so tw: for abandonment, abuse and references to neglect and mistreatment by parents to young children. here are the backstories of the rebels, in order from best parental treatment to worst

Eveline’s mother was making up for lost time. Due to being informed of the mistreatment of her step daughter due to her jealousy, Queen Helga Grimhilde saw Eveline as her one greatest second chance. She truly loved Eveline, and joined the High Council of Grimm Island for the education of her daughter and other children of ‘villains’. She still suffers from envy, but has tried hard to prevent it from bubbling to the surface, leading to her being detached from others

Belle and the Beast are often preoccupied with their careers as Wish Academy’s librarian and unofficial head of the High Council of Grimm Island to give Bas the love that he deserves. Bas often feels pressured to live up to his parent’s legacy, especially with how successful Wish Academy is, but it’s clear that his parents love him no matter what he wishes to pursue. Belle also keeps the secrets of the Rebels ‘study group’, helping them with their goal of outsing Bitterman

Jafar was not cut out for parenthood. As a result, when Jaleel was born after an accidental tryst, he had 5 years under Jafar’s parentage, before he dropped him off at an orphanage and left all together. At the orphanage, Jaleel was adopted by Aladdin and Jasmine, Aladdin understanding what it’s like to live without a father and taking the boy under his wing. Jaleel doesn’t view Aladdin and Jasmine as his parents, more as glorified babysitters until his father gets his act together

Kaia despises her mother. It’s kind of hard not to considering that Maleficent viewed Kaia as nothing more than a miniature version of her. When Kaia didn’t live up to the expectations of the Mistress of Evil, Maleficent grew cold and pushed Kaia away. It didn’t help that her biological father - Maleficent’s raven Diaval - was more absentee than her mother became in later years. This could be the reason she goes by Kaia instead of the more commonplace ‘Mal’

The Fairy Godmother isn’t a bad parent, but due to the amount of work she has as Wish Academy’s Guidance Counsellor, she rarely has time for Faye. Faye became incredibly used to this, having no siblings either, so she shut herself in. When realizing that the main reason her mother was overworked was due to the Dean’s behaviour, she set up the Rebels ‘study group’ with help from Bas and later Kaia to try to remove him from his position

Why Cruella Deville had a child was beyond Ezra, let alone several. Even as her eldest son, her lack of care for her children was shocking to him. There were some days when she would just neglect to feed them, as well as treating them as live in slaves -- or worse, pets. Ezra knows of Cruella’s backstory, the death of her mother and her troubled behaviour as a child. As a result, he played protectorate for his younger siblings, which resulted in the abuse getting worse for him and his siblings. At Wish Academy, Ezra tries to keep the peace amongst the Villain Dorm, mainly to make up for his fear of his mother

Norwegian / old norse names and places

Every now and then I come across a book, movie, TV-series, fanfic, game or whatever, that mention a fictional "Norwegian" or "norse" place or person, and it just sounds so wrong it makes me either cringe or ROFL. Really. I still haven't recovered from the 1995 X-files episode, "Død Kalm", which took us to the port of "Tildeskan" where we met "Henry Trondheim", "Halverson" and "Olafsson". Hopefully this list will keep others from being that “creative” with names. :)

Names usage Double names, like Ragnhild Johanne or Ole Martin are common in Norway. Just keep them as two names and don't use "-", and you'll be safe, even if it ends up a tongue twister. Using only one of two given names is also common practice.

In Norway everyone is on a first name basis. Students call teachers and other kids' parents by their first name, workers call their boss by their first name, we call our Prime Minister by her first name (journalists will use her title when speaking to her though). Some senior citizens still use surnames and titles when speaking of or to people their own age.

There are some exceptions. For example, a doctor may be referred to as Dr. Lastname when we speak of them, but first name is used when speaking to them. A priest is "the priest" when speaking of him/her and their first name is used when spaking to them. In the millitary only surnames (and ranks) are used. If you meet Harald, the King of Norway, in an official setting you will refer to him as "Kongen" (the king). If you run into him at the gas station, or while hiking, he is "Harald".

If you don't know someone's name it is okay to use their title, or just say "you".

Examples: Eirik Blodøks (Eirik Blood-Axe), Gammel-Anna (old Anna), Halte-Ása (limping Ása). I suggest that you stick with English for bynames, or use (relatively) modern language if you are writing in Norwegian.

Surnames

Surnames weren't really a thing until 1923 when they became mandatory. Before 1923 patronyms (son/daughter of) were used, and the name of the farm you lived on was often added as an address.

For instance: Helgi Eiriksøn (Helgi, son of Eirik), who lived at the farm called Vollr (grass field), would be called Helgi Eiriksøn Vollr. If he moved to the farm called Haugr his name would change to Helgi Eiriksøn Haugr.

Patronyms

Men: Use father's first name and add -sen /-son /-sønn Women: Use father's first name and add -dotter / -dottir / -datter

Farm names

Farm names were usually relevant and derived from either the location, a nearby landmark, nature or from occupation. I suggest you stick with the modern forms for farm names.

The list of common names for places/villages/towns is still valid, although the spelling is modern. Just keep it simple and make "clever" combos based on meaning.
