alright, so there was an emergency exploratory and a dental needing more extractions than anticipated, so my appt got bumped and booted. since i was dressed with nowhere to go after sitting around all morning, i took bubba on a field trip.

he's awful in the car, and definitely needs more exposure to general/basic car trips

so we went to get gas, popped into two pet stores, and swung by the park on the way home.

a lot of overexcited screaming, especially once we park outside the stores, but after a decade something like that might be impossible to train out of him. my parents let him get by with only the most basic of obedience training, and his socialization was sparse/minimal when he was young, not to mention he isn't very biddable for anything above basic obedience. i've been trying to get anything resembling a heel with him for y e a r s now, to no avail. only at the end of walks when he's tired out will i get a nice (somewhat focused) heel. with his hearing and eyesight fading, im glad i did his basic obedience with hand signals, and we get by well enough.

i'm definitely excited for my future dog. i look forward to building a solid foundation

but bubs had a good time and is now taking a good nap, so the goal of stimulation and socialization was achieved anyhow. we grabbed some packs of JustFoodForDogs, which we use as a topper for his kibble, some freeze-dried shrimp for his before-bed-potty-time, and four stuffed beef gullets, which are soft enough for his old man teeth and for the cats to enjoy (i have to give rowan occasional chew-to-eat options to fulfill the pica urge).
