I see directly post-canon labrumiso as a polycule that both laios and mithrun are dating kabru but not each other, BUT! I do think that they could be a triad after a while with mithrun and laios building a relationship.

it's insanely funny to me the image of laios sadly telling mithrun about a interesting monster he never got to see before he got cursed, so on one random regular meeting mithrun suddenly teleports into the room with a carcass of the monster laios wanted to see

but I think the funniest of it all is that because of mithrus terrible sense of direction he would have to teleport short distances to be able to figure out where he is and make his way into the castle,that week there was a lot of rumors of a elven ghoul dragging a carcass across the kingdom

also mithrun would immediately crash from lack of mana after teleporting all the way into the castle

If I'm being entirely honest, I don't think I remember enough to share a large-scale story like you were probably hoping for, Anon, and for that I .. apologize.

My mother, though... From what little I can remember, she was strong, resilient. It was just us two and yet she made it work. I can recall watching her cook in our little at-home kitchen, and she'd share the steps to each recipe since I was curious. No one in Utaya deserved what happened to them, but I find myself wondering about her far more often than the others. Mostly on the why's. Why did that have to happen to her in particular? She was kind, that much I can say for certain. She, before Milsiril, comforted me about ... well, assumptions made about me. She never once let me think it was true.

My memories of her are scarce. And I wish they weren't.

okay imagine if one day falin finds a drawing of her chimera self that laios drew, and then starts taking the little bits of feathers and scales to try to make a smaller replica of her former self and essentially ends up with the goodsmile chimera falin figurine

like she thinks its a fun project and then when she finishes making it, she gives it to laios who puts it on his desk and then when marcille and kabru come to see him next they're both absolutely horrified by it and marcille threatens to set it on fire and then laios says that falin made it and they just have to. accept it.

My vision for modern day AU Kabru/Mithrun.... Kabru takes a job as a live-in caregiver to help get through college (And possibly hoping to get written into some old rich guy's will) --> When he gets there his charge (Mithrun) turns out to be the scariest old European man he's ever met. Mithrun inexplicably has a really nice car + house despite having no apparent job, keeps dropping horrifying stories about various near-death experiences and then laughing about them, refuses to disclose anything else about his past. Kabru shows up one day and the rest of the canaries are in his kitchen in matching black suits talking about something in Russian and he's like christ. This guy's clearly a fucking mob boss or something and I'm gonna get killed for being here . Do you see my vision here

The panel where past!Mithrun takes Kabru for a swim is my favorite X) The first ever merman to almost drown an infer - I mean, a human accidentally.

I love how much of an insufferable brat past!Mithrun is here, and how Kabru goes from being rightfully afraid and cautious to completely aggravated. XD Such a fun dynamic! (At least they get along better once Mithrun learns how to walk on land, good for them!)

But of course Kabru x current!Mithrun is best KabuMisu. They are so precious. <3

I think my fav part about Kabru is how he’s Utilitarian to a genuinely horrifying extent. Like he literally puts a man down not bc he hates him but because letting him live would harm the future of the island. Even as a lesbian I can recognize how that’s terrifying in a hot way.

I really should write a fic about it. I have so many headcanons and fan dungeons; Icelandic Atlantis dungeon, The Oubliette, Labyrinth dungeon where the demon acts like David Bowie, and (always sunny theme) "Mithrun takes the gang cave diving." which includes Otta getting cockblocked from the hot halfling scuba instructor and the consequences of everyone forgetting to keep reminding Mithrun to equalize his ears when they hurt.

I'm of the opinion that Flamela was Mithrun's second for his first dungeon back, but the party nearly wiped during the dungeon lord fight (half the party died including flamela, Mithrun collapsed from mana depletion, and the last one standing smartly gave him a rapid mana transfer before resurrecting anyone else. That was when the Canaries learned they had to make sure to check his mana reserves before a big fight), and afterwards she was made deputy with her own squad and only sent to baby dungeons and ancient magic investigations.

She has NEVER forgiven Mithrun for that, she got ONE TASTE of everything she wanted and now her job is mostly fucking paperwork!

The thing for me with the Kabru and Laios scene in ch.76 is that I think making it romantic takes something fundamentally away from it and away from Kabru's character arc. However you choose to see their relationship, personally, I don't see them as romantic- I think it has to be exclusively a confession of friendship and one of the very very few times in the manga that Kabru is ever genuine. It's so fucked up how we went from the beginning when Kabru said he doesn't trust the Toudens, he thinks they're doing something shady, he thinks they're malicious, he doesn't trust Laios, to now such desperation that he's chasing after him and grabbing onto his clothes like a child begging him to stop and listen to him. It's such a sad display considering how Kabru is always so well put together. Him getting so desperate that he admits how all he ever wanted was to be Laios's friend, and then his look of horror as he realizes he admitted something he never wanted to admit, he was vulnerable without wanting to be? Then for Laios to turn around and say he was lying, that there were better ways to make friends, and that he didn't have time for this conversation. Oh, it hurts so bad. Kabru has no real friends, not really. Only Rin has gotten close enough to be considered it, he has been a hated child all his life, he has never fit in anywhere. You would never guess it with the way he acts, with his casually confident he is and how personable he is, but he didn't fit in from the moment he was born. No one truly knows him. How lonely to be disowned and hated by all your family besides your mother, to lose your mother when you were still so young, to be taken to a country where no one recognized you as someone to be respected because of your life span, to not be allowed to take on dungeons how you wanted to because you weren't good enough in the elves eyes. Even now, even when he wanted to make friends, Laios and Falin never noticed him, never paid attention, never listened, and what is Laios doing in that scene beside the exact same thing. He tried to shut down Kabru so many times, to the point that Kabru had to force him to listen by way of physical force. How sad for such a horrifying admittance to simply be, "I always wanted to be your friend". I think taking that scene to be a lead-in for romance undermines how truly sad and lonely Kabru's life has been leading to this moment where such a gutwrenching confession is just that of wanting a friend.

That moment where Kabru dies in ep. 17 got me horrified for a minute because I was really attached to him. Then I’m like “oh right he’s died like thrice already. This is just a hobby of his.”

“Thank you…” Holm sighs, choosing to ignore the rough jostling, “So as I saying, I finally bought a house. I’d really appreciate it if you all could come to dinner to celebrate.”

Daya scratches the back of her neck, lips pursing thoughtfully, “Can I bring my fiance?”

“Sure! It’ll be a great time for you all to finally meet my spouse as well.”

Kabru is first to respond, a despondent, broken, “wh-what…?” croaking out.

“You’re married?” Rin mutters, covering her twitchy mouth with a gloved hand and brows furrowing. If none of them knew her, they might think she was disgusted by the information.

Holm nods, “I never found the right time to bring it up, but now is perfect!”

“Married…” Kabru’s horrified, he had zero idea Holm was a taken man -- and he’d been meeting with the gnome’s sister often! Did she have no clue either? They weren’t the closest siblings, after all…

“See you all for dinner then?” Holm bypasses the man’s internal struggle completely.

Rin, still with elation masked as indignation, nods rapidly, “We’ll be there!”

… 

“Married,” Kabru’s still pouting by the time he and Rin arrive at Holm’s new residence, “And I had no clue…”

“He hardly minds,” Rin rolls her eyes, a kinder lilt overtaking her tone, “Besides, nobody else knew.”

Sighing wistfully, Kabru doesn’t expect her to understand, only continuing to mope.

“You’re probably the only one who brought a gift, so at least take that as a win,” Rin grumbles, annoyed by his angst, and knocks on the door.

Holm is not who greets them at the door, but rather a total stranger who already knows their names, “You must be Rin and Kabru! Welcome in, I’m glad you both could make it!”

Kabru’s terror only increases at the realization you know him by description, and he cannot even guess as to what your name is.

“I should die…” he whispers.

“Huh?” your eyes widen.

“Kabru! Rin!” Holm saddles up beside you, a hand finding the base of your spine while the other outstretches to accept his leader’s cradled gift, “You didn’t have to bring anything!”

“I would’ve felt terrible,” Kabru shakes his head, smile soft yet disarming.

You take it that you must’ve just misheard the nice man, then…

“You know,” Mickbell calls from where he’s lounging in Kuro’s lap on your couch, “I never would’ve taken you as the type for a serious relationship.”

Daya has half a mind to whack the man, and she probably would have if her own fiance hadn’t barked a laugh in approval. Instead, she swats him in the chest with a quiet grumble to be nice.

“Why wouldn’t I be?” if it weren’t for his gentle face, one could take the question as offended.

“You’re too laid-back…” Kuro huffs agreement to Mickbell’s point, “I would’ve thought a married man is more intense.”

“I don’t think that’s necessarily true,” Holm thankfully takes the jab with humor, “I’m seventy-six, not forty.”

“Imagine if you were?” you laugh.

“Nightmare, I’d be about you,” Holm chuckles.

“Oh, but it’d be flattering!”

“I was too immature.”

Mickbell scoffs, “Stupid long-living gnome and his stupid happy marriage.”

This time, Daya does smack the half-foot.

Meanwhile, Kabru is viciously examining yours and Holm’s body language and Rin is trying to psychically tell him to be normal.

“Your party’s very interesting…” you murmur to your husband.

“They’re just excited to be here.”
