always remember.

this sweet little girl was murdered in 2008, at 2 years old. her name was Caylee Anthony and was presumed to have been murdered by her mother, but with no crucial evidence to trace it back to her mother, Casey, the case remains “unsolved.”

on June 16th, 2008, Casey stormed off with Caylee after allegedly arguing with her parents (Caylee’s grandparents), George and Cindy. it’s not clear where Casey went following the fight, but it was the last time Caylee was seen alive. a month later, July 15th, Cindy and George found the car that Casey drove off in. it had been impounded after being abandoned. they found an odd smell coming from the trunk. "I was very concerned about the odor. I had smelled something like that some years prior and I was concerned," he said. as a former police officer, testified that the odor was that of a decomposing human body.

the day that Cindy found Casey, she was very upset that Caylee wasn’t with her. she made several 911 calls, each one increasingly panicked as she got more information. in the first call, she claimed that police needed to arrest her daughter “for stealing an auto and stealing money”. she then found out that Casey hadn’t seen Caylee for 31 days, which, coupled with the smell from the boot, made her report on another call, “There is something wrong. I found my daughter’s car today, and it smells like there’s been a dead body in the damn car.”

Casey Anthony was arrested, charged with lying to police, interfering with an investigation and child neglect. she very soon became a person of interest in the case of her missing daughter, made even more suspicious due to the story she told the police. she failed to report her 2-year-old daughter missing for a month; then, when reports were made, it was by Caylee’s grandmother while Casey robotically spoke in the background.

she claimed to have left Caylee with her nanny, Zanny, so that’s who must have taken her. the nanny’s full name was Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez. Casey led the police to the apartment she claimed Zanny lived in, but nobody there recognised Casey as a visitor and the apartment she led them to had been vacant for months. it was later learned that Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez was a real person, but she came forward saying she had never babysat Caylee, nor had she met anyone from the Anthony family.

Casey led the police on a wild goose chase, claiming she was trying to help find clues about Caylee’s whereabouts, however, around the same time, police found out she was lying about where she had been working. Casey claimed to have a job at Universal Studios, but when police went to talk to her supposed co-workers, they said they’d never seen her.

police confirmed what Cindy reported in her calls, finding evidence of decomposition in the car. they then also found evidence of chloroform in the trunk. as the case gained media attention, Casey was charged with murder and manslaughter, as well as several cases of lying to authorities.

on December 11th, a utility worker came across skeletal remains in the woods near the Anthony family home. the remains were tiny in size, no bigger than a three-year-old. the body was in a laundry basket and wrapped in a blanket. a week later, it was confirmed to be Caylee Marie Anthony. cause of death was determined homicide by undetermined means. years went by without further evidence.

in 2011, the trial began. Casey was painted as a party girl with little to no interest in being a mother. it was said that while Caylee was supposedly missing, Casey was out on the town, drinking and living it up, and even got a tattoo reading “Bella Vita.” her defence team told the story that Caylee drowned in the family pool, and George, Casey’s father, tried covering up the accidental death. George allegedly carried the dripping wet body into the bedroom she shared with Casey before he disposed of her, blaming Casey for the death.

they then tried to explain why Casey lied to the police by saying she was a compulsive liar due to “hiding internal anguish from childhood,” that George had been sexually abusing Casey. despite no reports, evidence or signs of a history of repeated assaults existing, and an accusation that George denied.

it was revealed in court that someone in the Anthony home had looked up chloroform on the family computer, shortly before Caylee vanished. this also lined up with the prosecutors theorising that Casey used chloroform to knock Caylee out before suffocating her. Cindy would then admit that she had searched for it. she was claiming that she had intended to look up chlorophyll, the natural compound in green plants that makes them green.

“Towards the end of the trial, it became clear that the only evidence against Casey was circumstantial at best; nothing forensically or witness-based could tie Caylee’s remains to Casey. Authorities couldn’t place Caylee’s remains in the car’s boot, despite believing that was where she was hidden until being dumped in the woods. The prosecution relied on Casey’s odd behaviour and her personality’s general unlikability to convince the jury of her guilt. They were confident this, her habit of lying, and the circumstantial evidence would be enough.” (medium.com)

Casey was found not guilty, however, she was found guilty of lying to police, then serving four years in prison.

Caylee deserves justice, and her family deserve to know what really happened to her that day.

Off topic but have you ever looked at a picture and just known that there was something wrong with the person in it? I feel that every time I see a picture of Casey Anthony. Even before I knew what she had done (warning for anyone wanting to look it up, it's awful), just seeing a photo of her makes my skin crawl. Literally reaffirmed by belief in human souls from seeing someone without one.

By twenty-two, Brona had met a cute boy at True Blue Karaoke and what was meant to be a one night stand turned into a three year long relationship. She eventually found out he was cheating on her with multiple women in town and dumped him. Broken up over leaving their dog, Walter, alone with him, she eventually came back a few months later and unchained him from his dog house to take him back home with her.

Brona eventually started looking into becoming a dog trainer. Knowing a few ex military types who worked with dogs, she started there and worked her way out. She started training friends' dogs before working her way up to starting her own business. A few years after Wally passed away from old age, she eventually adopted an ex-military working dog named Tina. It took a little time for Tina to really trust Brona, but they're now inseparable and Tina is quite willing to do whatever it takes to protect Brona; something she often has to do.

Brona spends a small but important amount of her time protecting the community. She keeps track of the violent people, criminals, and sex offenders in the area and whenever they step out of line in any way she doesn't like, she deals out the justice she believes the police should have and leads the trail of evidence to other criminals or anyone she believes would have motive to kill them.

After years of doing this, the cops finally catch on and she has to leave town. Currently homeless, she and Tina make their way town to town and state to state under different aliases with no hope of ever truly settling down again.

Casey Anthony is Getting a Docuseries Because Our Brains Are Mush and Our Souls Are Rotten

In the world of scripted television, victims get justice, grieving families get answers, and the rule of law abides.

TV is nice. In real life, however, Casey Anthony gets to live her life following the horrific death of 3-year-old Caylee. And, of course, following Casey’s acquittal.

Most infamous … alleged … child-murderers would happily disappear into anonymity if they could.

Peacock might not have “streaming giant” status, but NBCUniversal’s streaming service is actually one of the better ones out there.

In addition to a host of existing properties, from Murder She Wrote to The Real Housewivesto beloved films, the service offers originals.

Peacock just announced Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies.

This limited docuseries will feature the infamous, widely reviled individual herself.

Peacock released a stomach-churning teaser trailer for what feels, to some, like Casey’s version of If I Did It.

“Why talk to me now when you’re not getting creative control?” we hear an interviewer ask her.

The ill-advised docuseries will debut later this month, on November 29. There are three parts to it.

Alexandra Dean, the showrunner, released a statement to explain this baffling project.

“Since her acquittal in 2011, public opinion of Casey Anthony has been largely shaped by the media convinced of her guilt,” she began.

Her statement claims that what emerged “is a startling psychological portrait of Casey Anthony.”

“And,” Dean continues, “a complete narrative of what she says happened to her daughter.”

Alexandra Dean claims: “I believe the result will surprise many.”

“And,” she insists, “cause the American public to look at this story in a new light.”

Dean also emphasized how Casey Anthony has not actually given an in-depth interview. Not with cameras rolling.

People had a lot of questions about her behavior — even her defenders (they exist) would have liked answers during her trial.

One important element of this docuseries is that Casey Anthony herself does not possess creative control.

She cannot give “notes” to production or to editors.

Especially in the wake of Netflix’s Dahmer, a lot of people feel fatigued with how people this infamous get to be “entertainment.”

In Casey’s case, it’s even worse. No actor is portraying her in a sensationalized film. She’s speaking directly. One assumes that they paid her for this.

If more people felt that Casey’s acquittal was just and true, this wouldn’t be a big deal. But that is not what the vast majority of people believe. Look, maybe this will change hearts and minds. But for now, people feel pissed that Peacock is giving this a platform. Caylee would be 17 years old right now. She should be.

Former Police Officer - Three More Indicted

Former San Diego Police Officer Peter Griffin and Three Co-Defendants Indicted for Owning and Operating Illicit Massage Businesses in California and Arizona A federal judge in the Southern District of California partially unsealed an indictment today in which four individuals are charged with conspiracy, interstate and foreign travel or transportation in aid of racketeering (ITAR), money laundering, making a false statement to a mortgage lender, and wire fraud for conduct associated with owning and operating five illicit massage businesses that sell commercial sex under the guise of offering therapeutic massage services in California and Arizona. According to the indictment, Peter Griffin, 78, Kyung Sook Hernandez, 58, Yu Hong Tan, 56, and a fourth defendant indicted under seal owned and operated the illicit massage businesses at various times between 2013 and August 2022. Their criminal scheme allegedly included using cell phones, the internet, and banking channels to register their businesses, advertise commercial sexual services online, employ multiple women to perform commercial sexual services in the businesses, manage the illicit businesses' finances, and profit from the illegal enterprises. Griffin, who is a retired police officer and former attorney, previously worked as a detective with the Vice Operations Unit of the San Diego Police Department, a unit tasked with dismantling the very businesses he now stands charged with operating and promoting. Griffin was arrested near his San Diego residence early yesterday morning and made his initial appearance in federal court today. Hernandez and Tan were also taken into custody Thursday and appeared in federal court today. A fourth defendant remains at large. If convicted, the defendants face up to five years in prison for conspiracy to commit ITAR and committing ITAR; up to 30 years in prison for wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and making a false statement to a mortgage lender; and up to 10 years in prison for money laundering, as well as monetary penalties, and a period of supervised release and restitution. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Polite, Jr. of the Justice Department's Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Randy S. Grossman for the Southern District of California, and Special Agent in Charge Chad A. Plantz of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) San Diego Field Office made the announcement. Our reaction to these atrocities can cloud our judgment, biasing us in favor of war. The benefits of war—including avenging those who have suffered—are made vivid, but the costs of war remain abstract and statistical. We see this same bias reflected in our criminal-justice system. The outrage that comes from empathy drives some of our most powerful punitive desires. It’s not an accident that so many statutes are named for dead girls—as in Megan’s Law, Jessica’s Law, and Caylee’s Law—and no surprise that there is now enthusiasm for “Kate’s Law.” The high incarceration rate in the United States, and our continued enthusiasm for the death penalty, is in part the product of fear and anger, but is also driven by the consumption of detailed stories of victims’ suffering.

tbh the casey anthony trial is actually a great example of the american legal/justice/carceral system being too cut throat to allow for actual justice and progress because she could’ve been punished accordingly had the prosecution not wanted to go for a first degree murder charge when it was never proven she intended to kill caylee and yeah the jury did not feel comfortable with that
