I have just finished watching this film and even though it's the 27th that ive watched it has skipped the line to be talked about immediately, i was actually choking at how much i was laughing at this my sister said shes never seen me so happy or have this much fun. Straight from the beginning we get some of the funniest hard cuts in cinema immediately into some wacky antics with our child protagonist (pretty normal for gamera films) we have two comedic relief construction workers whos faces are so expressive with every reaction. There are so many small funny moments i actually cannot stop and talk about each and every one of them, one of the main plotpoints to try and stop gyaos is to create a big spinning disc to stun him by making him too dizzy and to lure him in they use A FOUNTAIN OF FAKE BLOOD THAT THEY JUST SYNTHESIZED IN A DAY?!? THAT APPARENTLY TASTES AND SMELLS THE SAME AS REAL HUMAN BLOOD???? WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW THEY TESTED THAT BUT ITS CONCERNING.This film is such a wacky ride although there is a weird amount of fake blood (its all obviously fake so no worries for haemophobes) but oh my god please do yourselves a favour and please just go and watch it. I literally cannot do this film the justice it deserves you have to see this to believe any of it.

Had Thranto Pacific Rim AU/fusion ideas bouncing around in my brain lmao.

Sky-walker navigators, having minds that are safe from the two way street that is drifting, being trained to drift with kaiju to predict when another attack is coming, without ending up possessed like in PR2. This trait only lasting through childhood and eventually navigators start to experience feedback and are retired from duty. (Aka fading of second sight)

Kaiju attacks happening all over the galaxy. The Republic/Empire also dealing with it but in a slightly different fashion than the Ascendancy. During the Republic Era, only jedi masters and clones piloting Jaegers. Also falling to the dark side ties in with jedi going rogue and drifting with kaiju and not being able to block the link between them and the monsters. (The existence of kaijus basically disrupt what would be the timeline of the Clone Wars….maybe still thinking on that one) During the Imperial Era, the Imperial navy handling the kaiju and the ISB using older methods of predicting attacks (like how they were in the beginning of the movie)

Thrawn meeting Anakin during “the clone wars” era per usual, and learning about how the rest of the galaxy is dealing with the kaiju.

Thrass would have been Thrawn’s old drift partner but got killed. (While still connected) And Thrawn having to solo pilot their Jaeger back to Ascendancy. (Solo piloting and solo pilotable jaegers being reserved for only Admirals in the Ascendancy and in the Empire too) Thrawn being exiled due to saving the Ascendancy from a level 5 kaiju threat but also costing them a lot of Jaegers in the process and also Thrass dying (the more liked of the two in the Syndicate’s eyes) And also the usual Thurfian being like get this bitch out of here.

Thrawn going to the Empire to secure more allies and resources for the Ascendancy as he realizes that level 5 threats are going to start increasing. Palps being like mmm well first u gotta do shit for me per usual.

Per canon, Thrawn making sure he gets paired with Eli, who just wanted to help run numbers to help with the prediction of attacks, far away from danger. Eli and Thrawn’s neural link being incredibly strong from their first test dive. Them becoming the best of the best pilots albeit of course per canon, not in the most orthodox fashion. And also of course their Jaeger being the only one piloted by an alien in the Empire.

Eli still being in that “i don’t know if I trust Thrawn” space until one day they are doing daily drift simulations….on Vurika’s(Borika’s) star-day. And Thrawn who normally gives no feedback in the drift ends up chasing the rabbit and Eli gets a bit of his and Vurika’s childhood. Eli starting to see his partner as person as opposed to this unknowable, unflinchable monolith.

I have more ideas but this is getting long! May or may not write a fic.

Really interesting that while the SSSP pretty uniformly referred to Muramatsu as 'Cap,' the Ultra Guard all call Captain Kiriyama 'Heichou,' which gives more of a militaristic feel and makes him feel like a commanding officer and not just the appointed leader. It's a simple choice of wording but it says a lot about the relationships between the characters.
