↳ LETS BRING IT BACK TO 2009!
↳ these girls gave straight britney spears in the album, a newer concept for the group. with the “y2k” sound sticking around in kpop, they stood out for taking the early 2010s route instead, with all of their songs being reminiscent of that time period
↳ to say fans of krush were shocking is an understatement, their jaws were DROPPED watching the music video and stages
↳ they were the topic of the week on stan twitter. from comments calling them the queens of the 2010s renaissance, to the multiple viral pictures of their styling and concept photos
↳ the official bratz tiktok account posted a video using midas touch and kaeleina freaked out on live for 10 minutes. she also commented on the bratz post “slayyyy 💜” and people demanded a collab… we’ll see if that happens in the future
↳ kaleina and moonsun stole the show with their rap verses while l.i and aeri hit the mark with their vocals. all girls received heavy praise for their stage presence, with many believing this concept suit them perfectly
↳ the members all have writing credits for most of the songs. they explained that they wrote multiple of the songs together and all decided which ones would be on the album
↳ a funny moment of this era was moonsun going on live and playing you think? on repeat for thirty minutes, claiming it was her favorite song on the album. she jokingly told fans that “every time you tell me to play a different song i’m going to keep playing this one” the whole live was so unserious fr
↳ overall, this era really showed a new side to krush. they really hit it hard with the mature vibe that their fans and the girls enjoyed
a/n: AHHH hi cece!! @urmykrushhh this was so fun to make, i tried to give them something with a similar vibe but a slightly different concept. i have a another writing for the girls i’m working on too, but i just got this one done first, i hope you like it! 🫶

Pairing— Day Fairy!Hoseok x Night fairy!reader
Genre— SMUT, fae au, angst, idiots to lovers
Warnings— Oral (F receiving), nipple play, explicit unprotected sex, hair pulling, both praise and slight derogatory dirty talk bc I can’t make up my mind, slight swearing
Word Count— 3.3k
Summary— The summer solstice is here and it’s time to celebrate. Your favorite part of the solstice is that you get to see Hoseok, or rather, the love of your life. It’s too bad you haven’t told him how you really felt, even though it has been centuries. Maybe this year will be different.
A/N— This fic is part of The Fabled Collab hosted by @joontopia, @kimtaehyunq, and @whipped-for-kpop-fics. Hoseok is my sunshine, so I just had to write about him! Thank you to @s0seo and @taegularities for giving me motivation to write. Lastly, huge shoutout to Eden from @thebiasrekkers for making this awesome banner for me! As always, let me know how you guys like the fic! My askbox is always open <3
Fae clans have many holidays and rituals, but solstices are by far the most celebrated. Solstices mark the pivotal event that shifts the seasonal responsibilities between the sun and moon clans. The summer and winter solstice are always the biggest events of the year, with about a week of festivities leading up to the final event.
Sweat ran down your spine as the sun beat down on you. You’ve been holding up a stupid banner for what felt like an eternity.
“Okay wait, you’re gonna hate me but I think we should put it back to where we originally had it,” Sunghoon said with furrowed brows.
“That’s it. We’ve been doing this all morning. Figure this out yourself,” you angrily threw down the banner and stormed off before Sunghoon had the chance to yell at you.
You ignored the friendly calls from other fae that were setting up decor nearby. It was way past your bedtime. Cranky and drenched in sweat, you were definitely not a happy night fairy. Heading straight to the pond, you derobed and found comfort in the cool waters that washed away your stress instantly. You gazed up at the blue sky while floating on your back. The day truly was beautiful, you couldn’t deny that. However, nighttime was better in your very much biased opinion. The dark sky littered with countless stars that glittered like diamonds was an unbeatable sight.
“Hey there sunshine!” a familiar voice interrupted your thoughts. You dipped back into the water and turned to the source of the sound.
“Hey there, perv. Care to join me?” you beckoned.
“I wish I could, but I need to go finalize some plans for the handoff ceremony--”
“It’s the same EVERY year. C’mon Hobi, you don’t need to go,” you whined.
“I’ll meet you back here at sunset, how does that sound?” he tried to appease you.
“Midnight. I’m already exhausted, I don’t wanna wake up early,” you blew raspberries into the pond.
“That’s fair. I’ll see you then okay?” Hoseok waved before flying off.
On top of parties filled with indulgences that would blow the mind of any feeble human, Hoseok was the added bonus that made you eager for each solstice. Admittedly, you two have had some sort of flirtationship going on for the past few centuries. Your friends always teased you about how madly head over heels you were for him. As much as you wanted to believe that he loved you in the same way, something always felt off.
Hoseok always reciprocated your flirtatious advances, but it felt more like a game between friends rather than something substantial. You’ve even observed his interactions with other fairies, and it didn’t seem like he gave you any special treatment. He was simply a good friendly guy that everyone loved, but not the way that you loved him.
You were dying to know how he truly felt about you. All these years of playful banter had been fun, but they had also been simultaneously eating away at you. There’s no way he doesn’t know that you love him. At the same time, what if he thinks you’re just a good friend? You needed to know for sure, and you intended to confront him about it at midnight.
“Good evening,” you greeted Hoseok shyly as you approached the pond’s bank.
“Good day to you sunshine,” Hoseok called back as he kicked at the water.
“How’d the meeting go?” you asked.
“Boring as always. You’re right, it’s the same every year. But the elders still want to go over everything again to ensure that the ceremony is perfect,” Hoseok sighed.
“Thanks for coming to hangout with me even though you’re so busy,” you said, suddenly feeling guilty.
“Are you kidding? I’ve been looking forward to this all day! You’re the perfect person to unwind with after a long day,” Hoseok smiled. There it was. The radiant smile you fell for the first time you ever met him.
“You sure I’m the perfect person for that? What do you do when you’re back in your own land surrounded by other day fae?” you prodded, hoping to steer the conversation onto the ‘what are we’ topic.
“I have my friends there for sure, and I appreciate them too. But it’s different with you. Maybe because I can only hangout with you twice a year. You’re like my super special friend, yaknow?” Hoseok tried to explain.
“Uh yeah, for sure. Like a special playdate kind of thing huh?” you tried to hide your hurt feelings.
“Exactly! You get it. It’s like you’re my favorite dessert that I can only have twice a year,” Hoseok nodded.
“Right…” you whispered softly to yourself. You spent the rest of the night listening to the unfruitful discussions Hoseok had during his meetings. All the excitement over the festival had drained from you. Now, you just wanted it to be over so you can go sulk in peace.
“You’re awfully quiet,” Hoseok observed, “You haven’t interjected once about how stupid our traditions are or how you’re looking forward to having long nights again.”
“Hm? Oh yeah, I’m just tired. Sunghoon really worked me to the bone yesterday, that damn day fairy,” you faked a yawn.
“Hey, be nice! Wasn’t it you who volunteered to help us anyway?” Hoseok shook his head.
‘Yeah, because I thought I’d be able to work with you,’ you thought.
“It was a bizarre streak of altruism, that’s all,” you shrugged.
“Nah, I know you’re a kind fairy deep down!” Hoseok playfully nudged your shoulder. Normally you would welcome this type of physical affection, but for right now it served as a painful reminder that you were merely seen as a buddy.
You actively avoided Hoseok for the remainder of the week, counting down the hours to when it would finally all be over. You made up some lame excuse to not hangout with Hoseok every time he approached you. He must have caught on by the final day, either that or he was extremely busy. Afterall, he was the MC for the entire ordeal.
Apparently, your abrasive reputation preceded you because no one wanted your help with anything. As soon as they saw you coming, they would randomly find themselves very preoccupied with something that made them too busy to talk to you. The only person who would put you to work was Sunghoon, who was one of Hoseok’s best friends. You wondered why he was always so nice to you even when you complained the entire time you helped him.
“That’s the last table! They all look great, thanks for helping with the set up,” Sunghoon gave you a thumbs up.
“You know it’s pointless setting up all these tables. Most of the fairies are just gonna be dancing or fucking all night long, no one is gonna be sitting down,” you said.
“Are you gonna be one of the fairies partying?” Sunghoon inquired.
“Definitely not,” you answered curtly.
“Then I’m happy at least one of these tables will be utilized,” Sunghoon nodded, “Try to enjoy yourself tonight okay?”
“Whatever,” you rolled your eyes.
The entire forest seemed to come alive that night. The trees swayed with the enchanting music while cheers of merriment erupted around the party scene. You sat alone at a mushroom table with your third (or was it fourth?) cup of berry wine. You glared at the fairies who had lost themselves to their pleasures, whether it be the wine or the toadstools, or perhaps even both. Fairies who had given into their more lustful urges could be seen on the outskirts of the dance floor, some in the innocent stages of kissing and others entangled full fledged fornication. Scoffing at the obscene orgy, you stumbled off to get another cup of wine. Even though you weren’t really participating, you had to admit that fairies knew how to throw a party.
“Hey ___, I noticed you’ve been by yourself the whole evening. Want some company?” someone asked behind you as you filled up your mug to the brim. You turned to see two Sunghoons merge to become one hazy Sunghoon in the blink of an eye.
“F-ffuck off Sunghoon,” you slurred.
“I wanted to thank you for all the hard work you did for this year’s summer solstice,” Sunghoon continued, unfazed by your harshness, “Wanna dance to celebrate?”
“Nope,” you answered as you pushed him aside.
“Yeah she seemed pretty pissed dude,” Sunghoon said while taking a large swig.
“At you or in general?” Hoseok inquired.
“Dunno man, she’s always been like that. However, she seemed more aggravated than usual, which is hard to imagine,” Sunghoon chuckled, “Did you do something to her?”
“No! I’ve been replaying everything we talked about at the pond but everything seemed fine! I even told her that she was my super special friend and---oh shit,” Hoseok’s face fell.
“Idiot,” Sunghoon tsked.
Both fae clans had gathered by the main stage, intently listening to the same speeches that the clan leaders have spoken for centuries. You watched apathetically as the everlasting flame was being formally handed over. The crowd roared as the flame changed from a deep crimson red to an icy silver color with a blue hue, signifying that the solstice had come to pass.
If the festival wasn’t wild before, it had only gotten more out of hand after the official ceremony. Seeing the other fairies go wild in every sense of the word made you nauseous. The noise level intensified as you watched your fairy brethren engage in rather promiscuous activities. Someone even beckoned for you to join in the fun, but you just walked away. The only person you wanted to have that kind of fun with was Hoseok. It infuriated you that your thoughts always drifted to him. You filled up your cup one last time and walked away from the ruckus, towards an empty grove. Hopefully you would be able to wallow in self pity in peace there.
The stars twinkled above you, and dim moonlight speckled the ground around you as it shone through the trees. You could still hear the party, but it was much fainter now and served as nice background noise to keep you from drowning in your thoughts. With a deep exhale, you fought to hold back tears. You felt so foolish. Too many years have been wasted in vain for an unrequited love that you should have seen coming. It was so stupid of you to hold onto a sliver of hope that Hoseok would like you back.
“The party is that way,” a familiar voice called out to you.
“Then why aren’t you there?” you didn’t try to mask the annoyance in your voice.
“I saw you walk away, I wanted to check up on you.”
“Why the fuck would you even care?” you sat up and hissed.
“Why are you being so hostile? You’re the one who has been avoiding me all week!” Hoseok raised his voice.
“I’m sure you didn’t have much time to spend with me anyway,” you huffed.
“That’s not true. I spent every moment of my free time looking for you, only for you to turn me away. Can you tell me what’s wrong?” Hoseok calmed down.
“Fine. I’m in love with you, okay? How fucking embarrassing. It hurt when you said that I was your super best friend or whatever. Seeing you afterward just reminded me of how dumb I am,” you couldn’t make eye contact with him.
“Oh sunshine, I’m the idiot. I shouldn’t have said that. You’re my special friend because I like you too. I wanted to spend every second with you this week. I didn’t mean to hurt you like that, I’m so sorry ____,” Hoseok got down on his knees and pulled you in for a hug. You were stunned.
“Why didn’t you say anything sooner then!” you pushed him off.
“I thought it was obvious from the way we flirted!” he argued.
“You’re nice to everyone, it was hard for me to tell,” you pouted.
“My apologies for not being a sourpuss like you,” Hoseok laughed.
“So...what now? It wasn’t really a romantic confession but I guess our feelings are out in the open now,” you whispered as you leaned against him.
Suddenly, Hoseok pushed you back to the ground, straddling your hips. His dark hair nearly covered his eyes as he looked down at you. He was beyond beautiful, his white iridescent wings glittered ethereally in the moonlight.
“Remember when I said you’re like a dessert I can only have twice a year? I’d like to make that a reality,” Hobi smirked. He bent over to kiss you. It was soft at first, his plush lips pressing up against yours. He gently cupped your face with one hand while the other wandered to your chest, undoing your blouse. Lust overtook the both of you as the kiss deepened and Hoseok fondled your breasts. You let out a small gasp as he played with your nipples, rolling them between his fingers.
“Spread those legs for me, sunshine,” he demanded.
You complied, slowly exposing yourself to him. You couldn’t bring yourself to look at him while in such a compromising position. Hoseok gingerly kissed a trail along your inner thighs towards your core. His hot breath against your pussy made you squirm under him in anticipation.
“So impatient,” he chuckled, “Let’s play a game. You have to make eye contact with me while I eat you out. Every time you look away, I stop.”
“You’re evil,” you huffed before reluctantly looking at the beautiful being perched between your legs.
“That’s my girl,” he purred approvingly before spreading your folds with his fingers. His eyes darkened with lust as you watched him lick tantalizingly slow stripes. He could feel your need for more, so he moved up to focus on your clit, giving it special attention as his tongue swirled around it.
You tangled your fingers into his hair, gripping him tighter as he licked your clit faster. All your composure was lost as you looked down at him with pleading eyes.
“What is it? Need more?” Hoseok teased as his fingers traced your entrance.
“Please,” you whimpered.
“Please what?” Hoseok feigned ignorance
“Please touch me,” you said softly.
“We need to work on your begging, but you’re so adorable I can’t say no,” Hobi dove back into stimulating your clit as he slipped a finger inside of you. He smirked at how easily he went in, and immediately added a second finger. The new feeling had you throwing your head back as he grazed your g-spot. Right as things began to feel good, he retracted everything.
“Hobi!” you cried out in frustration.
“You looked away. Remember the rules to our little game?” Hoseok chided. You glared down at him as he immediately picked up where he left off, not giving you time to readjust. Fighting back the urge to close your eyes, soft moans escaped from your lips.
“Ready to cum, my dear ___?” he asked sweetly as his fingers dipped to directly attack your g-spot.
There was no time to give a proper response. Your back arched and your toes curled up as your orgasm overwhelmed you. Drenched in your juices, Hoseok glistened under the moonlight.
“Absolutely gorgeous,” Hoseok praised, “But I’m not finished with you yet,” he leaned in to whisper in your ear.
He unbuckled his trousers, releasing the monster that dangled between his legs. You willingly spread your legs for him, eager for more.
“So needy, you haven’t had enough yet?” Hoseok tsked as he rubbed the tip of his cock along your folds.
Finally, Hoseok began to bury himself into you. He took his time, relishing how your warm walls squeezed him. You closed your eyes in ecstasy, focusing on feeling every inch of him. Once he bottomed out, you wrapped your legs around him in an attempt to bring him impossibly closer. The dark lust that swam in his eyes broke for a second, replaced by the warm smile that made you fall in love with him in the first place. He bent down to kiss you, and you happily reciprocated.
Hoseok moved his hips slowly as he fucked you at a deep yet gentle pace. Mouths still colliding, you shyly licked at his lips. Taking your hint, Hoseok’s tongue met yours. As the kisses deepened with more saliva being interchanged, Hoseok’s thrusts became harsher.
“You’re so fucking sexy. Lemme see that ass baby,” Hoseok growled as he flipped you over.
He smacked your ass twice and watched it jiggle in awe before placing a firm grip on your hips. Almost animalistically, he bucked into you. Your body jolted forward with each thrust. You had never been fucked this hard before, and it was heavenly. Hoseok’s control over his body movement was insane. Your moans grew louder as his hips continuously rolled into you.
One of Hoseok’s hands formed a tight grip on your hair, roughly bringing your head up off the ground. You couldn’t stop your wanton moans from filling the open air.
“H-Hoseok,” you cried out.
“What is it? Is it too much for you?” Hoseok cooed in your ear as he brought your head back even closer to him.
“Mmm-no,” was all you could make out.
“I knew you could take it all, such a good slut,” Hoseok praised as he let go of your hair.
Unable to hold yourself up, you immediately fell back onto your chest. Your fingernails dug into the dirt as you could feel another orgasm swelling up inside of you.
“I’m gonna cum again,” you wailed out.
“I’m almost there, wait for me baby,” Hoseok instructed.
With perfect timing, Hoseok let out a guttural moan as he spilled his seed inside of you. Sounds of pleasure bounced around the grove as you came in unison. Hoseok’s cum dripped down the sides of your inner thighs when he pulled out.
“How did I do, sunshine?” Hoseok asked jovially as you laid on the ground before him.
“You knocked me out. I don’t think I can move for a while,” you weakly answered with a smile.
“Not a problem, we can just stay here for a while, sunshine,” Hoseok laid down beside you, beckoning for you to rest atop his chest.
“I like when you call me that,” you yawned.
“Sunshine?” Hoseok asked.
“Yeah, that. It makes me feel special,” you nodded.
“Is that so? I’m glad it makes you feel special, because you are. You’ve always been the spunky night fairy that everyone knows but is too afraid to approach,” Hoseok laughed.
“What! I am totally friendly! Just not to those who piss me off,” you defended, “Which...I guess is a lot of people so I suppose I see your point. What made you want to be my friend if everyone thought I’m scary?”
“You treated me like everyone else. It always felt like people put on a fake facade around me since I’m the chief’s son. They’re nice to me to try and curry favor with my father, or maybe flirt with me to try and gain some special sort of status. I don’t know. I’m just me,” Hoseok shrugged.
“If it makes you feel any better, you’re my sunshine,” you hugged him.
“That makes me feel great. I’ll do my best to see you more than twice a year, okay?” he kissed your forehead.
“I guess I can clear my schedule and come over to visit you too,” you giggled, “Or maybe we can run away and make a clan of our own.”
“Are you serious?” he asked, “Don’t tempt me. I’d love to go somewhere where no one knows my name or expects anything from me.”
“How about we go to where the day meets the night?” you offered.
“Like what? An eclipse?” Hoseok said as he gazed into the night sky.
“Precisely. We can make an eclipse clan. We only have to do festivals for eclipses, and those are kinda rare,” you giggled.
“Sounds like a good dream, sunshine. Let’s seriously discuss it in the morning when we’re both more sober,” Hoseok kissed your forehead.
“Goodnight, my sunshine,” you whispered into his chest.

crush on you | johnny
title: crush on you pairing: johnny x black!reader genre: fluff request: “Do you think you could do a scenario about Johnny coming home to Chicago and seeing (black) reader from his hometown and confessing his crush on her” word count: 3.6k warnings: some cursing, some kissing lol a/n: this southern girl don’t know a thang about chicago so i had to do some research here, don’t eat me up y’all...i’m trying to experiment with writing from multiple POVs so idk if it makes sense but you can tell me if it doesn’t lol
“Ah, it’s cold,” Taeyong rubs his hands together and puffs warm air into them, though it doesn’t do much to take the chill away.
“It’s that Chicago weather.” Johnny chuckles, largely unphased by the temperature outside. With their recent time off affording them a trip to Johnny’s hometown, Mark, Johnny, and Taeyong decided to visit the Chicago Botanic Garden; though it was mostly Johnny’s idea, since the others are still fairly new to the city.
Every year around this time of the season, the Garden has a light show for the December holidays. Johnny saw it as the perfect opportunity to have some fun while sharing more American festivities with Taeyong and Mark. The other members can never get enough of finding something new and exciting to do whenever they’re overseas.
As they walk through the brightly lit landscape, Johnny catches a glimpse of a familiar face, and his laughter at one of Mark’s jokes trails off. He watches to make sure he’s seeing things correctly; yes, the two girls a few feet away from them. He’s not familiar with the other one, but the first girl is undoubtedly you, someone he remembers from his high school days. Same bright smile, pretty brown skin, and recognizable laughter, though you’ve obviously matured since then.
He tries not to be obvious about staring, but his gaze trails after you like he’s afraid he’ll lose track of you forever. He didn’t really expect to see you again after you both graduated high school, but here you are.
“....you know what I mean?”
“Huh?”
“You totally missed what I said!” Mark sighs. “I’m not telling the joke again—what are you even looking at? You’re completely distracted.”
“A girl,” Taeyong snickers, ducking his head and shoving his hands in his pockets. Mark’s eyebrows rise up to his bangs at that, and Johnny sighs.
“Oh, word? Who?”
Before Johnny can answer, you glance backwards, and the both of you catch eyes. You’re equally surprised to see him, but there is definitely recognition there. He’s almost shocked you remember him; but of course, he’s part of a famous kpop group now, so it’s not impossible to know who he is.
“So it is you,” you say. Your friend gives a knowing grin, and Johnny figures she must’ve been the one to notice he was there. Have you told her about him before? Maybe she’s even a fan of the group.
“You remember me?” Johnny asks, smiling slightly. The 3 men walk up to you and your friend and stop in front of you.
“Well, yes…” you answer. “You aren’t exactly the kind of person one forgets.” Johnny isn’t sure if that’s a good thing or not, but he is admittedly happy that he’s stuck in your mind all this time.
“I could say the same about you.”
You smile politely at that, though you feel a little embarrassed, too. You’re unsure what to say next, and your friend has to come in to save the day once again.
“You can walk with us if you want, the tour’s more fun in a group anyway.” The guys look at each other as if trying to decide if this is a good idea or not, though Johnny seems to have made his mind up already. Still, he leaves it open for you to decide when he says,
“I mean, if you really want us to come. We wouldn’t wanna disturb the good time you’re having or anything…”
“Dude, they’ve already invited us,” Mark snorts.
“Stop playing hard to get, you’re not very convincing,” Taeyong says in Korean, shaking his head at Johnny’s posturing.
Your friend giggles to no end, and all you can do is shake your head at her. “Yes, it’s totally fine. Come on!” You pull your friend along and wave for the other guys to follow.
Soon, though, your friend ends up hanging back a little with Mark and Taeyong as you and Johnny talk, walking through the colorful gardens.
“How long are you gonna be in town?” you ask, studying the small glittering lights all around you.
“A couple weeks,” he answers. “We got some time off, so…I wanted to come back home.”
“That’s nice. I can imagine it would get a little lonely being away from home all the time.”
“It can be, but you get through it…what about you? How’s life been treating you?”
“I’ve been fine...working and just living life and all that. I’m thinking about getting another degree or something, you know, just to feel more accomplished with myself...I mean, nothing as extravagant as being a worldwide star,” you say, laughing as you look at him, “but it’s life.”
“It’s great to be able to do that, though! You should be proud. If you decide to.” Johnny talks excitedly, almost like he thinks there won’t be enough time to say whatever he wants to. You nod at his words, grinning slightly at his fast talking.
“I think you’re right.” You look out across the way to see the tiny snowflakes that have begun to fall more rapidly. They’ve been coming sporadically for the past hour or so, but they’re falling more frequently now.
“Oh, you have one on your eye...” Johnny points to your face and you look at him quizzically. “A snowflake.” You let him get closer to brush it off your eyelash, though it quickly melts under his body heat.
“Thanks,” you say, your body warming from his actions.
Before you know it, your little group has walked around much of the gardens already, and the air is getting cold enough to make your teeth hurt from the chill. “Well, I guess we should be heading home soon,” you say, glancing over to your friend who looks to be having the time of her life with the other 2 men. She pouts at your words.
Johnny nods solemnly. “I’d like to talk to you again, especially since we haven’t seen each other in a while...could I get your number?” Your friend giggles behind you, and you have to resist the urge to give her a look.
“Is that a good idea? I don’t want your managers coming after me with pitchforks or something,” you say jokingly, but you’re partly serious about it, too. Johnny waves his hand, smirking as if it’s not important.
“That’s not a problem. They’re our managers, but they can’t run every aspect of our lives.” Taeyong gives a skeptical look at that but says nothing.
Biting your lip, you decide to take a chance with it. After swapping numbers, you say your goodbyes, with you nearly dragging your friend away as she takes her sweet time smiling and waving. “Girl. If you can manage to calm down on the way home, I’ll find a way to set you up with Taeyong or something, but chill!”
“Girl...don’t say that lightly, I’m holding you to it.”
Johnny lies on his bed in his childhood bedroom, scrolling through his phone. He looks through your Instagram page to see what you’ve been up to for the past few years. Maybe he should feel like more of a creep about it, but Instagram’s contact syncing feature made it ridiculously easy to find your profile, whether he was actively looking for it or not.
Mark already knows what Johnny is up to, and his interest is instantly piqued. “Hyung, how long are you gonna stalk her IG from your private account? This is like the 500th time in 3 days. Just call her if you miss her that bad.” Mark giggles mischievously as he says this. He tries to look over the other man’s shoulder, but Johnny shifts away from him, trying to shield his phone.
“It’s not the 500th time,” Johnny argues, his ears turning pink at being caught red-handed.
“You’re right, it’s the 501st time,” Mark says, making a grab for the older man’s phone. Johnny twists away from him, but he’s not quite fast enough to miss Mark’s swipe. His phone gets knocked out of his hand, though it thankfully hits the bed instead of the floor. Him and Mark end up wrestling around on the bed, with Johnny putting the younger boy in a headlock. Taeyong watches in amusement as the two fight.
“You’re doing too much,” Johnny says, rolling his eyes after letting Mark go.
“I’m doing too much, but you’re the one choking me out,” Mark huffs, fixing his disheveled hair.
In the mad scramble for his phone, Johnny realizes he’s accidentally liked one of your photos and he feels the back of his neck burn with embarrassment. Will you notice it and wonder who the faceless account liking your pictures is? “Fuck,” he blurts out, wondering if he should unlike the photo. You would’ve already gotten the notification for it, so what’s the point?
“What’s wrong?” Mark asks, unable to resist the urge to peek over Johnny’s shoulder again. Johnny elbows him away, and Mark yelps when he gets caught in the stomach.
“Dumbass, you made me accidentally like a photo...one from 2 years ago.”
“It doesn’t matter. I doubt she even cares or will notice it.” Taeyong pipes up from his spot across the room.
“Are you sure? Who isn’t gonna notice a weird ass private profile liking a 2-year-old post?” This time, Mark rolls out of the way before Johnny is able to cuff him upside the head.
Taeyong sucks his teeth. “It really doesn’t matter. You already have her number! Who cares about accidentally liking an Instagram post? She won’t know it’s you either way. Like Mark said, just call her and stop freaking out about it.”
“The fact that she gave you her number at all means she doesn’t see you as a total weirdo, so you have a chance of everything working out,” Mark says, lying back on the bed with his arms behind his head.
“Somehow, I’m not sure if that makes me feel worse or better.”
It doesn’t take Johnny very long to lure you out of your home once you start texting each other. On Friday, you get a message from him that reads:
12:02 P.M. Johnny 🧸 Do you wanna hang out somewhere?? Like today?
12:03 P.M. Very last minute of you, lol. Depends on where you’re gonna take me
12:03 P.M. Johnny 🧸 🙃 I know a spot
12:04 P.M. Where would that be?
12:04 P.M. Johnny 🧸 Do you trust me??
12:04 P.M. ?! Trust you? I’m scared. Where are you even taking me lmao
12:05 P.M. Johnny 🧸 Somewhere cool. But you gotta trust me first. I can show you a whole new world
12:06 P.M. Please. You’re such a cornball :( But okayyy, I’ll go
You give him your address and go to get ready afterwards. You’re unsure what to wear, but it’s always freezing cold this time of year, so you figure you’re safe with bundling up no matter where you’re going.
Johnny comes to pick you up not long after, and you go out to meet him in his car, which is idling in your driveway.
“You look really cute,” Johnny says after you get into the car, his lips curling into a little cat-like grin.
You try to play it cool, though you can’t stop the smile that spreads on your lips. “Mmm, thanks.”
You two make casual small talk on the way to your destination, talking about what you did that week, what you plan to do next week, and the weather—which is cold, cold, and more cold.
You sit up straighter once you finally get to where you’re going, your eyes widening a bit as you look out the window. “The Museum of Contemporary Photography? I don’t think I’ve been here before.”
“Even better. It’s always fun to have a brand-new experience.”
“I’m a little surprised though, you made it sound like we were going on some dangerous mission,” you say laughingly as you both walk into the museum. There’s already a decent amount of people present, lingering around and looking at the exhibits. “Do you live for drama or what?”
“Drama, excitement, it’s all the same thing. It’s what makes life interesting.”
You and Johnny walk through an exhibit from a photographer with a wealth of city and natural scenery photos, though there are a few portraits scattered throughout. Most of them are in black and white, with a smattering of full-color pictures grouped together.
“I haven’t been to a museum in a long time,” you sigh, tucking your hands into your pockets as you walk along a wall of monochrome photos. “I forgot what it’s like to sit back and appreciate art. Sad, huh.”
“Maybe not sad,” Johnny says, trailing after you. “Sometimes life just gets in the way and you can’t do everything you want to.”
“Doesn’t it? I’m sure you’re familiar with that, though...it really has been a while since I’ve been able to actually enjoy something simply for the sake of enjoying it.”
“That’s why I’m here!” Johnny says this cheerfully, his eyes twinkling like he’s just found the answer to all your problems. Or your biggest one, at least. Your face cracks at his goofy grin, and you duck your head while holding in your laughter. “Really, though. What if it was fate that we met up like we did, not even knowing we were gonna be at the same place?”
“Then I’d say the universe has a funny way of operating,” you say, observing a photo of a nighttime skyline.
When you get to the end of the exhibit, Johnny holds his hand out to you. “There’s something I wanna show you.”
You glance at his eyes, which are achingly sincere, and look away when you find you’re too nervous to hold his gaze for long. Though you hesitate for a moment, you take his hand, which is calloused and warm in your own. “Lead the way.”
He takes you further into the museum, eventually leading you to an exhibition room filled wall-to-wall with images of flowers. Your senses are a little shocked by the barrage of colorfulness, a sure contrast to the other artist’s work. Some of the images are big enough to take up half the wallspace, and they’re detailed enough for you to see even the tiniest lines in the flowers’ petals.
“This is amazing,” you whisper, walking closer to see the images in their full glory. You’re not sure if it’s weird to still be holding Johnny’s hand, but he hasn’t let go, so you figure it’s okay.
“I remembered you really liked flowers when we were in high school, although I couldn’t remember which kind…you always wore this one flower pin on your backpack, though.”
“The same one I eventually lost.” You frown a bit at that. It was long ago, but the memory still bothers you; you never found it after it went missing.
“Yeah. I felt kinda bad back then because you seemed pretty upset about it, so…” Johnny shrugs. “I know it’s not the same thing, but…”
“I can’t believe you remembered all that. Or even noticed it, really.” Your heart beats a little faster, though you try to ignore it. This can’t just be a nice gesture between old classmates, right? “Thank you, really. I appreciate this.” You squeeze his hand a little tighter in yours. Johnny smiles at you and squeezes back.
“Are you hungry?” Johnny asks when you get back in the car. You stretch your hands in front of the air vents and shudder at the warm air on your palms, and Johnny’s heart skips a little beat at the cute display.
“Sure. I don’t know what to eat, though...what about you?”
Johnny taps his fingers against the steering wheel. “Hmm, I know a place.”
You glance out the window as the museum’s scenery fades out of view and gives way to the roadway again. It’s not that late yet, but the sun is already looking heavy in the sky—one of your least favorite things about winter. “You seem to know a lot of good hangout spots,” you say teasingly. “But I’m not surprised. You were quite well-known even back then.”
Johnny laughs, a bit embarrassed. “I don’t know about that.”
“Oh, please. A lot of people liked you. Girls, especially.”
Johnny wants to ask you the question that’s just popped into his mind, but he decides to save it for when you get to the restaurant, instead biting his lip and turning your words around in his head.
Johnny ends up taking you to a charming little restaurant that has just about anything you can imagine on the menu, which changes almost daily. You’re not sure how they pull that off with being a little local spot, but you’re not complaining.
The two of you take a table and talk more as you wait for your food to come, moving past the small talk and delving more into your school years. You spend a while there talking and eating, and the hours pass before you’re aware of it.
Johnny watches you sip at your smoothie as the last rays of the evening sun spread across your face, illuminating your eyes and coily hair with their warmth. If he stares any longer, it’ll probably get weird, but he doesn’t want to stop looking. The same feeling that’s got him unable to look away compels him to finally just say something, so he doesn’t think twice when he tells you,
“I’ve always liked you, you know.”
You blink, turning from the window to look at him.
Johnny looks bashful after speaking, which you’re a little surprised about, because you’ve hardly ever seen him look hesitant or afraid about much of anything until today. You stare at him with your eyes incredulous and your straw halfway to your mouth.
“What?”
Johnny chuckles a little, though he feels a little less confident even though he hasn’t received your answer yet. “I like you. When we were in high school, I—yeah. I had a crush on you. Have, I mean—I still do.”
You’re initially unsure how to take this big reveal, especially knowing he still likes you after all this time has passed. Maybe you suspected it from his behavior over the past few days and today, but it’s still a little hard to digest when you know he has thousands of girls throwing themselves at him.
“Why didn’t you say anything while we were in school?” is the first thing you can think to ask.
He shakes his head, looking at his hands. “I don’t really know,” he says weakly. “I thought, maybe, you wouldn’t be interested in me. We weren’t even in the same social circles.”
“Wouldn’t be interested in you...?” you repeat, clasping your fingers together and trying to steady yourself. Your heart is definitely racing right now. “Johnny, I…”
“You don’t have to give me an answer now,” Johnny rushes out. “O-or ever? I just...wanted you to know, I guess...since we’ve met up suddenly and I don’t know if we’ll have this chance again—”
“I...I like you too.”
Johnny’s quiet for a few seconds, registering what you’ve just said, and then he grins widely. “Aww, you like me—that’s so cute!” He grasps your hands as he says this, and you give him a disbelieving look.
“Wow, really?! You’re the one who just confessed to me!” You can’t stop yourself from giggling, though, as he brings your hands to his lips and kisses them all over. “How am I gonna deal with you?”
“You’ll just have to figure it out, ‘cause I’m all yours now.”
The moon is out by the time Johnny takes you back to your place. He insists on walking you to the door even though it’s only a few feet away, and you indulge him on it because you definitely like the extra time being in his presence.
“I’m glad you came out with me today,” he tells you, his eyes warm.
“I’m sure you are, you got a whole girlfriend out of it.”
Johnny smirks at that, leaning into you. “Does this count as our first date, then? Because if it does, there’s something else I want to show you...”
“And what would that be?” you ask Johnny, leaning closer to him in answer to his increased proximity. His response is to close the gap between you, his lips meshing themselves with yours. He kisses you like that for a while, not wanting to let you go, though you eventually have to part to catch your breath.
“Your lips were cold! Felt like I was kissing a vampire at first.” Your breaths puff out in front of you as you say this, laughing lightly. Johnny leans forward and you think he’ll kiss you again, but he tucks his face into the side of your neck, pulling your scarf down, and places a kiss there. You shiver a little at your neck being exposed to the cold, but also for reasons more related to the sensation of his lips on you.
“Does this remind you of a vampire, too?” Johnny murmurs, kissing his way up from the side of your neck to your cheek.
“You’re crazy.” You push his chest, though he pulls your arms to keep you close to him. “You’re gonna get us arrested for public indecency. Have you had enough yet?” You giggle, giving in to his efforts and wrapping your arms securely around his neck.
“Not yet,” he says, pecking your lips again with a smile. “Gotta make up for lost time.”

dont apologize for wanting interaction! tumblr has been weird and quiet recently, and ive been meaning to fill you in but im in a really weird headspace right now and haven't managed to. Its been odd not talking to you though. Festival was last week for band, and that was a whole experience. We did pretty well and overall got the highest score although we got a 2 in sight reading for no reason we were told. It also reminded me of how horrible wearing clothing that makes me uncomfortable (1/?) bg
makes me feel and I ended up wearing a flannel over the choir dresses that fit absolutely no one. I also ended up with half of my clarinet shoved between my tits because it was very cold from being in the trailer and that was the best way to warm it up at the moment. I really don't know how to sit in skirts. and then I skipped school to go to Chicago for the day on Monday so that was super fun. im still exhausted though lmao. ive thrown myself headfirst into pentagon and started (2/?) bg
a bunch of new fics that will probably never be finished. So the usual. oh and a pretty girl told me my laces were cool while I was skating last week and I spent the rest of the time looing at her lmao. however my dreams are coming true just a little bit because I get to go to a dance at the math/science place my school has and its a masquerade theme!! in other words my favorite thing ever. Shakespeare, fanfics, all of it. perhaps ill dance with a masked stranger whos not actually (3/?) bg
a stranger but the girl I kind of like and then she'll fall in love with me. Or ill just make a fool of myself and talk kpop the entire time with my friend who im going with. truly a mystery. but anyway, I hop eeverythings going well for you and also that im always thinking of you! I might disappear for a while but I always keep up to date on what you post so im always here even if you don't know it! (4/4) - band geek (sorry this is so long ashljk)
I only apologize because literally no one is obligated to speak to me ever, on tumblr or otherwise lol but I do think about my regular anons all the time and even people that aren’t mutuals but just people I follow if they haven’t been awhile. I just hope everyone’s living their best lives all the time. Is that so much to ask?!?
This was so much, you don’t have to be sorry about it, I loved every second. I just don’t know where to start or what to comment on. 😂
So I’ll just say... I’m sorry you were/are in a weird headspace, I get that big time. Also good to know they’re still making choir students wear uncomfortable clothes. Lolololol. Tell me your fave Pentagon songs! And I hope you get to dance with that girl. Maybe that will happen to you and then I can bump into my work crush and they’ll both fall in love with us and then we’ll be like “This is so cool.” And it will be cool.

2019: A Year in Kpop
Dickens once wrote in his novel, A Tale of Two Cities, “It was the best of the times, it was the worst of the times”. This phrase aptly sums up the year of 2019 for Kpop - a moniker for Korean Pop. Some called 2019 the best year for Kpop in this decade while others called it the worst year of Kpop.
In my last review, I wrote how 2018 was a big year for Kpop as it wrecked havoc much of the western world like a storm. And as expected, in year 2019, Kpop is just getting even bigger and gaining more momentum outside its safe haven of South Korea and the larger Asian continent in general. Known for its dedicated and strong fanbases, Kpop industry has become a commodity. The soft power of Kpop — and the corollary fashion and beauty industry — catapults the South Korean economy, racking in billions of dollars back into the country, especially with the success of the global acts like BTS and BlackPink. Suddenly, everyone wants a bit of Kpop. The western media were scurrying to appeal and sign on with Kpop acts such as BTS, BlackPink, Monster X, Ateez, TXT and SuperM to name a few. 2019 saw Kpop acts appear in many American TV shows and music festivals, as well as performing concerts in many cities. In all, it is safe to say that Kpop has taken ground in America.
To begin, 2019 is a year of BTS. A year ago I also said 2018 was the year of BTS. I told my friend that BTS has such an amazing year in 2018. To that, my friend replied: BTS hasn’t even reached their peak yet. I was a little skeptical back then. How much bigger would they get? Oh boy I was wrong. 2019 is a huge year for BTS — and even huge might be an understatement. For those who are still unaware, they are the biggest boyband in the world right now. A short for Bangtan Sonyeondan or literally Bulletproof Boyscouts, BTS broke many records and took home countless of awards this year with the release of Map of the Soul: Persona. The album takes inspiration from Jung’s thesis in psychology of the same name: Map of the Soul. Following Persona, fans are expecting that Shadow and Ego could be the next releases. For the first time since the Beatles, they had three number one album in Billboard 200 within a year. This year, the septet completed their world stadium tour and sold millions of seats, with historic performance in Wembley London and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, for me, it is the performance for the MMA stage that left strong impression, especially so the solo performances.
Moreover, their single Boy-with-Luv, a collaboration with Halsey, is named the song of the year in Korean year end music awards, broke the Youtube records, and last but not least loved by many. Boy-with-Luv (Korean name: A Poem for Small Things) is a catchy pop-song with bubbly and cheerful tones complementing the visuals. The B-side tracks also shine with Mikrokosmos being the feel-good song and Make it Right, composed by Ed Sheeran, as your mainstream chill-pop song. Home is my personal favourite with its jazz and R&B textures, followed by Jamais Vu for its interesting musicality. The album ends with Dionysus, a hard-hitting hip-hop of old school Bangtan.
If the Kpop boy group is dominated by BTS, one could said BlackPink is the counterpart for the girl group. BlackPink released its most anticipated comeback yet with Kill This Love which top many charts. Kill This Love was briefly named the most viewed MV in YouTube, only to be sidelined by BTS’ Boy-with-Luv just a week after. Kill This Love is a marching-band style hip hop song that is a typical of BlackPink hard-banging repertoire. This comeback pulled through YG amidst the scandals embroiling their senior group Big Bang and YG’s executives. Some might even call BlackPink as a saviour for YG. However, fans lamented for the lack of supports for BlackPink, arguably the sole powerhouse of YG right now, with Kill This Love remains but another mini album. To date, BlackPink, a three-year old group has not released a full album yet. In this album, Don’t Know What To Do is my personal favourite, followed by Kick It and Ddu Du Ddu Du remix. Admittedly, Ddu Du Ddu Du was the most successful BlackPink release ever, with the MV crossing the 1B stream in YouTube this year. BlackPink too went for a successful world tour and was featured in Coachella this year.
Now that we have cleared the big acts of 2019, let us sails through the rest of the Kpop acts. Older and senior groups like EXO and Super Junior made comebacks this year as well with Obsession and Super Clap respectively. With the members starting military services, remaining active EXO members such as Baekhyun and Chen releasing solo songs and Chanyeol and Sehun as duo. In addition to individual EXO members having busy schedule, it is no wonder and expected that we will only getting only one comeback each year. The following year we may expect more solo activities or subunits as well, especially with more members serving the military. Meanwhile, Super Junior is finally coming back as a full group, with Ryeowook and Kyuhyun ending their military service.
It is worth mentioning that Seventeen, another rising star in Kpop is having a big year in 2019 with three releases, Home, Hit and Fear. Of those, Home catapults Seventeen to greater height earlier in the year. In my opinion, Home appeals to larger audience, while Hit is a banger and Fear just okay. Seventeen, known for their amazing vocals and dance synchronisation, is going for world tour in 2020. We can expect big thing from Seventeen. Meanwhile, MonstaX has a bumpy year in 2019. Embroiled with controversies, MonstaX saw Wonho leaving the group in the second half of the year, shocking fans both in Korea and internationally. This was a major setback given 2018 had been a big year for MonstaX. They were featured in many American shows as well as making cameo in Bare Bears series. We can only hope Wonho and the rest of MonstaX members are are coping well through this unfortunate incident. Alligator and Follow were two major releases from MonstaX this year. Both are arguably typical MonstaX sounds. Other acts like Got7, Nuest, Winner, NCT also make comebacks, but are lacking the hypes compared to Seventeen and MonstaX. Perhaps, NCT 127 who are riding into their popularity in America is worth a special mention. However, Superhuman isn’t as powerful as Regular or Simon Says. NCT dream meanwhile, cameback with Boom Boom, which surprised me with catchy chorus.
In the girl group scenes, Twice has a good year as well. I mean when will Twice not have a good year right? This nation-loved girl group has two major releases with Fancy and Feel Special. Fancy is another Twice-ish song, loved by many and doing well in charts, but pales against Boy-with-Luv and internationally against Kill This Love. In fact, all these songs were released back to back. 2019 is indeed a year fandom war. Besides BlackPink and Twice, Red Velvet made three comebacks with Zimzalabim, Umpah Umpah and Psycho. The first two were the ‘Red’ sound while Psycho ‘Velvet’. To be honest, Psycho trumps them all. Befitting the name, the soft yet piercing high pitch sound is the unique signature of this song. It’s new and fresh. Similar concept to Peek-a-Boo and Bad Boy, Psycho is a must-listen. Unfortunately, Wendy, one of the members suffered injury during the year end music festival and I wish for a swift recovery for her.
Mamamoo was another big girl group that dominated 2019. Riding on the rising popularity in 2018 with their four seasons’ albums, Mamamoo had a comeback with Gogobebe and Hip. Both songs earned high spots in Korean major charts. One of the members, Hwasa also had a successful solo career with Twit, a catchy song laced with flute textures. Other acts such as GFriend, AOA and APink also made comebacks among others. APink, being a senior group among the rest, is worth mentioning for their comeback %%. If you haven’t listen to it, please do. %% was definitely a good song to start 2019.
In the rookie scene, Tomorrow by Together, the new Bighit boy group and the junior group to BTS had an amazing year with two major releases, Crown (Korean: One Day Horns Grew Out of my Head) being the debut song and Run Away (Korean: I Will Wait for You At Platform 9 3/4), their first comeback. Crown is the fun and bubbly pop song with Run Away delivering emo-rock style. We give a round of applaud to TXT (the short form — Bighit with its naming sense) for fresh sounds, setting them apart from the senior group BTS. ITZY, the new JYP girl group also had successful debut year. If TXT is called global Global Super Rookie, ITZY is the Monster Rookie for stellar performance in Korean charts and abroad especially wth Dalla Dalla — though not my kind of sound. One special mention is Oneus with Lit, a banger with Korean inspired sound — think of BTS’ Idol.
The budding acts like Ateez and (G)Idle both have two comebacks this year. The former with Wave, a tropical house sound and Wonderland, a marching band-inspired sound, while the latter, continuing the Latin vibes with Senorita and Lion. Everglow also had successful comeback with releases such as Bon Bon Chocolat and Adios. Both are good catchy summer songs, with Adios being another marching band-inspired sound. It seems that 2020 will see the trend shift to this style of music. Meanwhile, Pentagon made a comeback with Humph!. This was the first comeback after EDawn left the group earlier. Humph! continues to deliver the signature sound of Pentagon, with its minimal layers of instruments.
The solo scene is dominated by Chung Ha, with successful releases such as Gotta Go at the start of the year and Snapping the second half. Chung Ha overshadowed Sunmi, who made a comeback with Lalalay. Lalalay is unique for its retro high-pitch eastern inspired instrumental sound. Big acts like IU and Taeyeon also made huge comebacks this year. IU’s Love Poem and Blueming performed well in charts as usual. Taeyeon had two releases, one at the start of the year with Four Seasons and one at the end of the year with Spark. Both songs did well. In the R&B scene, Heize released We Don’t Talk Together, composed by BTS’ Suga. The song is laden thick with emotions coupled with melancholic instrumental and visual. It seems that females dominated the solo scene, even in the OSTs scenes, with songs from Hotel del Luna blocking the charts. Of which, Heize’s Can You See My Heart?, Taeyeon’s A Poem About You and Paul Kim’s Goodbye are my personal favourites. Correction, Paul Kim is perhaps the only male act worth mentioning here who had a successful year with Me after You, Goodbye and Every Day Every Moment (a 2018’s release!).
In the duo scene, Bolbbagan4 and AKMU had an amazing 2019. Being digital Monster, Bolbbagan4’s releases are loved by Koreans. This year, the duo cameback with Workaholic. Meanwhile, AKMU is finally making a comeback after Lee Chan Hyuk’s release from military service with How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You Are the One I Love. Both songs earned them Perfect-All-Kill (PAK) in Korean charts (after the new system). The other PAK worth mentioning are IU’s Love Poem and Blueming as well as BTS’ Boy-with-Luv — the only PAK with the old system, arguably harder to achieve. Congratulation to all winners.
The band scene saw the rise of Jannabi, the indie band with retro sound. For Lovers Who Hesitate is an ode to the nineties, with its warm and tender retro sound. It’s also worth mentioning that the vocalist of Jannabi has charming and swoon-worthy vocals. Although the band faced some bumpy road that ended up with one member leaving the team, Jannabi is an act to watch for. N-Flying also had a successful start of 2019 with Rooftop. Originally the song didn’t do well in the chart but slowly rising and top the rank eventually, making them a rising newcomer in this industry. That leaves us with mature group like Day6 who has had stable releases over the years. This year Day6 releases Sweet Chaos, an alternative-rock bop.
While 2019 was a good year for many acts, 2019 also saw the rear side of Kpop. I won’t go through them in detail but it’s good to reflect on these series of events and hopefully do better in the next decade. To begin, 2019 is marred by the Burning Sun prostitution and drugs scandal that led to Seungri quitting Big Bang and Yang Hyun Suk leaving YG. Following this, the Jung Joon Young’s scandal on the sharing of explicit content in KakaoTalk, a Korean messaging platform, caused many acts to retire from the entertainment industry and brought others into the spotlight. The floodgate didn’t just stop there, B.I., the leader of iKon was also reported to have purchased drugs some years ago. B.I. left iKon, who had a successful 2018. The end of the year, we also learnt that the Produce 101 series were rigged with briberies and vote manipulations. The producers reportedly picked the final line-ups prior to nation-producers’ final voting counts. That is why also X1 and IZ-one had tough year in 2019, despite both of them having good releases prior to the exposé. I wonder how their future will look like? Lastly, Park Kyung exposed some artists for suspicion of sajaegi, or chart manipulation, that sparked a nationwide discussion. In fact, the issue of sajaegi had been raised up multiple times in the recent years but seemed to have blown-up more this year, with many artists stand in solidarity against sajaegi and fairer system.
Before we end, allow us too a moment of silence. 2019 saw the passing of fx’s Sulli and Kara’s Hara, victims of malicious commenters and haters. It seems we didn’t learn from the passing of Jonghyun two years ago. While we are deeply mourning for the loss, I hope they are now in better place, happy and resting in peace.
In short, 2019 is indeed the best year of Kpop — and the worst at the same time. However, as previously said by Jang Geu Rae of Misaeng: when a project fails, it means we never planned properly, but we shouldn’t throw away the lessons from this failed project, we should learn from the setbacks and plan for better future. Echoing RM’s speech in Golden Disk Awards, we hope that Kpop artists will continue to work hard, produce good musics and be rewarded fairly. Let us hope for better Kpop scene in the new decade.
Happy New Year.

Alienstock
Summary: Vice are the first Kpop group to perform at Alienstock. Warnings: Mentions of alcohol consumption, jokes about having intercourse with aliens, and my poor writing ability. This was all for fun but I’m still keeping it canon, because why not?
◇─◇──◇────◇────◇────◇────◇────◇─────◇──◇─◇
“I cannot believe we’re actually here.” M.H voiced aloud, turning himself in a slow circle to take in the scene around him. Hundreds of young Americans were dressed up in space-themed costumes, often Naruto running side by side and chanting something about clapping cheeks.
“American culture is a beautiful thing.” Geonwu commented dryly, watching the youth around them in a mixture of awe and confusion.
“Everyone say thank you, Joongji!” Ji spread his arms, a wide smile on his face. No one said thank you, but Woodie did give him a clap on the shoulder.
The Area 51 raid went viral world wide months ago. Everyone thought the raid wouldn’t actually happen, but here, in the middle of Nevada, were hundreds of people outside the infamous military base. Joongji had practically begged all week for Vice to attend what they were calling ‘Alienstock’. HBH, after looking into the safety of the trip, finally gave in. The Vice men would be performing in a few hours, making them the first kpop act to perform at Alienstock.
It was an accomplishment that only Joongji really found to be meaningful. Everyone else in the group just followed along.
“Honestly, I thought there would be a bit more uh... stuff.” Kane noted, looking around. It was obvious that the music festival was a last minute idea, as there was no real set up. Unless you counted people tailgating.
Joongji sighed. “Really? No one sees the importance of this day? Today will go down in history. Plus what if we actually... you know... get to find out what’s behind those gates?”
“You sound a little too excited to see an alien, Ji.” Cyth teased, a devilish smirk on his face. “Yeah, the lady aliens won’t want to reproduce with you. They’ll only pick the perfect human male as their mate.” Geonwu joshed. “The chads are supposed to break the first line of defense, there won’t be any ‘perfect human males’ left.” Joongji said in a mater-of-fact tone, referencing the viral battle plan. “Oh, so you think you’ll have a shot at clapping them alien cheeks?” Cyth asked. Before Joongji could defend himself, a slightly familiar blur ran past them, followed by a group of non-familiar blurs.
“Is that Seokyu?” Cyth asked in awe, watching as Seokyu led a group of Americans Naruto running in a straight line. “When did he manage to get away?” “He must have seen them trying to run and decided to teach them, that weeb.” Minho commented, a hint of pride in his voice.
When the horde stopped running, they circled around Seokyu and patted him on the back. Clearly, Seokyu had become one with the festival-goers. After shaking hands with people, Seokyu came back to his group mates.
“Sorry, they needed some guidance.” Seokyu said almost bashfully. “Bro, don’t be sorry! This is what the Raid is all about!” Joongji grinned. “C’mon, let’s mingle with the raiders before it’s time for our stage.”
They spent the next few hours dancing and chanting with the crowd of people. The Americans taught them how to chant “Clap Them Cheeks” and Vice taught them how to twerk. The raiders adored Vice and were amazed to find out that they were kpop idols and that they were on the setlist. The boyband took so many pictures with people dressed up as aliens that they were seeing the after image for hours.
By the time they got to the stage, it was crunch time. They managed to get their stage outfits and make up done just in time for their name to be called. The seven-membered group prepared themselves for a very memorable performance.
ALIENSTOCK STAGE HIGHLIGHTS:
◇ A lot of the people that went to the Area 51 raid had no idea who Vice was, but they still bopped along to their songs. ◇ Their stage outfits were made of that metalic tinfoil-looking material to keep up with that space theme. ◇ People threw blow up alien balloons onto stage and Joongji started grinding with it, which made the audience die with laughter. ◇ Seokyu seemed to be the raider’s favorite, they kept hyping him up whenever he started singing. It’s probably because he literally became one with them, despite the language barrier. ◇ When the dance breaks happened, the crowd went absolutely ballistic, cheering loudly for them. ◇ Minho ended up leading a “clap them cheeks” chant during a break in between songs. ◇ When their set was over, the audience seemed a little upset, but it was all okay when Vice got off the stage and started mingling with people again.

Hey, what do you think is behind the decline in interest in VK in the West? It’s ridiculous how much the fandom has died down. Is it just because of the rise of kpop and the general decline in interest in all sorts of rock? Or are other factors at play - like how toxic the fandom could be?
In my opinion, kpop doesn’t really have much to do with it. People liked visual kei because it was different. What I think is responsible, because I’ve seen many fans admitting they grew out of it because of it, is a list of things (bear with me, it’s gonna be long):
1) disbands: While disbands were always a big thing in the visual kei scene, with more and more people translating stuff for fans and, bands getting on social media used by mostly western fans, like facebook and twitter, more western fans were exposed to how often this actually happens. Some fans maybe thought that visual kei is dying because of it, but truth is, disbands were always there, with smaller bands we might have never heard of, because there was sooo little information for us back then. Also, many big names in the visual kei scene have disbanded the last 5 years, which is why many fans thought that putting so much devotion and spending money on sth that could be destroyed at any moment isn’t worth it. For example (I am sorry if I am not wording this well ^^’), I knew fans who left vkei because they were tired of liking a band and then these bands kept disbanding. There is no stability. American artists and kpop artists do not break up or retire that easily, you know? And some fans want that stability or become too hearbroken when having lost a band they’ve been supporting for 10 years, or sth, and don’t want to go through that anymore (it might sound a little bit too much or dramatic, but there are fans out there who genuinely feel things about these bands, they have found some short of shelter in them and their music, so losing that band might hurt a lot and the best way to move on is by cutting ties with anything like them). In my case, this is the reason I barely like new bands anymore. I like finding newbies and keeping an eye on them but I do not actively follow them unless I am convinced they are in it for the long run. And honestly, so far, I’ve been lucky with this, because most of the people I chose to follow are still around, either as bandmen or sth else, or trying with new bands that I happen to like. Of course, I have lost some favorites too but I get it. It’s a hard life to live and, some people eventually change their mind, but not every fan feels this way and if they do, they try to “retire“ from the whole thing like their favorite artists and move on with their life. (I am in no way saying that a bandman shouldn’t leave his band when he feels like it, even if he is 20 years active. It’s their life, their rules and we should all respect that, but it seems to be hard for many people to do so, sometimes)
2) fandom. Like you mentioned, fandoms can be toxic. It happens with every fandom, though, not just visual kei, so I wouldn’t like to point fingers, especially because I’ve been lucky enough to meet some of my best friends through the fandom, most of whom aren’t even in it anymore. :P I can tell you with certainty that our lack of translators is entirely the fandom’s fault, though. People just don’t get what reblog or share with credits means and some people grow tired of it, you know? Contrary to common belief, translating a video of 30 minutes or an entire interview might take someone more than just a day, maybe even a week, and if people don’t respect that, then unfortunately the translator has to cut being nice to everyone and continue being a fan in privacy (they don’t get paid for this, they got their jobs, their families, but still wish to spend time sharing sth they love with others and helping them learn more about it through translating, even though, between us, some of those translations are illegal because we need permission to translate magazine stuff etc (a visual kei artist once said that, saying yes translations are great but guys be careful because some things are copyrighted and you might get in trouble), but some people just wish to take and take without helping others get to the initial source to find out more, too. I think there are still many visual kei fans out there, they just no longer blog about it because they want to enjoy it by themselves and without the negativity and opinions of anyone else. I started as a private fan for example. I liked fangirling on my own, I didn’t want anyone to intervene with that because it was my sole way of having fun, I didn’t want anyone to ruin it for me, but eventually, I wanted to help the bands spread their info beyond their social media and I am currently running 3 fanpages, 1 of which is on hiatus. I still get shit while doing that, by the way, there are still know-alls among us but I am not going to let anyone spoil it for me. So to cut everything short, I think that fandom could have played its role as to why so many left and why those of us left, became so quiet.
3) Some people might bite for this one but it’s a mixture of “Mainstream“ and “platform“. I believe the best people to talk about this are old-schoolers. When bands like A9 and the Gazette entered the scene, most old school visual kei fans had already started barking about the fact those bands were copying their predecessors and that they don’t really make cool music (they were making shallow stuff for their tastes, aka mainstream stuff). Truth is that, fans of that “new/2nd generation“ visual kei era are acting like old-schoolers did, when their faves came out, to the newbies coming out now, aka people following bands like Xaa Xaa or Kizu. But if you pay close attention you might notice this: When bands like A9 and the Gazette came about, old schoolers seemed to be very few among us, weren’t they? Many seemed to have disappeared and given up, because to them, visual kei was dead. Honestly, I follow many old schoolers right now. They are still around. They just don’t fangirl as loud as the rest of us do. They stick to old pics and the occasional updates from visual kei artists of that time that are still active like Sugizo, Malice Mizer members, Buck-Tick members, etc. This is what I see happening now too. There are still people listening to visual kei of the 2000s. They just aren’t loud enough and the new fans of visual kei are more present on twitter than here or facebook. Why? Because visual kei bands are also on twitter now and they can immediately fangirl on the posts of their favorites by retweeting the pics. (It also adds that some visual kei artists reply to those retweets either with words or likes) So yeah, I think we are few here now because many have moved to twitter and also because new bands sound mainstream to us fans of bands from the 2000s.
4) the Visual Kei scene. Ok, I am not that sure about this but I think it plays a role to this somehow. There are several visual kei artists that claimed visual kei is dead the last few years. I won’t name who cuz only one name comes to mind right now, but I know I had read it from many more people. I don’t know how the visual kei scene is like in Japan right now, but I know there are more bands forming than in the past, most of which are not serious about it (see bands disband within a year). This happened in the past, too, I don’t know to what extent though, but we didn’t know about those as much as those who actually had sth to say and still do to this day. I’ve heard artists complain that the new kids entering the scene have no concept. That all they care about is looking cool and nothing else. They are lucky to have more means of promoting their stuff, though. Twitter reaches out to western fans, some bands get a music video from their first release and maybe cool costumes from their first release, things that bands of older times would beg for, when they started. And still these kids do not use those means as creatively as they could so, they fail to impress the old fans enough to get an active following that fangirls about them everywhere. Not all new bands. But most. Like, Kizu, for example seem to have a vision (i am not their fan by the way, I have just seen some of their stuff and they seem to be in it for real). So, the result of all this, is fans getting bombarded by 100 new bands each year and having hard time sticking to anything. So they just retweet sth and comment about it and that’s it. They do not get into long talks about music or concept or anything because most of these bands have no concept. I dunno, I think it plays a role. And also, sth that I hadn’t thought about and was also brought up on twitter. Some big venues have closed in Japan the last two years and due to the big amount of bands wishing to perform, they are all struggling to find dates to perform. In other words, there is so much competition right now that if you aren’t a big name by now, you gotta wait in line for scheduling your lives. One of my favorite bands was like “yeah no live this week, everything was closed.“ and I was surprised. Also big events have stopped happening. I don’t know if you had experienced that but there was a time Nico Nico, the channel had several bands hosting their own shows. It was mostly PSC bands that did that but due to tough schedule it stopped. There was also the Xmas live, a festival with many bands which was broadcasted each year and that I’ve heard nth about the last two years. The show does still happen they just don’t broadcast it anymore. There was another festival called Stylish Wave. That stopped being broadcasted too so many events that were broadcasted for free are no longer happening so this is why I am saying that we’ve lost lots of the hype from Japan’s side too. I knew so many people who were looking forward to such events and then we’d all gif everything and translate stuff. It’s no longer there though. Only one interview show is still broadcasted on Nico Nico for free, the rest is paid stuff.
So yeah, all in all, these are the basics that I think played an important role in losing western fandoms. Of course, this is just my opinion, many people might disagree. Thank you for the question, I am always glad to exchange opinions on visual kei stuff. ^^

June 1, 2019
Ingvar and I woke up at 4 am Saturday. Wowowowo that’s early! Ingvar and I had spent the week moving his stuff out of his old place, and some of it into mine. He’s spending a few weeks with me in my room, before he leaves for Hawaii for the summer. It’s really nice that he was taking me to the airport! I had packed almost all of my things the night before (and rather well, I might add! I only had four outfits for the weekend packed!), so we left my place around 4:20. We stopped and got gas, and then wanted Starbucks, but all of them were closed in Bellingham!
We hit the road to Everett. I was so excited to try out the new airport! There was no traffic that early, and we ended up stopping at Starbucks in Burlington. Ingvar got a $75 gift card when he left Bank of America (Wednesday was his last day!), so it was his treat. We got to Everett around 5:45, an hour and fifteen minutes before my flight. You can’t do that when you fly out of SeaTac! I said “see you tomorrow” to Ingvar (it was such a short trip but I was happy about it), then checked out the airport.
Security took about five minutes and there are only two gates. The airport felt very much like a lounge! It had fireplaces and a bar and nice couches. I did my make up, then got assigned my seat, 19a. It was a smaller plane, only two seats per row, and only about twenty rows. I boarded the plane, and we took off around seven. I tried to sleep the whole flight, since I slept only about four hours the night before, but the plane was really chilly! I probably got an hour of sleep, which is better than nothing, I suppose.
I landed at LAX around 9:30. I grabbed Starbucks for Haley and I, then she picked me up. It was a good to see her, but the cruise was only about two weeks prior, so it hadn’t been long. We had a busy day planned! We called and talked to Mom and Dad on our way to Haley’s place, where we changed and got ready to go to Universal Studios! I was seriously amped to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Dad paid for our tickets, since we didn’t go to Universal Studios Orlando, which was really nice! Thanks Dad! We took a Lyft to the theme park, since Haley lives so close, and then we wouldn’t need to deal with parking.
Universal Studios has an area around the park with restaurants and stores, called the City Walk. It’s kind of like Downtown Disney in Anaheim and Disney Springs in Orlando. We saw butterfly mural that was done by the same artist the Taylor Swift commissioned for her butterfly mural in Nashville, so that was a cool surprise. The weather was pretty chilly for LA—65! We were wearing sweatshirts, haha. Our main goal was to see Harry Potter World! We went right there and I was amazed! It really felt like I was in the movies! Haley and I got in line for the 4D ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. I was a littler nervous because I don’t love those rides, but I wanted to try! The line was almost an hour and a half! The ride was pretty scary! Haley and I thought it would be like Soarin’ Over California at California Adventure, but it was must more interactive! I had to close my eyes for some of it, and I’ve basically decided that I don’t want to do 4D rides anymore, haha.
We had a bathroom break, then tried butterbeer! I had the slushee version and Haley had the cream soda version. It was actually so tasty! It was butterscotchy and super rich. We were hungry, so we shared a hot dog and chips, then went for the next ride, the Flight of the Hippogriff. It was a small roller coaster but it was actually really fun, and a much shorter wait! We checked out Olivander’s wand shop, and some other shops. I ended up getting a Griffandor shirt and a Hufflepuff keychain (I’m a Hufflepuff, so I was in disguise in the shirt, hahah). Haley and I took photos in front of Hogwarts, then wandered around the rest of the park. There were Simpson’s, Minions, and other areas. The Jurassic Park ride was closed, otherwise we would have done that! Haley got a hat and some candy, and we took photos with Shrek! That was so funny, haha. We walked around the whole park, then decided to go home to take a quick break and change for the reason I was in LA—Wango Tango, a music festival!
We took a Lyft home and saw Andy for a bit. He had bought a ticket with us, but couldn’t get his shift covered, which was a real bummer, since we saw Taylor Swift in concert at the Rose Bowl, last year, the three of us. I laid down for a half hour, then Haley and I changed and waited for her friend, Alexandra. Andy gave her his ticket, isn’t that nice? The three of us took a Lyft to Carson, where the concert was, at Digital Health Sports Park, formally StubHub Center.
The ride took about 45 minutes. The line for Wango Tango was insane! It took us about half an hour to get in, even though the doors had opened an hour earlier, at 5:30. I had wanted to arrive early, to see some of my swiftie friends, specifically the ones I went to Pittsburgh with, last August. It was almost seven when we got in, so we decided to get some logistics out of the way before getting to our seats. We got our wristbands to access our floor seats and took photos with the Wango Tango sign. We went to the bathroom and got drinks and food. Haley and I shared a mini cheese pizza and it was actually so good! We made it down to our seats and they were pretty good, I was so happy! We had the isle of row 9, in the second section back from the stage! I had better seats for the reputation tour, but they were still really close! Haley and Alexandra has never had such good seats, so that was really cool!
The concert was amazing! 5 Seconds of Summer was first, and I knew a few of their songs. Next up was a kpop (Korean pop) band, called Tomorrow X Together. They were really good dancers! I went up to the food area and met two girls from Twitter, Lee and Jordan, and that was really fun! Fletcher went next, with her song, Undrunk. It was so fun to be dancing and having fun with everyone! Alexandra is trying to make it in the music industry, so she was really fun to be around at, at a concert. Next up was Ava Max, who has a really popular song, Sweet But Psycho. My friends Matti and Bianca came and found me, and it was good to see them!
Ally Brooke came on next. I didn’t know any of her music, but she is a former member of Fifth Harmony. It definitely seemed like she was lip syncing, which was a bummer. She brought out Tyga, a rapper, for a song, and then it was onto the next, Halsey. Halsey has a ton of radio hits, and she put a really good show! Near the end of her set, we ran upstairs and went to the bathroom before the final acts, got a churro and some carne assada fries to share, and Haley and I both got Wango Tango long sleeves. It was a successful trip!
The next act was Zedd. Zedd is a DJ, and really famous. He put on a fun set with a ton of poppy songs mixed in. For some reason John Stamos introduced the next band, the Jonas Brothers! They recently got back together and haven’t put on many shows since then, so the crowd went wild. They played their new songs, Sucker and Cool, and some old ones, like Year 3000, which was so fun to dance to! Also, Hannah B., the current bachelorette on ABC was there and did an introduction, which was cool.
Finally, Taylor Swift was the final act. The reason I was in LA! She came out in a super cool rainbow outfit with a ton of fringe. It was amazing to see her again! The last concert I saw was in Pittsburgh, in August. She opened up with Shake It Off, and I was so happy! She played eight songs: Shake It Off, Blank Space, I Knew You Were Trouble., Love Story, Delicate, Style, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, and Me! Me! is her newest single, for her seventh album, but that’s all we really know! We don’t have an album name or release date, yet. Brandon Urie, the singer of Panic! at the Disco, is featured in that song, and she brought him out to sing with her. It was amazing to see her preform Me! for one of the first times live. A couple times a camera crew was filming me during Taylor Swift, especially when she was surprising us with We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. I hope I can find that footage sometime!
After Me! Wango Tango was done. Of course, she ended the show with confetti. There were so many swifties that it felt like a Taylor Swift show, which was really cool! During Delicate at the reputation tour, the fans would scream “1, 2, 3, let’s go bitch!” in a pause (don’t ask, haha), and everyone did that at Wango Tango, which just shows how many swifties were there!
After the show ended, we waited for Sergio. We went to Pittsburgh together, so it was so good to see him! He had seat filler tickets, and was lucky enough to have pit tickets near the cat walk! That must have been so amazing! He was taking a Lyft home with us, so we could catch up, since I didn’t get to see him during the show. There wasn’t a designated ride share lot, so a security guard told us to go to the nearby 7-eleven, so that’s what we did. I guess Carson isn’t a great area, so I’m glad it was close by. Haley’s phone was the first to connect to a driver, so she took care of that for us. The ride back to Haley’s was much shorter than the drive to Carson, and we didn’t even have to wait long at the 7-eleven. Sergio and I got to catch up, which was so nice! He is a really genuine guy that I truly consider a friend.
There was some drama on the way home, though. Alexandra found out that her boyfriend had been lying and possibly cheating on her. Alexandra and Haley had been blocked for a social media post, but using my phone, she was able to see her boyfriend “dancing” with a “friend”. Alexandra is a big personality, so she called her boyfriend and his friends and her mom, and broke up with him. Wow, that’s really sad! We all got out at Haley’s, and Sergio took a short ride home. I’m so thankful that I got to see him!
Alexandra came up with Haley and I, and was definitely going through some hard stuff. Haley and I got ready for bed (I was sure tired!). We tried to console Alexandra, but there wasn’t much we could do to make her feel better. Around 1:30, she took a Lyft home, and Haley and I immediately fell asleep. Honestly, it was an amazing concert and I’m so glad I flew down for it! :]

Surprise Karaoke
Tittle: Surprise Karaoke Words: 1.9K Pairing: Sou/Shawn Mendes; 8th Member of BTS Summary: Sou is a surprise guest on Shawn’s Carpool Karaoke
‘James, can you stop the car for a second?’, Shawn raised his voice unexpectedly, pointing at something out of the window. ‘I think it’s someone I know!’, he added.
‘Of course!’, James said, stopping on some parking lot. Girl waved at the car and jumped slightly with a big smile. ‘Is that-?’, he asked.
‘Sou, what are you doing here?’, Shawn asked, trying to act confused to the camera. ‘Didn’t you supposed to be on a plane right now?’
‘I think boys left me me here.’, she said, pointing behind herself. ‘I went back to the hotel, because I forgot my cosmetics and when I got here, everyone was gone. Can the two of you help me? I need to catch a plane to Seoul tonight!’, she added, looking back a forth from two men.
‘Of course! Come in!’, James said, unloocking the back door for her. Sou smiled and got inside the car to the backseat. She put on the seat belt and looked around her to check all the cameras.
‘ Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. I think they didn’t even realise, that they left me alone.’, Sou said, making James and Shawn laugh. ‘I mean, I know I’m short, but my stuff takes the most place.’, she added.
‘Sou, you and me have a history, me and Shawn have history. And now you two have one to!’, James started another topic, looking at the road.
‘Correct!’, she exclaimed. Shawn looked back at her and raised hand, giving her high five. ‘Not long, but we have.’
‘How did this even came together?’, he asked another question, pointing from Sou to Shawn.
‘I messaged her on Twitter.’, Shawn started, looking back and making Sou nodd, biting her lip. ‘But she never messaged me back.’
‘What?’, James exclaimed, looking back as he stood on the red light.
‘I don’t read DMs, I’m sorry.’, she answered, raising her arms innocently. ‘There’s was too many nasty people there.’
‘Girls sending nudes?’, he asked, raising his eyebrow, trying to hold on with laugh.
‘I wish there were only girls.’, Sou answered with weird face, trying to forget about those times, when she saw all those inappropriate photos. ‘But one day one of my groupmates, Jimin, ran into my room, while I was minding my own business. He started screaming, that Shawn Mendes texted us. You know, he reads too much messages from fans sometimes. I’m telling him all the time, that DMs are just hell, when you’re popular, but he goes there all the time. Anyway, when I figured out, that it was from a verified account, I decided to write back. But it was about two weeks after, so I was sure, that he wouldn’t even write back. But I texted him, saying that I’m down for a collaboration and he texted back in twenty minutes, asking where do we start.’
‘So, twenty minutes, Mended huh?’, James chuckled, raising his eyebrow.
‘When you want something, you respod really fast.’, he said.
‘But how the song even came together?’, James asked, looking at the two of them. ‘You’re living in two different countries and the time zones!’
‘We wrote it during our Skype conversation.’, Shawn explained as if it was something obvious. He looked back at Sou and she nodded, agreeing with him.
‘Yeah, I wrote my verses. Shawn corrected it though, since I’m not the best at English. Then he took out his guitar and we sand it. The next day, I went to the studio, recorded everything and sent it to Los Angeles.’, Sou said, smiling.
‘I’m not the best at English.’, James repeated her own words, making Shawn laugh and nod, understanding what he meant.
‘Right? And then you have full on conversation with her, with fully expanded vocabulary, that I don’t even use.’, he laughed, high fiving James, who agreed with him. ‘Beside, I think I changed like one line, because the rest was amazing.’
‘So maybe, we should listen to the song, that is still number one in most of the countries? Including America and South Korea?’, James asked, looking back at Sou. She nodded gladly and the song started to play.
‘But it’s a little different side of you Sou, right?’, James asked, looking back as the song ended. She just agreed with him silently. ‘You’re known for being hardcore rapper and now singing a cute ballad?’
‘I’m a rapper, not sure about the hardcore park.’, she laughed, looking outside the window.
‘Just by looking at you face during some performances is making me scared. I’m not joking here.’, James laughed, making the rest join him.
‘She’s very passionate.’, Shawn interrupted. James looked at him, trying to make him expand what he said. ‘Like on our first rehearsal, she wanted to turn that performance into full on choreography set. But I had to stop her and tell that, if there’s any dance involved into this, we’re gonna turn it into circus with my dancing skills.’, he ended laughing.
‘So we just ended with two stand microphones and guitar.’, Sou rolled her eyes. ‘But I think, that’s something I especially like about kpop. You’re able to show so many sides of you and express yourself in many ways. And I think ‘It’s Only Love’ let me show my a little bit of my soft side. And singing side, because I don’t sing too much.’
‘Right! I didn’t know you’re such a good singer! I thought, that at first we’re gonna do some slow rap song or something and then she sent me a demo of her singing and I was shook.’, Shawn said with eyes wide open. ‘When I heard , it, there wasn’t a part of me when it said: you shouldn’t put it on your album.’, he added, making Sou laugh. She covered face with her hands, trying not to show her red cheeks.
‘What’s your favourite Shawn Mendes song, Sou?’, James asked, trying to include another song.
‘I mean thers’s few, but ‘Treat You Better’ is quiet iconic.’, she answered and James turned up the radio, starting the song.
‘Sou, I’ve heard thing about South Korea, that intrigued me a little and I wondered if you could explain it to me.’, James said, making Sou nod as she sipped on her drink. ‘So, there’s the thing with how you call other people, right? Names for different gender and age?’, he asked, looking back. Sou just sighed, looking outside the window and leaned back on the seat. Shawn and James just laughed at her reaction.
‘Yes.’, Sou let out deep breath. ‘In Korea age is important and you should respect people, that are older, that yourself. I don’t know how to explain it, but kind of show it to other people, we give those nicknames.’, she explained.
‘What kind of nicknames? I’m kind of interested too, now.’, Shawn said, turning his body to Sou, who just sent him death glare. James laughed and younger man just joined him.
‘So, if you’re a guy and you’re with girl, that’s older, you should call ner noona.’, she started slowly, making them nod. ‘If you’re younger girl with an older guy, the you call them oppa. When guy is younger, than the other guy, then it’s hyung and when out of two girls, one is younger, then it’s unni.’
‘So, you should call me oppa and Shawn should call you noona, am I right?’, James asked, through the laugh. Sou just rolled her eyes once again. ‘Why you hate it so much?’, he exclaimed.
‘It’s not like I hate it. I just think it’s weird, you know?’, she asked, looking from Shawn to James. ‘We meet a lot of young groups and thell call me noona. It’s not the thing, that I’m happy about, but it’s how they’ve been raised and I can’t really do anything about it. Then I’m usually tell them to call my by my name only and it’s fine. But like in the group, I have three boys, that are younger than me. And if either one tries to call me noona, it’s not gonna end well. Jungkook tried it eight times and everytime he ended up crying.’, she edned up with evil smile.
‘Thing about kpop, that I probably love the most is fanchant.’, James started.
‘This is actually the best thing ever!’, Shawn exclaimed with a huge smile. ‘I saw it on the internet and it looks so cool! The lighsticks and everything together!’
‘Does every group have their lighstics?’, James asked.
‘Most of them - yes.’, Sou started. ‘Companies design them for fans. So like during the concert you can see the whole arena or stadium with the same lighsticks. It’s just beautiful on the aesthetic level. And when groups are performing on festivals or award shows, we can see which part of the crow are our fans and pay them more attention and give more love.’
‘But how do you create those fanchants, because that’s something else.’, Shawn asked.
‘It dependes. Sometimes groups post videos with a guide for the song’s fanchant and sometimes fans just are coming up with them on their own. It’s usually repeating last words or some specific lines and then chanting names, when there are no vocals.’, she explained. ‘But everytime it’s full of passion, that I literally have goosebumps all over my body.’
‘So, I have little something here.’, James started and picked the box from the backseat. He opened it and shown three BTS official lighstics. Then he gave one to each person in the car. ‘And I was thinking, that maybe you can show us with few kpop songs and then created to your and Shawn’s one.’
‘Of course! I’m down.’, she said with excitement, jumping a little in her seat. Sou turned it on and helped both guys with it too. First sounds of ‘DNA’ came out, then ‘Ko Ko Bop’ and ‘Thanks’, making Sou sing with her full heart, just like the fans are doing it in the audience. Both James and Shawn exentually joined her, after realizing how it worked.
‘I’m kind of scared now, how this is going to turn out.’, Shawn laughed as the first sounds of ‘It’s Only Love’ came out of the radio.
‘Thank you guys so much for the ride!’, Sou exclaimed.
‘I hope you won’t be late for your plane.’, James said and Shawn nodded. ‘We should also do it once again. It was fun!’
‘Of course. Call me whenever you’re in Korea.’, Sou said, winking to the camera. She hugged them both from the backseat and got out of the car. She waved back and wanted to go back to the hotel, but something stopped her.
‘Bye noona!’, Shawn screamed with a big smile, waving at her. Sou let out deep breath and ran towards the car. She hit Shawn on the back of his head, making James laugh really hard.
‘Don’t you ever call me like that again.’, she pointed at him with serious face, but then laughed and jumped away.

main points:
- weird yellow tint in sky this morning
- lunch in SF with hugh and jwoos
- booling around in japantown and fillmore jazz festival
- head back home
- dim sum uber eats + the office
- yosemite trip planning
today i:
- woke up around 9:30am and chilled in bed watching youtube and such. i woke up this morning to a weird yellow color tint in the sky. it was like someone had color corrected real life. it was like this yellow ish tint. i took some pics on my phone and it’s kind of crazy... i later found out that this was cause there was a fire somewhere nearby and the ash blew into the bay area, giving us this yellow ish tint. it was honestly very surreal
this pic looks color corrected but it’s not...
- made some oatmeal for breakfast and watched the office “new boss” S5E20. I skipped a few episodes cause i remembered i had watched them v recently
- finalized plans with hugh and jwoos for lunch and then headed up around 11am, getting there around 12pm. the yellow ish tint was even worse up in SF. jwoos and i got seated inside this hot pot place. and then hugh arrived shortly after. however, we didn’t realize that all you can eat was gonna be $36... so before we ordered, we told the waitress we changed our minds and were going somewhere else. we wandered down the street to this famous ramen place, marufuku, but there were 77 parties waiting ahead of us according to yelp... jesus
so we went back to the area near shabusen (hot pot) and went upstairs to hinodeya ramen, which was like 10 parties instead. we waited for about 30-40 minutes, just chilling and chatting. then we got in around 1pm
we ordered the ramen and it was soooooooo good. and really heavy. i was so full afterwards
- we wandered around japantown east and west mall, stopping by random shops here and there. we stopped by kpop beauty, a samurai sword place, a convenience store, and an anime video store. there was a japan day festival going around the surrounding area so it was cool to see some of the performances. there were drums and this flute thing
- we walked down a couple blocks and went to fillmore jazz festival. it was pretty dope, there was dope jazz music being played every few blocks. we decided to go to boba guys first cause why not
- walked the whole length of fillmore jazz festival, stopping every so often to listen to some of the jazz bands perform. there was one like every other block, and it was fun dancing to their music. we walked the whole length from south to north, and at the top of the hill/end of the festival, there was this free spinal exam tent LOL
hugh decided to sign up for it. while we waited for them to give him an exam, jwoos took some dope pics of us. i’m gonna make one of them my pro pic cause it’s pretty candid. i wish my clothing were a little more symmetrical but oh well
- hugh did his spinal exam (he said he didn’t really learn much LOL). then we walked to alta plaza park to hang out for a bit. then jwoos and i went home. jwoos had a meeting and i just was kind of tired. hugh was gonna go to a dance thing later. we parted ways :’( i ubered home for about 50 min from 4:40pm to 5:30
- i just chilled at home for a bit, watching more david dobrik vlogs. i’ve just been going through all his old videos LOL. i’m at like july 2017 of last year, which is interesting cause it’s like a year ago from today
- ordered dim sum from uber eats and took a long shower. picked up my food around 8pm and then watched the office S5E21 “two weeks”. it’s when michael decides to start his own paper company to protest the new VP david wallace hired. i wanted dim sum cause it was light and ramen from lunch was still heavy sitting in my stomach
- played a few games of fortnite. i played a solo game and was lagging near the end. but i got 4 kills. it came down to me and the last guy, and i was like oh shit i could actually win this. he pushed me cause i had the circle and i tried to knock him down with a grenade launcher, slowing him in the process. he got a lucky snipe on me while pushing and then i started panicking cause i lost my shield. i drank a big shield pot as he built up to me, then we had a small build battle. i wasn’t doing too bad, getting the high ground. but then he got a hit on me with his shotty and i started panicking, so i started running away and heading down LOL. and then he hit me a few times more and i was down to like 20 HP. i was just trying to hide somewhere. i basically gave him even more high ground, i’m not sure what i was trying to do... i choked. then he killed me :/ i saw he only had 3 kills, including me. i realized i should’ve just been more confident and gone for it. i choked. gaaahh. i still haven’t won an actual solos match (i’ve won thanos mode and sniper only but not normal solos)
- met with jwoos, zac and lydia to discuss yosemite trip. we planned out our schedules, sights we wanted to see, logistics for getting there, and what to bring
- wrapped that up around 11:45pm. now it’s 12:35am and i’m typing this, ready to crash. i can’t keep my eyes open anymore. i was looking at jwoos’ picture of me from earlier and debating whether i should make it my pro pic or try to take a better one. i figured, i probably won’t be able to look that candid anymore and it’s still a pretty dope pic. sooo i’m gonna set it tomorrow morning :p (~social media~)
okay good night
today was a fun day in SF

don’t even worry about it, i also profusely apologise for things i don’t need to apologise for, so you’re fine :) but yes our cute little letters
look, i love this friend to death, he is the platonic loml, but he needs to be told to shut up every now and then 😌 17 books across two bookstores is actually really good, and i went to one bookstore because they have the classics and books i can’t really find elsewhere. and i’m planning to redecorate, so you are so right about needing new books for my new bookshelf! as for nose jewellery, i only got my nose pierced maybe three months ago? and it didn’t really hurt! the only thing is because it’s your nose, your eyes will water. the healing isn’t too bad either, especially if you don’t touch it or play with it. i have this little black gem in my nose atm and it’s really cute!
see, i live quite close to a city, but i don’t feel super intimidated by it, because it’s smaller? and my uni is in the next city over and that is way bigger in comparison. i mean, it’s up to your interpretation of the people, but some people in sydney weren’t really nice, especially while driving. luckily, i only directly interacted with nice people, so there’s that.
enjoy your japanese! i hope it is at least 25% as good as mine, because it would still taste incredible!
it really is the cutest café, so homely! and yes, café tour is a must
i think i have something stupid, like 40 or so pins? i mean last year for christmas, i ordered a mystery pin bag from one of my fav pin shops and it came with like six pins (it was also the first time i used my prefered name on something, and it brought me so much joy)
(four days before is just four days before. that’s in the past)
you should go!! i have two lego stores in my city (one MASSIVE one, and one small one, both are super cute) they are so fun to look at all the sets and what other people have built. you should treat yourself with some lego flowers, they’ll never die and they are super adorable 🥺
i had to go, i think i had like thirteen panic attacks and i zoned out most of their performance, but i think questioning little younger me would have be proud. the festival honestly was so fun! the energy in the stadium was so so so good and all the performers were amazing! i think even if you weren’t familiar or didn’t like kpop, you would have enjoyed it!
i feel like bookstores are really the heart of any place you go to. they hold the stories of the city you are visiting. the place i’m going is a really funky and alternative kind of place, so i really can’t wait to see these bookstores! i reckon i would have still bought a book in hungarian, just to hold the memory
yeah, i understand having the pressure to speak for other people, but i’m so glad the nice people made it easier!
now you need to find a way to drop one of those langos, that sounds incredible! i would give you all the green tea ice cream and soy biscoff lattes if i could! (the biscoff lattes were back this week and i was so happy)
okay, i’m getting up and drinking a glass of water, after i finish my tea! and thank you for the chocolate and tight hugs! i’m sending you a virtual cup of tea that’s the perfect temperature and just how you like it, with a tight hug <3
hello cece!!!
how are you my dear? i hope these past few days have treated you kindly. it’s been two days and i’ve missed you. as promised, here is a little recap of my trip!!
before my trip though, i took myself out on a date! i caught the tram all the way down the line and went shopping by myself. i bought a grand total of seventeen books :) (my arms were very sore) in one of the bookstores i went into, they have this thing where you can buy them wrapped, so it adds a bit of mystery. all you know about it is the hints and descriptions written on the paper. curiosity got the better of me, and i bought two. i also managed to find a lot of classics, including two works of oscar wilde, i hadn’t seen before. now i just need to buy myself a new bookshelf next time i go out…
so my trip! i went to sydney with a friend. i’ve never been before, and honestly, it’s pretty alright. i don’t think i could live there or go for any longer than i did, but it wasn’t too bad, considering all the bad things i have heard about it. we went initially for a concert on the saturday, but we were like “hey we may as well stay the friday night too.”
cece, when i say i had the best japanese i’ve ever had in my entire life on friday night, i mean it. we had gyozas, karaage chicken and a spicy pork ramen. i wished i could have finished it all, it was so delicious. we had to wait for a table for maybe half an hour, but it was sooo worth it. afterwards, we had their green tea ice cream, which was incredible. i would send you a cone!
the concert started at 7pm on the saturday, so we had the day to kill. we met up with my friend’s brother and his partner, and they took us around to their fav places. we went into the gayest cafe i have ever been to in my entire life. not one person in that building was cishet. rainbows were EVERYWHERE. the entrance was painted rainbow, little rainbow flags were hanging out the windows, they had the cute collectable spoons. it was adorable. we had paninis and tea, and i had never felt so at home.
after we ate, we went into this shopping centre into the coolest little bookstore. i bought two books and a little pin. i restrained myself, i was so proud. i was served by a person with the coolest mullet (i mustered the courage to tell them and they were so sweet). we also went to the lego store (i bought lego sunflowers for my friend’s birthday), it was just a really fun time
now the concert. i have never been to a concert before, but it was so so so fun. we had the best seats you could get without vip, and i’m talking perfect view of the stage. i was so tired after, but in a good way
well, now i am home and i’m so happy i went on that trip. i needed the break from work and uni, and i have another trip coming up too, so i should be less stressed throughout the semester :))
now, tell me how you’ve been, what you’ve been up to, i love hearing about your day :( sending you a big hug <3
Hello Nero!! <3
i’m sorry i’m late to answer, but i was on a little trip too actually!! and i’ve missed you so much in these few days!! i’ve missed out letters!!
oh my god nero!!! that date sounds amazing!!! i love that kind of me time so much!! and i mean, you got out of the shop with 17 books?? that’s literally the best way to spend a day!!! and i love those wrapped books where you can’t really know much about what’s inside, it’s so awesome when you get home and you unwrap them 🥺 and all the classics!! you’re definitely gonna need a new bookshelf but i’m guessing it’s gonna be worth it for all these new books!!
wait does sydney have a bad reputation?? i didn’t know this! but i’m really glad you liked it, even if not for more than a few days 😅 and it seems fair, i guess it’s a really big and chaotic city so it can’t be easy to live there.
but that japanese, oh my god i’m craving some too now!! it sounds sooo good!! i haven’t had japanese in so long, especially the green tea ice cream, and now i really really crave a cone, so i would gladly accept that one!!
nero i swear, every time you talk about these little cafes you go to you make me want to book a plane ticket to australia to come try all of them. and this one sounds so awesome!! gosh i wish i was there too to see all the rainbows and feel at home!!! it honestly sounds like the perfect queer cafe!!! why don’t i have something like that here too?? 😭 the urge to book a plane ticket is getting really strong, i’m not even kidding
nero i’m so proud of you, two books and a pin is so little!! i wish i had that kind of restraint. and what kind of pin did you get?? (i’m sorry i just have an obsession for pins). also, that is so sweet!! and now i’m picturing them with the coolest mullet, thank you for this mental image 😻
it really does sound like the best time!! the lego store also sounds so nice, i’ve never seen lego sunflowers but it sounds like the cutest birthday present 🥺
and the concert!!! your first concert is always the coolest experience!! definitely tiring too, but i’m so happy you had fun!! and the seats seem perfect!! i’ve never been to a concert where i had seats, i’ve always had parterre, but i’m so happy you could see the stage that well!! and who did you go see?? (if you want to say of course!)
uhh another trip? that’s great!! you deserve some little breaks like this with all that stress from uni and work!! i’m so glad you had fun and hope your next trip is as good as this one!!! <33
so as i said i was on a little trip too! i went to budapest, it was kind of a last minute holiday, but i had a lot of fun!! i’d already seen the city a few years ago but i loved it so much i was happy to go back. we just spent a few days there so we didn’t get to see the whole city, because it’s really big, but i’m still really glad i got to see some of my favorite places again!!
also, i went with my mum, who doesn’t speak english at all, so i was supposed to be in charge and talk all the time, and i was so worried because i can never talk to people, but i did it!! i managed to walk into restaurants and ask for a table or ask people for directions and stuff like that and everyone was just so nice!!
we went to the bastion which is my absolute favorite place and you can see the whole city from there, and we also did a little cruise on the danube at night so we could see all the city lit up and it was awesome!! and i got to eat some of that amazing food again!! they have a lot of fried and spicy stuff that is soooo good. i wish i could send you some of that too because honestly it’s amazing!!
i got back last night and now i’m super tired because of all the walking in the city but i’m glad i went too, it was a really nice trip!!
i’m sending you a big big hug and a forehead kiss <33
