A possible thought for how Aphrodite should be portrayed in the series. Bc honestly, I want her to have a little more depth-character wise then just a pretty little afterthought that is kinda shallow. (I love the idea of multiple actresses playing her, that thought is gorgeous.)
I want her to be a fan girl. A book fanatic.
It’s been confirmed that Aphrodite reads steamy romance novels (see Percy Jackson’s guide to Greek gods) and it’s been confirmed she likes making people’s love lives interesting. (See her conversation with Percy in Book three and I think her conversation with Annabeth, piper and hazel in I think Mark of Athena?)
I want to see her giggling as she bothers Athena about characters in a book that Athena recommended to her, completely missing the themes and telling Athena about her favorite ships. ( Athena massaging her temples)
I wanna see Aphrodite kicking her feet and squealing when she makes someone use an “who did this to you.”
I wanna see her wearing band merch and going to concerts, dancing and singing along to the music, being the literal manifestation of love in the crowd, for the band, for the fans, all of it.
I wanna see her roll her eyes at other people’s ships and purposefully tank them just because she absolutely hates the idea of it, and then change her mind a week later.
I wanna see her inspire fan artists to do ship art because god she loves this ship and Athena won’t weave her an image of them for her, and then hold it close to her chest and dance around the room—no matter the skill level of the artist.
I wanna see Ares be like doing matinence on his Harley and Aphrodite bouncing up to him asking if he will recreate this scene she read about, and when she’s done describing it—the two of them scrambling off to go be intimate.
Idk, I wanna see the goddess of love, be love you know? I want her to have an actual: “most people assume I’m shallow, and that my kids are too. I guess that’s true in a way. I know what they think of me: and I don’t care. I’m happy, just the way I am and I think that offends them.” I want her to have an actual character outside of just “mmm I’m pretty goddess has little to no personality other then being pretty.”—because that is misogynistic.
And I know that I’m not gonna get all those scenes, I’m very aware of that—but that is the energy I want Aphrodite to have.

Understanding Morally Gray Characters in Storytelling
Definition and Core Characteristics:
Complex and Ambiguous Morality: Morally gray characters exhibit traits and make decisions that do not fit neatly into the categories of 'good' or 'evil'. Their actions and motivations often blend aspects of both.
Humanized Flaws: They possess human flaws, which make their actions and decisions relatable and believable. These flaws often drive their complex behavior.
Realistic Motivations: Their motivations are multifaceted and realistic, often stemming from personal experiences, traumas, or societal pressures.
Importance in Storytelling:
Adds Depth: These characters add depth and richness to the narrative, providing a more nuanced and realistic portrayal of human nature.
Creates Tension and Conflict: Their unpredictability and complex morality create tension and conflict, driving the plot and engaging the audience.
Reflects Real Life: By portraying characters with both good and bad qualities, stories can reflect the complexity of real-life moral decisions.
Examples and Their Impact:
Walter White from Breaking Bad: Initially a high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with cancer, Walter turns to manufacturing methamphetamine to secure his family’s future. His descent into criminality and moral compromise makes him a quintessential morally gray character.
Severus Snape from Harry Potter: Snape’s actions and allegiances are ambiguous throughout much of the series. His ultimate loyalty and sacrifices reveal a deeply complex character motivated by love and regret.
Creating a Morally Gray Character:
Blend Virtues and Vices: Give your character a mix of admirable qualities and significant flaws. This balance helps create a sense of realism.
Motivations Over Actions: Focus on the character’s motivations rather than just their actions. Understand why they make certain decisions, even if those decisions are morally questionable.
Consequences and Growth: Show the consequences of their actions and allow for character growth or regression. This evolution keeps the character dynamic and engaging.
Impact on the Audience:
Empathy and Engagement: Morally gray characters can evoke empathy from the audience, as they see parts of themselves in the character’s struggles and decisions.
Moral Reflection: These characters prompt audiences to reflect on their own moral beliefs and the complexities of right and wrong.
Discussion and Debate: The ambiguous nature of morally gray characters often sparks discussion and debate, making stories more engaging and thought-provoking.
By understanding and effectively using morally gray characters, storytellers can craft richer, more engaging narratives that resonate deeply with their audience.

A (Negative) Analysis of Tom Taylor's Nightwing Run - Introduction
Introduction Who is Dick Grayson? What Went Wrong? Dick's Characterization What Went Wrong? Barbara Gordon What Went Wrong? Bludhaven (Part 1, Part 2) What Went Wrong? Melinda Lin Grayson What Went Wrong? Bea Bennett What Went Wrong? Villains Conclusion Bibliography
I want to start this essay by admitting I’m actually embarrassed by its length. Why did I spend so much time on something I dislike? The truth is, I did not begin this with the intention of creating such an extensive, formal study of the Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’s Nightwing run and how it reflects the wider problems with DC’s handling of one of their most iconic characters. I was just trying to organize the thoughts that came up during discussions with other Dick Grayson fans. Before I knew it, I had enough material, enough desire to challenge myself, and enough frustrations to vent to properly create this monstrosity.
I did not begin this Nightwing run determined to hate it. In fact, I was ready to love it. As Taylor promoted the run before the first issue was officially released, I was so excited for it. As I read short interviews where he discussed Heartless, I could not wait to have a new, incredible villain. Foolishly, I believed Taylor when he said he loved Dick Grayson.
Needless to say, I was disappointed. Then frustrated. Then angry. The beginning of any story is a period where writer and reader form an indirect bond, and as the story progresses, so do the highs and the lows of said relationship. As such, a reader’s tolerance for negative factors will either increase or decrease depending on their experience up until that point.
In other words, if the writer fails to earn the reader’s trust and instead takes their attention for granted, even seemingly insignificant details become irritating in a way they would not be if presented in a better story. In such scenarios, the reader can no longer overlook those minor moments because there’s little good to balance them out with. It is a death by a thousand cuts.
In the case of Taylor and Redondo’s run, along with those thousand cuts are also broken bones, internal bleeding, head trauma, and severed limbs. A weak plot, simplistic morality that undermines the story’s stated themes, and, most importantly, a careless disregard for Dick Grayson and everything he stands for utterly destroyed my enjoyment of this series.
It is still too early to tell what sort of impact Taylor’s (as of time of writing, still unfinished) run will have on Dick Grayson’s future portrayals. But just because we cannot predict its long term significance, it does not mean we cannot critique it. Currently, we simply lack the benefit of hindsight.
If this essay were to have a thesis, then it is this: Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’s Nightwing not only fails to tell a compelling Nightwing story, but it also exemplifies a cynical, self-serving, and shallow approach to storytelling that prioritizes creating hollow viral moments to boost the creators’ own online popularity over crafting a good story, honoring the character in their care, and respecting his fans – fans who have, historically, often been women, queer folk, and other individuals who felt othered by a cisheteronormative patriarchal society. Taylor and Redondo’s thoughtless and superficial narrative not only undermine the socially progressive ideals they supposedly care for by propagating a cisheteronormative patriarchal worldview, but they also demonstrate a lack of love and understanding for the character in their care. At best, Taylor and Redondo have no interest in getting to know Dick Grayson, nor any respect for their predecessor and their contributions to this character. At worst, they despise Dick so much that they wish to reinvent him into something completely different, tossing away everything that was special to his fans in order to appeal to a readership that never cared about Dick Grayson.
I structured this essay so that, hopefully, each part will build on the ones that came prior. Naturally, because all aspects of a story are interlaced, there will be overlaps between each of the sections. As it may have become obvious from this introduction, I’ll be focusing primarily on the writing of this run. That is not to say that I will not address the art, but writing is the field I know most about, and so it feels only fair to focus my critique on that.
I hope that by the end of this essay, I will have successfully proved that this run’s mishandling of different narrative elements betray a cynical appropriation of progressive ideology and a disregard and disinterest in what makes Dick Grayson so special to so many people. This is an attitude that is present within DC Comics’ current ethos as a whole.
Now, who is this essay for? Honestly, it’s probably not for Tom Taylor fans. I do not believe I’ll be persuading anyone with my writing, and, to be quite honest, neither would I say I wish to do so. Taylor and Redondo’s run has won numerous awards and has many dedicated fans who adore it for what it is. If that is you, then I’m glad. I wish I could be among your numbers. I wish more than anything that I could love this story. But I do not, and I know many others agree with me, and it is to them, I think, that I’m speaking to. As Taylor’s run is praised to heaven and back, I needed a safe space to voice my thoughts. This essay became this safe space. And to others who also feel unseen by the constant praise this run is getting, I think this could speak to you, as well. To be cliche and cringe, this will hopefully let you know that you are not alone.
Finally, I want to acknowledge some people whose thoughts greatly contributed to the creation of this essay. For around three years now I’ve been having wonderful interactions with other Dick Grayson’s fans, and those discussions were not only incredibly fun and cathartic, but also provided great insight into what needed to be included in this essay. My best friend especially gave me a space to vent when I got frustrated, and my original outline borrowed a lot from the messages I sent her, as well as notes I took for our discussions.
I’ll also be directly quoting four different Dick Grayson fans (identified as Dick Grayson Fans A, B, and C in order to allow them to keep their anonymity). Their analyses were so critical to the formation of my thesis and for a lot of what will be addressed in this essay that I actually feel like they deserve co-credit in this essay. Dick Grayson Fan B especially deserves a shoutout in helping me track down a couple of pages used as supporting evidence, as I knew what pages I was looking for but was having a hard time remembering in which issue they were located. I’m quoting them with permission, and crediting their ideas and contributions whenever relevant.
Now, without any further ado, let’s get started.

it feels like the show is nailing certain aspects about the characters but only at the completely wrong time because Percy saying "she met a pinecone's fate"... don't get me wrong, the moment feels very true to the part of Percy that is a little shit <3 and it is funny, but it just stands in such stark contrast of his canon kindness and sympathy when he first learned of Thalia's fate that I'm just sitting here like ???
Like when Percy learns about Thalia in the book, he's very moved by her fate:
So comparing this reaction to the onscreen portrayal, its just like wild that the writers thought this was a "faithful change" lmao. Even if the line is criticizing the gods, it feels as if it comes at the expense of Percy's sincere empathy. imo the pinecone line feels much better suited to a future season where there's active animosity between Percy and Thalia, not when Percy is learning about a girl who died saving her friends.
#I edited cause I feel like I wasn't being clear enough <3#like I get he's being critical of the gods? but it still it doesn't quite hit the mark#also I am such a dick!percy truther#and this just doesn't feel right#pjo adaptation#pjo#pjo show crit#percy jackson#thalia grace

i dont think youve posted much about kabru so i was wondering what your thoughts were on him? i feel like you'd enjoy him a lot. and any opinions on labru (laios x kabru)?
i'm a kabumisu guy sorry to disappoint on that front i'm into a different kind of weirdguy yaoi. but as a character i fucking love kabru so much. he's such an incredibly good and realistic portrayal of someone with complex ptsd from an unresolved and violent traumatic event - his hypervigilance particularly stands out as both an asset and a detriment to his character; it drives him to hone his skills of observation and action, but also blinds him to the possibility that people might be capable of being kind or helpful out of the genuine goodness of their hearts with no ulterior motive. he's such a layered character, too; at first he comes across as an experienced but cocky young adventurer, then you wonder if perhaps he's an antagonistic force to laios' party and their goals, and then you realise that he does, in fact, care a great deal about the future of humanity and the safety and wellbeing of others, as much as any of the other big players in the story, and the way he expresses that has simply been shaped by his unique life experiences. kabru is very much the 'team humanity' character, but in a way that isn't eye-rollingly sanctimonious. he's the straight man (in the trope sense of the word) who has the power to influence a great deal of change and good just by being willing to know when to act to ensure those aims prevail, and when to trust someone else's judgement to see it through, which he comes to learn better as his arc and the story progresses. also, i fucking cheered when i realised that the reason he fares so poorly against the monsters of the dungeon is because he's learned how to disarm and kill other people. i LOVE a character who is fundamentally in favour of protecting human life and safety, but who also sees humanity as its own greatest threat to itself.

I got a question but I need an objective answer please. So I saw a lot of people complain about Yui being written in a very bad way in Ayato’s routes starting with More Blood and was curious if you think that she became a bad girlfriend as the story progressed?
// I will analyze Yui’s versions from Ayato’s routes and provide an answer at the end of this post.
More Blood:
Even from the first two chapters we are aware of the fact that Yui got a big crush on Ayato merely because of his looks and pleasure he gave her. At first sight, these reasons seem very superficial, but at the same time you can’t blame her completely for that. Yui went to a normal school and used to read magazines for teens, therefore it’s obvious she would have hormones and fall in love with someone who got features portrayed as the beauty standard.
It's understandable why some found her annoying, as she repeatedly cried for Ayato's love without making any real effort to earn it. Apart from giving him her blood, she didn't try to understand what he was going through, even when she noticed changes in him that made him crave so much blood.
Nevertheless, I believe that she did redeem herself in the last chapters, where she admitted being selfish and only thinking about her own desires, instead of focusing on Ayato’s struggles too. I know she paralyzed him out of jealousy and cheated on him in the bad endings, but in the good one, she’s actually a really loyal person. Yui waited years for Ayato to wake up from the coma and Ayato searched for Yui for years in his dream until he finally woke up. This ending confirmed the genuineness of their love.
In the After Story, Ayato planned to attend university for Yui's sake, aiming to get a job and buy a house. Yui helped Ayato with his studies and praised his skills. Initially, she fell for his looks, but in the After Story, she mentioned falling in love with him again because of his caring, determined, and hardworking personality.
Vandead Carnival & Lunatic Parade:
I really liked Yui in both of Ayato's routes and honestly, I can't find anything to criticize about her behavior.
It's not that Yui was a bad partner; it's just that Ayato was portrayed as too good, such as when he ran through flames for her or protected her from a bomb explosion. But that's likely because these are fan service games, where the love interests are designed to be your knights in shining armor. xD
Dark Fate:
I absolutely loved Yui’s portrayal in that route. It was the sweetest version of Yui I’ve ever seen, and I really enjoyed seeing her so happy and soft. Regarding her relationship with Ayato, he was truly the apple of her eye, lol.
The only problematic thing she did was pushing Ayato to face his abuser, Cordelia, even though he didn’t want to. I honestly don’t care if a character does something to another character, as long as it doesn’t affect them and the story, so since Ayato didn’t get mad at her for that, I didn’t mind it much either. However, from an objective point of view, I agree that doing such a thing is quite bad. Being in the presence of someone who ruined your life can trigger intense memories and forcing a confrontation removes the victim's agency in deciding how to cope with their trauma. Ayato might not have been mad at Yui for planning that, but if it had been Laito, I’m sure he would have shown why Yui was in the wrong.
Other than that, she was a kind and supportive girlfriend throughout the whole route, clearly having no ill intent, and I appreciate that she had an actual important role in the route.
Lost Eden:
Ok, I really can’t defend her anymore there. She literally had no redeeming qualities, no matter how many times she got the chance to fix herself. I discussed my thoughts about LE Yui in this post, but I’ll sum it up.
She tried to convince Ayato that despite Cordelia abusing him, she actually did it because she “cared about his future”, and then acted surprised when Ayato started feeling uncomfortable because of her words.
Yui knew the reasons behind Ayato’s behavior, yet when his brothers started mocking him, she didn’t even try to defend him. Everyone ganged up on Ayato, and he was on the verge of a panic attack, yet she remained silent.
Another terrible scene was in one of the last chapters, when Ruki admitted to turning the Vibora Clan and Church organization against Ayato out of envy, aiming to kill him. Instead of criticizing Ruki’s actions, Yui justified them and spoke ill of Ayato behind his back. I wouldn’t like to date someone who claims to love me but keeps hurting me without learning anything… It felt as if Ayato only continued being together with her because he had no one else. No wonder he didn’t marry her there.
Chaos Lineage:
I found Yui quite boring in CL in general, but she started off as determined and sweet in his route, so I liked that.
For most of the route, Yui’s entire personality seemed to revolve around Ayato, and she didn’t do much. There were many cheesy moments between them that made me cringe. Still, I’m sure a certain audience enjoyed those.
My only complaint is that when his brothers started treating Ayato unfairly, despite the fact that he came up with the idea of breaking the glass floor of the church, Yui did nothing to defend him, again.
However, I do appreciate that she gave him that adorable monologue. I just wish she had done it in front of others instead of only acting when Ayato was already insecure and sad.
Now… let’s see what kind of girlfriend Yui was in each route by judging her progress:
MB: Good
VC: Good
DF: Very good
LP: Good
LE: Very bad
CL: Decent

Laios Touden and autism; admiring the non-human
Do you think people exaggerate when they scream about Laios being autistic? Do you feel like it’s weird that so many people including autistics are so set on Laios, the problematic (but incredible and kind) king TM, being the most autistic that has ever autisticed? Why do we cheer on autistic people wanting to be monsters?? Isn’t that weird?
Well, of course it depends on the way it’s done, it can be done quite offensively, but long story short Kui blew it out of the park. The thing is, autistic people really do like monsters and animals and robots. Nonhuman does not mean subhuman, it just means Other. Feeling a connection with them has been shown to be an extremely common autistic experience for that very reason.
Because some people don’t understand why we autistic Tumblr Laios stans cheer “autism! Autism!” whenever he talks about monsters and feeling alienated to humans so! Here’s a post about how yes even research papers are analyzing the special connection we form with animals. I’m not even joking but Laios Touden & the mass cries of relatability with autistic people he gets and all the love for him could be used as study material and evidence for future papers because the link is that strong. Oh also I think it’s notable that being autistic and undiagnosed vs diagnosed makes a huge difference. In my experience as someone who was undiagnosed up until 18, it’s even more alienating to not know that there’s a reason why you’re different, being gaslit that you’re ‘normal’ and you just need to try harder and get with the program, etc. Personally when getting diagnosed I went through the 5 stages of grief because the thought of having been fundamentally different all your life (a difference which you will never be able to change) and mistreated for it when you weren’t “wrong” all along makes you unload all the anger and sadness and loneliness and sheer trauma you’ve built up over time. Like it’s world shattering.
So! Back to seeing dogs as family. Also I implore you to value experiential evidence when it comes to autism and other neurodivergences because brains are complicated and neurotypicals not being able to understand us well even with scientific research is like, a whole thing even though we’re right there speaking about how we feel and being right every time because the topic is literally us and how we experience the world.
Disclaimer for this whole post that, of course, no group is a monolith and everyone has different experiences or can diverge from the norm of the group, and that doesn’t diminish the validity of either side! Like, I know autistic people who have trauma with dogs and hate them. But, trends do happen, and in this case... Autism is very “My experiences with humans make me feel dehumanized in a bad and lonely way so instead I’ll dehumanize myself in a good and inspiring way”.
“I was treated like a failed human my entire life and you’re surprised that my response was to become a dog.” -Patricia Taxxon
It’s literally well recorded that autistic people relate to animals more than humans globally. With this post, besides spreading autistic Laios truthism and explaining why the portrayal hits so deep for so many, I want to show in what way this is a very specific experience and not looking at his character through an autistic lense really misses a lot of why he’s everything that he is. (Tacking allegedly onto here for legal reasons, different interpretations are valid etc etc /gen). This honestly isn’t super long though.
To define an important term, anthropomorphism in the studies and in this post means to attribute human traits to the nonhuman, which not only includes anthro furry designs but also animals irl, inanimate objects, and animated media as opposed to live action, to humanize them and empathize with them.
Paper: https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/aut.2019.0027
“Dogs taught me how to hunt and socialize and work in groups”, Laios having internalized body language... So real so real. I, too, make a great dog impression. And I want to emphase the part that it helps greatly develop a sense of emotions and relationships! For Laios, he didn’t get along with kids his age, it was him, Falin and the dogs against the world. Since it’s a group of dogs too, it taught him group dynamics and social hierarchies (like with Falin being considered as being below the dogs in authority according to the dogs rip), and the importance of group coordination when hunting.
For me, I cannot like, concisely explain just how much animals were important to me developmentally. I also grew up with dogs, but like I vividly remember encounters with like hamsters as well just radically shaping my understanding of boundaries, the importance of giving something space and the way you interact with them and respect their side of it. Unlike humans they don’t really mask how they feel, it’s direct cause-effect reaction and data gathering. There are no words involved, so the focus on having a perfect phrasing and tone is gone, leaving just pure interactions.
There’s also no reason to mask how you feel either, and you don’t have to feel silly over wanting to form a connection and it showing, what, is the dog gonna laugh at you because you obviously want to make friends with it? Toshiro or Kabru might, but dogs and cats will just tell you to fuck off and leave it there worst case scenario. I often say that I think one reason Marcille is special to Laios and he feels comfortable around her is because she emotes INTENSELY, she gestures, she puts her whole body into it, her facial expressions are pretty exaggerated and her ears even emote too- like with a dog’s ears!
I think there’s def also things to be said about how he gravitated towards Izutsumi at first, all excited, was eager to sleep in the same bed as her, but in the Izutsumi sleep rating chart we see they really just casual and chill so it’s not a Laios talking to Shuro deep into the night situation just a “I like sleeping besides animals” situation and that is enough to hype him up. I love how he pet her in the extra about why Chil let her sleep with him too. He’s just so transparently eager to befriend her, even if in the end they weren’t all that compatible and he accepted that.
There are honestly so many examples I could give for this. Like Grandin the famous cow lady.
More about autism & empathy:
https://www.spectrumnews.org/news/double-empathy-explained/ (Also mentions a study in which groups of autistic, allistic then a mixed group played a game of telephone and both singular groups had similar levels of information retention, but the mixed group was significantly worse. As an autistic person yeah duh, obviously autistic people are different from one another and can have plenty of interpersonal issues, but communicating with other neurodivergent people feels pretty intuitive and straightforward and comfortable. One of the reasons why neurodivergent people tend to naturally gravitate towards each other I suppose.)
^ Paper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5932358/ For good, extensive summary of why we relate to animals so much you can go to the “anthromorphizing and asd” section of the paper. This paper extends to our widespread liking of cartoons and robots as well. Ok so this is a whole thing I won’t get into here but this is a big reason why a lot of autistic people are agender leaning as well. Genders and queerness in general is a lot about social constructs, and being queer is being marginal to these, not fitting into boxes or challenging those social norms and conventions. Queerplatonic relationships are a great example of this, where the framework of the relationship is platonic but the intangible nature of what it is exactly is the point, not familial not anything but everything at once too, just adoration, I like to say having pets is a bit like it as well, bc obvi it’s not romantic and often not fully familial, very platonic but also sooo much cuddling and adoration and kissing and whatnot that you wouldn’t typically do with a friend or family member. I’ll talk about qpr and labels another day though.
I got carried away but queerness in Dunmeshi is something I 100% want to make a big post on one day. Experiencing the world with different guidelines and not registering things to have the same boxes, sigh. Personally I also relate to Laios on a gender level, “cis by default because I don’t care all that much but if I were to dig deeper I’m probably otherkin and I want to be socially associated with traits of monsters and animalistic rather than man/woman” sighh hard to be a cryptid in this day and age. I wish we had a term like furry but for monsters, I want to be in the fantasy or folk tale genre ty, like changelings. Goshh changelings... You know, the irl myth where people said their neurodivergent kids were fairies’ children instead of human. Diminished physical sense of self means I see myself as some unknowable black void aesthetic wise, but like in a way that simultaneously makes me feel seen. Like becoming a monster, losing your sense of self but also somehow just being simplified and seen for what you are, it’s weird to try and explain. This post is more about relating to the nonhuman than about seeing yourself as such, but like connect the dots right, that IS an important point of Laios’ character. It’s because our brains literally work different than allistics which makes us feel as other, but also because of social ostracization and functioning in a different way than society at large, living in the margin of society, being weird and non-conforming.
Meanwhile, animals and social norms... Like ok, showing your neck and rolling on the ground to show that you’re friendly and harmless and play biting might not be proper. But have you considered that it’s also fun and feels very intuitive. Play with a dog in the dog’s way I promise it is so nice and freeing. Play tug of war and growl back when they growl. Hiss at your cat to tell them they do something wrong, engage with them on their level.
Autism made social life hard, but it made animals easy. Do you have anyyy idea how good it feels to mask all day every day and feel constantly misunderstood or like you’re doing a performance but then you can just, drop all of that in the company of animals and they understand you. They understand you. You form an understanding and rapport so easily.
And this whole thing with Laios is so explicit too, with the Winged Lion saying “You’re sick and tired of the human world”. Notice the choice of words. Sick and tired of the human world. Exhausted from the constraints, sick of the mind games. It really isn’t as much about loving monsters as it is about loving the nonhuman. Relating to them because you feel that you can actually understand how they work and think, and feeling like they could understand you back as well. Animals are safe.
Like I could go on about how Laios admiring even just demi-humans like orcs is because they’re socially seen as non-humans more than any true physical thing, that they’re not bound by human society and its rules and live with their own lifestyle. But it would deal myself 1000 points of psychic damage and I am not ready to cry today. It’s idealization 100%, and like, Laios DOES want to be treated as human, to be valued, but it feels like an unreachable thing meanwhile becoming a monster is instant gratification and freedom and a sense that now no one will be able to hurt you in a way that reaches you, never again shall you be defenseless, and then if people dehumanize you then that only strengthens your sense of identity as a monster and UGHH ugh ugh.
And like. This post is a mess at this point but if you want to kinda delve into the more “why” then I recommend this Patricia Taxxon video essay. It starts out on a very different topic, but it’s all about autism and finding comfort in the inhuman. Long story short is othering made us like this also animals are just simpler to intuitively get along with.
So when I post this
I mean it. I really mean it when I say he’s me. I have never felt so seen. So many conflicting emotions all wrapped so concisely yet so intangibly woven into the whole storyline so subtly.
Not being depicted as a monster of an human being for feeling/having felt that way?? The manga understands you. The world can understand you. Other humans can understand you. You can bond with them. You can. And I think that’s a big part of Dungeon Meshi too- Laios opening up to others about how he really is and his interests, and all the bumps on the way but how it was the only way to truly get to know each other and bond. With the climax being Laios confronting head on his complex with monsters and humans, and his monster-loving side and animalistic side being exactly what saves the whole world, what saves humanity. Because Laios does value his friends, does think humanity has beautiful sides to it, he wants to help it thrive and eat and become more accepting, carving out a kingdom for misfits and demi-humans. At the end of it, transforming into a monster and being free is a daydream fantasy, and the reality of it is that Laios does belong in the world as he is, and does receive and give out love.
If you enjoyed this you’ll probably like some of my other Laios analysis! Here’s an analysis of his succubus and what it says about his relationships with other humans. And here’s an analysis about his relationship with Shuro from his perspective.

So, WOTFI 2024...
[Spoilers below cut]
I'm so excited! Got my bingo card ready and my popcorn, we gotta manifest good things here.
(the following is my live reaction:)
3... 2... 1... HAPPY NEW YEAR Oh wait, wrong thing oops
happy to be here, Leggy (WE'LL SAVE YOU GUYS DON'T WORRY)
TENDER TUNNEL?! ...oh nevermind then. it's so over guys
OH Four, Mario!
this would've been such a Mar4 moment if it was still the Tender Tunnel cuz this reminds me a lot of the SMG34 tiktok kiss challenge
...wait is that... OMG IT'S TV TIME ARRANGEMENT OMG LET'S GOOOOOOOO marking this on the bingo card
the FNAF models....
"...a portrayal of my life." YES PLEASE give us more
the fact that Puzzles made a puppet of his child self just for this reenactment (i don't think he's ok guys)
oop, Leggy don't drop the child!
"Papa" gives so many flashbacks to other characters who call their abusive father "papa" (me, an Ace Attorney fan)
hold up, I need to talk about this for a bit. I know it may seem like random graffiti, but because it has gears and such, his future might've been set in stone. To become TV.
"I locked myself in my room and watched TV all day!" and no one checked up on him? Did he stay in that room all the way to adulthood?! Okay, the SMG4 universe has a different way of how time and body necessities work. But hunger and time are still things. The implications are kinda of messed up if you think about it: Mr Puzzles stayed in his room for YEARS without food or even sleep, watching everything on TV. He would've been a CORPSE by adulthood. No wonder Mr Puzzles has a thin waist.
"And the rest is history." No, Puzzles, you can leave us like this! I need more! What happened after he cut off his head, did he replace every limb of himself? What happened to his dad?
Well, we got more of his backstory ig, marking that for the bingo card
WOAH I knew Mr Puzzles swore before but DAMN
I might have to mark "Grudge against Four" box but we'll see
NEW OUTFITS OMG THAT GETS A MARKER
"We'll just have to go along with his twisted games for now." Hell yeah, you gotta be part of WOTFI, boys :)
AY SPECTACULAR TITLE CARD, LOVE THE ART
Blast-off Fire
this reminds me of Toy Story for some reason
C'mon guys, you can do it!
What's your idea, Mario? NO FOUR let him talk
WOW I LOVE [*ragdolls*]
OH IT WORKED
Insult-2-Dunk
OH the frame of what the challenge says has the 5 stars, I'm going to mark that
This is giving the hallway scene in IGBP, where Four has his thoughts on display
Yeah I'm going to count that as an IGBP reference
they really are boyfriends 💙💜 gay people do be sitting
really tempted to mark the "You Saved Me" box but I'll wait
That's... actually sad if all the negative thoughts SMG4 had in IGBP came from the YT comments. Not surprising but it makes sense why he would try to keep everyone happy.
"This is nothing." OH THAT'S EVEN WORSE SOMEHOW, SMG4. THE AUDIENCE IS ONE THING BUT KAREN, A CLOSE FRIEND, TOLD YOU TO KYS
idk I could just imagine Four saying a lot of horrible things to himself
DAMN MARIO
but also Four's been flirting with Three, you already know that Mario /hj
Slap Box
TARI WE'RE SORRY BUT WE HAVE TO SAVE YOU GUYS
well you did get a bit of karma for what you said earlier to Four, sorry Mario
HOLY SHIT YOU KILLED HER DUDE oop Four said it for me nvm
Ferris Wheel Frenzy
I got jump scared and thought it was my minigame lmao
"Survive"? OH, are they going to get stuck on the Wheel ride?
please 34 please 34 nooooooooooo fuck
Missed opportunity man, still pretty funny
Fire Bonanza
Wow, Bob, that trick was pretty good ngl
Did somebody say arson? :)
even I'm clapping!
Marware shippers, how are y'all feeling?
Tightrope Terror
OH just like in the trailer, right?
OOH THREE VS FOUR
...yeah, Three would win, I'm not even surprised
That's so sweet, like actually
This feels familiar... oh that's right
:)
Hey, I did say "love wins, love always wins"
And that didn't work for Leggy... but it worked on Four back then so that's nice :)
Sword Showdown
poster reference!
Can Mario even defeat Bob? and also, reference to the poster?
Oh shit Mario did the Sephiroth shot from the Smash announcement
Knife Throw
boyfriends throwing knives :)
also poster reference
"...avoid hitting our volunteers" IS IT THREE?! oh no it's just Boopkins and Tari
I WANTED A "YOU SAVED ME" MOMENT NOOOO
....blindfolded?!
FOUR DOESN'T WANT TO HURT HIS FRIENDS
So uh yeah definitely a grudge
Four, that's Gmod. THIS IS NOT THE SAME
Three's the one throwing the knives at Tari right? ...yep *sigh /aff*
Balloon Blast
*looks at Luigi's creations* ....say what now?
"Supper Mario Balloon" I... shouldn't be surprised
He kinda looks like Pedro ngl
Pie-a-Ton
HI KAREN
NOOOO MARIO'S FIRST LOVE *prowler music*
...wait, "Mario Die"? OH well, the universe is doomed lol
Touch Grass
alright then *goes outside and touches grass* we did guys!
Clowns Clowns Everywhere
Puzzles, Four has boots on and Bob has no shoes at all. Does it look like we have time to put running shoes on?
ACE ATTORNEY? IN MY SMG4 WOTFI? :D
"King of Clowns" PFFT That never gets old
What did you expect Four? You make memes for a living, become the clown
Bomb Ski Ball
What type of SAW trap is this?
OH RIGHT Karen is still a cat
Yeah Mario, you celebrated too early
Ducky Mania
poster reference(???)
Well, thanks Luigi, we're dead
BELLS (ok, it might not count cuz they used this before)
YAY FOUR GOT ONE
Free-Fall Frenzy
And of course, Three and Karen and Saiko are all using the things they are skilled at
OH SHOOT MELONY'S SWORD
GO ON MARIO DO YOUR THING! MEGGY'S BACK!! IT WORKED
NO PUZZLES WHYYYYY
Whack a Leggy
Oh I love that Mario screen reference
SWORD FIGHT SWORD FIGHT SWORD FIGHT
...goop!4..?
oh nvm, cameras. that should've been obvious *slaps face*
SMART THINKING FOUR
OH hi Puzzles
LET'S GOOOOOOOOO
DUDE I'M GONNA CRY STOPP THIS IS SO SWEET OMG
"YOU'RE RUINING EVERYTHING", welp Mario Ruins the Show confirmed, checking that off
I just love how this scene was animated (edit: it turns out that this is a scene Anaidon animated, no wonder this was so good!)
THE KEYBOARD MONSTER FROM IGBP!!! IT'S BACKKKKK
AND EYES IN GENERAL
Marker for the bingo :)
AND PARK (kinda) DESTROYED, another mark (yes it counts)
Superhero landing!
Wait... what is it, Four?
...oh I hate this *IGBP flashbacks*
AND PEACH nooooooooo
I get that it's supposed to be Didney stuff but like that's past trauma right there for Four , seeing the castle and Peach costume again *checks off the bingo*
and we're seeing it through Four's right eye *head in hands* eye of horus
It's Rap Time? IT'S RAP TIME
Carnival-themed too! Another one for bingo
"Pay for what you've done" KARMA "We'll make him pay" KARMA
(edit: it turns out Shadow animated this scene, it looks great dude great job :D)
[*points at background at 22:31*] BELL THERE IT FUCKIN IS
MORE BELLS AT 22:55
and also I realized that there was a lot of "death", huh
Doomed Yaoi(TM)
Yeah, we can count this as the Freak Show
"Puzzlevision+" ...puzzlevision 2...?
hold up, what the hell is that? NO NO WE CAN'T JUST PASS BY THAT
Huh, how interesting is that Mr Puzzles, being controlled by wires, looks like a puppet when he's the only usually puppeteering hmmm
MEGGY CONFRONTS also she tried to give Puzzles a chance when she couldn't do it for Wren
"That child is gone... Six feet under right where you and your stupid friends belong." Oh, shit. That got me somehow.
There is something in philosophy called "Ship of Theseus" that basically is: what if, gradually over time, we replace every part of a person and the question would be, are they the same person anymore. It could apply to Mr Puzzles here. Bring back to my corpse question, his child self and his current self are not the same. Not anymore. Metaphorically and perhaps literally, the real man before Mr Puzzles came to be is already dead.
Some people do say that they can be "reborn" so.... *shrugs*
SACRIFICE! No one dies but they're risking their lives here!
Meggy going into Puzzles' mind reminds me a lot of Melony getting into Zero's, except for the meeting younger self stuff
Interesting, why did Little Puzzles cower from the woman shadow figure? They could've just put Meggy there but they didn't until a few seconds later... hmmm......
Well Meggy confronts Little Puzzles but it's more like her demanding him to set her friends free, which is understandable
THE CLUB PENGUIN DANCE IS BACK!! :D
ONCE AGAIN Little Puzzles gets scared of someone coming towards him. jesus what happened for you to react like that, dude?
THIS IS ACTUALLY MAKING ME FEEL THINGS DUDE. IF MR PUZZLES DIES AND THIS IS THE LAST THING HE THINKS ABOUT.... *head in hands* THIS IS SO SAD
And more of the Engine Room gets broken down
silly little goobers :)
MR PUZZLES LIVES
and I oop [Mr Puzzles will remember that.]
....oh, this might be a fate worse than death. I don't blame the Crew for not trusting him and after what he did to Meggy but damn I don't think this is the right choice, gang
But it is probably the best ending the Team could've given him.
Yes, painting is nice. Oh, a puppy too!
"...OR we could assassinate our enemies and anyone who's ever double-crossed us!" OH NO IT'S MAKING HIM WORSE
To destroy Four and the others, yeah that makes sense. But he must've taken Meggy's confrontation as a double-cross. He's going for everyone!
Dynamic Change, everyone!
but also.... puzzlevision 2 maybe....
OH HEY CHRIS AND SWAG HI
well, the park isn't completely destroyed but some of it did so....
"Hopefully Mr Puzzles will change for the better." HMMMM I don't think so, Meggy. Actually, are they aware of where he is now?
Aw, Mario checking up on Meggy is very sweet, the M&M siblings
YOU ALL NEED THERAPY
"Turning into Leggy was really taxing on my body but...I think that version of me has escaped off to a better place." Meggy, you must've inherited Phoenix Wright's invincibility when you were a lawyer because you were literally SCREAMING IN PAIN when you were forced back into Leggy, and all you get is just a bit of a sore back?! Girl, you must've broken something. I do hope they bring this back so that she can't do sudden maneuvers or fancy tricks due to what happened to her. There has to be some consequences here.
And now, Leggy's not coming back (I'm sure that's great news for the people who find her annoying, not me tho)
and I oop 2: electric bagaloo
MORE RIDES FOR THE SHOWGROUNDS HELL YEAH
Happy ending and all but hold up... Why is this the last shot of WOTFI? They could've had the Ferris Wheel, the entrance, or any of the other rides. WHY?! *shakes the crew* ANSWER MEEEEE
Well we didn't get a challenge relating to Tender Tunnel but since it appeared in the final shot, I'll count it just for appearing (and also because it might be important later but we don't talk about that now)
Of course, MERCH
"And, who knows? Next year, there might be even more things to come..." WHEN I GET YOU
Hoodie, poster, keychain I CALLED IT
baby leggy :3
"You'll just have to wait and see." Oh I'll be waiting *wiggles fingers together like a cartoon villain*
the great milk heist of 1899 :)
.・-: ✧ :--: ✧ :-・.
Here's my bingo card:
I think it's all of it, let me know if I miss or need to change anything. Can we count all the Four & Three soulmate parallels to the "You Save Me" box? Please? *sneaks a marker on there* To those who participated, I hope you guys had fun with my bingo card!
I'm still going to cherish that Ferris Wheel chase scene from the "Welcome to Puzzle Park" episode
Well, Ben, Shadow, you got anything to say?
Ben: Well that was fun We should really do this again sometime…
GOD DAMMIT BEN NOT AGAIN/affectionate
Shadow, in voice clip: "Hello once more, Twitter and SMG4 community! As always, I'm The Inverted Shadow and yeah, War of the Fat Italians 2024 has come and gone... and uh, as it is customary with a lot of these big events with SMG4, I have things to say but this time, I'm actually not going to make a big show out of it this time like what I did for Puzzlevision and..." *clear throat* "The things that came before because I'm going to be completely honest, guys, I was really fucking nervous for this one because, um, to be completely honest, this rap battle for this WOTFI is, I can safely say, one of the hardest things I had to do when animating for SMG4 thus far. And I was really really scared and nervous about (one) if it would actually come out good and (two) if people would actually like it. But just based on the reactions from the watch party with the SMG4 team and also just seeing everybody's reactions to WOTFI this year, um.... Yeah, you guys surely showed me I still must be doing something right." *laugh* "But, no no no. In all honesty, once more, thank you all genuinely. Genuinely, thank you all once again to the SMG4 community, to Luke, to Kevin, the SMG4 team. Everybody. Thank you all so much for showing me that I apparently still got it and I can still do the thing as it were." *chuckle* "Um, I do really hope you all enjoyed WOTFI this year. For now, I need to go get me that new Mr Puzzles plushie 'cause I need it. So, genuinely thank you all again and uh, peace!
Oh, we enjoyed this year's WOTFI, SMG4 Team! As Mario would say, that was-a loads of fun! The animation, the art, the music, everything was really really good. There are a few plot tweaks here and there that need a bit of work, but otherwise, it was great! Props to everyone on the Team! I can't wait to see what you guys do next.
"Silly little meme show" Right, and it's the same people who gave us horror, I'm on to you guys. please puzzlevision 2 please goop!4
Make sure you all support them bc they deserve it :) As for what will happen to the SMG4 crew, Mr Puzzles, and the Showgrounds, we will just have to wait and see.
;)

I know that making things not only canon-compliant but canon-plausible is basically your hobby, and you tend to enjoy taking every little detail no matter how inane and incorporating it into the greater lore of your work. Have you ever had a moment where you were trying to find a logical explanation for something, realized that it was EXTREMELY STUPID, and now you just avoid writing things that will make it come up?
I think most fan writers have one piece of canon where they're like "Yeah, no, that was a bad decision, I'm just replacing [unbelievable event/racist character portrayal/blatant disregard for how mental health works in reality/etc] with [piece of fanon that makes it work better]."
Usually, even when there's an obvious author mistake, you still have a cool canon-compliant thing to do with it. Curious if there's any exceptions.
yeah, there's a few things.
Evidence implies that Ford fell in the portal in 1983. Evidence implies that the show takes place during 2012, but maaaybe 2013? The show says he fell in the portal "thirty years ago." He was probably intended to fall in the portal in 1982 but that doesn't line up with some of the dates (particularly, song release dates). Also, exactly how long did he know Bill between meeting him and getting portaled? And exactly how long was the paranoia era? My solution: the show takes place in 2012, Ford got portaled in *mumble mumble*, it's been """thirty""" years since he fell in the portal, we're NOT gonna worry about it, and maybe the Eurythmics released their albums a year earlier in the Gravity Falls universe did you ever think of that? Huh?? But at any rate I just try to quietly glide over the little timeline issues without addressing them.
Anything Bill says that would validate a real world conspiracy theory is a lie; but, much more likely, I'm just never gonna talk about it so we can ignore it completely, especially if the conspiracy theory is antisemitic or racist. "A cabal of global elites secretly rules the world and has a really cool break room"? Bill's lying; but also, we're NOT gonna talk about that, just chucking it out the window completely. "Bill helped fake the moon landing"? We can crack jokes about that one but only to establish that Bill was lying. "The Egyptians made the pyramids look like Bill"? We're NOT gonna claim the Egyptians made the PYRAMIDS for Bill, at most they might have redecorated them; but we're probably not gonna talk about them redecorating the pyramids anyway; and we're gonna crack jokes about how stupid Ancient Aliens style idiocy is; and maybe we're just gonna minimize talking about Bill's relationship with Egypt entirely.
(A side note: one thing i REALLY appreciated from TBOB is that it clearly established that they did not build the pyramids for Bill, just temporarily redecorated them; they did not worship Bill, they thought he was a pest; and the book went out of its way to have Bill say anyone who claims aliens helped with the pyramids is a con artist. It didn't have to do that! But it really improved things a LOT.)
Anything not mentioned by Bill that alludes to iffy real world conspiracy theories, we're just not gonna talk about. "America is secretly ruled by someone other than the president and nobody knows," not gonna talk about that, I don't care that it's Santa. "Dapperly-dressed reptilian aliens," not gonna talk about that, I don't care that they were here to go dog sledding. "Mt. Rushmore is secretly a bunch of robots built to defend America from a future threat," NEVER gonna talk about that, Mt. Rushmore is a carving made by a racist on stolen land sacred to several Native American peoples, it does not deserve to be made cool.
and speaking of Santa: I don't care for Jewish characters getting shoved into Christmas stories, especially if they're "wow, it turns out the Christians were right about the existence of this folkloric figure associated with one of their most important holy days" Christmas stories, so there's a high chance I'm just never gonna mention the Krampus plot lmao. If I do, it'll only be because I need to acknowledge the relationship building Ford & Fidds got. (Or to acknowledge Ford's rage at being commanded to conform to holiday expectations, which is REALLY funny and he's completely right.)
Those are the things off the top of my head.

Was your Kore/Persephone portrayal inspired by dissociative disorders? I interpreted it more as her dark internal monologue that she was suppressing. Like when you have dark thoughts of know things inherently, but try to rationalize your way out of thinking them. I figured it was just a more dramatic way of portraying intrusive thoughts.
Ahh this isn't really a question I can answer with a simple "yes" or "no". Especially when considering everything you just listed are often inherently symptoms of many interlinked mental disorders like DID and BPD haha (especially when it comes to the suppressing).
As I mentioned in my previous post I've been writing these types of characters for years. Uzuki is a big one that comes to mind. I love writing conflicts of the self, mind vs. reality, identity vs. instinct, past vs. present, etc.
CW: BLOOD/GORE, GRAPHIC VIOLENCE, DEPICTION OF TRAUMATIC BREAKDOWNS AND DISSOCIATION AHEAD!!!
(note the black and grey pages are read right to left like a manga, this was from my weeb days LOL)
It wasn't until years later after I was diagnosed with ADHD and autism that I realized my love for those tropes was rooted in something far more internal. Sure, sometimes a trope is just a trope, but now I fully understand why I've found myself pulled back to that trope time and time again, because I myself have struggled with a lot of the same internal conflicts that characters like Uzuki and Kore have struggled with. It wasn't just me loving a trope, it was me finding solidarity and representation in characters who shared my experiences, even if they were largely hypothetical or for the sake of creative expression.
That realization came long before Rekindled, of course, but it hit me like a sack of bricks when it did, as any realization of an undiagnosed disorder tends to do after years of thinking you're just "broken". That said, it's allowed me to explore these topics with even more nuance and understanding, while also pointing out my own weaknesses and blind spots in the pre-conceived notions I had about myself that I was then able to challenge once I knew what was really going on. It was still challenging as it was so personal, but it ultimately made me a stronger person and a stronger writer.
Skip to the future though with Rekindled, everything I just explained is why I was so interested in LO's AoW plotline to begin with, because a lot of it played to my own interests in those sorts of characterizations - consequently, it was one of the plotlines I wanted to overhaul the most when I started coming up with the basis for Rekindled, as I was disappointed that it was forgotten about over the course of S2 and completely retconned by the trial arc. In a weird way, it almost feels like all the time I spent working with characters like Uzuki was preparing me for a character like Kore/Persephone. And conversely, writing about Kore/Persephone has helped me harness my skills more which I can take back with me when it comes time to continue Uzuki's story.
All that said, mental disorders and neurodiversity were never "inspiration" to me when I was learning how to write and/or designing these characters, but that didn't make them any less intersectional. It was more like something that just came naturally to me as someone who is neurotypical and has diagnosed mental disorders (I am my own worst inspirations LOL) and I wanted more characters like that who weren't just automatically "villains". I try to always treat them with care to ensure that I'm being kind to both the characters as well as myself as someone who heavily relates to these experiences, but I'm also not really afraid to express the more "ugly" sides of those experiences either. Especially with characters like Uzuki who are largely problematic to their core in their actions - much of those actions, as I would learn about myself in my own healing journey as well, are often spurred on by a lack of care, empathy, and understanding in their unique struggles.
There is so much I'd love to say about Kore and Persephone's characterizations and what led them to this point, but I got about a paragraph in before realizing that it would be WAY too massive of a spoiler LOL I'm really, really excited to get into it - though nervous too - but I hope that, at the very least, readers can have patience for her as she goes through everything that's on the horizon. There are times it may get ugly, even outright bleak, but that is simply one side of the coin that represents her duality as a goddess - the dreaded Bringer of Destruction, and the merciful Goddess of Spring.

I just want to say your Paravolley AU has helped me a lot with overcoming internalized ableism, made me learn about sitting volleyball, and has also gotten me to read and watch Haikyuu again after years. I've been a volleyball person my whole life but I got a sports injury in highschool and now use a cane (and hopefully a rollator walker in the future).
Kageyama Tobio has always been my favorite character and seeing him in your AU hit me really hard. Though we don't have the same injury, I saw myself in your portrayal of him very much.
Your AU had made me re-evaluate the Haikyuu manga and anime through a disabled lense, and made me fall in love with Furudate's story all over again. Even stronger than it was before. And I adore the parallels you decided to put with your own AU.
I've since been searching up if there's sitting volleyball in my area (with little luck so far but dammit I'm going to keep looking). I'm so disappointed that it's never been brought up to me when I got injured. I'm upset that I was convinced that I'd never have a place in volleyball again. I legitimately started crying tears of joy when I learned sitting volleyball existed.
Thank you so much for your AU. I think it'll have a special place in my heart for a long time.
This is a genuinely sweet and kind-hearted message, and I have to thank you for sending it.
It means a lot that my AU brings comfort to not only myself, but other disabled people as well — the idea that my experiences, thoughts, feelings, research, etc is being put to good use to help and soothe people is more than I could ever wish to achieve or want.
I think something so important in my AU with Kageyama is that he wasn’t born disabled, he got his spinal cord injury at one of the worst points in his life, while simultaneously losing his support system (grandfather). He had no idea how to cope with becoming disabled because the people he surrounded himself with previously (MiddleSchool Volleyball Team) all turned their back on him and his drive to still want to play volleyball and feel lost without it. In turn, he turns that anger and fear and disappointment into internalized ableism, and even some outwards ableism he doesn’t even realize he needs to fix, because it’s just something most able-bodied people get told or believe. He pushes himself past his limits, hoping that he could one day be back to his old self, but that old self no longer exists, and that’s something the Karasuno Sitting Volleyball team teaches him. They teach him acceptance, support, community, etc when he didn’t even know it existed before.
I’m glad my AU can resonate with so many people, and I wish I could blab even more about it because it’s always in my head constantly, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask about it.
Furudate’s story is truly amazing, and to me, it doesn’t lose it’s charm and meaning for me as a disabled person, in fact, in makes me want to form even bigger bonds with community and other disabled people.
Thank you again for the ask, anon! It’s very sweet.
#anon#paravolley au#paravolleyball#sitting volleybal#haikyuu#au#haikyu#kageyama tobio#i hope you can find a sitting volleyball team near you soon!

TOM GLYNN-CARNEY INTERVIEWED FOR VESTAL MAGAZINE.
REFLECTING ON YOUR JOURNEY IN THE ACTING INDUSTRY, DO YOU REMEMBER THE MOMENT YOU REALIZED YOU REALIZED YOU WANTED TO PURSUE ACTING?
"The moment I realized I wanted to pursue acting was probably when I was around 12 years old, in high school."
"I was performing in a production of Shakespeare's Macbeth at the Royal Exchange in Manchester."
"I saw older actors and wondered what their "proper" jobs were outside of the theater."
'When I asked one of them, they said': — "No, this is my proper job. This is what I do."
"I didn’t know people could do that."
"From that moment on, I knew that this is what I wanted to do as a career."
YOU'VE DONE MULTIPLE SHOWS AND MOVIES IN THE DRAMATIC GENRE. WOULD YOU EVER BE OPEN TO DOING OTHER GENRES?
"Absolutely, I'd love to explore new genres in the future."
"I'd love to give comedy a go."
"I think that would be a good challenge."
"It’s difficult because timing is crucial delivering a joke at the right time can feel almost mathematical."
"But I think that good comedy actors don't see it that way at all."
"It just comes naturally to them."
"I'd love to give it a shot."
"I'm also interested in doing biopics, bringing real-life stories to life."
"Chet Baker and Gene Kelly, in particular, would be fascinating characters to portray."
"But I'm open to any interesting projects that come my way."
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THE ROLES YOU TAKE ON? ARE YOU DRAWN TO A PARTICULAR TYPE OF CHARACTER OR STORY?
"Honestly, I'm drawn to anything that makes me feel uncomfortable and pushes me out of my comfort zone."
"I seek out roles where the character feels distant and challenging."
"I like to test myself and see if I can bring such characters to life."
"If a role feels like something I might struggle with, that's exactly what I want to tackle."
"I often joke that these challenging roles might be my downfall someday." [laughs]
CAN YOU SHARE ANY INSIGHTS INTO HOW YOUR CHARACTER, AEGON II TARGARYEN, ENVOLVES IN THE UPCOMING SEASON?
"I found it fascinating to delve deeper into Aegon this season because there's so much more to uncover about him."
"In the first season, we saw quite a two-dimensional view of Aegon—not due to Ty Tennant's portrayal, which I thought was fantastic, bringing a lot of vulnerability and teenage angst to the character."
"When I took over, the time frame was too short to really explore Aegon's complexities."
"This time, I've had an extended period to sit with the character and dig into his deeper layers."
"Playing a character experiencing profound grief is always a challenge."
"I'm lucky enough that I've never gone through anything like that myself, so I had to imagine it as vividly as possible."
"This season, Aegon is shown as more of an empath than a psychopath."
"It becomes clear that he has the capacity to love, feel, and grieve."
"There are so many comparisons between Aegon and Richard II."
"People are saying Aegon is cold, calculated, and evil, and while he's certainly done horrible things—I'm not justifying any of those—it's important to note that, rather than being a straightforward villain, he's a crumbling tragedy."
HOW HAS YOUR APPROACH TO PORTRAYING AEGON II CHANGED FROM THE PREVIOUS SEASON TO THE NEW ONE?
"There’s definitely a continuation of the drama and theatricality from season one."
"It's huge, rousing, and intense."
"I've seen episodes one to four, and they are just unbelievable, especially the battle scenes — you can't get any bigger than that."
"This season, though, there’s also an element of humor."
"At some point, they called Aegon 'the Magnanimous,' and it was important to bring some levity to his character."
"Aegon has just stepped into the role of King and is trying to figure it all out."
"We're at a point where he’s found a spring in his step, enjoying this new responsibility and purpose."
"He’s also got a lot of power now."
"Power can go to people's heads and make them crazy."
"It was nice to explore his boyishness and playfulness, as it gives his character more depth and leaves room for growth."
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL PEOPLE TO GET THEM ON TEAM GREEN?
"I don’t think I need to persuade them—obviously, we’re the best."
"But if you really want to see why, this season is packed with surprises that will make it clear."
SINCE THE SHOW IS BASED ORIGINALLY ON BOOKS, IS THERE A SPECIFIC BOOK YOU'D LIKE TO SEE BROUGHT TO THE SCREEN AND FOR YOU TO BE A PART OF?
"I'd love to see a film adaptation of Douglas Stuart's book Shuggie Bain."
"Another great choice would be The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell."
"It’s a collection of beautiful and heart-wrenching short stories, and each one could make a compelling film."
"Looking at my bookshelf now, I see a lot of books on Bob Dylan, David Bowie, and Paul McCartney—mostly singer-songwriters."
"I also have a lot of poetry. I'd love to see a biopic of Patti Smith."
"That would be incredible."
YOUR CAREER HAS TAKEN YOU TO VARIOUS FILMING LOCATIONS AROUND THE WORLD. IS THERE A SPECIFIC LOCATION YOU HAVEN'T BEEN TO YET AND WOULD LOVE TO BE THE BACKDROP FOR A POTENTIAL FUTURE PROYECT?
"Oh, that's a good question."
"I think somewhere that’s a hybrid between beautiful rolling countryside and the coast."
"A place that offers both stunning landscapes and the sea."
"On your days off, you could go for a swim or hike through the mountains."
"I’d love to work in a scenic and peaceful location like that."
SOMETIMES, ACTORS WHO PLAY 'VILLAINS' CAN GET AN ADVERSE REACTION FROM SOME FANS OF A SHOW. WHAT HAVE YOUR INTERACTIONS BEEN LIKE?
"I've been very lucky."
"Many people have approached me with kind words about my portrayal of Aegon."
"It's a challenging task to humanize someone so seemingly poisonous."
"Fortunately, I haven't had negative encounters with fans who can't differentiate between the character and the actor."
"I think we're in a different phase in society now."
"When Jack Gleeson played Joffrey, there was less social media presence, making it harder for audiences to separate the actor from the character."
"Today I think we are a more technologically advanced community, with more behind-the-scenes and a better understanding of the distinction between actor and character."
"I think people have copped on. I hope that's the case, anyway."
YOU'VE COLLABORATED WITH RENOWNED DIRECTORS LIKE CHRISTOPHER NOLAN. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM THESE EXPERIENCES?
"Doing Dunkirk was my first significant experience on a film set."
"I really didn't know where to start."
"The canvas was completely blank."
"And it was just such a gift, a pinch me moment that I was able to learn from some of, if not the best filmmaker in the world."
"It was overwhelming."
"And I had to remind myself to be present and soak in everything like a sponge."
"Chris's patience and the support from the rest of the cast were invaluable throughout."
"We were all in it together, especially us young lads who were new to such a big production."
"We learned and grew together during that incredible experience."
IN THE KING, YOU PORTRAYED A HISTORICAL FIGURE. HOW DID YOU APPROACH BRINGING THIS CHARACTER TO LIFE?
"When portraying a fictional character, there's often more freedom because there's no definitive blueprint to follow—even if they're written in a book, they're still fictional."
"You can infuse your own understanding and personality into the role."
"However, there’s added pressure when it comes to a historical figure because you're portraying someone real."
"I never let that pressure overwhelm or hinder the process."
"Instead, I took the character as presented and focused on doing my best with the role."
A NEW HUNGER GAMES MOVIE WAS JUST ANNOUNCED, SPECIFICALLY A PREQUEL FOCUSING ON HAYMITCH'S STORY, AND MANY FANS ARE EAGER TO SEE YOU IN THAT ROLE. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT?
"No way, that’s the first I’ve heard of it! But I'm incredibly flattered that people would like to see me on screen again."
"If all goes well, I'll fight for my life in the Hunger Games!" [laugh]
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE SHOWS DURING YOUR DOWNTIME?
"One show I watch repeatedly, and it never gets old for me, is the UK version of The Office."
"The humor is very relatable and comforting to me."
"I even laugh just thinking about it. It's one of those TV shows when it finishes, you're like: — “Oh no! What do I do with my life? I miss the characters already.” [laugh]
"I also enjoy the US version of The Office."
"Besides that, I'm fascinated by farming documentaries."
"Shows like This Farming Life on BBC are incredibly calming for me."
"And I have to mention The Great Pottery Throwdown — I'm a bit of a pottery nerd, and that show is brilliant!
WHO ARE SOME CREATIVES YOU WOULD LOVE TO WORK WITH IN THE FUTURE?
"The list is long."
"Firstly, there are directors I'd love to collaborate with again, like Chris Nolan and Sam Mendes, with whom I've had some of my best experiences and whom I consider friends."
"I'm eager to work with them again."
"Then there are filmmakers like Andrea Arnold, Yorgos Lanthimos, Greta Gerwig, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Ruben Ostlund, all of whom I admire and would love to collaborate with."
"When it comes to actors, there are many I admire as well."
"I plan to work with individuals who challenge me, from whom I can learn, and who are dedicated to their craft."
"I appreciate those who find joy and humor in their work because life is short, and it’s important to enjoy what you do."
LASTLY, WHERE DO YOU HOPE YOUR CAREER WILL HEAD INTO THE FUTURE?
"It’s more of a feeling than a checklist of achievements that I aim for."
"I understand that feeling because I can almost sense it in advance."
"It’s difficult to articulate—it’s a mix of happiness, creative fulfillment, diversity in roles, consistent challenge, and pushing boundaries."
"I aspire to transform and lose myself in characters."
"Equally important to me is collaborating with inspiring individuals whom I can learn from and grow with."
"I also value the freedom to select projects that resonate with me personally."

Please I beg of you write more for richard winterssss therea like nothing for him ANYWHERE and us winters girls!!! like maybe a head cannon on him marrying you or him realizing that he wants to marry you ?
i've got you, anon!! he's such an interesting character to write for because he's so clearly established in the show in terms of his personality and beliefs which can be quite fun to play around with in context of requests and writing!! anywayyyyyy I hope you like these!
a/n these headcanons, as with all my writing for BoB, are based on the fictional portrayal of the characters. Headcanon requests are open, please check my rules in my pinned post to see who I’m currently writing for💞
Winters has always known that he wants to get married and I truly believe that if he was dating someone, marriage has already crossed his mind. He doesn't strike me as the type of guy to just ask someone out for fun or something casual.
But when he notices himself thinking more and more about you as his spouse in the quiet moments of the day that's when he really begins to think about marriage.
If this is pre-war, I can see him wanting to wait until he was more established in his life and had finished college. He wants to be able to provide and feel worthy of making the commitment of marrying the person he loves.
But if we're talking post war, he wants to get married ASAP, especially if you two had an established relationship prior to him going overseas or started a relationship during (ie if you were a soldier, nurse, civilian over there, etc). Time and life are precious things and he wants to spend as much of both as he can with you. As your husband.
He does talk to you about marriage before he proposes and actually probably brought up the topic a few months into dating you. Like I said above, I don't see him casually dating anyone, so he wouldn't waste his time if he doesn't know what his partner wants in marriage. Ever the planner and thinker, he wants to know where your mind and heart are at before asking you. He wants to know what you see for yourself and for him in the future.
Definitely tries to make the proposal romantic but in his usual fashion he keeps it simple. His gestures of affection aren't grand spectacles but that doesn't mean that there isn't thought or love put into them.
I can see the proposal being done after a nice dinner but in a private location or maybe during a walk around the park or somewhere in nature. Someplace that means a lot to you (or the both of you). Could be the place where you first met or maybe it's a place that you two frequent as a couple.
He's asked your friends (and you) what kind of ring you would like but the old romantic knew what ring to get you right away when he saw it. He knows your taste, so of course he knew the ring to chose. But he was glad to get the reassurance from others.
He's definitely nervous about proposing even though he's sure you'll say yes. Again, he wouldn't spring the idea of marriage onto you, so you're probably gonna know that the question is coming. The butterflies are still there though and his mind is spinning with "what ifs". He's worried he's going to drop the ring for sure.
He's your calm and collected Richard and as he gets down on one knee with the ring box, his mind is only filled with how much he loves you. He doesn't cry until you say yes and he's gotten the ring over your finger.
Now, I think Dick would prefer a small wedding if possible but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be happy with a bigger one if that was important to you (especially in regards to your culture and traditions!). If the wedding is on a bigger scale than what he would’ve chosen, he wants to take some moments away that are just for the two of you during the events of the day. Pulling you aside to just look at you and hold your hand, breathing in a moment of peace or closing his eyes during the dancing to just focus on holding you. He’s glad to have a celebration but more than anything he’s glad to have you.

Donor | Part 1.5 | Not Dad Enough
Part 1 | Part 1.5 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
Oh, no. I made a drabble... I think. LOL
Pairings: Bestie Henry Cavill x OFC
This was supposed to be just a short drabble for my fic Donor. But I guess this is too long, lol so this happened between chapters 1 and 2 and shows Henry and reader going through the first round of IUI.
I’m AO3, too as MoonDjarin ^_^
Part 1 | Part 1.5 | Part 2 | Part 3
During the week of your first IUI procedure, Henry had flown back over the weekend before, having taken a break from filming his latest project for the year. The process leading up to the insemination wasn't too time-consuming; they just needed his sample, and the whole procedure could be completed within a few hours. So, you were quite surprised when he mentioned that he had taken off for the next two weeks.
"Why? Do you have plans with your family?" you asked, racking your brain to recall any upcoming birthdays or events.
He shook his head, his expression earnest. "No, not at all. I just... I want to make sure you're alright," he replied, his eyes holding a mixture of concern and determination.
You let out a small, surprised chuckle. "You really don't have to do that, you know. Besides, what could possibly go wrong after the procedure?" you teased, though a warmth spread through you at his thoughtfulness.
He chuckled softly in response. "Honestly, I'm not entirely sure. I just want to be here, at least until you have to take the first test."
His words touched your heart, and you couldn't help but smile at his earnestness. It was in these small moments that you realized just how you lucked out on having Henry as your best friend and your future child's father. ---
As the procedure was completed, you found yourself lying on the examination table, legs up in the air as instructed, for the next 15 minutes. Henry stood by your side, holding your hand gently, his thumb tracing soothing circles on the back of your hand.
"Feeling okay?" he asked softly, concern etching his features as he looked down at you.
You gave him a reassuring smile, your fingers tightening around his. "Yeah, I'm alright. Just a little nervous, I guess."
Henry's grip on your hand tightened slightly, and he leaned in closer. "You don't have to be nervous. You got this," he said, his voice full of encouragement.
You nodded, grateful for his presence. "I know, it's just... What if it doesn't work? What if this whole process ends up being for nothing? I feel like I have wasted your time and...sperm." You grimaced at the last part and Henry laughed.
He sighed softly, his gaze never leaving yours. "Hey, there will always be another time for a next round. We can keep trying until it works, alright? But for now, let's just focus on this moment."
Your heart swelled at his words. Despite his playful demeanor, Henry's sincerity always managed to shine through, comforting you when you needed it the most. You gave him a small smile. "You're right. Thanks for being here with me, Hank... and you know, for allowing me to drag you into this."
His answering smile was soft and reassuring. "Always, Y/N."
---
After the procedure, you both returned home.
Henry suggested watching a movie to help you relax, and you settled on "Night Hunter." Despite Henry's eye roll at your choice, he acquiesced, knowing that you were set on it and not in the mood for any debates.
The film had its share of tense moments, interspersed with lighter ones that brought occasional snickers from you.
One particular scene caught your attention—Walter Marshall, the character played by Henry, was sitting on the kitchen floor with his on-screen daughter, attempting to have a heartfelt moment.
You couldn't help but chuckle dryly, cringing at the dialogue and the lack of genuine paternal energy emanating from Henry's portrayal.
"Wow," you commented, your voice laced with amusement, your gaze locked on the screen.
Henry glanced at you, his brows furrowing. "What's so amusing?"
"Come on," you chuckled, nudging him playfully. "If you're trying to show off your potential co-parenting skills, this movie isn't exactly boosting your case."
"Hey!" He gave you a playful mock-glare. "You're making fun of my acting skills. How dare you?"
"Just a little," you admitted, giving him another playful nudge.
“So mean,” he muttered, his hand moving theatrically to his chest, as if nursing a wounded heart. Sooo dramatic. You laughed.
Your gaze remained fixed on the screen. "I mean, it's just that I'm not quite getting the 'dad vibes' from you in this scene."
Henry laughed, a genuine sound that filled the room. "Fair enough. Guess I have some work to do if I want to impress as a movie dad."
You grinned, nodding in agreement. "Definitely a bit of room for improvement."
He leaned back on the couch, arm casually draped across the backrest, his eyes still on the movie. "Well, I'll consider this valuable feedback."
"I'm glad I could contribute to your acting growth," you quipped, a playful twinkle in your eye.
"Always striving for improvement," Henry replied, a hint of laughter lingering in his voice. "But in my defense, being a movie dad is a whole different ball game."
You raised an eyebrow, your tone teasing. "Oh, I see. So, you're saying real-life co-parenting would be a breeze for you?"
Henry's lips curled into a playful smile. "Well, I'd like to think I'd have a better grasp of it, but I guess there's only one way to find out."
The two of you exchanged amused glances, the easy banter between you a testament to the comfort of your friendship. As the movie continued to play, you leaned back against the couch, feeling the warmth of Henry's presence beside you.
"I guess we'll have to wait and see," you mused softly, your voice holding a touch of anticipation.
"Indeed," he agreed, his gaze briefly meeting yours before returning to the screen. And as the movie scenes unfolded, you felt yourself growing more at ease, the laughter and companionship settling any lingering nerves from the day's events.
Eventually, the familiarity of your shared space and the comfort of Henry's company began to take its toll, and you found yourself succumbing to drowsiness. Your head rested against his shoulder, a contented sigh escaping you as you closed your eyes.
He glanced down at you, a soft smile forming as he watched your peaceful expression in sleep. His heart swelled with a mix of fondness and a growing sense of longing. He carefully adjusted his position, allowing you to rest comfortably against him, his arm holding you close. As the movie continued to play in the background, he couldn't help but contemplate the possibility of a deeper connection with you, one that extended beyond the realm of co-parenting.

Arcane episode 7 initial thoughts
-OMG why won’t my internet work
-Ok it is here
-EKKO?
-Aw it’s adorable
-Aw it’s traumatized
-is he in an alternate dimension?
-Woah! Jinx without the trauma is adorable. So this is an alternate universe where the bad stuff didn’t happen? A canon fix it fic?
-IDK about the Imagine Dragons hate, this theme song is a banger.
-The song! Is this the Viktor and Jayce song?
-Is this a free Zaun?
-Not powder calling me out about my sleep schedule.
-Canon timebomb? Trouble in paradise?
-Claggor and Mylo.
-Oh that girl used to be a kinder in the other dimension. Mylo likes her.
-I hope this universe isn’t destroyed.
-Powder has a pink hair streak. Is it a Vi tribute? Is she dead? Is that the catch?
-Zaun is so much brighter here
-Heimer waiting for years is so on character.
-aw Vi is dead isn’t she. They’re gonna visit a grave huh.
-Jayce content!!!
-A lot of vomiting this episode.
-Is it the mage who gave him the gemstone, here to teach him like it’s the ghost of Christmas future? Or is it Viktor? Or both?
-called it on Vi being dead
-Does this alternate universe make it so that the only thing keeping Piltover and Zaun apart was the invention of Hextech and Avis arrest. That’s kinda lame? They weren’t this friendly before. The oppression is the character fault?
-I’m getting Fallout from the Jayce parts.
-There we get the leg injury.
-Are these the caves where Viktor met Singed?
-How did he find stuff to build a fire?
-oop he got Hexcore in his blood
-Won’t he starve, what is he eating? This is a lot to montage through.
-How long was it?
-Vi is badass
-Is he encouraging her to go crazy?
-A new generation of visionaries
-Aw they’re falling in love
-Jinx spent weeks helping them build a device and never asked what it does?
-Aw man
-Is Viktor gonna be in the orb?!
-SILCO SILCO SILCO SILCO SILCO VANCO VANCO VANCO?
-The made up in this universe? That was possible?!
-THOSE MEN ARE MARRIED
-timebomb prom. This is a fanfiction. Pure wish fulfillment. I love it.
-Are they gonna kiss? This is adorable. I love them. The almost kiss!
-THE ACTUALLY KISS
-Meanwhile jayce is fighting for his life
-Aw man, he has to leave. This was inevitable but still.
-Is the wizard someone we know? Jayce in the future? Viktor?
-Is heimerdinger leaving?
-Is heimerdinger dead? Is Ekko dead? Or is just leaving the Ekko he was inhabiting here behind?
-awww
Tbh the Jayce stuff fell flat for me. They used the most intense and non character specific trauma imaginable to turn him into a different character and put a montage over most of it.
Also the portrayal of Piltover and Zaun if there was no hextwch? It was adorable, tons of fan service. But it was also just…too perfect. The harmony defies the broken world the show started in. Hextech didn’t create the oppression Zaun experiences. Vi being alive didn’t prevent Silco and Vander from making up. I just don’t see how the changes we know happened would lead to this world.
The episode was entertaining, soul food. But in another way it was disappointing. The fact that this is Jayce’s backstory/justification was a wasted opportunity.
