both new and old.

9.) Meant to read in 2018: The Poet x by Elizabeth Acevedo  

4/5. Absolutely beautiful coming of age novel told in verse.  Do yourself a favor and listen to the audiobook version.

2/5. I think maybe I just don't understand this genre.  Or maybe the translation was weird. I was confused.

4/5. It had a lot more slurs/homophobia than I was prepared for, but otherwise is a very touching, relatable collection of queer characters living in a heteronormative world.

3/5. A girl goes on an impossible quest to save her brother from a child-eating witch. Really wanted to like it more because I loved the first one, Monstrous, but it dragged a little.

13.) Published Posthumously: The Islands of Chaldea by Diana Wynne Jones

3/5. I adore Diana Wynne Jones, but this one was missing some of the magic of her other books. Not sure if it was because it had to be finished by someone else, or if I just grew out of her stories.

14.) Set in Space: Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

4/5. Powerfully written story of a girl straddling tradition and innovation, who wields power through mathematical magic, surviving on a spaceship alone with a dangerous alien occupation after everyone else has been killed.

15.) By 2 Female Authors: Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian

2/5. Ostensibly a story about a revenge pact in a small island town, but leaves far too many dangling threads to attempt alluring you to the sequel.

16.) W/ A Title containing "salty," "bitter," "Sweet," or "Spicy": The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith  

3/5. It's okay but I literally just never know what anyone means at any time. Are they being reticent on purpose or do i just not understand communication

17.) Set in scandinavia: Vinland Saga by Makoto Yukimura

2/5. Technically and historically accurate and well made, but the story itself is not my cup of tea.  Very gory.

18.) Takes Place in a Single Day: Long WAy Down by Jason Reynolds

4/5. A boy goes to avenge his murdered brother, but ghostly passengers join him on the elevator ride down. Stunning and powerful character-driven analysis.

19.) Debut Novel: Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

4/5. Charming and then surprisingly heart-breaking comic about Nimona, a shapeshifter who wants to become a villain's minion. Really love the villain/hero dynamic going on in the background, along with the dysfunctional found family.

20.) Published in 2019: The Book of Pride by Mason Funk  

4/5. A collection of interviews with the movers, shakers, and pioneers of the queer and LGBTQ+ community.  An absolutely essential work for community members and allies alike.

21.) Featuring an extinct/imaginary creature: Phoebe and her Unicorn by Dana Simpson

4/5. Incredibly charming, Calvin and Hobbes-esque collection of comics featuring the adventures of Phoebe and her unicorn best friend.

22.) Recced by a celebrity you admire: The Emerald Circus by Jane Yolen

2/5. Recced by my fave author Brandon Sanderson. An unfortunately disappointing anthology proving that any story can be made uninteresting by telling the wrong section of it.

23.) With "Love" in the Title: Book Love by Debbie Tung

4/5. One of those relatable webcomics, only this one I felt super hard almost the entire time.  Books are awesome and libraries rule.

24.) Featuring an amateur detective: Nancy Drew: Palace of Wisdom by Kelly Thompson

4/5. REALLY love this modern take on Nancy Drew, coming back home to her roots to solve a brand new mystery. Diverse cast and lovely artwork, though definitely more adult.

25.) About a family: Amulet by Kabu Kibuishi

4/5. Excellent, top tier graphic novel about a sister and brother who have to go rescue their mother with a mysterious magic stone. LOVE that the mom gets to be involved in the adventure for once.

26.) by an author from asia, Africa, or s. America: Girls' Last tour by Tsukumizu

4/5. Somehow both light-hearted and melancholy. Two girls travel about an empty, post-apocalyptic world, and muse about life and their next meal.

27.) w/ a Zodiac or astrology term in title: Drawing down the moon by margot adler

3/5. A good starting place for anyone interested in the Neo Pagan movement, but didn't really give me what I was personally looking for.

4/5. I don't watch TV or movies where people read books so i think reading an adaptation of a TV series after watching the series counts. Anyway it was good but beware racist caricatures

29.) A retelling of a classic: Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy by Rey Terciero

5/5. We can stop the Little Women reboots and retellings now, this is the only one we need. In fact, we can toss out the original too, this is the only one necessary.

4/5. Cute art despite the subject matter, and a surprisingly enthralling take on the isekai genre. Love the doubling down on the video game skills.

31.) Set in a college or university campus: Moonstruck (vol 2) by Grace Ellis

2/5. An incredibly cute, beautiful, and fascinating world of modern magic and creatures, but unfortunately falls apart at the plot and pacing.

32.) About someone with a superpower: Moonstruck (vol 1) by Grace Ellis

4/5. Though nearly as messy plot-wise as its sequel, the first volume is overwhelmingly charming in a way that overpowers the more confusing plot elements.

4/5. Told almost in a serial format, like watching a miniseries, a group of found-family spaceship crew members make the long journey to their biggest job ever.

4/5. Timely and poignant, a girl tumbles into both love and resistance after becoming one of two wives to one of the most powerful men in the country.

3/5. Much deeper than I can currently comprehend.  Beautifully written, but difficult to parse.

36.) A ghost story: Her body and other parties by Carmen Maria Machado

4/5.  It counts because one of the stories in it has ghosts. A sometimes difficult collection of surrealist, feminist, queer short stories.

37.) W/ a 2 word title: Good omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

4/5. Charming, touching, and comical, probably the best take on the apocalypse to date. Also excellent ruminations on religion and purpose.

4/5. Brilliantly crafted graphic biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and his assistance in fighting back against Nazi Germany.

39.) Revolving around a puzzle or game: the Crossover by Kwame alexander

4/5. The verse didn't always hit right with me, but the story is a sweet, melancholy one about family, loss, and moving on.

5/5. Absolutely one of my all-time favorite books, it manages to perfectly combine anachronism and comedy with lyricism, melancholy, and ethereal beauty.

3/5. Cute art, but precious little substance.  The concept simply wasn't for me in the first place.

5/5. An absolute insta-fave! Charming art, endearing characters, an incredible premise, and so much sweet wholesome fluff it'll give you cavities.

3/5. It started out super strong, but the joke started to wear thin at a little past the halfway point.

4/5. A brave and enduring personal story of growing up in and eventually leaving the Westboro Baptist Church. Really called to me to act with grace and kindness even more in the future.

Could you do a Naruto fanfiction recommendation? I loved your Sakura one but I was curious if you would do one in general for the series?

1.) serendipity by stirringwinds. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Sasuke had never known Senju Hashirama in person, of course. But he had grown up hearing stories about the First Hokage at his mother’s knee—about the legend who had defeated the most powerful member of their own clan. Enough stories to recognise what he was seeing—and to know he was witnessing his teammate perform the impossible. Or, in the fight against Gaara during Suna’s attempted invasion of Konoha, the Ichibi’s attempt to kill Sakura awakens an unexpected power. It changes the destiny of Team Seven forever.

Yes, this is about Mokuton!Sakura but this is in Sasuke’s pov and, oh boy, is it so interesting in his point of view. There’s not only world building but nods to real life history that makes in the (casual) history nerd in me get really excited. So far we’ve only seen Uchiha clan politics that Sasuke remembers from when his family arrived but if this is ever continued the current politics is one of the main things  I look forward too.

2.) These Moments We Take for Granted by Applepie. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Kakashi dies to Pain’s attack and wakes up in another world. It’s a world where Kakashi hadn’t failed Obito’s final wish and sacrificed himself for Rin’s sake instead. It’s a Konoha too similar, yet so different that Kakashi can’t bear to impose. So he doesn’t – not as ‘Kakashi’, at least.

I’m dying for the next chapter of this. The cliff hanger is partially why the other reason is the story is just that good. 

3.) Yes, my weird depressed half-tree uncle by Aesoleucian. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Sarada is such a lonely kid, and Sakura has such a dissociative disorder. Where are Sakura's parents? Where is the support? Being a single mom is hard and therefore I crafted this AU where Obito survives the war and retires to help restore his clan which he helped murder. 

A good way to get me to love any fic: let characters who go through traumatic situations actually show they’re not okay afterwards. 

4.) your skeleton will carry by theformerone. On ao3. Rated E. Summary: He doesn't want to have children for the clan that murdered his father, or for the village that let it happen.

Neji and Sasuke discover that they are more alike than they think.

I’m so glad the author tagged this Anti Sandaime. That tag is the reason why I found this beautiful fic. 

5.) Just the Usual Habits by Applepie. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Sakumo has no idea where all of these habits of Kakashi's are coming from. In which five-year-old Kakashi forgets the existence of his left eye, loses his ability to lie believably, and is a little too knowledgeable about the Birds and Bees. Still, no matter what oddities went on in Kakashi's head, one thing is certain – the boy will always love his father, through thick and thin.

6.) Get Shisui by DoodlesOfTheMind. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Get Shisui. It was a common refrain throughout the Uchiha compound, though its meaning had shifted a number of times over the years.

Both beautiful and heartbreaking. 

7.) a beating heart of stone by FantasyDeath. On ao3. Rated Not Rated. Summary: During Iruka's first year teaching — on his own, because apparently there is a severe lack of teachers — he loses his curriculum, gets into a low-key fight with Shimura Danzo and accidentally creates an army. To be fair, none of this was planned.

8.) In Sound Judgement by NegativeAperture. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: The main question, she thinks, isn’t her chance at survival or whether she’ll stick to the plot. No, it’s whether she should change the inherently flawed system that has caused every single problem ever. Arguably, she’s in the best position to fix it. People are certainly more willing to listen to you when you threaten them with the giant fox demon in your gut. But what would the cost be? Her morals? Her humanity?

The road to hell is paved with good intentions after all. (In which a human rights lawyer is reincarnated into a world without morality, without logic, and most of all, without laws. Helping the world was easier when people weren’t ninjas.)

Even if self inserts or ocs are not your thing I still strongly suggest you read this.

9.) Mirage by xantissa. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Can be read as stand alone. Itachi's ANBU exam through Kakashi's eyes. Kakashi knew something wasn't right with the whole thing, he just couldn't put his finger on what exactly.

10.) Catch Me (If You Can) by BasicallyAnIdiot. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Five times the ANBU tried to catch Uzumaki Naruto (and that one time someone else did).

Why you should read this: “Knowing Naruto-kun,” Itachi interrupted from his locker as he checked his arm bracers, “If he had more than a hour, the traps were at least 2 layers deep.” He closed the locker door firmly, mask in hand, “But he can be caught.”

“Lies and hearsay.” Neko’s muffled offer came from the women’s shower area. 

“Impossible. Never happened.”

A delicate brow arched, and Itachi continued. “There is one person in the village who can successfully catch Uzumaki Naruto whenever he feels inclined to.”

Inu sat up like a shot, unheeding the bag of ice dropping to his lap with a thud. 

“Who? Is it the Commander? Hokage-sama?”

Shisui snorted, and transitioned smoothly to a new pose, “He means the only chunin in the history of chunin to turn down a full position in ANBU corps, complete with no probation and instant pay raise.”

Inu was silent for a moment. Then he declared, “I will find this chunin and make him my teacher.”

11.) Fish Stew by Masu_Trout. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: There was a bowl of stew in Kisame's lap, a cup of tea on the ground next to him, and a small blank-eyed teenager staring at him from over the rim of his own teacup.

Kisame's new partner is one of the strangest people he's ever met, and that's coming from a man with gills on his face.

12.) What A Big Heart You Have by LullabyKnell. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: In which a little red fox saves the big white wolf.

"Sensei has friends?" Naruto asks, squinting at Obito.

"Or he's a stalker." Sasuke grips the kunai he still hasn't put away.

"I'm not a stalker," Obito lies, pushing away the kunai edging towards him.

15.) The Good Life by orphan_account. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: There had to be protocol for this. They were shinobi in a hidden village; there was protocol for everything. Sadly, the authors of the Konoha Mission Administration Office Employee Handbook had committed the potentially fatal oversight of not dedicating a single paragraph to the now more than hypothetical situation of your current Hokage starting a mostly one-sided screaming match with your former Hokage in front of your very desk.

Out of all the Sakura centric fics I’ve read - trust me I have read a lot - this is till one of my favorites.

17.) got a boy in the war by Lisse. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Naruto's parents don't so much fall in love as accidentally trip over it.

Summary: “Itachi,” His mentor and commanding officer says grimly, his single visible eye angry, the line of his jaw tense under the black of his mask. “You forget that I was the Yondaime’s student. I may not be as politically influential as those old codgers sitting on the council, but there is plenty I can do to try and stop this shitshow.”

The horrible, cold feeling in the pit of his stomach hasn't vanished. But, staring at the firm, unflinching expression on his captain’s face, he feels the tiniest flicker of…hope.

Or: In another universe, Itachi breaks down and ends up spilling the beans to Hatake Kakashi.

Honestly, damn it why couldn’t this have happened? 

20.) Nothing like the storm by Aesoleucian. On ao3. Rated Not Rated. Summary: There's a girl in Kushina's class at the academy, with perfect hair and perfect poise. She's nothing like loud, angry Kushina, but she's not exactly shy either.

21.) Shine Bright, Shine Far, (Oh Sun of Mine) by Applepie. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: This Konoha is not the one Himawari knows; everything is wrong, and everyone is gone. A strange man who's not Papa is claiming to be the Hokage.

22.) i have a girlfriend!? by chadsuke. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: ino wants training from the best genin kunoichi - naturally, that means tracking down tenten.

23.) Eyestealer by nirejseki, robininthelabyrinth (nirejseki). On ao3. Rated Summary: Hashirama really doesn't approve of the thoughtful way his father looks at his younger brother's bright red eyes. He's sure it doesn't mean anything good for anyone.

He's right.

I just binge read this today (I haven’t even bookmarked it yet) and now I’m left wanting for more darker than canon Hashirama.

24.) Unison by Laylah. On ao3. Rated M. Summary: Kakashi knows damn well that it isn't a healthy coping mechanism.

Do read the warnings at the top of the author’s notes. 

25.) Got Nothing to Prove (but I'ma show you how I do) by GuardianMars. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Civilians and orphans are always used as cannon fodder. Sakura’s not sure where she first came by this phrase. Whether she heard it or read it, she can’t quite remember, but it stuck in her head and it stays in the back of her mind whenever Team 7 takes a mission.

When Sakura and Tenten get placed on a temporary team looking into a series of kidnappings of local village girls, Sakura is naturally worried. She doesn't want to be cannon fodder. When the mission goes to pot, Sakura and Tenten find themselves far away from home and with only each other to rely on. As it turns out being cannon fodder is the least of their worries.

26.) Once Again by pupeez4eva. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: If you asked anyone what they thought of Sasuke Uchiha, they'd say that he was cheerful, overly-hyper, and loved glitter and sweaters WAY too much.

(Mabel Pines is reborn as Sasuke Uchiha. Unsurprisingly, this changes things a lot).

27.) Blame it on the Moon by Tozette. On ao3 (you can only see this if you have logged-in ). Rated G. Summary: Itachi likes cats. In hindsight, that's probably his first mistake.

Really? Thought Itachi dubiously. He did it anyway. "For love and justice," he deadpanned flatly.
