After a hearty breakfast and being stuffed silly with supplies from Sigrid and saying our goodbyes, we all trekked down towards Markarth via the carriage in Whiterun— after letting Bren know where we’d be. He was against the idea— as if any of us had really any doubt, he hated me going anywhere far away from him— but gave us his well wishes. (Me. Gave me his well wishes. Cursed everyone else out.) (Old fart.)

i feel like there should be more of an exploration into kaidan's time in the blooded dawn. the extended edition does kinda explore it, but it's the extended edition (derogatory). he's incredibly traumatized, and i don't think a lot of people explore that side of him.

i'm also very into cults, so that might have something to do with my increased interest in this.

also, how would he react to a DB that was previously in a daedric cult/pledged themselves to a daedric prince? i have several DBs that are attached to a daedric prince in some way, and it's interesting to think about their possible interactions.

basically, i need to see more pre-cult and during the cult kaidan!!

"Blackreach seems almost endless.. It would be more fascinating to study if it wasn't filled with Charus and blood thirsty Falmer." Lucien sat his bags down and rested inside the alchemist's makeshift refuge. "This Sinderion fellow did a lot to study the crimson nirnroot. Perhaps we should get some samples before we leave?"

Kaidan glanced at the dragonborn, "Keryth?"

The snow elf jerked his head upwards, "Huh? Oh.. yeah. Sure. That would be fascinating.."

"Sorry did I say something wrong again? I know Dwemer are a touchy topic-"

Keryth shook his head and sat down on a chair he found. His ears were pointed slightly downward but his expression remained the same. "I guess it's just a lot to take in really. We found geode veins that provided multiple soul gem samples and the implications unsettle me."

"How so?" Kaidan sat down nearby to pull out a ration.

Lucien hummed in thought, "I suppose the geode veins would make the location ideal for them, considering their automatons run on soul gems. Mostly anyway."

"Mmhm. The most common samples I found were for white souls. Black soul gems are harder to find."

"Right..." Kaidan blinked, "Sorry, I don't know much about enchanting."

"Our souls are black, animals have white souls. Less intelligent beings if you will." Lucien smiled.

"What's that got to do with the Snow Elves then?"

Keryth sighed and curled his cloak around his body, "The Falmer have white souls. Its a theory but..it makes me wonder if the Dwemer purposely made my people to be like cattle to fill soul gems."

Kaidan and Lucien got quiet while they shared a few looks. Lucien frowned and leaned against the stone wall.

"Hard to say, I'm afraid. We know next to nothing about what really happened to them. I can see why such a theory would unsettle you don't get me wrong. I-" Lucien sighed, "I'm sorry friend. Maybe we should get through this place as quick as we can."

"Its okay Lucien, I'll be fine. Just please don't use soul trap while we're down here. That's all I ask." Keryth looked toward the stone slab of a bed behind them and decided to just unfurl his bedroll.

"Course, I'll try my best to remember." Lucien rummaged in his bag for his own bedroll.

"You gonna eat?" Kaidan got next to Keryth, who didn't seem sleepy at all.

"Maybe later. My appetite was lost between seeing mangled corpses and charus hunters bursting from their cocoons."

"Aye. Could tell the noise bothered ya. You did that thing with your arms and made a gagging noise." Kaidan lightly teased.

Keryth sighed while playfully rolling his eyes, "Can't help it. Some noises cause me to just recoil and cringe. Those things are a sensory nightmare for me."

"Perhaps you should summon Inigo later with that spell of yours. He's adept at killing large bugs." Lucien slipped into his roll and got cozy.

"...Maybe. Yeah." He glanced over at his human companions and lightly smiled. "Thanks...for coming with me down here."

"Of course my friend. These ruins are fascinating but don't think I'm having more fun than you. It's more spooky than anything really. Although the giant glowing mushrooms are a nice touch." Lucien chuckled.

Keryth finally laid down. "Yeah.. They're beautiful in their own way."

"Would be nicer to look at if we weren't getting snuck up on every damn second. Speakin of which.. I'll keep watch while you two nap." Kaidan yawned. "Long as I get a turn."

"We'll try to remember, right Keryth?" Lucien looked over and saw the dragonborn had already dozed off from pure exhaustion. "We'll take that as a yes."

This is mostly for my own use, but here's screenshots of the Thalmor dossier on known remnants of the Akaviri from the Kaidan 2 mod

Identifying Akaviri

Common physical characteristics are likely diluted, however certain traits are recurring. Akaviri will have a sharpness in the eyes and bone structure similar to Mer but all other physiognomy indicates they are a race of Men.

Hair color varies from dark brown to black, eyes may have hues of gold or red. Most telling, an Akaviri will not be able to display any innate magics or abilities of known races. It is unknown if they specific abilities of their own - first era records suggest a connection to the Dragons.

There is the possibility of Akaviri being able to 'shout' (called kai in their native tongue), however no such individuals have been identified.

Clan Duadeen

Village site: Flint River Valley, Southern Druadach mountain range. 112 miles from Hammerfell border.

Blades Associates: Tralan Du'an (suspect), Iszara at-Mardeen (suspect)

Akaviri Bloodlines: Du'an, Onishi

Purged: 5th First-Seed 4E 176

Notes: Clan largely a preservation of Akaviri culture; only 3 confirmed Akaviri among a largely Redguard population of 32. No survivors of raid. Landslide engineered by from surrounding mountains has buried the site and made it inaccessible. Possible clans have integrated with the Forsworn since for protection? Legion soldiers involved in operation.

Clan Kori

Village site: NNE Dawnstar

No Blades suspects.

Akaviri Bloodlines: Takeuichi (eliminated)

Purged: 17 First-Seed 4E 176

Notes: Nomadic fishing tribe, sea-faring. Official report indicated whole tribe was eliminated but only two boats counted - suspiciously small number. Possibility of clan members having escaped or relocated? Village site burned and all remains destroyed.

Legion not involved.

Notes: Clan posed as mining community, investigation of tunnels showed a labyrinth of routes through Northwind Mountain. Position of settlement provided them with natural fortification and resulted in a siege. Believed all clan members captured or eliminated, however no final numbers provided. Legion soldiers involved in operation.

*Flagged as known Blades Agent, captured, executed after questioning proved fruitless. Interrogator noted physical sigs of recent parturition.
