Paramount Plus’ prequel to Grease follows the formation of The Pink Ladies and their pledge “to act cool, to look cool, and to be cool. ‘Til death do us part, think pink.”

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies stars Shanel Bailey, Marisa Davila, Tricia Fukuhara, Jackie Hoffman, Johnathan Nieves, Ari Notartomaso, Jason Schmidt, Madison Thompson, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, and Maxwell Whittington-Cooper. The musical features original music by Justin Tranter. Jamal Sims is onboard as choreographer. Annabel Oakes serves as scriptwriter, showrunner, and an executive producer.

As a musical series, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies was likely to succeed or fail based on its songs. That's why the production team brought in Justin Tranter as its executive music producer. Tranter, who has written songs for a wide variety of artists, including Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Selena Gomez, Imagine Dragons, and Fall Out Boy, has either written or co-written all of the show's nostalgia-infused tracks. When we spoke to Tranter about the show's music, they explained how the writing process was different than writing for pop artists.

The popular music from the late noughts on made rock quite popular as you can hear. Sure, a couple of cognoscenti dislike a fact that their favourite Pitchfork-approved bands don't get the numbers of, say, Imagine Dragons, but this doesn't mean rock is dying. Speaking of the collective – they became the next Nickelback, though I would dare to call them the next Killers, had the latter tried to mix Van Halen from the 80's, which wrestled in their spare time, that is shadowed by an A.I. bot trained on Max Martin. Something gets lost in the translation here, yet you have to admire their audacity to make such a melange. Sure, they are basically Spinal Tap without a laugh track for the TikTok age, though – isn't one of the points of rock also to be willing to make a fool out of yourself?

Chuck D, Herbie Hancock, Jelly Roll, and more were named Global Music Ambassadors by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and YouTube Global Head of Music Lyor Cohen. They are part of the inaugural roster of U.S. Global Music Ambassadors as part of a U.S. Department of State-YouTube Global Music Diplomacy Partnership. Their job is to use music to promote world peace on behalf of the United States just like jazz greats Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Benny Goodman, and Duke Ellington did in the 1950s. The American artists chosen have a history of public service and have made significant strides in their creative work. The Department and YouTube will announce additional ambassadors in future months. Check out the video of Secretary Blinken's launch of the U.S. Department of State and YouTube partnership with the artists in attendance earlier this week and the other video of each artist acknowledging their new role. Kane Brown, BRELAND, Grace Bowers, Lainey Wilson, Justin Tranter, Denyce Graves, and Armani White were also on the list of music ambassadors.
