Antiwar.com co-founder Justin Raimondo passed in 2019.  He would have been 73 today.

Justin had been a close friend and political partner of mine since 1976.   We started Antiwar.com in 1995.

You can read about his life here.   He wrote close to 3,000 articles for Antiwar.com which you can read here.

Here is a mostly-complete archive of Libertarian Vanguard, the newspaper of the first Libertarian Party Radical Caucus, which was run by Justin Raimondo, Eric Garris, Murray Rothbard, Roy Childs, Colin Hunter, Bob Costello,  Chris Weber, Diane Pilcher, Scott Olmsted, Johnnie Gilman, and others.   Justin Raimondo was the editor and wrote most of the content.  It existed from 1979 to 1984 and operated out of Libertarian Books and Periodicals in San Francisco.

Justin wrote a regular column for Chronicles Magazine.  His archive is available here.    They will allow you to read two articles at no cost but then require you to subscribe.

His book Reclaiming the American Right is an excellent history and analysis of neoconservationism.   He also wrote the best biography of Murray Rotherbard, An Enemy of the State.

Hearing these assessments of Murray Rothbard and paleolibertarianism as a predecessor of modern right-populism makes some things I was noticing in the late '90s daily libertarian links roundup at free-market.net but didn't have referents for finally make sense, particularly Lew Rockwell and Justin Raimondo (noted as a disciple) at Antiwar.org. The distinct thing about the paleos it seemed to me was their monetarism, and with that site they were leading with a position – non-interventionist right-pacifism – that they did honestly hold, but seemed more importantly an open niche they could claim. Associating them with '90s white-Enough!ness… makes sense, though.

Of course it was just a coincidence that the first organized attack on a North Korean facility by internal rebels (supposedly) took place days before the scheduled North Korean-US summit in Hanoi. Ten masked men stole computers, interrogated North Korean officials, and drove off in a number of luxury cars. Credit was taken by a group that calls itself Chollima.

Despite constantly being told by the Western media that this is a totally unknown group, to anyone who knows the least bit about Korean history, this is laughable. In the mid-1950s, China’s “Great Leap Forward” was in progress, and Chollima was the Korean equivalent. It means “speed” of an unusual sort, and the symbolism was based on a mythological winged horse that could supposedly gallop at one thousand li (over a mile) a minute.

Since the North had limited physical resources, the idea was to overcome this by sheer ideological zeal. In short, Chollima was never some secret movement in opposition to the regime, but was instead a state-sponsored phenomenon from start to finish. “Chollima” is what they call their state soccer team.

So who are they, really, and what do they hope to accomplish?

As Jacobin’s own Branko Marcetic observed two years ago, Schiff’s bellicosity is extensively funded by arms manufacturers and military contractors. A Ukrainian arms dealer named Igor Pasternak held a $2,500 per head fundraiser for Schiff in 2013, as the late Justin Raimondo reported in a terrific analysis on Antiwar.com in 2017, at a time when Ukraine was desperately trying to counter the Obama administration’s disinterest in funding its war with Russia. Despite that disinterest, the State Department approved some very profitable dealings for Pasternak in Ukraine after that fundraiser.

And that’s only one example. In the current cycle, donations from the war industry have continued to flood his coffers. Many come from employees of firms with extensive Department of Defense contracts, including Radiance Technologies and Raytheon. PACs representing the defense industry also make a robust showing among Schiff’s contributors, according to data on Open Secrets.org; companies funneling money to Schiff — sorry, contributing to those PACs — include Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Radiance, and others, including L3Harris Technologies (which got in big trouble with the State Department in September and had to pay $13 million in penalties for illegal arms dealing).

Guess what these companies want? War with Ukraine. Why wouldn’t they? Last October, the United States approved a $39 million sale of anti-tank missiles to Ukraine, a joint contract between Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. The previous year, Ukraine bought $37 million worth of missiles from the same two companies. As a missile-maker, Zacks Equity Research has noted, Northrop Grumman also benefits richly from conflict in Ukraine, as missiles are heavily used in cross-border wars.

Despite his enthusiastic support for state violence and cozy ties to the makers of deadly weaponry, Schiff, an Alexander Hamilton–quoting windbag, doesn’t have much crossover appeal to the sort of people who put “These Colors Don’t Run” stickers on their trucks. His impeachment crusade only seems to reinforce Trump’s support among the faithful; at this writing, 93 percent of Republicans oppose the president’s removal from office.

The crisis is upon us, and yet hardly anyone outside of a few old-fashioned liberals sees it. Their view is obscured by the Brobdingnagian figure of Donald J. At the highest level, top FBI and CIA officials deploy the assets available to the most powerful government on earth to harass, undermine, and betray a sitting President, subverting the constitutional order and establishing a fateful precedent. On another level, this regime-change operation is being waged in the media – or, rather, by the media, since 95% of the “mainstream” news outlets have been turned into anti-Trump propaganda outfits, emitting straight polemics 24/7. It’s no different from what they did in Chile, in 1973, when the CIA overthrew Salvador Allende, using clandestine contacts with the media to target the government with black propaganda, false flag incidents, and a general atmosphere of instability and crisis.

This isn’t about Trump. The stakes are much higher than the fate of his presidency and political fortunes. It’s about preserving what’s left of our old republic. So long as “The  Resistance” can obscure this stark reality with emotional appeals, and diversionary tactics, they’ll succeed in setting the cornerstone of a new American political system – one in which an unelected permanent bureaucracy rules the roost and makes the rules.

The Deep State must be defeated. After we do that, we can argue about Trump.

It’s odd seeing someone at Antiwar.com make some of the same points (like “the Resistance” as “CIA-backed color revolution” only internal) as folks like Jim Donald.
