The new Canada Disability Benefit will lift about 25,000 adults out of poverty, according to new numbers released by the federal government — a figure well short of the hundreds of thousands the government said the benefit would help when it introduced the legislation in 2022. "We have an opportunity in the House to bring about a once-in-a-generation change and lift hundreds of thousands of working-age Canadians with disabilities out of poverty," Carla Qualtrough, then the minister of employment, workforce development and disability inclusion, told the House of Commons on September 21, 2022. The Liberals passed Bill C-22 in June 2023, creating a new federal benefits program to lift people out of poverty by topping up provincial supports. Payments will begin rolling out in July 2025. The maximum benefit for low-income Canadians with disabilities will be $200 monthly. While 1.6 million Canadians with disabilities live below the poverty line, April's federal budget indicated only 600,000 would be eligible for the new benefit.

"Canada will halt future arms sales to Israel following a non-binding vote in the house of commons. The foreign affairs minister, Mélanie Joly, told the Toronto Star her government would halt future arms shipments. “It is a real thing,” she said on Tuesday [March 19].

The decision follows a parliamentary motion, introduced by the New Democratic party (NDP), that called on the governing Liberals to halt future arms exports to Israel. The New Democrats, who are supporting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s minority government, have expressed frustration with what they see as his failure to do enough to protect civilians in Gaza.

The motion – which passed 204-117 with the support of Liberals, Bloc Québécois and the Green party – also called on Canada to work “towards the establishment of the state of Palestine.""

I hope this continues to backfire on the Trudeau government in so many ways. He has already publicly addressed this numerously and rightfully so -that he does not condone Islamphobia/any racism and hatred, but look what we have seen, especially these past few months alone -how a vast majority of Canadian politicians support a violent settler state's ethnic cleansing of Palestinian people and have not demanded a ceasefire.

It makes me think of these statements made online -how Muslim and Arab people in western and european countries have been seeing people who look like them -like their children and family members and friends -getting bombed and killed for months on end. What makes you think they will remotely want to vote for genocide apologists, child killers, and those who support IOF terrorism...
