I’ve been on a mission as a librarian (and a nerd) this summer to read a Bunch of manga. Like as much as I can. Here’s what I’ve read so far in the last two weeks:
Assassination classroom (6/10, I like the plot but not the characters, I don’t find the humor very funny 🤷‍♀️) I read the first two volumes
Attack on Titan (7/10, was surprised I liked this one as much as I did, curious about the plot and might continue) I read one volume
Food wars (4/10, I read it but didn’t like the weird sexual food stuff and I didn’t like the characters and I didn’t really care about the plot) I read one volume
Ayashimon (3/10, I don’t care about organized crime and it was kind of hard to follow, the monster lore was hard to understand) I read one volume
Full metal alchemist (6/10, I like how it was set up kinda just like little vignettes, the characters seem fun) I read three volumes
My next life as a villainess (8/10, i like the plot and the characters are fun. Katarina is a very cute character, will be reading more) I read two volumes
The promised neverland (9/10, my favorite one, I like the plot and the characters and the world that’s been created) I’ve read seven volumes
Chainsaw man (8/10, I like denji and the humor is nice and the lore isn’t hard to understand) I’ve read three volumes
Soloist in a cage (3/10, I had high expectations here, the plot seemed interesting but it ended up being a bust)
Komi can’t communicate (4/10, repetitive and I didnt like how Komi was presented) I read one volume
Kaiju no. 8 (6/10, not my cup of tea but I can see why people would like it. Neat 🤷‍♀️) I read one volume
The summer hiraku died (5/10, I didn’t like the accent the author used and the plot was a little slow but it gets points for gay) I read one volume
Witch hat atelier (8/10, very cute, I’ll continue, didn’t expect it to be as heavy as it seems like it’s going to be) I’ve read two volumes
Another (9/10, well paced and engaging, very good ghost murder story) I read all of it
Frienen (7/10, very cute, would continue, I like the characters)
So I’m a spider, so what (7/10, i think it’s interesting but I don’t really care about books about animals and that’s what it is)
Tokyo ghoul (4/10, didn’t like it, the characters were eh and it was a little gory)
Orange (8/10, I’m halfway through the whole thing and can’t wait to finish, it’s very cute)
Fruits basket (2/10, boring and hard to follow, didn’t finish, didn’t like the art style)
Ouran high school host club (3/10, I’ve seen the anime a bunch and knew I didnt care for it so I couldn’t get into this one, I just didn’t like it)
One punch man (2/10, I didn’t like the comedy and I don’t really love fight scenes and that’s most of this)
Anyone got any other Must Reads? I’ve read my hero academia, spy x family, Naruto, and death note. I know what goes on in one piece and am not interested. I’ve got some plans to read demon slayer and some sports manga. I think I’m leaving some stuff out lmao it’s been a crazy two weeks

I might sound like a hater but i think neither Tommy and Carol did anything wrong by hating Nancy and calling her a slut. They were just warning Steve about her being a serial cheating priss and not only he ditched them he didn't listen and look at where it got him...
I understand this feeling. To be fair slut shaming someone so publicly, especially within the context of a small town in the 80s, isn’t cool. Even if Nancy had cheated on Steve it’s hard to quantify the ramifications that would have resulted from having those words painted where the entire town could see. That’s one more thing that really frustrates me about this scene and how the Duffers play it.
These are not just some hurtful words that Tommy scrawled in a bathroom stall, he wrote them on the movie sign where the entire town could see it. And we know it was up there for at least a day. In reality this would have changed Nancy’s entire high school experience. Her mother would have been asked about it at the grocery store. Her father would have been asked about it at work. Everyone at school would be talking about it and they would know that she had cheated on Steve (Because Tommy or Carol would have told them) and that mark of slut would have followed her everywhere she went in Hawkins until the day she left town.
And that’s awful and not something I would wish on anyone in reality. Because while I don’t like how Nancy treated Steve, I don’t expect teenage girls to have it all together. And for this character in particular, I can definitely empathize with the extreme trauma she’s been through. The fact that Nancy made mistakes while figuring out her complicated romantic feelings is not my issue with the character or the show.
My issue is with the shallow writing. It’s just EVERYWHERE but particularly when it comes to the character of Nancy. Tommy calls Nancy out as a “slut” in front of the whole town basically, but other than some initial hurt and embarrassment Nancy doesn’t face any consequences from it. Cause the moment isn’t about Nancy at all. The Duffers don’t care enough about women for that lol. Calling Nancy a slut is abouy Steve, so we can watch Steve litterally clean up his act. Get it? And while Nancy is out there “girl bossing it” and emotionally cheating on the boyfriend she settled for with the guy she’s waiting on to step up, Steve is the only one we see facing consequences.
We’re told that Steve loses his popularity and the figurative “crown” because everyone in school knows that he caught Nancy and Jonathan having a moment in her bedroom and they presume (correctly) that she’s stringing them both along. But they don’t even take the time to fully develop that or do anything interesting with it. They’re too interested in getting to the part where they can humiliate him and beat him up to do much more than tell us, oh yeah people think he “turned bitch” for sticking with Nancy. But Nancy herself is never called out for her behavior. She doesn’t suffer any social consequences that the audience can see. Why would they do that when it would get in the way of her being a Girl Boss? The narrative goes so far out of its way to excuse her actions and frame her romance with Jonathan as romantic and inevitable when really everything she’s doing is juvenile and selfish. But to the Duffers this is just how you write a Boss Babe.
The narrative disconnect between Steve as the Reformed Asshole who must suffer a thousand hits if he’s allowed to live, and Nancy as a Boss Babe who can do no wrong, is actually kind of hilarious. It’s so bad. 😆
And that’s honestly why I don’t like Nancy as a character very much. She was a really shitty girlfriend, and I want better for my faves even if the D-bags don’t lol. In a perfect world Steve would have talked things out with Tommy & Carol, and when Nancy broke his heart Billy would have been there to kiss it better 😉

My last post was being snarky but here's my genuine pronoun etiquette opinion in case you actually want to know: it's pretty much never a good idea to directly ask someone their pronouns in front of a group of people, especially if you're in a position of authority, i.e. a teacher. The stakes of this question are very high for some people and you are putting them on the spot to decide what they want to share and what is safe to share. If you have decided you want to ask for pronouns at all, you can introduce yourself with your own to remind people that they can share theirs if they want to. And for the love of god whatever you do please do not just single out the most gender non-conforming or "trans looking" (to you) person and ask only them and no one else

I have to be honest, when people are objectively into plus sized bodies it turns me on, and I’m not sorry.
I don’t want to have sex where we tiptoe around the fact that I’m fat, I actually want my body to be touched on and groped and worshiped during sex and if someone gonna be weird about it, I’m not going to enjoy myself. I want someone to grab and kiss and mark on my belly the way they would any person no matter the size, as for the rest of me. I’m deserving of that type of sex, and to shame people who want to give me that type of sex just kinda feels weird and fatphobic.
The way that people treat any sort of attraction to fat bodies as fetishization and chasing just frustrates me to no end, sometimes people just are attracted to fat people and know how to love on us the way other people are loved up on.

Just saw a TikTok complaining about ‘kitten’ as a pet name in fanfiction and while I do agree with/understand their discomfort on that one the comments were FULL of people mentioning all the other common pet names ?? Like honey babe baby sweetheart etc ?? Is your partner just supposed to call you by your name the whole time ????????

i actually think it’s so significant that disco elysium is named after an optional side quest. because the heart of the game is in the margins. same way you don’t get the real ending if you don’t do the (let’s face it, sometimes annoying and disincentivised) cryptozoologist quest line. you have to care about the world and its people, not just grinding through the mystery, to ever really understand anything. which is exactly what the game of suzerainty tells you IF you don’t try to “win”

Just realising most of my grievances with popular bat fanon really boil down to "Character flaws are good and interesting actually and I don't like when you try and take them away to make the character more palatable"

ENG PLAYERS I BESEECH YOU
I have been informed that you guys are getting part 4 of episode 7 tomorrow, which means we are FINALLY going to get the official romanization of Revaan's name, somebody please tell me because I need to know what it is.
like, yes, it's probably just Revan/Levan, but look, I'm sitting here with my finger over the button of all these Laverne and Shirley jokes and just waiting for the opportunity to deploy them --

i hate motherfuckers who base their whole personality on the sum experience of their formative years + the people they mostly interact with + some key impactful events in life + a small amount of traits they were just born with + their current interests and some other stuff probably. so fucking annoying...

you can say what you want about Derek Hale but at the end of the day, when Stiles introduced him as his cousin Miguel, Derek still "yes and"ed him. A girlie would have written that in a fanfic and people would've said it was out of character. The children (Derek) crave shenanigans and tomfoolery, remember that.

does anyone else form their headcanons of marinette and adrien largely on the basis of "they have to be opposite each other"? like, creation and destruction, yin and yang, etc. like Marinette being late all the time and sleeping through her alarms? so she's probably a deep sleeper? So that means, by the laws of my lovesquare headcanons according to my brain, Adrien has to be a light sleeper. Marinette is a chaotic creative person and I can imagine her just having so much STUFF all around and living in organized chaos. so therefore Adrien likes his spaces neat and clear. (also something something creation and clutter vs destruction and emptiness) you know??? ???? ? adrien and marinette headcanons just cant be independent of each other in my brain. they are always intrinsically linked

Why are fandom discord servers some of the most stress inducing places in the world like why is it when you post anything into any chat it feels like either a) you're purposely being ignored or b) you've pissed someone off just by speaking. And it's such a pain in the dick because if you want any sort of help with anything or want to be even a little bit apart of a community you have to be in these servers. While the whole time it feels like that one meme picture of all the girls sneering at the camera because you dared show your face in there
