Darren almost loses another wife too young.

But thankfully, he wins Cassandra's life back, and Kaden Dreamer is born safely! Tragedy avoided!

Mortimer may not be so lucky.
(This was an unexpected occurrence. 😅)

Flex Legacy: My So Called AU Life
Mariah aged into a teen and ends up falling for Francisco Tate. the AU son of Jovie Tate. (From my Tate legacy. Think of this as a @doctorsimcraft and Cabbage situation)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She thinks he’s a nature maniac, but she at least she finds him attractive. He, on the other hand, thinks she’s the hottest sim to walk the Sim Earth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Francisco doesn’t mind testing out the Crystal Creations pack for me. Maybe one day he’ll propose to Mariah when they are Young Adults with a ring he made himself.
Tumblr media
Initially, I planned for Mariah to get with Kaden Dreamer who is the son of Dirk Dreamer and Lavina Chopra. (I know, such a weird pairing) But Mariah only found him basic and Kaden ended up dating Francisco’s AU twin sister, instead.

SHADOWS OF SORCERY | Part 21 | “Shadow of Death” | 3,036 words
Content Warning: Violence. This is a more serious part. DM me if you need to confirm whether or not there is a major character death.
Tumblr media
A long line had formed at the arena doors. The magic reader stood there in uniform, a glass-like geometric pin glowing on the side of his coat, taking students’ hands and reading their palms for their core magic. It wasn’t a long process. It just took a second for him to sense their magic type and whatever other magic had intertwined with theirs.
     Kaden was up next.
The monotony of reading so many different palms seemed to bore the reader. At least, until Kaden held out his hand. The reader took it and froze, holding it there. Kaden's throat tightened as he stood there.
Elora said she had reclaimed all of her mind control magic. She said there shouldn't have been any trace of it left in his system. The reader shouldn't have been able to feel it.
But the reader definitely sensed something. The surprise on his face was telling.
"I remember this core…" he finally said. "You're the one who was given the spare magic core?"
     Kaden nodded.
"Don't waste it." the reader said. "It's not very common to get second chances like that."
Kaden mumbled a ‘yeah’ and drew his hand back as soon as he let go. He waited for Imogene to get her palm read and then they both went inside together. The arena was already quite full. The buzz of the crowd filled the air around them.
     "That was weird…" Imogene said.
Kaden didn't say anything. They simply headed to the stands and sat down to watch a few matches. They weren’t going to stick around for too long. The matches were interesting, but uneventful. Thankfully. Charlotte and Jaelin had met them there and they all went for something to eat afterwards.
Kaden was even more silent than usual. He was worried he would slip up and say something about Elora's magic. Especially when the other two asked Imogene how she was doing. Imogene navigated through the conversation flawlessly though, mentioning how written exams were coming up next up and Elora was a hot-mess-stress-express and just needed some space.
Yeah, like I wanted when Elora kept forcing me to hang out with you guys, Kaden thought.
Imogene fell silent after that. She went for a long sip of her drink. She wasn't wrong when she said she could hear everything he was thinking. Kaden sighed and picked at his salad with his fork. He just wanted to go back to his room and forget about all of this, to go back to everything before he ever heard about Elora.
They finished eating in time and then they all went their separate ways to their dorms. He opened his door tiredly and that's when Kaden caught the notebook on his desk glowing bright purple from the pages within. That meant that someone had written to him. He wandered over slowly, pulling it open and reading the fancy penmanship inside:
I see that you are no longer under her control anymore. You are welcome back into our company.
If you can kill her at your next practice, I will return your magic core to you and you can have your pick from the shelves. Complete with full access to the room at any time.
I've left an item in your desk that will allow you to block the other girl's mind reading. Make sure to allow her to read some of your thoughts so she does not catch on.
Kaden's hand trembled as he reached for the top drawer of his desk and pulled it out, revealing a silver coin. It was part of the old monetary system—before dreamer magic systems replaced the need for it. They were just considered good luck charms now.
Tumblr media
The next day came and Kaden held the coin in his hand when Imogene knocked at the door. His heart beat hard in his chest. He closed his fist.
     They were already here.
He pocketed the coin and told them to come in.
They were here to pick him up for training.
Now that Imogene had studied the magic security check patterns for a couple of days, Elora felt safe enough to leave her room and follow Imogene's lead. They waited for just the right moment to leave the dorm hall and go downstairs to the training rooms.
Imogene patted her back reassuringly before they continued on to the training room. Elora glanced around, eyeing the hallway and gauging the risk she was taking in her heart. Locking herself in her room any longer would've gotten suspicious fast.
Elora concentrated on her steps towards the center of the practice room, her heart beating loud in her head. Kaden could tell she was distracted too. She wasn't in the same headspace as usual.
"Okay, right here," Elora held up a small energy field in front of herself–no bigger than a paper plate. Indicating the target she was giving him. They had been working on precision control last time they were here.
He was definitely getting better at conjuring casting magic. Making the flames of energy was a lot easier now. If he really wanted, he could hit all of her firelights in one blow and knock down Imogene behind her too.
He got into position, winding his arm back with a heavy feeling in his chest—and then conjuring that magic. It started off like an arrow and then exploded across the air like a bomb. Too fast for someone who wasn't expecting it to block it.
Elora screamed, crashing down to the floor.
     "Ahhhhhhh!"
Imogene fell to her hands and knees with a cry too.
And the very next instant, Devin teleported into the room alongside an unfamiliar figure. He stood next to some graying middle aged sorcerer with a keen look in his eyes.
But the look vanished the second Elora lifted her hand with a devilish smile.
"Caught you."
The next instant, the pair froze under the grip of her mind control. Elora rose from the ground, easily and without any struggle. Her firelights had all fallen to the floor and shut their eyes like they had been killed, but now they shot up into the air; dancing circles around each other like they were laughing.
They had been in on it too.
The whole thing had been a ruse.
When Imogene had walked into Kaden's room, he had communicated everything about the message last night by letting Imogene read his mind. He let her read his mind about the coin too. He had been afraid to leave it. Just in case the extractor was watching them.
And when Imogene had set her hand on Elora's back, she gave Elora enough ambient magic to read both of their minds. They all knew.
Elora also knew well enough by now that the extractor was too afraid to confront her himself. So she had asked if Kaden would pretend to attack them. To draw him out. Then she would control him and make him confess to his crimes.
Kaden had agreed. And Elora had shielded herself perfectly from the actual attack—expecting it.
It had all gone according to plan.
     So far.
Elora had Devin under control instantly while Kaden backed her up, casting an energy field and wrapping it tightly around both of the villains.
"I don't… think… so…" the other guy said amidst his struggling.
Imogene saw his five magic cores very clearly. That had to be why it was so much harder to control him. Elora fought to hold him, her fingers tensing as she gestured to keep him from escaping. In doing so, the man shapeshifted inadvertently, revealing his true form.
"The magic reader!" Imogene called out behind Elora.
Yet, as Elora struggled to exert control over him, the man broke loose and teleported out of his spot. He teleported right to her—taking advantage of the instant the mind control had broken.
He grabbed her wrist and took her.
     Teleporting out of there.
He was gone. And so was Elora.
"Elora!" Imogene screamed as she sprang forward into the cloud of frantic firelights.
     Too late to catch her.
Tumblr media
Elora tussled with him as they both reappeared somewhere else–but she only had one last good swing left in her before the poison core drained her body of any physical fighting spirit. She collapsed. She dropped all the way down, too weak to even lift her head.
But she kept her glare as the man approached her again. Freezing him right there in her control. She wouldn't let him take another step toward her.
"You're not getting my magic." she spoke weakly.
"Clever… not letting me teleport out of the school…" he bared his teeth at her.
"You're going to heal me… and tell me if you're the one who gave my parents this poison core."
He resisted at first, but the truth came out. She forced it out of him:
"I was. I read your magic on that kid you controlled back at the park." he spoke low, trying to fight the urge to tell her. "I looked everywhere to find you… Then once I knew it was you… the perfect opportunity presented itself when your parents asked Jay Seal where he got his luminess core."
Elora's hand trembled a little, trying to keep her controller magic steady. His healing abilities weren't working fast enough to keep her from enduring that awful sickly feeling. She felt like she was going to pass out.
     But she had to know.
She still had to prove her parents were innocent.
"He asked me to bring them one. I just didn't give them what they asked for."
The reader struggled before he went on.
"Then I killed Seal so they wouldn't believe anything your parents said."
Elora's fingers twinged with anger as she glared at him. It looked like they were in an empty classroom, a training room for the teachers to instruct students on various magic techniques. It was empty. But the entire floor had to be empty too.
Everybody was at the arena watching matches today. They were still holding exams. Even if they thought to look for her here, it would probably be too late by then to save her…
But she could still save her parents.
Elora turned her hand. She would focus her energy on controlling him to turn himself in. Making him teleport straight into Dean Mora's office and confess to everything. She just had to be sure the magic was strong enough. So she gave that final twist of her hand everything she had, ignoring the searing pains in her stomach as the poison core sent chills through her body.
By the panicked look on the reader’s face right before he vanished, she had accomplished exactly what she wanted. But now she was all alone. It looked like she was up on the fifth or sixth floor. So she was probably too far away for anyone to hear her.
Not that she had much time before the poison killed her.
The arena was attached to the back of the building, so that was far away too. But it was close enough that she did not feel so lonely as she lay there dying. She only wished that she could tell Imogene she was sorry and not to blame herself.
     That was her only regret.
Her breathing shallowed as she lay there. It hurt too much to think. She could just barely make out the sound of running footsteps before the door burst open.
     "Elora."
A faint glimmer of hope flashed through her eyes. It was Professor Hawkins.
"I need a healer…" was all Elora could manage to say.
Professor Hawkins stared for a moment. Then he glanced back over his shoulder, out into the hallway before waving his hand and commanding the door to slam shut. At the same time, a purple seal of light flashed over it.
Elora's heart caught in her throat.
     No.
Professor Hawkins approached her slowly, glossing over her poor state.
"No," Professor Hawkins said, crouching down to meet her gaze. "You don't need a healer."
That sinking feeling in her gut intensified as he reached toward her and she had no choice but to mind control him.
But Professor Hawkins didn't react much as his hand froze. He was merely a little surprised. It wasn't particularly troubling to him.
"You're a controller?"
The next instant, he broke through the mind control and reached straight through her. That's when his arm phased through her body and he pulled out the marble sized Queen of Poisons core.
The green strokes of light inside the glass-like texture gave away exactly what it was. It was unmistakably a plant core. Pinching it between his fingers, Professor Hawkins let it turn to dust.
The trickle of purple sand falling to the floor made Elora freeze.
     It was gone.
     The poison core was gone.
"I'm sorry, I thought you knew what I was doing." Professor Hawkins said.
Elora felt so much lighter all of a sudden. He was holding a hand to her arm, aiding her in the healing process. Absolving any trace of poison still left in her system. Slowly but surely over the ticking seconds.
Elora pushed herself up from the ground carefully as she got her strength back.
     "You're an extractor?"
"Yes, and I see you're a very powerful mind controller. I thought you were a mind reader."
"I— I lied. I didn't want my magic taken…" Elora said, feeling defeated.
"Well, that's good, because I don't want mine taken either," Professor Hawkins said. "I thought I was going to have to move again. But I think we can keep each other's abilities secret, can't we?"
That was right. Extraction abilities were generally illegal. Only the regional extractor was allowed to keep the ability. But was it really safe to trust him? Elora glanced down at the purple dust on the floor. If Professor Hawkins had really wanted her core magic, he could have just taken it right then. He could have just let her die.
He was just like her. Hiding his magic so no one could take it.
Elora nodded. She had no reason to turn him in.
"I would have offered to take it out earlier," Professor Hawkins continued. "But I got the feeling you didn't exactly trust extractors."
"Oh, right…" Elora recollected her bitterness when he asked her why she hadn't had it extracted.
Her exact words had been: Only an extractor can remove a plant core, so it came from an extractor. And I haven’t crossed anyone off the suspect list.
"Now, what happened? Who did this to you?"
Elora shot up as quickly as she could, still wobbly on her feet.
"It's the magic reader. I sent him to the dean's office–."
"The reader? I'll take care of him." He started to walk off as soon as he saw that Elora had her balance.
"Wait. What about my poison core? People will know I don't have it anymore. They'll know you're an extractor."
The thought crossed Professor Hawkins' mind, his unease showing slightly.
"It's okay. He was trying to take your magic anyway, right? Just say he took the wrong core."
Elora swallowed. She didn't want him to get in trouble because of her. Wouldn't someone see through the inconsistency in their story? A magic reader could sense exactly what type of magic they touched. There was no way he would take the wrong one. Surely, someone would question it.
But she didn't stop to argue. She hurried after him and they ran downstairs to get to the administration offices. It was a few floors down, so they had to go fast. Once they got to the first floor, it was then that Elora caught sight of one of her firelights zipping past them.
It zipped back after realizing what it had seen and danced around her excitedly–the sole firelight in sight. It tickled her and a laugh escaped as she slowed down at all the little bumps as it bopped into her ecstatically.
     "Okay, okay, I'm okay!"
With that, the firelight nuzzled into her face before zipping off down the hallway and disappearing. She cast a glance in its direction before rushing to catch back up with Professor Hawkins. In another minute, they made it to the dean's office where members of the Power Authority already surrounded the magic reader–known as James Hemlock. Mr. Gallison was extracting every magic core from his body while they held him down.
They stopped there in the hallway.
     Did he reveal her secret?
But she didn't have to guess much longer. Because he had just caught a glimpse of Elora out of the corner of his eye. It must have freaked him out that she was standing out there perfectly fine and not dead at all.
      "That girl, she has—!"
Elora focused on his throat and kept him from speaking any further. That shut him right up. Thankfully, no one looked Elora's way. They seemed to just think he was crazy by the looks on their faces.
One by one, his magic cores were destroyed.
     It was over.
Elora stared in a daze before something soft bumped into her shoulder. It was the firelight from before. Like the first drop of rain before a rapidly increasing downfall. Her firelights poured out from around the corner and bopped into her excitedly, followed closely by the running footsteps of her friends. Imogene was running to get there first.
     Elora was alive!
Imogene ran straight to her and the firelights knew to move so they didn't get squished as she embraced her so, so tightly.
"I thought he was going to kill you!" Imogene cried, her sobs catching in her throat.
Following not too far behind her was Kaden, Charlotte, and Jaelin. All with relieved looks on their faces. It was such a bittersweet moment in their hearts.
They had all been so worried for her.
     Elora's eyes watered.
Still wondering if everything would really be alright. They would undoubtedly question her and everyone else. They would definitely wonder who took her poison core. She hated to relish in this feeling of bliss if it could all still be ripped away.

do you listen to music when you write/edit "An Arranged Marriage" ? what kind of music gets you in the mood to write/edit the fic?
I do have music that I listen to get inspired, but I don't oftentimes write while listening to music. I listen to all sorts of music over the course of my day, so I tend to have it quiet when it's time to sit down and write.
...
Well, I guess that's a lie, because I've got two lists: inspiration music and writing music. Both I occasionally dip into if I feel that it is necessary for the scene (parties, dances, etc) or if I just feel the vibe is necessary.
Inspiration music is whatever song I've latched onto for the day that just gets my interests going. I can't possibly list all of the songs that have inspired me, we'd be here all day if I did, but I can offer some of my most recent songs I've listened to. They may not even be possibly related to the story, just the vibe that's being given off by the song has caught my attention.
"Dance With Me" by Phillip Phillips
"5 AM (extended edition)" by Amber Run
"Song of Durin" by Clamavi De Profundis (honestly they're pretty good for anything I'm writing)
"Wake the Witch (feat Roxane Genot)" By Karliene
"Let You Down" and "When I Grow Up" by NF
"Reasons" by Beth Crowley
"Everybody Knows (unstoppable)" and "Maneater" by Royal Deluxe
"You're Not Welcome" by Naethan Apollo
"Rise Up" by 2WEI & Edda Hayes
"Castle" & "Colors" by Halsey
"Experience" by Ludovico Einaudi
"Royalty" by Egzod, Maestro Chives & Neoni
"Glimpse of Us" by Joji
"Golden Hour" by JVKE
"Your God is Dead" by Really Slow Motion
"Middle of the Night (Violin)" by Joel Sunny
"Carry Me", "Eurielle", and "Hate Me" by Eurielle
"Glitter and Gold" by Barns Courtney
"You are the Reason (Duet Version)" by Calum Scott & Leona Lewis
"Somewhere Only We Know" by Lilly Allen
(I will also say that some of these songs are good for Mergana in general, but not all Mergana songs are "An Arranged Marriage" songs and not all "An Arranged Marriage" songs are Mergana songs. Perhaps one day I'll compile a list for Mergana, but that will take a lot longer to do.)
Writing music is just wordless, storyless music that just has the sort of... vibe that I'm going for that I play in the background while I write. Mostly, it's this list that I will pick a song from and listen to on repeat in the background, but sometimes they're inspiration as well.
Various different Gregorian chant albums
"La Petite Fille De La Mer (Remastered)" by Vangelis: Delectus
"TLT Birdies" by The Lonely Tree Birdies
"Snowfall" by Oneheart & reidenshi
"Kammergrav" by Danheim
"300 Spartans (feat. Merethe Soltvedt)" by Lunan & Richine Kohan
"Dreamer" by Low Roar
"Don't Be So Serious" by Low Roar
"Don't You Dare (make me fall in love with you)" by Kaden Mackay
"Heather (Violin)" by Joel Sunny
"Experience" by Ludovico Einaudi
"Leave A Light On (Jayson DeZuzio Remix)" by Tom Walker
"Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root
"Wish That You Were Here (From “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” Original Motion Picture)" by Florence + The Machine
Very rarely will you notice the 'musical intention' while in the story, but if there is like a specific song that I wish for people to listen to while reading it, I will list it in the chapter.
Alright, I think that's all I got! Thanks!

Hi again! Soooo what would be your theme song? And what do you think the other's theme songs would be?
A lot of unconventional songs give me gender euphoria, but for a theme song, it's a close contest between 'Chaotic Gender Neutral' for obvious reasons, and 'The Phantom of the Opera' because DAMN does that song go hard. It's hard not to feel like an omnipotent being when listening to that song.
Whenever I hear 'Passing Through' by Kaden MacKay I think of Lasko. It's got his anxious yet chill vibes. But I'll be damned if there's a better title to fit him than 'D&D is Gay (But So Am I So That Tracks)'. His playlist is full of sad songs but ultimately I think he deserves something lowkey but still optimistic like 'Lucky People' by 'Waterparks'.
Gavin loved 'Vending Machine of Love' when it was trending, he said it made him feel hot and I am inclined to agree, but 'Do it all the Time' by 'IDKHow' is just perfect for him. If I'm honest I have quite a few for Gavin I could make a playlist at this stage.
I think 'Puppy Dog' by 'Dreamer Boy' is pretty fitting for Huxley, since he truly does do the puppy dog eyes, but anything upbeat could define Huxley. Ever since we watched High School Musical together, 'Get your Head in the Game' makes me think of Hux too, since he truly gets in the zone for his games. I like to sing it at him when he's practicing sometimes to make him laugh.
Songs from Damien's study playlist come to mind when I think of a theme song for him, specifically 'Corduroy Dreams' by 'Rex Orange County', but we of course need a song to represent grumpy Dames, and if you get on his bad side 'Hate You' by 'Boston Manor' is perfect. But then again, maybe we should just make his theme song the Mario Kart theme since he is who we all immediately think of when we hear it.
OOF that's another long one, but it was super fun to think about! Thanks for your question OP :))
ooc: yes this is a brief look into my interesting music taste go easy on me. also can you tell me and FL are one in the same?

SHADOWS OF SORCERY | Part 16 | “Shadow of Threats” | 1,731 words
Content Warning: Violence, blood
Tumblr media
Caution tape covered the vending machine under the school's dark stairwell. Bright films of purple light closed off that section of the building, sealed by dreamer magic that only the teachers could unlock.
The teachers tried to reopen the portal, but nothing happened. The seal was gone. They held the dagger to the right side of the vending machine like Imogene instructed, but it was too late. The portal had probably been destroyed.
Within the next hour, Imogene sat in Dean Mora's office running through what had happened. All the while her attacker's dagger sat on the dean's desk. Sealed inside of a box of purple light. The silver weapon glowed bright around the edges, mesmerizing Imogene as she went on; fascinated at how long the dagger was keeping its form.
"I had to use one of the magic cores to escape…” Imogene said, “because my casting magic was too weak to break the cuffs.”
“So you have two magic cores right now?”
Imogene nodded. It was generally illegal to keep two sorcerer cores.
“I’ll schedule an appointment for the regional extractor to come and take the other one.” Dean Mora said. “But in the meantime, just get some rest and let me know if you remember anything else.”
She let Imogene go and Imogene left the room with her friends—Elora, Charlotte, and Jaelin. Once they were a few steps away from the door, Jaelin piped up first:
“Why did you get so nervous when she said she’d make an appointment for you?” he asked.
Imogene’s heart stopped at the question. She wasn’t good at this on-the-spot stuff.
“Because!” Imogene’s face heated. “It’s a phasing ability, so what if his hand gets stuck in my body?”
“Eugh.” Jaelin shuddered at the thought.
“I’m pretty sure it’s never happened…” Charlotte said, not realizing how her uncertainty sounded.
     “Pretty sure?!” Imogene said.
“I’ll go with you.” Elora said quietly. Knowing that this was her fault that Imogene ended up like this. No one would have known about Imogene’s ability if she hadn’t followed her here to the academy.
Tumblr media
The rest of the exams had been canceled for the day while the teachers looked for the student who attacked Imogene. They figured out his name was Devin Sage. But he was nowhere to be found. So they modified the school's seal system to lock him out.
Imogene sat on her bed now, telling Elora the full story—the bits she had left out at the dean’s office.
"He knew all about you, Elora. He talked about Kaden not remembering anything about you… and having an extractor. He said he might just extract my magic."
Elora crossed her arms as she took in the information. This only confirmed that she couldn't trust any extractors right now.
"Maybe Kaden remembers something about him." Elora pushed herself up from the chair at Imogene's desk. "I'll make him tell me."
"Wait!" Imogene shot up from her seat and took Elora's arm. "Don't use your ability. I can just read him. We can scope him out tomorrow. Right now would be too suspicious."
Elora glanced back at her and exhaled.
     "Okay."
Tumblr media
The next morning, Imogene and Elora scoped out the different dining halls on campus and walked past the entrances—peeking in. Elora and Imogene stopped and leaned on opposite sides of the archway at one place, just standing around. There weren't many people there. Most of the tables were empty.
     I don't think he's here, Elora thought.
Imogene heard her and they almost went to leave when Elora caught Kaden passing by them. He shot Elora a weird look, seeing the swarm of firelights taking up all that space around her. Elora froze, wondering if he suddenly remembered her, but he simply kept walking.
Damn, what a freak, he thought.
Imogene made a slight offended face (for both Elora and the firelights) and then signaled for Elora to follow her. They went to one of the buffet server counters and got in line. They scooped eggs onto their plates, grabbed some toast, and picked at different fruits while they waited for Kaden to sit down somewhere.
He sat down at one of the regular tables in the middle of the dining area. So Elora and Imogene sat down at one of the booths off to the side and glanced over discreetly.
He had set his keys down on the table, his student card and charm linked to it, and he started to eat while staring at it. Seeming to expect a message.
Why isn't he responding? Kaden thought to himself. Where is he?
Imogene could sense exactly who he meant too: Devin Sage. The student who had disappeared as soon as the teachers went looking for him.
"Hmm." Kaden voiced his impatience low in his throat.
You were supposed to give back my magic core. My exam is coming up today… What the hell am I supposed to do now?
Imogene's pupils shrank at the revelation. Then she glanced out carefully, making sure he wasn't looking, and scanned his body for a magic core. Her magic core sight vision focused into clarity—showing everyone else's purple light emanating from the center of their chest, all except for his.
Imogene made a teeth-gritting face, feeling a little sorry for him. He had no magic at all. She sensed that they had taken it from him to keep him in line. They were using it to blackmail him.
Kaden glanced around the dining hall, scanning around—suddenly paranoid. If they had cut off contact with him, maybe he was next one on their kill list. But anyone in the room could have been the extractor.
Imogene got a sense of a face from the depths of his thoughts. It was Dean Mora. Except… it wasn't Dean Mora.
Imogene looked back at Elora uneasily, unable to say anything just yet. She waited until they were back at the dorms to talk. Imogene went right to her room's bright white and yellow sunflower curtains (that she had swapped out with the school's generic blinds) and glanced outside before wringing them closed.
"They're a shapeshifter…" Imogene whispered. "The extractor has been taking the form of the teachers and staff to get around campus without getting caught."
"A shapeshifter…" Elora let her thoughts wander at the implications. It would be very hard to pin down their true identity, let alone link them to their crimes.
"He took Kaden's magic too. He didn't remember you… but he remembers agreeing to help the extractor in exchange for a different magic core."
     "What did he want?"
"I don't know, but his match is today. And he doesn't have any magic."
"Serves him right for trying to kill me…" Elora said.
Imogene didn't say anything at first.
     "Should we go watch it?"
Tumblr media
They were required to watch at least three exams a day, so Jaelin and Charlotte didn't think anything of it when they invited them to check out the matches after lunchtime. They tagged along to watch with them.
Jaelin sat there, getting a headache and wrinkling his forehead as he watched Kaden entering the ring.
"God, he's really nervous. I can feel it all the way up here. I don't understand why he's so nervous… he's really good at developer magic." Jaelin said.
Elora and Imogene both kept their lips sealed. They just watched as the teachers announced Kaden Brush's name. Soon, the buzzer sounded and it had begun.
Kaden only made half a step back before his opponent shot him down. The dagger shot through him like an arrow at bullet speed, flying out behind him as he fell backwards in shock. It was a serious hit.
Eliciting the loudest collective gasp from the audience.
Kaden hit the floor and his opponent dropped their defense shield, dropping their jaw at the effect their weapon had on him. It had cut straight through him like butter. Developer magic was made of pure energy—and sorcerers emanated pure energy from their magic cores; so they usually absorbed some of the force of impact.
But Kaden didn't have any core magic.
The teachers ran out to the ring and went to his aid immediately. He'd been shot straight through the stomach. Their healing power had little effect though, so one of the professors went across the arena to open the healing room. The teacher put his hand to the purple seal and then froze at the sight of the empty pedestal inside.
     "The luminess core is gone!"
A twinge of horror flashed through Elora's heart. The school’s healing core was missing? There was no way that this hadn't been planned. It was intentional.
     They wanted Kaden dead.
And while Elora thought that Kaden might have deserved it, she felt her head turning slowly toward Charlotte—the best healer in the whole school. If he died, she wouldn't have any more leads to go off of.
Charlotte traded looks with her. She understood. She gulped and rushed out of her seat and ran to the stairs, getting down to the ground floor as fast as she could. She was breathing hard as she got to the film of purple light and then she yelled out to the teachers to convince them to let her through.
     "I can heal him!"
They agreed and let her into the arena. Once Charlotte set her hand on Kaden's shoulder, he gasped at the sudden rush of vitality flooding his chest. Kaden breathed hysterically as he lay there, coming to grips with the traumatic injury as his wound closed slowly but surely in Charlotte's care.
Exams were, again, canceled for the rest of the day. The school went on high alert—investigating the incident. Kaden told the Dean that he didn't know his magic core had even been taken.

Elora stared at the sunflower curtains in Imogene's room as she recollected the day's events, along with yesterday's: Imogene lying in a pool of blood in a dark hallway by the vending machine. The imagery of that deep red puddle still haunted her.
"I have to use my ability on him."
Imogene's glasses rolled down her nose a little as she rolled out a sunflower patterned sleeping bag. Hearing Elora's comment, she looked up and pushed her glasses back up her nose. She knew how Elora felt about using her mind control ability.
Except this time, Imogene didn't try to sway her.

Tang Playlist
Tang’s playlist speaks to me about who he is as a character, his own inner struggles with himself, his façade and his hopes for a still brighter and better future. As well as his actual insecurities he keeps hidden while he tries to be strong for everybody. At his core he’s a dreamer who wants to love and be loved and has a lot to offer others.
