OC Inspiration Meme!

First of all, thanks @lynxfrost13 for the tag, because finally I have a reason to talk about the origins my characters, SPECIALLY Sasha and Powder. Because I can't talk about their inspirations without bringing up the fact that they're wildly different from their first iterations.

(Warning: lots of yapping, potentially long, Also, I added songs and animals because personally they're a bigger inspirartion for me than existing characters).

When I said Powder was a loser, I man a legitimate, actual certified girlfailure (current Powder at the very least is competent at her job), who kept her cool composture until she mets in the mines with this particular unnamed mynah and cries in her arms. That's it.

...ok she's still like that, but now she has more nuance, I think.

Like, she keeps up an cool and overconfident facade, it's quick to make bad choices, and being aloof when things go wrong (like Morganite from hnk and the song "Nothing Man"), but it comes from a place of worthlessnes and wanting to be useful for the others (Powder from Arcane, which YEAH I stole her name, NO the bangs are a coincidence that I'm just noticing I swear-).

She's like a dog, but those "scary dogs" that area actually quite playful or Police dogs that fail their training (I visualize her as a doberman with cropped ears but an long tail, to be specific), and most of her character can be summarized with the songs "Fighter" and "Two Time".

Sasha came to be because one day I asked to myself: "What if a MNHR unit was a total party animal and loved drinking?" And then I came up with this silly, but also very messed up story for her (which is why DRHDR is listed as an inspiration).

A Mynah got decomissioned, survived, and it's found by this pair of gestalts that have a shady bussiness selling metals and other usable stuff from scrapped/stolen goods. They go "HELL YEAH FREE MANPOWER!!" and kinda adopt her. Eventually she starts trusting them, opens up and develops the personality of a loud but well meaning teeneager with dark humor, who also does a bit of organ harvesting (because, well, "scrapped goods" also includes other decomissiones replikas...)

Nowadays she's waaay more chill (like, literally none of the previous characterization applies anymore) and her arc is more about grieving your past self in face of new discoveries that shatter your previous beliefs, as well as figuring out your identity with being "reborn" into someone new (Inspired by Phosphophyllite from hnk as well as the song "Still Feel" by Half Alive).

Bottom left is a double feature, both for the lyrics of "The Unknowing" (in a way that she tries to move on with her life, but she feels haunted by memories from her gestalt donor and the implications of such); as well as the cover art. She's pretty much like a cat, but those that are shy and hide behind furniture until strangers leave, so it takes time to gain their trust, similarly to how she keeps most people at arm's length.

people love to hate on the shitty reward for finding 900 krogs in botw but i swear if in totk there are 900 of something to collect with the greatest reward ever im gonna be mad as hell bc then i actually have to care about it

literally the best things about the amount of krogs is that you dont need to actively search for them to get enough to upgrade all your inventory slots and that there is not great reward for it besides that bc i dont feel pressured to go and grind finding them all, potentially ruining the game for me, and instead can just do it when im bored, just like maronus says to you, you can go and try finding them all if you are bored, its not exactly promising much

(i get that if you dont know the reward you feel disappointed getting it, and that yes, literal shit is a little ... on the nose, but id partially blame that on games relying a little too much on physical rewards for everything, which is why i like the taburasa quest alot bc building up a whole town is way cooler than idk, money? the fact that it counts into 100% for the game tho is, while logical, a bit over the top, 100% runs are pretty popular after all and they should have taken that into consideration perhaps)

(examples: AI vocal synths that rely on paid voice work from a voice provider who was hired specifically for the project, specialized digital brushes that dynamically replicate real-life mediums like watercolor or gouache, etc...)

AI that depends on continuous rampant theft to function? made with the intent of replacing artists or eliminating the need for any amount of technical skill?? AND has widespread environmental impact??? i am legitimately beating you to death with hammers.

i totally get that. i think her posting with starbucks and thinking it’s cute was incredibly tone deaf. lots of celebrities/influencers do not take accountability and delete the ppl rightfully calling them out instead (again i haven’t seen her delete stuff bc i don’t keep up w her comments but other ppl have said she is, tho idk). it’s gross! trust me i didn’t forget lol, i wish they were speaking up abt the genocide and using their platform. i do think ppl on the internet forget things like that when it is convenient for them, sadly

It’s so fucking weird to me how many techbros don’t actually know how AI art generation works. And when faced with the reality of how AI art generation works, all they can say is “NO IT DOESN’T WORK LIKE THAT”

I actually 100% know for a fact that AI art generation works exactly like I’ve said it does. I have repeatedly asked techbros to tell me how they think it works if it doesn’t work how i’ve stated, and they can only answer “not like that!”

What I’ve done is taken the information out there with all the big words and made it so people can understand it. That’s it. I’m not giving the world novel concepts. I’m telling you how computers work. I’m telling you that computers can’t make something from nothing. I’m explaining averaging in a way everyone can understand. 

How do you actually think it works, guys? Like. Are there actually people out there that believe a computer currently has the ability to just. Come up with an image without already possessing the image as a reference? This just blows my mind.

Computers have parameters. They cannot operate outside the boundaries of those parameters. They can’t think and reason their way into excusing you from art theft.

i think a lot of people (especially those who haven’t read the books) are underestimating Hades

yes, he presents as the sassy queer uncle who’s done with his family’s drama, but he’s not “just some guy”

when his Helm is stolen, no one knows about it. he uses his own resources and orchestrates a plan to bring Percy to the underworld alive, all while managing an entire freaking kingdom

he doesn’t threaten war because he doesn’t have to and he knows it. unlike Zeus, he keeps a level head and thinks about the situation logically

think about Percy’s priorities throughout the show, look at what the flashbacks are teaching us about him and his relationship with others. think logically. this is a 12 year old kid who grew up with a single mom and no friends

his priority is his mom, it’s always been his mom and Hades knows that. Percy’s worst fear is losing his mother and Hades uses that against him

he takes Sally before Poseidon claims Percy because he has eyes everywhere. he already knew who Percy was and he already had a plan formed before Percy even set foot in camp

when he greets Percy and Grover he isn’t surprised, relieved, or agitated because he planned this. he knew that Percy would come to him whether by force or by his own choice (for my book readers, think about this in comparison to how Zeus reacts to the situation. Zeus comes off as desperate and angry, whereas Hades is at ease. annoyed, sure, but never panicked)

when he offers them pomegranate juice it’s in the guise of politeness and humour but it has an underlying meaning. Percy knows the stories about Hades and Hades knows that he knows. the pomegranate juice is a reminder, it’s Hades demonstrating his power without outright threatening Percy. it’s him going “I can make something as small as a pomegranate seed into a weapon” it’s him asserting his dominance and control over the situation

he leads them to a seating area clearly made for their arrival. another reminder that he knew they were coming and Sally stands, frozen in the middle of it as a reminder of what they have to lose

when he learns that it’s Kronos behind the robberies he immediately offers sanctuary to Percy, Grover, and his mom. Kronos, the king of titans, the father of all Gods, and a being who could once tear the world in two with the snap of his fingers, wants Percy, and Hades offers to protect him because he’s that powerful

so yes, Hades makes dad jokes and he talks in a way you wouldn’t expect an all-powerful being to talk, but he isn’t “just some guy”

he’s powerful, he knows it, and he shows just enough of that power to absolutely terrify Percy
