Week 1 Almost Done

Whoo child. I’m almost there. One more day. It’s been a whirlwind! Lots of good times: conversations with parents happy their kids have options, chats with kids about what they’ve been inventing in class, dance programs they’ve written computer codes for, or teachers they love. I have awesome teachers working with me this year that have already created game plans for loving on some of my regular key players...On the other hand, I think I ever want to be a principal for a regular school year. THERE’S SO MUCH STUFF. Emergency plans, transportation issues, scheduling classes, ordering supplies, making copies, ensuring supervision of students...my goodness. It’s overwhelming. Honestly I think making sure students had transportation to and from school has been the most difficult thing to figure out. Today was the first day I felt like things ran smooth-ish...and that was with a bus breaking down taking kids home. Lvbs. We’ll see what happens next.

This one hit home a lot as a mom, sister, and teacher. This books makes you think. The notion that as humans we default to truth is eye opening. 12 chapters of thinking about situations in the US and around the world we’re affected by our natural inclination to believe people are good... I was intrigued. The audio book is read by the author and includes real clips from events that have happened but focuses on tying everything back to the unnecessary traffic stop that led to Sandra Blands murder.

This is a short read. There was a little more in here about the author than I would have liked. 1) I say read everything by Ta-Nehisi Coates. 2)I believe there’s something wonderful about every black woman named Sophia. 3) Memory and it’s power of conduction are everything. 4) I truly believe water ( and family) is magical. It’s really bothering I’m unable to go home home due to the pandemic. 5)I’m never reading just one book. Interesting anecdotes in this little book here. Biggest take away - it’s important to PRIORITIZE what you give a fuck about, what you pour your life into. Not that anyone hasn’t heard this before, but it’s helpful to keep being reminded about how we should focus our energy and effort because we have control over that. Welp, another book down. Morning reflection time 🙂One positive outcome from being at home for everything is that mornings aren’t rushed anymore. I love actually cooking breakfast, eating and talking with small human 🥰...instead of him eating in the car or in my classroom while I set up before I drop him off at his school. “If you want to be in the top 5%, you have to be willing to do what 95% of people won’t do.” - This was my biggest takeaway. In my opinion, as a literary work- this was meh.
