your thoughts on 🐻 are really interesting to me as coming from someone more familiar with the fine dining facets of the show vs my world of people working in kitchens. like i’ve eaten at michelin starred places and can clock boloud onscreen but the majority of what drew me to it in s1 was the BOH stuff they captured pretty well— like seeing decent representations of the unrelenting pace of service in tight quarters, hearing people throw around “lowboy” and “cambro”, the breakdowns in the walk-in, watching them actually show real knife skills and make a big deal about food safety and cross contamination as a plot point. even the painters tape on 32oz deli containers. the copenhagen ep hit different for me because that was a little bit my trajectory in the industry too— starting at a greasy spoon and then making a leap upwards to the career path i’m on now based on the kindness of a boss who saw i’d accidentally discovered i was passionate about it. i don’t have as much a frame of reference for the part they’re leaning into now so yeah. it’s interesting.

thank you, and i should note for context that i'm not much more and a passionate but self-taught home cook. i've never worked a day in a restaurant (until i have my midlife crisis and quit my job and go to culinary school lol), but i've studied a lot on the subject and that informs my opinions here. but yeah, what i really love about s1 IS its attempts to capture that side of restaurant work because i think when we talk about restaurants, we talk about fine dining. we don't talk about rustic chefs, we don't talk about the line cooks and the italian beef counter around the corner (off topic but this is why i watch bon appetit's on the line video series and the nyt cooking on the job series religiously). i loved that the bear was exploring this world, and so to see s2 (and now s3 apparently since all carmy talks about in the promo is getting michelin starred) skew more fine dining was is a big "noooooo, WHY?" moment for me.

bear is at its best when it shows that to cook for someone, to prepare food and serve it to someone else and have them eat it, and then just like that, it's all gone, is an act of love. food and cooking is art, yes, but ultimately why do we cook? is it not, to quote that poem tumblrinas love, because we love you and we want you to eat well? like high brow and "low brow" cooking alike..... the goal is to feed people, to satisfy them, because we want them to eat well. i think of the moment when sydney cooks an omelette for sugar, the love and care she puts into the simplest of dishes. i think of sydney serving sandwiches off the side of the restaurant because the power is out. i think of the recipe for tomato sauce. i think of marcus and his cake.

somewhere in between then and now this show has forgotten why it was we flocked to it in the first place, what captivated us from that first season. if i want to watch pretty plates and fine dining, i can watch chef's table. i want my god damn sandwich shop back.

but hey - because of this, we're having these kinds of conversations. so i guess it's not for nothing lol.

Production: The cooking episodes are always an easy concept for the show. These ones are the most forettable for me though. The minigames were fun and well-chosen. I do still think the prod team uses the info graphics as too much of a crutch. Does anyone actually try making these recipes? lol

Endearment: The guys absolutely are trying to keep the energy up on thjs episode but there's just something that doesn't feel very natural. Maybe because they had such a long hiatus from the show and just had full schedules but they seem like they're having to try just a little more than usual with this one.

(it's an animated show on youtube and it's super good!! it's about Totally Normal™ rival food trucks except one of them is run by an alien clown who was banished from his home planet for getting stage fright during a production of cats the musical and the other one is run by a 1000-year-old zombie bounty hunter who is also italian. there's only about an hour's worth of content between all the current eps/songs and it has me grasped by the scruff of the neck like a misbehaving kitten)

cesare is a converted oil-burning steamer who used to be a passenger engine once upon a time before getting stuck on freight duty. he's lowkey pissed about essentially getting demoted and goes out of his way to cause problems on purpose - he's extremely petty and WILL slow down whenever he sees a passenger train so they can't pass due to freight having right of rail! has a one-sided rivalry going on with renown tourist train 'the bigtop' (they're more baffled by his antics than anything else tbh)

he got a little fucked up during the conversion process so he'll leak oil from his eyes/mouth sometimes, it's gross </3 his crew doesn't really care tho since they're freight so they're used to grime

he totally does NOT care about his freight so what if he makes them sleep in his stall during bad weather so he can keep an eye on them to make sure they're safe it doesn't mean ANYTHING shut up.

(he also never turns his headlight off so his eyes always glow but that's not bc of the conversion he's just a weirdo)

doctor is a gondola! he usually carries junk/scrap metal. he'll do that social experiment thing where if you hand someone something while talking to them they'll take it without even thinking. you're having a conversation with him and suddenly you're holding a copy of the atari E.T. game

he'll save things that he thinks are neat or that the others will like! expresses affection by giving you garbage :)

is totally unfazed by the rotary dumper (it freaks everyone else out), very skilled at heckling coaches, and will eat human food (what is wrong with him)

conrad is a hazmat tanker and he wears goggles for safety :) why is a short-line carrying hazardous material? don't worry about it. he's v big and v strong and a lil dumb but doing his best! will pick up frances and doctor and carry them around sometimes

he'll also drink his load if he thinks he can get away with it (he is not sneaky starlight bless him). man chugs hydrochloric acid like powerade. kind of scared of humans, they creep him out a bit

frances is a transfer caboose and she's basically cesare's right hand man brake van in this scenario bc she's more than happy to be a nuisance!

she'll hack into other train's radio frequencies and eavesdrop/interrupt/pass along the hot gossip to everyone else. she'll also tune into stations and sing along to songs sometimes (cesare will tell her to cut that shit out and then 3 seconds later ask if she can get anything italian)

i think my all time fav episode IS the rat hunting episode, its a DiU ep, its got rats, and its a cute silly ep with jotaro and josuke and jotaro almost dies in the funniest way he coulda so it kinda hits a lot of fav elements for me

BUT

Phantom Blood: honestly? its hard to say because i think the manga is better and the anime was weirdly segmented for eps. it kinda slumps in the middle for me

so i think I like the Youth with Dio ep, something about it is very fun to me...

Battle Tendency: OUGH so this ones hard because i think p solidly i loVE the first ep

i think Joseph at the start of Battle Tendecy carried the strongest best traits of Joseph that Araki kinda left behind, like being really nice and passionate about things that mattered even if it put himself in danger, as well as having a hair trigger fight response when it cames to ppl bothering him, or more importantly bothering the people he cares about.. they cut out a bit of him and erinas bestie stuff from the manga which is sO sad

but i think "New Yorks JoJo" captures my favirote snap shot of silly fun bastard joseph that i love that he lost, with so many funny antics and such and his FUCKIGN SIGHT WITH STRAIZO IS SOO GOOD

BUT if i didnt go with that, id had to go with the chariot fight ep, so kinda two eps as this spans over both with the "a True Warrior" and "A Warrior Returns to the Wind" WHICH THE LATER EP TITLE MAKES ME SOOO WEEPY GOOD LURD ILY WHAM

Stardust Crusaders: SO THIS ONE IS HARD BECAUSE ITS SO FUCKING LONG AND SO MANY CHUNKS OF STUFF SPAN 2 AND 3 PARTERS

but mmm probably one of the D'arby fights,,, its hard to pick my fav? they both are really iconic and their the ones i remember the best/most fondly out of all Stardust tbh

i really think nearly every ep in DiU is really great, i think their all classic and i really dont have many i find a drag like i tend to in other parts. the yukako eps are really fun, LETS GO EAT ITALIAN FOOD IS A CLASSIC, THE INVISIBLE BABY EP, the intro ep for rohan are great just for the ending where josuke kills him <3, MIKITAKA EP!!! UGH a lot of good ones

but the rat hunting ep wins for me, for having a rat in it

Okay so let me just write my thoughts and reactions on ep 18 ( it’s kinda long)....

From the starting I knew that jang Han SEO never betrayed him. Please look at the shock, his shaky hands and a bit of horror. His acting skills man. My himbo baby. They way he GOT UP made my squeal so hard. Whenever vin speaks Italian I ascend to heaven. They way he just kill the Interpol guys and scared the shit out of the officers was amazing lol. The cover story was so convincing. WHEN HE SAID MS Choi ARE YOU STUPID , I WAS SO PROUD. Jang Han SEO should be an actor istg😂. Me Han was suspicious tho. ‘Bye ms Choi’😂. Just hold my hand lmao. You can see shock on Han seoks face when he realises that he can’t control his brother and when he laughed at him I lost shit.Jang Han SEO FINALLY standing up to him. Him pressing the hand cuffs please he is really learning a lot from Vinny. Han seok realising that he doesn’t have enough power is just so satisfying to watch.

The scene where Han seo says that Vinny is like his brother and like how he is comfortable with him. The scene was so heart wrenching. He has never experienced love and warmth. When Vinny told him not to call him brother you can see the pain. He is thinking that I wish he was his real brother so that I don’t have to ask for his permission to call him brother. When Vinny agreed you can see the happiness in his face and how he got all giggly and happy. Please someone hug him. The scene touched my heart. You can see that Vinny CARES for him. He really does. He really has been treating him like his little brother. You can also see that Vinny got a bit sad by how Han seo was treated. You can see a bit of protectiveness when he looks at Han SEO. I am really scared for Han SEO though. Like really. Vinny finally showing Han seok who is the BOSS .His story about his past was given in two lines but it didn’t feel rushed and I was satisfied. The writer really is amazing. The story about how he tortured the murder and saying that he is a cat which likes to play with his mouses aka the enemy was scary and so satisfying. I always thought that he was this kind of a guy. This just shows how superior he is. The big brain energy he has is just amazing. Like how he literally played Han seok. Everyone fangirling over luca aww. Vinny happy to see Luca but it was ruined by serious matters. Angry Vinny is so sexy. The chayenzo moments were less but it’s okay. I love how they are slowly building the relationship which will be unbreakable. I saw that the curtains of both Vinny and chayoung house were open. Does this mean they are finally acknowledging their feeling? The photo was so beautiful. Look how lost Vinny was when inzaghi didn’t come. The whole goodbye was so emotional. Chayoung is so strong. A true Mafia wife. Look at her consoling everyone while putting on a brave face and a smile. Some one hug her please. The whole geumga plaza giving him food and warmth I am crying. When he says thanks bro to bye bye balloon boss. I was like AWWWWWWWWWWW. Chayoung literally learned Italian FOR HIM I AM CRYING. The day Steve gave Bucky the notebook, it was two days before Steve was meant to step on the new quantum tunnel.  (Let’s call it what it is, a time machine.  Bucky swears he’s living in a sci-fi novel sometimes.)  He and Bucky were up late, talking about the things Bucky had missed in the last five years, the time heist, the support group Steve had started, the incredible Italian restaurant in the Upper East Side that Bucky simply had to try, when Steve suddenly had pulled the worn little book out of his pocket and handed it, wordlessly, to Bucky.

��What’s this?” Bucky turned the notebook in his hands, looking up at Steve, whose soft smile was enough to melt anyone, even a super-soldier.

“It’s something I started when I came out of the ice, something to help me…catch up with things.  Like food, movies, music, historical events, things I missed when I was under. Things that people suggested, things I saw myself.  I want you to have it.”

“Why?” Bucky had tried immediately to put the notebook back in Steve’s hands.  He could feel this coming, ever since Tony’s funeral, he could feel Steve pulling away, making subtle, slight preparations for his absence.  He had been giving things away: his worn books to Pepper, a simple gold chain to Morgan, a strange little collection of postcards to Bruce, picked up throughout his time on the run, all little pieces of his life, little pieces that, Bucky realized, would be to remember him by.  Steve didn’t say anything, but he didn’t have to.

“You’re not coming back are you?”

Steve’s face twists just slightly at Bucky’s words, reaching forward and pushing the notebook back towards him, refusing to take it.

“Come on, Buck.  You know I don’t belong here-”

“Neither do I, I don’t belong here any more than you do,” Bucky can’t help the slight color of desperation, of anger in his voice.  How can Steve even think of leaving him here?  Leaving him behind?

“I- I’ve thought about this for a few weeks.  I don’t want to leave you, I never want to leave you, but I just, I don’t think I can stay,” Steve is staring at the ground now, the guilt palpable in his eyes, his posture.  He knew what his absence would cost the world, would cost the Avengers, would cost Bucky.  Did he know how much it would cost Bucky?  Did he really know?

Bucky can feel panic rising in his throat, the idea of being left alone in a big, wide world, a world without Steve?  How does he tell Steve to stay?  How does he tell Steve that he can’t live without him?

“Steve-”

Steve cuts him off before he can even start, like he can read his mind.  There were days that Bucky had wondered if maybe he could.

“I know how it seems, that I’m running away.  From the world, from you.  I’m not Buck, and I don’t want you to think- I just...I saw her, Peggy, when we went to get the stones, and I swear I saw this vision, this future of my life with her, what my life would be.  And that’s what I want.  Natasha, Tony, they sacrificed everything, and maybe I have too.  They told me to get my own life…this is a way I can do it.”

Bucky doesn’t say the words bubbling like acid in his chest, words that he had kept down, hidden, away from everyone since he was sixteen years old.  Words that he wanted to say to Steve, things he wanted Steve to know, he way he felt about Steve, the way Steve made him feel when he looked at him for a second too long.  Words that would be left forever unsaid except inside Bucky’s head, before his dreams turned to flashes of long-dead nightmares.  He had never been a hero, only a coward, and his inability to say these words proved it.

Now was no time to be a hero.

“Okay, Steve.  Okay,” is all that comes out of his mouth, and even though he can feel his heart rip into two, the smile that Steve gives him is almost worth it.

“I’m still with you.  Always.  Til the end of the line,” Steve points to the little book in Bucky’s hands, “I’ll be right there.”

Bucky can’t say anything, and Steve is watching him with what looks like longing in his eyes.  Does he want Bucky to beg him to stay?  Bucky wants to, he wants to with all his heart, but if this is what’ll make Steve happy…

They lean forward at the same moment, and Bucky tries to let all his feelings, all those unsaid words that were trapped in his throat bleed into the embrace.  He’ll never be able to say them, never be able to look Steve in the face and tell him everything, tell him the whole truth, but if he could let the contact with his skin be some kind of reminder, maybe he would learn to accept that that was enough.

Steve is the one to break the embrace, and Bucky can feel the heat of him lingering on his skin, and Bucky clings to the feeling, trying to commit the way Steve held him to memory, placing it in the empty space where the Winter Soldier used to be, letting this memory bloom and sprout like a beautiful garden, filled with forget me nots and daffodils, the perfect mixture of blue and blond.  Bucky swears to himself that he’ll tend this garden, feeding it with the memories of Steve, the memories that not even HYDRA could take from him.  He and Steve spending all day at the movies, laughing at the commercials and eating too much popcorn.  He and Steve getting their apartment together in Brooklyn, sleeping on the floor for three weeks because they couldn’t afford beds.  Finding each other again in the middle of a war-torn Europe, Bucky accepting that Steve was suddenly taller than him.  These memories would be the water, the sun in the sky to the garden in his mind, the garden of flowers that would be a constant reminder of Steve.

“You’ll be fine, Buck.  I believe that.”

“I’d like to believe it too.”

Steve smiles again, reaching out to run his hands through Bucky’s long hair.  Bucky closes his eyes at Steve’s touch, leaning into the warmth of his fingers.

“Just take a look at the list if you feel lost,” Steve pulls Bucky in again, hugging him tightly.  

“I’ll miss you, Steve,” Bucky blurts out, still holding onto the sleeves of Steve’s jacket with all his might, refusing to put any more space between them.  Steve huffs a little laugh, meeting Bucky’s eyes with a smile, with acceptance, with anticipation, with joy.

“I’ll miss you too, Buck.  But it’s time for me to go.”

The notebook had become the piece of Steve that Bucky could cling to, that and Steve’s dogtags, which had been folded tenderly in the back with a scribbled note from Steve:

Keep these safe for me.  I’ll see you on the other side.  Always, S.

Bucky had gotten better now, he only read that note ten times a day instead of fifty, a hundred, a thousand.

He had taken his time, going through the pages of things that Steve had wanted him to see, sometimes imagining that Steve was there with him watching Rocky for the first time, trying Thai food from a restaurant down the block from their old building, or listening to Nevermind. Steve had been right, he was with Bucky in everything he did, every new thing that he tried. His garden of memories continued to bloom, all blue and yellow and gold, maybe with just a hint of green.

Maybe this was why Bucky had put his list to make amends in the same notebook.  Maybe, just maybe, Steve would be with him when he spoke to these people who he had so deeply wronged as well.  He liked to think it worked, that Steve’s warm hand was on his shoulder as he worked to make amends, even if sometimes he had to work up to it, or made the wrong step (though really, was what he did to that Senator really the wrong step?). Steve’s notebook became their notebook, and it was a living memory of Steve, one that grew like the garden in Bucky’s mind.

Bucky also makes a list, in the very back of the book, next to Steve’s last note to him, of things he wanted to tell Steve.  

There was a bluebird outside my window today, you’d have loved it.  

I was thinking of buying an old motorcycle and fixing it up, remember when we almost died that summer trying to race our old ones around the block and the brakes gave out?

Thai food is definitely a yes.  So is Star Trek.  You’d be a gold shirt, I think I might too.

Bucky keeps the back of the book a secret, never writing one of these notes in front of another soul.  These were for him and for Steve alone, a reminder that, no matter where in time and space Steve Rogers was, Bucky would always be thinking of him, always growing that garden of blue and blond memories in his mind.

1) I feel close to Maya, cause unluckly I'm seeing myself in her (outbursts, snapping, control freak about everything that's around her)... But maybe we can't just blame her. I mean she's got problems and she's rude. But Carina (don't get me wrong, I love Carina!!) is pushing so much. Hmm, I would absolutely grant that Carina should be respectful of Maya’s space and I originally was even like, well, if she’s got so much out there it’s making the kitchen difficult to use or if her stuff’s too...fragrant (coming from another culture where the food is not shy about how it smells, I can only sympathize :P), I’d get that, but the show seemed to go out of its way to point out that objectively the stuff was fine, Maya even called it wonderful. It wasn’t how much but that it was there at all, it was bothering that part of Maya that needed to be in control. And Carina can’t walk around on tiptoes for fear of what reasonable thing might set off Maya, that’s super unfair to her, especially after it was Maya who messed up bigtime and promised to do better.

And like, I’m not just blaming Maya, I have lots of sympathy for her, but the double edge of only ever seeing Maya’s perspective is that while we sympathize with her, we also get an in-depth look at her making the mistakes. That’s really all people are pointing out, that there’s just no balance, don’t we get any of Carina’s perspective in this? In that particular ep, what could she have done differently when Maya simply didn’t talk to her about it?

Aww, well, I mean, of course I don’t know which traits may have different significance for you but someone who likes food and likes to cook and who’s ESL...these aren’t at all bad traits? Favourite episode of OBX? has to be ep 7 because jj is my favorite character and you see his vulnerable side in that episode and also because i’m not the biggest fan of john b and strongly believe that jj, pope and kie are definitely way better friends on their own than with john b and it really shows how close they are in the hot tub scene and how they are basically the only family jj has.

Why did you start writing (or doing whatever you specialise here on Tumblr)? I guess the only original thing I do on here is post gifs and I posted like 3 edits. I started editing because I really liked looking at edits and thought they were really cool plus I had nothing better to do. and then I started making gifs because I made one and everyone really liked it so I thought why not make more. I don’t have a deep answer for this sorry-

Saver or spender? definitely saver, I do spend money but with a lot of hesitation and only when i really really want something.

Who’s your OBX OTP? I used to ship kie and jj, but I think that’s severely problematic since kie has kissed john b and then at end of the season started something with pope, so if she were to get with jj it would seem like she can’t keep things platonic with her guy friends and we all know that kie isn’t that type of person. I also think that kie likes girls like she’s either a lesbian or pansexual, so I would like to see her with a girl next season. but apart from that I don’t have any otp’s in the show, I do think pope and kie are cute tho.

What’s your ambition? it’s really cheesy but i’m a huge animal lover anyone who knows me knows that I would do anything and everything i can to protect animals and make sure that they are being treated right so probably just to try and educate people on certain animals who are usually portrayed as bad and get killed a lot and obviously they don’t deserve that so try to protect them especially the endangered ones.

Place or thing on your bucket list? place would have to be France or Italy, im in love with everything french and italian, the cultures, the people, the languages, the food, the places themselves. and another thing on my bucket list, i really want a snake my family won’t let me get one but i’m getting one this year whether they like it or not😤 also getting my driving license and getting a tattoo and i can finally do those both this year since i’m turning 18.

you’ve picked one of the hardest ones for me aha. also im bout to explain my pov quite a bit because i cant sleep and might as well do something semi productive

okay, so my first instinct is to say the og isak. he was the right levels of bitchy, messy and depressive tendencies for me to relate completely. gifs of og isak were the first i ever saw of skam (like most of the tumblr base). I really enjoyed his friendship dynamics because something that I dont think we collectively talk about enough is that from the outside isak seems innocent and people trust him quite quickly. like eva trusted him in s1 with her and jonas, he got pchris to trust him with the fight stuff, and the way emma threw herself into their relationship, she evidently trusted him a lot. plus, jonas trusted that he’d sneak the weed out. and each time he did something (with the fight as the exception) to let down that trust. he told evas secret, hid the week in evas house, led emma on, etc. i just find that so interesting because he knows how to manipulate but in like…a passive way? he doest always do it intentionally but he still does it, and can get people to trust him with their shit even when he knows he isnt up to a level of caring that he would need to keep it all safe, if that makes sense? plus, isaks dialogue is one of my favourite portrayals in the skam-verse because he talks like the norwegian equivalent of half the lads i know whereas some versions feel a little stiff or forced with certain dialogue.

that being said, matteo florenzi exists. he definitely was not my favourite s1 version of isak. honestly, i think it was his early instagram that i found off putting, because it made it appear as though ‘likes weed’ was going to be the only explored personality trait. he didnt seem to be in s1 as much as isak was, even though he probably was. his presence just felt lesser. it wasnt until s2 when they seemed to decide to focus his personality a bit more to prep for s3. at partys he’d be engaged but still a little subdued and usually bypassing the dancing, and lets be honest the shirts won me over. the fact that we saw a continuation of the matteo/hanna dynamic in s2 also helped a lot i think, because it meant he was in s2 a lot more than isak was, and not just for some fight. then, s3 came a long and thats probably when he surpassed og for me. the fact that they had scenes of him simply existing just lying in bed just humanised him so much more, and while i thought there were some poorly written moments the majority of the dialogue he was given felt genuine. he was snarky, anxiety ridden, and had more quirks that i feel other remakes overlooked. like how michi is italian, so matteo is seen multiple times cooking italian food. he used the same distinct pens. he gets sensory overload when stressed. the scene from ‘neon butterflys’ really sold the character to me because i feel like its a scene ive lived through (hell, stuff like that is the only reason i saved for a year to get some decent noise cancelling headphones) and he felt so realistic. the only thing that couldve made his characterisation better for me, was if he’d addressed his clearly depressive ‘tendencies’ rather than the show kind of fading away from that(looking back, i get why they didnt focus on that in the final 2 eps but it was annoying at the time). 

but yeah. that was a convoluted way to say matteo, with isak in a close second.

honourable mentions: lucas vhd (if hed gotten a season to develope he wouldve been on his way up their because he and isa have my favourite eva/isak dynamic), and shay dixon who needs a season and deserves so much
