EVENT 01: FOUNDERS DAY PART 2

As the smoke from the fire began to billow up into the sky and almost obscured the moon that rested high in the sky, the three packmasters gathered in the middle of the square and called to attention the rest of the citizens of Athos. While a majority of them could be found surrounding them, there were still some that were out of place – no doubt busy coupling, or at least that’s what the Fenrir packmaster believed – and as eyes rested upon them, Makani Parata took a step forward to address the crowd. “We want to thank everyone that took the time to participate in today’s Founder’s Day, but most importantly, we’d like to thank the wolves of Sabre for their hard work today. Without them, we wouldn’t have the food, the drink, or the music to really make this a day of celebration, and without them, we would also have to worry about all of the pups running between our legs and tripping us up,” he said, earning a few chuckles from the audience – though he was sure people also enjoyed the fact that the pups were otherwise preoccupied as it meant that they didn’t have to be nearly as discreet about things. “We’d also like to thank, of course, every single one of you. Without your hard work and your dedication to making Athos the community it is today, who knows where we might be? Because of you all, we are self-sustaining and we are well on our way to becoming a sought after location for wolves wanting to start a new life.”

Looking over to the other packmasters, including Cassius Scala who gave him a nod, Makani turned to face the crowd once more. “But I’m sure you all aren’t keen on listening to me give thanks. You want to know who won our competitions!” A chorus of cheers echoed then, and the Fenrir packmaster could only smile and chuckle. “Fear not, we have the results. Our winners for the hunting competitions, both in the solo field and in the group competition, all hail from Fenrir and have honored me and their pack well – Sethan Woods managed to bring in the biggest game, no doubt thanks to his hawk of his, and the group consisting of Yric, Silas Rivera and Aurelio Radulfr tackled a massive bull moose and won. Not only have these wolves honored me, but hopefully their efforts will show that you cannot count Omegas out – they are just as capable, if not more so, than others.”

Looking into the eyes of the members of his pack, especially both Sethan and Aurelio, he gave nods in their direction. “The fishing competition was won by Barrett Henderson, a Sabre wolf that has often soothed us with his melodic voice, and his fellow packmates, Fengfan Wu, Nix Staves and Henry Lowell, won the group competition. Their catches were impressive in both quantity and quality, and I’m sure the cooks will be grateful for the influx of fish to serve to us all. But it seems Sabre wolves certainly did well for themselves, this year, as they also managed to win the trapping competitions! Elsyon Velard won by single-handedly trapping his prey, while Udele Acker and his group managed to lure their prey into a trap. Because of the result of their efforts, and the result of the efforts of you all, I’m sure whatever meat that we used today will be more than replen-”

“FIRE!”

The crowd immediately looked over in the direction of the builder’s workshop to see it up in flames, fire licking at the roof of the building and a plume of smoke rising into the dark sky. Faces of worry crossed everyone’s features, especially the Venois wolves who all wondered what items were in the workshop that would be destroyed, when Cassius Scala lept from his spot and ran for the building. “Cassius, no!” Makani called out to the younger wolf, hoping to stop him from being a hero, and he had started to go after him when someone called out once more.

“THERE’S ANOTHER ONE?!”

Eyes turned to look further behind the Builder’s Workshop to see that the storage that housed their carriages was also up in flames. It was hard to tell which fire started first, as both were pretty heavily consumed in flames. “Quick, everyone, grab a bucket and some water. Fill up the empty barrels if you have to… We have to take care of the fires!” There was no moment to lose, and the crowd of people began to frantically go in search of something to be able to help contain the fires. Some wolves had shifted and were trying to dig so that they could kick dirt into the base of the fire, others were grabbing whatever containers they could get their hands on – buckets, cooking pots, empty barrels that once housed mead or wine – and others went to check on their pups.

“Cassius?!” Makani called out, trying to peer through the flames and the smoke to see if he could see the Alpha coming back out… but he couldn’t.

And by the time that the flames subsided, leaving the carriage storage in ashes – and their wagons completely unusable and beyond repair – and the builder’s workshop completely charred and almost irreparable… Cassius was no where to be found. At least until Makani searched through the wreckage of the builder’s workshop, noting that a few items that the builders had been working on had been saved – thrown out of the windows or the door to protect from the flames, items like a bassinet, the head of a bedframe, a couple of chairs – before he stumbled upon the charred and burnt corpse of the Venois packmaster.

With eyes closed, Makani breathed in slowly and whispered a prayer to Mother Wolf before he reached forward to close Cassius’ eyes. Lifting him in his arms, he walked out of the builder’s workshop to find the packs in disarray, arguing with everyone. Blame began to rest upon Fenrir for setting fire to the builder’s workshop because of their disdain for the way that Venois viewed the genders as equals and Fenrir wolves shot the blame back and told them that it was because of them that they wouldn’t be able to do any trading for weeks – all the while Sabre wolves tried to play the mediator.

“We have more important things to worry about than who started the fire!” Makani finally called out, Cassius’ body still in his arms. “We have lost an important member of our community, your packmaster,” he said, looking over at some of the Venois wolves that were arguing, “and he deserves the respect of everyone here.” There were still some murmuring, some people wondering if Makani was just trying to shift the focus because Fenrir was to blame, but for the most part began to agree and nod.

“We have a funeral pyre to start.”

I’ve been talking about it for over a week now, but it’s time to announce our first event - Founder’s Day! Founder’s Day is a day to celebrate, you guessed it, Athos’ founding and it is a time for the three packs to put aside any issues that they may have with each other - if they have any - to rejoice in their freedom from the tyranny of the crown. The bards will be playing in both the tavern and the town square, drinks and food will be aplenty - and not just at meal times - and there will even be a hunting competition that any wolf can compete in to show off how attuned to their inner wolf that they are.

The event will start on Monday, January 30th and will last until February 6th though it all takes place on the same day. A more detailed post about the event, and the hunting competition, will be made on Monday. But be on the lookout, because there may also be a secondary post made during the week for the wolves to react to, as well...

Okay, I teased enough... If you want to know more about the event, you’ll just have to wait until next week to see what all the admin team has up our sleeves. We can assure you... It’s going to be interesting, to say the least.

– ♡ good morning lovely ones! so, while we’ve already made the announcement on our discord, as well as discussed it at great length with our members, the admin team is finally hopping back onto tumblr to update the main here as well! our original plan when we took a brief hiatus last month was to transition astralis onto jcink for an upgrade that would benefit our wonderful little group that’s been open for seven months now, but after a well-documented issue with one of our oldest members not being able to access jcink, we made the decision to put a halt on the revamp for the time being and stay on tumblr for a little bit longer. 

there are still plenty of changes we’ll be implementing (an increase in characters, an extended activity period, and eventually, muse cycling), and you’ll see all of that and more within the next week or so as we brush off our dust and take care of some housekeeping on the main. our core members have already been notified via the discord, but we’ll be officially reopening for activity on wednesday, april 7th; for all NEW characters, you’ll have until thursday, april 8th to post your intro as well as as an ic post, and all current characters will be given the updated fourteen day activity period to come back from hiatus. 

the admin team will also be making some adjustments to our rules in regards to not just the aforementioned character limit, flex activity, and muse cycling, but also inclusivity, diversity, and racial sensitivity. at its core, astralis is a group run by an admin team that is 2/3rds poc and specifically designed to be a safe and welcoming space for poc in particular; please expect to see some changes in our rules that will further reflect this!

The Story So Far (Recap)...

With the coming of the Winter Solstice, there are those who sought to face calamity head-on through the development of new and tenuous alliances. High Lord Gabriel Beaumont of the Night Court was the first to take action, cementing an unheard-of alliance between his court, The Garden and the Wild Hunt in the unparalleled Beaumont-Wren wedding. Yet mere days into this uncertain political alliance, a murder took place within their territories, seeing a civilian of Autumn slain by a group branding themselves as a human Resistance. Their enemies emboldened, the attacks on the Fae increased, nearly claiming the life of the High Lord of Spring and plunging their budding alliance with Winter and Autumn into doubt.

What’s more, the Fae have been dealt with a terrible loss in the shocking death of Lysander Caerwyn, Dawn Court’s High Lord at the hands of none other but the Resistance’s co-leader Noa Kumar. Rising from the ashes of his untimely murder is the long-presumed dead Faun Deerling - Spring Court’s former High Lady. Never before have there been such massive changes among the solar courts, and Dawn in particular is scrambling to find a new leader; all the while, Spring Court is desperately vying for Faun’s reinstatement as Queen.

But as the Fae Courts and human resistance alike struggle against these latest violent changes to everything they know, the Solstice draws ever closer, bringing with it changes that threaten to jeopardize everything...

– ♡ good evening, loves! the admins wanted to pop in and let you know that we will be making a few temporary tweaks to our activity rules! given that the holiday season is upon us and we know a lot of people are under particular stress this year, we will be doing an activity check break from friday, december 18th, 2020 to january 4th, 2021, so you all have a reprieve from strictly adhering to the 10 day (currently 14 for the holidays) activity window during that time! we encourage everyone to continue with your threads as is, but we hope this will take some of the pressure off of all of you as we move into a crazy season of the year. however, the one thing that we are still requesting all members to keep track of posting on time is the anonymous holiday gift exchange. please refer to our previous post on the matter if you signed up for the exchange!

the main will go “quiet” during this time, so to speak. we will not be accepting any additional characters from new or existing members in this timeframe since we will be on a bit of a lull. the admin team will continue to update members regularly through the group discord and hope that you can all take this time to recharge, refresh, and enjoy whatever holiday you may celebrate in the month of december! additionally, as a gift to our members and to celebrate being open for almost four months, during the first week back from our hiatus (so, the first full week of january), we will be allowing all members to apply for one additional character with no restrictions in regards to existing activity. furthermore, we will be increasing the maximum amount of characters you can have from six to seven in the new year, as well. please take this time to decide if an additional character is feasible for you and we hope to see all of your current and new babies in the new year!

– ♡ gooooood afternoon and welcome back, lovebugs! the december holidays have dwindled down, and per our announcement in the group’s discord yesterday, the admin team is so excited to open things back for proper roleplaying, plot drops, etc.!

now that we’re back to our regularly scheduled program of 10 day activity, we have a few additional updates for all existing (and prospective members! as we expressed to our members when we started the holiday hiatus, we’re going to be upping our character limit to 7 characters (yay!). starting today, everyone will be able to apply for an additional character. however, we want to reach out and express a gentle reminder to everyone to please take your own individual activity into consideration before taking on an additional character. if you’re someone who struggled with activity because of real life commitments, that’s something to take into consideration before applying for another character. the admin team will be keeping an eye on activity and inclusion of interactions, as per usual, and if we feel your activity or inclusivity is becoming a problem, we’ll have to address it with you privately and problem solve to figure out what the best solution is for your unique schedule / availability.

the admin team has some exciting things on the horizon, between revamping the dawn court and preparing for our next group event / plot drop, so stay tuned for that as we settle in post-new year!

melisa pamuk as autumn court or wild hunt member ?

– ♡ good evening, anon, and thank you so much for reaching out! to be completely honest, melisa pamuk wouldn't be an appropriate faceclaim choice for the wild hunt. as admin stag has previously expressed, per our lore, the wild hunt is expressly reserved for visible people of color, so any faceclaims chosen would need to reflect that. faceclaims of turkish origins can sometimes seem a bit ambiguous since turkey, as a whole, is comprised of several different ethnicities; this means that turkish faceclaims may be turkish by nationality but white by ethnicity. in the instance of melisa pamuk, a few google searches showed multiple sources that listed her as ethnically white. 

 it's really important to the astralis admin team to preserve the wild hunt as visible people of color, as so often we find that a lot of safe spaces for muses of color often lean towards a lot of white-passing fcs. if you would like to have the same sort of "feel" for melisa pamuk, we would absolutely recommend bringing her in as a warrior fae! alternately, your suggestion for a member of the autumn court would work well, too! <3
