I randomly started thinking about your post re: N’s “boyfriend pictures” and why they hold so much weight for me, specifically.

I know a lot of people argue that you can totally have a healthy relationship without posting your partner (JB), which is true. People also argue that N and L may be posting their partners all over their private socials, which could also be true.

But I think the big point for me is this: the story that N’s “boyfriend pics” tell us is that there is someone who can post him, and someone who can’t. This is very different from no one posting him at all (e.g. JB) because the first situation shows that he does actually give someone that privilege.

And yes, you can argue that it’s work related (both true and half-true, depending on how you look at it) but the fact of the matter is, L is in a public-facing position and in the court of public opinion, just the act of being able to post him so freely becomes a pretty undeniable power move especially in comparison to the obvious restrictions on the other side.

And, it’s a power move he’s made no effort to even out, even though it’s obvious that the person he’s with feels extremely threatened. I don’t normally equate social media to any kind of tangible proof of affection but between N posting off-duty pics of him on her public grid + Mr. I’m not a big hugger always hugging her + I have a bad memory but I remember the day we met like it’s a movie + I don’t love a selfie unless it’s with you…

It’s patterned behavior and it’s really giving “you are the only exception”.

Question for no particular reason if someone, not me, hypothetically wrote a fix it fic where Izuku goes back in time to save a young Tenko, would you, the audience, prefer that to take place BEFORE Tenko kills his entire family with Decay or AFTER

My thoughts on how the Milgram mv machine works based on the evidence we have:

(I know there’s been discussion about where exactly the interrogations take place, but wherever they are,) the prisoners are made to sit in a specific chair near the wall that houses the machine.

It’s ordinarily hidden, but the wall panels shift aside to reveal it when the mechanical sounds play in the dramas. As well as the walls moving, the chair transforms to restrain the prisoner and attach whatever it takes to access their brain. The fact that none of the more frightened prisoners try to run or break it makes it seem like they physically cannot. This is why Fuuta sounds so panicked, and why Amane is suddenly helpless in front of Es in their T1 vds.

(My mind conjures very classic sci-fi mad scientist machines with wires, pipes, lights, nodes, needles, etc, but I’d love to hear how other people visualize it.)

In some vds (maybe all? I’d need to check,) you can hear Es take some steps right before their iconic line -- it would make sense that for safety reasons, the power mechanism is placed across the room. Once again it could be anything, but the sound effect makes me think of one of those giant wall-mounted levers you have to pull down.

The voice dramas don’t really provide the type of crime details that an actual interrogation would reveal, and it’s odd that they’re placed before the extraction rather than after Es gets to see the new details. This leads me to believe the machine functions with priming. All Es needs to do is get them talking about their murder, so it’s on their mind.

The video produced is much like a (non-lucid) dream. Even if the prisoners figure out that this is how it works, they can’t control it just by thinking really hard about something else. The murders produce the strongest emotional affect, and that’s what it picks up on. If someone else used the machine, it would default to whatever gave them the strongest emotional reaction in the ~15 minutes beforehand, hence why Es’ video focuses on their daunting task ahead. (The Undercover theory is still a bit loose, though, given the private shots that Es wouldn't have known about). It’s why the videos are usually closely linked to the vd topics/beats. I also like to think that the reason their prisoner colors appear so much is because they’re looking at those colors on their uniform 24/7.

The bell rings to inform Es that it’s the optimal time to use the machine -- the prisoner has been thinking about things for long enough that the video will be about their crime, and if the conversation lasts much longer they’ll start thinking of other things. It’s at a different time for each prisoner because it’s based on the specific conversation. I guess Jackalope is listening in to the interrogation, timing it perfectly. (The only one that kind of messes with this theory is Yonah, because they just keep talking afterwards lol, but it could just show that the interrogation is still in Es’ control.)

Their “Sing your sins” is the final priming nudge to get them to think of their actions as a sin, revealing their guilt.

Once activated, the prisoner enters a sort of trance/sleeping state. It’s very much like REM sleep, with the machine forcibly activating neurons and recording the output. The prisoners have asked Es what they saw, meaning they don’t remember the mvs. I like to think the prisoners do experience the mv in real time, acting as the major version of themself that appears, but can’t remember it afterwards. It’s when you experience a dream, but as soon as you wake up you’re just left with fleeting emotions and memories right on the tip of your tongue.

The video plays immediately upon extraction -- whether on a huge projection or little screen depends on which room it’s in. It simultaneously saves the memory so that Es can rewatch it later (on those old TVs in the jailbreak mix). The machine downloads the song and video together, but requires special parts to retrieve them. The technology is pretty new and fragile, so if one is broken, there might be a delay between when Es can hear the extracted song and see it with the video. (That’s my justification for Kotoko’s delays -- after 9 prisoners the parts wear out, or maybe Mikoto himself overheats it with his complex situation.)

Based on the lack of conversation we get afterwards, I picture Es leaving before the prisoner wakes from the trance. The machine adjusts their brain back to normal before they awaken, restraints freed and able to return to the rest of the prison.

It’s very much like a dream, so it’s not harmful despite the amnesia/head injuries the prisoners have. It does, however, exhaust them. Brain activity alone takes a lot of energy, so forced brain activity with added emotional strain would cause them to feel pretty drained the rest of the day.

i don't get why people still use fanart for banners in their fics where the artists of those fanarts say that they do not want their art used nor reposted (it's even worse when despite them still using the fanart and basically disrespecting the artists choice, they don't even add credits which makes it👹). idk like it's just disrespectful and especially when there is so much official art in genshin, you can really choose from all the art that was already released, especially the birthday arts for the characters 🧚🏻‍♀️

Emi Leech

So I had a dream where Jade & Floyd were my brothers - and that got me thinking of an au where Emi is their younger sister.

(I suppose in this au NRC’s gonna be co-ed for Emi to actually end up there.)

Ngl, considering how wary of the twins og Emi is, I kinda love the contrast of her being all casual and chill with them in this au. Like, she might not read them as well as they read each other, but she still knows them and doesn’t really bat an eye to most of their shenanigans - it’s just more of the usual for her.

Though, she also wouldn’t be as patient with the tweels as they seem to be with each other. As kids, she’d always complain about Floyd giving up games or whatever halfway through, and some of that attitude still persists. With Jade, their temperaments are more similar, but of course they butt heads sometimes too - especially when she can’t figure out what Jade actually is thinking or up to (basically, others may be sus of Jade because they don’t know his thought process that well, Emi is sus of him specifically because she does know him).

On the other hand, I can see leech!Emi and Jade engaging in some sorta prank wars - with the danger of things sometimes escalating a fair bit. Though if someone comes to question them, you’re just gonna get two versions of that Jade smile (something they picked up from a parent, no doubt) and reassurances of how they were just “having a bit of fun” (just don’t mind the carnage around them it’s fiiine).

Also growing up with Floyd would mean he and Emi used to play(?) wrestle a lot as kids (they both probably have some marks / scars from each other’s teeth). Even at NRC, Leech!Emi would be more willing to roughhouse than yuusona Emi is, though she’s trying to keep up appearances a bit more.

(Though now I’m thinking it would be kinda funny for her and Floyd to be just squeezing each other and fighting / “fighting” on the school grounds so yeah guess it’s still a thing. Also Emi may be younger & smaller but that’s when you learn to fight dirty. So sure, she may have two intimidating brothers to fall back on if need be, but she can usually hold her own.)

I wanna say she’d end up sorted in Scarabia - I have a hard time believing that a Leech would be as much of a rule follower as og Emi is, and so Heartslabyul wouldn’t be as much of a contender. (I mean Octavinelle sure is an option too, but I still haven’t quite figured out how that spirit of benevolence even applies to the tweels, and how it’d apply to her in turn. Plus like, I kinda love the idea of a mer-person out in the desert, for that very real fish out of water vibe, lol. Not quite as intense as being thrust into a whole new world as yuusona Emi is, but still the similarities are there.)

Poor Azul tho. There were 2 menaces he’s dealing with, now there’s a third. Sure, leech!Emi’s not as concerted in bothering him as the tweels are, but she’s heard enough from her brothers to casually join in on the ribbing whenever the opportunity arises.

On the other hand, Jamil now almost has two Azuls on him. Sure, Emi’s watching everyone around her quite carefully, but there’s something about the way her eyes linger on Jamil, that little knowing smile on her lips (with those sharp teeth, to boot), that just puts Jamil on edge, and makes him extra careful about keeping up appearances in front of her. 

At least this version of Emi would be a bit less lawful, so they could eventually find more common ground on that with Jamil. (On the other hand, not sure Jamil would appreciate some of the "helpful" suggestions she could give for sorting out his situation, oh boy.)

Plus ngl, it kinda tickles me to think of Jamil being all "am I intimidated, am I attracted, is it both?" with her. (He deserves a kinda menacing & questionable yet doting partner, is what I'm saying. Keeps him on his toes a bit.)

Though I suppose for leech!Emi, her flirting would be of a more teasing variety, prodding and poking at Jamil until she gets a reaction out of him. Poor snek.

A lot of Emi’s voracious reading (do the merpeople even have books? I mean they have photographs so presumably) was directed on land dwellers (just like yuu!Emi has always enjoyed reading about different cultures). So she gets very excited about actually experiencing all these things she’s only read about before.

So there’s this tall woman (close to 180 cm / a little under 6 feet, so a bit shorter than the tweels), who can honestly look unintentionally (or intentionally) pretty menacing sometimes, suddenly just being so very excited (and frankly cute) about like the crunch of dry leaves under her feet or something.

Compared to the tweels, though, I think leech!Emi would still be more approachable and more genuinely friendly. And I can definitely see folks turning to her, asking her to explain or rein in the tweels (just like people sometimes ask Jade to do with Floyd).

I wanna say Emi would still dye her hair red (at least in human form, because hey new body and look to play around with, almost like on a character creation screen), just now there’s some additional jokes about how it’s “just like the color of blood, so lovely 😇”.

Plus she absolutely loves playing around with clothes and accessories and things. Flowy dresses and long swooshy coats are just great, especially with some wind to flap them around. (Let's just hope that she remembers that in human form she's supposed to be a bit more careful about how much skin she shows, before the wind sweeps the hem of her dress too high. Poor Jamil is gonna be dying with how casual she is with her body in that regard. Dealing with Floyd in the basketball locker room is bad enough, this is much worse for Jamil's blood pressure and sensibilities.)

And don't even get her started on all the nifty little gadgets you only see on land.

could it be a ruse just to show the spectators that Sylus was unalived and that he’s not a threat anymore? like, his evol is energy manipulation which kinda looks like blood from the trailers so far, so not putting it past him that the “blood” we see is just bursts of energy that Sylus manipulated to make it look real and that he’s “dead” just to get nosy people off his back. 🤔

like, look at him? why does he look (kinda?) sad in these shots? 🥹 is it because he’s taking us out of the N109 zone himself when actually he wants to spend more time with us? and that by MC leaving means he won’t be seeing her for a while or until who knows when?
