The show has been off the air for decades now and JustFic hasn't been updated in almost as long. We were lucky it was up as long as it was, honestly.

Does anyone know who the website owner of JustFic was/is? I wonder if we can try to reach out to them and get permission to import the JustFics library to A03 so that we can preserve all the wonderful works by the many talented cangel authors that were hosted there. Death-Marked Love, a spuffy fanfic archive, did this pretty recently.

If all else fails, we can try to access our favorite fics using the Wayback Machine. If you have a direct link or bookmark to one of the fics you're looking for, you can plug it into WBM and see if it's saved like this:

I'm gonna whine for a second on the topic of Mongolia's height because yeah.

Personally I do make him tall and I really don't care that the average height of Mongolian men is like 5'5 or something. I've made him tall ever since I discovered his character and despite knowing the average height of Mongolian men isn't so tall and I've had a few people in the past kind of jump on me for doing this or be kind of snarky which 1) It's a personal headcanon that's pretty harmless like it's literally about... height 2) In my experience these same people who justify making Mongolia short because "the average height of Mongol men is XYZ" are the same people who in the same breath are like "I make Russia 6'4 ^.^" despite the fact that the average Russian male height is quite literally not that much taller than the average Mongolian male height and then use the justification "well... Russia is a big country so I make him tall." like.

Okay I use the same excuse/justfication for Mongolia, he was also once a pretty huge "country" (empire but even then, Mongolia in the modern era is still a fairly large country you could fit multiple countries within Mongolia's landmass, that's how big it is, so) so I say that the rapid growth of the Mongol Empire is what caused his height to also grow rapidly. I headcanon he had a pretty insane growth spurt during this time. If a large landmass can justify Russia being tall despite the average Russian male height not being so tall, why can it not justify Mongolia being tall for the same reasons? Why revert back to "ummm actually the average height is this-"?

Using Russia as an example because if a nation in hetalia is having their large landmass used as a justification to make them super tall as a character, it's him. Again I know everyone has different height headcanons for nations and different preferences for which characters they like tall or not but I'd actually understand if someone just admitted that their measure for how tall they make a character was based on something more arbirtary like personal preferences (which could still be based in fact, but...) then get down someone's throat for not "following the rules" in deciding a characters height but then technically they themselves don't follow the rules either.

Dany was always "Fire and Blood" - ever since Season 1

We kind of all know this at this point but I found something very interesting.

In 1x10, when Dany has Mirri Maz Dur executed, the latter is tied to her Drogo's pyre and set on fire. Mirri dies screaming (blood). The dragons were not yet born so there was no Dracarys. (justification/framing: Mirri murdered Drogo and Dany's unborn child)

In 2x10, when Dany is taken hostage alongside her dragons, the latter kill Pyat Pree (blood). Though the dragons are very young and small, Dany says "Dracarys" and Drogon sets Pyat on fire, with Rhaegal and Viserion following suit. (justification/framing: Dany and the dragons were being held hostage by Pyat Pree)

In 3x04, Dany commands "Dracarys" and Drogon sets Kraznys on fire (blood) which leads to the conquering of Astapor. Rhaegal and Viserion are not present. (justification/framing: Kraznys and Co were slavers)

In 5x05, Dany delivers one of the Nobles to Viserion and Rhaegal in response to Barristan Selmy's murder. Viserion (mind you, Viserion was the one the NK rode later on) sets the man on fire (blood) and then the dragons eat him. Drogon is not present and Dany does not say "Dracarys". (justification/framing: the Sons of the Harpy just murdered Barristan Selmy)

In 6x04, Dany has been taken by the Dothraki and she is being threatened by the Khals. The dragons are not present so she has no need to say "Dracarys" but she sets the Khals on fire and they die (blood). (justification/framing: the Khals were going to do worse to her had they lived)

In 6x09, Dany rides Drogon over Slavers' Bay towards the Masters' Fleet. On her way, Viserion and Rhaegal break out of their holding place and join them. When all three dragons are flying above a ship, Dany commands "Dracarys" and Drogon sets it aflame, killing all aboard (blood). The other two dragons join in. (justfication/framing: the Masters are attacking all of Mereen & trying to force her out)

In 7x05, Dany executes the Tarlys after the Battle of the Gold Road. She commands "Dracarys" and Drogon sets both of the men aflame (blood). The other dragons are not present. (justification/framing: neither Tarly would bend the knee to her after she defeated them in battle)

In 8x05, when Varys is executed for treason, Drogon is commanded by "Dracarys" from Dany and he sets Varys aflame (blood). The other dragons are gone at this point. (justification/framing: Varys turned on her and committed treason, after pleading with Dany not to massacre KL)

Later on in the same episode, we see Dany and Drogon take on the Greyjoy Fleet in Blackwater Bay, and then the Lannister army as well as the Gold Company. We never see or hear Dany commanding Drogon "Dracarys." (justification/framing: Euron killed Rhaegal, Cersei killed Missandei, this is the Last War who will determine who sits on the IT)

So it absolutely should have been no surprise that things would eventually lead to this (we don't see or hear Dany commanding "Dracarys", we don't see or hear her at all once the massacre begins & there is no justification/framing for this one):

They literally showed us Dany with all dragons, with Drogon solely (the dragon she was most bonded to & who represented her), without Drogon but with the other dragons, and by herself. They even showed us examples of her using the command verbally and not using the command verbally. To show us that this was always Dany. It wasn't the dragons. It wasn't the grief of losing those she loved. It wasn't bad writing (meaning this massacre not the timeline/execution of her dark turn) or an "incorrect" ending for her character. This part of her has always been there.

Just as "A dragon is not a slave" has always been about Dany herself (shown to us through some of these scenes above where Dany and/or the dragons were either locked up or she herself was being held prisoner - what frees/unleashes her/them? fire + blood), so was "fire and blood". It wasn't just the words of her house or the Targaryen legacy; it was foreshadowing for the choice she would make later on in the series. The choice that she has been itching to make for many years running but was always prevented (or talked down) from making in the name of the image of the benevolent queen and special savior she wanted to be seen as by all people.

So is it any wonder that her polar opposite as the other threat in the show represented ice & the undead (meaning the NK)? Who brought the storm with him? Not to mention that the NK (King in the very name) destroyed The Wall on a dragon; Dany (the Dragon Queen) destroyed KL on a dragon. Both wanted destruction and death but used different means of bringing that about.

It gives a whole new meaning to Dany's phrase of "Fire cannot kill a dragon", doesn't it?

It was always going to be Fire and Blood when it came to her.

Desi Girls and Generational Gifts

Yo, my brown girls in the mutuals reply if you feel me on this.

There's so many things that are gender segregated where these are boys things and these are girls things. I mean reply if you guys have also seen in like family functions when there's a bunch of relatives/ family friends there'll be like one corner for the men, once corner (usually in the kitchen/near the dining area) for the women and the children will be in their own corner. I don't know how often that is but it's what I've observed. Rb if you see the same.

Its a bit fucked up how like the women are always expected to serve and like prepare like snacks. Coffee illati tea eduthukunu vaa nu solluvaanga (bring coffee or tea they'd say) in my family to the women. Now this isn't just the hosts, but the guests invited would also step in and go into the kitchen to prepare.

Now I've always felt like nah it's not that bad I mean my parents let me, a girl not do any of those things and continue talking in like the "men's corner" with my brother and the uncles. And then when I went back recently, I realized I only had that experience because I wasn't a "woman" yet. This last month was the first time I'd went back home since Covid so I'm now an adult. And it was completely different.

Being a girl vs a woman in tamil/indian society is nuts. The expectations flip so hard. Stuff I got away with a few years before got me yelled at now. Talk softer, Don't be so rough when you walk, Come and help with the serving etc etc. And it annoyed me so much having to perform traditional indian femininity in front of the men and I was resentful of how my grandmother and aunts and mum would do it without even realizing how fake it felt. It distanced me from them.

I don't know but at a point, I got tired of arguing. I went with it and started acting "traditionally." Fucked up, but I discovered something i actually liked.

After the men would all leave and it was just the women in the house. The conversation changed. It felt freer. The aunties and grandmothers started gossiping and advising the younger women. It felt like I'd stepped through a secret garden with knowledge being instilled in the middle of pressure cooker whistles. The topics ranged from maintaining a household, to marriage in the modern day all the way to grief and loss. I heard nuanced takes of division of labour in marriages, even though some of my aunties had more "archaical" ideas it made sense. It was love in the way they were taught to express it.

An example was when my grandmother and another aunty talked about the grief of losing a husband and how detrimental it was after you ended up having built an identity and been their caretaker for so long. They then compared it to having a husband lose a wife and not able to remarry, which they said was worse. At first I was close to dismissing them becuase I thought this was another one of "oh no , men need women. We have to care for them and be their moms etc." It wasn't though. I mean yeah parts of it were oh look they can't cook they need us. But it mainly circled around the fact that women have social circles where talking about these things are normal. Men don't because of traditional aspects of "masculinity" or in their words, "because he is a man", they can't express these things with their friends. I'll be real, I didn't think they'd pinpoint the issue of setting up men to be emotionally closed off as a justfication. It made me rethink marriage though, and the reason why women are seen as like pillars in marriages.

There was something special in those hours. Something more raw, real. I don't know. Being a brown girl has so many issues with our community and traditions, but sometimes. If I look hard enough, it feels like I'm part of the women that made me. Their struggles generationally passed down to me. But not just the struggles, their gifts of traditional feminity like being emotional. There is logic in the most illogical of their issues.

(as a very gay trans guy myself, i think a lot about my favorite characters in the context of LGBTQ+ experiences and connect them with my own. so have some self-indulgent and probably ooc conversation between dylan and kaitlyn)

Dylan and Kaitlyn kept in touch long after the events of their final day at Hackett's Quarry. As Dylan had put it, fighting off a werewolf with a car will really bring people together. They both made time between their respective college classes to call each other regularly, sometimes seeking much-needed support from their shared trauma, but mostly just to shoot the shit and talk about daily life. During one of these calls, Dylan got set off on an excited rant about the soundtrack from the current box-office hit.

"--And it's easily the best score I've heard this year. I mean, yeah, the plot was good, but..."

"My girlfriend loves that damn movie. She made me watch it in theaters with her twice."

Okay, I finished reading it just in case it pulled a fast one and decided to nOT be weird about a man being violently attacked for coming out and... it didn't. Not really.

Before my reveal and review, I will say thank you for rec. I'm not super into horror, which is odd because I want to watch Nope and I'm reading They Only Good Indians, but horror tends to leave me anxious for a loooooooong time (like nightmares for months) and so I'm really picky about my exceptions. This does look fairly promising but it looks like it's ongoing, so I might have to wait it out til it completes and see how it weighs on my "worth the potentil psychological damage" scale. Which is a very arbitrary scale, tbh. Like I went to It Part 2 on my birthday... deeply regretted it, do not know why that happened.

Anyways, it was Ao no Flag/Blue Flag.

And I am gonna preempt any "Well, obviously this coming" comments with... I remember people bitching about this manga as it was coming out but didn't ever read the complaints but then I remember everyone being like "Oh, but the last chapter tho" and so when I saw it at the library, I was got nosy and wanted to know what the deal was. I wanted lighter fare to read. Thought awkward teenagers being awkward would be that.

But it was just some of the most muddled fucking nonsense????

Genuinely just... incomprehensible at times. And like even after I finished with the volumes I took out from the library, I was reading scans of official translations so.....

A character whose entire arc was about trying to date boys because she couldn't get over her crush on her female friend just gets lectured for being "wrong" to think of herself as different from her straight peers and then magically is bisexual and married to a man in the epilogue?? Which like... is not a win for bisexuals... like... the vibes are rank (also, there's a vague implication her husband is trans, which... with how her plot was handled... has its own transphobic implications I could easily get into)

Gay kid confesses and gets punched out by his friend and the justfication is the friend was molested by a man?? And also the friend objectifies women so much he can't imagine a gay man not objectifying him the same way?? And then he apologies, says you're my exception for homophobia, and they move on?????????? As FRIENDS?

Which like... sure... maybe?? But when the homophobic friend is lectured for being VIOLENTLY HOMOPHOBIC by their other friends, another friend swoops in and is like "Actually, you're being just as hateful for not trying to understand why he hates gay people" and like... tht is treated like the final word on the topic

And then the rest of the manga focuses on the main character continuing to date his gf, not addressing his gay friends confession, anad then the second to last chapter is "It's okay, we can still be friends"

AND THEN THE EPILOGUE... THEY'RE GAY AND TOGETHER? HUH? MARRIED????????

I understand part of the intentions--about how everyone has their own perspective and hang ups. And about the messiness of being a teenager and confronting expectations.

But like... there's this entire sideplot where this girl is harassed by a dude with a crush on her (the homophobe) and the resolution is just... ? Nowhere. What did it add?????????

It's very weird for like... half fthe manga it was doing pretty well?

But then entire chapters just turned into people ranting about... nothing? And everything...

And then just rushed the resolution and then timeskipped to "Everyone is married and happy now. Also, main lead is into his gay friend... the last interaction they had before this hcapter was the friend being rejected."

I can't figure out who this manga was for...................... and what it was really trying to say.

What a fucking disaster but at least I read the entire thing in one day. Like... in 15 minutes it will be a new day and I will not have to read more of this. It's just done.

I've seen some justfications as to Clout doing The Sreng Thing, but it NEEDS to be stressed that making Claude do anything akin to what Clout does REQUIRES Claude to throw away his morals and ambitions - bascially THE core of his character. It's not negotiable. And I honestly don't get why people are okay with that FOR his character in any case; why would anyone WANT Claude to do this?

I have a very vague sense of deja vu. Why are we bending over backwards trying to defend this.

The facts are as follows:

Claude wants to pluck out from the Kingdom the Central Church by the roots. He believes this will end the war.

Less important, but he's wrong, because the Central Church was never the sole goal. All he's doing is making Edelgard's war easier, but that's not the point of this.

To pry out the Central Church, he has to spread Kingdom forces thin so his invasion goes as undisturbed as possible

He does this by sending Almyran ships, whose craftsmanship are so robust as to draw the attention of wisened Rodrigue and his duke son, to incite Sreng into engaging their troops.

Claude and his troops invade Fraldarius, making for Fhirdiad. People unequivocally die, whether from Faerghus or Sreng.

And this is all because Claude couldn't write Dimitri a damn letter saying "Hey, can we talk? We might be able to find a way to end this war." How is this good by any stretch of the imagination? It makes no sense and it's outright cruel, if only because Claude does this all while comparing the danger he's in to the danger he's forced the people of Faerghus into. It's insane. I don't think I can seriously tolerate anyone who tries to defend this decision, either from within the narrative or outside it, and the fact that people are is . . . well, not distressing, but a little concerning.

Phantom Chloé: Now that Vlad has somewhat chilled out, how often are there situations where team Phantom decide to "break into" his place to just... use some of his shit?

Does Chloé participate/lead some of those expeditions?

Did, or will, Chloé catch onto the fact that Vlad was basically local Hawkmoth equivalent before said "chilling out" happened?

Well I did imply that Danny, or the other Fentons sometimes would be in Vlad's lab

Danny and friends might break in just to bother Vlad sometimes but tbh he's at the Fenton house nearly as often.

Danny's justfication is that he only knows two rich people with literal home theatres, and even when Vlad was a villain it was easier to break in and use his shit than it was to use the stuff at Sam's house.

As for Chloé finding out, she kinda vaguely knows that Vlad was evil for a while? She doesn't entirely know the details of what happend, but Danny and Elle both made comments on it. But as someone who was an asshole before(though not to that extent), Chloé isn't going to judge his past actions. Just how he's doing now.
