This is just my opinion, okay?
But.. You know those time-travel fics where Odysseus goes back to the past? Like, right after Astynax?
I feel like if Odysseus was to tell Eurylochus and Polites everything, Eurylochus will be this close to beat the shit out of his future self.
Don鈥檛 get me wrong, I think his anger was understandable.
But you know.. Betrayal is more of a feeling that knowledge.
The past Eurylochus haven鈥檛 felt that betrayal yet. So I feel like he would be able to see the situation more logically.(Not to mention he would see Odysseus guilty and bit wary in front of him)
So imagine Odysseus, very ready to be yelled at, or even punched, surprised when Eurylochus starts to talk shit about his future self.
I think that will do wonders for his self-esteem(especially if he came back after Calypso)
Or I鈥檓 just delulu and want Odysseus to be happy with his friends

Eury lives au + Eury x Poseidon
Tumblr media
Inspired by @anerdyrat Circe! (Not really Circe is still there) Eurylochus au and @caramellcandy villain au!
TW: Mentions of amnesia and isolation
Say, Eurylochus actually survived the lightning blast and Poseidon just takes him in. Mostly to manipulate him into being on his side and go against Odysseus. Turns out, it wasn't all that hard. For the first three days, Eury was in and out of consciousness due to the lightning blast colliding with his head and body three days before.
Poseidon had his maids tend to the new lightning scars and just care for him until he woke up.
When he fully gained consciousness, he was confused as to where he was. At first, he thought he was dead, but he remembered the underworld didn't have ocean themes or dark blue marble floors and walls...gasp! It was fairly hard for Eury to move due to his body still being in aching pain. The farthest he got was outside of his new room where he was met face to face with Poseidon himself.
Eury felt as if he should be scared but...he was unsure why. His memories were a jumbled mess. Poseidon figured this when Eurylochus showed no anger towards him or that much fear. Just uncertain curiosity.
But just to be sure, he asked Eury the last thing he remembered (while seeming like a concerned god). Attempting to remember anything put strain on Eury's head...then he rembered.
Storm, lightning, a man with long brown hair and a beard...pointing at him. Then a sharp stinging ball of light hit...then nothing else. What was that man's name?
Oddy? Esseuss? Odysseus? Oh, gods that name gives him a migraine and makes him anxious. And does he feel...sorrow...when he thinks about it? This person?
So, from Poseidon's perspective...he's someone he can use (or a way to pass the time lol). Bend his memories to make him think EVERYTHING was Ody's fault (it kind of was) and make him seem more like a monster than he is.
They get to know each other for the next seven years, some of Eury's memories come back but not happy one's. Never happy one's. The only good memory or feeling he got was when a certain name came up in his hand when he saw a red curtain.
Polites.
But even that brought a horrible memory of the cyclops and his friend...well...dying. Well, the memory is still choppy, but he can put two and two together.
Of course, when Eury has traumatic memories coming back, Poseidon is there to comfort him. At first, his comfort held no real emotion or care behind it...until he genuinely started to fall for the mortal. Which he hates by the way. How the fuck did that happen?!
For the first three years he tried not to acknowledge it, to keep his distance from the mortal. But those pretty "siren" eyes, genuine curiosity, genuine kindness, personality and care from Eurylochus somehow chipped away at his ruthless and cold heart over time.
The next four years he couldn't help but get closer and be more tender and caring towards Eury. And vice versa for Eurylochus.
Poseidon stops bringing up Odysseus seeing as it only hurts Eury (and he doesn't like talking about him either). He stops bringing up anything that has to do with Eury's passed in general and focus on the present.
Eurylochus isn't at all aware of Poseidon wanting to kill Ody until after he comes back bandaged up. And only weeks after that was, he really told what happened.
Then asked to do the unthinkable
-
I would like to point out that that their relationship isn't healthy. Eury is entirely dependent on Poseidon because he needs him for everything. Food, shelter, sometimes physical movement and "human" interaction and touch.
Poseidon is aware of this and keeps him inside by telling him how horrible the world is. Why? Well, for one, he's lonely and...that's about it. He grew an attachment to Eury and therefore doesn't want to let him go.
Now, Poseidon isn't like his brother, Zeus. He's not going to force himself onto Eurylochus in any shape or form (the man is already in physical pain most of the time, why in Olympus's name would he do that?). But still, he's keeping Eurylochus isolated.
Eurylochus doesn't really believe Poseidon too much but...he's a god. He may have amnesia but he's aware that he can't go against the will of a god. So, if Poseidon wants him there...he'll stay.
The poor mortal doesn't have that much fight left in him anyway (not physically at least). Plus, Poseidon is nice to him and treats him well.
So, the au is still in development buuut if you have any questions, please send asks (I'm bored)

Omega!Odysseus not immediately attacking Eurylochus is filling my brain with serotonin-like!!!!they are brothers your honor!!!!! :) :) :) :) they make me so happy I swear-
How does their friendship/brotherhood in this au compare to their canon dynamic?
Honestly IDK if much would change, but I have a few ideas
Firstly, Eurylochus is one of the few alphas to not get mauled by his brother in heat bc he's simply willing to show Odysseus some respect. During the Trojan War when Odysseus was lost in his heat, Eurylochus had no problem dropping his sword, getting on his knees, and leaving his hands in plain view by keeping them on his lap. I know in some omegaverse iterations, this is how alphas show deference, but I also like to imagine that most alphas also find this gesture to be very emasculating. Not for Eurylochus tho, because he's not worried about being seen as "submissive" to an omega.
He's showing deference to his king and brother. (Side note- Polites & most of the soldiers from Ithaca also have no problem doing this to calm Odysseus down.)
But when heat-addled Ody finds an alpha that's not being loud and smelly for once, he gives Eurylochus a quick sniff, maybe scents him a little, and is pleased. He also finds the familiar scent of his brother to be quite comforting & since he desperately wants Penelope, having Eurylochus around tells his omega brain "oh maybe there's no danger here? But where is Penelope? Does Eurylochus know? Will he take me to her?"
And Eury has approximately one to two minutes to scoop Odysseus into his arms and run him to the nearest ship so he can stay someplace safe for the rest of his heat. Thankfully, the Ithacan army is a well-oiled machine and have the gangplank lowered for Eurylochus, the hatch to the lower deck open, etc. etc.
As the second in command, Eurylochus takes charge of their forces while Odysseus goes through his heat. And that includes going to war meetings. Most of the other Greek kings snicker and ask him what it's like to serve under an omega, to which point Eurylochus says something to the effect of "I admire him greatly. I can hardly think of another leader who can so easily slaughter a group of enemy soldiers with only his hands."
And they get real quiet after that.
(Side note, it's 100% canon to this AU that in instances where Eurylochus couldn't reach Odysseus, the kings all sent Achilles in to manhandle Ody and drag him back into the Greek camp bc he's the only one safe from getting his jugular ripped out. It turns out that even when he's lost in his heat, Odysseus is still clever enough to remember how to undo armor straps/find the chinks in one's armor.)
((Also, Eury respects Odysseus a lot more for his mind and whatnot. It's just that, alpha to alpha, he knows the only thing that the Greek kings respect is power.))
In terms of the events of the Odyssey/Epic, I think their dynamic is largely unchanged. Eurylochus doesn't view his brother as "an omega that happens to be my captain/king" but more so as "my captain/king who happens to be an omega".
I do imagine that during the mutiny tho... their fight still happens, and it's the first time Eurylochus has had to really resist his instincts, especially when it comes to Odysseus. His instincts as an alpha tell him it's wrong to be attacking an omega, his brother. But at the same time, he knows how capable Odysseus is and that he cannot hold back.
And then Odysseus gets stabbed. I imagine instead of a pained gasp, he lets out a sharp cry that only an omega in pain can make. Eurylochus is familiar with the sound from how often Odysseus has cried out in emotional pain when locked aboard the ship while in heat.
And Eurylochus will have many, many mixed emotions about seeing Odysseus get injured. He's conflicted and upset because yeah, maybe Odysseus would've killed him for standing in his way...
But he was only attempting to disarm Odysseus so he could take over the ship as the new captain. To see Odysseus nearly bleed to death, it's wrong. It was never meant to be taken this far.
The men want to throw Odysseus' body overboard to get rid of their bad omen, their omega. Eurylochus won't let them. He bandages his brother up the best he can, despite knowing full well that Odysseus had tried to kill him minutes ago, and sets a new course for them.
And in his final moments before Zeus' lightning strikes him dead, Eurylochus oddly feels at peace. He was the one who opened the wind bag, he started the mutiny, he killed the sacred cattle.
Perhaps an alpha cannot know loyalty as an omega knows it, and that is why Odysseus is so dead set on going home.
Or perhaps it's just him.

Usually I just steal headcanons for my ships from other people but like I'm the ceo of eurypoli I wanted to make some, so here are some eurypoli headcanons!
-They started dating before troy.
-Ctimene knows about their relationship and is ok with it, she even gets along with Polites very well, Eury has two hands for something.
-Odysseus was going to kill Eurylochus until they explained to him that Ctimene was allowing it and it wasn't cheating.
-At first they tried to keep their relationship a secret to avoid questions from the crew and reactions like Ody's but Polites was completely incapable of acting like he wasn't in love with Eurylochus so they dropped the secret after a while.
-Polites always thinks Eurylochus looks super cool no matter what he is doing and Eurylochus always thinks Polites looks gorgeous no matter what he is doing.
-Both love seeing other sides of each other, Polites loves when Eurylochus acts sweet and Eurylochus loves when Polites acts more serious, specially during battles.
-Polites likes gifting things to Eurylochus so he was planning of searching something for him every time they stopped at an island, he didn't last enough to do this so Eurylochus only has what Polites gave him from the island of the lotus eaters.
-Eurylochus loved Polites' optimism but he was always worried that something would happen to him.
-Eurylochus was REALLY mad that Odysseus threw Polites' headband away during the underworld (don't worry guys, poli picks up the headband, it's not lost).
-while Odysseus was talking to the prophet the crew was comforting Eurylochus because seeing Polites in the underworld affected him a lot.
-ghost au thing: no matter how much everyone, including Polites, told him it wasn't healthy, Eurylochus' sleeping schedule got absolutely wrecked after he discovered Polites was more visible during the night, after a while he was convinced to fix it.
-Polites loves cuddling with Eurylochus.
-Polites also loves asking Eurylochus to pick him up.
-Polites is the only other person that can lift The strongest of Same, not because he is specially strong, is just that he is the only one Eurylochus allows to.
-Polites is great at baking, Eurylochus is great at cooking.

Eury lives au/ Eury x Poseidon (+ Amphitrite because I didn't know she existed until three days ago)
Tumblr media
Inspired by @/anerdyrat Circe! (Not really Circe is still there) Eurylochus au and @/caramellcandy villain au!
Amphitrite's parts will be highlighted in blue so you can just skip the rest.
Amphitrite comes into the mix by just humoring Eury's existence. She won't take him away because she knew Poseidon didn't want that. But she'll talk to him and make sure he's okay. Plus she'll stay with him if Poseidon is gone for a certain amount of time.
She is a caring woman by human standards at least, but she has no intention of stopping Poseidon from drowning Eury's best friend. That's none of her business, Plus, Eury's said best friend killed her husband's son. She, in that regard, has no say in the matter.
It's obvious Poseidon is grieving but he won't acknowledge it like he should.
Attempting to remember anything put strain on Eury's head...then he remembered.
Storm, lightning, a man with long brown hair and a beard...pointing at him. Then a sharp stinging ball of light hit...then nothing else. What was that man's name?

So, from Poseidon's perspective...he's someone he can use (or a way to pass the time lol). Bend his memories to make him think EVERYTHING was Ody's fault (it kind of was but tomatoe tamatoe) and make him seem more like a monster than he is.
They get to know each other for the next seven years, some of Eury's memories come back but not happy one's. Never happy one's. The only good memory or feeling he got was when a certain name came up in his hand when he saw a red curtain.

The next four years he couldn't help but get closer and be more tender and caring towards Eury. And vice versa for Eurylochus.
Amphitrite grew to care for Eury too but more in a friendly way. They are the type of friends that talk or gossip from time to time. Nothing more. She's rather fond of how, despite having amnesia, he still has a worthy enough personality to be around.
Amphi (that's her nickname to me) doesn't mind Poseidon's "relationship" with Eurylochus but there is some mild concern by how...odd it is.
I would like to point out that that their relationship isn't healthy. Eury is entirely dependent on Poseidon because he needs him for everything. Food, shelter, sometimes physical movement and "human" interaction and touch.

Story Idea! (Yeah...these are the things I think about when I'm bored)
WHAT IF (and hear me out here) Eurylochus had a lover that was ON the ship. Hence why he cares about the crew so much is because his lover is also on the ship/apart of that crew.
AND BEFORE YOU COME AT ME, I'm aware of Ctimene and I LOVE that ship but I kind of find it odd that he doesn't mention her. So, for story's sake, take this as an au where he and Ctimene aren't married.
First version of this "Au"
Let's call Eury's bf/husband "Evander". Evander grew up alongside Eurylochus, Polites, and Polites. Friends to lover's sort of thing. Let's say Evander and Eury got married shortly after Odypen did.
MLM marriages are accepted in Ithica because I said so.
During the more wholesome moments (Let's say, before Polites' death) both men get on Ody's nerves because both of them are so mushy and lovey dovey while he has to wait to get to his wife.
Yes, Ody would be the micro-hater who says "GET A ROOM" when they just glance at each other.
Evander fought alongside all three of his best friends in war and continued to travel with them. During moments where the crew would sleep, he would be there to comfort Eury (Especially after Polite's death...and the windbag situation.)
The line in Mutiny, "Don't make me fight you brother, you know you would have done the same"
Ody would have been referring to Evander in this situation in roles were switched. And he's not wrong, but Eury would burn the world down for Evvy.
BUT Ody told Eury to light six torches and one of those torches were handed to Evvy. And if Eury didn't think fast enough, Evvy would've actually been killed.
And you know how Eurylochus had his name chanted in the song? What if that was Evvy trying to get his husband's attention? Because all Evvy wanted right at that moment was comfort after watching more men get killed.
Once they reached Helio's cow Island, Eury would've killed a cow for solely him and Evander to share. There are tons of others the rest of the crew can pick but THAT one? It belongs to Evander.
And of course, because of this situation, he dies with Eury.
2. Second version
Everything is basically the same except Eurymene (Eury + Ctimene) and Evander are all married to each other.
(I HC Eury as Demisexual + romantic so he is in love with Ctimene. As far as Evander and Ctimene go, I'm not sure whether to put them in a platonic marriage or a romantic one.)
At first I thought this wouldn't work because I would think both husbands leaving would be a shitty move. Especially if a bunch of assholes would be shooting their shot when both men are gone, which means no one protecting her from sleezbags.
But then I remembered that Evander and Eurylochus both have families and hopefully upstanding men (Uncles, brothers. cousins) who would protect her if need be.
youtube
Now, here comes the sad part, what if Evander was given a torch? A torch given to him by Eury no less.
Imagine Eury seeing his lover getting brutally killed and the only thing that's left of him is his sandal.
He just saw a creature take his husband in one bite like it was nothing. Everything was like slow motion for him.
And you know what's worse?
Eury knew what was going on with the torches after two or three men had been eaten and before he could make it to Evvy he was already dead. He only saw his face one last time as they made eye contact.
At that moment, Eury couldn't think. He couldn't move. His breathing was quick as that sight kept flashing before his eyes over and over and over again.
The muscular man, as a final act of mobility, picked up his lover's sandal and fell to his knees. Eury didn't fully register that he was crying. He couldn't fully register anything after what happened.
His sobs, amongst the rest of the crew mates, were heard. Heavy loud ones. That sandal he held was tightly clutched to his chest, more like his heart.
You want to know what's funny? That sandal would always find some way off of Evvy's foot. Either when he walked too fast or ran, it would always find some way to slip off of his foot.
It was laughable back then, Irritating for Evvy, but laughable for everyone else.
But Eury couldn't find it in him to laugh or do much of anything besides cry his heart out.
Odysseus felt sick to his stomach at all the cries he heard, especially Eurylochus's. Tears and sobs from a man that would rarely cry at anything.
So, without even looking, he knew what happened. Some part of him hoped Eurylochus didn't hand Evander the torch. But six sacrifices had to be made, if Evander was one of them then so be it.
It hurt him, all of their cries did, he tried so hard to drown it out, but it wasn't working.
Soon, the men's sobs, Including Eury's, had died down. But that's only because they were all hoarse and exhausted. Ody knew Eury wouldn't have been strong enough to be second in command anymore, so he left him be.
They made it Helio's Island but no cows were eaten, the grass was. But surprisingly, most men didn't even feel like eating at all. They only did to keep whatever strength the had left to get back home.
Eury wouldn't eat at all, hell he couldn't even register Ody's voice when he told him to eat. All he did was stare at his lover's sandal. His death circling Eurylochus' mind to no end.
No one could talk him into eating or doing much of anything. Eury was too far gone and after too many tries, they all began to notice that.
He stayed in the far corner of the ship for the remainder of the trip. No talking, no thinking, just some quiet whimpers here and there and some tears if you looked.
By some miracle, they made it back to Ithica but all men on board were forever changed. The last few men that were on board got off the ship so fast you would've thought they had the gift of super speed.
The only one left was Eurylochus. He didn't know they were in Ithica. He stopped caring about his surroundings a long time ago. Odysseus couldn't bring himself to even attempt to talk to Eury, so the next best thing would be some family members of Eurylochus and Ctimene, his wife.
And oh boy did was that shattering. Eury's family loved Evander; he was a good guy. Ctimene loved him very much too (Like I said before, I can't decide between platonic or romantic love.) Now you mean to tell them he's dead? How on earth is HIS family going to take this.
After some coaxing from his wife and mother, he stood up and very very very slowly walked off the ship to his home. He didn't have the energy or will power to be quick on his feet anymore.
Once they made it home, Ctimene helped him into a bath. She tried to take the sandal, just so it wouldn't get wet, but Eury wouldn't let it go.
Not that she blamed him or was made at him for clutching it so tightly. That was the last thing he had from Evander.
After some good bath and some food Eurylochus was laid to finally rest. But he couldn't sleep. Every time he tried he just saw that creature clasp its mouth of Evander.
Safe to say, Eurylochus barely spoke from then on, and due to certain incident, was often left on su!cide watch. Over time he does open up but the grief and depression is still there.
It takes a lot to make him laugh, hell it takes a lot to even make him smile but it happens if you play your cards rights.
He never stops thinking about Evvy...and never will
-
Should I make a fic out of this, would you guys want to read it?
