Truly I think I can count on a single hand the number of sorikus I’ve encountered that actually “hate Kairi because she gets in the way of the ship”. It’s an extremely uncharitable accusation that gets slung around at every soriku that doesn’t just absolutely love her though. I mean I understand wanting people to like the character you like, because maybe they have traits you relate to- so that when people dislike or just don’t care about them it can feel personal. But especially for a character who is almost universally agreed to have been written disappointingly, no one is obligated to love or enjoy them (and I think even if Kairi’s lack of development was intentional the execution has never been very good- that is a problem with writing).

Headcanon that Kairi desperately writes letter after letter, sending them into the ocean each day in hopes that one will reach Sora on the other side. They eventually pile up in a cove in Atlantica, maybe one or two make their way to the Realm of Darkness. Kairi encourages Riku to pen his thoughts as well, and all of them are begging for Sora to come home. He never sends them.

As someone who likes Soriku, I also like Kairi. I hate how there are unfortunately some people that give everyone who likes Soriku a bad name by hating Kairi and just making her awful in non canon things.

It's quite sad.

The narrative also doesn't really do her justice either and it's such a shame. She could be really interesting. I have stated in the past, let her still have nice friendships with Sora and Riku along with various other characters. Let her have emotions about being left behind and change. Let her get frustrated that she feels that she cannot get strong enough. Let her find out what happened in her past to end up at the Destiny Islands.

I don't want her overpowered. There are some fans who show her a someone who is overpowered and can do anything and it feels like a weak characterization.

Let Kairi feel frustrated that she constantly becomes something to motivate others such as her kidnapping in kh2 and her heart getting destroyed in kh3. It would be so much more interesting if Kairi expressed that she hates how she became a liability. And I'm not saying she is, but she feels that way since she had to be saved.

Not enough people focus on that.

Let her show her feelings or emotions.

It's only reason I sometimes dislike aspects of the people who ship the opposing ship. It's not because it's opposing, but because they reduce Kairi to just that. People show her as having no character other than being a character's partner. It's the similar reason why I dislike the part in MOM where she has to turn to Sora to fight Xehanort.

Why couldn't she do it herself?

In all honesty, I'm fine with the pairing and Soriku is just really special to me.

you know what’s a pretty cool moment of growth for kairi that i haven’t actually thought about until now? the fact that kairi went from “sora let’s take the raft, just the two of us!” in kh1 to literally running and physically stopping riku from leaving when he tried to in kh2.

i believe that riku and kairi were jealous of each other and worried about sora leaving them for the other. they never had the chance to resolve that between kh1 and kh2 with everything that happened, so it would’ve made sense for them to feel the same way. or at least for kairi to since she had forgotten about sora and probably hadn’t processed those feelings with him gone. so it would make sense for those feelings to resurface once she was able to remember him again. riku, on the other hand, had convinced himself he couldn’t even face sora anymore so it makes sense for him to have let go of those feelings for the most part.

riku was walking away, letting kairi and sora be together. it could be like kairi wanted on the pier that day, just the two of them with riku out of the picture. he was holding that reality out to her on a silver platter and she could’ve taken it. but she didn’t. in fact, she physically grabbed him to make sure he didn’t leave and that kept him from isolating himself again. if kairi wasn’t there, riku would’ve left and maybe we would’ve never seen him again. a far cry from her attitude in kh1.

she matured and i think it was shown in a good and significant way. i wish kairi had more moments where she develops as a character that aren’t inherently tied to sora and riku and she was allowed to grow more as a character, but i like this moment a lot

oh I just remembered. One minor detail I find interesting in KH1 is how everyone native to DI is yellow as fuck. Only Kairi, the foreigner, isn't, though even she has the yellow armlet as this has become her home.

The likelihood of Hanto and Sachika coming up with excuses or outright telling Shouma to stay with them is much higher than Shouma picking up the kanji for "friend" (友達), using it in a letter he left on the table and we (along with Sachika and Hanto) expect he ran off again, only for him to sheepishly reveal he didn't and quietly stuck around because he wanted to ask the people he considers his friends in-person if it's okay for him to stay, but I like to imagine things that'll send my heart and soul into a crisis

think people should draw more dramatic art of kairi with the damn master xehanort 'some pronounce it kye'' thing especially since like.

"Death... A letter that spells endings." when kairi's game chronologically is the last game in the 'dark seeker saga'. in the world of kingdom hearts her name is literally x-ri basically, and she capstones the series with her presence.

People always say Sora gets dumber as the games go on, but Riku was dumb on day 1. He destroyed Destiny Islands by having a gay panic because he thought Sora loved Kairi more than him.
