“One of the best feelings is finding someone who really gets you. A person who lets you be vulnerable and honest. The kind of person who encourages you to push past your flaws because they accept you as you are. Someone who never tells you that you’re too much of this and too little of that. Because to them you’re just enough of everything they love.”

so this is me basically yapping about my queen’s complexity😊 regina mills they could never make me hate you
ANYWAYS. one thing i absolutely ADORE about her complexity is her voice. lana parrilla’s voice consistently changes depending on her scenes and i think it is done absolutely BEAUTIFULLY.
when she’s with cora, her voice is sensitive and quiet, as if she’s afraid to get yelled at but still looking for approval and validation.
with henry, her voice is firm but still caring. it’s her SON, after all.
with daniel, it’s free and joyful and you can just tell the difference when she speaks to him vs to anyone who’s not her family.
her voice is so powerful in so many other ways. it shows weakness, strength, fear, love, and it’s all portrayed and executed in a way that’s purely majestic.
next thing is the parallels.
regina’s greed is eventually fully explained, she loses everything, but something i’ve noticed is that everything she loses is everything she’s never actually had.
her mother’s approval, daniel, henry, hell even graham. something archie says in s2 is that everything she loses is because of magic. i think that’s true and they should’ve extended that theory further throughout the show.
her mother never truly loved her — only taking advantage of her daughter’s weakness, her need for love.
i’m not sure if this is stated, but i’ve always interpreted this way. i don’t believe she and daniel were together very long. yes, long enough to fall in love, but in ouat, that normally seemed to happen rather quickly. anyways, regina was this close to marrying daniel until cora killed him. she never truly had him in the way she wanted — and we all know nothing happened in the way she wanted.
with henry, she, again, never really had him. he was never her son, not in the way she needed him to be. he was always emma’s son, even if it felt like he was hers. yes, henry loves her, he cares about her, but at the end of the day, his determination to stick with emma in the earlier seasons always seems to overcome that.
the last one is obvious but graham could not feel anything. meaning, whatever regina felt for him, whether it was love, lust, or nostalgia, was not real. which, equals in false hope, false love, all that. (i say nostalgia because in my mind, regina sees daniel in all her past/current lovers.)
so, in conclusion to this little yapping session, regina goes several seasons with absolutely nothing. it hurts to say it, but that’s just the way her life was portrayed. now, i’m leading up to how her greed is involved in this, along with her almost drug-like addiction to magic.
she consistently goes after things she cannot have. an example of this is her attachment to children. in season two (?), regina takes away her fertility with magic to piss her mother off. this soon comes to bite her in the ass and leads to her adoption journey with henry.
maybe three times she tried to take someone’s children as her own. yes it sounds bad but there’s an explanation for that. since she can’t have children, regina’s greed for one only grows stronger. the first time she did this was with owen, a little boy who managed to get inside storybrook with his father — whom she framed for drunk driving and i believe child neglect (correct me if i’m wrong) when owen refused to live with her and abandon his father.
another time was with ava and nicolas, at the time known as hansel and gretel. after retrieving the iconic apple from the blind witch, hansel and gretel come back to regina’s castle and as a “reward,” she tries to invite them to live with her. she basically tried to bribe them, but their love for their father was so strong, so out of spite she uses magic to separate the twins from their father.
and lastly, throughout season one, she attempts to kill or frame emma several times. this is because of her attachment to henry — which this time is somewhat explainable. for once, she finally has the child she deprived herself of and all of a sudden, after years of trying to fully connect with her son, she loses him. as she did several times before. hence why i said henry was never truly her child.
ANYWAYS.😊 regina mills you are a being of majestic and conflicting things that make you the woman you are and i absolutely LOVE IT.

OUATtober 2022 Day 5 - Favorite Scene
This is an extremely hard choice to make because OUAT has so many great scenes that all have numerous strengths but one that almost instantly came to the forefront in my mind was the flashback of Regina's execution in 2x10 "The Cricket Game".
It's such an amazing scene, especially in the context the rest of the episode provides but specifically the few scenes surrounding it. Lana Parrilla's acting is fabulous and conveys Regina's thought process so well. She refuses to beg for her life the girl that she blames for the murder of her fiance. Her hatred is so strong and she's so convinced that Snow is the guilty party and it would just be a betrayal to herself and her love for Daniel to beg for mercy the person that she should have killed. Not even her love for her father - the person that she loves most - is enough to outweigh the hatred in her heart. And that is significant both because we already know how much she loves him - she used his heart to cast the Curse and because in the present storyline her demeanor is completely different because of her love for Henry, her son. Her feelings for one person instantly play off of her feelings of another person and their strength and that serves greatly to show Regina's priorities.
Speaking of, she puts hurting and/or angering everyone who's rooting for her death over avoiding causing more pain to her father. He's there and she led him to believe she listened to him only to practically turn around and spit in his face just for the sake of doing the same to everyone else present. She prefers to go out as the woman they were all afraid of and hated rather than take the chance of making herself weak in their eyes and allowing them to forget the terror she's inflicted on all of them. If she can't have her revenge, at least she can have the reassurance that she wasn't the only one who suffered, that she will haunt these people in their nightmares even after her death, just like Daniel's death haunts her as it ripped out the love out of her heart. And perhaps there's also a touch of hope that Snow going through with the execution will reveal her true face, the not innocent side of her that Regina knows is there.
We get to see the confusion and almost hurt on Regina's face when Snow spares her anyway. She did everything right, she said all the correct awful things to ensure that at least her death goes the way she wants it to and yet... Of course, she didn't want to die but what she wanted even less was owing her life to Snow's mercy after what she believes Snow did to her and Daniel. She was ready to take even the little love for her father that she has kept in her heart to the grave just to stick to her agony and hate after Daniel's death. And then her expectations - her entire understanding of the situation, of the world she lives in - crumble when Snow spares her and she has to scramble to cover up her shock while everyone is still caught on Snow's decision and isn't looking at her. By the time they remember her, she has her insolent, downright offensive grin back on her face in perfect contrast with the tears she showed only to her father, in perfect contrast to her open, even pleading attitude in Storybrooke when she's fighting to not be separated from her son.
This scene does so much not just for Regina's character, but also for her relationships with other people, including Rumple (and if you look at the parallels with the present - Emma and Cora as well). I always liked it for the drama because if there's one thing Regina knows how to do, it's definitely stir a shitstorm into motion. I am in awe of the significance of the scene in Regina's story, however, and those people who were closest to her at the time. The golden era of OUAT was really pure gold.

ALIX FIGUEROA is a 165 year old HOMOSEXUAL, CISFEMALE, SHE/HER, here in Firebrand City. People say they look a lot like LANA PARRILLA. They are SENSIBLE but can be WISTFUL. They are a EARTH WITCH SUPERIOR in Firebrand and they work as a FLORIST AT THE SECRET GARDEN FLOWER SHOP.
I.
Alix was born in a heavily colonized Puerto Rico, to an ancestral coven that took their roots from almost all corners of the world thanks to the the location of the island. Raised “commune” style, she was never really sure who exactly her mother was, she just knew that she had been conceived with an italian witch, somebody who the rest of the coven considered an outsider. so she was also kind of an outsider herself.
II.
The coven kept to themselves, quiet and dedicating to protecting the locals, the island and its resources, mainly nature and the Caribbean oceans. They didn’t stray too far and they were treated almost as a religion: the villagers prayed quietly and they got rain, stable harvests, healthy livestock.
III.
The world moved fast and the coven started getting smaller and smaller, the witches not being able to move with the times and unable to take the heartbreak of the destruction of the world and their people. They retreated further into mountains and jungles, trying to keep everything as stable and balanced as they could.
iv.
Alix was a quiet soul that always seemed older for her age. She had a thirst for knowledge and a desire to prove herself in a coven that had always second guessed her. The elders didn’t think the coven had much future, but Alix decided she was going to carry the legacy herself, even if she had to do it single-handedly. So she started learning everything she could, all the spells, the incantations, the bits of knowledge, of culture, the roots of witchcraft. She painstakingly unearthed the secrets the other witches had kept for centuries until she was almost positive she knew everything she could.
v.
As an earth elemental witch, Alix always possessed the talent to keep forest lush and green, that was her pride and joy: she got her powers from nature. Definitely not the most powerful one, she took her job one tree at a time, making flowers bloom and fruits grow. She had no particular affinity towards humans, only in her early years when there was a balance and they only took what they needed and they let nature thrive and keep growing. When they brought in their machines and their pollution, Alix sided with her coven and retreated into the wilderness to protect what she could from there.
iv.
When the war of humans vs supernaturals started, Alix’s tiny coven peeked out again, a couple of the strongest witches joining right away to fight against the humans. Alix stayed behind to protect her island and that was a huge mistake. Quickly outnumbered and overpowered by the colonizers that had always loomed over Puerto Rico, Alix was thrown into a metal cage and kept as a war prisoner. It wasn’t long before the Supernatural victory and her release, but it was enough. She felt deeply ashamed at the defeat and her magic considerably weakened.
v.
Getting settled in Firebrand is the opportunity for a fresh start in a proper city as a proper citizen of the world for Alix. She can actually have a job, build her magic and her self confidence back up, connect with other species, maybe even find a familiar? She can come across a little stand offish at first but once she gets over the initial awkwardness of first meetings, Alix is actually pretty sweet and has been known to occasionally snort while laughing.

okay uh i just finished watching Once Upon a Time for the first time last week and I really can’t stop thinking about Regina
Do I like that character because Lana Parrilla is hot or is she well written?  I cannot tell!  The interesting thing about that show is that it starts out by being like: Regina is unambiguously a Bad Guyℱ and the Good Guysℱ are Snow and Charming, who she is in direct conflict with.  And they didn’t pull punches!  There’s that ep where Regina straight up murders an entire village.  She does horrible things.  And Regina doesn’t really... she doesn’t get a redemption arc, right, it’s not like she’s redeeming herself in the eyes of the people she hurt most (that dead village).  she just gets a second chance.  She loves Henry in a way she hadn’t let herself love anyone since her Tragic Backstoryℱ and he accepts that love and uses it to challenge his mom to be a better person and leader, and she becomes one – I think?  Like, do I just like Regina because she’s hot and so I’m like “yass queen!” and the end?  Or does she prove she has grown as leader through her actions over the course of later seasons and she earns her authority and responsibility and I’m like “yes, you’re a  Queen”?  I think she earns it, but it’s hard to tell because she’s surrounded by such morons at all times, the bar is on the floor!
Because that’s the other thing about this show!  The Bad Guysℱ are never absolved of being bad – they need to forgive themselves and accept love that they feel they don’t deserve (on account of being bad), and they need to maybe let go of the notion of love being something you “deserve” and instead understand it as a gift they are given for sometimes random circumstantial reasons (e.g. you raised this boy and he feels attached to you even though you gaslit him for a year there, or you and this woman are both attracted to each other even though you’re a 300 year old pirate corrupted by revenge), and you just need to cherish it and hold on to it and reciprocate it as best you can.  But they never can just stop being Bad Guysℱ.  There is in fact a whole half of a season dedicated to how Regina cannot not be her Evil self and instead just needs to give herself the gift of love – she doesn’t need to be forgiven or make amends for irreparable harm she has done.  she doesn’t even need to forgive herself. she just needs to love her unforgivable parts.
This, I think, is interesting, and I’m glad Regina winds up being the heart of the show, even if it’s largely circumstantial (Jennifer Morrison was sick of network television hours).  I am fascinated by what this show has to say vis-a-vis its Bad Guysℱ about redemption and love and “goodness” as a notion that is perhaps overrated.
But the flip side of this is that Snow and Charming are presented as Good Guysℱ and they never stop being Good Guysℱ even as the show explores increasingly selfish and cruel actions they took (Snow manipulating Regina into killing her own mother in the cruelest way possible, the whole deeply upsetting thing with Maleficent).  Do they ever kill a whole ass village?  No, obviously not.  But it is weird that they are the Good Guysℱ and Maleficent is the Bad Guyℱ in their story, even though in the only interactions those characters ever really have, the roles are so obviously reversed.  What does this mean?  What do we make of the fact that the first thing we ever see David do after he kisses Snow is throw a sword RIGHT AT REGINA’S HEAD obviously with the intention to kill her in the pilot?  A sort of throw away action that proves to be actually pretty fundamental to his character: Present Day David is often impulsively violent – he loves a sword fight, he breaks into the town... luxury asylum and beats up King George with the initial intention to kill him and Bad Guyℱ Hook has to stop him – and this is seasons in!  David and Snow demonstrate extremely limited growth over the course of the show.  And yet, when they appear in the finale, Snow says without a hint of irony “we are on the side of right.”  Which they are.  But Regina is the hero of the finale, not because she acts with goodness or righteousness but because she gives the gift of undeserved love to her evil Wish Realm Son (!!).
Is this a coherent thematic statement about how “goodness” is overrated?  Or are David and Snow just... poorly written?  I truly don’t know.  Do I think this show is good?  Or is the main character just hot?  I don’t know!
And this is, of course, not helped by the absolute garbage that is Rumpelstiltskin’s non-character arc, where instead of taking any actions that ever demonstrate any sort of growth the writers just routinely revise his backstory to make him as blameless as possible for his horrible choices (sure it’s bad that he kills people with abandon but he only does that because his 12 year old son FORCED him to and the reason that was never reflected in their relationship is because he WIPED HIS MEMORY OF THE INCIDENT).  No shade to people who like the Belle-Rumpel ship except actually a little bit of shade because i could not imagine a more toxic pairing of toxic people.  and the show genuinely seems to like Rumpel and go out of its way to absolve him and give him multiple redemption arcs – he’s constantly being forgiven and he more than any other character at the end is presented as “deserving” a happy ending.  So I feel like... maybe I am just fishing for interesting themes in an incoherent soup, because the Rumpelstiltskin storyline stands in direct opposition to everything Regina/Snow/Charming could maybe be saying about redemption and deserving and love and goodness.
But it’s also, I think, possible that they just have a Robert Carlyle shaped blind spot. Which is confusing to me because he is not hot!
Anyway this is just a little messy brain dump but I have videos to edit and i also have to go to the library so I think I’ve emptied my brain enough for now, goodbye!

La cinta está dirigida, pues, por David Ayer (Escuadrón Suicida, Bright) y protagonizada por Shia LaBeouf (Honey Boy, The Peanut Butter Falcon), Bobby Soto (For the People, S.W.A.T. Los hombres de Harrelson), Chelsea Randon (Nueve vidas, Urgencias), Cinthya Carmona (The Fix, Greenhouse Academy) y Lana Parrilla (Érase una vez, Chase).

'The Tax Collector': Film Review Violent Los Angeles street culture on both sides of the law has been an abiding fascination in David Ayer's output, notably in his bruising screenplay for Training Day and his nervy, documentary-style cop drama, End of Watch. The buddy dynamic and gritty milieu of that 2012 film invigorate the best elements of The Tax Collector, the writer-director's return to a smaller-scale project after taking a critical hammering with the big-budget, high-concept outings of Suicide Squad and Netflix's Bright. "So why another L.A. crime movie?" asks Ayer in his Director's Statement. Why, indeed.
Despite a lot of admirable aims, such as creating layered roles for the Latino acting community and spending production dollars in areas that could benefit from the economic boost, this grim bloodbath feels too routine to be of much interest.
The well-acted film is shot by Salvatore Totino with impressive dexterity, capturing the urban sprawl of L.A. with a sharp eye and deft ability to build textured atmosphere, and Geoffrey O'Brien's editing shows an equally propulsive hand. But almost everything about this mean-streets action thriller feels familiar and a touch self-important, starting with its heralding of the sacred code blasted over a portrait of protagonist David (Bobby Soto) with his beautiful wife and angelic kids: "Love. Honor. Loyalty. Family."
The vaunted authenticity legitimized by Ayer's upbringing in South L.A. in the 1970s and '80s in this case doesn't mean he has a fresh perspective. The conflict of a loyal lieutenant in a criminal organization who compartmentalizes his life into hard-core career thug on one side, devoted paterfamilias on the other — "God allows me to walk from the darkness and come back into the light," says David — by now seems a standard gangster trope. As soon as that's established, we know exactly where he's going to feel the pain.
While Soto (Narcos: Mexico) makes a reasonably charismatic lead, the more magnetic character is his sidekick, a twitchy killing machine known as Creeper (Shia LaBeouf, reuniting with Ayer after Fury). Encased in figure-hugging skinny suits, Mafia-grade sunglasses and just the right amount of bling, LaBeouf goes full Method with his flavorful dialogue and wired physicality, whether Creeper is extolling the virtues of his smelly protein diet, musing on the value of morning meditation and the meaninglessness of God in his universe or simply itching to stop talking and spill some blood. The actor builds a fully formed character that suggests an intriguing backstory, giving off sparks in his every scene.
Regrettably, that's not so much the case with the more generically drawn David and his wife Alexis (Cinthya Carmona), who is perceived as being safely outside the family's criminal operations but has enough of a stake in the business to know what's what. She certainly has no qualms about calling on David to put the fear of death into the "Mexican Kardashians" holding up work on their daughter's quinceañera dress, and she oversees the weekly tally of protection money collected by David and Creeper from 43 different L.A. street gangs.
Alexis is also the point person who communicates directly with Wizard, the overlord of the crime organization whose current situation (along with the unbilled famous name playing the role) is revealed in the film's closing scene.
Tumblr media
'Tax Collector' Trailer Reteams Shia LaBeouf and David Ayer David's connection to Wizard becomes apparent only gradually, once an old rival of the crime boss returns from Mexico intent on reshaping the street-gang landscape according to his own rules. That hostile interloper, Conejo (borrowing the rapper name of Jose Martin, who plays the role with maximum menace), takes pleasure in reminding David how he's still a glorified errand boy instead of a fully-fledged made man.
Conejo first extends a hand offering David an executive role in his burgeoning empire. When that offer is declined, Conejo sends a brutal message via David's drug dealer Uncle Louis (comedian George Lopez, bringing understated snarl to a dramatic role). "I'm the future and you're the past," Conejo warns David, later adding, "Everything you love is gonna die."
While David prays to Jesus to keep his family and their palatial Spanish-style home safe, Conejo's religious rituals make Santeria look like Sunday school. The movie veers into grotesquerie as he prays at an unholy altar for protection in the oncoming turf war, bathing in the blood of a human sacrifice in a room that looks like Keith Haring threw a Dia de los Muertos party.
This might have been lurid fun from a director who didn't take it all so seriously, even if it's in questionable taste at a time when the White House administration has done everything in its power to demonize Latin American immigrants. There's little leeway for dark humor in Ayer's world, though I did get a kick out of Conejo's lady friend Gata (Cheyenne Rae Hernandez). Licking her lips lasciviously, the aptly named feline fiend can lob explosives and rain bullets from a semi-automatic all while skipping about on vertiginous heels. And you don't even want to know about her skills with a hammer. But Gata is a figure out of a Robert Rodriguez grindhouse world stuck in a fundamentally realist realm.
The inevitable faceoff between Conejo's goons and Wizard's is plenty bloody, intercut with Conejo's Satanic prayers. But the sequence feels almost perfunctory, yielding few surprises for a director with the sinewy action command Ayer has shown in the past. Pretty much everything that follows becomes both predictable and a little too easy as David musters all his force to protect what's most precious to him, calling on help from the leader of a Bloods gang (Cle Sloan) in his showdown with Conejo.
Earlier scenes have sketched in David's strategic ability to accrue loyalty as well as the humanity he shows when one gang rep's payment shortfall is explained by the medical expenses of his chronically ill daughter. But Ayer seems to be laboring under the misapprehension that the family-oriented gangster is something new in movies, along with the conflicted cycle of intergenerational violence. When blood-drenched David starts spouting hackneyed dialogue like "For my family, I live. For my family, I die. For my family, I kill," it's hard to stifle a groan. And the incorporation of the Zen aspects of Jiu Jitsu into his climactic fight is too flimsy to add anything.
Ayer drives the action along efficiently enough to the churning dread of Michael Yezerski's score. But there's too little depth to make you care about the characters and too little imagination at work to make The Tax Collector pay.

Rumple
Welcome to my second TED Talk
.hahaha sure to get me in trouble with so many people. This is even more loaded than Ruby. How I feel about this character?I mourn Rumple and all his potential because there was so much there. So many things that could have been done. All of it was wasted for what felt like a whispy teenager soap opera that had no real merit or consequence. Because deep down
I did like Rumplestiltskin. I hated his fans with a deep passion because they wanted to turn this interesting character into a defanged whimpering whisper of what Robert Carlyle actually gave us. Rumplestiltskin was this interesting “universal glue” who kept popping up everywhere to make everything work as the strangest deus ex machina storytelling device that worked
And he worked very well because he was established early on, established to have a certain set of powers, motive, and even a few limits. This was really great! We had some rules so we couldn’t go into the realm of the over powered mary sue! That was fantastic! Rumple was realistic as a powerful character and the fact his interests were aligning with certain groups at the time? Hey, we had a real neutral character! And then by S3 we had to jam on the breaks cause “Wow what do we do when we remove all drive for Rumplestiltskin since he has Belle and we killed Neal?””I dunno! No idea!”It was infuriating because had all of this been drawn out and everyone focused on different aspects of Rumplestiltskin rather than mashing him and Belle together like that scene in Space Balls , we could have had something that was worthwhile and not like some drastic whiplash from S1 that really doesn’t make sense considering the trauma of Neverland and Oz then
.pretty much everything else. There’s trauma and then just using a character because you’re bound to pay that person since they’re still under contract and “well the viewers love them and we want money”.Rumplestiltskin is a victim of “too much, too soon”, and fans who tried to demand too much and realized way too late that maybe Rumple needed slower reveals. All the people I ship romantically with this character:By default I have to say Belle, even though I hated what Rumbelle became in the final seasons. It needed work. Both Rumple and Belle felt like they were hurting each other in ways that made no sense given the previous seasons. I’d detail in depth, but that’s not the point of these little evaluations, is it? Also I’d need to make an entire blog to contain every single moment evaluated to show each action and which character does what. It’s a lot.In the end I still have to give it to Rumbelle even though I wanted a lot more for it.I ship no one else romantically with this character. I especially do not ship Milah with Rumple. Sorry if that rustles jimmies. I am disabled. The behavior Milah displays around Rumple is abusive. Despite what some people may tell you on tumblr, ableism is offensive and acting in this way towards a person is abusive. You really can’t escape abuse in OUAT which boggles the hell out of me. When Milah engages in her acts of spousal abuse and ableism, it’s enough to make me go grab my inhaler because it really is how disturbing just how close and realistic her microaggressions are and how much they build up. There’s another scene in OUAT that sends me into this state, but Milah is in the second place position. Bolded because if you’re angry about my thoughts on Milah, maybe go read up on disability, ableism, and how couples treat disabled spouses after they’ve become disabled. It’s a huge topic and one that people don’t talk about. Considering I’m most likely to be abused by a loved one and that person will always be my spouse, it’s a healthy fear to have. Milah is that walking boogeyman. My non-romantic OTP for this character:I love Archie’s interactions with Gold. I love Henry’s interactions with Gold, especially in the “deleted” scene where Henry seeks Gold out to talk about Regina’s isolating him after Robin’s death. Honestly, Rumple needed to have more casual scenes with other characters because Robert Carlyle plays very well with other actors.Shots fired? Because Robert Carlyle acts in circles around Lana Parrilla, it often left her scenes seeming very childish and immature. It made the forced romance (it was Regina sexually assaulting Gold because he didn’t consent unless he was trying to get something form her but okay) even more uncomfortable due to her inability to stop yelling in an uncontrolled manner. Where Carlyle can channel and keep himself calm (or hell, any of the cast because I’d be redundant), it made pairing him with Lana a very poor choice very often. Why wasn’t Gold/Rumple utilized with other characters more? He was paired with the one-offs or guest characters fairly often, but never with anyone but Regina. This really did make the scenes look awkward. I’m saying that as an actor who has been trained to know what to look for. I noticed. It looks bad on the writer and director. My unpopular opinion about this character:I hate this strange Rumplestiltskin that people try to promote that’s weirdly romantic and mushy. I remember when there was an app on Facebook for Once Upon a Time and the Dearies RIOTED because Rumple wrote a letter to Belle shortly after the flashback events of Skin Deep. it was raw and very in character. He hated her but he loved her and knew that if he lost his powers, he couldn’t protect people he cared about. It was a good letter. The “Dearies” rioted until Adam and Eddy apologized and changed the app to have a letter that included instructions on “How to Use a Toaster”.Toaster Rumple is a Rumple I don’t want to exist and anyone who prefers Toaster Rumple? Butter my toast. One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:I want to fix everything about Rumple. From S2 and onward. Finding Neal so soon/intertwining Baelfire’s plot with Emma’s/giving Regina a happy ending ruined Rumplestiltskin as a character. That’s VERY shots fired. I’m going to get unfollowed immediately for that and I don’t know if I should be happy about that or what
Baelfire needed to remain independent. The key to Emma and the Charmings was how Rumple manipulated the curse caster to get to A Land Without Magic and was counting on Emma to break the curse. That’s where it stops for the big involvement. Baelfire should have remained as Rumple’s own plot and for something to keep driving himself that he could eventually invite people into as he slowly became comfortable with others. But the worst of it truly is Regina. Rumple often warned Regina about her own morality and while that seemed hypocritical of her, he wasn’t wrong. As the series went along, she never actually changed her ways and we were introduced to a growing body count to her name that complimented S1â€Čs rape, child abuse, various instances of inflicting bodily harm (some with the intent to murder), and so much I’ve lost track of. Having this person being handed a crown while Rumple gets a death so he can be “united with Belle” but he gets a kiss from the woman he was never interested in but continued her incredibly predatory advances?Yeah no. But Regina can’t have that ending unless you get rid of the one reminding her “All Magic Comes with a Price.” I guess that price was getting rid of the person saying that magic might cost your morality. A Mary Sue Palooza!

Non-OUAT Whumpers
Most of the whump collected on this blog takes place on the show Once Upon a Time. The Whumpers responsible for these incidents are collected on this blog’s Official Whumpers Page for your amusement.
However, this blog also collects whump from Colin’s other work, as well as humorous “bestings” from real life when appropriate. Those “whumpers” will be collected on this post, also for your amusement ;)
Incidentally, while the Official Whumpers List is listed by character names, this list is organized by the name of the actor/actress playing the role. There’s no reason for this, other than it amuses me.
Amy Huberman Irish actress. Played Conor’s friend Daisy in The Clinic. Entirely angsty bestings here, as Daisy is the cause of a lot of Conor’s emotional upheavals throughout his time on the show.
Anthony Hopkins Academy Award winning actor. Played Father Lucas in The Rite. All kinds of whump here. Father Lucas brings about angst, delivers lectures, manhandles him, attempts to possess, and even throws Michael Kovak across the room.
Antonia Campbell-Hughes Irish actress. Played Shelley in Storage 24. Shelley doesn’t really do much to Mark throughout this film, but near the end, after everything he’s done to his friends... she gives him a sound slap.
Bad Fashion Choices Let’s be real, it’s mostly just that fucking shirt. This one also has a lot of Killian Jones bestings, as there was the diving suit, the white tuxedo, the Dark One robe that offended him, that hair bow, and various other questionable fashions in that show. There’s also some lovely fandom contributions of Killian/Colin being bested with bad fashion. And, of course, plenty of that buzz cut and that fucking shirt.
Bathroom Fixtures Seen in every bathroom in every home around the world. Usually, bathroom fixtures are useful. Sometimes, not so much.
Bel Powley English actress. Played Carrie Pilby in the movie of the same name. Carrie doesn’t really whump Professor Harrison, but near the end of the film, she does bring her father over to his house - and the two of them invade his home, her father punches him in the face, and Carrie mocks him.
Berserkers A crazy band of murderers found in What Still Remains. The Berserkers are at war with Peter’s commune in the film, and near the end of it, they attack and annihilate the commune entirely, burning it to the ground.
Bikers Random ruffians found in 2004â€Čs Love Is the Drug. LITD’s Peter goes up against some badass biker dudes to defend the guy his sister’s with. It doesn’t go well, and he gets punched in the face. As usual.
Camera Angles Found in everything, everywhere. Stupid cameras. Let’s be real, though. It’s mostly just me bitching about leaves.
Cats Adorable furry creatures. Showed up en masse in The Rite. “Make sure they don’t come in,” Lucas said. Spoiler: They all got in.
Chris Carmack American actor. Played Nora’s boyfriend David in The Dust Storm. Near the end of the film, David confronts Nora and Brennan in a bar and punches Brennan in the face, resulting in a pretty big bruise.
Chris Ellis American actor. Played Harvey in What Still Remains. Harvey seems, at first, to be a harmless old man cooking over a campfire in the middle of the day. Unfortunately, his innocent demeanor lures Anna right in - and once she and Peter are close enough, they’re ambushed.
Colin O’Donoghue I think we all know who this guy is. This tag’s not for him getting bested... it’s for when HE bests US.
Cops Police officers. Seen in many films and TV shows. This tag includes some Once Upon a Time whump, but also has Conor Elliott’s arrest in The Clinic.
Demons Evil otherworldly beings. Most famously found in The Rite. This tag covers the demonic goings-on in The Rite, as well as some fandom bestings of Killian Jones being possessed or haunted.
Dorothy Cotter Irish actress. Played Laura in the short film, The Euthanizer. Laura is Ben’s beloved girlfriend, who has left him for unstated reasons. Ben is completely heartbroken by the loss, and turns to suicide.
Feels Seen: Everywhere, in everything. This tag encompasses all those moments when Colin’s character is overcome by emotion - including when that character is Killian Jones.
Finbar Lynch Irish actor. Played Terry in 2005â€Čs Proof 2. The moment is very brief, but Terry does a wonderful job of grabbing Jamie by the lapels and manhandling him.
Frogs More animals, spotted in 2011â€Čs The Rite, besting Michael Kovak. You’ve gotta be fucking kidding him.
Gary Lydon British actor. Played Dr. Patrick Murray on The Clinic. Patrick Murray was Conor Elliott’s therapist, and his poor handling of Conor (and Conor’s condition) contributed to the emotional breakdown that led to Conor setting himself on fire.
Gabriel Byrne Well-known Irish actor. Played Carrie’s father in Carrie Pilby. Carrie’s father invades Professor Harrison’s home and eventually punches him right in the face. In an interview about the film, Colin said, “Who doesn’t want to be punched in the face by Gabriel Byrne?” Indeed.
Giant Alien Monsters Giant. Alien. Monstrous. Starred in 2011â€Čs Storage 24. One thing you can say about these things... they have good taste.
Jeff Kober American actor. Played Zack in What Still Remains. Zack doesn’t whump Peter at all within the film, but as the main driving force behind Peter’s warped world view and the man who orchestrated the abusive environment Peter grew up in, he is instrumental in the trauma that made Peter into the mal-adjusted psycho he undoubtedly is.
Jennifer Morrison American actress. Played Emma Swan in Once Upon a Time. She and Colin like to tease each other at conventions. “By teasing each other, we mean that Jen teases me, is what happens.” We got you, Col.
Josh Dallas American actor. Played Prince Charming in Once Upon a Time. O’Dallas is love. O’Dallas is life.
Keith McErlean Irish actor. Played Dr. Adam in Season 5 of The Clinic. Dr. Adam was Daisy’s boyfriend in Season 5. Conor and Dr. Adam didn’t get along very well, causing much angst... and eventually a blow-up that resulted in some physical aggression.
Kristen Gutoskie Canadian actress. Played Nora in 2016â€Čs The Dust Storm. Brennan’s feelings for Nora (and Nora’s rather unhealthy ways of dealing with her own emotions) cause a lot of conflict and angst throughout the film. She also inflicts physical harm on Brennan near the end of the film, when she burns his arm with a cigarette.
Lana Parrilla American actress. Played Regina Mills in Once Upon a Time. Only adorable bestings need apply <3
Lee Arenberg’s Acting Choices American actor. Played Grumpy in Once Upon a Time. What was he even doing, tho? And why? And what?
Lesley Conroy Irish actress. Played Mandy in the 2003 short film, Call Girl. Mandy comes to Brendan’s house, she makes him nervous, they have sex, she argues with him, she pushes him... umm, yadda yadda yadda?
Lulu Antariksa American actress. Played Anna in What Still Remains. Anna spends more of this film getting whumped by Peter than whumping him, to be honest, but when she does get her whump in... it’s the fatal kind.
Marta Gastini Italian actress. Played Rosaria in 2011â€Čs The Rite. Rosaria is a young woman who is possessed by a demon. Her behavior during a routine exorcism unnerves Michael in the beginning, but eventually escalates to an all-out physical attack where she tries to strangle him.
Mimi Rogers American actress. Played Judith in What Still Remains. Aside from a few awkward hugs and exchanges in the film, Judith doesn’t actually whump Peter on screen. So why is she here? The film hints at long-term sexual and emotional abuse that Peter suffered at the hands of Judith and her husband Zack - abuse that surely shaped Peter into the psycho he is, and a dynamic that adds depth to those awkward encounters.
Noel Clarke British actor. Played Charlie in Storage 24. Charlie is Mark’s best friend when the film begins, though he’s arguably less so as the film progresses and Charlie finds out Mark’s been sleeping with his girl and is the reason said girl broke up with him. There’s an accidental nut-crunch in the beginning, a fight when the betrayal is discovered, and a punch right in the kisser later on.
Others Everyone and Anyone NOT listed here or on the Once Whumpers list. That means everyone. Even you, if you play your cards right.
Pay Phones Apparently, they still had them in Ireland in 2009. In The Euthanizer, Ben has a bit of trouble with one of these.
Robert Carlyle Scottish actor. Played Rumplestiltskin in Once Upon a Time. Full honesty - this is mostly just endless references to that blooper.
Rose Reynolds English actress. Played Alice Jones on Once Upon a Time. Rose and Colin are amazing together <3 Their bestings are the best!
Rutger Hauer Dutch actor. Played Michael Kovak’s father, Istvan, in The Rite. There’s not really much besting shown in the film, but the man made his son Michael help embalm his own mother. If that’s not a fucking besting, I really don’t know what would be.
Sarah Bolger Irish actress. Played Princess Mary in The Tudors. You likely recognize this actress’s name from her role in Once Upon a Time as Princess Aurora, but what lands her on this list is her role as Mary in The Tudors - where she allegedly steps on Duke Phillip’s foot.
The Crew Assorted crew members of assorted projects, including OUAT. ...because everyone likes to tease Colin. It’s an international pastime!
Tobias Jelinek American actor. Played Phillip in What Still Remains. The dystopian world of this film lends itself well to random whumpings from complete strangers. Phillip is one of two men who Anna and Peter run into on their journey who attempt to rob them.
Tommy O’Neill Irish actor. Played the Euthanizer in the short film of the same name. The Euthanizer is originally hired by Ben to help him hang himself... but when Ben changes his mind and decides to live, things turn even whumpier!
This list was last updated on February 5, 2019.

We welcome Melanie Carabosse to the city. She’s 32 years old and is a fashion designer. Mel is often mistaken for Lana Parrilla. She’s open.
→ Background Information
Melanie had it all. She had the career, the home, the fame, the man. Her entire life was perfect. That was until her dear boyfriend Stefan decided that the relationship had to come to an end. The break-up was extremely high profile. Stefan span tales about how cruel and manipulative Melanie had been (despite him having been the manipulative one). So the press ended up turning against Melanie. Her fame was ripped from her. While business was still going, it wasn’t flourishing anywhere near as much as it had been. This downfall caused Melanie to become cold, harsh and untrusting.
→ Living Situation
A large amount of Melanie’s time is spent at her store, The Forbidden Mountain. For this reason, it’s very rare that you’ll find Melanie with a full fridge. She eats out far more than she does at home. Mel see’s her one-place just as somewhere to sleep to be honest. It’s very dark, very moody - And decorated in a lot of purples and blacks. It’s always very neat and tidy. Melanie simply cannot stand mess, or anything being disorganized. There are the occasional pictures of her family, but she doesn’t really talk to them much.
→ Relocation Explanation
The moment Melanie found out about the existence of Aurora, she had her eyes set on getting revenge on Stefan that way. A restraining order made it difficult for her to get close enough to him to get away with anything. A loophole in the order though meant she still could get access to Aurora. The most severe thing Melanie has ever planned was the faulty car that Aurora would be travelling home in from school one day. A car accident resulted in Aurora’s injury, and she was subsequently sent away by her parents. Something drew Melanie to Aurora and she knew she couldn’t just brush her hands off and be done with the whole thing. So, she followed.
→ Her Personality
An adjective that comes to the minds of most when they meet Melanie is smart. She’s incredibly intelligent. It’s easy for her to figure out how to get exactly what she wants. Mel’s silver tongue has always meant that there was absolutely no need for her to lie and deceive people. Everything she does is completely above the board (most of the time). Melanie holds herself with such elegance and confidence. It’s hard not to be intimidated by her. There’s a look in her eye that says she always knows the right answer. Even if she didn’t know the right answer, you’re likely to believe her anyway.
→ Her Qualities
Intelligent, elegant, influential, assertive
Vengeful, calculating, devious, ruthless
→ Her Relationships
Phillip Bakker (Enemy): With a keen eye for anyway she can torture Aurora, obviously getting to the love interest seemed like a logical route. Melanie has absolutely no clue about who Phillip is. All she does know is that because he’s associated with Aurora, he’s also on her shit list.
Aurora Florestan (Enemy): The moment Melanie found out that Stefan and Leah had a child, everything became clear. She knew her aim from the start. Melanie wants to ruin her life in anyway possible. Seeing as she can no longer get access to Stefan and Leah’s lives, the next best thing is to ruin their daughter’s.
Iracebeth Marmoreal (Friend): Melanie would have never imagined finding someone she could genuinely be friends with. But, that happened when Melanie bumped into Iracebeth in the toilets on the night out. They initially argued over bumping into each other but now the pair are a real double act. If any man were to be a target of the both of them, he should run and hide.
→ Possible Connections
Jane Merryweather, Fauna Fernadell & Flora Luzan (Enemy): Anyone who has anything to do with Aurora or is friends with Aurora, is probably hated by Melanie. While she doesn’t know much of Jane, Fauna and Flora, if she were to become aware of them - Melanie would probably be after them and their lives too.
Owen Bogie (Friend): Attending events is a normal part of Melanie’s routine now. She’s inevitably ended up at one or two hosted by Owen Bogie. They’re both very determined and harsh people, and would likely get along well.
Melanie is based on Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty.

2018 Year in Review
Rules: answer the questions about 2018 and tag some people!
Thank you for tagging me, @earlgreyteagirl! Maybe this will remind me what happened this year, because I don’t remember a thing! I’m gonna try to do this strictly with things/media that were released/happened this year.
Top 5 films you watched in 2018:
Bohemian Rhapsody
Crazy Rich Asians
Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again!
Black Panther
Game Night (don’t @ me, this movie is a gift that keeps on giving)
Top 5 TV shows in 2018:
The Good Place
Jane the Virgin
Charmed (2018)
Young Sheldon
One Day at a Time
Top 5 songs of 2018:
Make Me Feel- Janelle Monae (the Bisexual Anthem)
Familiar- Liam Payne and J. Balvin
Azukita- Steve Aoki
I Like It- Cardi B (don’t judge me)
Fernando as performed by Cher
(I mostly listen to carefully curated music not from this year, so this isn’t necessarily a representative sample of my taste)
Top 5 3 Books you Read in 2018:
Smoke and Iron- Rachel Caine
The Gods Themselves- Isaac Asimov (obviously not from 2018, but what is reading books anymore?)
a neurobased self-help book whose title escapes me, but whose contents helped me
If you asked me about my top 5 scientific papers of 2018 or books that I’d reread, this would be a very different conversation.
Five Good/Positive things that happened to you in 2018:
I finally took control of my mental health. It took several months and a few medical professionals, but I finally got the help I needed to function and see that everything isn’t as dark as I thought.
I reaffirmed my decision to pursue becoming an educator as an end goal. Teaching is my greatest passion and strength (does that sound conceited?). I was fortunate enough to work at my dream job 3 times this semester, and I had an especially wonderful experience this fall with my students.
I had the opportunity to do some traveling. I visited @therubbleoroursins in June and we. Met. Lana. (Lana Parrilla, for the uninitiated) which is something I never realistically thought would happen, but it was wonderful and I only blacked out for a few minutes. I also got the chance to see my favorite person again for the first time in over a year, and proudly claim my status as her favorite person as well (though she’s gotten finicky, but in her defense, she’s a toddler).
I came to terms with my sexuality and found a group of people who are loving and supportive of me. Thank you all for that. <3
I started asking for the help and support that I need as a person and have learned how to not give a fuck (I hope this doesn’t come off sounding badly, but a lot of times, you really do just need to not give a fuck).
2018 was what I refer to as my phoenix year. I started in the ashes, but I rose from the flames stronger and better.
Tagging @therubbleoroursins, @onceuponanevilangel, @delovelie, @joym13, @calmskiesfierynights, and anyone who’d like to do this!

Once Upon a Time stars Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas talk the end of an era
Tumblr media
x
Josh Dallas stands in front of a massive war room table, his Prince Charming rallying the troops in a last-ditch effort to prevent a great evil from stealing their happy endings. A combination of old guard and new from Once Upon a Time’s seven-season run sits before him.
“A new generation has joined the fight,” Dallas says in his most Charming tenor, nodding in the direction of Alice (Rose Reynolds), Robin (Tiera Skovbye), Henry (Andrew J. West), and Ella (Dania Ramirez). “Enemies have become friends,” he continues, looking to Regina (Lana Parrilla) and Zelena (Rebecca Mader). Charming concludes by addressing the presence of Wish Realm Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) as a new friend who feels like an old one. Once Upon a Time is days away from completing production on the final episode of the series, but everyone has gathered for his and real-life wife Ginnifer Goodwin’s final day on set.
The moment is charged as Charming reveals they’ve uncovered final villain Wish Realm Rumplestiltskin’s (Robert Carlyle) ultimate plan. Goodwin’s Snow White signals the Black Knights to bring in a stack of personalized storybooks — but so does Charming. They’re both trying to have their characters take the lead. When Dallas also does the signal during their third take of the scene, Goodwin can’t help but break character, ribbing her husband: “You can’t not do that, can you?” Mader cuts in with a laugh: “That’s called marriage.”
While OUAT has depicted Snow and Charming’s epic love story since the show’s launch in 2011, fans also got to watch their portrayers fall in love. The duo, who began dating while filming the show, got married in April 2014. They welcomed their first child a month later and their second in June 2016. Though Goodwin and Dallas left the show at the end of season 6, the two will return for the upcoming series finale, which airs over two weeks starting this Friday and concluding May 18. EW hit the set on the couple’s final day of filming to talk about the show’s legacy. [Editor’s note: The interviews took place separately, but were stitched together.]
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: As you head into your final day of production, how are you feeling right now? GINNIFER GOODWIN: Oh my gosh, I’m a mess. Leaving a show was a really tough decision, but one that we spent years making.
It involved a lot of discussing child rearing with our showrunners, because we really wanted to be spending more time with the kids. We really needed to start Ollie in school — we had gotten him into a school in Los Angeles. But anyways, we had decided that that was what was best for our family. Though a difficult decision, it was one that we were very confident about. We left celebrating. I realized in coming back and having had the show decide to tell its final story in this final episode, that I had always counted on this show as being here — I always counted on my being able to return, sort of like when we all go off to college, we know that home is still home. Now knowing that home is being obliterated, as it were, that the sets will be torn down, I’ve been really overly emotional. I have been crying for the past 24 hours. It doesn’t help that the scenes, of which we are part, are classic Once Upon a Time scenes. They’re inspiring. The word “hope” is batted around an awful lot, so it is very nostalgic feeling. I’m definitely mourning the loss. I wish that it could just go on forever and that we always knew that it would be here when we’re homesick.
JOSH DALLAS: It feels surreal to be back, but also wonderful. I’m so grateful that I was part of the fabric of Once Upon a Time, a show that seemed to touch a chord in so many people and had a fan base that is so passionate, so smart, so vocal, and so willing to go along on the ride with us. It will always be a great thrill in my life that I was part of Once Upon a Time, and I got to play this character, and hopefully show a different side of this character to people, and show you things that you didn’t know about him. And hopefully, the show inspired. It’s a show about hope and it’s a show about how it’s your actions that define who you are. You’re not either all good or all bad. It’s about your choices that make your character. Saying goodbye to it is bittersweet, but I’m so grateful.
Ginnifer, what does it mean to you to have had a strong female character like Snow White brought into a new era? GOODWIN: It’s amazing that, honestly, these guys wrote a truly female-driven show. I mean, they began years before we joined the fray in 2011. It was instrumental then in my choosing to take part. I was coming off of a female-heavy show [Big Love]. I was coming off of a show that was written in which the roles for women were very strong, but to come on to a show that was female-driven, and by the way written by men, was important to me. The way that women were depicted in this show, it was brave of the men to write them so bravely. It’s wild to me, also in the current climate, in talking about television, that it hasn’t been highlighted that Once Upon A Time has always done this. [Showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis] both come from very strong relationships with very strong women. Those have been definitely celebrated on screen in their writing.
Can you talk about the oddity of playing Jennifer Morrison’s mother for years when you’re basically the same age? GOODWIN: Yeah, I know. There’s always sort of this safety net of, “We are fairy-tale characters, and therefore we are ageless.” Colin’s character, Hook, is supposed to be — I don’t remember how old — hundreds of years? Rumple is hundreds and hundreds of years. In that way, in justifying it in character, it’s always sort of made sense that we could be so similar in look and in spirit. As an actor, we’ve only really felt old in realizing that this next generation that we’re representing today really did graduate from college like a minute ago, like they really could be our children. That’s what’s made us feel old.
And Josh, what has it meant to you to play Prince Charming? DALLAS: It’s meant everything to me. It changed my life as well as other people’s lives, our fans’ lives. It’s meant everything to me. It did change my life and helped create my family, my own family at home. Like I said, I’m just forever grateful to be part of it.
What do you think it was about Once Upon a Time that made it last this long? GOODWIN: The show is so optimistic, while being really realistic. These characters were all extraordinary, but we can see ourselves in them. I think that the part of us that wants to escape, can. We can disappear into their stories. I feel like everyone can find not just one, but probably several characters that they relate to, and whom they would want to be. But at the same time, these characters are really flawed and messy. I think that their feelings are so universal. Yeah, it’s that relatability. I love extraordinary stories that are full of really relatable characters. Who knew that fairy-tale characters could be relatable in any way?
What do you think Once Upon a Time’s legacy will be? DALLAS: I think it will be a show that preached hope. I think that’s the legacy.
GOODWIN: Oh my gosh. Well, I like to think that it was the first of its kind. At the time that we made the pilot, no one was doing anything like this. And I feel like it even pre-empted the swashbuckling princesses on the big screen. It was so new. And I hope that it’s remembered as being groundbreaking. And I hope, as we’re discussing, that it’s remembered as being representative of the strongest kinds of complex and beautiful women. And I hope that there is enough love for the show that we do reunion specials along the way.
What was the most poignant fan interaction you’ve had because of this show? DALLAS: There really has been so many. I’ve been so humbled and grateful that there have been so many. Many people coming up saying how Once got them through a rough time or how it inspired them to love better, to hate better, to do everything better, and to know that they’re not alone. I’ve heard that from several different people. Those are always memorable.
GOODWIN: I feel like, more than it being about anything that’s been said, having fans not just come to Comic-Con, but show up in Vancouver on location dressed as our characters, has been truly amazing to me. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and the fact that people relate to it to that extent I find to be powerful. The show’s been fun, and it has been meaningful to me because of what I’ve gotten from the scripts, and also because of the relationships that I have formed on set. The fact is that my entire real life has blossomed because of this show. Early on, to see that the show meant that much, that people went to that extent in representing the characters, made me really take what we’re doing here more seriously. And then, I could not respect more that the creators also took that seriously and really have listened to the fans over the years, and really have written the show for the fans. I don’t think I’ve ever been part of something where there was that kind of focus. I mean, there’s always been a need, obviously, to draw in viewers. And I don’t mean monetarily, I mean just in general what we do, we want people to need us. We need to be needed. But to have a show that’s written on or of the public, I find to be really special.
Do you have any regrets about leaving the show when you did? DALLAS: No. None at all, none at all. It’s always worked out. It’s worked out the way that I hoped it would. I’m forever grateful for our time on it, and when we left, it was time. It was time for us to go.
How would you describe the finale and how it compares to past OUAT season enders? DALLAS: The series finale compared to all the other finales is special because it is the last one, and it’s emotional like true Once Upon a Time style, but it’s also satisfying because it again comes full circle and ties everything together. I think it will leave our viewers and our fans so happy that they invested their time and their hearts into watching our show.
GOODWIN: I will say that, for the Evil Queen, there is a definitive change in this episode in what she really reveals she has learned, what she has taken to heart. I find it to be so powerful that I cried. That’s part of why I cried all through yesterday.
What brings Snow and Charming back into the fold? DALLAS: They get a message that Henry is in a tight situation and needs some help, so they do what any great grandparents would do that know how to use a sword and a bow and arrow, and they come to help out. They come to help out and rally the troops.
GOODWIN: I will say that I don’t really know what they’ve been up to. I mean, they’ve been in retirement. I think there have been a lot of lazy Sundays. What we do see is longer Snow hair. We don’t really know what has happened to them, but we know that they have gotten the message that they are needed, and they have answered the call.
How do you feel about the ending for your characters and how it comes full circle to the beginning of the series? GOODWIN: The pitch for the whole show was, “What would a world look like in which the Evil Queen got her happy ending?” And we feel that we’ve finally figured out what that would look like. Josh and I talked in the few minutes we were still awake after yesterday, we talked and talked about what an honor it was to be part of her happy ending. It was beyond satisfying. It was emotional, it was thrilling. It was dreamy. It’s where we always hoped it would go, but it has taken the Evil Queen
like her journey has been so dramatic. That circle has been so dramatic and she’s gone so far, she’s grown so much, that to see the fruits of the writers’ labors was really satisfying. I can’t imagine the fans won’t gobble it up.
DALLAS: It was really emotional, actually. The story began with Snow and the Evil Queen and Charming. We’re ending it with Snow, the Evil Queen, and Charming. The idea that Regina gets her happy ending is really emotional, that it’s finally come full circle, [it shows that] you just gotta keep at it and you have to keep believing.
GOODWIN: I love that the ending is open-ended. I feel that even our coming back just exemplifies the fact that nothing is ever over. Despite my devastation that we are ending the show in general, I do feel like we’re leaving it in a way that we could do those specials we discussed, that we could come back in five years, in 10 years, and revisit this. I fantasize about a special miniseries we could do — streaming, I don’t know. I think the revisitation is appropriate. This is the epitome of a Once Upon a Time episode, this is an old-school, nostalgic Once Upon a Time episode.
Can you talk about the importance of sending a message that anyone can get a happy ending? DALLAS: I think it’s so important to send that message, particularly in this day and age when we have so much negative-seeming in the world, and to know that you do have a second chance, that you can have redemption, is super-powerful. I think if you go through life and you don’t believe you can do that, it’s pretty bleak. I feel like Once Upon a Time can shine a little bit of lightness in the dark.
GOODWIN: I just know it to be true. I am dead-certain that Snow White is right, that hope is the magical ingredient in the potion. That is, everyone can find love, everyone can find happiness. Dreams are achievable. And the hope speech in the pilot, Mary Margaret’s hope speech, was what sealed the deal for me in the first place.
What are you doing to take away from this experience? DALLAS: Total gratitude.
Do you have a different affinity for fairy-tale characters after your experiences on OUAT? GOODWIN: My fairy-tale affinity/Disneyphilia is probably a bit stronger. It was part of the appeal in the first place because I love that whole world, these whole worlds. But yeah, I would say that it definitely hasn’t burned me out, it’s definitely fed the addiction.
If you could open up a new chapter of Once Upon a Time 10 years later, what would you want it to be about? GOODWIN: Yes! Well, we’ve been joking about the line Charming has today about the new generation that’s joined the fray, and we do have an opportunity, because of our agelessness — though it has made us feel very old today, that line. I’d like to think that we would be able to because all of the realms represent generation after generation after generation of magically infused beings. Yeah, just keep introducing more. I mean, I would love to have Snow White come back and fight alongside her great-great-granddaughter.
DALLAS: I hope there’s more adventures. I hope there’s just more adventures and these characters still keep trying to figure life out. I think that never ends for anybody, not just these characters, just anybody. You’re always trying to figure it out. I hope they still are pushing forward and they’re still growing and they’re still going on adventures.
You both have pilots in contention for the fall — Josh on NBC’s Manifest and Ginnifer on ABC’s Steps. GOODWIN: Yes, I cannot leave the Disney company, obviously. I did a play after we wrapped last year, after Once Upon a Time wrapped. And then my husband and I both took the fall off, and the winter, and we both just shot pilots, and mine is again with ABC. This one shoots in Los Angeles, which was the vital thing for us as a family in terms of keeping our kids in school, and why we left the show last year in the first place. So yes, ABC found for me yet again a magical life on another ABC show.
Once Upon a Time’s series finale will air over two weeks, kicking off this Friday at 8 p.m. ET and concluding Friday, May 18, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

6. is it hard for you to get over someone?: I’m still not over Tony and Ziva and the shitty ending they got... So I guess it depends on the situation. 7. what was your life like last year?: Shit because well it was. Maybe it was better then 2016?? Uhh still not sure how 2017 was for me. 8. have you ever cried because you were so annoyed?: Yes. And it’s the worse thing ever. 9. who did you last see in person?: Uhh like friends? Family? Last time I saw people I hang out with was Jan 1st. I’m a loner guys. 10. are you good at hiding your feelings?: I must be because I’m deep in the closet. đŸ˜‚đŸ€·đŸœâ€â™€ïž Just kidding. Yeah I’m usually good at it because I hate getting emotional in front on my mom. 11. are you listening to music right now?: So originally when I answered these I was listening to the “Your lie in April” soundtrack. Right now though I’m not. 12. what is something you want right now?: Jeffree Star Make up (well make up in general), pizza, more coffee, salty chips, another season of little witch academia... a lot of things I guess. None of which I need though. 13. how do you feel right now?: Originally when I answered this it was Sad. Like really sad. About life in general (well mostly at my mom but đŸ€·đŸœâ€â™€ïž). Uh now I’m just... sad still I guess? Maybe like... I don’t want to be here right now, I wanna go here and be happy feeling. Does this make sense? 14. when was the last time someone of the opposite sex hugged you?: Uhhh awhile ago? Yeah definitely awhile ago. Maybe in November I did? I’m a person. I bite my tongue often enough not to mess up about anything. I’ve don’t it because it would ruin the relationship I have with someone. But I’m also honest when the time comes to say shit. 17. opinion on insecurities.: They real and I believe eventually we all can get over them. For years my parents always told me I’m to sensitive and for years I believed them and hated it. Now? I agree I’m sensitive very much so but that doesn’t mean it a bad thing. It means I’m passionate, I love to hard, I’m easily provoked, I cry about everything. It shows I’m human and that it can hurt me or help me grow. I’m sensitive and although I struggle with being okay with it because of my parents I accept that I am. 18. do you miss how thing were a year ago?: Lol can’t miss it when the same shit is happening to you... actually I miss high school. (Christmas Present) or maybe going somewhere else... not sure yet. It changes a lot. 44. age you get mistaken for: Either a few years younger or a few years older (I’m 20 now). This kid at a camp I work had said I was like 38 and I was so offended like HOW?! But it was a good laugh. 45. how you found out about your idol: A little 7th grader started watching NCIS religiously and fell in love with (or something like that I love CdP so much) the Israeli beauty called Ziva David then found out the actress is called the one and only Cote de Pablo. A high school girl who started watching OUAT because her friend suggested it and her dash was full it saw the Evil Queen and immediately knew she was going to like Regina Mills who she found out was played by the amazing Lana Parrilla. A girl looking for a TV show to watch heads over to Criminal Minds because her cousin suggested it to her. There she came face to face with Emily Prentiess the kick ass FBI agent with a interesting past. She found out that one of New favorite special agents was played by Paget Brewster. (Just adding these three cause I’m lazy but guess what queen I’m missing!)46. what my last text message says: It says “Ok” because my mom pissed me off yet again. Not surprised. (I’ve had three people adopt me all around the same age all me. I’m looking for an adult older then me to please adopt me too. 😂)47. turn ons: Uhhhhh....uhhhh. What? Dimples I like those and... green/blue eyes.... umm nice smiles? 48. turn offs: Don’t be a asshole okay?

This Chapter
So...I wasn’t going to make this post. I was just going to end this blog the way I started it and leave it at that. But, Tumblr has been sort of a chapter in my life and I think I do need to make this post.
Many of you probably don’t know this but this blog of mine started out in 2013 as a Castle blog.
It was at a time in my life when I was depressed-looking back I think I had a full on mental break- and figuring out what I was going to do with my life next. I had a lot on my plate academically, I still do, but at that time I was in transition, so to speak, and looking for something to distract me from the academic stress causing my depression.
I found Castle, the TV Show. I told myself I’d give it 5 episodes, but in the end I was sold after 1. As with all the things I love, I then wanted to talk about it. I did on a forum, but didn’t enjoy it, until I met @writingonthecastlewalls there and she pretty much introduced me to the wonderful, more positive, world of Tumblr. You wouldn’t think spending time on a website could be a journey, but it has been for me and one I’m eternally grateful for.  For the past 4 years Tumblr has been a constant in this forever changing life of mine. I’ve especially loved discussing the things, especially the shows, I love with other, interesting, positive, respectful, opinionated people.
It mostly started with Castle and after Castle ended it shifted to Once Upon a Time. Now my blog is a full fledged Once Upon a Time(OUAT) blog. Even though I have talked about pretty much every show, movie and anything else that captured my attention on it.
My url is the only real indicator left that I come from the Castle fandom, although strictly OUAT fans may not realize it given it has “fairytale” in it.
It’s actually from the episode “The Blue Butterfly” on Castle. Where after Beckett and Castle a.k.a. Caskett discover a P.I’s diary, Castle re-imagines the decades-old love story found within its pages with Beckett and himself as the main characters. Lanie, Beckett’s best friend, is cast in the role of the singer covering for Beckett, when she’s almost caught cheating on her mob boss boyfriend with the P.I., Castle.
Lanie basically asks Beckett whether their love is worth it and Beckett says yes. Saying “He’s the cream in my coffee.” a reference to Castle’s way of telling her he loved her for years before he actually said it.
And Lanie’s response is “You’re a walking fairytale, good lord.” which became my url.
Yesterday, OUAT’s season 7 started. I haven’t watched the season premiere and don’t plan to any time soon. I thought I would because I’m a huge Lana Parrilla fan and I have loved the show, but now I realize that I simply don’t want to. At least not at this point.
My feelings on the show haven’t changed and yet they have. I still think it’s a love story about Swan Queen and their beautiful son. I still expect them to happen. Part of me thinks they already have, then grew apart and Once Upon a Time is really a love story about them finding their way back to each other. But I also don’t think I care enough to stick around for it anymore. At least not on a weekly basis.
On Castle the writers made Caskett happen when it did because they said it didn’t feel right, honest, to drag it out any longer. That is part of what Once Upon a Time did wrong, I think. They waited too long, at least in my opinion. And didn’t address the wait at all like was done on Castle. And I’m not sure any ending they may give us in the future could ever make up for that. But to me, the other, way worse thing they did is presenting a heterosexual abusive relationship as a dream come true, something to aspire to have, complete in a musical on a show that draws from Disney fairytales, the current foundation of everyone’s childhood and a company that has evolved into something that actually produces content that teaches children morals. It’s not something I support.
But I’ve still learned a lot about myself through this show. Or more by discussing it with people on Tumblr and reading what they had to say. It’s been a way for me to reflect on my own life, something I never expected it to help me do. I started it simply expecting it to represent everything I love about Disney, from the uplifting messages to the standard love story between a man and a woman of old. And I ended it believing two women, Swan Queen, to be the love story. I think I’ll always ship Swan Queen. And watching The L Word has made me believe even more that Emma and Regina’s relationship probably was and will be romantic since I’m convinced that the writers used Bette and Tina (and in lesser quantity probably Jenny and Shane) from The L Word to model Emma and Regina after. From their characterization to their story line and even costuming, when it comes to Bette and Regina, I see Once Upon a Time in part as its writers’ interpretation of The L Word’s in-world book, Lez Girls based on the actual show, adapted for TV and focused on Bette and Tina re-imagined. And just like on The L Word, the in-world book on OUAT detailing the actual show is written by a in-world character. Even the name of half of OUAT’s world, “The Enchanted Forest”, is mentioned by Rachel Shelley’s character, Helena, on The L Word to her children as the name of a toy store.
Having said that, it should also be noted that I personally don’t believe Bette and Tina on The L Word are right for each other. It’s obvious that they love each other more than life itself and they refuse to be happy without each other. And that makes part of me ship them together. But they’re not happy with each other either. They keep growing apart due to lack of communication and hurting each other, disrespecting, lying to and cheating on each other only to inevitably be drawn to each other again. Finding each other again. But to me that doesn’t mean they belong together. Which really begs the question whether Emma and Regina belong together. Although they may use alter egos and such to do it, just like Bette and Tina they hurt each other in very significant and unnecessary ways. And I’d like to believe that if you really and truly love someone, that translates to respect for them as well and you find a way to put that love and respect for the other person into action. I’d like to think that there’s hope for Swan Queen though. Since unlike with Bette and Tina who seem to repeat the same destructive behaviors without fail or the slightest change, I do notice growth in Swan Queen.
But in the end, I watch TV mostly for my enjoyment and lately I’ve found that I simply haven’t enjoyed OUAT. So, for now at least, I won’t be a weekly spectator of it. Maybe I’ll revisit that decision at some point. But today is not that day. And since my main reason for keeping this blog at this point is now non-existent and just in case I ever do want to come back to the show, I think it’s a good idea to leave Tumblr now.
Thank you all for making my experience here wonderful. And if I leave you with anything it’s to always do what you love and love what you do. Life’s too short for anything else. :)

OUAT/CE Convention Guidelines/Tips/Advice
Hi, everyone! So, a lot of convention newbies have been asking me for tips, and advice surrounding conventions mostly focused on OUAT cons/Creation Entertainment hosted ones lately and I decided to make an entire post about it to save me time and to help other people who don’t ask or are too shy to! Basically, a Dummies Guide to Conventions. If you have any further questions, please reach out to me! I would love to help you have a better experience! I'm going to go over a couple of different things here, as detailed and thorough as possible, just based on my experiences. I also shared my personal packing list. I hope you find some of this useful/helpful, and if not, I hope I’ve managed to make you smile or even giggle at some points!
1. Scheduling and Preparation:
Firstly, I always compare conventions to concerts. If you've ever been to a concert and/or a meet-n-greet or signing, I like to think cons work similar to that. Mostly because I went to my first convention with no idea of how things worked, and because I've been to so many concerts/signings/m&gs, I was fine. I looked at conventions as if the panels are the concerts and the photo ops and autographs are the m&gs.
You should be following the schedule. Creation usually releases the schedule the Wednesday before the convention, so you'll have several days to figure out what all you're doing. I always, always go over it and plan out what I'm going to do, how much time I'll have in between events and sometimes, if events are overlapping, you have to pick and choose, do one thing one day and another thing on a different day. If you're attending for just one day, sometimes you might just have to go about what you want to do more, find a way to make it all happen without stretching yourself too thin or ask a volunteer or official Creation employee for help. I always create my own schedule at home and make a list and follow it.
2. Be on Time, Be Prepared:
For panels, photo ops and autographs, any event taking place, I always recommend getting there five minutes before hand. I can't tell you how many photo ops I've almost missed out on because I saw the photo op was running until a certain time and decided I'd show up in the middle of it. It does not matter what time it is scheduled to start and end. Sometimes it starts as soon as the celebrity is ready and if there is a line, meaning a matter of a few minutes, it can end earlier in advance, and sometimes it takes forever and goes over time. If you miss it, you miss it, and there's nothing that can be done. I can say off hand, I have nearly missed Colin O’Donoghue’s duo with Chris Gauthier and Sean Maguire’s duo with Rebecca Mader from not being fast enough or waiting until the last minute to get there.
If you have autographs and photo ops at the same time, I always recommend doing the photo op first. Autographs take more time, and you're less likely to miss out on those than what you are with the photo op. If you are unsure, ask a volunteer or Creation employee. If you have autographs that came a part of a package and autographs that didn't, sometimes you need to ask which person you should meet first, and they'll help you and tell you the best thing to do, and they will make sure you get to experience both.
If you are staying in a room at the hotel and need to grab something in between events, always ensure that you have at least fifteen minutes. You need to allow five minutes to get to your room, five minutes to grab what you need, drop stuff off or touch up on something, and five minutes back. If you are hanging out in your room because you have free time, always allow ten minutes to get to where you need to go. I recommend showing up at any of the events five minutes prior, as stated before, to either settle in your seat in the main panel room or to get in line and prepared for your photo-op/autograph. You also need to allow five minutes extra to walk and/or get onto an elevator to get where you need to go. Sometimes hotels and cons are busy, and everyone is trying to get somewhere at once, and you need to wait for a couple of minutes.
If you are carrying around props, autographs, or anything you don't need to have with you the entire day, take your spare time to drop it off in your hotel room or vehicle. I will always double-check my schedule and plan out how much time I'll have in between each activity. Sometimes you need to have certain props for photo ops, and you'll have two panels and three photo ops and one autograph session happening right after the other and won't have the time to run up to your room before that one event. Bring those with you, and when you have a break, take them back up to your room and exchange them with whatever you need for the next chunk of activities. You'd be surprised at how heavy even the smallest thing can feel after you've been carting it around for hours.
I always recommend attending the night before/early check in. That way, you can sleep in longer, you have what you need and won't have to worry about a thing during the actual convention days. I also recommend buying or swapping out any autographs or photo op tickets then and there, so you don't have to worry about it. Sometimes lines are very long the day of, and you just don't have enough time for it. It gets very stressful. If you see any merchandise, you like and really want to have, buy it. You never know if it'll still be available the next time you check. I especially recommend this for any extra photo-ops or autograph tickets, t-shirts, or autograph prints. Also, if there is something you need or want to get your hands on and there is no line, take advantage of that! Lines can go on forever, and you don't want to waste time standing in it then eventually having to leave because there's something else going on that you need/want to attend.
This is also good for exploring the area and learning the wear-abouts. I always use the night before check-in to locate the main convention/panel area, photo op rooms, autograph rooms (if any), VIP lounge if you have that, and M&G room if you have any of those. Know where you need to go and how long it will take you to get there. You cannot risk it. Normally, they will keep everything in one area.
3. Money
Save money! Save lots of it! Conventions are not cheap, especially if you want to have a fantastic experience and a busy schedule! It is possible to have a cheap experience, ex. if you’re only going for one person, but it is tough as hell. Extra money isn't a necessity, but a high recommendation. Bring a good amount of money with you, (cash is the better option just to avoid fees at ATMs). You would be surprised at how much you might grow to like an actor and how much you want to meet them after seeing their panel or them at the Friday Night Karaoke or Saturday Night Concert. Sometimes an actor is attending more than one day, you meet them the first day, and you just have to meet them the other. This happens to me a lot. Make a list of all the possible actors you might want to meet, on what days, and an estimate of the amount of money you'd be spending on them all. This has also helped me greatly.
Make sure you always have your ID with you! Especially if you won an auction, such as a private M&G or VIP. Also if you want to buy admission, extra photo ops or autographs!
Online fees really suck, but you know what sucks more? Missing out on an autograph or photo op with your hero, Lana Parrilla, Colin O’Donoghue, and the once-in-a-lifetime Captain Swan or Outlaw Queen duo because it sold out beforehand. If there is an actor you are just dying to meet, it is better to be safe than sorry. I recommend buying any additional tickets for the ones you want to meet the most, especially if they play a major character/have a huge fanbase/following. For example, Colin O'Donoghue, Lana Parrilla, Jennifer Morrison, Emilie de Ravin, Jared Gilmore and Rebecca Mader. Anyone falling along the lines of Beverley Elliott, Lee Arenberg, Michael Coleman, Gil McKinney, Raphael Sbarge or anyone who portrays a more-minor character or B/C-list, you should be fine holding off until the convention. When a photo op or autograph is listed as sold out, they aren't very likely to add any more.
4. Taking Care of Yourself/Health
Conventions run all day, and there is almost never a break in between activities. Make sure you force yourself to eat and drink. Eat a lot at breakfast and at dinner, because the days and nights are so jam packed, you are never bored, and you most likely won't have any time for lunch or a late night snack before bed. If you're starving because you didn't eat or weren't hungry, it won't be fun because it might be awhile until you'd have the time to eat something filling.
I say this because one time I came close enough to passing out at a Taylor Swift concert because I didn't eat a thing and it scarred me. I don't want to have a repeat of that, and no one should come to the point of losing their sight and half of their hearing because they are depriving themselves of food and water. Especially at a convention.
I understand the nervous butterflies of meeting your favorite actor and your excitement for the day, but the risk just is not worth it! You do not want to pass out before you get the chance to hug Colin O'Donoghue and find out why Michael Coleman calls him Captain Sexy Irish Eyes! Even if you don't want to eat or aren't hungry, try to get something in your system. If you can, bring snacks and a drink with you to have throughout the day, they allow them, and they always have complimentary water on hand.
Please try to get as much sleep as possible. I know better than anyone that the OUAT conventions can run from nine am to midnight and it'll be a bit before you get settled into bed and have to get up at five am the next morning.
Remember to shower every day. You have no idea what kind of germs are on you and need to be scrubbed off. Not to mention, you are around strangers and actors, and the last thing I'm sure any actor or stranger wants is for you to touch them when you haven't showered in days. You would feel the same exact way towards them.
And lets be real, you want nothing more than for Colin O’Donoghue to think your hair is shinier than the look in King Arthur’s eye whenever he touches Excalibur. Not to mention, you want him to think that you smell like the fresh scent of a springtime meadow just after the flowers have bloomed. Hygiene is very important!
Remember to brush your teeth and to check them after you eat! The last thing you want Lana Parrilla to smell is bad breath or that tuna sandwich you had for lunch. You don't want Jennifer Morrison to see kale stuck in your teeth, either! Gum and breath mints are your friend!
5. Staying at the Hotel
This is something I highly recommend, no matter where you live. It is so helpful to be able to have a room right there in the same building or a place you can go to touch up on your hair and make-up, drop things off, pick things up, quick changing, and taking a quick bite of food or a drink. I understand how expensive these hotels are, they are pricey and five star fancy and that's because no one would host a convention inside of a lower-graded hotel.
I always recommend using the Creation discount and booking the room right off the bat. You can get a room for lower than 150 a night, versus normal asking price, which could be several hundred. Either that or I'll go through Hotels.com which will be around the same price or a few dollars more and I might even get a free night! It is not a necessity, but it sure is helpful!
This could go into the packing section, as well, but I'm going to say it here. I recommend bringing a couple of different outfits with you, between tank-tops, short sleeved shirts, long-sleeved shirts, sweaters, pants, skirts, and shorts. Just make sure you have a variety of options. Sometimes it gets super hot at conventions. For example, I cosplayed Emma Swan at OUATNJ last year, and I was sweating to death in my leather jacket and my boots and had to change because I was uncomfortable and I did not want to hug any actors while drenched in my sweat. Sometimes you're cold. When I attended Denver, they had it so cold inside of the hotel; I was shivering and shaking throughout the entire day, and eventually had to run and grab my sweater for autographs because I couldn't even stand it anymore.
Sometimes you just need more choices because you decide last minute that you want to wear something else and you don't want to wear what you originally planned on anymore. Sometimes you want to cosplay, then you get to the con and just aren't into it, or you decide last minute that you do want to. You just might want to wear a couple of different things as well and have quick changes for individual photo ops. You don't have to go excessive with extra clothes, but I did have at least two outfit backups, and I ended up going with different than originally planned at both OUATNJ and OUATDEN.
Make sure your suitcase isn't super full because you might want to buy something! Either that or it is possible to win a free merchandise certificate. I won a $200.00 certificate at Denver and brought home ten shirts!
6. Panels
Basically how the panels work, is you'll find your seat or find something available in the General Admission area, I do recommend showing up an extra five minutes early to find a seat in that case.
If you have any questions, you are more than welcome to go up to the microphone on either side of the stage and/or get in line and ask them. People usually only ask one question and I, along with everyone else, ask that you try to keep it that way, so everyone gets a chance to ask their question. If you have any more questions, you can get back in line or ask the actor during a signing, M&G or photo op. Con attendees, volunteers, employees and actors also prefer that you refrain from just complimenting the actor or sharing a personal story. Please save that for a semi-private moment between you and the actor. Ask them a question!
You do not have to stay for any panels you don't want to. It is usually a full house for super popular actors like Colin, Jennifer, and Lana. Also Rebecca and Emilie. People will sometimes line up for questions before their panels even start!
I personally hate walking out as a panel is starting because of disliking a certain fandom, actor, character or leaving in the middle of one to get to another event. I’ll always pick and choose and leave immediately after the one to avoid being a distraction or just not go. I just feel as though I’m drawing attention to myself by getting up in the middle of the room and walking out or being disrespectful and I feel very self-consious. I also feel terrible if I have to block someone’s view or disturb them by trying to get past. However, I don’t mind arriving a little late to a panel. This is a personal choice/preference and opinion, it is not something you have to do.
7. Photo Ops
First thing is first, as soon as you come into the room, they will ask you to place your bags or anything extra you have onto one of their tables. Sometimes you might need to hold off until there is an empty space, depending on how many people are allowed in the room and how much stuff they have with them. They will ask you to put away your phone or sometimes they will allow you to keep it in your pocket, as long as you don't touch it. If you have a badge or anything, I recommend taking it off for the photo.
As far as photo ops, those goes by really fast. You have enough time to ask or explain a pose to whoever or say something fast like, "Hey, I love you," or this and that. If you take too long, they'll step in and ask you to speed it up, and that can be kind of embarrassing, especially if the celebrity is telling you to, which doesn't happen very often. If you want a conversation, your best bet is getting their autograph. However, if you get a photo op with a minor actor, they'll give you more time to talk or do whatever with them, depending on how many tickets are sold and how long their photo op is scheduled to last.
However, sometimes, if the actor talks to you, whoever is running the photo op won't say anything to them and rush you. I talked to Beverley Elliott, Lee Arenberg, Karen David and Raphael Sbarge for a minute or two at their photo ops before!
If you are talking to an actor and they're genuinely listening or talking to you, the volunteers/employees won't rush you, but they might step in if you two are taking too long. Just focus on the actor. If anyone gets mean, it's likely the actor will give them a look or tell them off.
From my own personal experience and stories I heard, I know Colin O'Donoghue, and Sean Maguire will hug just about every single fan they meet. They will talk with them, and they don't give a damn about what anyone says to them about it, even if the staff are pissed at them. Especially if that fan is physically upset over meeting them.
If you are nervous, I think it really helps to stare at the celebrity and grow used to their presence, if you refuse to, when you finally go up to them, it can get a bit rocky/messy/emotional versus run smoothly. Go over what you want to say to them or your pose idea several times in your head as you wait and watch them interact with others.
Learn how they act with other fans and study their body language and movements. Are they more reserved and collected, do they seem a bit particular when it comes to PDA, (but still kind, nonetheless), like Emilie de Ravin and Jennifer Morrison? Are they quiet and shy and blushing a lot, yet kind and willing, like Colin O'Donoghue? Are they loud and rambunctious and talkative and willing to do absolutely anything with fans, like Rebecca Mader and Lana Parrilla?
Another thing to remember is, even if they say no poses, just ask the celebrity anyway and don't listen to the volunteers or staff unless they give a legitimate excuse. For example, Emilie de Ravin, Robbie Kay, and Jennifer Morrison aren't big on poses and/or PDA or are just very shy. Some just don't like to do them and that’s okay! They should never feel pressured or as though they have to give up their comfort for your satisfaction. If this is the reason, sometimes it's best to just listen to the staff, or you can go out on a limb and ask anyway. I've come to find, usually, the actors will say yes. They are actors, they are fantastic about snapping into character, and some of them just love poses and prefer to do them! The way I see it, you are paying good money for this photo, you deserve to have exactly what you want, and you should do something fun besides just standing there, unless it’s what you prefer.
For example, Robbie Kay said no poses but was fine with hugging, Emilie de Ravin said the same thing, but she was fine with hugging above the waist. I also have an experience where I was told no poses and asked Emilie to dangle the Rumbelle teacup as if she was going to drop it. Someone came up and said no poses, Emilie gave them a defiant look, then smiled at me and did it anyway. For another example, I wasn't sure whether or not Greg Germann and Rebecca Mader would wear my Disney Mouse ears, but I asked, and they did anyway!
Keep in mind there is a possibility of them turning you down; however, they won't be mean to you. For example, Greg Germann said to my mom and I that he would not be comfortable with making finger guns, but he was very kind about it and suggested something different. They love their fans, and they're here to meet you and accommodate you, especially because you paid money to have this special moment with them. The last thing they want to do is disappoint you or hurt you, but you need to meet them in the middle as well.
Keep in mind that just because you are paying money and they are famous, does not mean that is a free pass to do whatever you want or touch them without permission. Always ask before you hug them, or touch them in any way. You might know them and/or their career well but you are a stranger to that actor, and it won't be any different to them than if a stranger came up to you on the street and just grabbed you. Be considerate, be respectful. You need to think of them as much as yourself. Do not ask for any kisses or for them to pick you up or the other way around, unless the actor suggests it themselves, of course. Someone could get sick or hurt.
With that said, if you have a complex pose idea that you might find trouble in explaining or you might get too warped up in your nervousness and excitement of seeing that actor, do print out a picture and bring it. They're trained professionals, they'll know what to do and will snap right into it. The convention does ask that it's nothing that could make a mess or that involves getting on the floor, due to time limits, and those wishes should be respected. Do not bring your phone in with the hopes of showing the celebrity that way. I've witnessed one person try to do that for a photo op and they said no, but they let them explain their pose idea to the actor rather thoroughly to make up for it.
As far as duo photo ops go, those go by quickly, faster than solo photo ops, which might be hard to believe. It's just so hard to greet two actors at once and sometimes you only have time to explain a pose or pop right in between the two or more. It takes more time to interact with two or more actors than what it does with one, especially if more than one fan is coming into the photo. However, there is a plus. If that actor is friends with the other, their presence might be calming to the other, and that one actor might be more opt for something fun and out of their comfort zone!
The most important thing you have to remember, whether you're shy, nervous or scared, that celebrities are just people like you and they're probably as nervous as you are! Colin O’Donoghue is fifty times as nervous to meet you than what you are with him. Trust me. I’ve heard him stress this many times to myself and to others. With that being said, anything you want to say to them or tell them, just do it, because they will listen and you will regret it if you don't. If you leave an impact, they are more likely to warm up to you throughout the convention or remember you! This is always a goal of mine, while staying genuine.
8. Autographs
When it comes to autographs, they almost always happen in the auditorium and at the end of the day. The one autograph session I attended that did not happen at the end was Colin O'Donoghue's, but that is only because he had a plane he had to catch earlier than usual, so his schedule was different than everyone else’s. Anyway, they will call you by row or by ticket number for you to get your autograph. It will be a much longer waiting process than a photo op. However, this is a good thing. It means the cast is taking their time with their fans. You should never take a long wait for granted because you will get the same treatment and it is SO worth it.
If there is any cast member you really like, I would highly recommend getting their autograph because it gives you the time to talk to them and have a decent conversation. My autograph experiences are always better than my photo op ones. I prefer to get autographs for my favorites solely because I can talk to them. However, the only downfall is that you can't get or take any pictures at autographs. So when you get both, you have the best of both worlds.
If you're getting an autograph with someone you didn't get a picture with, usually in the case of complimentary, I recommend printing out a picture of them at home with photo paper. It might save you money because they'll charge $6 for prints at the convention, on top of the autograph price. Those will sell out fast, so it won't be fun if you decide last minute to get an autograph. You have to have something for them to sign on hand or you have to buy something, nothing is given to you.
I also recommend having a backup of something for an actor to sign just in the case of the photo op not being printed out on time/missing the photo op. If you got a photo op with them and you think it turned out so bad you would be embarrassed if they saw it, the backups will come in handy, that has happened to me on several occasions.
I think this covers the majority of questions I have been asked over the years. I also recommend googling things to pack and things to expect at cons or little con hacks. Look at several sources and articles; everyone has their own original and very handy piece of advice to offer. Do research! Remember above all to be kind and courteous to everyone. Do not rag on any actors or fans publically where anyone can hear you, especially a fan or actor attending that very convention. Do not put an actor in a horrible or awkward position or ask them anything too personal or considerably redundant or offensive. The most important rule is to treat everyone as you want to be treated, stay in your lane (mind your business), and you will have a wonderful time!
