Here’s the emergency ban that got blocked. Please read how fucking ableist this is. Boutta get my psychologist to remove all of my diagnosis because I can’t afford to move to fucking Colorado.

Pairing: RE6!Leon Kennedy x Prime Minister's Daughter! Reader (ft. Ada Wong)
Genre: Smut, Romance, Angst
Warning: cheating, Leon is obsessed with the reader, stalking, taking photos, the reader is cold but deep inside she’s a sweetheart, mentions of arranged marriage, pure smut (mentions of masturbation, foreplay, kissing, breasts fondling and sucking, markings,  p in v intercourse, virgin sex, penetrative sex, Leon is huge [I think it's at least 9 inches, sheesh], creampie, aftercare)
Word count: 5.2k
Summary: As the eldest daughter of the Prime Minister and one of the faces of the family, you received multiple assassination attempts. So, your father hired someone to keep an eye on you. And to your surprise, out of all people, it was Leon Kennedy your father picked for you. You and Leon had a secret relationship but soon did not last because another woman came into his life. Now that the both of you meet again, will it be the start of chaos or a continuation of romance?
author's note: This story is entirely fictional. I do not know what the President and the Prime Minister exactly do for the country. Same with the occupation of being a prosecutor and the chief of the CIA. English is not my mother tongue so pardon if you encounter mistakes and grammatical errors. This is only for entertainment purposes only. And minors, please do your homework first.
It all started when you had an assassination attempt for the fifth time. Being the only daughter of the Prime Minister isn’t easy. The more your father becomes powerful, the more assassination attempts you receive because if the opponent can't attack the Prime Minister, their target will be his family and pick the most treasured and precious gem of his life, his daughter.
"The President will help to capture those bastards who tried to kill you." Your father spoke, looking at you, who was fixing the files from the CIA.
"Papa, this is the fifth time you told me that. All the men you hired to guard me ended up being fired."
"Because they failed to protect you," The Prime Minister replied in a strict fatherly tone. "This time, it was the President who recommended this agent to keep an eye on you."
"I hope he wouldn't think that I am being a spoiled brat and a baby when he found out that I am a prosecutor." You chuckled, shaking your head a little.
"Yes, you are a prosecutor. Not just a simple prosecutor. You are one of the most powerful prosecutors in the Supreme Court. You have access to every government agency as the Chief of the CIA. So, it’s quite understandable that those people who tried to eliminate you were not just because of me but because you are one of the most influential people in politics.”
You sighed and gave him a small smile. Your father has been stressed out with international political stuff plus your assassination attempt. And speaking of the President, both of them are best friends and they climbed the political ladder together. The President is personally closer to the Prime Minister than the Vice President. That’s why when you survived your fifth assassination attempt, it was the President who was one of the first people that paid a visit to check on you.
“Alright, I’ll accept whoever the President has to recommend to guard me. But Papa, I don’t want to be guarded all the time. You know what I mean. I need some private time.” Your father nodded in agreement.
“I understand. I’ll call the President.” With that, he walked out of your office and was escorted by his bodyguards as he walked down the hallway of my office.
“I heard our dads having a conversation about your assassination attempt. Are you sure you’re okay?” Your friend, Ashley asked in a concerned tone on the other line of the call.
“Yeah, I am fine. The assassin must have poor eyesight.” You laughed but Ashley only sighed.
“You’re still joking around as if you weren’t stunned when you barely dodge the bullet. By the way, my dad recommended the man who saved me from Spain. You haven’t heard about him, have you? Because you have three cases to finish.” Ashley chuckled.
“The two are successful, only the rape case left. But believe me, I was so worried about you. And don’t tell me his name. I love surprises.” You grinned.
“Oh, no. Here we go again with that behavior of yours. I think you know this person. Because when I mentioned you once in our conversation, he was surprised to hear that you are the Chief of the CIA and a prosecutor.”
“Do we know each other?” I asked, confused. Ashley hummed and chuckled.
“You’ll meet him tomorrow, according to the conversation between the Prime Minister and the President.”
With that, you started critically thinking about the person. According to your father, he’s a federal agent and was exclusively picked to save Ashley from an insane cult in Spain. But why did this person seem to know you?
“This is Leon Scott Kennedy. Your bodyguard starting today.” Your father, the Prime Minister introduced the federal agent who saved your friend from Spain and the one the President recommended.
And for the very first time, you hated surprises. This is the worst surprise you’ve ever had. Leon looks different from before. How long has it been since the Raccoon City outbreak? Fifteen years? Leon looked at you, scanning you from head to toe. You are wearing a black tight turtleneck knee-length dress, black high heels, and simple makeup but the matte red lipstick made you look bold. Your chest and curves perfectly fit the dress you are wearing. His gaze went back to you and swiftly rolled your eyes.
“Bodyguard?” You repeated, hiding your irritation because out of all people to become your bodyguard, why this fucking bastard? Why your ex?
            Your father nodded his head.
“If he saved the President’s daughter alone from a deadly cult in Spain, then he can save you from assassination attempts.”
“Papa, that guy can’t predict if there’s someone who will try to eliminate me.” You retorted and your father gave you a disapproving look.
“We agreed on this already, Y/n. And this is an exclusive decree from the President. You are one of the secret weapons of the country so for him, it is also his responsibility to take care of you.” Your father reminded you.
“I know my job, Papa! You don’t have to remind me of that! Right now, I can’t help but feel embarrassed of myself that the Chief of the CIA needed to be guarded as if I can’t protect myself.”
“Y/n L/n!” Your father yelled, shutting you up. “For Christ’s sake, Y/n! Just for once! I am trying to protect you but you wouldn’t listen! And for the first time, you despised the man we selected to keep an eye on you. I mean, what’s wrong if this guy keeps an eye on you?”
His question made you pause. Your father must never know the reason why the hell you hated Leon so much. Even thinking about it makes your heart break. So, you looked down and replied against your will to not make this worse.
“Alright. End of discussion.”
Your father scoffed at your sudden change of mood and aura. He had never seen you glare and roll your eyes at the agents he picked to protect you. You are warm to the four guards who used to protect you. It was he who fired them when an assassination attempt occurred and those men failed to protect you. But now, he sees nothing but the fire of rage in your eyes when he introduces Leon to you as your bodyguard.
“Y/n, what the hell is wrong with you?” He asked.
“I accepted him already, Papa! Don’t ask me such questions again. Just fire him the moment someone fired a gun on me while he was nowhere to be found. Just like what you did to my former bodyguards.” You replied, turning your back on him so that he couldn’t see the tears forming in your eyes.
And then, the Prime Minister’s phone rang. He accepted the call and there was silence in the room so that he could have a proper conversation with the caller. After a few seconds, he hung up and looked at you.
“I need to go. They need me to discuss something in the White House.” He announced and you gave him a nod without sparing him a glance.
When your father left, you turned around and faced Leon who was looking at you the whole time, realizing that you are not the young girl he left for another woman back then. It’s true, he thought. You are no longer naive, eyes full of anger with the mess he made fifteen years ago.
“You changed, Y/n. After fifteen years…” Leon started which made you smirk.
“Unlike that woman who’s still manipulative. Bet you didn’t last.” You straight-forwardly rebutted and headed over to your desk. You sit on your executive leather chair and cross your legs as you rest your back against the backrest.
“Tell me, what’s your motive?” You asked sharply.
“It was the President who recommended me to the Prime Minister.” He replied but you shook your head in disapproval.
“You can decline but you didn’t. There must be a reason why you accepted the offer. The government needs you to save the country from bioweapons but here you are, standing in front of me as my bodyguard.”
“Well, I am protecting the country’s secret weapon so I think it’s considered. Besides, the President and I agreed that I will still work as a federal agent of DSO while guarding the Prime Minister’s daughter.”
Well, he has a point. You hummed in satisfaction with his answer and opened a file and checked the documents regarding the case you are currently in. There was a silence between you and Leon couldn’t help but feel your anger behind your calm expressions. No matter how much you tried to not make this personal, the pain he gave you makes it difficult for you to calm your nerves.
But Leon decided to give it a try…
“Ada and I were not in a relationship… or even on good terms.” He stated, causing you to grin.
“Not interested. Besides, you are nothing to me.”
You can feel that your words affected him but you don’t care. And there’s an awkward silence again until you receive a call from the Chief Prosecutor. At least it saved you from the uncomfortable feeling of being with your ex. You stood up and kept your documents in the proper places and grabbed your handbag.
You walked to the door but Leon moved faster to open the door for you. You ignored his presence and walked out of your office to the ground floor. Leon tailed behind you until you came out of the law firm’s building and your driver pulled up the car in front of you. Before Leon can move, you open the door for yourself and get inside the car.
Leon paused for a moment and shook his head and was about to get inside the front seat but you rolled your windows down and said…
“I do not allow my bodyguard to come to join me in my car so go join my other guards in the other car.” Leon scoffed and retorted back. “According to the Prime Minister, I shall join you in every vehicle you are going to ride.”
“Are you working for the Prime Minister or me?” You sarcastically asked.
He didn't want to make further arguments so he sighed and just obliged. You rolled your windows up and your driver drove away to your destination.
It was now nighttime. You and Ashley decided to hang out in a fancy bar in the city. You are staying in the VIP Room while your bodyguards are staying outside of the room, securing the area.  You two are regular customers of the bar and the owner doesn’t mind if you two brought a bunch of bodyguards for safety purposes.
So here you are, sipping a glass of whiskey with your legs crossed and back against the backrest of the leather couch as you stare into nowhere in the room. It has been two weeks since your father hired Leon as your bodyguard. Having him around you during those days felt like being chained up again to your past.
“Hey, you’ve been staring at nowhere. Are you even listening to me?” Ashley’s voice snapped you back to your senses. You hummed and took the last drop of the whiskey before putting the glass down and pouring yourself another shot.
“You rarely drink whiskey, Y/n. What’s wrong?” She asked and you didn’t reply to her. Instead, you pulled a cigarette and put them between your lips, and lit them up before huffing out a smoke.
“Knew it. Something’s wrong. Was this because of your new bodyguard?” She asked and you hummed, huffing out another smoke.
“Tell me, Ash. Do you think my life right now would be different if I asked you his goddamned name before we met?” You asked.
“Why do you ask?” She asked too while you breathed out another smoke and sipped on your glass of whiskey.
“Because I could’ve stopped Dad from hiring him! That bastard has been getting on my nerves for the last two weeks.” You hissed.
Like your father, Ashley asked the same question. “What’s wrong if my dad recommended him and your father hired him to be your bodyguard? Y/n, Leon is one of the top agents in the country. He saved many lives and protected the country from bioweapons. And this is the first time you despised your bodyguard. You weren’t this cold to your former bodyguards until Leon came.”
There was another pause as you finished your cigarette and put it on the ashtray and drank your whiskey. Ashley continued, “Was I right? Do you two know each other?” She asked and you hummed again as the response. Even responding to her is difficult, especially when you're talking about the man who ruined you.
“We used to, Ash. We used to.” You replied, chuckling to yourself as you tried to stop your tears from falling. Ashley has been your best friend even before his father became the elected President of the United States of America but you don’t want her to see your vulnerable side.
“Used to? Like, he’s a part of your past?” She asked and you nodded your head.
“Worst part of my life, rather.” You sipped again, gulping the strong liquor down to your throat.
“You know, it would be nice if you would share your backstory with me. Even just the highlights, I’m sure I can understand it.”
“Ash, he’s my ex-boyfriend.” You frankly said. Ashley gasped upon hearing this from you.
She never thought that the man who saved her in Spain was your ex-lover. This is a shocking revelation for her. Ashley recalled the moments she mentioned you during her conversation with him back in 2005. Leon’s reaction was still clear in her memory when she told him that you are a prosecutor and one of the most powerful ones in the Supreme Court. He was completely surprised but then he was grinning moments later.
“No wonder why he was surprised when I mentioned your name back in 2005. How long has it been since you two broke up?”
“Since 1998. It was during the Raccoon City outbreak. After we parted ways, I never heard from him again and just focused on my studies.” You lit up another cigarette, putting the stick between your fingers and lips.
“Why did you two break up?” Ashley asked.
You paused for a moment. A lump formed in your throat and a tear slipped out of your eye. Your only way is to gulp down the whiskey in your glass. Ashley doesn’t want to force you to spill out the truth. Her point is to ease the pain in your heart. Seeing you struggling to speak is enough for her to understand that you and Leon did not have a good end.
“He’s a traitor,” You managed to speak out, taking deep breaths as you struggled to breathe.
Ashley had to go because her mother, The First Lady called because of curfew. She doesn't want to leave you in tears but you ushered her to leave, saying that you will be fine and enjoy the time by yourself. Ashley gave you an apologetic look before grabbing her purse, kissing your cheek, and leaving the VIP Room.
And there you are, having deep thoughts. You huffed out another smoke and groaned. You are not a menacing teenager who will do everything to get rid of Leon. That’s too immature. Ever since you graduated in Law and become a prosecutor, you promised yourself that you are no longer that young girl who’s sweet and naive. You need to be tough no matter how hard the situation is. No matter how much pressure a case gives you, you will do everything to win the trial.
Same as being the Chief of the CIA. Your hacking skills, high potential on battlefields, gunfight skills, and being a deadly agent made you reach your current position. None of the missions you had were easy. Most of them cost the lives of agents that failed to complete the mission. Only you are the last man standing. At the end of the missions, you’d always look around and see the pools of blood scattered around whether it is from your enemy or comrades. Dead bodies lay down on the bloodied ground. And now, the President takes you as the country’s secret weapon against the threat from other countries who will dare to attack.
Those events happened within fifteen years. You didn’t get enough rest. Your mind is so occupied with your job that even when Ashley was kidnapped back in 2005, you did not let your emotion take over you and continued pursuing your goals and fulfilling your responsibilities as a prosecutor and the Chief of the CIA. Leon never popped into your mind ever since. Now that he’s here again as your bodyguard, you couldn’t help but recall what pain he gave you in Raccoon City fifteen years ago.
Fifteen years ago in Raccoon City, things go wrong as you, Leon, and Ada encounter another group of survivors and now they are chasing you down to kill you. Ada, the most experienced one in fighting got shot in the leg causing her to fall to the ground. You and Leon are shooting them with your guns but he saw Ada get shot.
“Ada!” He yelled and shot those people who are after her before running to her to check on her. But there’s a guy who appeared out of nowhere and pointed his gun at Leon.
“Leon, duck!” You yelled and covered Leon with your body. A gunshot echoed around the road and you hissed in pain as the bullet hit you on your arm.
You growled and reloaded your gun as fast as you could and shot the guy right in the head. You took care of the rest of the people while Leon is busy treating Ada’s injury with a small medical kit he has. After a few seconds of silence, you lowered your gun and held your injured arm to stop the bleeding. You turned around and found Leon carrying Ada in his arms.
In your view, Ada was telling Leon that she’s fine and can’t walk, even including a phrase that it was just a bite of an ant. But Leon insisted on carrying her. It makes you feel jealous. Like, you are his girlfriend while Ada is just a random FBI Agent who appeared out of nowhere and saved Leon from infected dogs. Then, why is he treating her as if you are not around? Does he even realize that he was hurting you? Does he realize that a man who’s in a relationship shouldn’t act like that around his girlfriend?
So, to not ruin Leon’s time with her and to avoid making an issue between you in the middle of a zombie outbreak, you uncovered your arm, letting it bleed. You’re wearing a black hoodie so the blood isn’t noticeable. Claire will be here soon so you can treat your wound later. You wouldn’t die if you bleed and wait for Claire, would you? With a heavy sigh, you walked away, taking the lead while Leon followed you with Ada in his arms.
Soon, you found Claire with Sherry in a safe room. She was treating Leon’s wounds too while Ada was resting in the bed. While you are looking outside through the window. It was your only way to ease the pain and jealousy you felt. That shot could have killed Leon if you didn’t cover him. That could’ve cost your life too. This isn’t the first time you felt jealous. This is the tenth time you felt this way and you hate it. You noticed how Ada acts around Leon and she usually dismisses you. If she did, it was against her will.
You are in deep thought when you hear Sherry gasp…
“Y/n, you’re bleeding! Why are you not saying anything?!” With that, you gained everyone’s attention. Claire immediately approached you and found your arms bleeding.
“How could you not say anything! You’ll die if we don't treat this immediately!” Claire scolded you, rolling up your sleeves, and gasped when he found your injury bleeding more. She grabbed all the things she needed and started treating your wound.
You gritted your teeth as Claire took the bullet out of your arm and wrapped it with a bandage. Leon approached you too and attempted to hold your hand but you declined and said, “I can manage.” And there Leon realized that something was wrong.
Until one day… you find out Ada’s secret. Upon finding out about this, anger quickly rushed down through your veins and quickly grabbed your gun and pointed it to Ada and fired multiple times but none of the bullets hit her as it was your way to catch her attention.
“Tell us the truth, Ada Wong,” You growled venomously. “Tell us who the hell are you…”
“Y/n!” Leon quickly stood between you and Ada, facing you. “Put the gun down! What the hell is wrong with you?!” He shrieked.
“That bitch is fooling around us! She told us that she was an FBI Agent when I didn’t see her record on the FBI’s server! Stay away from that traitor, Leon!” You hissed, firmly pointing your gun at Ada.
Ada did not reply but there is no hint of worry or regret in her eyes. Instead, she glared at you. She stepped in front of you, never breaking eye contact with you. She then smirked and put on a smug look on her face.
“Traitor? Seriously? If you are just a student, you wouldn’t know how to access the FBI’s server. From the very start, I’ve been helping you and Leon. I’ve saved your life a lot of time and now this is how you are going to repay me?!” Ada hissed at you.
“For an eighteen-year-old student, it’s not easy to hack the FBI. What about you, Y/n? Who the hell are you?” She turned the tables around. She takes steps closer to you as if she was challenging you.
“Don’t change the topic, Ada. You’re working under Albert Wesker, right? One of the researchers and the reasons why the hell we are here in this damn situation? Too bad, Ada. You did not pass as the best actress.”
Then, Ada attacked you at such speed. Of course, you dodged her attacks and are more trained than her regardless of your age and state in the government. You may be just a student, practicing Law but no one must look down on you or even doubt your commitment especially when you are doing this for your team’s safety. The combat between you and Ada ended when you pulled the trigger and hit her on the waist. Ada grunted and you took the opportunity to take her down.
“Y/n, enough!” Leon pulled Ada away with such care which breaks your heart more. Claire was holding Sherry who was sobbing in her embrace.
“Leon, are you defending her?” You asked, feeling betrayed. Leon put Ada to the side for a moment before pulling you away to a more private room.
“What the hell did you just do?! You know that Ada is our key point to survive this damn apocalypse!” Leon hissed at you and of course, you retorted back.
“From the very start, I did not trust that woman even a bit! It feels like she planned to cross paths with us to gain our trust and take the samples because she is working for Albert Wesker!”
“Aside from accusing her, shooting her, how did you access the FBI’s server? We have only limited devices! We even barely called for help and now we found out that you accessed the FBI just to do some stupid research on her!”
“Stupid research? I did it for our safety!” You rebutted. “Leon… I don’t understand. Why are you being so protective of her? Why are you defending her? Leon, I am your girlfriend.”
Leon sighed. “You are. But these days, it feels like we’re not together. It feels like you are different from the girl I love. I… I don’t know you anymore.” Your heart shatters as Leon said those. Tears filled your eyes, your heart pounded against your chest, and a lump formed in your throat.
You couldn’t believe that Leon was saying this to you when you just want to protect him, to protect everyone. A tear slipped out your eye and you pulled yourself away. “Are you doubting me, Leon? Do you believe that the fake agent is your girlfriend?” Then Leon snapped at you,
“Don’t call her that!”
“Then what?!” You yelled at him. “You think I don’t notice your behavior ever since she came into our lives? That you are becoming more affectionate to her than me? That you will prioritize her over me? That night when those groups of survivors chased us and tried to kill us, I saw how worried you were for her that you insisted on carrying her when she just had a shot in her leg because of her stupidity, rather than me catching the bullet for you!”
Leon was taken aback by your sudden outburst.
“If there’s someone I truly don’t know anymore, that is you, Leon. Even thinking if I should approach you for help is difficult for me because your attention was on Ada. Tell me the truth, Leon. Is there someone else? Is there someone else who captured your heart away from me?”
He didn’t reply to your question. Seeing you in this kind of situation hurts him. But he couldn’t lie to you. His silence is enough for you. With a deep breath, you turned away from him.
“I can leave, if that’s what you want. I know you very much, Leon. As a rookie police officer, you wouldn’t ride the same boat with the person you are doubting. But mark my words, Leon…” You paused but Leon interrupted you.
“You’re not leaving.” You turned to look at him and he was looking directly into your eyes. “We will survive this apocalypse together, I promise. Please, stay with us. For me….”
For his sake, you stayed. To not lose him, you swallowed your pride for him. Until one night… when you almost escape the damned city, things went wrong again. He broke his promise.
You woke up from being knocked out and there you found yourself cuffed in a chair. You looked out to the glass window and found Leon heading to the helicopter with Ada. And the sound of zombies banging outside of the room you are in made you panic even more. So, you forcefully pulled your hands off the handcuffs. You kept pulling yourself and your wrists started to bleed. Tears fall from your eyes, struggling to be free. “Leon!” You yelled and winced in pain until you successfully freed yourself. You banged against the glass to gain his attention.
He did. He looked at you who was crying, scared of death. The banging of zombies against the door gets louder and you look at Leon with pleading eyes as blood stains the clear glass that was coming from your wrists.
“Leon, don’t leave me here! Help me!” You screamed but Leon only looked at you with saddened eyes.
He had no choice but to leave you. Even if it hurts him to see you crying like a puppy, injured and terrified, there’s no other way but to leave with Ada. The woman in red noticed that Leon was looking in your direction. So, she held his hand and gave him an assuring smile.
“Leon, I know that this is hard but you need to strengthen yourself…”
What breaks your heart more is that he smiled at her before proceeding to walk to the helicopter.  After connecting the dots, you realize they use you as the bait while they take the opportunity to escape. With that, anger rushed throughout your veins upon realizing that Leon just betrayed you. He betrayed you for Ada. Your hands clenched into fists while your wrists keep bleeding.
Leon gave you a last look and he saw nothing but pain and anger in your eyes as if you were cursing him for betraying you. There’s no point in turning back now. Call him selfish but he made up his mind…
And so he rides the helicopter with Ada, leaving you, scared and alone. Soon, the zombies break into the room where you are in. You ain’t going to cry and let those zombies eat you alive. On that night, you vowed to yourself that no matter what it takes, you will get your revenge on them. You used all the weapons you can use just to survive even if you’re alone.
Remembering how you struggled to survive made your eyes teary. You don’t want to be as weak as the person you used to be. That night when Leon betrayed you, another persona came into you. It made you more powerful. Having Leon back makes you feel like meeting your past self. A naive, sweet, and caring young girl who was now looking at a sophisticated, high-class, elite, and exclusive prosecutor and a superior of the country’s most powerful agency, the CIA.
You put your glass down and the cigarette on the ashtray before removing your black leather gloves and looking at the scars on your wrists that were carved on your skin. You still can feel the pain those cuffs gave you. When you survived and escaped that damned city, you started wearing gloves, not wanting to see your scars.
Anger rushed down through your veins. You grabbed the glass and threw it away with a growl, creating shattering sounds. There, you broke into tears. You rest your head against the backrest while you drape your arm over your eyes as you weep.
“I will make your life a living hell, Leon Kennedy.” You muttered under your breath before passing out.
Leon, who was patiently waiting for you outside the VIP Room heard a shattering sound inside. And there he found you, sitting on the couch with your head resting against the backrest with an arm draped over your eyes. He sighed in relief that you were fine.
“Is that how you throw tantrums?” He asked. You didn’t reply, not even moving from your position. Leon sighed again, realizing that you passed out.
The man approached you to pick you up but something caught his attention. Your scars. He moved closer to you and stared at your scars. It was carved around your wrists. Your skin was torn, he can tell that the cuffs he gave you back then have made you ruin your skin, desperate to escape.
Leon still remembers how you looked at him with a fire of rage in your eyes as your tears fell uncontrollably. When he looked at you during his introduction as your bodyguard, the flame was even worse behind your calm expression. The mystery of Prosecutor L/n's gloves is now finally solved.
         Suddenly…
"Traitor…" Leon snapped back to his senses and looked at you. You are looking at him with hooded eyes. You stood up and grabbed your bag and gloves before walking to the door, without regretting telling him that. Because that's what he is.
To be continued...

Emperor Geta teaser
Tumblr media
Rating: 18+ MINORS DO NOT INTERACT.
Just trying to gauge some interest with this drabble. Didn't heavily proofread. I do have my Eric one coming out this weekend while I am off from work. Just wrote this because um hello???
Warnings: Nudity, teasing.
You didn’t come from a wealthy family. It was quite the opposite actually. But your parents needed this and for some reason, the emperor had caught you out as one of the women he wanted to meet to potentially become his wife. Caracalla. Emperor Caracalla was the eldest son of Emperor Septimius Severus. Caracalla and his father were part of the Severan dynasty.  There was a lot of talk about him, his brother Geta, and his father amongst the empire. People had to be careful how they spoke of them, however. But it was Caracalla’s father and mother that were finding it important for their sons to find wives and begin a family. You were sure he could have cared less—he could sleep with any woman he wanted.
He and his brother was in a position of power and authority, two of the most important things this day and age. Any woman in their right mind would not turn down either Emperor. Part of you was hoping he’d choose you—for your family’s sake. They’d be highly favored if the emperor chose you. But you wouldn’t return to your normal life. You’d instantly be taken in by the family, beginning preparations to make you his wife. It was all overwhelming to think about.
You knew that there would be women lined up for a chance to court and marry Emperor Caracalla. He had been co-augustus with his brother now for some time, getting the real taste of what it was like to rule. His true colors would show through soon enough, they always did. Every ruler, every time. It never failed. He had a huge weight on his shoulders.
One could only imagine the weight he had on his shoulders. It was something you couldn’t imagine—learning the ropes so that one day you could take over the empire from under your father. His life was royalty, but you were sure it probably wasn’t easy. There were standards he had to live up to and achieve. That would be hard in itself, having such an expectation to live up to. You shook your head lightly just thinking about it.
The journey to get to Caracalla was going to be a long one, one that you weren’t sure you were mentally prepared to endure. As bad as you hated to admit it, part of it felt like a death sentence—a march to your uncertain and untimely death. Maybe that was being a little dramatic. But your life as you knew it was over, wasn’t it? Life would never be the same if he chose you as his partner. This would be a huge undertaking.
Part of you was content that your mother had agreed to take this journey with you. It was comforting to have her near, a familiar faucet in this unfamiliar setting. If Caracalla chose you, the wedding would be extravagant and grand. It would be something you could only dream about, something so far out of your reach. But was it now? That was to be determined.
Each one of you had to introduce yourselves to him and bow before him. He and his brother were on the throne together, picking over each one of you. When it got to you, you thought you might forget your name that your stomach was flipping so hard. But somehow, you had made it. Geta even had eyes on you, narrowing them as he bit his lip and fiddling with his rings subconsciously.
Geta looked over at Caracalla before turning back to you. He said something and then chuckled but it was inaudible. It made you nervous. But somehow, something must have went right. You were still here and still in the running to be Caracalla’s wife. They had narrowed it down to just a few of you. There were also just a few for Geta. But he seemed as if he could care less. It was a hot  night during summer and you couldn’t sleep.
You probably shouldn’t have went of by yourself but you were trying to get some fresh air. The imperial palace had many twists and turns and you started to feel like you had just been going in circles. There was a soft sound like water running, peaking your curiosity. It had to be outside, right? Taking a deep breath, you closed your eyes and opened the door. There was steam and the sound of water splashing. You looked around, trying to find something—anything.
You saw some clean fabric lying off to the side.
“Lost?”, a voice echoed against the water.
You looked up, horror across your face. You were met with the dark eyes of Geta. He was naked, the glisten of water reflecting with barely any soap on his body.
“Um—I’m so sorry—
“Are you?”
“I am.”, you stammered quickly, grasping at your night clothes.
He chuckled lightly, making no attempt to cover himself. “Don’t you know you aren’t supposed to see your future husband’s brother naked?”
“I—”
“Aw, can you form a full sentence, love?”
He was taunting you. He knew you were flustered, it was all over your face.  You began to think what a jerk he was.
“I didn’t mean to—I promise.”
Geta chuckled again and you felt your eyes go south, immediately taking the view in.  He was huge and your brain tried to process how that would even fit inside you—you mean Caracalla’s—if it looked anything like his. You bit your lip subconsciously. You had never seen a man naked before. Part of it made you feel pathetic.
“Are you sure?”, he smirked, the smile twisting up into his cheeks, becoming more sinister.
“I am—I just wanted fresh air. That’s all.”
He smiled to himself, continuing his bath. “Hm. You know—are you sure you want to marry my brother?”
“What’s that supposed to mean? I mean—I.”
“What has you so flustered? Never saw the male anatomy before?”
“No.”, you admitted easily, brushing a stray piece of hair behind your ear, feeling your cheeks heating up.

Tumblr media
The next day passed swiftly with y/n training some more together with Dorian, Aelin, and Yrene, spending time with Fenrys and watching the others plan their attack on the valg. As the hours ticked by, y/n felt a heavy weight settle on her shoulders not just because of the thought of going home, but also failure. What if she fails? What if she can't even open the gates? What if the others fail? What if.....something happens to Fenrys?!
She didn't want to think about that. She didn't want to think about the "what ifs". Aelin told her how all she had to do was reach as deep as possible within herself to find her own abilities and bring them up. The queen also told y/n that once she opens the gate, she has to feel relaxed and confident in her self because no one will be able to save her or bring her back except herself.
It was later in the night that while they were having dinner, Arthur came rushing in with the Book of Breathings in his hand. His eyes were wide and his breaths were ragged as he set the book right next to Aelin.
"Forgive me, my queen, for interrupting your moment but there is an issue, this book is talking nonstop. No matter how many wards I put, it won't stop acting out of the ordinary."
Lysandra chuckled, "That thing always acts out of the ordinary, Arthur, just ignore it."
The librarian nervously shook his head as he said, "No, you don't understand. Just- just listen. It keeps on hissing and talking over and over. None of my spells work on it."
"He is close"
"Shifting gates"
"Trying, he is trying to come"
Rowan immediately gets up, taking the book in his hand, "Is it the valg or the foreigners?"
"Coming, he is coming"
"Shifting"
"Y/n, I think you should be the one to talk to this book because it seems like you are the only one it will ever answer due to your connection." Aelin's eyes were wide with worry as she adressed her.
Y/n hesitantly nodded her head and got up, Fenrys right behind her as she gestured for Rowan to put the book on the table that was standing between two couches. Once the prince set it down, she took a quick breath, reminded herself that Fenrys was right beside her, that she was safe, and opened her mouth.
"Is it Rhysand?"
"Yes."
"Is he coming alone?"
"No."
"Who else is coming?"
"All except the seer."
So Elain wasn't coming then. Y/n saw from her peripheral vision how Lucien's tense shoulders slightly sagged with relief.
With the room completely silent and all eyes on her, y/n leaned a little more towards the book and asked,
"Are they successful? Have they been able to find a way?"
"They have been trying. Lord of Night is close, true to his name as the most powerful fae, he has managed to get close."
"How?"
"Second-in-command"
"Amren? Did she find a way for Rhys to use his powers and find a solution?"
"A deal with Koschei. She made a deal."
Amren made a deal with one of the Old Gods? This can not end well.
"What kind of a deal?"
"Unknown. Koschei knew of my power and blocked everything but her out."
Y/n sighed but asked her final question.
"If they manage to get through, when will they arrive? You need a gate for that."
"Soon."
Soon. They may arrive soon. Y/n's heart felt heavier with each tense and silent second that passed.
"Well, it seems we will be having some guests soon."
Lorcan's sarcastic tone brought y/n out of her trance, causing her to look around the room before she felt Fenrys' hand in hers, gently soothing her.
Manon crossed her arms over her chest. "Whether they come or not is up to them to figure out but all we need is to be prepared for tomorrow which, I hope that we are."
As the discussion goes on, Aelin steps towards y/n, glancing between her and Fenrys, joined by their hands.
"Y/n, could I take you away for a moment?"
Fenrys looks down at her, his eyes questioning before she nods her head with a small smile and turns towards the queen. "Of course,"
Aelin smiles and gestures towards the other side of the room, away from all the noise. Fenrys squeezes her hand one last time in support and moves towards where everyone seems to be gathered in a circle, arguing.
Once she reached the queen, y/n looked at her expectantly, waiting to hear what she has to say. Aelin sighed before looking y/n straight in the eyes. "There is something that I didn't tell you about the closing of the gates."
Y/n's eyebrows furrowed. "But I thought you and Dorian told me everything that happened with you two when you were closing them."
"Dorian did tell you everything about what happened to him. I, however, didn't tell you what happened to me once I kicked Dorian out."
"Didn't you meet and then kill the Gods?"
"Yes, but after that I.....I ended up falling through worlds."
Y/n's eyebrows hit her hairline as she gasped "What?! How- What?!"
Aelin smiled slightly, "Well, after my 'lovely' encounter with the Gods, I ended up falling through worlds. So many different places, each more unique than the last. But it was too quick, I was just falling- almost flying through each gate. I was starting to loose hope when I fell into one world and saw a fae male with his pregnant mate looking up into the sky. It is thanks to whoever he was that I managed to slow down and find my way back home, back to my family, friends and most importantly, my mate."
Y/n's eyes were wide with wonder as she took a moment to process her words. After a minute, she cleared her throat, "That- that is unbelievable. Do you mean the same will happen to me?"
Aelin's expression turned serious as she placed her hand on y/n's shoulder and said, "That's what I wanted to talk to you about. I am not sure if such a thing will happen to you because I wasn't expecting it either but, whatever the case is, I wanted you to be aware of it. To be prepared and in the small chance that it does happen, be ready to find your way home because no one will be able to help you."
"And what if I can't? You said someone helped you to slow down. What if no one helps me? What if I just keep falling and falling forever?"
Aelin shook her head. "Listen to me, y/n. Yes, I may have gotten help to find my way back to this world but what mainly guided me was well, myself. My determination to see Rowan once again, my will to go back home and my confidence in my journey were what kept me from loosing my mind. I want you to do the same. Believe in yourself because if you don't, then no one will and you will fail to find your way back home. To your true home."
Y/n sighed "And how will I know where my true home is?"
She noted the quick glance Aelin gave to Fenrys before smiling back at her. "Home is wherever your heart is."
The queen gave her a small squeeze on the shoulder before joining her mate, leaving y/n to ponder what she meant. Deciding that she needed a moment of peace to herself, she left the room and headed towards...well, she had no idea where. All y/n knew was that she had to be alone for a little while and gather her thoughts.
Y/n kept on climbing stair after stair in one of the far towers of the palace. She might have been here for some time now, but y/n hadn't really explored the whole place, not that there even was any time for that, which is why she just kept following the stairs which seemed to keep moving upwards. She could just fly up now but y/n didn't think she had the energy for that at the moment.
Once she reached the top, there was a wooden door right in front the stairs, waiting for her to open it. When she did, the view knocked the breath out of her mouth. Y/n was standing on the rooftop of one of the palace towers, the night sky above painted in shimmering stars, the moon casting its glow over the fields and waters everywhere. This view was vastly different from the one she saw in the balcony because this place is so much more higher and-
Soft cushions! How lovely and peaceful. Y/n wished she could just stop the time and stay here like this forever. With a small smile, she sat down on one of the soft, large cushions and admired the view, or at least tried to with the kind of a mind she had right now. So much was happening, so many uncertainities, so many questions and complications, y/n didn't know what to do anymore. She just wanted to
"Disappear and never come back." Y/n closed her eyes as she pondered over what she just said out loud for only the stars in the night sky to hear.
“If you even think about disappearing, you’d better be ready for me to chase you to the ends of any world because I refuse to let your light be snuffed out.”
Y/n's eyes immediately pop open, her breath catching in surprise. She looks up to find Fenrys standing right above her, his intensity and passion clear in every line of his face.
Very well then, maybe the stars weren't the only ones to hear her small confession.
"Fenrys, what are you doing here- did you follow me?!"
He gave her a small smile and moved to sit next to her.
"In case you didn't know, my attention these days seems to only be focused on you so if you leave, that means I leave too."
"Don't you wish to be with your family? After all, tomorrow we have a battle to fight. I thought maybe you would want some privacy within the walls of your home-"
He gently took her hands in his larger ones and looked at her with an intense and serious gaze that couldn't even be explained.
"You are my home, y/n. You are my family. There is no me without you, I realize."
She scoffed. "Do not get your hopes up too high. There is a chance that I will simply die while trying to open the gates-"
His grip on her hands tightened. "Don't you dare finish that sentence, y/n."
The low growl that left his lips shouldn't make her feel this way, because this isn't the right time but.....y/n still felt her body betray her.
Her eyes widened slightly as she whispered, "You- you could move on-"
His face was mere inches away from her now, eyes intensely boring into hers. "Move on? You believe I could move on from the death of my mate?! My beloved? You?! Oh, princess if you die, I die too."
"W-what?! No!"
He smiled slightly, "Yes, I will kill myself so that I don't have to stay without my other half for who knows how long."
"Fenrys I-"
"I know, you haven't said anything about accepting or rejecting the bond but mate or not, I am hopelessly attached to you, y/n. This isn't obsession anymore, it's beyond that, I think...I think that I am starting to truly fall in love with you. Therefore, just as I said about never letting you disappear, I mean it even in death. I will follow you in death too."
Her eyes became glossy with tears as she smiled at Fenrys before hugging him and burying her face in the crook of his neck, smelling that delicious scent that is so distinctively him. Y/n felt his arms wrap protectively around her, his grip tightening as he pressed them as close as possible together.
She sighed, content to be in this male's arms before saying, "I have made my decision, Fen. I have an answer."
His arms slightly loosened from around her as she leaned back to look at him, her palms on his chest, a happy smile covering her face. Fenrys' gaze was full of mixed emotions, worry and fear being the main ones as he gazed expectantly at her.
With a determined voice she said, "Fenrys, I-"
But her sentence was cut off as a sharp pain overtook her body, making her bend over, hand going staright to her chest. Fenrys was immediately helping her, holding her firm yet gently as his shaky voice kept saying, "Y/n! What is happening?! Please princess, talk to me."
But she couldn't. Not when her whole body felt like it was being stabbed in all the places. Not when her chest felt heavy and she couldn't even breathe, let alone talk.
All she heard was the Book of Breathing's voice invading her mind and hissing, "They are close! They are coming!" "Come to me! Tell the queen to bring me to you!"
Everything was a blur, she distantly felt Fenrys pick her up and start running but her mind was in too much pain to process what was truly going on. The pain was becoming too much, too unbearable. At some point, y/n started screaming in agony. Or did she? She couldn't think anymore, didn't know what was real or imaginary.
Through the haze and the blur, she could only register that there were multiple heads around her, probably Aelin and others. There was a buzz in her ears that blocked out all the outer noises, including her cries and screams, except one.....Fenrys' rich, honey-like voice became her light at the end of a dark tunnel.
"Please, y/n, hold on a little more!"
"Princess, I am begging you, don't leave me!!"
"Y/n! Stay awake! Please!"
"Help her! Isolde, Yrene help her!"
"Don't fucking try to take me away Lorcan!!"
But then, all her pain suddenly stopped. Her muscles relaxed and her breathing slowly returned to normal, heart beating at a standard rate. Her mind started to slowly become aware as the books voice stopped banging through her walls. She slowly opened her eyes, hand immediately touching her face to feel her tear stained cheeks.
Her vision was still unclear but she could make out the silhouettes around her and just as she predicted, everyone was in the room, probably worriedly watching her-
She felt a hand on top of hers....not just any hand, Fenrys' hand. Her body seems to recognize and react to all of his touches.
"Y/n, princess, do you hear me?"
Her throat felt so dry and painful due to all the screams she had let out but, y/n managed to croak out a small "Y-yes"
She registered a couple of relieved sighs from around the room, someone saying "Oh, thank Aelin."
"Me? Why me?"
"You know, for being a queen, you still ask such silly questions. Whatever, the answer is....because you killed the Gods, of course!"
"Watch how you speak to my queen, Dorian."
"I-"
"Will you all silence yourselves?! Refocus your attention back to y/n, please!"
Y/n shut her eyes, hand gripping Fenrys' as she whispered, "Water, please."
She felt Fenrys grip loosen from her hand only to come behind her and help lift her into a sitting position as someone else helped her drink it.
Once she drank enough, y/n slowly opened her eyes, her haze starting to clear out as she noted the looks everyone around her were giving-
There was something on her lap.
Y/n tilted her head down and saw the same book that has been the bane of her existence ever since it sent her here, sitting right there, on her lap.
This is why her pain stopped. She is with the Book of Breathings, just like it told her.
"You kept screaming 'bring me the book' so, I ordered for it to immediately be brought here." Aelin's gentle voice invaded her mind, clearing her haze even more as y/n looked up at the queen in front of her bed.
The only word y/n could mutter as her hands gently touched the book was, "It says that they are coming. Rhys is ripping open the gates."
"Which explains your pain because you and the gates are clearly connected."
She slowly nodded her head at Aedion's words as Fenrys rubbed her back. "Let them come, then. No harm will come to you, princess. Not while I am here."
Lysandra cleared her throat "Not while we are here."
Aelin crossed her arms "I am aware that none of us are fond of those foreigners but, I will not tolerate any violence on my grounds unless they start it so, we shall greet them like we would anyone else. I am not saying be kind or all smiles, no. Just don't restort to physical violence and it shall be good. I am looking at you, Fenrys."
Fenrys just growled something incoherent and kept his gaze on the ground.
Dorian clapped his hands, "Well, it seems like none of us are getting any sleep tonight so we might as well go over our plans for one last time."
And as the hours passed and dawn started to slowly crack, y/n began to slowly burst with energy as she watched everyone around her plan, eat, drink, talk and plan some more. Her doubts forgotten temporarily as she snuggled closer to Fenrys' chest on the bed.
It was when she finally came outside with Fenrys to follow everyone into the war council room at the other end of the palace grounds, that it happened. The ground shook nonstop, the vibrations going all over her body. Fenrys immediately lunged for her, pinning her to the ground and covering her body with his as a blinding light just erupted all over the place, causing the guards and the rest of the court to also duck for a hiding spot and block their eyes.
A short moment later, the light vanished, leaving only a trail of smoke around. What in the Mother's name was tha-
A large gate opened and in came.....Rhysand, followed by the rest of them.
Cassian, Amren, Nesta, Feyre, Mor and.....Azriel. Oh, Gods.
Fenrys' heart was beating out of his chest as he tried to reel his mind back from what just happened while helping y/n up. Everyone around them were also getting up when another gate opened and in came complete strangers. As usual, Fenrys' first instinct was to move y/n to stand behind him but when he tried to do so, he saw how unmoving she was, her gaze transfixedon the newcomers.
That is when it clicked for him. This was Rhysand and his court. Fenrys turned his intense and calculating gaze towards them as Aelin and Rowan came forward, followed by the rest of the court while the guards surrounded the area.
The male standing at the front seemed poised and polished, even though his gaze told you all you needed to know. This had to be Rhysand. Holding his hand, was a golden-brown haired female with blue eyes. Probably Rhysands mate. There was a shoulder-length haired male with red siphons and wings just like y/n's except much larger. Next to him was a tall female with the same physical appearances as the other one. Probably sisters. There were two more females one tall, with golden blond hair, and the other short with black hair. The short one he saw once when she somehow appeared in his room and y/n called her.....Amren? And lastly, there was another winged male. Short, black hair cut close to his scalp, with a few strands covering his brows, golden-brown eyes and blue siphons. And some dark mist like things swirling all around him.
He already knew which was Rhysand so Fenrys took him out of the portrait. It was either the long haired one or the short haired one. The female beside long haired one was leaning too close to him. Too close to be considered nothing. And he was trying to shield her with his wing. So, they were definitely mates or atleast in some sort of a relationship. That left only the one with the blue siphons and weird shadows and from the way his eyes were looking all over the place in search of something, or rather someone, Fenrys knew that this had to be Azriel.
He was about to go towards him when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned his head sideways to see y/n looking at him with pleading eyes. "Please, not now." She whispered and how could he ever say no to her.
"It's you," Aelin's voice made them both turn their head towards where everyone was, the queen now standing face to face with Rhysand.
The high lord gave Fenrys' queen a smirk as he said, "So we meet again."
Aedion turned his head towards his cousin. "Aelin? What do you mean?"
She just kept looking at the male as she said to no one in particular, "Remember when I told you that I was falling through worlds? Well, I ended up in his world and saw him with his pregnant mate, looking into the sky. I was falling too fast so I thought I would just quickly pass through there but then I somehow slowed down due to the dark magic that enveloped me. You looked at me like you already knew where I was and gave me a smile and a wave before I was once again moving through worlds."
Rhysand nodded his head slightly as the female beside him said, "Rhys? Really?"
Aelin looked at the female, "I have to thank your mate. If it wasn't for him, I would have completely flown by my world and kept on falling for eternity. Thank you.....Rhysand."
That seemed to shock them all as Rhysand's eyes widened slightly before he once again was looking at the queen with cold indifference as he said, "How do you know my name?"
"Lucien," The blond female's gasp made the inner circle look beyond Aelin, Rowan, Lysandra and Aedion to see the rest of the court standing close by.
Lucien gave them all a cold look before drawing Petrah closer and holding her hand, the witches gaze never wavering away from the blond female's.
"What is this?! How did you end up here?!" The male with red siphons was now demanding as his eyes took in the whole area, coming to land on Fenrys, still not seeing y/n behind his tall and broad body.
Before anyone could answer, the short female said, "You are looking at the wrong one, Cassian." And then, as if she knew, her gaze darted to Fenrys before moving behind him, causing everyone else to also follow in her lead.
Fenrys felt y/n let out a deep sigh before moving to stand right beside him. He didn't want her to see them or for them to see her. All Fenrys wanted was to take her into his arms and disappear to a place where he could hide her forever. Just them two. They didn't deserve to set their nasty gazes on her. Especially not that fucker Azriel. Fenrys was barely keeping his rage at bay, one wrong move and they are done for.
He saw how all of their expressions went from being skeptical to being shocked. Azriel the most of all. He nearly fell down on his knees if not for the blond beside him, gripping him by the arm to try and stabilize him. He let out a disbelieving "Y/n..." as his shaking hands came to grip his hair.
Fenrys took her hand, silently letting her know that he and the rest of them are here, with her and that no harm will come her way. Y/n looked at each of them with the cold indifference she once used to give to Fenrys and that made him feel a little better knowing that they weren't getting any nice gestures or words out of her.
Rhysand looked at Azriel before saying, "Y/n, we have been looking everywhere for you. You have no idea how difficult it was to try and locate you, next time try to not disappear so suddenly on us, alright?" His statement landed flat as y/n gave no reaction to her once high lord.
That's my witchling, Fenrys proudly thought to himself.
Azriel tried to slowly take steps towards her but was stopped by Rowan and Aedion who stood in front of Fenrys while Dorian, Chaol and Lorcan had his and y/n's back. "Not so fast, bat. Who said you could go near her?"
Rowans tone made the winged male's gaze snap to him before moving to look at y/n. "Y/n! Please, my love, please, let us talk. I am begging you, let me in."
My love? My fucking love?
Oh, this male has a death wish, that is for sure.
"Don't." Lorcan's quiet but firm command from behind Fenrys made him pause and take in a deep breath to still cling into that thin thread of not resorting to violence and murder.
He felt y/n's hand shake as she also took in a sharp breath. Now, he was starting to doubt everything. To worry. What if she chooses Azriel? What if she leaves?
But then, he heard her say, "I have nothing to say to you, Azriel."
Azriel, however kept shaking his head, trying but failing to pass through Rowan and Lorcan. Although he is a quite big male, he is nothing near Fenrys and his two brothers, Rowan and Lorcan. None of them were. This would be over before it even began.
"No! No! You don't understand. Please, y/n! Let us talk! Let me explain!"
"Come home now, y/n. We found you." came Cassians voice from the other side.
"Yes, let us go back home and talk rationally there." Rhysands mate said as she looked kindly at y/n. But Fenrys knew better than to trust that look. After all, didn't she also contribute to y/n's declining mental state?
"You are safe now, you are with us once more, come." Fenrys noticed how Rhysands voice held a pleading tone within it as he addressed y/n.
Azriel kept on looking straight at her, either ignoring or not seeing Fenrys standing right beside her. That made him very irritated.
Y/n, still keeping her indifferent mask, said with a cold tone, "I am not coming home."
That shocked not just the inner circle, but Fenrys and his family too as everyone now looked at her.
Azriel's eyes widened as he immediately asked, "What?! Why?! Y/n, no! you know that we are together, that we must solve this issue and b happy once more-"
"No. You have a mate."
"No! I don't love her, I love you-"
"No, you don't."
"Why?! Why are you doing this to me?! Please, my love, Please, come home."
"I can't."
"Why?!"
"Because I have a mate!!"
That seemed to shut Azriel up as his and the inner circle's eyes widened in utter shock.
Y/n continued, her tone harsh as she tightly gripped Fenrys' hand.
"I have a mate here and I am not leaving. I also found my true family here, the one that doesn't neglect me or my troubles for their own benefit. My purpose is here, my life is here, my home is here."
Then she turned her head towards Fenrys, her gaze immediately softening as a small smile graced her lucious lips before she said, "I accept. I accept the bond, Fen."
The second she said that, Fenrys felt an overwhelming feeling overtake him as their bond finally came alive and he was flooded with both her and his emotions. Fenrys couldn't hide the huge smile that overtook him as he asked, "Really?!"
She smiled and nodded. "Really."
He couldn't believe this. He couldn't even explain what he was feeling. All Fenrys now knew was that she was truly his and he was truly hers. She won't leave. They are together forever.
"I accept the bond as well, princess."
He barely managed to finish his sentence before she gripped the collar of his shirt and pulled him down to kiss him. Fenrys immediately took a hold of her waist as he kissed her back just as hungrily and ferociously. Once he remembered that they have an audience, he hesitantly pulled away but not without giving her lips one last peck, a promise of more to come later on.
When they both looked back around, Fenrys saw how his family had knowing and proud looks on their faces, some smiling and some, like the idiots Dorian and Aedion, fully smirking mischeviously. On the other hand, Rhysand and his court were in pure and utter shock and seeing Azriels pain stricken face as he looked between him and her brought Fenrys so much pleasure.
"I am not leaving either." Came Lucien's voice as they all looked back at him.
The female beside the male whom Amren called Cassian recovered from her shock and crossed her arms. "Let me guess, you have found your mate as well, haven't you?"
The prince nodded his head as he let go of Petrah's hand only to pull her closer by the waist.
The blond female said, "And what about your brother? Your family?Elain-"
"I have ended everything with Elain. She was no true mate of mine."
"But she is sorry, Lucien. She is so sorry for treating you that way, for letting you go-"
"Well, too late. I couldn't really give less of a fuck anymore."
The blond female's gaze moved to Petrah before coming back to Lucien. "You know, I always knew you would end up being a traitor. I guess being a snake runs in the family-"
"Finish that sentence, I dare you." Petrah's tone was filled with warning as she glared back at the blond.
"Oh really? And what will happen when he will leave you too, claiming some bullshit like you weren't true mates and he needs to move on. What then? Believe me, you are nothing but a toy for him."
Before Lucien could say anything, Petrah moved away and started to slowly go towards the blond. A smirk overtaking her face as she said, "It's not my fault that the ladies of Prythian are such insecure crybabies. I know your true intentions, Mor. I know them very well. You couldn't care less about Lucien's mate fiasco, your problem is with his brother. You keep on projecting your anger at him because of his brother but let me tell you something, not anymore. You will not longer say stupid shit at him unless you want me to rip your tounge out."
Mor's gaze turned angry as she also came closer but faltered in her steps when Petrah let her iron teeth and nails show slightly. Manon's voice came loud and confident as she stood beside the witch.
"Careful with how you talk to us iron teeth witches, and especially be careful when I am present because you are trying to insult my subject. My second-in-command. And I don't take well to anyone trying to cross my kin. That includes y/n."
"You are a witch?"
"Y/n isn't your kin, witch. She is an Illyrian."
Nesta and Rhysand spoke at the same time, the female's eyes filled with wonder as she asked her question while the high lords gaze harsh as he looked straight at Manon.
Manon smirked and looked back at y/n, causing her to smirk back before pulling away from Fenrys and going towards the witch.
"I am an iron teeth witch as well." She easily let her teeth and nails show enough to have them surprised and then retracted them back.
The stunned silence and the increasing tension between Azriel and Fenrys was cut off by Aelin who cleared her throat, forcing Fenrys to stop glaring at the Illyrian who was glaring back just as harshly.
"Rhysand, I believe you got your answer from y/n. She wishes to stay here, with us and with her mate. I hope you will only act rationally and respect her wishes-"
"Respect her wishes? Her wish to throw us away like she wasn't with us for so many years? Her wish to completely discard the family-"
"Family?!" Y/n's once again cold voice cut Nesta off from her rambling as she looked slightly dumbstruck at y/n.
"You call yourselves my family?! Well, let me tell you something, my dear 'family', a family doesn't neglect its members, a family doesn't cover up the dirt of one of its members just because they saw him as closer to them," She directs her glare at Mor, "A family doesn't walk in on one of their own having a panick attack and then pretends as if nothing happened." Her gaze roams over everyone now, "A family doesn't say 'it is in the past, get over it' when someone tells them of their troubles, a family doesn't ignore someone who is clearly descending into depression and pretend as if everything is perfect. And lastly...." Her gaze stops on Azriel "A family doesn't get to pretend like they are loyal and care about you when all they had been doing was hiding the truth from me about the male I once loved."
The male I once loved.
The male I once loved.
The male I once loved.
Fenrys couldn't hide the smirk on his face as he watched them all, stunned in silence, Azriel's wide eyes staring at her in shock, body trembling, clearly out of words.
He was so proud of her. So, so, proud of his y/n, his witchling, his princess,
His mate.
"Y/n-"
"No-"
"Oh, y/n-"
"I am so sorry-"
"It was none of our intention-"
"Save it. All of you. Rhysand, you got your answer from me. I am not coming with you. You may leave now."
"No, actually, they can't."
Everyone looked at Dorian who now pushed through Rowan and Aedion to get to the front and faced Rhysand.
"The lunar eclipse is today, in about eight or nine hours from now and if they open the gates once more,"
"The magic will shift again, causing the gates to open in wrong locations," Amren seemingly caught on to the kings theory.
He nodded his head before continuing, "And because y/n has the special connection with the book, the gates and all, she may end up failing when trying to close them. Or worse, she could end up in different places. We can't risk it. I suggest you stay until the lunar eclipse. Once that starts, y/n will be busy with the gates while we will be busy with the valgs. She will close every gate. Once defeated, she can manage to send you home before finally sealing this gate as well."
Dorian was looking at Aelin now, expecting her to say something. She nodded her head as she looked back at Rhysand. "What do you say? And before you ask, I swear this is no ruse to get you all trapped or whatever, y/n will truly close the gates today. No violence or harm shall come from our side to you unless you start it. Then, I can't promise you anything.
Before Rhysand could say anything, Cassian asked, "What is a valg and how for Mother's sake can y/n connect with gates?"
Feyre nudged him in the ribs before looking back at Aelin, "We accept. We will stay for the next however many hours and help-"
"Your help isn't needed." Both y/n and Lysandra spoke at the same time, their gazes equally defensive.
"Needed or not, that is the only way we can ensure they don't end up in a wrong place and then blame us for it." Azriel's glare went towards Rowan as he said, "You think you are so smart, don't you? You think you know it all? How fucking pathetic."
Clearly, Azriel wasn't in his right mind right now but that didn't make Fenrys any less furious for the way that prick talked to his friend and prince.
Rowan didn't even give Azriel an ounce of his attention as he took ahold of Aelin's waist, pulling her closer and looked at Rhysand. "I assume you are their ruler. What do you say?"
Rhysand assesed everyone before looking back at the queen and the prince consort as he said, "We may have hurt y/n and broken her trust but she hasn't broken ours. If she trusts you enough to be here, we shall trust you enough to be here. I also swear to keep my members in line and make sure no harm comes from our side either."
Aelin nodded as she said, "Very well, then. Follow me." She turned to leave with Rowan beside her followed by everyone else but Fenrys stayed back when he saw y/n quickly say something to Aelin before coming towards him only to be stopped by Azriel getting in her way.
Oh, you little fucker.
"Y/n, please, there has been a misunderstanding. Please, let us talk-"
She didn't even acknowledge a word he said as she moved past him and headed straight towards Fenrys, taking ahold of his hand before moving in the opposite direction to the wing in which her room was located in.
She saw how Fenrys gave the Illyrian a smirk before turning around and following his mate.
"I have been dying to get to you! I have been so sorry! Please!"
His cries for her went on deaf ears as she led her mate towards the palace. Once inside her room, Fenrys said, "What was that about-"
"Shhhh"
She silenced him with a quick peck to his lips before once more taking his hand and a small lamp while leading him towards the very place she felt the need to show him. The Crystal Caverns. When she moved the creaked floorboard, Fenrys' shock was evident on his face as he looked at the stairs leading into the darkness beyond.
"What- how- what is this? Since when has it been here?"
She turned to look at him and smiled. "I discovered it a little while after I came here. Trust me, Fen. You won't regret it. Just follow me."
He took ahold of her hand as he said with the most serious tone ever, "I will always follow you, my princess. I trust you enough to lead me anywhere."
She couldn't hide the overflow of emotions she felt for him and from the looks on his face, Fenrys felt all of them as well through the now golden bond.
After a while of walking while telling Fenrys all about the place, they finally arrived at the breathtaking location of crystal caverns. Y/n watched every move and reaction that Fenrys made as his wide eyes took in the place, mouth wide open in utter bewilderment.
She smiled and let him look around as she moved towards the small glittering lake, staring into the beautiful and translucent colors eminating from it due to the crystals underwater.
"It is beautiful, isn't it, Fen?"
"It is, but not as beautiful as you." His voice sounded from right near her ear, slightly startling her as y/n turned her head sideways and looked at him.
And then, she whispered the words that changed the mood completely.
"My mate,"
Fenrys' eyes visibly turned darker as his pupils dilated, his breath suddenly coming in ragged breaths and the small scent of his arousal hitting her nose immediately. Y/n herself felt all hot as she squeezed her thighs to try and keep her arousal from him but....from the way Fenrys suddenly turned her around and breathed her in, nuzzling his head in her neck and groaning, y/n knew it was fruitless to hide from him. Not anymore.
He pulled his head away slightly, face mere inches away from hers as he whispered, "Ask me to kiss you."
Her reply came immediately, "Kiss me, Fenrys."
She barely managed to finish the sentence when his lips collided with hers. His tounge invading her mouth as they both fought for dominance in their hungry kiss, Fenrys eventually getting the upper hand.
Without breaking the kiss, she tugged at his tunic, signaling for him to take it off. Fenrys didn't need anymore telling as he immediately ripped it away, hands then coming to help her unclasp her ties in the back of her dress. Once that was on the floor, she was left in her undergarments which caused him to break away and step back to admire her body, her scars and her curves.
She tried to move her hands and cover her exposed areas but his fierce, dominating voice stopped her in her tracks.
"Don't you dare."
She put her hands down immediately, letting him devour her with just his yes. Another wave of arousal overtook her as she felt herself getting wetter.
"Take off your undergarments and get in the water, princess."
She did as he told her, slowly taking off each piece while keeping her eyes on his. Once she was completely naked, Fenrys groaned loudly as he took her in from head to toe.
"Gods, you are perfect. And all fucking mine."
"And you are mine."
He clearly enjoyed her posessive tone as slowly started to take down his pants with a smirk. "Oh, yeah, princess?"
She nodded her head slowly, eyes admiring every inch of him as Fenrys took off his last garment that hid his prominent erection from her. And oh Gods.....the sheer size and girth of him made her knees buckle. His tip was all red and angry, waiting for her.
She slowly glided her gaze back to his before turning around and seductively swaying her hips on her way towards the lake. Once she entered it, the warm water reaching her mid-ribs, she turned to look at him. Fenrys' eyes never left hers as he took deliberately slow steps towards her, eventually also immersing himself in the water.
They were standing chest to chest now, Fenrys' hand slowly rised out of the water as he moved a strand of her hair behind her ear. He then gently took ahold of the back of her head, bringing their lips closer as her arms went to his biceps. The kiss was full of words they couldn't express. Desperation, hunger, posessiveness, obsession and adoration. Both of their hands exploring each others assets as he gently squeezed her cheek underwater causing a small yelp to come out of her, granting him the access he needed to fully devour her mouth.
After a while, his mouth moved to her jaw and then her neck, leaving open mouthed and desperate kisses but also bites that clearly marked her as his. Y/n tried to hide her moans but stopped when he lifted his head, looking down on her as he said in an attractively raspy voice, "Don't hide your pretty noises from me, princess. There is no one here and even if there was, they would know that you are mine and mine alone so sing for me, witchling."
She did as he asked, letting her moans out as Fenrys kept on going lower and lower, kissing over her collarbones and scars before reaching her breasts and sucking one, while playing with the other. She could feel his hard erection pressing right against her now, causing her to squeeze her thighs which led to Fenrys letting out a strangled moan.
"Fen, please,"
He lifted his head, one hand slowly submerging underwater to slowly find its way towards the place she needed him in the most.
"Please what?"
"Please-" Her gasp cut off her sentence as one of his long and thick fingers entered her mound, causing her eyes to roll back and hands clench on his biceps.
"Please what, princess?"
"I-" A second finger entered her, making her head fall onto his shoulder, small moans emitting from her mouth.
"Princess, what happened?"
Before she even processed his words, a third finger was inside her, invading her walls as his pace quickened, his palm now hitting her cunt as she felt that spark within her build up.
"D-don't s-s-stop"
"Wasn't planning to, princess."
His other hand took ahold the back of her neck as he moved her head back and attacked her neck once more. Her release was quickly building up and his lips on her neck just intesified it tenfold.
His lips came to her ear, hot breath hitting her as he said, "You are mine now, this cunt is mine, this ass is mine, this body is mine, your everything is mine. You are mine and I will prove it to you in every possible way."
That was her undoing as with a final thrust, she let out a loud moan and came all over his fingers, chest heaving up and down as she slowly looked at him through the haze within her and oh, Gods....he was watching her the entire time, his intense and hungry eyes fixed on her completely as he slowly took his hand out from underwater and licked his fingers, groaning at the taste of her on his tounge, causing her to flush red.
"Y/n-"
Y/n didn't give him a chance to finish his sentence before she leapt on to him, joining their lips once more and tasting herself on his tounge. She pulled away slightly, both of them panting heavily as she whispered, "Fuck me, Fenrys."
He groaned out a "Fuck, princess. You are killing me. Jump."
She wasted no time in jumping on to him, Fenrys catching her under the thighs as he lined his cock with her entrance. He slowly entered her, inch by inch, making her let out a silent moan before he kissed her fiercely. Her grip behind his neck tightened as her hands tangled in his hair and her mound took in more and more of him with each stretch until he was fully inside her.
He gave her time to adjust before she nuzzled her head in his neck and whispered a "Move, please."
He started off slow, not wanting to hurt her and y/n already felt so full, her pain quickly dissolving into pleasure as she soon started to kiss and bite his throat, causing him to moan loudly as he picked up his pace, balls slapping against her skin.
Their moans echoed all throughout the place as her walls tightened around him, his tip constantly hitting her spongy spot. Her mind was completely hazy, her mouth was open, everything was a blank. She thought nothing but Fenrys and how good he felt. How she never wanted to leave this cave and make this moment end. She wanted to be with him, forever.
They came together and stayed like that for a while before their newly mated bond caused their insatiable need for one another to renew. After they fucked like rabbits in almost every part of the cave, after Fenrys ate her out who knows how many times more, they were both spent as they lay on the ground, limbs all tangled, bodies all wet with sweat and water as she put her head on his beating chest while he caressed her hair and looked up at the crystals covering the rocky ceilings.
"You know, we Illyrian's have very sensitive wings."
"Yes, you told that to Eva."
"But what I didn't tell her is that, that sensitivity also applies in sex. There is a specific place within the muscles in our wings that if touched properly, we can just cum from that alone."
"Oh, yeah? Hmmm I will test that out for my self soon enough then."
But then she felt his hand on her back, touching her biggest scar and suddenly her mood dampened.
"Who gave you all these scars, princess?"
She sighed and closed her eyes as she whispered, "A cruel monster."
His hands kept on gently caressing her even though she felt his body slightly stiffen as he whispered back, "Where is he now?"
"Dead."
"You killed him?" She heard the surprise in his voice as she nodded her head, still refusing to look at him and said, "My first kill. I was twenty."
"How did he give these scars to you?"
"Let that be a story for another time. I don't wish to talk about it now."
And so they didn't talk. Not with words atleast. But Fenrys made sure to show her all the love with his body as they stayed in the crystal caverns for a little more before bathing in the small lake and then leaving the place hand in hand. Their joy at finally being joined in both body and soul emanating from them both.
Fenrys had never felt so fulfilled in his life before. Finally being with his mate after years of being alone brought him the peace he has been seeking for so long. Even though they are about to face something so terrifying, Fenrys knew that they would be fine as long as their bond stayed strong.
Everyone was in the war council chamber when they entered the room. His protective instincts made Fenrys draw her closer to his body before moving towards the side of the area in which his family was. The high lord, who was listening to Aelin's plans carefully, failed to hide the shame on his face when y/n entered the room. All of their eyes were on her as Fenrys led her to sit with the women; Manon, Petrah, Yrene, Lysandra and Elide.
The anger from Azriel could be felt even if they were miles and miles apart and that alone made Fenrys full with pride.
"Finally, after three hours, you decide to grace us with your prese- oh, now I see." Lorcan had the most mischevious grin on his face as he smelled Fenrys and then looked over at y/n.
Fenrys, still not taking his eyes off of Azriel's intense gaze from across the room, asked Lorcan, "How was it while we were gone?"
Lorcan just scoffed as he looked around the place, his eyes coming to land on Rowan and Aelin explaining whatever to Rhysand and his court.
"I came this close to ripping off that Cassians head about three times in the past hour alone. He is giving all of us these dirty looks, well, how about he tries to give me that look when I am punching him into the ground. His mate-Nesta- is no different- did you know, she also has some death powers like bringing dead people to her feet or something? Apparently they call her lady death."
"Anyways, then that Mor kept looking at Lucien and Petrah which caused her to at some point yell at Mor something like 'If you keep staring some more, I won't hesitate to rip your throat out' and that caused Mor to challenge her and then the whole place turned into a disaster of two sides arguing before Rhysand managed to interfere and calm his court down."
And then, Lorcan's eyes widened as he turned to look at Fenrys with a huge smile and hit him on the arm. "Oooh and my favorite moment was when in the middle of a somewhat civil-as civil as you can get with these barbarians-discussion, Azriel asked where was y/n and Dorian decided it would be a great idea to provoke him by saying 'with her mate, probably fucking.' Oh, Godsss, you should have seen that pricks face, Fenrys. It was like all the color got drained out of him."
Fenrys noted to thank Dorian later on for that as a huge grin overtook his face. He then looked towards the windows where his beautiful mate was with Manon, Petrah and Yrene now, listening attentively as the healer explained something to her by pointing into the book. Even seeing her caused a soft smile to overtake his features as he admired what was now his.
Once all of this was over, he would take her away for some time where it could be just the two of them, basking in their newly found relationship. He looked back at Lorcan and said, "Care for a walk?"
"I would love to." Dorian's voice interrupted Lorcan's as the king popped from behind Lorcan.
Lorcan rolled his eyes. "No one invited you, little king."
Dorian just shrugged as Chaol, Lucien and Aedion also came to stand with them.
"Oh, well. We are all about to risk our lives once more so might as well have a lovely little walk beforehand."
Aedion nodded his head. "Rowan and Aelin seem to have it handled. Just get me out of here, please. I don't know how much of this tension I can take."
Fenrys sighed, "Very well. Looks like what was meant to be an only two person chat will end up becoming a five person chat."
Lucien smirked, "We can't miss the exciting conversation about how you and y/n mated, you know."
Chaol rolled his eyes as they moved to first kiss their women a temporary goodbye. "You are acting as if you and Petrah didn't also just newly mate."
Lucien hugged his mate before pressing a soft kiss to her cheek, causing her to smile up at him. "We will take turns in telling."
Fenrys ignored the rest of the conversation as he moved to kiss his woman fiercely, leaving her breathless once they detached, her eyes once more filling with lust.
"We will be back soon, little warrior."
Her eyes darted to the others before a small blush crept up her cheeks and she smiled while nodding.
Gods, she was so adorable, Fenrys just wanted to eat her whole.
They left the room and headed towards the royal gardens when an irritating voice stopped them.
"You think you can take my mate from me and get away with it, you viper?!"
Fenrys and the others immediately turned around to find Azriel and Cassian heading straight towards them as Cassian tried but failed to hold him back by the shoulder.
Lorcan and Aedion immediately stepped forward but Fenrys pushed them back, all of their warnings of 'Don't do it.' 'Don't fall for his games' 'He is just provoking you' 'Ignore him' fell on deaf ears as Fenrys stood proud and tall when Azriel--who turned out to be a couple of inches shorter--came to stand right in front of his face.
Cassian, whose slightly anxious eyes now darted towards Lorcan due to his huge size, tried to once again push his brother back but failed miserably when Azriel snarled in Fenrys' face.
"You won't get away with this. She is mine and she knows it. Y/n will come home with me and we will be together once more."
Fenrys kept his indifferent mask on as he said, "Don't you have a mate? Hmmm I wonder what she would think if her beloved is here trying to get back what was never his to begin with."
Azriels eyes narrowed into slits as he said, "You are no mate for her. You are undeserving of her. Who do you think you are? Nobody but a stranger from a different world who interfered with our relationship-"
The dam broke.
The wolf was unleashed.
Fenrys landed his first blow right into Azriel's jaw and hit him with the second one right in the ribs before he even had time to think about it.
Azriel staggered back, a sharp breath escaping his lips as he struggled to regain his footing. His eyes, usually calm and calculating, now burned with a fierce, unyielding fire. The air between them crackled with tension, charged with the raw energy of their confrontation.
With a snarl, Azriel righted himself, his dark wings flaring as he used their power to launch himself back into the fray. He swung a powerful arc with his staff, aiming to catch Fenrys off guard. But Fenrys was ready. With a swift, practiced move, he dodged the blow and countered with a spinning kick that connected solidly with Azriel’s midsection.
In the distance, he could hear shouts and screams. Probably his brothers stopping Cassian or maybe Lorcan too, is releasing his anger on Cassian or maybe they are trying to stop Fenrys. Whatever the case is, he didn't care. Fenrys tried. He tried for y/n. Tried for his queen and tried for his brother but no, Azriel had to breach the line and now, he was facing the consequences.
Azriel grunted, the impact sending him crashing into a nearby stone pillar. He pushed himself up with a growl of determination, wiping a trickle of blood from his split lip. His gaze locked onto Fenrys with renewed intensity.
“Is that all you’ve got?” Azriel’s voice was a low, dangerous growl.
Fenrys smirked, the adrenaline of battle fueling his movements. He advanced, his movements fluid and fierce, each step calculated to keep Azriel on the defensive. He feigned a left jab, only to deliver a right hook to Azriel’s temple.
Maybe in their world, Azriel, Cassian and Rhysand are considered the best, the largest, the most powerful. But here? Azriel was nothing but a faeling for Fenrys. None of them were match for the Cadre.
Azriel reeled, but he quickly recovered, his eyes narrowing as he harnessed his power. In a swift, fluid motion, he conjured a blade of shadow and lashed out with it. The dark blade cut through the air with a menacing hiss. Fenrys barely had time to react, raising his forearm to block the strike. The blade scraped against his skin, leaving a searing, burning sensation in its wake.
He spread his wings wide, using them to shield himself from Fenrys’s next onslaught. As Fenrys closed in, Azriel’s dark magic surged, swirling around him in a protective barrier.
Fenrys didn’t hesitate. He gathered his strength and charged through the barrier with a roar, breaking through the swirling shadows and driving Azriel back with a brutal series of strikes. The clash of their powers reverberated through the air, each blow resonating with the intensity of their struggle.
Azriel’s breath came in ragged gasps as he fought to keep up with Fenrys’s relentless assault. Azriel's shadows seemingly decided to leave him alone, disappearing into who knows where. Fenrys managed to pin him to the ground, delivering blow after blow, his anger knowing no bounds or limits.
He could shift into a wolf but then that would mean that he has to kill Azriel and although he would love nothing more, Fenrys was still sensible enough to know that by doing it, he would unleash a myriad of unwanted problems.
He saw nothing and heard nothing but Azriel and his bone crunching under Fenrys' fists. Oh the pleasure it brought to him to finally have him like this-
Two small hands were on his, trying to drag him away-
He would know these hands and this scent anywhere. The only one who can ever calm him down. His princess, his witchling, his mate.
Y/n.
"Fen, please stop this!"
"Please, Fenrys!"
He let go of Azriel as y/n managed to drag him away, the rest of their family coming to circle all around him.
"Gods, Fenrys. Are you out of your mind?!" Aedion.
"I think I made it clear when I said no fights!" Aelin.
"You did so good, Fenrys. Thanks to you I got to punch Cassian when he tried to attack us for beating up Azriel." fucking Lorcan.
"Look at your hands!" Yrene.
"Why did I even try with warning you in the first place?" Rowan.
"Fen, please, look at me." His love, y/n.
Fenrys' eyes immediately snapped up to her and before anyone could say anything else, he grabbed her by the waist and hoisted her up onto his shoulder, pushing through others and heading towards the palace.
"Fenrys!"
"Fen, please put me down!"
He ignored her.
A sigh. "Atleast go to the healing hut where we can do something about those bloody knuckles of yours."
He obliged.
Once in the healing hut, he put her down before she knocked on Isolde's door and entered it once the healer opened it.
"Oh Fenrys, what have you done?" Isolde said while slightly shaking her head and gesturing for them to sit down as she went to search for some medicine. Y/n turned to look at him with all the worry in the world evident in her hypnotizing eyes.
"What were you thinking? You promised-"
"He provoked me too much. I couldn't hold it back anymore."
She sighed as Isolde came back with a small wooden box in her hand, giving it to y/n. "Apply this salve over his injuries, they should heal in a days time."
Y/n nodded and said her thanks before the healer turned and left to another corner of the room. Y/n opened the circular box and wiped some of the salve with her fingers before taking his right hand in hers and gently applying it onto them.
"Well, thank you."
Fenrys' eyes widened slightly. "Thank you? For what?"
She smiled. "For standing up for me. For protecting my honor. Azriel is in a horrible condition, you know. If you continued some more, he would end up dead."
Fenrys grunted. "Should've kept punching, then."
She moved her hands from his to his face, cupping it and bringing him closer to her as she looked between his eyes, "I am glad you didn't, Fen. What you already have done has been more than enough. I am so proud of you for everything."
He smiled softly at her as his arm came around her waist, pulling her closer to him as he delivered a soft kiss to his mate's delectable lips.
The next hours passed in high tensions as neither of the courts spoke with each other, only acknowledging one another when needed. As the hours drew closer, y/n just kept her anxious thoughts at bay by burying herself in her mate's arms as they sat on a couch in the sitting room with their family around.
Finally, as she watched her mate and friends choose weapons for the battle, y/n felt her fears slowly to start creeping up-
"Everything will be fine, you will do just fine." Yrene's soothing voice sounded in her ear as they both stood on the sidelines and watched everything going around them.
Dorian entered the room with the book in hand, heading towards them as he said, "The best place for this will be in the forest, ladies. We don't need to destroy any furniture, you know."
Y/n and Yrene smiled as the former said, "Let us get going as well then."
"And not say farewell to us?" Aelin's feigned hurt tone made them look at her, all strapped with weapons as y/n said, "Of course not before that."
"Good, because I don't think I can leave without kissing you some more." Lorcan said to his wife as Elide giggled.
"Get a room, you two." Dorian's disgust at them vanished the second he had Manon in his arms and began devouring her face.
"Such babies," Yrene said while shaking her head as she let her husband hug her tightly.
In the other side of the room, Lysandra, Aedion and Eva were having their own family moment as Fenrys approached y/n.
“Be careful please,” she said as Fenrys hugged her in his arms, inhaling her scent.
“If being careful means coming back to you, then I most certainly will be.”
She nuzzled her head in his chest, “I am afraid, Fen.”
He kissed the top of her head gently, “Don’t be, I will send you energy through the bond if I feel you declining.”
She closed her eyes, pure bliss overtaking her “Hmmm”
“If any of those vipers try to do something to you-“
“Fen, no. They won’t because they are ashamed to even look at me in the eye. I will be fine.”
“We are leaving, everyone!” Aelin’s voice boomed across the room as the couples began detaching.
“Ask me to kiss you.”
She smiled and pulled away. “Not this time, Fen. I will kiss you when you comeback home to me. Alive.”
He smiled back and said, “Very well, witch.”
And before she knew it, with a final look, he was heading towards Rowan and Aelin.
Once they were gone, Dorian told the guards to inform Rhysand and his court that it is time.
As they began preparing for their short journey to the woods, the inner circle entered. Y/n felt her body tense slightly but decided to ignore them all and keep her hands busy with helping Yrene roll the scriptures.
Lucien came into the room a moment later as Eva crossed her arms and asked him, “And where, pray tell, were you?”
He just smiled sheepishly and said, “Can’t a male have his privacy with his mate?”
Elide snickered before they heard a scoff from the other side of the room….Mor.
Y/n put her hand on his shoulder and whispered, “Ignore them, they will be gone soon, Lu.”
He just nodded his head stiffly but didn’t say anything else.
“Very well, everyone. Time to leave.” Dorian announced as he exited the door, book in hand.
During their walk, y/n felt like she could cut the tension with a knife as the inner circle followed them through the woods. At some point, Nesta tried to speak to her but y/n cut her off with an ‘I don’t want to hear it.’
More also tried apologizing for the whole panic attack situation but, y/n ignored her too. Azriel could barely even walk, let alone breathe as Cassian, who had a giant bruise on his cheekbone, held his brother up.
She just kept close to her friends and followed the path Dorian went. When they finally arrived, the place looked like some sort of a ritual point. A huge circle made out of stone held up large boulders with unique carvings on them as green ivy’s covered most of the ground and surrounding area.
Dorian placed the book in the very center and then turned to look at y/n. “Tell it to open the right page.”
Y/n came forward and put her hand on the book, her body filling with energy as she looked down at the object and said, “Open the right page.”
The book needed no more commands as it’s pages flipped through on their own accord, coming to land on a text with ancient writing.
Yrene nodded her head before turning to look at the inner circle. “Since you all will be leaving together, I suggest you do not separate at all.”
Rhysand gave her a short, curt, nod before turning to his court and saying something in a low voice  to them.
Dorian looked at Lucien, Elide, Eva, Yrene and then at her as he said, “Very well, family. Y/n, the lunar eclipse shall begin in…when will it begin again Yrene?”
The healer looked up into the sky and said, “If my calculations were correct, in exactly two minutes.”
“So, once the eclipse begins, I put my hand on this writing and hone in my energy?”
They all gave her small nods before Eva asked, “Are we sure that the gates will open?”
Dorian just sighed. “For our sake, let us hope that they will.”
“I think it is starting.” Elide announced as she looked upwards, followed by everyone else as y/n heard Feyre gasp and say, “What is happening?”
“It is time.” Dorian looked at y/n, a small encouraging smile on his face as Yrene opened her scriptures and began reciting the spells she deciphered from the book in the library. What they did, y/n had no idea but she trusted the healer too much to ever doubt her skills.
Elide, Lucien and Eva stood nearby, observing and ready to help at any second as the inner circle too, came closer.
Y/n could feel all the eyes on her as she sighed and closed her eyes, bringing her palm up and on to the page.
The second her hand landed on the magical writing, her blood felt molten, her body feeling too heavy. It was like she was burning from the inside.
And then, all of a sudden, it was as if something gripped her from the back and yanked her into darkness.
“Elara’s daughter”
“The connected”
“The key”
“The chosen one”
Multiple ancient voices were hissing all around her as y/n kept on falling through the darkness.
“Have you come to close the gates, child?”
“Fool, you shall die.”
She fell and fell until her back hit something strong. With a groan, y/n got up  and looked around, only mist and fog were around her. What was this place?
She couldn’t see much due to the fog but she tried her best and stretched her arms in front of her to try and feel where she was going.
“You think you can close the gates and keep end the valgs?”
She suddenly turned around to find a towering figure emerging from the mist. Cloaked in shadows, its eyes glowed a piercing blue, cutting through the darkness. The figure seemed to absorb the very light around it, creating an aura of dread that chilled y/n to her core.
"You think you can close the gates and end the valgs?" The voice echoed again, this time more pronounced, filled with both curiosity and malice.
"I have to," y/n whispered, her voice trembling yet determined. "It's my destiny."
The figure laughed, a cold, harsh sound that reverberated through the void. "Destiny, child? Or a curse?"
With a wave of its hand, the mist parted, revealing a path lined with ancient, rune-covered stones. "Follow the path if you dare. But beware, for not all who tread here return."
Determined, y/n took a deep breath and stepped forward, her resolve hardening with each step. The path seemed endless, winding through the fog, with the voices of the ancients whispering warnings and secrets in her ears. The weight of her destiny pressed heavily upon her, but she knew she had no choice but to continue.
The path led y/n deeper into the mist, where the air grew colder and the whispers grew louder, each step echoing with an ominous finality. As she continued, the runes on the stones began to glow faintly, casting eerie shadows that danced and shifted around her.
After what felt like an eternity, she arrived at a massive, ancient gate made of black stone, covered in intricate carvings and sigils that seemed to pulse with a dark energy. This was the source of the whispers, the place where the voices of the ancients converged.
Before the gate stood a tall, imposing figure draped in dark robes, its face hidden beneath a hood. In its hands, it held a staff topped with a glowing crystal, emanating an otherworldly light.
"You have arrived, Elara’s daughter," the figure intoned, its voice resonating with a power that shook y/n to her core. "This is the Gate of Shadows, the barrier between worlds. To close it, you must face the darkness within and without."
The gate slowly began to creak open, revealing a swirling vortex of shadows and light beyond. The figure raised its staff, and the crystal’s glow intensified, casting a protective circle around y/n.
"Step forward, child, and confront your destiny. But remember, the darkness will test you. Only those with the purest hearts and strongest wills can prevail."
With a deep breath, y/n stepped through the gate, into the heart of the vortex, ready to face whatever trials awaited her within.
As y/n stepped through the gate, she felt an immediate pull, like being drawn into a powerful current. The swirling shadows and light enveloped her, and she was plunged into a world of chaotic energy. Shapes and figures moved within the darkness, whispering her name, taunting and challenging her resolve.
As y/n stepped through the gate, she felt an immediate pull, like being drawn into a powerful current. The swirling shadows and light enveloped her, and she was plunged into a world of chaotic energy. Shapes and figures moved within the darkness, whispering her name, taunting and challenging her resolve.
The first trial began almost instantly. The shadows coalesced into a figure resembling her mother, Elara. The figure’s eyes glowed with an unearthly light, and its voice was a haunting echo of her mother’s.
"Do you really think you can succeed where I failed?" the shadow-Elara taunted. "You are but a child, untested and weak."
Y/n’s heart ached at the sight, but she stood firm, clenching her fists. "I am stronger than you think. I carry your legacy, and I will not fail."
The shadow-Elara lunged at her, its form twisting into a monstrous shape. Y/n dodged and summoned her inner strength, feeling the magic within her pulse and surge. With a fierce cry, she released a burst of light, dispelling the shadow.
The vortex shifted, and y/n found herself in a vast, desolate landscape, the sky above a swirling mass of storm clouds. In the distance, she saw a figure standing alone. As she approached, she realized it was herself, a mirror image staring back at her with cold, calculating eyes.
"This is your second trial," the doppelgänger said, its voice a perfect replica of her own. "You must confront your own fears and doubts. Are you ready to face yourself?"
Y/n nodded, feeling a mix of fear and determination. "I am ready."
The battle was intense, with the doppelgänger matching her every move, every spell, every strike. But y/n drew on the memories of her journey, the lessons learned, the bonds formed. With each strike, she remembered her purpose, her friends, and her promise to end the valgs. Her iron fangs and claws working nonstop to help her in defeating her own self.
Finally, with a powerful surge of magic, y/n overwhelmed her doppelgänger, who dissolved into a swirl of shadows. Breathing heavily, she stood victorious, but exhausted.
The landscape shifted once more, and y/n found herself in a serene, beautiful garden, a stark contrast to the trials she had just faced. In the center of the garden stood a towering tree, its branches covered in shimmering, golden leaves. At its base, a small, intricately carved box rested, emanating a soft, warm light.
As she approached the tree, the ancient voices returned, now gentle and guiding. "This is the heart of the gate. To close it, you must place your hand upon the box and channel your magic. But be warned, the gate will resist, and the valgs will try to stop you."
With renewed determination, y/n placed her hand on the box. Immediately, she felt a surge of resistance, as if the gate itself was fighting against her. Dark figures began to emerge from the shadows, the valgs intent on stopping her.
Drawing on every ounce of her strength and magic, y/n focused on the box, channeling her energy into it. The light grew brighter, pushing back the darkness. The valgs advanced, but she held firm, determined to see this through. Black, foggy claws were on her from every side, trying to drag her back as ugly voices said, “You won’t prevail. You won’t prevail.”
With a final, powerful burst of magic, the light from the box exploded outward, engulfing the garden and the shadows. The ancient voices cried out in triumph as the gate began to close, the vortex of shadows and light dissipating.
As the world around her faded to white, y/n felt a sense of peace wash over her. She had faced her trials, confronted her fears, and emerged victorious. The gate was closed, and the valgs were no more. Or at-least she hoped that was the case-
“Y/n.”
She turned around to find the inner circle. They were in some sort of a hallway that seemed to glow white from all around. Behind Rhysand and his court was a gate that was slowly-very slowly- closing.
They all looked at her with so much shame, with so much guilt. Y/n sighed and decided to speak first because she knew that this would be the last time they ever saw one another.
“I forgive you all. I won’t forget any of it but I do not wish for us to part with unfortunate feelings towards one another.”
Feyre was fully tearing up as Rhysand gripped her hand. For the first time, she saw Amren’s eyes full with sadness as her unusually soft voice called out to her, “We shall carry this guilt with us forever, girl.”
Nesta who was standing next to Amren, nodded her head, a tear sliding down her cheek as she said, “I am happy to know that you have found a family that will truly cherish you.”
“That will succeed in the places we failed.” Mor said mournfully.
Rhysand gave her a small, grateful smile as he said, “It was my honor to have known you for so long. Your invaluable presence will never be replaced.”
As they began turning one by one and entering the closing gate, Cassian’s pained face looked at her. “I am so sorry, sweets. So sorry for letting you down.”
She gave him a small smile as he too, turned around and went through the gate, leaving only Azriel behind as he looked back at the now quickly closing gate and then at her.
“Y/n-“
“I understand, Azriel. We had a beautiful time while together and I believe that is something I shall never forget. In a way, we both prepared each other to ultimately meet our mates. Now go, be with her. I wish you both well.”
He gave her a small smile. “I will forever carry this guilt with me, but I wish you the best as well. My love for you will never cease to exist, y/n dearest.”
Then, he turned around and entered the gate, giving her final look of gratitude before the gate closed completely.
She sighed and turned around, taking a step forward-
Her foot fell through a hole. She was falling once more. World after world, gate after gate, she saw glimpses of different realms, different places before their gates too, sealed off completely.
She saw a world with tall buildings and shimmering lights, a world filled with vast dunes and oasis cities, a world where a whole civilization was underwater, a world where multiple Islands were floating in the air.
She went through world after world, the gates shutting off after she passed through each until she was slowing down, down, down….
When she finally opened her eyes with a gasp, she found herself back in the real world, the ancient writing still glowing faintly beneath her hand. She was exhausted but triumphant. The voices of the ancients had fallen silent, and a calm, serene silence enveloped her.
“Oh thank the Gods!” Yrene’s overjoyed voice was the first thing that she heard before Eva was on her, hugging her tightly.
Y/n was drained. She was panting heavily and felt like her body would collapse at any second when everyone gathered around her, congratulating her.
Eva put her hands on her hips and puffed out her chest as she looked at Dorian. “Sooo, I win the bet. Give me my 15 gold coins.”
The king rolled his eyes playfully but said, “You said she would be back in two hours. She came back in three.”
“Well, unlike Lucien who bet ten minutes, I was close enough.”
Lucien laughed as he said, “In my defence, I had no idea it would take this long.”
Elide put her arm under y/n’s shoulder as Dorian hoisted her up from the other side, “Ignore them, we were bored while your body was immersed in a trance so we made bets about how quickly you would return.”
Y/n didn’t feel like she had the energy to reply to anything so she gave a small smile as they slowly made their way out of the woods while Dorian kept bickering with Eva, others interfering at some point.
The moment y/n was back in her room, she collapsed on the bed and slept away who knows how many hours. When she awoke, Fenrys was beside her, an arm draped protectively over her waist.
His eyes were open as he seemingly admired her. Y/n couldn’t keep her joy and relief at seeing her mate come back in one piece contained as she jumped on to him, draping her arms around his shoulders and nuzzling her nose into his neck.
He hissed a little which caused her to immediately detach and pull the covers away to find his left arm bandaged.
“Fenrys! What- Are you well? I am so sorry-“
He put his right arms around her waist and pressed her body against his, smiling. “Just a scratch don’t worry. Isolde said it will heal in a week. I am better now that you are with me.”
She looked worriedly all over him before sighing and putting her head back on his chest.
“Did you manage to kill them?”
"We killed and killed. None of us could even stop to take a breath. There were so many of them it's like they keep inbreeding. At some point, I started becoming worried when I couldn't feel you through the bond and then I started full on panicking when the valgs wouldn't die because it meant that there was a chance something happened to you. But it wasn't like I could leave, I was stuck killing valg after valg. Then, however, they all suddenly fell to the ground mid-fight. All of them. That's when we all realized that you did, after all, manage to close the gates."
He kissed the top of her head as y/n listened to his beating heart, ensuring herself that he was real, alive and with her.
"Are there any injured?"
"Lysandra's leg got injured and a small amount of skin was ripped off of Lorcan's ribs but other than that, we are all well. Tired, exhausted even, but well."
She nodded her head. "What now?"
"Now? Now we get to finally live in peace. Together. Now we get all the time in the universe for each other."
She smiled. "I like that. I very much like that."
He slightly pushed her away so that they were looking at each others eyes as Fenrys said, "I believe you owe me a long overdue kiss?"
Y/n laughed and said, "Hmmm do I?"
His expression turned into longing as he whispered, eyes trained on her lips, "Ask me to kiss you."
She wasted no time in replying. "Kiss me, Fenrys."
He kissed her longingly, lovingly, hungrily, fiercely and softly. He kissed her until they couldn't breath anymore and once he left her lips, he moved down to her jaw, neck, slowly undressing her as he went lower to her breasts and then even lower. Heat was already pooling below her stomach as they basked in the feel of each other, knowing that they were finally in each others arms and that nothing could ever seperate them.
After a couple of hours, when they both entered the sitting room, they saw everyone gathered there, Lysandra's right foot was perched atop Aedions lap as Lorcan also lay on the opposite couch with his head on Elide's lap.
Everyone else was coupled up with their significant others, basking in the moment.
"Well, dearest y/n, welcome to the family." Aelin's proud voice echoed around the room as she looked at y/n with a bright smile, Rowan too smiled as he sat beside his queen and mate.
Y/n reciprocated their smile with her own. "Thank you. All of you. I am very grateful that you accepted me to your circle."
Lysandra waved her hand in the air, "Nonsense, you are one of us now, we are the ones who are grateful to have you with us."
"Are you going to take the blood oath now?" Chaol's question made all eyes turn to Aelin but the queen just smiled and looked at Manon who smiled back at y/n.
"Actually, me and Manon have already discussed this between ourselves since y/n is after all, an iron teeth witch and the mate of someone who is blood sworn to me. And we decided that..."
"That it is up to her to decide. She may or may not choose to do the blood oath. My only wish is that she comes and visits us in the witch kingdom."
Y/n smiled as Fenrys hugged her waist, "Of course I will. I will come visit all of you. There is so much to explore in this world, I can't wait to see it all with my own eyes."
Fenrys kissed the top of her head as he said, "We shall do it together, you will see all the beauty of our world, I swear it."
"Well, if you don't come to Adarlan first, I will be seriously wounded." Dorian put his hand on his chest as his head fell on top of Manon's, who was snuggled up in his arms.
"Oh, shush, you. Witch kingdom it is." Petrah hit him on the head as she passed by them with Lucien holding her hands.
"Oh, here we go again." Lysandra rolled her eyes as Aedion laughed.
Yrene, who was braiding Eva's hair, said, "Actually, she should go to the Southern continent first. I am sure Nesryn would love to meet her. Oh! I could show you where I lived for so long-"
"No! I think-"
"Gods, you are all such babies-"
"Shush Aelin!"
"Did you just tell my wife to shush?"
"Calm down, Rowan. Dorian has just been itching to get a beating from me for the past week."
"I would love to see you try-"
Y/n smiled and side hugged Fenrys as they watched their beloved family argue and bicker.
Suddenly, Fenrys whispered in her ear, "I promise to love and cherish you across the universe."
Oh, how she was ready for this new adventure to begin.

someone who loves you wouldn’t do this

kink/angst-tober masterlist
“You can run, we’ll find you every time.” A shiver ran down your spine. Not necessarily the words themselves, but how he said it - as if it were something normal. His mild tone and the small quirk of lips told you he thought running away was just a hobby of yours, just a way to tease them. Like you didn’t crave your freedom with every inch of your being, like the siren call of the outside world wasn’t your entire focus, day in and out.
There was nothing you could hide from him, any walls you built up were torn down without a second thought. You could only run because he let you. He desired the chase, the hunt, and eventually the capture. Once, you made it beyond the borders of Prythian, fleeing for the continent. When he discovered the village hiding you, he made you watch as they slaughtered every last adult who helped. From the sweet older female who gave you a job, to your landlord, and to the few friends you’d made over the months you settled there.
The early fall winds whipped brutally against your cheeks as you sprinted, pushing your Fae body to the absolute limits. A small pack tugged at your shoulders uncomfortably, but there wasn’t time to fix that, not now. You finally broke the city wards with relief flushing your entire being. Made it. You were free, free from Velaris. But, you knew you weren’t out of danger yet. As long as you stayed in the Night Court it would be much easier for them to find you. So, you found yourself on the continent.
The freedom lasted six months before she came.
“Rhys fetched you last time, it was my turn.” She said, leaning against your doorway. You wished you could winnow, you could do something to escape, but Cauldron boil you, you were trapped. The only way out would be to overpower her and there’s no chance you could do that. “But - he insisted on coming this time. “He’s making an example of your friends,” she said with a bitter tone.
“Please,” your voice was hoarse, “please don’t.” and you fell to your knees, prepared to beg for their lives.
“None of that,” she tutted. “It will only make it worse for them.”
A broken cry left your lips as she curled her fingers in.
Helpless against them and subject to their whims and moods. Maybe … maybe if you didn’t give them what they wanted, and stayed perfectly in place, they would tire of you and throw you out eventually.
“Not happening,” that voice, as cold and cool as night, swept its way into your mind. “I promised you eternity and you already know I keep my promises.” His presence left as soon as it came, a claw stroking down the inside of your mind.
At least you weren’t foolish enough to bargain away your life to them. Those first few years, filled with a haze of love and lust, of gratitude from the difficult life they tugged you out of, those were the best years of your life. Joy and hope for the future you began to build with them, before they slowly dismantled it. Brick by brick, they tore you back down to rubble and tried to build you up again in their image.
You could only take satisfaction in how they were failing miserably at that. They had underestimated your stubbornness and your desire for independence. How could someone go from love to loathing in such a short period of time? You knew one truth, someone who loves you wouldn’t do this. It's an obsession, a facsimile of love, no matter what they told you or how much they professed. Even if you did love them back, in some sick and twisted way, it was inconsequential.
When you got the chance to leave, it wouldn't be a planned or thought out occasion, you would have to act impulsively and take a chance if it ever came up.
Feyre swept into the room, her dress fluttering behind her. She was beautiful, in every sense of the word, and you tore your eyes away from her as she approached you. She tilted your chin up and pressed a kiss to your forehead with a soft smile on her face.
“How’s my favorite person?” She asked, sitting next to you and tugging you into her side. You urged your body to stay stiff, but inevitably you melted into her.
“I’m hurt,” Rhys gasped, pressing a hand against his chest. They were in a small argument right now, and whenever that happened you tended to get tugged into the middle as a buffer. You hated it.
“I didn’t ask you.” She snipped, and turned to you again. “How are you, love?”
You despised how your pulse fluttered when she called you that.
“Y/n’s having traitorous thoughts,” Rhys said with a cruel smirk. A half-hearted snarl left your lips, your eyes narrowed at the High Lord.
“Really?” Feyre ran one hand down your arm, before settling on your hip and giving a bruising squeeze, her nails digging in the soft skin. “You know leaving again would be a stupid decision.”
You didn’t reply. You’d made many ‘stupid’ decisions over the years, there’s no need to change now.
“You’re smarter than that.” She said when you didn’t answer her. You yelped as she pinched your hip. “Aren’t you?”
“No.”
“At least you’re honest,” she sighed and you felt her magic reaching out, pushing and testing all of the new wards surrounding the house.
“Not that I could get away with lying,” your fists clenched, tugging the fabric on your pants to keep yourself calm.
“I suppose you couldn’t, not anymore.”
Not anymore. Not since they dragged you back here.
Rhys tossed you in a chair, and threads of his magic wrapped around your arms - binding your entire body to the chair and rendering you immobile. At his mercy. You knew what was coming next, and tried to wiggle out of them anyways. “This is going to hurt, darling.”
“I thought you could make it painless,” you panted, your chest heaving, sobs lingering under your skin.
“Oh I could,” he traced your cheekbone, one hand holding your jaw when you turned your head away from him. He crouched so he was at eye-level with you. His eyes were black as the night sky - no hint of violet or playfulness in them. Cold. “But I want you to remember this, Darling. Consider it a lesson.”
“I - I will, I promise. Please.” You hated that you were reduced to begging already, but … this was a kind of pain beyond measure for you and knowing Rhys could choose exactly how much pain to inflict. It kicked in your sense of self preservation.
He hummed, rubbing his hand over his jaw as if he was contemplating it. “No. I quite like your screams.”
Tears leaked from your eyes, streaming down your face. As he began, your screams filled the entire room. Layer by layer, your mind was torn apart - not even a shred of a wall or barrier left behind. He left memories of your old life behind, but you didn’t think he was doing it from the kindness of his heart. In a sick way, he wanted you to remember how bad it was.
A small tap on your cheek brought you back to the present. You blinked heavily, finding Feyre looking at you - head tilted, blue-gray eyes searing into you. Teeth tugged into your bottom lip, and her eyes tracked them, pupils blowing. Betraying you, your body reacted to her slightest movement, the caress of her hand on her neck. Feyre noticed it, with no small amount of satisfaction, and grasped your hips, tugging you so you straddled her lap.
Soft. Her touches were so damned soft, running up and down your sides, thumbs ghosting over your breasts.
“You don’t need to pretend,” she murmured.
“Pretend what?” you snapped, ignoring the sharp look she pinned you with.
“That you don’t like this.”
“I don’t.” You protested, trying to wiggle away. Feyre’s hands tightened on your hips and Rhys snorted behind you.
“Liar,” he purred, his voice echoing through your mind.
Rhys sent an image;
You were sprawled on your bed, Feyre’s head between your legs, Rhys propped behind you, his hand on your chin - directing your attention to the mirror across from the bed, “Watch Feyre make you come, darling.” You squirmed, hips keening into Feyre, her tongue flicking against your clit, screaming as you -
“Stop,” you tried to shout at him, but the scene played out - you were helpless to stop it. The pleasure ran through your body, feeling it almost as if it was happening to you now.
Before you could shout again, you reeled back into the present - Feyre smirking at you, her hand caressing your side now. Rhys’s edged chuckle came from behind you, and tears pricked at the corners of your eyes.

Unrequited
Part 3
Pairing(s): Azriel x Reader, Lucien x Reader
Warning(s): ⚠️***SMUT***🔞 Minors, do not interact❗️
Word Count; 2770
Tumblr media
The moment your presence was felt in the townhouse, there was a knock at your bedroom door. You suppressed the groan that wanted to spill from your chest. You were decidedly not in any sort of mood to be talking to anyone.
You were still seething from being removed as a spy. Azriel was ridiculous. Having you essentially fired because he didn’t want to be near you. Because he was angry at you for having a relationship with Lucien.
The Autumn Court enemy.
He probably thought you a traitor now.
Selfish, emotionally illiterate Illyrian males.
The knock sounded again, and you held your breath. If you don’t answer, they’ll go away, right?
Wrong.
Another knock, this one more urgent. You paused.
“(Y/N)?”
Azriel.
Fuck.
You didn’t even bother to suppress your groan this time as you marched to the door and flung it open, eyes blazing with rage. The Shadowsinger seemed to recoil at the look in your eyes for a moment, before his cool mask slipped back into place. The picture of the calm-under-pressure spymaster he was so good at. He leaned against the doorframe, crossing his muscular arms over his broad chest.
“Rhys told me you’re upset.”
Traitorous, daemati bastard.
Azriel’s air of nonchalance made you fumble, no longer enraged, but incredulous. You blinked at him.
The audacity had your floored.
“You’re joking, right?” Your laugh was sarcastic and bitter. “No, I’m not upset, Azriel. Why would I be. I’m removed from my duty to this Court because-”
Azriel’s wings flared, and he snarled at you, “Because you failed at your duties to this Court!”
You nearly hit the ground as the harsh words speared at your heart like a dagger. He knew exactly where to aim. You staggered back from him, tears pooling in your eyes, balling your fists at your side.
“How-” You were cut off again.
“I sent you to gather information on a potential threat to this Court! And instead of collecting intel, you spread your legs for him.”
You glared at the Shadowsinger, hot angry tears threatening to fall. You wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. You gritted your teeth.
“Lucien,” you seethed, “is not an enemy to this Court. He is our emissary. He is my friend.”
Azriel chuckled darkly, “Do you let all of your friends fuck you, (Y/N)?”
He pushed off the doorframe and clicked the door closed behind him. He stalked towards you, eyeing your smaller frame as if you were prey. You stared him down, refusing to shrink under his gaze. The Illyrian Warrior towered over you, his wings flaring, and his shadows swirling. You understood why he was so feared.
But he didn’t scare you.
“Why do you care who I sleep with, Azriel?”
The spymaster was rapidly approaching you, but you refused to back down. The only movement you made was a nearly imperceptible twitch in your jaw as you bared your teeth down, afraid you were going to snap on him like a wild dog.
He was inches from your face now, your noses nearly touching.
He ignored your question, countering it with one of his own.
His voice was infuriatingly even as he said, “Tell me, (Y/N),” Your name was harsh on his lips. He spit it out as if it disgusted him. You waited for his question, too tense to even breathe.
“Do you let him cum inside you?” You sucked in a sharp inhale as Azriel continued, “Do you let him fill you up the way I do?”
You felt your eyes go wide as the realization shot through you like lightning.
He was jealous.
Part of you was afraid of the implication. Afraid to hope that maybe he felt the same way. But you know how how possessive Illyrian males could be. It’s entirely possible that this was all just some sort of unsaid competition between the two males.
“Does he make you feel as good as I do?” He asked, and the way he shifts his weight uncomfortably tell you that the question came out way more vulnerable than he intended.
Lucien was an excellent lover; attentive, giving, passionate. But he wasn’t Azriel. You didn’t love the emissary, at least, not in the way you loved Azriel. His question was like comparing apples to oranges.
“No,” you whispered, searching his beautiful hazel eyes as if they carried the answers to the universe, “No one makes me feel as good as you do.”
And with that his hand was on the back of your neck, pulling you in to meet his lips in a searing kiss. You kissed him back just as feverishly, needing to taste him.
His delicious scent of cedar and night sky invaded your senses, and your head spun. His tongue prodded at your lower lip, and you obliged, opening your mouth to let him in. The sensation of his silky smooth tongue against yours made your knees go weak.
You moaned softly into Azriel’s mouth, and he pulled you closer, your body flush against his. One of his hands tangled into your hair, and the other was on your hip.
You closed your lips around his tongue and sucked on it softly, eliciting a quiet groan from him. After releasing his tongue from your mouth, you pulled back slightly, catching his bottom lip between your teeth. You scraped your teeth along the sensitive flesh, before releasing your mouth from his completely.
The Illyrian rested his forehead against yours, “Gods…” He breathed out quietly, his voice barely audible.
You pressed a chaste kiss to his mouth- unable to resist his full, soft lips- and tugged on the hem of his shirt. Azriel got your hint and pulled his shirt off. You stepped back, just a bit, to let your eyes roam over his exposed skin.
Azriel was a gorgeous male. His muscular physique and his tall, proud stature alone would attract anyone. But his deep, dreamy hazel eyes, dark hair, and golden skin sent it over the edge. You allowed your eyes to wander the expanse of his tattooed chest, down the planes of his taut stomach, and the trail of hair leading beneath his trousers… You didn’t feel an ounce of shame at your ogling. You knew he would be smirking before you even turned your attention back to his face.
“Enjoying the view?” He teased. You nodded, a small smile playing in your lips.
“I always do. Gods, you’re gorgeous, Az,” You told him earnestly. His face flushed at the compliment. He knew he was an attractive male. But hearing it from your lips was music to his ears.
“You are stunning,” He replied, reaching out to help you out of your own shirt. And then it was his turn to ogle. Your whole body tinged pink as his eyes roamed down your neck, the swell of your breasts- still clothes with your lace bra- and down your belly- which was quickly pooling with heat.
Azriel reached out and unfastened the buckle of your pants and slid them onto the floor with ease. You stepped out of them quickly and kicked the off to the side. He hummed appreciatively as his eyes scanned down the rest of your exposed skin.
He removed his own pants, leaving you both standing face to face in your room, in nothing but your undergarments. His arousal was evident, and you were sure he could scent yours.
The Spymaster placed his hands on your hips and stepped forward, ushering you to the edge of your bed. You laid down on the bed, and propped yourself up on your forearms, and peered at him through your lashes.
Azriel climbed on top of you and straddled your hips, caging you in. Your eyes met his and you sucked in a breath at the dangerous glint in his eyes. He was ravenous, and you were the only meal he wanted.
You pulled him in and kissed him deeply. He returned it just as enthusiastically. You moaned softly against his lips and jutted your hips up into his. He groaned at the contact, and ground his hips right back down into yours, his hardness brushing against your still clothed sex.
Your breath hitched, and broke the kiss. You stared at him through your half-lidded eyes, “I want you, Az. I need you.”
“And you can have me, bunny,” He said, “But I want to make you cum first, okay?”
Gods, this male was going to be the end of you.
You nodded slowly, and he propped himself up on his knees and reached around your back, unhooking your bra and tossing it to the floor.
“Mm, that’s better,” He smirked. You arched your back slightly, the cool air making your nipples peak almost immediately.
Azriel trailed slow kisses down your neck, starting just below your ear, and trailing down to your collar bone. He nipped and sucked at the sensitive skin in between kisses, and guided your shoulders back onto the bed gently, laying you flat on your back. You moaned as he took your nipple into his mouth, and palmed your other breast with his large hand. He sucked and licked at the engorged bud, and you arched up into his touch. You laced your fingers through his hair and pulled him further into you.
“M-more, Az, please,” You breathed out. He hummed in amusement, before biting down in your nipple, not enough to really hurt, but just enough to send a sharp tingle down your spine.
He switched to give the other breast the same attention, this time teasing more. Circling your pert nipple with his tongue, but refusing to take it into his mouth. You couldn’t stop the frustrated whine that came from your throat. Azriel pulled away from your chest and smirked darkly.
“Is my little bunny impatient today?” He asked, the condescending tone made you glare at him, but you nodded anyway, desperate to feel him.
“Yes, daddy,” You said, knowing how the word would go straight to his swollen cock. You had only been lovers friends with benefits for six months, but you knew all of each other’s ticks. Like you’d had an arrangement for years.
He groaned and palmed himself through his boxers, before tearing your panties off of you. At the tipping sound of the fabric, you gasped softly.
“Azriel!” You chided him, “Those were my favorite!”
He gritted out, “I’ll buy you more,” and something about the sheer need in his voice- the need for you- licked flames of desire down to your core.
And with that, his thumb pressed against your clit, making you yelp at the sudden contact. He drew small circles around the sensitive button.
You arched your back, needing more contact. The Shadowsinger smirked, before delving two fingers inside of you. Your eyes rolled back and you swiveled your hips, forcing his fingers even deeper.
“Greedy little bunny,” He chastised, but gave you the relief you wanted, and began pumping his fingers in and out.
“Ah, yes!” You moaned out, “So greedy for you, Az!”
He chuckled darkly, loving the reactions you were giving him. He loved that his touch set you on fire.
Azriel dipped his head and kissed your clit softly. You watched him with half-lidded eyes, before he flattened his tongue and licked it, sending shockwaves of pleasure through your body. His finger never let up on the pace they kept inside you.
His fingers curled at just the right angle and found that spot inside of you that made your brain short circuit. You lifted your hips off the bed and gripped the Shadowsinger’s hair, tugging on it in the throws of your pleasure.
“I’m going to cum!” You told him, snapping your eyes shut, feeling your release sprinting at youX
He lifted his head briefly, “Cum for me, bunny,” he said, then his mouth was back on you, licking short strokes on your clit.
His command sent you over the edge, and you were cumming for him- panting and moaning his name.
Azriel circled your clit slowly, working your through the waves of your orgasm.
You released your grip on his hair and your arms fell to your sides. Your chest heaved from the relief. You finally opened your eyes when you heard and absolutely obscene sucking sound in front of you.
You found Azriel with his two fingers -the ones that were inside you- in his mouth, sucking your release off of his fingers. Your jaw went slack at the sight.
He pulled his fingers from his mouth, smirking.
“Mm, you taste so good, bunny.” His smirk widened, and you felt the heat pooling between your legs all over again.
“Fuck me.” Your breath was shaky and soft around the words, but it was a command and you both knew it.
Azriel was on his feet in front of the bed, and before you could protest, his hands were on you hips, dragging you to the edge of the bed.
He took his boxers off and your eyes greedily took in the sight of his impressive size. Your mouth practically watered at in.
Azriel stood between your thighs, and hoisted your legs up over his shoulders. In one long thrust of his hips, he was buried inside you, eliciting moans from each of you.
He was so big, and filled you up so perfectly that you felt dizzy at the sensation.
“You feel so good, angel,” He groaned out, pumping in and out of your slowly, allowing you too get used to the feeling of him stretching you.
You balled up your fists in the sheets and moaned his name. He loved seeing you splayed out for him like that. So open, so vulnerable. He loved watching your face contort in pleasure with each thrust.
He picked up his pace, thrusting into you fast and hard. His beautiful hazel eyes didn’t leave yours, pure animalistic lust on full display.
In the course of your arrangement with Azriel, you’d had sex with the Shadowsinger many times. But this- you’d never seen this before. The want in his eyes. The passion in the way he claimed you.
It made you see stars.
He gripped your hips and dragged you impossibly closer, needing to be deeper inside you. Your whole lower half was now completely off the bed, being held up by Azriel.
He slammed into you, and you felt yourself coming completely undone, your toes curling almost painfully as your whole body tensed.
You could tell he was getting close too, his thrusts growing frantic and sloppy.
“Please!” You begged, “Please, don’t stop! M’gonna cum for you!”
You could hear a string of curse words spill from his lips as he kept his pace, desperate to provide you both with your release.
“That’s right, cum on my cock,” He gritted out.
Your release barreled through you with such force that you couldn’t stop yourself from crying out, tears springing to your eyes.
Seeing you come apart from him, sent Azriel’s release through him, and he came deep inside you, your name falling from his lips.
Azriel released your legs from his shoulders, guiding them gently to the floor, where the hung lazily, your muscles like jelly.
He laid down next to you on the bed, his wings flaring out as he pulled your into his arms.
“Well, fuck.” He breathed out after you settled in bed, making you laugh.
“Yeah,” you giggled, “Fuck.”
“That was-” He started.
“-amazing.” You concluded for him.
“Yeah.” He agreed, pressing a kiss to your forehead. You sighed contentedly, and closed your eyes, ready for a nap after your afternoon activities.
Azriel’s muscles tensed, bringing you away from the sweet sleep you were searching for.
“About what I said earlier…” He began, clearly regretting his harsh words. You rolled your eyes, too tired to talk.
“What you said earlier was work related. We keep sex and work separate, remember?”
His body relaxed slightly, but he sighed anyway, the disappointment evident in his tone, “Right. Okay. We’ll talk about it later.”
Truthfully, you didn’t want to talk about it at all. You wanted to forget the interaction completely, knowing that if you dwelled on it and picked it apart, it would destroy you. But you humored him anyway with a nod.
You settled comfortably into his arms again, nuzzling against his strong chest. He held you tightly, and closed his eyes, humming a tune quietly.
The soothing noise, and the vibrating in this chest, had you drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
Until the relaxing haze was shattered by a sharp knock on the door.

𓆩⟡𓆪 Warnings: Explicit language, worldbuilding, talks of politics and social economic issues, slight depictions of anxiety, Minho and reader both are very cranky and overall don't have great outlooks on life, depictions of blood and core, violent action scenes, really creepy creatures idk, mentions of a deceased parent and mild references to childhood trauma (more like a suggestion that reader had a rough childhood) and Minho ruminates on some family obligations
𓆩⟡𓆪 A/N: This chapter took so much longer to write than I thought that it was going to but it is finally here. I have been super nervous about it and I kept editing it over and over again because the later half with the action/magic sequences were really giving me trouble. I don't usually struggle this much, but writing has been super hard which is also why I somehow managed to write something under 10k for the first time in what feels like a year? Also, the creatures mentioned here are inspired by displacer beasts in D&D in look/aesthetic only. I hope you enjoy my little fantasy world that I have been obsessing over - I am really excited to be writing this and cannot wait to delve into the plot fully. I have some really fun and crazy things planned!

If there's one thing I am sure of, I am sure that you have always belonged with me. -AKIF KICHLOO
It’s going to be a bad day. To be fair, it usually is. This time, though, Minho wakes with premonition sweat on the back of his neck and a spark of magic at his fingers, brought to life by whatever nightmare plagued him just moments before.
His worst days always start like this: a nightmare that feels more than just a dream but he cannot remember, sitting right on the edge of his vision, watching from the shadows. Sweat slips down his back, the touch of a reaper’s finger. Magic crackles at his fingertips, ready to protect himself.
The dreams themselves don’t happen that often, but they happen enough that Minho’s looked into them. He’s asked the royal family Lorist about dreams numerous times. Seungmin is tricky, though, his words and explanations twisting and never really landing in anything that feels meaningful. Still, Minho remembers the way that Seungmin’s tricky chatter quieted when he told him about the dreams, the way the Lorist’s mirth faded, replaced with something darker before returning to his usual, smirking self.
Peeling the sheets off of sweat-slick skin, Minho sits up. The world tilts, spinning unbalanced on its axis as he recovers from the dream. He leans forward, elbows pressed into the tops of his knees, and hangs his head down, taking in a deep breath. He remembers that the Lorist told him a calm, quiet mind was the best tool for remembering what is just beyond one’s reach.
Minho tries and fails. His mind hasn’t been quiet in years and he doesn’t suppose it ever will be.
Rain paints the glass of the floor-to-ceiling windows in front of his bed. This high up in the building, the clouds darken the windows with a frosty glaze and the rain freezes, spider webbing once it hits the cool glass. The sun is hidden behind darker, thicker clouds somewhere in the east. He thinks he won’t see it today.
Not that he minds the rain, usually. Stratos is a city of rain, the epicenter of unusual weather and lightning storms charged with the earth's natural magic. Minho can feel it humming in the air beyond the window as he walks barefoot and unsteady to the bathroom, eager to throw cold water on his face.
Cool water spills from the wall in the bathroom. The wall is hewn rock and living lichen, glowing mushroom caps, and other fauna and flora that glow in the darkness where they thrive. The water spilling from the wall is always bitter, fresh and invigorating, waking him up further as he splashes his face. He’s unsure of the system of portals and ley lines that makes his home full of pieces of his home here, in the apartment building he pays too much coin for, but it’s a nice touch, to feel the bite of the river from home.
Home.
The apartment building in the sky isn’t home. Not really. It’s a place that gives him space and the agency to be himself and do what he wants, but home is a faraway dimension that he hasn’t seen since he was five. Home is now one of the Burned Kingdoms, fallen away to ash and ruin.
Except for the Gwy, this river that streams through the worlds. Through his childhood bedroom. Through the room reserved for him at the Unseelie Court, through many worlds and other places. There are other names for it, he knows, this river that runs through the entire world and other worlds. But it’s always been the Gwy to him, cold and sweet-tasting.
It is one of the few memories of home he has, beyond the burning and the carnage. He tries not to think about that as he leaves, grabbing his tablet by the desk and flicking upward. His windows darken, muting the frosty rain in favor of moving pictures and screens.
One panel of glass displays the news. Another panel brings up messages and an agenda for the day. He purposely doesn’t look at the agenda, tapping the tablet to bring up his recent messages, which are most notably from Chan.
Chan: Jeongin and I will be escorting you tonight. No giving the kid a hard time, this is training.
Chan: And before you ask, yes this is low-risk enough for him to be on duty for. No I will not hear any complaints as the captain of your guard. Yes, I think that he will be nervous and awkward.
Chan: Do not let Changbin bully his way into joining us.
Chan: This is a gala not a party.
Changbin: Tell the illustrious Captain Bang to let me fucking go tonight. The kid won’t even get to enjoy the fact that it’s a party.
Changbin: I don’t care what Chan says, it’s a ball and it’s got drinks and shit, it’s basically a party. Even if it’s fancy.
Blowing out a sigh, Minho pinches the bridge of his nose. He doesn’t want to think about the gala tonight. Does not want to think about how once more his mother is going to push him into suitable marriage options, insisting that the world is going to end if they do not ally themselves with a suitable powerhouse in the city.
It’s both true and untrue. Minho knew from a young age he would always have to fill obligations as the heir to the Unseelie throne. He would never get to have a life outside of politics and trickery and diamond-studded niceties. Yet despite his loyalty to his court and the fastness at which he obeys, there is something rearing inside of him that screams there is more there is more there is more.
Minho doesn’t know where this comes from, this little sliver of him. He’s been an obedient and resolute child since birth - painfully so, according to most of the courtiers. And yet there is this tiny thread that unspools inside of him once in a while, filling him with doubt and chaos and thoughts that perhaps rebelling, that stepping away from his loyalties wouldn’t be the end of the world.
Perhaps there is something out there in the world calling to you, Seungmin had said one night over a glass of wine. His eyes had been twinkling and there was a little secret smirk on his face. Perhaps it is a part of you that exists elsewhere.
Minho has no fucking idea what the Lorist means. He rarely does. Seungmin’s existence in the court is purely out of traditions to the old ways. Hundreds of years ago, he would have been a seneschal and something like a seer. Now, with the watered-down blood of the fae, Seungmin is little more than a showy novelty hidden in the astronomy tower of the Unseelie Court.
Still, Minho likes him. Likes the way that they feel like friends, in a way. Doesn’t always mind that the Lorist talks in circles when giving advice, but is quite normal when he wants to play video games and frustrate the rest of them with his cheating.
Honey-scented coffee reaches Minho as he leaves the bedroom, still dressed in nothing but sweatpants hung low on his hips. Felix is in the kitchen, a hot mug of coffee floating toward Minho. His lips twitch as he reaches out for it, plucking the mug from the air. It resits a little before Felix’s magic lets it go.
“Good morning, finish that fast. We have your suit fitting to get to.” Felix’s deep voice is a stark contrast to his elegant features. He turns to look at Minho with a smile, his eyes the color of emeralds. “I put it on your calendar that you probably ignored.”
“I didn’t ignore the calendar.”
Felix hums, turning back around. His blonde hair is pushed back, mullet-style, and soft looking. He’s already dressed for the day in jeans and a cable knit sweater, his bag laying across the counter where his tablet lights up with notifications.
“So you were just afraid of a specific event on your calendar,” Felix supplies. Minho winces and sips the coffee. It is perfectly flavored with sweet cream and hints of honey, his favorite. “Either way, we need to get to Almas early. You know she doesn’t like to be kept waiting.”
Lifting a hand, Felix snaps his fingers once. There’s a spark as green as his eyes between them and a scone appears in front of Minho. He plucks it out of the air, eyeing the witch whose back is turned to him. Felix’s magic always leaves the scent of cinnamon when he uses it, singing Minho’s nose.
“Thanks,” he deadpans, tearing into the scone with his teeth. “Can you order a box of those chocolates that Jeongin likes from Sprinkled Sprite? He’s on duty tonight training with Chan. I’d like to give him a gift.”
“How kind of you.”
Minho heads back to his room to change. “It’s not from me,” he corrects, even though Felix is already scoffing as he turns and begins tapping on his tablet. “Please address it from the royal family, Felix.”
“Uh huh.”
In his room, Minho gets dressed, eyes on the screen as the news blares on, red font swiping across the screen for an emergency announcement. His brows pull together, eyes fixed on the images in front of him as he buttons his shirt from bottom to top, fingers nimble.
A reporter is on the scene, holographic caution tape flashing in the rain behind her. Minho thinks she’s a werewolf from the amber color of her eyes and claw-tipped fingers, but he looks away from her to focus on the flurry of activity behind her where nephilim police keep people on the other side talking to one another as rain slicks off their police-issued coats.
“Another grisly murder in the third floor of this apartment building,” the reporter says, speaking loud enough that the mic can pick up her voice over the tap tap tap of the deluge. “Located in downtown in the Lethe sector, it’s the second murder in recent weeks, coming days after a brutal crime scene just three blocks down. Is it a coincidence? Is it the start of a serial killer? SPD says it's too early to tell.”
The TV turns off and Minho looks at where Felix is standing in the doorway, green eyes fixed on the now empty windows. He flicks his gaze to Minho and offers him a tight-lipped smile. “Perhaps best not to start the morning with such dreadful news.”
“I’m going to have to hear about it anyway. The daemons are pushing for an audience. They say the reported murder wasn’t the first and that this has been going on for weeks.”
“Well, then the queen will take an audience with them if she feels it’s necessary.” Minho eyes Felix, but there’s no emotion on the witch’s face. “Ready to go?”
Minho flexes his fingers and rolls his shoulders. “Yes.”
-
You’re going to have a bad day. You knew it when you woke up on the edge of a dream that left you sweat-slick and short of breath. The dream hovered right on the edge of your mind, slipping through your grasp like grains of sand as you tried to dig and pull the memories back.
It’s always like this. Waking up from something you can’t remember, carrying around the dregs of a nightmare with you all day. You always feel hollow after, like something terrible has happened but you can’t recall what. Can’t place the feeling of the shadow that slinks from your dreamscape into your waking hours, watching and waiting until you fall asleep again.
The bad day comes for you like you knew it would. You’re going to be late to work. Again. It’s a condition that the public transportation system has made incurable. Buses are always behind, the subway is only reliable from midtown to uptown, and the only carpooling services here are run by the pixies who are too easily distracted by lights to get you where you’re going on time. Especially in the Lethe sector.
Jisung will just have to cover for you like he always does. He’s good at that, turning on the vila charm and glittering smile. It’s useful, having him to count on. You feel a little bad about it, but you make up for your lack of timeliness in other ways like making sure he doesn’t get the shit beat out of him when he takes on dangerous clients, his knife in the dark.
Still, as the rain pours down on your coat and the street's drain systems fail, causing water to surge around your ankle along with the garbage clogging the drains in the first place, you wonder if he’ll ever get tired of covering for you.
A cat yowls and runs down an alleyway as you walk by, startling you. Pulling your jacket closer, you keep your eyes lingering in the shadows of each alley you pass. Your dagger is strapped to your calf under your pants, but you’re still wary walking down the streets in the pouring rain, especially now.
Murders happen in the Lethe sector all the time. You’re no stranger to that. You’re even responsible for a few of them. But the types of murders being whispered about in the circles that you pass and being murmured in the closed doors of the clubs is that something isn’t right. There is something moving through downtown, tearing creatures apart.
In a way, you’re unconcerned. As long as you and yours are safe and protected, it isn’t your business what is prowling through Lethe. As long as Hyunjin and Jisung are alive and healthy, you don’t particularly care to find out what’s murdering its way through apartment complexes.
Below the drowning surface of the streets is worse than above. Water runs down the steps of the subway like a waterfall, splashing out onto the floor before it spreads and eventually spills onto the tracks. There are wet floor signs everywhere as the subway androids drive around with mops, doing nothing but certainly trying to squeegee the water into drains.
You jump the pay meter, ignoring the way it blares red when you do so. The little androids are so worried about the deluge that they don’t turn at the sound of a payment being skipped, making you grin. Serves the transportation system right for charging you at all for something public.
The train car is full of soaked wet people huddling in seats. At least the air conditioning doesn’t work so you don’t have the sting of cold air clinging to your skin as you tuck yourself in an empty seat, trying to make yourself as small as possible.
At the end of the car is a group of solitary fae, heads tilted together and giggling over their phones. You watch them from the corner of your eye. They’re dressed mostly in black with merchandise from a vampire band you vaguely recognize.
Dropping your eyes to the ground, you stare at the scuffed shoes on your feet. You wonder what it’s like to go out to a concert with friends dressed in band tees and high on pre-concert adrenaline. When you go out with your friends, it’s to work. To watch Jisung bat his eyelashes and trade secrets and kisses for the elite who come from uptown to slum it without watchful eyes. To slip a knife between the ribs of someone who got a little too close, who was a little too rough. To get battered by Hyunjin as he tries to hone you into a warrior he so desperately tells you that you need to be.
With a heavy sigh, you lean back and close your eyes, pressing your head against the window. The rocking of the subway car on the tracks is gentle, soothing almost. As you sink into the exhaustion that pulls at your skin and bones with greedy hands, you slip away somewhere between wakefulness and sleep, a sort of in-between.
Here, in between, is where you feel the same thing you always do: a void. A missing piece. Something not right inside of you, like a lock with no key. For a long time, you thought that perhaps you were just built wrong. It was a good enough guess because you’re certainly not the kind of faerie that your mother’s court is proud of.
This feels deeper, though. Like there is something out there waiting for you, calling to you. Your father wasn’t helpful when you told him about this feeling of something waiting for you beyond, chalking it up with a tight smile and a mutter of the word destiny.
You don’t believe in destiny, though. There is nothing meant for anyone. People are born, things happen to them, then they die. Unless they’re immortal, which is pretty common in Stratos.
An announcement chimes above your head announcing a stop and you look up to see the group of solitary fae clambering to get off the car. As they pass, one of them turns to look at you. Their eyes are large and round, like a horse. One is crystal blue while the other is wholly black, no iris, no whites. You startle, recognizing the dark eye of a seer as the faerie stares at you with uncanny sharpness.
Something tingles at the back of your neck. The faerie doesn’t move and outside of the train car, their friends start to call their name, but the faerie is motionless, cocking their head and pinning you with that stare. Ice forms in your veins as their friends all turn to you, mouths going tight like they sense what's about to happen.
“Save Jeongin,” the faerie says, voice paper thin. They nod as if confirming what they’re telling you. “Save Jeongin, find the missing half.”
The words hit you with an invisible force. You squirm in your seat, watching as the faerie blinks, a little dazed. They turn on their heel and rush off the train just as the doors to the car shut and the train dings as it shoots forward again, leaving you staring at the shut doors.
Goosebumps break out over your arms. Something within you stirs, like a predestined feeling of knowing. Perhaps it's because the seer just told you something that is most likely valuable and a little haunting, but perhaps it's your instinct. Your father always said you had a preternatural instinct, a gut feeling about things that were beyond the normal predictiveness of the fae.
Swallowing hard, you lean back in your seat and fight a shiver. Jeongin. You have no idea who or what that is. The name means nothing to you, and you know a lot of names. You’re in the business of knowing names. You memorize the sound and shape of it, running over the faerie's instructions over and over until it's committed to memory to ask Jisung about it later.
Save Jeongin, find the missing half.
Anxiety creeps up your spine, walking its cool fingers up to the nap of your neck where it settles like a collar. You feel it squeeze as you replay the words over and over in your head. You have no idea what the ‘missing half’ is but it doesn’t feel good.
Cool air meets you when you step off the train and into the much drier air of the subway uptown. There are transportation workers here, dressed in all black with red sashes and polite smiles. Though the smell of rain rushes down the stairwell, there’s no deluge of water, no cloying scent of garbage.
Topside, the world is still covered by misty rain. At least the sidewalks aren’t swimming, rain rushing down the gutters with a loud roar as the storm drain systems operate. Umbrellas move along the sidewalk like beetles, their little black shells crawling along the evening foot traffic.
To your right, cars are lined up, occasionally beeping impatiently from people who are tired from their day working in the city and just want to go home. You wonder what it must be like, to wake up at the same time every morning and sit in a car for an hour to go to some flashy building uptown. Maybe you’d have a desk in a nice glass office and get to look out over the rest of the world, watching the people below you move like ants.
Or perhaps you’d be one of those workers who only worked until you found a wealthy partner to support you, becoming the trophy they could tout around at parties and drape in jewels. Then, your partner would slip down to downtown in the middle of the night and visit the seedy bars and clubs in the underbelly, where they would ultimately whore their way through the riff raff.
You grit your teeth. It always comes back to this, your dreams coming full circle to your reality. You’re not good at dreaming. Perhaps as a child, tucked against the small window at your father’s cafe you were a dreamer. Thought about what you might do with your life, what potential you might have.
That was snuffed out. No need to think about it, no need to lament over it.
The Glass Thorn Hotel stretches upward into the sky, iridescent and glowing from all of the hidden lights fixed to the building. It stands out among the rest of the city, a shining beacon of light among dark office windows. Crowds of people with their umbrellas press together behind red rope, watching the slow drag of cars come along to drop off the city's elite: government officials, royals, music idols, movie stars, business owners.
A car hits a puddle as you walk around the side of the building, splashing you from ankle to hip. You let out a frustrated yell. You were already wet from the knee down, but how you feel clammy near your ass as you hurry to the rear of the building, flashing your phone to show your ID and work badge at the door.
The Unseelie faerie at the door scrutinizes your ID, white eyes flickering from the glowing screen to your face. You grit your teeth and stare back at him, daring him to say something. His lips twitch in a frown before he hands you the phone back and opens the door further.
“Do dry off,” he murmurs, voice like velvet. “You’re dripping all over the place like a wild animal.”
“Noted,” you grit back, stepping inside.
The service hall is tight and bustling with activity. There’s an intention detector just ahead of you, a line of creatures going through and waiting for the thrumming energy field to buzz green. The detector is made up of two glass panes on either side of a carpet, flowing with magical energy as two armed vampires stand on either side.
Shoving your phone in your pocket, you ask for a towel to dry off, shivering in the cool of the hallway.
A scoff comes from behind you. You turn your head to the side a fraction, glancing at the security guard who shakes his head and mumbles something under his breath. Your hearing isn’t as sharp as a full-blooded fae, but you hear him well enough to know he calls you a half-breed.
You stiffen and turn forward, determined not to let it get to you. It isn’t the worst thing you’ve been called and it won’t be the last time you earn the name either. Your lack of magic has earned you snide glances your entire life. They have no idea that there is a river of magic running deep in you. It’s just inaccessible. Useless.
Passing through the intention detector is easy, though uncomfortable. The magic clings to your skin like tiny little claws latching in, sticking to you and digging in to find your intention, to see if you mean harm. You certainly don’t mean harm to anyone here.
Save Jeongin, find the missing half.
You hope that if someone in the building tonight is looking to harm this Jeongin that they get disintegrated by the detectors long before you have to do anything.
After signing in, you get directed to wardrobe where you pull on black dress shirt and quickly tuck it into your black pants before rushing toward the swinging kitchen doors.
Noise explodes when you enter the kitchens. People hollering, the sound of oil crackling accompanied by the slamming of metal knives and pans against burners, glass shattering followed by screaming as someone drops a dining plate.
You spot Jisung lifting a serving platter of champagne flutes, his ochre eyes on the pixie being scolded as he makes a face you can only read as yikes while rushing over to him. He doesn’t see you coming at first, standing and watching the chaos, golden glow around him as his mind wanders.
“You’re glowing,” you mumble to him as you pick up a serving tray of champagne. He snaps his head in your direction, the faint glimmer around his body vanishing but his million-watt smile making up for it. “Why are you so giddy?”
“Perhaps the pixie who dropped her serving plate called me a cunt earlier,” he said, sniffing indifferently as you both head toward the servants hall to slip through the dark and enter the banquet hall of the hotel. “Perhaps I charmed a spriggan to tie her shoe laces.”
“Deserved it, then.”
“Perhaps so.”
Darkness envelops the two of you as you move behind a murky, darkened veil. The magical veil is for cosmetic purposes only, shielding the entire venue from the unsightly serving staff as the gala on the other side of the dark wall buzzes with activity.
“You were late again, by the way. Shira asked where you were.”
“I’m sure you lied and said I was here.”
“I did,” he confirms, sighing as the two of you step around rushing servers.
Jisung gives you a dark look. He looks exquisite tonight, his almond eyes lined with brown kohl, enhancing their alluring pull. There’s a sweep of shimmer on his cheekbones and his golden hair is styled back and laced with lines of glitter. His features are soft and round - innocent, which is what he likes people to think. You know he’s anything but.
“You look beautiful,” you offer as he gestures for you to lead the way through the darkened veil. “Stay away from the Unseelie.”
He nods, eyes serious. “I know.”
Giving Jisung a single encouraging nod,  you step through the veil. It feels like stepping through static, your ears popping on the other side. The gala is loud, the sound of all the voices and the music bustle washing over you as you slip into your role as a server for the night.
When Jisung told you that the events company he sometimes works for needed extra bodies to serve at an event uptown, you’d immediately said yes. You needed the extra cash and beyond the fact that the opulence reminds you how you are worlds awat from the elite members of Stratos, they’re not the worst jobs.
But you’d almost bailed when you realized that the event was hosted by the Unseelie Court. Hyunjin was going to have a meltdown when he realized where you were too. But a single look at your bank account had you swallowing down years of bad memories and putting on a smile as you extended your tray of champagne flutes.
Attending patrons tended to ignore you anyways. No one's eyes drifted to your tipped ears that were far too short to be entirely fae. No one glanced twice at your face, a mess of fae features with something else. Something unnamed.
A black and blue butterfly passes you, a glowing trail of blue following its path. Your eyes follow it as it floats upward toward effervescent lighting. The ballroom has been transformed into a glowing cave of darkness and magic. Glowing flowers and vines drape on the walls and across the ceiling, floating lights of pink and blue drifting in the air offering gentle lighting.
Beneath your feet, the floor is soft moss, dotted with mushrooms and other illuminated flora. The air smells sweet, sticky and humid against your skin. You imagine yourself on the inside of a volcano long burned out, the inside becoming home to all of the things that thrive in the dark, that make their own light.
It’s beautiful, and the creatures inside of it are all the more beautiful still. A moon wraith drifts by, her hair long and silvery. She’s watery at the edges and opaque enough that you can see right through her in some parts. She’s in silk that looks spun out of light, eyes wholly black with glittering stars.
A dizzying number of creatures drift by you. You see glittering gossamer wings, soft-furred brownies, sharp-fanged vampires, a grinning werewolf, groups of nymphs giggling behind scaled hands. A popular musician passes you, his siren song making you turn your head as he drifts by. He’s not even speaking but you hear the soft purr of his music, the longing notes as he continues into the room, turning heads as he goes.
Cameras flash as a group of politicians pose together. You recognize the princes of the Solar court posing for a photo. She’s otherworldly, her moss eyes vulpine and sharp, her doll-like face illuminated in the lowlight. Her dress looks like it’s made of light, threads of glowing sun wrapping around her light body and casting her in a gold gleam.
Council members fill up the room. As you navigate, you recognize the leading members of the species of Stratos in the room. Not all twelve are present, but not all twelve members of the city’s ruling body are equal as they should be. Even among the top there is a social hierarchy that dictates invitations.
A routine forms for your night. Circumnavigate the room while holding a tray, keep your eyes down, go back to the kitchen to receive another when you’ve emptied what you’re carrying. It’s easy money though your arm is a little sore and your shoes feel too tight on your feet. Ignoring it, you enter the main gala again, eyes scanning the room for Jisung.
Your eyes alight on the vila as he bows his head and accepts thanks for something that a werewolf is telling him. As though he senses your eyes, Jisung looks across the room in your direction until he finds you. He offers a small smile and nod, letting you know that he’s okay. He’s well-enough equipped to take care of himself, but you have been his protector since you were children in school, standing up to the bullies who used to knock him down and cut his hair.
A tingling sensation slides down the back of your neck. You pause and stiffen, staring at a lichen covered wall where two spriggans swing from vines, but you’re not watching them. Your eyes unfocus as you feel the prickling awareness bloom, static spreading down your spine.
It’s a peculiar feeling that’s similar to when your instincts kick in and scream at you to do something specific. Lifting your gaze, you sweep the room a few times, looking for a noticeable threat or whatever is giving you this niggling feeling. There’s nothing that immediately looks out of place to you: flashing lights, low pulsing music, the din of voices and writhing bodies as they move around one another.
There’s a larger crowd than there was before. Late comers are filling in before the seat portion of the gala starts and they have dinner while the faerie courts lament about the long-lasting history between them as they approach the anniversary of the peace between the four of them. You hope you get to sit in the server hall and rest your feet for that portion. Listening to the leaders of the city is the last thing you feel like doing.
A server hisses at you to move and snaps you from your trance. You nod and roll your shoulders, joining the rotation again. The platter feels heavier in your hand and your heart beats a little faster. Instead of keeping your eyes low and to the ground as you carry around what looks like truffled kelpie eyes, you keep watch on your surroundings. The tingling sensation that you’re missing something immediate is there, pressing down on your spine.
Applause starts to thrum through the crowd of attendees as you pass off the last of the eyeball truffles on your serving platter. You glance toward the front of the room where there are two holographic screens displayed as the queen of the Unseelie Court takes center stage on a glass platform.
Queen Jieun is a spectacle to look at. Her hair is raven black, shining blue under the lights of the floating orbs and glowing flora. Her dress is a marvel of sweeping skirts of black and charcoal gray, tiny beaded details depicting vines twisting up the dress. The bodice is a cage of black branches and thorns, frosted with frozen dew and forming a violent collar around her delicate throat.
The queen of the Unseelie Court is everything she could be, delicate and sharp, dangerous but coy, beautiful but terrifying. You swallow past the sour taste in your mouth at seeing her, repressing a shiver as you bow your head down and make a beeline for the opaque veil as she gives her opening address, voice like dark velvet.
Jisung grabs you and yanks you to a standstill. You bare your teeth at him in frustration but he gives you a wide-eyed, pleading look. A quick glance around the room lets you know that none of the other servers are moving, all standing rigid around the room with their heads cast down and arms laced behind their back because it’s impolite to not show reverence while the queen is speaking.
Gritting your teeth, you stand next to him and lace your hands behind your back. Fixing your eyes on the floor, you take deep breaths in through your nose and let it out slowly through your mouth. The queen’s voice is like nails on your skin, rattling you down to your core the more you hear the raspy laugh and each accented word.
Queen Jieun doesn’t know your face or you wouldn’t have come tonight, knowing that the Unseelie Court would be here. But she does know your name - especially your mother’s - and being in the same room as her feels oppressive. Like a hand is pressing down on our throat, determined to crush your airway.
A brush of fingers against yours draws your attention. Jisung isn’t looking at you, but his fingers are twining with yours, giving you a squeeze. Your heart constricts and your throat tightens, nearly overcome by a sweeping of fondness for him. You squeeze his hand back and turn forward, steeled and strengthened to listen to a woman who unknowingly shapes your entire existence.
There’s a round of applause as she asks the queen of the Solar Court to join her. They use fanciful words to depict how long ago, the four courts of the fae were at odds with one another. It was far before Stratos ever existed and the fae lived in their own world before it joined the Burned Kingdoms. Worlds lost to some magical blight, something all-consuming.
Now, the four courts of the fae live in harmony. Tense harmony filled with political jockeying, vying for the council seat, and an ever-changing game of chess where they seek to out power one another. The Unseelie Court is better at it than most, but they aren’t where the power lies here this evening.
The sovereign of the Seelie Court sits at the table of honor, their jade eyes honed in on the two monarchs speaking at the front of the stage. The sovereign is beautiful, with high cheekbones that look sharp enough to cut glass and red stained lips the color of crushed berries. Their copper long hair is intricately braided and there’s a circlet resting just above a proud brow. It’s hard to look at them for any amount of time, the power and glamor radiating from the faerie always makes you avert your eyes after a few seconds.
Sovereign Seren is the Unseelie queen’s opposite in almost every way. Where color seems to blanch where Queen Jieun goes, the world around the sovereign is brighter and warmer and you swear you see colors you never knew existed before. This is what the old blood of the original fae kingdom looks like. This is a faerie who has existed for thousands of years, and pins a cutting stare onto the two fae on the stage.
A static pulse ripping from somewhere in the building distracts you. You turn toward the kitchens where you felt it from, staring at the opaque veil between the gala and the serving staff. You can’t see through the veil at all, can’t hear any sounds but what is on this side of the magical barrier.
Your stomach sinks. The feeling of wrongness creeps up on you and you glance around to see if anyone else felt a shiver of strange magic. No one seems alarmed or looking in the direction you felt the wave emanate from. Jisung is staring at his feet, yawning.
Turning back to the magical wall, you stare at it as though you could will it to show you what's on the other side. This feeling of anxiety and fight or flight is different from earlier in the evening when you felt that cool tingle pressing on your neck. Now, your gut twists and you cannot shake the omen that has settled deep in your stomach, warning bells going off.
You turn to Jisung. “Something isn’t right,” you murmur to him. He looks up at you, eyes round and alarmed. He knows to trust you. “I think I felt something a moment ago and I have this horrible feeling-”
Terrible screams rip through the gala as servants spill through the magical wall. Immediately there are creatures shooting to their feet from tables and guards swarming the two fae royals on the stage. Jisung grabs your arm in alarm, looking as chaos breaks out along the far side of the room where servants are stumbling into tables and fleeing from the kitchens and halls in droves, several of them slick with blood.
Grabbing Jisung’s arm, you pull him behind you as the table in front of you gets shoved, the attendees rushing to get away from the unknown source of terror. You feel the threat like a pinprick, a knife of awareness as you move backward toward the gala entrance with Jisung pressed behind you. The two of you are careful to keep together, feet tangling with one another in the mess while your eyes are trained on the veil, waiting.
When you see the source of the mayhem, you freeze. The creature is a void, so dark that it bends the light as it slinks through the magical veil. As it passes, the wall of magic crackles, electricity popping and whining as it shatters and drops, revealing the servant hall. Jisung’s nails dig into your skin, drawing half moon circles of blood with his grip as the two of you stare at the massacre of bodies and limbs.
“What the fuck is that?” Jisung breathes, hand trembling.
You have no idea what the creature in question is. It’s sleek and shaped like a jungle cat, but its entire hide shines with leathery skin as it prowls into the room, shadows flickering strangely around it. Two long appendages grow from its back, lashing out like a whip and plunging into people. There are rows of serrated teeth at the end of each appendage, chittering like a saw as it pulls victims down.
It’s hard to watch but harder to look away as the creature holds a Solar Court guard down to the ground and turns him into something unrecognizable, an oozing husk of a body as the guard nearly melts with whatever the teeth do to him.
Jisung turns and vomits behind you. Your stomach is hardly in better condition when another creature slinks around the corner from the kitchen, the same buzz shivering over you with its presence. This one is closer and you realize that it’s just you and Jisung, frozen and staring as fae guards and a pack of werewolves press in on the first creature.
This one, though, seemsed fixed on you. It’s hard to make out and discernable facial features, but you immediately feel like prey. You squeeze Jisung’s arm. “Run,” you whisper.
Jisung doesn’t hesitate. He lets you go in favor of running and you’re on his heels, leaping over a broken chair as you go. The banquet hall doors are a mass of bodies and screaming creatures shoving and pulling. Only three sets of doors are available for the escape of the people inside as hundreds of people try to stampede through them.
As you approach the crowd, they start screaming and running toward you, herded toward the center of the gala as more of the cat-creatures prowl from the lobby into the event space, their whip-like limbs and teeth tearing into victims as they go.
Bodies slam into you. Jisung’s hand gets knocked from yours and you scream his name. He’s yanked from you in the sea of people and you shove your way through the panicking crowd in the direction you think he was pulled in.
Stumbling, you end up at the south end of the room, a body slamming into you and knocking you to the ground. Rolling to your front and pushing yourself up, you freeze, eye level with one of the creatures that is cornering a faerie dressed in the leathers of the Unseelie Guard. He’s got a sword out and he’s bleeding from his brow, standing in front of either a dead body or someone who is unconscious as he snarls.
He’s young you realize, vulpine face full of terror but eyes lit with fire. You scrambled to your feet, slipping on spilled blood. The creature prowls toward the faerie but he doesn’t move, determined to stand over the body laying on the floor instead of turning to run.
Around the room, there are several people trying to fight off the monsters. You see the Sovereign from the corner of your eye, her green magic flashing so bright you see stars. Behind you, a faerie skids to a halt and looks at the Unseelie guard.
“Jeongin!” he screams, voice cracking.
Jeongin. The name resonates with you immediately and the hair on the back of your neck stands on end. Save Jeongin, find the missing half.
Without considering the consequences, you stepward and teeter right into the pool of your magic, falling headfirst into the bottomless well of energy.
Your magic is unpredictable at best and you’re wildly untrained. Beyond a few parlor tricks, your energy sits inside of you untapped and waiting. It feels like an ever-flowing river, cycling and rushing through your entire body. Sometimes, you try to dip your hand in. But you can never grasp it, can never pull out a handful of it to do what you want.
That certainly insn’t the case now as your panic jumpstarts your magic. You’ve only done this twice before. Once was the first time you ever fell headfirst into your magic. You had just been trying to get a jar of cookies from the highest shelf, but you’d fallen from the counter and tried to soften the blow. You’d melted right through the floor and set off some sort of reaction, your magic eating away at the foundations of your home until there was nothing left.
The second time, you’d been ambushed with your mother leaving a very tense meeting with her family at their estate. You’d been afraid and reacting out of instinct to protect yourself, pulsing like an electromagnetic generator and sending a wave of energy outward.
It had leveled a building and left a scorch mark on the earth. You hadn’t even managed to save your mother.
Now, it doesn’t matter. The seer’s words echo through you and you lose yourself to the surging power, becoming a livewire. The thing senses you, turning on you and away from the faerie - Jeongin - to attack. It’s too late. Your palms are burning up with magic and you imagine a blade, something to cut away at the creature. You let your magic fly, a flash of something razor thin.
Black ichor sprays as it hits the monster. It splatters outward, making you flinch as it hits you hot and wet. Its two halves fall on the ground, leaking onto the floor. The air around it shimmers for a moment, vibrating before it settles and all that’s left is the dead thing.
Someone screams your name. Jisung comes running toward you, a loping creature following him. Jisung is covered in blood, blonde hair soaked red. Your power shakes as you reach for him, one hand outstretched the other shaping another blade of energy.
Jisung’s hand grabs yours and you pull him to your chest, holding him as you throw your magic again. You hear the way it cuts the air, an audible hum as it hits the creature and slices thickly through its hide. It hits the ground heavily, the air glimmering again like the fabric of this world is registering that something has happened.
Elsewhere, beasts are slowly being felled. The high priestess of the witch covens wields white fire around her, a whip of flame cracking as she advances on a creature. Lightning crackles up the sword of a nephilim solider, arching as he slices through the leg of another.
“What the fuck was that?” Jisung breathes, holding on to you for dear life. “Did you just-”
“Yes,” you pant.
“How?”
“I just panicked, honestly. I have no idea.”
Jisung hugs you tightly. “Thank you.” You give him a squeeze back and he peels away, looking over your shoulder. “There are three Unseelie fae staring at you.”
Save Jeongin, find the missing half.
Licking your lips, you turn to look at the group of fae behind you. The young one that you saved - Jeongin - stares at you with wide eyes and his mouth open. A little marveled. A little afraid. Behind him, the faerie that he was standing in front of is sitting up with the help of the one who had yelled Jeongin’s name, his eyes glued to you as well.
It’s the one Jeongin had been protecting that attracts your attention. When you look at him the sounds of death and chaos fade to a dull roar, blocked out by your tunnel vision as you stare at him. Suddenly, the world feels right, like everything makes perfect sense. Everything is aligned.
He’s devastating to look at. Amethyst hair hands down in his face, matted with the blood that drips down the side of his head. He has unfathomably dark eyes, feline-shaped and sharp. He’s made up of equally soft and sharp features, nose round and jaw honed. His mouth is fixed in a grimace, but you think his lips are plush. Gentle.
Your heart beats loud in your ears as you stare at him. That strange sense of instinct is screaming now, louder than before, pressing down on you like you’ve finally figured out what it wants from you. It tells you that it wanted you to look here, at this person. The man sitting on the floor, staring up at you with a mix of confusion and wariness.
Suddenly, you realize that in this moment there is the absence of something else. Most of your life you’ve spent wandering around as though you were looking for something else or like something was missing. Just a small piece of you that was impossible to find.
Now there’s a key sliding into a lock. Your mouth dries as you feel like something clicks. Like suddenly, now that the two of you are staring at one another, everything makes sense. Rationally, none of what has happened tonight makes sense. The creatures, the attack, the chaos and your sudden dip into your magic.
Yet… it feels right. Entirely, wholly right, for the first time in your life.
Horror creeps in slowly as your mind begins to put together the details too slowly. It seems that the faerie on the floor - someone important, by the looks of his guards - has already come to a conclusion you haven’t reached just yet. He’s shaking his head and pushing back a little bit, eyes never leaving you.
Such beautiful eyes, you think absently, under all of the whirring of your thoughts.
When you were little, you asked your dad what it felt like when he realized your mother was his mate. It had seemed like a good idea at the time but this face had clouded over in a way you’d never seen before, etched glass of pain and sadness. You’d regret asking immediately and thought that he wouldn’t answer until he finally did.
Like suddenly there was no longer a piece of me missing or looking for something, he’d said. Like everything made sense, even if it didn’t really. Just instinctual knowing that I was suddenly whole.
Jisung says your name and pulls on your arm but you’re anchored to where you stand. Unable to move and think beyond the word that is circling your thoughts over and over again. As soon as you even think of the word, you can’t get rid of it. Can’t shake the feeling that you’ve come to the right conclusion about whatever this feeling is.
Mate you think. Mate. Mate. Mate.
No word in the world seems more appropriate. It echoes inside of you - rattles the stars, even. You’re so sure that he’s your mate, not a sliver of doubt in your heart. Fear, perhaps. Despair, even. But nothing has felt surer to you than this moment, looking at him.
“Your highness,” Jeongin says, though it’s phrased like a question. He’s looking at the faerie on the floor and you put the rest of the pieces together. Unknowing, the young  guard continues. “She just saved our lives.”
Your highness. You look at the crest on his broach. The elm tree that is stitched in the armor of the guards. Horror unravels in you like a slow blooming flower, each petal bringing with it the new weight of trepidation as you stare at the prince of the Unseelie Court.
“Doesn’t matter,” the other guard growls and points a blade at you. “Until this is sorted out, everyone is an enemy.”
The prince snarls vicious sound, canines on display as he jumps to his feet, hand shooting out to grab his guard’s arm. “Do not,” he hisses. “Point your weapon at my mate.”

"Mr. Hill? Your two o'clock is here," Madeline called over the intercom, and the door swung open before he could even acknowledge her message.
As gorgeous as ever, Hill's client strode into his office in high heels. The red lipstick adorning her mouth accentuated the way it was pursed with frustration.
"I want my money back, Mr. Hill."
"I'm sure we can come to some sort of an arrangement." The detective's voice was low, pacifying...suggestive, even as he attempted to placate the woman whose case he couldn't solve. She'd come into his office a few weeks prior with a seemingly straightforward problem that turned out to be a puzzle without a solution. All the evidence had been eliminated, leaving only conjecture and instinct to explain what had happened.
That would never hold up in court. There wasn't even enough for an arrest, even if he'd been able to narrow down the suspects. He was baffled for once in his long, distinguished career, and now he had to own up to the fact that he couldn't even pay his client's money back, because he'd needed it for the office's rent.
He'd failed her in every possible way.
"I paid you a substantial amount, yet you've given me no more to go on than a few hints," his client said lifting an eyebrow. She tried to hide it, but her eyes roamed the length of his suit-clad body briefly before meeting his own. Her frustration was still there, but it was tempered by something else. Desire, blatant and growing in potency since the moment they'd met. "So, what exactly are you suggesting, Mr. Hill?"
An easy grin crossed his lips as he crossed his office. Pausing in front of her, he let his own eyes drop to her lips.
"Somehow, doll, I think you know what I mean, already," he murmured reaching up and grasping her chin. The pad of his thumb skimmed over her painted lower lip, just barely smearing some of the color onto his own skin.
He hoped he'd have that shade smudged in other places, as well, by the end of her appointment.
"With the amount you owe me, Mr. Hill, you'd better make it damn good," she demanded, but she sounded too breathy to be truly threatening.
"Oh, don't worry. I've never left a client dissatisfied before," Dixon promised, and true to his word, he soon had her splayed out atop his desk. With her legs spread wide and the hem of her dress rucked up to her hips, he relished the quiet moans pouring from her lips as he lost himself between her thighs.
Her fingers guided him, but he didn't really need it. He'd had plenty of practice using his tongue. Just as she bit her lip to stifle a keening whimper, the sound of the comm doused both their pleasures in ice water.
"Riker to Picard. We've reached Starbase Eighty-Four, sir. The station's commander would like to speak with you at your earliest convenience," the First Officer announced, and just like that, the Private Investigator was brushed aside for the Officer.
"Understood, Number One. Tell him I'll meet with him in a few moments," Captain Picard answered reluctantly, and when the line closed, he stood slowly between his lover's legs. "Same time tomorrow, Lieutenant?"
"Fourteen hundred hours, yes sir," she answered as she wiped her pleasure off of her Captain's lips with her handkerchief. He'd make it up to her tonight...and again tomorrow. Stealing one last kiss, he saved the program.

If it's okay could I request a Al-haitham angst where he and the reader were in the same course of study in akademiya where Al-haitham kept pointing out anything the reader is doing wrong and later Al-haitham suddenly starts to fall for the reader but the reader is basically mad at him for everything he has done to them and rejects him
TL,DR
Rejecting Al-haitham's confessions bc he was mean to us during their akademiya time
Gender neutral reader, obviously angst. I was going to have it where the reader has a crush on Alhaitham, but I've decided against it BC that's the usual route I do lol.
--
Haitham, you had high hopes in befriending him when you found that you worked well together. Most people you got paired with just left you with the project work, knowing you wouldn't risk failing a project because of their lack of work. Haitham was punctual, never late for any of your meet ups, and he helped you with your essays.
Well, his standard of helping. He ripped into every minor detail you wouldn't have even noticed, and you only took offence because he never really gave you advise as to how to correct it. You had to find it yourself, and when you couldn't, you'd have to endure another session of disrespect before finally getting assistance.
You didn't actively seek him out after that, knowing he'd find a spare second to mock you for poor essays, and on a good day he didn't show up. You didn't get why he was so rude and abrupt with his words when helping you, and you were sick and tired of seeing his annoying face as he scolded you with that blank look.
He had the audacity to sit down across from you, you simply reading a textbook, and you look up when you see he isn't saying anything. A hopeful glint in his eye, him clearing his throat before he opens his mouth. He realises you're pissed off at his presence, however, and he walks away.
--
After you graduated, you were surprised that Alhaitham had been asking around for you. He eventually found where you worked, and he refused to leave until you spoke to him. You walk out, seeing him standing there with that same hopeful look.
"I have made reservations at a-"
"Hold on." You stop him. "Are you courting me?"
"Yes."
"Then I decline. Please do not approach me unless there is some emergency only I can assist in." You state, turning to walk away.
"And what may that be?" He asks.
"There isn't one, Alhaitham. That's the point."

Will you watch season 2 of HotD or you've lost interest in the show? I wasn't thrilled with season 1, but I do like some characters and I'm curious to see if they'll do them any justice in the next season(s). I'm still trying to be optimistic (which is definitely against my nature 😁), although the latest leaks from Spain (which I desperately hope to be false) doesn't sound promising.
Idk it you read Fire & Blood, but that book is often overrated imho, almost all the characters there are painfully one-dimensional, shallow and bland, while the plot is full of illogical things (especially the Dance part) . So, as you can see, I'm not the biggest book fan, and I do believe that the show did some things better and gave a bit of depth and complexity to certain characters and fleshed them out. However, at the same time it seems to me that they didn't complete what they started, like, you see the potential of the characters and understand their motivations, but then out of the blue they do or say something totally nonsensical and OOC. Take Alicent at the end of episode 8. Rhaenyra says something nice to her and she suddenly forgives everything and forgets that's the same woman who wanted to "sharply question" Aemond after her son Luke maimed him over an insult (a fact, actually), the woman her husband always favoured at the expense of Alicent's own children and finally, the woman who is married to Daemon, the sociopath who hates Alicent and her children and who will kill anyone (and apparently with Rhaenyra and Viserys' blessing) without remorse if it benefits him and his side. I mean, the guy even had the gall to look annoyed during the prayer for Vaemond. Still, according to the show, Alicent somehow needs to "misunderstand" Viserys' last words to crown her own son, and not because it's probably the only way to keep her and her children alive and safe and because her son actually has the strongest claim to the throne according to Westerosi laws avd tradition. And don't get me started on the Velaryons who are collectively depicted as "Dae and Rhae fan club". Like, what is Corlys even thinking?! I won't ask about Baela and Rhaena because they obviously don't get to think and are just unconditionally supportive of Rhaenyra and the Strong boys. Rhaenys is contradictory and inconsistent. It's frustrating, really. Also, the fact that the narrative/the framing of the show heavily favours team black is also off-putting. Nevertheless, I'm still curious and just a bit hopeful that season 2 will balance these things a little. Maybe I'll just be terribly disappointed, but oh well. Sorry for the rant :D
Anyway, as a fan of your fic, I would like to know your opinion. Does the show deserve our optimism and what are your predictions regarding season 2?
S2 predictions? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why would you ask me this? This is a show where someone in a professional HBO writers room said, "So what if a dragon just bursts up from the underground?" And the showrunner was like "Fuck yeah!"
I don't think they even thought to do a camera pan of the carnage. It's like they wanted to make Rhaenys look badass but did a Koolaid Man scene instead.
Tell me that this isn't Rhaenys
Tumblr media
Predictions? This is not Leftovers where you could do a whole video essay on foreshadowing and subtext and hidden clues. This is a series where there's a horse running loose in a writer's room and nobody knows what it's going to write next.
This is the most bizarre thing I've ever seen.
My prediction for S2 is that during the time off at least one person realizes that they failed to make Aegon into Joff 2.0, that instead of having him be affably evil, he's onscreen affable and offscreen evil, and they'll try to double down on actually showing that he's evil and actually showing that he's worse than Daemon and Rhaenyra.
We've seen Daemon in brothels, grooming and marrying children, killing Rhea, killing innocent people and murdering lords at court, but we've only been told (by very minor characters) that Aegon is a baby-eating rape monster. It's all extremely "tacked-on."
I think Aegon's the biggest problem that they have to work on. Just getting at least this one character to make sense moving forward.
When Jahaerys is killed, I think they'll use that to really commit to making him the bad guy. Like he'll have to be killing a baby or raping someone or eating someone so that it's not Rhaenyra and Daemon killing a child but "Look at what this bad man was doing instead of protecting his son."
As far as predictions go, that's all I can see. If they only develop one character in S2, it needs to be him. Rhaenyra has Rockstar!Daemon, Rhaenys and Corlys on her side, so they'll have to upscale the green threat otherwise it's a bunch of grown people and veteran soldiers fighting two children who have no experience at anything because the oldest one is a 20-year-old frat boy and his brother is still a teenager. Aegon's going to have to really be villainous.
I feel like there's a reason all his nude scenes are with his mother, it's one of the few consistent things between them through the time skips and actor changes, and I feel like they're going to go fully 500% in that Commodus direction
Tumblr media
and have him just be creepy and rapey with her in a "bad incest," how-the-turntables, "be careful what you wish for" way. Alicent's defining trait seems to be "perpetual victim," so I feel like they'll go this way and frame it as if she's getting what she deserves for slapping him around. Ten extra points if they have Rhaenyra or Rhaenys there on hand to be like "Is this your king?"
I don't see them doing anything with Rhaena besides sending her away, and I actively don't want to see Baela going out there getting her dragon killed and her face burnt off in defense of Rhaenyra.
I honestly try to not think about s2 of this.
I was a hardcore asoiaf fan but I didn't like Feast or Dance. I read Dunk and Egg, but he didn't finish that either. And when F&B came out, I got the audiobook and I listened to it for a few hours, probably less than five, and I couldn't concentrate because I kept thinking "Did this bitch seriously package his story notes as a novel for sale??? This is an insult to storytelling."
And I deleted it.
It's the quality for one thing. It's the lack of diversity, it's the author not finishing anything, it's the fandom being 20% fantasy fans, 80% trump rally...
Like, in just 10 episodes HotD has managed to give a voice to pro-rape feminists. Didn't even know that was a thing until I saw it on Twitter.
I saw some of the leaked pics of Helaena at the funeral on my feed, didn't have to scroll far to see people just casually r-wording Helaena and acting like having six fingers is a killing offense since eugenics rhetoric is apparently thriving in this fandom.
And on top of all that, the story doesn't even make sense.
I don't want to be like "dramaturgically speaking" but narrative coherence is a thing. Just from bing chat (yes, I'm using bing 😣):
Narrative coherence is the degree to which a story makes sense. Coherent stories are internally consistent, with sufficient detail, strong characters, and free of significant surprises. The ability to assess coherence is learned and improves with experience. Individuals assess a story's adherence by comparing it with similar stories. The ultimate test of narrative sense is whether the characters act reliably. If figures show continuity throughout their thoughts, motives, and actions, acceptance increases. However, characters behaving uncharacteristically destroy acceptance.
This show has curb-stomped narrative coherence.
Like, take that scene where they killed Vaemond. The way they write it, Rhaenyra has come back after 6 years of never visiting her father to drag him off his deathbed so he can support her in taking Driftmark, the seat of house Velaryon, away from Velaryon people to give it to her son by Harwin Strong. Vaemond is killed for telling the truth.
With different lighting and music, that's peak tyranny. That's some Mad King Aerys shit. In full view of all the lords at court. Every single person in that courtroom is aware that Luke is a bastard and they've just witnessed a lord like themselves get beheaded over it. This isn't Daemon killing commoners. He's killing the lords and ladies of Westeros.
But there's no fallout. Nothing. All the lords of Westeros cease to matter. It's just another Tuesday to them.
Hell, they go even further and frame the scene like Viserys is Old Theoden fighting off the curse of Wormtongue. Otto, Alicent and her goblin children all but shrivel and wither from the sunlight that Rhaenyra brings as Vaemond is cut down by noble Daemon. In that scene, Dark Sister might as well be Andúril, Flame of Old Valyria, sword of justice.
There are shows that are easy to watch that we say are "no brain cells required," but HotD is like, "No brain cells allowed. Switch them off or put them on silent so you don't disturb anyone."
I have no hope for season 2. I would never rec this to anyone or say that I think the writing will improve. The foundation is shit. You can't build a strong s2 on a shit s1 unless you're writing a procedural or an anthology where nothing that comes before matters.
You can't undo things like Alicent supporting Aegon as king because of a misunderstanding. There's a limit to how many things you can retcon without destroying all sense of continuity and they've already gone beyond that in s1.
They're past plot holes. They have whole parts of the world that are just void of all thought. Alicent and Rhaenys are characters who respawn and disintegrate from scene to scene as needed. Corlys is three lines of dialogue in a trenchcoat. Daemon Targaryen is somehow, impossibly, a less-developed Damon Salvatore.
No optimism here.
I'm that jaded ex fan who's like, "hotd is a barren wasteland, riddled with racists, ableists and toxic stans, and those are just the writers. The very fandom air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten-thousand Lindelof-level writers could they fix this shit."
But that being said, I have a really bad habit of watching shit TV.
I've seen Catwoman more than 5 times.
Waterworld, Jonah Hex, Elektra, Daredevil (Ben Affleck and Colin Farrell), Battlefield Earth, Supernova. At least 8 of the Fast movies. All the Transformers. Dracula 2000. All the old school classics of bad cinema.
I haven't watched Morbius as yet and the only reason why is because I feel like Jared Leto is intentionally trying to become Nicholas Cage and I don't want to support that.
There is something about the cringe that hooks me. And with a TV series? That weekly cringe? That is peak entertainment.
It used to take me 4 sometimes 5 hours to watch and digest a single episode of Titans because there were so many questions to think about.
I hyperfixate on bad writing. Trying to figure out all the ways it went wrong and why and what they were trying to do. Once I start, I can't stop thinking about it. I'm hoping swhhw gets it out of my system, but I don't know.
Like, anybody can make good TV. Anybody can do that if you try hard enough. But truly horrible TV isn't supposed to exist. It's like 20 million an episode to make HotD? Nobody is supposed to invest that in a show where the showrunner doesn't even know how old the characters are. Bad TV shows are supposed to be snuffed out before they see the light of day.
But HotD is something special.
You don't accidentally end up with a Koolaid Dragon busting up through concrete. A director described that scene to a VFX crew. The actors had to rehearse that repeatedly. They had to do a read-through...
Like, just think about that.
And then they announce that they're going ahead with s2 without writers?!
Tumblr media
That is insane. Part of me says look away, and the other part of me says that s2 of HotD will be something the likes of which I'll never see again.
I really don't want to watch S2, but honestly, I might. Not because I think it will be better but because I'm dead certain it can only get worse.

oo so curious abt all of these but how about "and if you don't love me now" and "whatever happens to me, i know it's for the better" ?? good luck on writers block also that shit is EVIL <- currently trying to shake it off rn
writer's block truly is so awful, like why am i staring at a blinking cursor and forgetting every word in the english language, can't it all just be easier. but alas. i hope both of our writer's block clears up soon!!
okay so, a significant aspect of "and if you don't love me now" is in the year of our lord 2024, eddie roundtree's first (and only) solo album goes viral on tik tok. so every scene is connected to a track from that album and there are little multi-media snippets that open each scene. i've had a lot of fun trying to mimic various pop culture and music publications. here's probably my favorite:
track eight: second-place finish “ my love’s a god you don’t believe in / my love’s a house that you don’t sleep in / i know, i know ” Roundtree took his time arriving at his album's thesis statement, but here it is, in time for the finale. The title is depressing in its irony; the singer has lost every two-man race he has competed in over the course of his life, but finally recognizes that even if the winner were to disappear tomorrow, he would not be called up to wear the crown. He had never been in the running in the first place. With a brutal honesty he evades on other tracks, Roundtree determines, “You’re a lover; you just don’t love me.” The brutality is served by how spare the musical arrangement is: a lone but faithful acoustic guitar, reminiscent of an old Townes Van Zandt song. Out of pleas or places to hide, Roundtree is left with only his guitar and his final testament’s fading refrain. He knows, he knows, he knows. — from “We Break Down Every Track on Eddie Roundtree’s Album, Secondhand Sounds” Pitchfork || June 30, 2023
meanwhile, "whatever happens to me, i know it's for the better" is even more sports rpf. background: at the us open in 2022, one of the greatest tennis matches ever was played between carlos alcaraz and jannik sinner. it went until like 3 AM. highly recommend watching it if you have a spare four and a half hours. in this match (spoiler alert), jannik sinner had a match point in the fourth set that he failed convert. carlos alcaraz ended up winning in the fifth set and then went on to win the entire tournament, his first grand slam title at only 19.
so...what would have happened if jannik had converted that match point? coming to a fic near you (hopefully)
“Advantage, Sinner.” The crowd inside Arthur Ashe was screaming, and the noise shook the stadium like a minor earthquake. Carlos had stopped trying to guess where their loyalties lied three hours ago. It seemed to him they weren’t on the side of Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz anymore, but on the side of the tennis itself, cheering at the end of every hard-fought point not because of who won it but because of the pure magic spun off their rackets. They needed Carlos to save this match point, because of how desperately they wanted more. It was the tennis Carlos dreamed of playing since he was a kid. Tennis that left the world breathless. Tennis, ten years from today, someone would reminisce about to anyone who’d listen. I was there for Alcaraz and Sinner’s US Open quarterfinal. I watched Alcaraz save a match point at the bottom of the fourth set. Mopping the sweat off his face, Carlos readied himself to make it so. Advantage, Sinner, but not for long. Carlos watched Jannik walk back to the baseline, anticipated him blowing on the base of his racket before he brought it to his lips. Already, he knew so much about Jannik, how his body moved, his on-court ticks. How he clenched his jaw with the same ferocity as he clenched his fist when he won a crucial point. How he planted his hands on his hips when he couldn’t believe he had missed. How he never let up, not for a second. Carlos had dreamed of him, too. The greatest players needed a rival, someone who pushed them to their breaking point, then past it. He knew now, if he hadn’t known already, that rival was Jannik.

Thank you for writing what I always wish Daemon and Rhaenyra's story was in canon. The truth is that I was never a fan of Daemon x Laena, however, I loved the portrait you made of her in your fic and I can imagine her being that way completely, however, as far as Harwin is concerned, I know that I have a rather unpopular opinion, that of having children bastards with him seemed to me a totally unnecessary addition by Martin to weaken Rhaenyra's character as future queen and destine people to death, their relationship also did not seem to me based on love, but on desire, he never knew how to give Rhaenyra a stop or advice to stop having children who were clearly his and who would question her as an heir, I admit 1 but 3 seems to me a very big impudence, more knowing that there was no way for them to look like their mother (another favor from Martin to rhae) . In addition, in the case of Daemon and Laena, at least they were husband and wife, something that Harwin and Rhaenyra were not, I feel that their relationship is very romanticized, honestly they were lovers, it is not that they could have a family life in the eyes of the entire court and clearly To me it seemed like a patch in Rhaenyra's life for being married to laenor... and not being able to have been with the man she wanted. It has already been seen that he had 3 children with Harwin in quick succession... Daemon came back and it was over and once he had 3, what does it matter a 4? Lately, since the premiere of the abomination on hbo, there are many harwin fan girls who endorse him a lot and I don't understand it to be honest, his children weren't destined to be kings either, I'm of the opinion that it wouldn't even have happened if there wasn't dance. A true ally who thought with his head and nothing else would have acted differently, I think. I'm sorry to have such a negative opinion but it's tired to see people selling him as Rhaenyra's great love when he wasn't, in my opinion, of course. It also tires to always see the children born of their love affair as more loved and developed by the fans than the next kings of westeros🤣. I hope you don't mind my opinion but the Strong boys didn't fulfill my Targaryen supremacist quota so I'm more than happy reading your story, where you represent Harwin in a way that I can imagine quite simply at least in relation to Rhaenyra and good-natured, but for me that's it. I hope not to see like a bad person haha, I can be very direct in saying my opinions and sometimes they are questionable, i know ❤️
Greetings ✌️
Hi there 🤗
I hope you are well (and still there X'D) because this was such a big delay on my part 💔 but better late than never!
First, thank you so so much for your beyond kind words ❤️ I write what I wished the story could be as well, so I am happy others like my choices 🩷 asoiaf Daemyra are prime steak and adding anyone else in the picture is putting ketchup on it so I am just serving the steak and removing the ketchup 😂 just prime fillet mignon which is asoiaf Daemyra.
I absolutely agree with the fact that George added the "Velaryon" princes to add more drama to the mix and to make the whole claim thing more balanced and less just about Rhaenyra being a woman. Of course that ultimately I would argue that George didn't do it very well because although the "Velaryon" princes should have been a HUGE thing the fact is they were an afterthought of the Green Council - brought up only by Criston and Alicent - and none of the lords either pro or against the Blacks and/or the Greens ever mentioned them.
I think George succeeded at making it a big thing for the fandom and at making other people look at what Rhaenyra's behaviour said about her and at the lack of legitimacy of her three eldest heirs and going "Yeah I'm neutral" or "Yeah I am Team Green" (the latter a very small minority not even 10%), but he definitely failed at showing that this was a such a major thing for the characters. Besides the Greens mocking the "Velaryon" princes and Rhaenyra it's like... no one really cared, and this would contradict the very strong (no pun intended) hatred that many of the asoiaf characters have concerning illegitimate children. So yeah... I think that should have been explored a LOT better.
In my story, however, that issue is removed, and I have had many fans who consider themselves neutral tell me that actually in my story they are Team Black because there are no "Velaryon" princes, and the fact that Rhaenyra married Daemon - a Targaryen - and only had Targaryen children + her being her father's choice of heir would make it very hard for the Greens to have a step to hold on to. And this is not because I have embellished Rhaenyra or Daemon mind you. I have lost count of the times I had people say that Rhaenyra is annoying, childish, spoiled, arrogant, stupid, oh personal favourite "window-licking clown"... or that Daemon is cruel, and an assh0le, and that he doesn't love Rhaenyra. Hells, I had someone say that until a point they thought I was actually a Team Green fan X'D but the issue of the "Velaryon" princes that made the issue less clear is removed, and in such circumstances it's almost impossible for someone to not stand the Blacks - which just adds to how weak the Greens' claim is and how dependent on the existence of the "Velaryon" princes it also is. And also mind you, I made a lot of choices to make Alicent look better - for instances, it's Otto who wants to marry Helaena and Aegon, she has reservations, and at the start she is not very on board with many of her father's plans. I also added more depth to Aegon, and explored his relationship with Sunfyre for instance, and downplayed many of his "advances" at maids and women. I also don't shy away from showing what a sh:t sister Rhaenyra was, and this is another complain I frequently had - how she treated her siblings.
I might be Team Black but I give credit where credit is due and I like to explore the fault the Blacks had, and the good the Greens had. They are still the villains, but they clearly were the villains in canon to. That's not changing and someone can be the clear villain and still have reasons.
Moving to canon now and to why Rhaenyra in canon had three illegitimate children I have a simple answer: because she could and because she didn't care.
I think it is always important to consider that pre-Dance was the pinnacle of Targaryen power - they had never been as powerful before and never would again. All of them were raised to believe they were more god/goddess than man/woman and all of them were arrogant to a fault. And as I have said before, why shouldn't they be? Truth was they were superior to almost everyone in almost every way, and truth or law was whatever they said it was.
Even in good freindly Walserys wee see this. If he wanted a woman to rule he could do it. If he wanted people to patch up and be friends he simply demanded it. And if he wanted his daughter to marry a gay man and have children with him that would happen thanks to his Hand's son :D
Rhaenyra was just the same, and you see her have this attitude. Her reply to "Your sons are bastards" was always to either kill or threaten. Hells, she had the audacity to hear Aemond call her sons Strong and be like "Well who told you that lie?! We must get to the bottom of this!"
Rhaenyra:
Tumblr media
Viserys:
Tumblr media
Everyone else:
Tumblr media
Meanwhile Aegon II said and well - oh GOD I am defending Aegon II 🤢:
Tumblr media
As to what drove her to Harwin Strong, I mean, people can tell themselves whatever they want, but at the end of the day it was mainly three things:
Daemon was not available - had been exiled under penalty of death two years prior
2. Harwin had courted her and likely she liked him well enough
3. She was married against her will to a man who left her alone during the celebrations of their wedding and never consummated the marriage at 17, and wanted someone to love her Harwin was there, she liked him well enough, and likely she knew HE liked her well enough to keep his mouth shut and take his affair with him to the grave Spoiler :D he did! Rhaenyra:
Tumblr media
Now as you say and well, very clearly Harwin was a source of comfort for her above anything else, and I agree that it speaks volumes how many children they had before Daemon returned, vs. how many they had after he returned and how quickly she again fell in Daemon's arms and got pregnant. Given the timeline it's very likely that Harwin was actually still alive when Rhaenyra got pregnant with baby Aegon. My brothers in Christ literally the day Otto arrived in King's Landing following Harwin and Lyonel's deaths, word arrived that Rhaenyra had married Daemon. Even if we are to believe it was only after Harwin died what a fine way Rhaenyra had to mourn the "love of her life"... by banging her former lover and marrying him. Someone who could have been involved in Harwin's demise btw.
And they say romance is dead!
Tumblr media
Delusions and wishful thinking aside, one can argue who the love of Daemon's life was. The love of Rhaenyra's life however should be undebatable for anyone with reading skills and basic comprehension and that someone was Daemon. See all of this for book passages showing that Rhaenyra loved Daemon at every damn stage of her life: as a child, teenager and adult as agreed by all sources. And every damn time this b:tch returned Rhaenyra just turned around and went:
Tumblr media
And fell in his arms and maybe pieces of furnisher like bed or in the rocks of Blackwater Bay if you believe Mushroom X'D
Tumblr media
About the show I don't consider it so I am not even going to go there, I will just say that how anyone can have any ship in Redacted outside Renada/Alicia or Helen/Diet Almond Milk is a mystery to me because they all absolutely suck and apologies but having a man look at you like he's going to tear your oesophagus from your body and wear it for a necklace is not romantic, or the only interaction you have with him is just some witty banter where once again you are showing what a fine Girlboss you are. But wtf do I know about the fandom's standards?! I know they are lower than the Titanic.
Tumblr media
I don't think you sound like a bad person or anything of the like, if anything it says a lot that many of the so-called "Targaryen" fans only seem to like Targaryens who are less Targaryen and don't look like Targaryens, and the same people who love the "Velaryon" princes and call themselves Team Black fans hate Aegon and Viserys and go on to posts made by their fans to call them monsters. Their greatest sin? Why they are very pure Targaryens with Targaryen parents who enjoyed banging each other's brains out, had no reservations about incest, and looked so Targaryen that Aegon's hair was almost white.
Wincest is not for everyone.
Tumblr media
Now, personally, I have nothing against the "Velaryon" princes. I actually like Jace and Luke and feel bad for Joffrey because imagine your siblings being Jacaerys, Lucerys, Rhaena, Baela, Aegon, and Viserys, and you are Joffrey... ain't no ointment for that burn. #cancelLaenor But I don't buy for a minute that even if there were no Greens that they would just be one big happy family and that Daemon would gladly tell his legitimate kids step aside for Harwin's illegitimate sons to take their place.
Sorry, I have oats with my milk not delusions or Disney. Daemon is a grey character and if you think that equates to his d:ck not working when he's sad or conflicted thEn we didn't read the same books :)
Tumblr media
Well this was a long answer XD hope you are still around Anon to see me enter my Joker Era because I am so DONE. I really need some good asoiaf content and to touch some grass because after almost five years... I don't know how much I can take it.
But oh well. If my Joker Era can make anyone laugh it's what we here for fam.
Tumblr media
All the love to you 🥰❤️

I was able to return to the main camp, and I waited for everyone at the entrance.
Morinaga: Good work, Yuno!
Kagetoki: Were you standing here trying to be a scarecrow?
Yuno: Welcome back!
(Thank goodness. Both of them are safe.)
Kagetoki-san pushed my back and made me sit down in front of the bonfire.
Kagetoki: Your final task for tonight is to rest.
Morinaga: The guys in my unit were talking about it.
Morinaga: They said that our apothecary kept on working bravely even when it was raining arrows.
Yuno: That was because… I feel better when I keep myself occupied.
(Rather than drowning in feelings of helplessness and sorrow because of my memory loss…)
(I wanted to help others.)
Yuno: Um, what about the others?
Kagetoki: Shigehira should return with his troops soon. He’ll come look for you, even if you don't wait at the entrance for him.
Morinaga: He was worried about her the whole time. It's understandable.
Morinaga: We received a report from Yoritomo-sama and Tamamo’s side that Yoritomo-sama sustained some minor injuries. But don’t worry, his life is not in danger.
Kagetoki: His injuries could've been much worse if you never made that suggestion. You should be proud of yourself.
Yuno: It was made possible because all of you helped me with persuading the soldiers.
(Even though I lost my fox powers, I could still fight for everyone.)
I felt relieved… but there was still an unexplainable aching in my heart.
Meanwhile, on the Imperial Court’s side…
Ibuki: Yasuchika, you were defeated by Yoritomo and that baby fox?
Tumblr media
Yasuchika: Shut up if you don't want me to snap you in half.
Yasuchika grumpily snapped at Ibuki in the tent.
Akihito: Mind your words, Ibuki.
Akihito: He wasn't able to kill Yoritomo today, only because his plans got messed up.
Akihito: The two of us failed to kill Morinaga, Kagetoki, and Shigehira. We’re not doing any better.
Ibuki: The thing that makes the Shogunate so strong is their teamwork.
Ibuki: The Rebel Army is also very strong, but our alliance was formed at the last minute, so it's not very effective.
Yasuchika: — I’m sorry. I’m such a good-for-nothing that Akihito-sama has to personally participate in the war.
Akihito: I planned to do that, but it was hard to use my powers with the Rebel Army around.
Akihito: Anyway, it was Yasuchika who reduced the Shogunate’s military strength by the largest number. You did a good job.
Yasuchika: … Okay.
Yasuchika’s tensed up facial expression relaxed slightly.
Ibuki: As usual, all the Onmyōji are just sitting around and doing nothing, except for Yasuchika.
Ibuki: What the hell are they doing now?
Yasuchika: I had them investigate something that has been worrying me… but they don't seem to have made any progress.
Yasuchika answered gloomily and stared into space as if deep in thought.
Akihito: Is that thing worrying you… the parting gift Ashiya Doman said he left you?
Yasuchika: Yeah.
Yasuchika: I doubt he said that just because he was unwilling to admit defeat… but I don't have the time to investigate it myself.
Yasuchika: — I sure hope I’m being worried over nothing.
At that moment… a faint pitter patter noise sound could be heard.
Akihito: It's raining.
Ibuki: There were large rain clouds looming over the mountains. Looks like it's going to be a thunderstorm.
Yasuchika: …
Akihito: Yasuchika? What's wrong?
Yasuchika: Nevermind, it's nothing.
Although Yasuchika didn't explain the bad feeling he was getting…
In a place no one knew about — something strange was happening.
Raindrops from the ceiling of a cavern dripped down onto an eerie looking shrine.
The raindrops were of a bright crimson red color, like they were blood from the battlefield.
???: …
“Something” that had been enshrined in the heavy bronze shrine drenched by the foul-smelling liquid shook restlessly.
Yuno: — The rain isn't stopping.
(It’s good that today's battle was canceled, but… I still feel uneasy.)
The wind and rain that washed the blood off the battlefield grew heavier…
Yoritomo: It's not like we can control the weather. Just stay put.
The bad weather persisted till the next day, so the Shogunate decided to change the location of their camp.
The Rebel Army and Imperial Court also moved their camps to areas that would not be affected in the case of a landslide, and were both enjoying a short break.
Tamamo: We should still be on guard, yeah? If Yasuchika is controlling an ayakashi, it will attack regardless of the weather.
Yoritomo: You have a terrible imagination.
I wrapped a new bandage around Yoritomo-sama’s shoulder.
Yuno: Yoritomo-sama is injured, so I hope nothing bad happens.
Yoritomo: I can still wield a sword.
Tamamo: And we have an outstanding apothecary with us.
(I’m glad the injury isn’t serious.)
Tamamo: By the way, Yuno, I noticed that you’re always wearing that bracelet on your wrist… Do you like it that much?
Yuno: Oh—... yeah.
I unconsciously gave a blunt response.
The purple bracelet got dirty while I was running around the battlefield.
Yuno: I think I got it from Kyōto… I don't exactly remember it, though.
Yuno: But it's a little hard to take off.
(A festival, stalls… that’s all I can recall.)
(It looks pretty, but I don't usually wear this color… so why did I choose this?)
Yoritomo • Tamamo: …
Yoritomo: When the war is over, let’s all go somewhere together.
(Huh?)
Tamamo: Now that's rare. The extreme workaholic Seiitaishogun planning an outing?
Yoritomo: Once in a while is fine. Blame it on the rain.
Yoritomo: Yuno, you will decide where to go.
Yuno: You want me to decide…?
Yoritomo: You’re going to choose a place that will be most memorable for you.
Yuno: T-that’s a pretty important task.
While I thought about it seriously, Yoritomo-sama gently placed his hand on my head.
Yoritomo: Sometimes, it’s better to make new memories, instead of trying to bring back the lost ones.
(Yoritomo-sama?)
Tamamo: — I agree.
Yuno: I guess you're right… I’ll stay positive and move on.
Yoritomo: Take your time. If you find yourself unable to move on, there are plenty of people willing to support you.
Tamamo: Yep. Let’s all buy Yuno gifts.
Yoritomo: Not a bad idea.
Yuno: W-why? I’m flattered, but there's really no reason for you to do that.
Tamamo: You don't need a reason to show someone affection. … Right, Yoritomo?
Yoritomo: Something about the way you said that sounds weird.
Tamamo: That is exactly what I meant. The word “affection” can be interpreted in many ways.
Tamamo: I also won’t stop you if you want to buy me gifts too.
(What the heck!?)
Yoritomo-sama smacked the side of Tamamo’s elbow.
The storm lasted for three days, just like the two armies predicted.
...
On the third night…
— Yasuchika was dreaming in his sleep.
Yasuchika: Ue…
The first thing he felt was the fear in the air, and heard people screaming.
Soldier 1: AAAAAAAAAAHHH!
He turned his head in the direction of the screaming and saw that a field on grass was in flames.
Soldier 2: Ouch! I got burnt.
Soldier 3: What on earth is going on!? We must escape…
The soldiers were running for their lives.
They were a mix of soldiers from the Shogunate, Rebel Army, and Imperial Court. Fighting was the last of their priorities at that point in time.
Yasuchika: A precognitive dream… this is the battlefield?
Yasuchika: — That's not just any fire.
There was a loud roar, followed by flames being blown onto the battlefield.
Something passed through Yasuchika’s body and scorched the ground with its tongue.
He spotted a large figure behind the sparks flying around.
Yasuchika: …!
The next moment, the scenery changed.
— He was now looking at the city of Kyōto.
Townsfolk 1: Quick! Hide!
Townsfolk 2: There's a monster! There's a monster!!
Townsfolk 3: Save me…
Yasuchika: What’s happening?
An ear-piercing shriek echoed across the city of people fleeing.
A ginormous bird was flying in the air—
The bird’s wings that were of an eye-catching red color, were now blackened and discolored.
Yasuchika: — “Suzaku”.
Yasuchika’s eyes were wide as saucers.
With another deafening shriek, it engulfed the entire city in a frightening black smoke…
The buildings that once lined the beautiful streets collapsed like they were toys.
Yasuchika: … Kyōto?
The next moment, Yasuchika found himself in a different place again.
Yuno: Ahh…
Tumblr media
Yasuchika: …*gulp*
— Blood. A woman soaked in blood collapsed on the ground, trembling in pain.
Yasuchika: Yuno-san…
Yuno: How… did this… happen…?
A “doki doki” sound could be heard coming from Yasuchika.
He only realized later that it was his heartbeat.
Yuno: I just wanted to help…
Blood was pooling underneath Yuno’s body. It was almost too late.
Yasuchika: Is Yuno-san dying?
Yasuchika stood there frozen as his mind went blank.
Yuno: Must… tell…
Yasuchika: What is it?
Yuno looked up faintly, although there was no way she could've heard those words Yasuchika muttered while in a daze.
Yuno: Ashiya… Doman…
Yasuchika: …!
Yuno: Please… save everyone…
Tears ran down her dirtied cheeks.
Even if Yasuchika wanted to wipe them off, he couldn't.
Just like their final parting moment. He didn't touch her.
Yasuchika: This is a precognitive dream… I can't change the way it ends.
In front of his eyes, Yuno’s eyelids grew heavier.
Yuno: It's… cold….
— He couldn't remain standing any longer.
Feeling weak, Yasuchika fell to his knees in front of Yuno.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yasuchika: Why does it have to be you?
Yasuchika: Why not anyone else… why not ME!
Yasuchika covered his face with his trembling hands and cried out.
Yasuchika: I’m the evil one. I’m the one who should suffer and die alone…
The scenery warped and Yasuchika was swallowed by the darkness.
Yasuchika: Hah…
All of a sudden, Yasuchika jolted awake in the tent.
He repeatedly took deep breaths to calm himself down.
Yasuchika: … Ashiya Doman’s parting gift.
He bit his lips to endure the nauseous feeling.
Yasuchika: I…
Yuno: Mm…
(Is someone… calling for me?)
I woke up because I thought I heard someone calling my name, but all I heard after that were the sounds of rain and the wind howling.
(I might be running a fever. My head is fuzzy.)
“— Yuno”
Yuno: There it is again.
“... Yuno. Yuno.”
A hushed voice could be heard in the raging storm.
(I need to go take a look.)
Alarm bells were ringing in my head.
But my limbs moved like they had a mind of their own.
(I know. Someone is calling me… I have to go to them.)
My arms and legs felt as heavy as lead.
(Ahh, maybe this is a dream… yeah it definitely is.)
Like it was proving my point, my body started walking aimlessly.
Lookout Soldier: Oh? Yuno. Where are you going at this hour?
Yuno: …
Lookout Soldier: …? Did she not hear me?
The soldier tilted his head in confusion and watched Yuno’s back as she silently walked away.
He concluded that Yuno, being the hard worker she is, had gone to the tent where the injured soldiers were at, so he returned to his post.
(How long have I been walking for? … Where am I going?)
“Yuno.”
Yuno: Who are you?
I muttered half consciously.
The trees around me, bending in the storm, whispered in a bewitching voice.
“Ashiya Doman.”
Ashiya Doman — The Vengeful Spirit
It bears a grudge against xxx from the xxx Clan, so it xxxx…
(What does he want now?)
The bits of information going through my head hurt.
Yuno: What did I do…!?
I got goosebumps when I had a gut feeling that I was in danger.
I was about to turn around and make a run for it when—
(Ack.)
— I suddenly felt myself falling.
Yasuchika: There's something… I need to tell you.
A short while after having that precognitive dream, Yasuchika visited Akihito in his tent.
Ibuki, who got summoned to the tent, replied in a sarcastic tone.
Ibuki: Judging from how pale you look, I don't think you invited me here to drink.
Akihito: This is a rare occurrence.
Yasuchika: Yes.
Without even drying off the rain water on him, Yasuchika turned to Ibuki and Akihito.
Yasuchika: I had a precognitive dream.
Yasuchika: The parting gift Ashiya Doman spoke of — It’s an incantation used to corrupt “Suzaku”, Kyōto’s guardian deity.
Tumblr media
Ibuki • Akihito: …!
Yasuchika: A sacrifice will be offered during a ritual and the corrupted Suzaku will destroy Kyōto.
Ibuki and Akihito inhaled sharply.
Akihito: Suzaku is one of the four gods, correct?
Ibuki: How can something that great be corrupted by a curse—
Yasuchika: Doman made a sorcery tool before his death, and sealing his soul wasn’t its only purpose.
Yasuchika: He died only after setting up that tool to destroy Kyōto, the city Seimei was protecting.
Yasuchika: The tool’s magic can only be activated when a specific condition is met. Therefore, it was inactive for a long time, and no one noticed its existence.
Ibuki: What condition?
Yasuchika: Blood.
Yasuchika: The ritual will start if there is a massive amount of bloodshed in the area near where the tool is sealed.
Akihito: — The war in Kyōto. Doman has been waiting for this moment?
Yasuchika: Doman sent ayakashi through the damaged parts of the barrier…
Yasuchika: My guess is that he did it in case this place doesn't become a battlefield.
Ibuki: He intended to make use of ayakashi to cause bloodshed if the human beings don't fight each other.
Akihito: There was definitely enough blood spilled during the war so far, just as Doman expected. That means…
Yasuchika nodded silently.
Yasuchika: This three day long storm could be a sign that the ritual has begun.
Yasuchika: When the ritual enters its next stage, it will be complete after the sacrifice is offered.
Ibuki: And who is going to be the sacrifice?
Yasuchika: …
Yasuchika: It's Yuno-san.
Akihito: … No way.
Ibuki: Why that woman?
Yasuchika: Because Yuno-san has interacted with Doman before.
Yasuchika: Her memory loss made it easier for her to be lured to that sorcery tool…
Ibuki: What an unlucky woman.
The tent fell dead silent.
After a while, Yasuchika spoke.
Yasuchika: Akihito-sama, do you still remember the promise you told me to make with you?
Yasuchika: I finally know what I want… so can I tell you about it?
Yasuchika’s voice trembled towards the end of his sentence, showing that he was feeling conflicted.
Akihito: Sure. What is it?
Ibuki: …
Yasuchika: During this war, I—
Yuno: Ugh…
Tumblr media
I found myself in a strange unknown place.
(The air here smells familiar… it’s the smell of danger.)
I looked down at my wrist.
(My bracelet is missing. It must've fallen off.)
Feeling uneasy, I tried to find a way back to where I came from, however…
Something seemed to take control of my consciousness again.
(W-why…)
My feet slowly moved forward by themselves.
I didn't know how many red and rusty torii gates I passed through.
The scenery around me only grew darker the deeper I went.
(This place is…)
I ended up at a dark cave with an old shrine in it.
(This place is creepy…)
In front of the shrine, there was a table that looked like an altar.
“Give it to me.”
“Give me the sacrifice’s blood.”
(What…)
My body moved by itself to lay on the altar.
(N-No… I need to escape…)
A black smoke was swirling in front of my eyes while I desperately tried to get up.
The smoke took the form of a human being…
Shadow: Give me Yuno’s blood.
The shadow held an old ornamental sword in its hand.
(...! No…)
My eyes widened in fear as it held the silver sword right above my chest…
(I can’t speak.)
When I felt like that was really the end of me..
???: Go! Protect her!
Something white flew into my sight.
(Is that paper…?)
The talisman fluttering around in the air turned into a bright beam of light that pierced through the shadow.
A man ran up to me, grabbed my hand, and hid me behind his back.
???: … I made it in time.
Yuno: Who are you…?
???: … Uhh
The man’s face contorted in pain for a moment when he heard my question.
But the next moment, he had a smile on his face…
Tumblr media
???: Nice to meet you. I’m an Onmyōji who just happened to be passing by.
(Why does this man’s smile look so… sad?)
The shadow that attacked me lost its form and vanished into the dark cave.
Yuno: An Onmyōji? Are you…
There was only one name I could think of.
Yuno: … “Yasuchika”?
Tumblr media
Yasuchika: …
(— That's the name of the man who cast that memory erasing spell on me, according to Yoritomo-sama and the others.)
Yasuchika: Yeah, that's right. It seems that you’ve heard of me before.
Yuno: You’re the man who… invited me to Kyōto… and stole my memories.
Yuno: Yasuchika-san, can you please tell me what happened back then?
Yasuchika: Nope. Curiosity kills the cat.
His evasive response made me frustrated, and then—
(Kyaaa!)
A sudden noise came from the shrine.
Its rusty bronze door bent in a strange manner.
Yasuchika: The sorcery tool is about to go on a rampage because the ritual was interrupted — Yuno-san, we have to run.
Yuno: Oh—
He pulled my hand, and we ran away together.
At the same time, the cave rumbled.
(The shrine’s door opened.)
Yasuchika: Don’t look back!
Yuno: … Ugh
He tightened his grip on my hand, forcing me back to my senses.
The cave started collapsing, causing rocks and dirt to pour down mercilessly.
(... We’re almost at the exit.)
I opened my eyes after we tumbled out of the cave.
Yasuchika: — It's coming.
(W-What!?)
A loud roar echoed through the air.
Yasuchika: — Get down, Yuno-san!
Yuno: Eh? … Ack.
I was pushed down onto the grass, and the two of us huddled together.
Almost immediately after that, a burning fire blew over our heads.
Yasuchika: It appeared earlier than I expected.
The first thing I saw when I looked up was a blazing vermillion wing.
— But only one wing was of that color, the other one appeared to be blackened and discolored.
Yuno: What is that…!?
Yasuchika: That's Suzaku, one of the four gods protecting Kyōto.
(Suzaku…!?)
Yuno: Suzaku, as in Suzaku Road and Suzaku Gate? THAT Suzaku!?
Yasuchika: Yep. Oh, I’ll set up a temporary barrier. Keep still.
(...!)
Tumblr media
Yasuchika: …
When Yasuchika-san stood up, a patterned bruise appeared on his face.
The whites of eyes turned black, and one of his eyes had a mysterious motif on its pupil.
Yuno: Yasuchika-san…? Your face…
Yasuchika: I know it’s scary to look at, but please bear with it.
Talismans fluttered around Yasuchika-san.
Suzaku: …, …
The vermillion bird circling in the sky swooped down.
Its huge beak glinted as it pointed toward me.
Yasuchika: As sturdy as steel, as refined as a silk cocoon, protect us.
The vermilion bird cried out begrudgingly and soared back into the sky when it hit an invisible wall.
Yasuchika: This barrier won't last very long, but at least long enough for us to plan our next move.
Yuno: T-thank you…
(— This man’s powers are extraordinary.)
I was still frightened… but I felt a lump in my throat when I looked at Yasuchika-san’s lonely back as he held his hand up to the sky.
Yasuchika-san quickly arranged a few talismans in front of him and chanted something.
A purple smoke rose around us and some sort of formation appeared…
Yasuchika: There we go. Let me explain our current situation to you while we prepare to fight back.
Yuno: Uhh okay.
Yasuchika: There’s this man named Doman, and he plans to destroy Kyōto. He was the one who corrupted Suzaku, its guardian deity.
Yasuchika: You were chosen to be the sacrificial lamb for the ritual to corrupt Suzaku.

Want You Bad - Day 3
This is part of a series for #sterekvalentineweek - I would suggest reading them in order.
What you can generally expect - hilarity, chaos, mishaps, slow burn, strong language, and vague descriptions of some minor criminal activity.
I hope you have as much fun on this adventure as I did!
Day 1 Day 2
If there was one thing that Stiles could say for himself, it was that he was a damn good friend. And damn good friends support their friends in need. Even when said need involved a hammer, nails, heavy lifting, and the egos of community theatre actors.
Erica, of course, was the exception. And because she was the exception, and Stiles had hit a brick wall on a case, he really couldn’t say no when she asked for his help getting the stage set up for opening night. (And if he got to sneakily ogle at Derek doing some heavy lifting of his own, well, that was his little secret.)
Stiles was well into hammering out the last few planks onto a set of prop stairs when the door at the back of the theatre burst open.
“Sorry, sorry!” the dude running down the aisle apologized loudly. “I got caught up!” When Stiles looked up, his eyes went wide.
“You!” he bellowed, catching the attention of everyone else on the stage, including Derek.
This was the guy he’d been looking for. He had been tasked with serving this asshat a court summons for months and months of child support back pay. Peter had brought the case to him personally. Stiles wasn’t about to let his payday go without a fight.
He dropped his hammer, and tried to make his way down the actual stage stairs to catch the guy, and sit him down so he could call Kira for the summons papers. However, his feet had other plans.
Just as Stiles hit the first stair, his foot got caught in a piece of rogue fabric. The fabric tangled, sending him sprawling down the stage steps, enveloping him in dark burgundy velvet. Stiles struggled to get the velvet off his face, only to be met with Erica’s amused smirk looking down at him.
“Wow, Stiles. Just. Wow.” Then Stiles spotted her phone in her hand.
“Erica, if you love me, and I know you do, you will not post or send that to anyone.”
“Too late, Batman!” Stiles felt his phone vibrate, and by Erica’s shit-eating grin, he knew she sent whatever she’d captured of his epic fail to the group chat.
“Well. Fuck.”
“Not even if you ask nicely, Boyd doesn’t like to share.”
With a groan, Stiles extricated himself from his velvet death trap. He spun around, hoping he wasn’t too late in catching the douchecanoe, only to spot Derek sitting on him in one of the audience seats. “Uh,” he said, eloquently.
“This was the guy you needed, right?” Derek asked, as if he didn’t already know. God, he looked good - even covered in dust and sweat.
“Uh. Yup. Yeah. Yes. Yes, that is the guy I need. No! Not need! Was looking for! Yeah. That one!” Stiles knew his face was turning various shades of red. He could hear Erica snickering at him, but that was a problem for Later Stiles. Right Now Stiles needed to deal with this.
“Right,” Derek said slowly. God, Stiles really wished the ground could open up right now and swallow him whole. “Well, you do what you need to do, and we’ll be right here while you do it. Trust me. He isn’t going anywhere without your say so.”
Instead of replying, and risk more unfortunate flailing word vomit, Stiles opted to nod. He turned to make his way back up the stage stairs so he could call Kira somewhere Erica wasn’t having an epic giggle fit.
And just his luck, Stiles’ foot caught the edge of the velvet fabric again, and sent him careening up the steps. “Why is this my life?” he asked the floor he was facing.
“Because you’re Stiles Stilinski, and no one else can be you but you.”
“It was a rhetorical question, Erica.”
“And you got a non-rhetorical answer. Now, stop trying to destroy our fabric! You have a job to do.”
“Yeah yeah, Catwoman, I’m on it.” It took ever ounce of self-control Stiles had not to look back. He really did not want to see the look on Derek’s face.
Lucky for him. Erica had managed to capture it on video, meaning everyone and their uncle (mainly Peter) would have opinions they were only too happy to share with Stiles.
God, why was this his life?

Movie Review | The Masque of the Red Death (Corman, 1964)
Tumblr media
It's been many moons since I've read the story this is adapted from, and while I don't consider this as an especially great failing given the circumstances, I always felt the ideal movie adaptation should be realized with grotesque, taboo-shattering explicitness. Given that this is a mid-'60s gothic horror, there is only so much you can show in terms of satanist debauchery without pissing off censors. A dancing child and a dog for entertainment? Maybe if they were eaten after the performance, that would be pretty messed up. No nudity, aside from a carefully blocked scene of Jane Asher getting out of the bath, although Hazel Court provides plenty of heaving bosom. There is a gorilla suit in a more sinister and horrifying context than I'm used to (which automatically makes this a good movie, regardless of what I'm rambling on about at the moment). So the movie has to suggest depravity and evil with a bit less showing and a bit more through atmosphere, meaning that it tasty in other ways. To be perfectly honest, I'm just chewing over some pretty minor reservations, but I'd like to see a version of this that plays like a more engaged Caligula (minus Bob Guccione's additions).
Whatever my (extremely minor) misgivings, this is a really engaging work. This is the first Edgar Allan Poe adaptation I've seen from Roger Corman, and on the basis of this, I'd definitely like to dig further. One thing he does that's really smart is find great actors for the material. People like Vincent Price and Patrick McGee look natural in the renaissance faire costuming, and are able to imbue wit and mischief into their fancy schmancy dialogue. Both are clearly having a ball. And Jane Asher provides a nice, sympathetic centre, grounding the movie's flamboyance, although I can picture another version where she's a bit more tempted by Price's evil, debauched ways. And as mentioned above, Hazel Court brings certain obvious... *clears throat* ...charms.
And the movie is just gorgeous to look at. Despite Corman's frugal reputation, this movie looks credibly lavish, likely because they were able to save some money by reusing the sets from Becket. Corman as always gets the most bang for his buck, having us creep along during the many scenes in which characters walk down the corridors, which along with the gorilla suit automatically makes this a good movie. This was shot by Nicolas Roeg, who with the help of the production design, floods each frame with bold colours to simultaneously eerie and decadent effect. I wouldn't quite call the look of the movie experimental, certainly not as much as Roeg's directorial efforts or his work as DP on Richard Lester's Petulia, which has an early form of his fractured editing style, but the ambience the movie achieves feels bit more off-kilter than the usual gothic horror costume piece. A high point is the nightmare sequence in which Court is attacked by a slew of scary foreigners, with the ghastly green hues and dissolve-heavy editing by Ann Chegwidden casting a palpably sinister aura over the scene. And if the climax is less graphic than one might hope thanks to the censorial limitations, the bold use of red certainly gives it a kick.

"If I don't vote for Kamala, what do we do about Trump?"
"Just assassinate him successfully then! No need to vote for her if he's dead!"
Excuse my French, but some of y'all are putain d'insupportable.
Okay, cool. You killed Trump.
The problem doesn't stop there.
Because now, you have a large group of people with both money and power in the United States who supported him who will turn around and blame every minority group ever for violence in the country and decide to vigilante their justice the same way an assassination would.
Trump isn't the whole fucking problem.
He's only a part of it.
The whole problem is that this country has been spirally into fascism for many years, bit by bit, chipping away at the seams since even before Obama became president. And after we got a Black president, well, the racists and white nationalists ramped it up, pushing propaganda, psyops, putting "their boys" in higher positions like they already were.
Trump is at the forefront because of how he stacked the Supreme Court, and he's the one white Christian nationalists want to rally behind because he successfully put people in place to reduce rights for anyone with a uterus and increase them for corporations (remember the Chevron case and how the current SCOTUS overruled it).
This is so far beyond Trump.
He's just been the most successful so far.
Killing him won't end it. He's not some big bad villain who contains all the evil.
If anything, his murder would embolden the forces behind him into action, just like it did on January 6th, 2021. He is already more popular now than days before because the assassination failed (and no, it's not some conspiracy, please shut up).
Y'all hardcore getting on my fucking nerves, cause I know at least some of this is because people don't want to vote for someone who doesn't exactly fit everything they want in the world.
You're never, ever, going to get that person unless you run for office yourself.
I could go down the whole spiel of parasocial expectations and human nature, but I'm not. I'm really not in the mood for it.
It fucking sucks that we have to vote between several evils and that third parties are substantially less popular than the major parties, unlike in other countries where they do have two main parties but the other parties are also important and often get elected in high positions.
But that's not gonna change suddenly. We're not gonna suddenly get that in time for the election. Trump's current presidential legacy follows over 50 years of systemic effort (like, I'm talking back beyond Reaganomics).
Some other efforts have also been systemic, like the right to homosexual marriage! And that was a good systemic effort! But gay marriage didn't become legal overnight! And voting for third parties or getting the Perfect Candidate also won't happen overnight!
And now, at the Nth Hour, is this really the time you want to take a stance in neutrality by not voting, hoping someone will kill Trump, and not paying attention to the millions behind him?
So fuckin unserious.
I'm not telling anyone who to vote for. That's not my prerogative here.
But, I am saying, if you don't want Trump or what he represents, stop hoping for the perfect storybook savior and work with what you have.
Merde.
